Really, I don't understand this hatred of Annabeth's nickname for Percy... Have you never had any friends or something ? These kinds of stupid nicknames happen all the time in good, healthy relationships. For what ? For fun. But only when it is completely tolerated between the two parties. Even Percy calls Annabeth a good girl, the equivalent of a miss know-it-all. Saying she's insulting Percy is completely stupid and willfully obtuse at this point. I don't understand people. One of the other criticisms made of her is that "Ah, well she didn't try to free Percy from his Achilles heel curse !" As... ? Personally, if my boyfriend had this, I would want him to get rid of it, especially with future wars coming ?! But afterwards, people will complain that she returned it in a context where she thought he still had it... So in any case, she couldn't have really hurt him. Like, she couldn't have guessed that he didn't have it anymore! Especially since from his point of view Percy ignored him and disappeared for months! She reacted excessively, yes, but in a context where she believed her Achilles heel was still present. So he was essentially invincible. Then we complain that she didn't try to take it away ?! I don't understand people!

UNDERWATER KISSES
percy jackson x annabeth chase
requested ! sometime after TBOO. percy & annabeth enjoy a day at the beach.
...
“Are you watching?”
Annabeth pushed her sunglasses to the top of her head, despite the bright rays of sun that beat down on the beach.
“I’m watching,” she replied, cupping her hands around her mouth so her boyfriend could hear from where he stood in knee-deep water. She sat on a towel laid out on the sand, attempting to split her attention between the book in her lap and Percy splashing around in the water.
He grinned wildly before a wave a little larger than the rest grew behind him. Percy jumped into the wave as it approached him and disappeared under the water for a moment before his body washed up on shore at Annabeth’s feet. As the wave retreated, Percy laid on the wet sand, giggling like a little kid.
It had been too long since the two of them had a chance to relax and act their age without the weight of the world on their shoulders. Annabeth had a hard time remembering the last time Percy looked so relaxed. His shoulders weren't fixed in a tense position nor were his fingers hovering over the pocket he kept Riptide in. He wasn’t constantly looking over his shoulder, ready for something horrible to happen. Instead, Percy was laughing with sand in his hair and the sun kissing his skin, unbothered and undisturbed.
If it were up to Annabeth, she would make sure he was always like that. Unfortunately, the life of a demi-god never stayed calm forever, especially for a child of the big three, like Percy. Annabeth wanted to soak up every second of normalcy with him before the world was threatened, again.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, pushing her out of her thoughts. She hadn’t realized she’d been staring at him. His sea glass eyes stared back from where he stretched out on the wet sand, the scars on his face faded and the worry lines smoothed from the salt water.
“I like you like this.”
Percy sat up and furrowed his brows. “Like what?”
Annabeth closed her book and tucked it back in her bag, where the hat from her mother and dagger were safely secured, just in case. She crawled off her towel and moved to sit beside him where the crashed waves kissed their legs before it was pulled back out. He instinctively wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and she leaned into his side like she had done a hundred times before, but it still made her face feel hot and caused little butterflies to flutter inside her stomach.
“Happy. Relaxed. And a little like a wet dog.”
Percy shook his head, causing his wet hair to spew droplets over her. She groaned and wiped the water from her face as she glared upwards at him. “Uncalled for, Seaweed Brain.”
The sunlight made his eyes sparkle the same way they did when she met him at camp when they were twelve years old and completely clueless as to what the future held for them. While she wished they had a normal childhood, free from the troubles they had faced both side-by-side and on their own, Annabeth would live through all of it again if that meant she ended up with Percy.
“I feel happy and relaxed because you’re here, Wise Girl.”
She smiled but it began to falter as unwanted thoughts crawled into her brain like sick little spiders. Of course, Percy noticed her mood shift, and he used his opposite hand that wasn't wrapped around her shoulder to brush some sand from her cheek. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” she said, but not convincingly. “I just wish it could stay like this. I wish we could stay like this.”
“On a beach?”
Annabeth let out a breathy laugh. “Happy and relaxed. But I wouldn’t be opposed to living on a beach.”
“Why can’t it stay like this?” he asked, and she made a sound between a scoff and a huff.
“Come on-”
“Nope.” Percy removed his arm from her shoulder and stood up. The sun that hung behind his head gave him a halo of light, drenching him with a pretty golden glow. “You come on.” He outstretched his hand toward her, and she took it out of curiosity and a longing to be close to him for as long as she could before their lives were thrust back into inevitable chaos.
He said nothing as he led the way into the ocean. The water was a refreshing cool against Annabeth’s warm skin and the mixture of seashells and seaweed under her feet tickled.
Percy walked them out until the water was at Annabeth’s waist, then he turned around and grinned at her once more. That time, however, his smile was one of mischief and his eyes sparkled with a plan of some kind.
“What are we doing?” she asked, still holding his hand just above the water.
“We are pretending that things will always be this way. There are no more doomsdays coming or monsters hunting us. We are just normal half-bloods on a date, having fun, okay?”
Gods it sounded nice, so nice that Annabeth almost believed it to be true. She was a realist, a habit of being a child of Athena. She liked it when things were for certain, even if the certainty was a downer. But standing in the ocean with Percy, who was convincing with his toothy smile and wet curls plastered to his head, Annabeth liked the idea that their troubles were over and they finally had a chance to be normal.
She swallowed any negativity that threatened to leave her lips and let the lull of the calm sea relax her.
“Okay,” Annabeth said, squeezing his hand.
Percy squeezed her hand back before the mischievous grin overtook his whole face. Before she had time to react, he tugged on her hand hard and plunged into the water.
Annabeth was completely wrapped in the cool sea with closed eyes and no clue what direction she was moving. She didn’t panic because Percy still held onto her and she trusted him more than she trusted herself, but she did have a few choice words aimed at him rattling around her head.
She held her breath, but after they were underwater for a mere moment, a bubble appeared around her head and fresh air entered her lungs.
Opening her eyes and sucking in a couple of deep breaths, she glared at Percy. “A warning would have been nice!”
“That would’ve ruined the fun!” he said, occupying the same bubble of air as she was. He pulled her further out until the sea floor dropped out and fish swam in friendly circles around them. The surface wasn’t too far, close enough that Annabeth could have swum it with some ease, but far enough out that they wouldn’t be spotted by any beachgoers that happened to show up.
Percy turned around and faced her. Their noses were almost touching, and their hands were still clasped together. “Did I tell you that you look pretty today?”
Annabeth rolled her eyes playfully and pulled him closer so she could throw her hands over his shoulders. “Yeah, five times actually.”
“Good.” He hugged her waist and leaned his forehead against hers.
“You look pretty too,” said Annabeth, which caused a slight pink tint to spread across his cheeks. She reached up and brushed a curl from his forehead before closing the small gap between them. They kissed in the solitude and safety of the bubble, under the water, just like they had after defeating Kronos. They were so young back then, even though it was only a couple of years prior. It felt like a different lifetime until she was kissing him underwater again, and suddenly she was that twelve-year-old with a stupid crush on the boy who always believed in her.

