Who’s your most favorite character out of every fandom you’re in?

Man, Anon, this one really stumped me! I used to gravitate towards stoic characters who didn’t really reveal much of themselves in-story (Kaworu from Evangelion, Dream from Sandman) because they left a lot of space for you to play in and fill in with fan works.

But in recent years I’ve gone in the opposite direction, and I find it really hard to excise individual characters from the work as a whole. Like, the whole cast feels like one unit, and their relationships with each other are what make their world enjoyable.

THAT SAID, and assuming you found me through the Cinderella Boy fandom, I love Chase a lot. I think it’s rare to have a character who is so earnest and inherently virtuous still be such a wild card. Punko said that we’re lucky he’s a sweetheart, because his ability to read people would have made him a formidable bully. Maybe that’s part of the internal tension that keeps him interesting.

I also have a real soft spot for Pearl from Steven Universe and Jermaine from Adventure Time, both for similar reasons. They’re kind of big sibling types whose lives didn’t go at all way they’d planned. But somehow even under the weight of always having to be the adult in the room, they manage to find their own peace and joy and room to grow.

You didn’t ask for my other favorite webtoon fandoms but I’m putting them here anyway! Woven, Facing the Sun, Novae, Sweet Home, The Dummy’s Dummy, Love Advice From The Great Duke of Hell. Many others but those are my faves.

This feels like a pretty concise thesis statement for Facing the Sun so far, especially when you contrast it with leaving cognitive error C-06 intentionally unresolved.

Growth is more than just an accumulation of errors, but without the accumulation of errors growth can't exist.