Headcannons/Rant on how much I hate and love Percico at the same time
CW: mentions of eating disorders, age gap issues, etc.
Involves spoilers for the entire Percy Jackson book series
LONG STORY SHORT- the way I got into PJO is because my boyfriend randomly shouted one day that ‘Percy Jackson was gay with the son of hades’. Now, I don’t violently love every bl simply because it’s gay, but I thought there was no way. So I read. And read. And eventually Nico came along. With Nico’s obsession with Percy, I thought it could have been possible. Except for a few things:
Wasn’t Percy already with Annabeth by time he found Nico?
AGE GAP- Percy is twelve in the first book, and I believe Nico comes in around the third or fourth one, right? So while Nico is smol, pure, and the most innocent ten year old ever, Percy is at least fourteen? Sure, irl people’s parents have even bigger gaps, but imagine a seventh/eighth grader dating a ten year old. Not cool. NOW FOR THE HEAD CANNONS!!
I agree with everyone who says Will Solace should have hearing aids! Between his moms concerts, and his sonic whistle, my boy must have some damage. Credit to @spookedbees for this headcannon, it isn’t mine and I simply just agree with them
The Apollo cabin should all magically know Italian! Italian is the language of music, most terms in music are Italian! Crescendo, Forte, Piano, etc!
Neurodivergent coded characters. Most, if not all demigods, have ADHD. It’s cannon. Same with Dyslexia. So while they are Neurodivergent, I feel like some of them also have other traits, or have it even harder than others. While Annabeth and the Athena kids can read pretty well, Percy struggles to read simple signs on a board in a museum. Leo fidgets a lot more than the other demigods. Will hides his trauma even though everyone knows almost everything about everyone else. Nico… is just a different case entirely.
Trans Nico? This is more of a head cannon, not really close to cannon. An AU if you will. But it’s another reason for him to be so happy about Will accepting him, and a lot of his struggles with self acceptance, along with things like his eating disorder after being stuck in that jar for ages just resonates a lot with a part of the trans community that struggles more than others.
Nico (and all members of New Rome) biting. Now, everyone knows that in order to be a member of new Rome (or is it just a camper?), they go through training with the wolf goddess, Luna. An au I’ve seen around and have grown particularly fond of is that the Rome campers, or anyone who has trained with Luna, have a shared trait that rubbed off on them: biting. To show affection. To calm down if they’re distressed. That sort of thing.
more to come in the future! Feel free to comment any of your headcannons you’d like to see an opinion on or any more information that could go along with them. If I got anything wrong, feel free to correct me!

Everything has been so fluffy, but let’s add a pinch of angst, you know that scene at the end of Enchanted where Robert’s girlfriend Nancy tell him to kiss Giselle with true love’s kiss because she can tell he loves her? Well what if that was Percy Nico and Annebeth? What if Nico spelled to sleep and only true love’s kiss can wake him but Percy and Annebeth are still together? Bonus points if Will tries and fails to wake Nico
After a certain age, demigods know better than to expect the gods to act decently.
There were no acts of selflessness among gods, just endless oportunities for praise or entertainment. If the god was clever, (like in this case) it was both.
The worst part is, they are essentially all-powerful manchildren, so it's not like they can refuse a "Half a Year until Valentine's" party from Aphrodite herself without being severely cursed.
The goddess had invited every couple who had formed or broken up since the Second Titan War, and the invitation had added enough threats about ruining relationships (present or future) that everyone had attended.
The only thought running through Percy's mind was "Pink."
The room was pink. The decor was pink. Even the fruit punch and the hors d'oeuvre were pink.
He had already danced with Annabeth, had stilted talks with a lot of couples (Calypso took the prize), and expectated at least six pairs trying to get some distance because of the old relationship switcheroo.
At least Aphrodite looked pleased on her throne.
He was going stir-crazy trying to find something to do when he found Nico di Angelo by the refreshment table.
"Nico!" He called, running up to him. Nico lifted his paper cup (still full) and called him over. "How have you been?" He asked, smiling.
(If he had been more aware of his surroundings, he might have noticed Aphrodite zeroing in on them)
"Good," Nico said lazily, finally taking a sip of his drink. "Hiding from Will."
Now that was a surprise.
"Why? Are you one of the broken up couples?" He asked with some concern. Nico sighed.
"No, but he doesn't get it," Nico said. "He thinks of this as our chance to have a proper prom date and not, you know..." he motioned with his head towards the center of the room, where the garish pink throne stood.
"A show," Percy finished for him. Any romance that happened here would feel phony with the goddess of Love's eyes on you, drinking in your reactions. Nico nodded and took another sip. "How did you get rid of him?"
"Asked him to find me something not pink to eat, Haven't seen him for 20 minutes" he said. Percy laughed.
"Dude, I bet he left to go to the grocery store or something," he said seriously. Nico smirked.
"Good, maybe the party will be over by the time he gets back." Nico stretched and took a big gulp of his drink. "What about you, college boy, how's life treating you?"
"Nothing like the movies," Percy said easily. "six months in, and still not a single wild college party."
"Poor you," Nico replied, still smirking. "I have been to a few of those myself. You're not losing much, but I can get you in if you want the experience."
Percy coughed. Both his and Nico's tone was almost flirty. It happened often whenever they talked, and for some reason Nico's words always ended filled with double-entendres.
They kept talking for a while, not noticing the time go by or that their respective partners were still missing. It was the only fun he had had the whole night.
"Nico!" Will Solace's voice sounded. He had with him a doggy bag with some fast food logo on it.
Nico sighed. He stood straight and waved at his boyfriend.
"Well, it was fun," he said, smiling at Percy. "I'll spend the rest of the night dodging Will's romantic gestures."
"Good luck," he said. Nico finished his drink and gave a step towards Will, only to collapse on the floor the next moment. "Nico!"
Percy managed to catch him before his face hit the ground. Everyone in the hall gathered around them, as Aphrodite cooed in delight.
"Finally!" She said. "You know how long I was waiting for one of you dears to finish a drink?"
"Nico!" Will cried, running towards him. He shoved Percy away and started checking his vitals. "What did you do to him?"
Aphrodite giggled, her throne spinning around like a heavily ornated office chair.
"Each cup of punch contains a powerful Love potion," she explained delighted. Most demigods dropped theirs immediately. "It only takes effect when you drink the last drop, and puts you in a deep sleep until your true love kisses you."
"With all due respect, Lady Aphrodite," a familiar voice said. Percy turned to see Annabeth looking at they goddess as she held her hand out to him. Percy took it and stood up. "That is seriously messed up."
"I did invite you with your couples here for a reason, you know," Aphrodite said. "A kiss from your beloved breaks the spell. You'll be sleeping for five minutes, tops. Perfect Ice Breaker."
No one pointed out that the party had been going on for hours before anyone even finished their drink.
Percy couldn't keep his eyes away from Nico's sleeping face. Will looked determined at him before lowering his face and presiing his lips against his boyfriend's.
"Ow!" Annabeth said, elbowing him. Percy blinked and realized he had clenched his fist, which still held his girlfriend's hand.
"Sorry," Percy said quickly, without looking at her. He was unable to look away from the scene before him. "Just... tired of being used as entertainment."
Will pulled away and looked at Nico, but the teen remained sleeping peacefully. The son of Apollo frowned and tried again and again, but Nico didn't rouse.
"Oh will you look at that," Aphrodite said, delighted. "It seems our dashing ray of sunshine is not the Son of Hades's true love!"
Will's eyes widened and he took a step back. Percy let go of Annabeth and rushed to catch Nico again.
"Careful you idiot," he snarled. "Don't let his head hit the floor. Aren't you a doctor?"
Will said nothing. He just looked between Percy and Nico before frowning.
"After everything?" He asked the sleeping demigod. "After all we said, all we have lived through? It's still him?"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Percy asked, getting madder. "Solve your issues with Nico after he wakes up!"
Will growled. As he was younger and shorter than Percy, it didn't have much effect on the son of Poseidon.
"If you want him to wake up that badly, do it yourself," he said. "I'm out of here!"
Aphrodite didn't stop him. If anything she looked even more radiant as she observed him walking away.
"What is he talking about?" Percy asked. Annabeth's lips were pressed tightly. She looked like she had eaten the sourest thing in the world.
"Nico lied," she said. "There's one other person he likes... someone he never stopped liking despite saying otherwise."
Percy blinked, bemused as Aphrodite's high-pitched sounds breached the supersonic barrier.
Someone else he liked... the only person Percy knew that Nico had liked was...
"No way!" Percy said. "He said it was just a crush! I... I can't wake him up! It must be someone else!"
"Only one way to find out!" Aphrodite said. her gaze alternating between him, Nico, and Annabeth.
"He's unconscious!" He protested, immediately knowing how stupid it sounded. The next time he saved the world, his wish would be for every god to attend a consent workshop.
"And you may be the one to wake him!" The goddess insisted. Percy glanced at Annabeth. She looked resigned.
"Go ahead," she said. "You'll do anything to wake him up, won't you?"
Because you love him her tone seemed to accuse him.
Percy gulped before nodding. He lightly pressed his lips against Nico's.
The first second, Nico didn't wake up. Before Percy could discern if he felt relief or disappointment, Nico started stirring.
He started kissing back.
It was as if fireworks were going off in Percy's head. His heartbeat accelerated and his stomach made somersaults. Everything was as it should be.
Then Nico opened his eyes and pushed him away.
"Wha... Percy?!" He said looking around and seeing everyone looking at them. His eyes stayed on Annabeth, who, now that Percy looked, was on the verge of tears.
Nico scrambled towards the corner, where the shadows gathered and swallowed him up. Percy just looked at him go.
Now his only thoughts were of Nico, and of how screwed they were.

YALL ITS DARK ANNABETH HOUR
i was reading this fic (link at the end) by @caffeinatedflumadiddlebutpjo and at the start it’s talking about annabeth being called to do more for olympus and annabeth not wanting to. and idek where this came from but imagine annabeth being wary of how trustworthy the gods actually are when it comes to promises, and this is a reach here, but what if she got some kind of god-bounding material or trap (like heras prison in tlh or artemis’ chains in ttc or zeus’s net in sosf👀) just in case there ever came a time the gods couldn’t be reasoned with. (also i feel like @stanning-reyna ‘s dark annabeth fic could fit in here lemme look for a link i’ll put it at the end [go read it if u want i rlly liked it!]) and so it could either be pre hoo when percys gone missing when she goes up there and just kinda, imprisons the gods and is like “listen here, hera. idgaf about this prophecy bs so give me my boyfriend back and we can pretend this never happened.” or “sorry, but i don’t remember ASKING to be born into a family of murdering, psychotic, blood thirsty immortals, and we definitely didn’t ask to fight in back-to-back wars. so how about you wait another 70 years and let this be someone else’s problem” ooh and “THAT IS IT HERA AS A GOD OF MENTAL ILLNESS HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT MORTAL PROBLEMS” *iris messaging thalia: ugh i honestly don’t see what the gods actually do for mortals yk? your dear old step-mother certainly is slacking amirite? talk about picking your family and throwing who you dislike off a literal cliff* (this got so off-topic omgs) OR OR OR AFTER THEY COME BACK FROM TARTARUS (and percy actually kept his promise to rip gaea limb by limb instead of whatever BoO was) (and this is defo me pushing my dark!percy agenda) but together our power couple of the millennium just go up there (backed by almost every non-immortal [and maybe even some immortals]) and just slay and the gods are like so confused as the thrones or smth grow shackles idk lmao and they implement a new and better system (like annabeths plans in “her future”) once again i honestly have no idea where this was going but this is why i shouldn’t be allowed to do anything after midnight
wait does any of this make sense oops-

Hello, Gen! ^-^ Random, but - High Warlock!Nico/Shadowhunter!Percy headcanons??? (the thought process behind that was that I've been thinking about a Teen Wolf/Shadowhunter crossover these days, which brought me to your Teen Wolf/Percy Jackson crossover and thus, to close the circle, I came back to an old fave and got curious! :D)
Okay, okay, okay.
So-
- Hades is the demon parent - obviously. Nico grew up in the Republic of Venice (La Serenissima), with his sister around the 15th century (just because Renaissance 😍). Maria was the daughter of the current Doge that time, but they tended to die suddenly. How tragic.
- But it was really tragic, because Maria was also murdered when he was, leaving Bianca and Nico orphans, in need to flee from Venice. Rome, here they come!
- Unfortunately, it wasn't the best choice, because after awhile, Bianca caught the attention of Cesare Borgia, and she, too, was killed. After that, Nico spent some years in a rage, letting his demonic side out.
- It was not a nice decade. Century? A few centuries at the most.
- After that, he traveled around the world, afloat, trying to find some reason for his existence.
- He found one: his half-sister from his father's side, Hazel, and her lovers, Frank (vampire) and Leo (warlock).
- Right. I forgot to mention his demon mark is his completely black eyes, silver claws and bat wings. (Hazel's is her golden, cat-like eyes and her ridiculously fluffy cat ears.)
- Nico never stepped a foot into Venice over the centuries (not until his honeymoon with his husband leads to there, wanting to introduce him to his family).
- He didn't really want to become a High Warlock, especially not of San Francisco, because that city was too dark, had too many criminals (both mundane and downworlder) and the Shadowhunters were too racists, but. Hazel and her husbands found home there, so what could he do? Leave them alone to fend for themselves? Obviously not.
- So, he started cleaning up a bit around his home, starting with the current High Warlock, and the other underworld leaders who tried to manipulate, hurt, and/or kill his family members.
Hmmm...
- Percy Jackson's father was a Circle member, so he is not in his life, but because his mother is a good little Shadowhunter, they are just under mild suspicion.
- His parabatai is Grover. (You can't convince me otherwise u.u)
- His mother, seeing the Lightwoods not really wanting another kid, adopted Jace. Because I want Jace and Percy to be brothers, dammit!
- They grew up with the Lightwoods, the Chases (as in Annabeth, Grover, and Luke Case) and the Graces, so the New York Institute, despite of the adults' effort to make it unpleasant, was always full of life. Sure, they learned everything, and when they needed to be, they were serious, but- Honestly. Nine kids growing up together? Sounds chaotic ngl.
- Mostly everything happened as in the show with Clary, so hello, eleven teenagers, a child and two immortals (Sounds exhausting...)!
- Okay, so. Because they have more people, more trusted friends, some things happens differently. Especially that they don't let the Clave take over the Institute. (Honestly, Annabeth and Izzy, then Clary and Lydia working together? They could take over the whole world.)
- Jace and Percy are proud pansexuals. (Sally would never allow them to be ashamed for their sexuality u.u) Because of this, it is Jace, who realizes his crush on Alec, and asks him on a date, regardless of them being parabatai. So, a fairly confident pair meet with Magnus, who immediately notices them. I mean, how could he not?!
- As they need all help they could get, Magnus calls for his old friend, Nico, who, redundantly, but decides to help them out. And when he steps out of his portal, how glad he is for his decision! That pretty, green-eyed Shadowhunter is really, really, really yummy looking.
- But there is no time for romance, no matter what the happy threesome... Raphael and Simon... Izzy and Lydia... Annabeth and Clary (or is it Izzy and Clary, Lydia and Annabeth? 🤔 Percy doesn't know. The answer is: it's all the four together) and all of their happiness seems to suggest.
- So, they wait. And flirt with each other. And irritate the others with their UST.
- But then finally, the war ends, everything is peaceful and the future is full of hope, so of course it is time for their first date!
- It goes horribly wrong. Percy is late because he had a Downworlder problem; the restaurant Nico choose has to be evacuated because of faulty pipes; the hamburger place throws them out for being gay; and when they finally find a nice pizzeria that is up to Nico's standards, he is called away for an emergency.
- It is a complete disaster. They are conflicted, think that it was a sign that it is just not meant to be, but Jace, Grover and Annabeth throw him through Magnus' portal before he could completely close himself off of having a warlock boyfriend.
- He lands in Nico's lap.
- They end up married. Well. Not that day.
- That day they decide that who cares about "real" dates, if they could hug, and talk, and spend time together without even going out? They know each other, they obviously like each other, it's not like they need that awkward stage in their relationship where they don't know anything about the other and their expectations.
- But they do end up getting married. And have a ceremony where they connect their lives together literally, so that they would live until the other lives.
- While Percy moves to San Francisco, there's a constant portal between Nico's and Magnus' place, so basically the friend group spend just as much time together as they did before, just now they have Nico, Hazel, Frank and Leo as well.
- Izzy is their surrogate, because she looks the closest to Nico, so when their little daughter is born with Percy's fluffy hair, and dark brown eyes, similar to Nico's, she looks as the perfect combination of the two of them. Their second child is an abandoned Downworlder with fluffy, blue, feather-y hair and curious, yellow eyes.
- They have two dogs and a cat. Obviously. u.u
I... I think that's all for today, but it's more than I thought I would have for you when I started to write the answer 😅 I hope you like it 😅😚 even if it is not exactly what you asked for 💀

Her Future - A dark Annabeth fic
Chapter 5
AN: TBM spoilers in this chapter! Also, the entire fic takes place the summer after toa, about a year after hoo, in case anyone was confused on the timeline.
The rest of Annabeth and Percy’s interactions with the minor gods went as planned. Nike was difficult, as expected. She still remembered the time the demigods had kidnapped her and forced her onto the Argo II, but the temptation of a victory got her on board. All of the divine pieces were falling into place, just as Annabeth had imagined. She once again found herself giddy at how far she had come, about how much control she was gaining over the situation. It was a lovely feeling.
“Piper! I’m so glad I ran into you, there’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about,” Annabeth said, running up to her friend who had just returned to Camp for the summer. The daughter of Aphrodite was catching up with her siblings she hadn’t seen in nearly a year, and a smile spread across her face as Annabeth approached.
Annabeth led her away from the group so they could speak privately. As they walked, she ran through the words she had rehearsed a million times in her head. Jason was dead, it was Zeus’ fault, etc. What Piper needed to hear to get on board. Annabeth felt a sour nagging in the back of her head telling her that she shouldn’t bring up such a tender topic just for persuasion. This won’t matter once I make everything better, she reminded herself. She had to push away the guilt. It would only stop her from doing what it takes to fix the world.
They arrived in the strawberry fields and sat down next to each other on the dirt. This was the spot they used to spend their free time in the spring that Percy was missing, watching the satyrs in the field and Annabeth filling Piper in on everything and anything about her missing boyfriend. Now he was back, and it felt strange to be sitting here again.
Their conversation started casual enough, asking about the school year and so forth. Annabeth waited patiently till the subject she was waiting for came up.
“The school that Jason an- the school that I went to in October was miserable. You should be glad you didn’t plan a visit,” Piper said. She tried to cover it up in her words, but her body language gave away the grief she felt at the mention of Jason. Annabeth knew she should feel sad about what had happened to him too, but where there should be the pain of loss in her chest she found nothing. She was sure she had experienced that feeling at some point- probably when her own Grace sibling had died 8 years ago- but now she couldn’t quite recall what it was like.
Annabeth turned to Piper and faked the best empathy she could. “Listen, I know I wasn’t there for you. I’m sorry. I don’t know how you’ve felt, but I do know that it didn’t need to happen.”
Piper stared at the dirt ground in silence, tears forming in her eyes. Finally, she spoke. “I know it didn’t. It wasn’t even his quest for crying out loud. Sometimes I think that…. call me crazy, but sometimes I think Zeus wanted it to happen.”
The daughter of Athena nodded in encouragement. Piper was making her job too easy.
“I agree. After all the things we’ve been through, after Jason spent years serving the Legion, being killed by a Roman emperor seems like a cruel joke only the gods would find funny,” Annabeth said.
Piper let out a dry laugh that lacked any real humor behind it. “I know. I’ve spent too much time thinking about that, and I keep coming to the same conclusion: there’s absolutely nothing any of us can do about it.” Her voice wavered slightly and Annabeth could tell some charmspeak was seeping through as it tended to do whenever Piper was really upset.
“Maybe not alone. But the gods aren’t invincible, especially to charmspeak. Together, we could make Zeus pay for what he did. Don’t you want that?” Annabeth asked. She had gathered up all the emotion she could muster and put it into her voice, hoping to convince Piper that this was a fight they could win together.
“Do you really think we could stand up to them?” Annabeth nodded. That’s exactly what she had spent the last year thinking about. “Then it’s worth a shot. I’m in,” Piper said, a sad but hopeful look in her eyes.
AN: Dark Piper was suggested and so here she comes. I am once again bringing up how Annabeth’s desensitization to death is a huge part of her going dark. Thanks for reading! All chapters are under the tag ‘her future annabeth’

The Couples' Discount
The thing is, Annabeth knows Percy.
Annabeth knows Percy from middle school, where he would shyly ask her for a spare pencil every day, his big green eyes flitting from the floor to her face and back to the floor, and his face as red as a tomato.
Annabeth knows Percy from high school junior year, where every lab session involved Percy running late into class from swim team practice, a ball of inexhaustible energy: his legs continuously bouncing under the table as he leaned over to ask her what the atomic mass of carbon was for the third time that day.
Annabeth also knows Percy from across the hall at a freshman party in college, where her friend Jason and his friend Piper first locked eyes with each other and subsequently became inseparable.
Suffice to say, Annabeth is familiar with who Percy is. She just doesn’t think this level of familiarity is enough for her to engage in a conversation with him for five minutes, let alone share waffles with him for one hour.
Yet Percy is standing right in front of her, hands gripping the straps of his backpack as he waits for her response.
“You want us to go to Sveltes’ for waffles?” Annabeth’s right hand comes up to massage her temples as her laptop rests on her left arm.
“Blue ice cream waffles, Annabeth,” Percy emphasises. “Please?”
Anyone who knows Percy knows how much he likes his food blue - blue shakes, blue cakes, blue toppings and blue ice cream… Annabeth once saw his eyes light up when their high school Chemistry teacher told them they were making blue copper sulfate crystals. If Annabeth hadn’t kept an eye on Percy, she was pretty sure Percy would have tried his luck and eaten the crystals.
Annabeth steels herself and avoids Percy’s wide baby seal eyes (no, they’re not adorable at all, shut up) before replying, “No.”
Annabeth turns on her heels and walks down the courtyard as Percy chases after her, whisper-yelling, “But if they think we’re a couple, we can get the couples’ discount!”
Annabeth stops short, and Percy almost bumps into her from the momentum.
“What?”
Percy laughs shakily, before biting his lips, the blush surging from the base of his neck to his cheeks. There goes the tomato, Annabeth thinks with an odd sense of satisfaction. Percy opens his mouth and blurts out his words at the speed of a freight train.
“Yesterday was Valentines’ Day, and Sveltes’ has this wicked two-for-one ice cream waffles deal for couples which ends today, so the only way I can get these waffles is if you agree to…” Percy trails off, his lips pursed.
“Agree to what?”
Percy lifts his shoulders in a half-shrug as his face lifts with a timid half-smile. “Be my girlfriend for one hour?”
“Absolutely not. Can’t you ask anyone else? Piper?”
“Piper works there. Besides, Jason will kill me.”
Annabeth huffs. “Reyna?”
“Reyna will kill me.”
Annabeth snaps her fingers. “Hazel.”
Percy glances back at her, horrified. “I am not going in there looking like a pedophile.”
“We’re seventeen, Percy,” Annabeth grits out.
“She’s fourteen!”
Annabeth throws her hands up. “It’s a three-year difference.”
“That’s still illegal!”
“For what? Getting waffles?”
Annabeth glares at Percy for a few seconds, before Percy sighs in defeat.
“I just really want those waffles, Annabeth.” Percy mutters, training his eyes on the floor.
It makes total sense if she just walks away right now. He asked for something she doesn’t really want to give, and her homework awaits in her dorm. Though that isn’t due till next week, and today is only Tuesday… but she has stuff to do. Kind of.
Annabeth doesn’t know what went through her mind - given her final decision, probably nothing sane - but she hears herself say, “Fine. I’m free after classes at four.”
Percy looks up at her, his green eyes unfairly bright and filled with such a child-like hopefulness she almost felt the urge to slap him and stomp off in both embarrassment and confusion. He grabs both her hands in excitement. “Thank you so much, Annabeth. You will not regret this. I’ll treat you to that strawberry milkshake you like.”
“How do you know I like strawberry milkshake?”
For a moment, Percy’s eyes widens before he rushes out, “You told me sophomore year, okay, see you later, Annabeth!”
He turns and runs down the courtyard, leaving Annabeth to over analyse her very perplexing thoughts alone.
*
Despite Percy’s reassurances, Annabeth finds herself regretting her decision as Percy pulls the door of the cafe open for her. Annabeth steps in cautiously, cursing herself as she finds the place filled with couples. Maybe if she covered her face by resting her hand against the crown of her head, she could get away this entire hour without making eye contact with anyone she knew.
Luckily for them, they find a seat fairly quickly, and Annabeth busies herself with looking at the menu. She thinks there is a possibility they can just eat their waffles and leave without anyone noticing them, when a bright, excited voice calls out, “Percy!”
Before she could hide her face, Piper, decked in her Sveltes’ waitress uniform, walks towards them, her braided brown locks framing her face as her kaleidoscopic eyes shine in elation.
“And Annabeth’s here too,” Piper grins, then turns to Percy. “I thought you’d never work up the nerve to ask her out!”
Percy’s eyes widen comically. If Annabeth hadn’t felt her heart jump, she would have laughed at how quickly his neck turned red, along with his ears.
“To get the discount.” He blurts out, nodding meaningfully at Annabeth. She tilts her head to the side and raises one of her eyebrows challengingly, settling into a smirk. Percy’s face turns a darker shade of red as both his hands reach out to cup the back of his neck.
“Right, to get the discount,” Piper scoffs. “If that were the case, why did you call me last night--”
“I want the two blue ice-cream waffles and a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream and cinnamon in a large venti cup, please, now!” Percy almost yells.
Annabeth was about to shush him when she heard him recite her usual order. Piper nods and rolls her eyes, muttering something about “that ungrateful little idiot who asked me what he should wear today”.
“You know my order?” Annabeth asks as Percy breathes a sigh of relief. His head snaps up as he stutters, “I-I have a good memory.”
“Do you remember the atomic mass of carbon?”
He scoffs. “Of course, it’s 16.”
“That’s oxygen.”
Percy winces as Annabeth smirks. “So, you’ve been planning this for awhile, haven’t you?”
“Don’t flatter yourself, Chase,” Percy shoots back. “I really just couldn’t find anyone else.”
Percy launches into a commentary about how waffles are just the best thing the world has ever created, don’t you agree? That quickly turned into an explanation of why he liked blue food so much.
“I placed last for my first swimming competition and my terrible stepfather laughed at me and said I was useless and it would be impossible for me to ever get an Olympic medal,” He shares with an easy smile, hands fiddling the napkin on the table. “So my mother baked a blue cake and told me nothing was impossible as long as I tried my best. A few years later, she divorced my stepfather and we never looked back.”
“That’s very inspirational.”
“I know, I should become a motivational speaker.” Percy replies sardonically.
Annabeth snorts. Conversations with Percy have always been easy, even during high school. Lab sessions were always filled with bad Percy jokes, the kind that out of anyone else’s mouth would have made her cringe and roll her eyes, but she found hilarious when Percy said it.
The good thing about Percy is, he never took himself or anyone else too seriously. He was genuine and self-deprecating, and never really dwelled on one problem for too long. But when he was really passionate about something, he could go on and on about it, and Annabeth finds that he makes even the most confusing marine biology concepts sound understandable.
It wouldn’t be the worst thing on earth to hear him talk about marine biology everyday, Annabeth thinks.
Percy stops short in his ramblings, and a nervous hand comes up to palm his neck. A nervous tick, Annabeth thinks. Cute. Then she feels like plunging her head into the confectionary’s refrigerator because what in the world was that about?
She jolts back to reality when Percy chuckles. “I think I’m talking too much about my major. How about yours? How’s architecture going?”
“Marine biology’s interesting, especially when you explain it.” Annabeth reassures him. “Right now, we’re covering Greco-Roman architecture, and it’s the best thing in the world.”
Percy grins and nods at her to continue. So she launches into an explanation of Doric and Ionic columns and gushes a bit too enthusiastically about the wonders of the Roman aqueducts. Percy listens attentively and asks questions appropriately, and Annabeth thinks that it would be easy to go on more waffle dates with him in the future.
The waffles and milkshake arrive before she can entertain that terrifying thought. Percy oohs and ahhs at the blue ice cream waffles and she laughs at the number of photos he takes of his waffles.
Annabeth is digging into her waffles when a low, hearty voice asks, “Percy?”
Percy’s face brightens as a tall, burly boy stops at their table. “Beckendorf, what are you doing here?”
“Getting waffles with his girlfriend,” Another sweeter voice replies teasingly. “And who’s this, Percy?”
Annabeth glances up to see a petite girl in a pastel pink summer dress with her hands tucked around the arm of a muscular boy in a football jersey and shorts. The girl looks vaguely familiar, and judging by the way her eyes narrow at Annabeth in recognition, they definitely know each other.
“Aren’t you from my psych class? Annabeth, right?” The girl asks.
Annabeth panics slightly, racking her brain for a name. “Silena Beauregard?”
“Yep, and this is my boyfriend.” Silena smiles. “I didn’t know you guys were a thing.”
Annabeth starts, “We’re n--”
“Yeah, we, um, you know,” Percy fumbles with a smile. “We are a thing.”
Annabeth frowns at Percy, who glances at her with pleading eyes.
“How did you guys meet?” The boyfriend - Beckendorf, Annabeth recalls Percy saying - asks.
Before Annabeth could glare at Percy, he replies, “Oh, we actually grew up together, attended the same middle and high school. And as it turns out, the same college too.”
Percy grins as Annabeth forces out a short laugh. Silena cooes at them and turns to Beckendorf, “That is so sweet. When did you guys fall in love?”
Percy chokes on his cup of water, a sure blush forming at his neck. Annabeth maintains her smile as her mind runs a mile a minute while Percy stutters out, “Uh, um, you know, like normal people --”
“Two months ago,” Annabeth interjects. Percy looks back at her, confused. “We were having a double date with our friends,” Annabeth shrugs convincingly. “He was really easy to talk to, and I thought he was really sweet.”
Percy gazes at her, bewildered and with a little bit of wonderment in his eyes that she didn’t understand. What she said was true, Piper and Jason had forced them to a double date, simply because, in their words, they were “the two luckiest people with two of the loneliest friends”.
Annabeth and Percy had protested, but she had to admit that the night had been much more bearable with both of them commenting on the ostentatious fashion choices of some of the diners. Without him, Annabeth would have been stuck watching Jason and Piper hold hands from across the table and gaze into each others’ eyes every few seconds.
Silena grins. “And how about you, Percy?”
Percy blinks and bits his lip. “She makes me happy.” His eyes flit nervously from Annabeth’s face back to the couple.
Percy laughs subduedly as Annabeth clenches her jaw. This was getting too real too fast. Percy’s unexpectedly sweet confession threw her off guard and a strange silence descended upon them.
Silena breaks it, “Well, I’ve never seen you this way before, Percy. It’s a cute look on you.”
Beckendorf nudges her and signals to his watch. She sighs. “Sorry, we have to go now, but we’re actually having a small sorority party this week,” Silena turns to look at Annabeth. “We would love it if both of you could join us.”
“We’ll try our best,” Annabeth replies.
Silena and Beckendorf share a smile, before turning to leave the cafe.
When the couple were out of earshot, Annabeth hissed at Percy, “What was that all about? You could have just told them we weren’t a couple.”
“In case there were Sveltes’ waitresses nearby,” Percy says in a matter-of-fact manner. “If they catch us, this whole meal isn't going to be worth it.”
Before she could protest that very obvious excuse, he stuffs a large chunk of waffles into his mouth and points to his mouth. Annabeth narrows her eyes at him, and for some reason, Percy glances down at his food with a shy, lopsided grin.
*
After the meal, Percy respectfully insists on walking her back to her dorm on the account of her agreeing to get waffles with him.
And when that didn’t work out, he brought out the big guns. “Annabeth, please, what would my mother say if I let you walk home at this time of the night?”
She snorts. “You would be the type to be a mommy’s boy.”
Percy’s eyes crinkle. “I take pride in being a mommy’s boy.”
The easygoing banter starts again, and Annabeth occasionally catches Percy glancing at her for too long, each time his soft smile causing a lump in her throat and a distinct feeling of warmth on her cheeks.
It isn’t until they are nearing her dorm building when Percy starts talking less, his feet awkwardly shuffling.
“So,” he looks down as he lightly kicks the fallen leaves in front of him. “I had a great time today.”
She smirks. “Okay, I’m leaving.”
“Annabeth,” Percy blurts out, his hands coming up to stop her from leaving, before he thought better and pulled back, hands coming to rest near his body as he fiddled restlessly with his fingers.
She turns back around to face him. “I… I wanted to say that…” Percy closes his mouth, then opens it again, but no sound comes out.
He laughs nervously. Although she knows what he’s trying to do, this knowledge does nothing to quell the warm feeling in her stomach.
“I mean, since middle school, I kind of…” Percy raises his eyebrows meaningfully. “No, I…”
Annabeth almost wants to help him when his eyes catch hers.
“... So, I know this really nice pancakes place just down the street, I might need your help again because I think there’s a couples’ discount there too--”
“Percy, just ask me out.” Annabeth interrupts, exasperated.
“I want to do this properly.”
She rolls her eyes but smiles at him. “Great, we’ll be here all night then.”

So hi, since I’ve been crying for like... the past hour? (Lol future Phantom here, it’s taken me like an hour to compile this)  here’s a collection of moments from my Riordanverse fanfics that I really like or made me chuckle because I need some feel good.  These are all from my Ao3 and I’ll leave links.
--
“You know usually people show up at someone’s house when the person is home,” Nico said, starting to make himself a sandwich. Thalia laughed.
“You’re telling me that while you’re sitting here the same as me making a sandwich?” She leaned back on the stool, gripping the counter to keep her balance. Nico rolled his eyes.
“I don’t intend to show up while he’s not here.”
“You’re funny Nico.”
“Thanks, I get that a lot,” Nico raised one eyebrow, Thalia laughed again.
(Percy’s not home)
--
“Jason fractured his ankle...while on the rock wall…” Will looked up at Nico, “he can fly, how did he do that?”
“He’s silly like that.”
Will paused for so long that Nico thought he had finally fallen asleep.
“Cecil brought me some Zebra cakes today,” Will mumbled, “he wasn’t injured but they tasted good.  I appreciated it.  He probably stole them.”
(Just go to bed)
More under the cut
Nico couldn’t help but crack a small smile, “thanks Kayla.”  He gently took the sweatshirt from her.  This was one of Will’s favorites (and also Nico’s favorite to take).
“Since you’re practically a member of the family now, I wanted to look out for you,” she yawned and glanced behind her, “since things have been a bit quiet with Will visiting his mom.”
“Yeah,” Nico agreed.
She smiled, “I guess I’ll let you get back to bed.”
Nico nodded, “goodnight Kayla.”
“Goodnight Nico,” she yawned again and started to trudge back to her cabin.
(Miss him the most)
--
“Look at you, I think we still need to have that competition of who looks worse after crying,” Will smirked.
“I still think it’s you,” Kayla cracked a small smile.
“It’s probably still me,” Will sighed, “let’s get back before Austin gets worried and the harpies come kill us though.”
“Yeah…”
(I’m still here)
--
But Will, half asleep and frightened had somehow ended up on the front porch of the Hades cabin at four in the morning.  When Nico opened the door he had stumbled into Nico’s arms, enveloping Nico into a huge hug.
“Oh,” Nico whispered, running his fingers through Will’s hair.
“I…” Will swallowed hard, “nightmare I… didn’t know… what to do.”
He wasn’t crying but the panic was evident in his voice.  Nico nodded silently and led Will inside, shutting the door behind him.
(Understand that I love you, dear)
--
“It’s fine,” Leo wiped some grease on his shirt and shifted on the chair, “I know what I’m doing.”
Jason doubted that, but he crossed his arms in front of his chest and watched.  Leo’s chair that he was standing on looked old and worn, it looked very close to falling apart.  Jason got a bit closer just in case Leo fell.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to help you?” Jason asked again.
“Why? Are you worried?” Leo let out a sigh and turned to Jason, the chair wobbled and he threw his arm out to steady himself.  Jason hissed and quickly stepped forward, his arms outstretched.
“Yeah, a bit,” Jason responded, “I don’t want you to fall.  Let me help.”
(How tall are you)
--
“I’m thinking about hiding away in the woods for a while, maybe we could talk, maybe kiss,” Leo suggested with a shrug.
(How tall are you)
--
Will buried his face in his hands, tugging at his bangs.  He didn’t say anything, Nico was too afraid to do anything at the moment.
Finally, Will let out a shaky sigh, running his fingers through his hair, “you know what,” he laughed without humor, “nope, it’s been a long week.”  Will turned towards the desk and started to tidy up the papers he was working on.
“I’m going to bed, I can’t do this right now.  I haven’t slept all week and I’m exhausted,” Will turned back to Nico and put a hand on his shoulder, he smiled but it didn’t reach his eyes, “I’m glad you’re back Nico.  I’m too angry to actually welcome you home properly so instead I’m going to sleep for the rest of the day.  Then come back to this conversation as a well rested organized individual.”
(Cause it hurts)
--
(like go seek out any other of his friends to alert them of his return, or iris messaging his sister to let her know he was all right) he sulked back to his cabin.
He did eventually do the second thing and Hazel was more than thrilled and relieved.  Though when he first iris messaged her, she yelled at him so loudly Frank and a couple other kids actually came in to see what was going on.
(Cause it hurts)
--
“Did you come here for something?” Will finally asked, clicking his pen absently.  He looked back over at Nico.
“Oh right,” Nico walked over to where Will was sitting and plopped himself right on top of the desk, “I came for you.”
“For me?” Will raised one eyebrow, leaning his chin on his elbow.
“It’s getting late, I was getting impatient for you to come back,” Nico said, crossing his arms in front of his chest stubbornly.
“Oh so you missed me?” Will smirked.  Nico thought he shouldn’t look so smug.
“Don’t act like you don’t miss me too when I leave for a bit,” Nico huffed.
“I’m not going to act, I’ve admitted it before and I’ll do it again.”
(I trust you as my eyes)
--
“There we go, that’s my Will,” Nico mumbled, “sometimes nightmares are just nightmares.  Nothing more.”
“No stupid prophecy or foreseeing of death,” Will squeezed Nico tighter.
“Just a normal old punch in the gut from your subconscious.”
“I hate my subconscious.”
“Me too.”
(My subconscious hates me)
--
“Oh, hello Sunshine.”
Kayla woke to her brother’s voice.  For a second she thought he was going insane and actually talking to the sun.  Then she remembered what happened at three am last night… or well, this morning.
(Not yet brother in law)
--
The two of them were quiet again.  A leaf fluttered onto Percy’s face.  Annabeth swiped it away without a thought.  He licked her hand.
“Gross, Percy!  Are you ten?” Annabeth cried out, wiping her hand on Percy’s shirt.
He laughed, “you asked for it, putting your hand too close to my mouth.”
“I was getting a lead off of you like a loving girlfriend.”
He stuck his tongue out at her.  Annabeth furrowed her eyebrows, gathering a ton of leaves that were settled around her and dropped them on his face.  He sat up spluttering, spitting leaves out of his mouth.
“That wasn’t nice!” He exclaimed, shaking the leaves from his hair.
(Content)
--
“You’re a whore,” Drew glared at Will.
Lacy gasped, she looked like she wanted to say anything, but she didn’t.
“ Wow ,” Will puffed out his cheeks before letting out a slow breath, “A whore ?  I’ve been called a lot of things, but a whore ?  That ones new.”
“Just like Apollo,” She crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“Oh yeah, that makes sense,” Will nodded in agreement, “but, well I hate to break it to you, but I’d like to think I’m pretty faithful to my boyfriend.  Unlike you so, I think that the term ‘ whore ’ would better apply to you.”  Will clicked his tongue and shrugged.
“Well,” Drew spluttered, obviously running out of insults, “at least I can get a date without even having to try.”
“Drew that is enough,” Piper spoke firmly, her voice cold, “you too Will.” She seemed a bit reluctant about that last part.
Will held up his hands in defense, “hey, I didn’t do anything.  Anyway, getting a date with no effort doesn’t really sound like love.”
“ Will, ” Piper shot him a pointed look, Will shrugged.
(Nail polish is gay)
I mean obviously there are a ton more since I have so many fics on my Ao3 but this was just a couple (a lot) from some of my more “recent” fics.  If you’ve made it this far, thanks and I hope you liked these small little bits.  Check out my Ao3 for more riordanverse fics and follow me on TikTok for cosplay (@phantomxlegend for both).

...
It was the morning of Calypso’s first day at the university. The first week would mostly be orientation, meaning getting to know her fellow students, the professors, the campus, her program and so on a bit better. She was feeling quite nervous because aside from Leo she hadn’t really met other students living in the area yet, and if she was honest with herself, her friend making skills weren’t the best. Due to the circumstances at her home, she had never had a close friend, and her relationships tended to end after a couple of months for various reasons. But this was finally a good chance to find other people interested in the same topics as she was, and she didn’t want to blow it up.
As she was making herself breakfast, her roommate showed up and sat down on a chair next to her, leaning his chin against the backrest. His fingers were tapping against the hard wood of the table like Calypso had already seen them do a few times in the past few days. The boy never seemed to be able to sit still.
“First day in this university, huh?” Leo asked. “You nervous?”
“What do you want?” Calypso asked suspiciously, not answering his question. She wasn’t feeling like opening up about her nervousness to this boy who for some reason made her feel even more restless. It was almost as if his nervous energy was contagious.
“Listen,” Leo started, now looking at her directly and stopping the tapping for a moment. “I know we haven’t exactly started off great, but we’re still going to be living together for a while so I thought we should at least be even. So. I fixed your desk.”
“I don’t want to owe you anything,” Calypso said matter-of-factly.
“You’re not owing me!” Leo exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air for a bigger impact. “I… well, Festus, but it was my fault… broke it so I thought it was the appropriate thing to do. But if you are too proud to…” His voice started to rise a bit. He had not expected Calypso to be that stubborn.
“Okay,” she said, putting her hand on his shoulder briefly to stop his rambling. “I’ll accept it. Thanks. I guess.”
“Not exactly the reaction I was expecting but I’ll accept it,” he mocked her tone and earned an angry look from Calypso. “I was hoping for something more like ‘thank you so much, my favorite roomie, you’re the best!’” To avoid another lash from her, he quickly changed the subject: “Anyway, I also wanted to tell you that we should probably take weekly turns with cleaning the common area, like I did with Jason. I can take this week if you want to.”
“No, I can take it.” Calypso said with a tone that meant this won’t be discussed further.
“Is there anything you can’t make an argument about, Miss Sunshine?” Leo stared at her with frustration while his hands were reaching for the chips from a bag he had left on the dining table the other day.
“You make it rather easy, Valdez. Also, who eats chips for breakfast?” She shook her head with disapproval. “Manners,” she mumbled under her breath before turning to put the milk back into the fridge. “Now, I’d like to finish my breakfast so if you excuse me…”
She took her bowl of cereals and an orange with her into her room and closed the door behind her.
“Don’t forget to get your books for next week, we’re already going to start with…” A professor announced at the end of his long lecture. The rest of his speech was drowned by the sound of the students starting to get up and collect their stuff to leave the class.
“When I signed up for this, I was not expecting them to have full blown lectures on the first day,” a blonde girl behind Calypso noted. Unlike Calypso, who felt overwhelmed by the amount of information she had just received, the other girl seemed almost bored as if she already knew everything they had been told.
“Yeah, me neither,” Calypso admitted, realizing that the girl was talking to her. “But I guess that’s university for you…”
“Right,” the blonde agreed. “Anyway, what’s your name? I don’t know anyone in this group yet but I’d like to change that.”
“Oh! I’m Calypso. Calypso Astal,” she gave the girl her hand to shake. “You can call me Cal, though…”
The other girl took it and shook it firmly. “Annabeth Chase. I’m actually an architect student but I’m also interested in history so I decided to make it my minor subject. I guess that means I’ll be seeing you a lot this semester!”
“Oh, that’s cool!” Calypso exclaimed. “I like drawing too but I doubt I would actually be good enough to design buildings.”
“There’s a lot that you need to take into account when designing,” Annabeth agreed, “but practice makes perfect.” As the girls passed a window that showed them the beautiful old main building of their university, she gestured at it and added: “One day I’d love to design something that will make people stop and say ‘hey, did you know this building was designed by none other than Annabeth Chase?’”
“To be honest, I haven’t thought that far,” Calypso admitted. “This is all still so new to me, I’ve been…” She decided she didn’t want to reveal her home circumstances to someone she had just met so she changed her approach: “well, there’s a lot I still want to experience so I have not devoted myself to just one path yet. I came here because I needed to get away, and history was an easy choice because I’ve always been interested in it. I still don’t picture myself researching the past events for the rest of my life.”
Annabeth nodded understandingly. “I think a lot of people of our age feel that way. My boyfriend… Well, now he’s having a swimming career but we both know that isn’t gonna last forever so I’ve been trying to get him to think of other possibilities for when he no longer feels the passion for competing. But he doesn’t see it the same way, he says I always plan too much ahead. Which I guess may be partially true,” she chuckled and rubbed the back of her head awkwardly, feeling she may have revealed a bit too much.
“Yeah. I like to go with a similar ‘go with the flow’ attitude as well.” In her head Calypso added: ‘because of what happened at home’.
“Anyway,” Annabeth decided to change the topic when she noticed Calypso had gone quiet. “This is a bit of a random question, but are you familiar with this town yet?”
“No, not yet.” Calypso shook her head. “I moved here only a week ago.”
“In that case, would you like me to show around some day?” Annabeth asked, opening her phone calendar. “I’d have time for example tomorrow.”
“Oh, sure, that would be great!” Calypso said. “Definitely beats listening to my roommate’s tinkering all day long.”
“Tinkering? You wouldn’t happen to be flatmates with Leo Valdez?” Annabeth connected the dots. The campus wasn’t that big and he had heard some stories through her boyfriend about one very enthusiastic mechanic.
“Unfortunately, I am. How did you know?” Calypso asked curiously.
“Oh, he has a bit of a reputation here,” Annabeth said mischievously. When Calypso looked at her suspiciously, she added: “I’m just kidding, my boyfriend is good friends with one guy named Jason who used to be Leo’s flatmate. I’ve never met him but I did keep hearing that he was constantly building something in his room. And also, Leo likes making a number of himself so he has put plenty of flashy ads on the uni bulletin boards telling about his mechanic business.”
“I guess I should have known that,” Calypso facepalmed.
“You don’t seem to like him very much, do you?” Annabeth asked, raising her eyebrow.
“Um…” Calypso wasn’t sure why she was revealing all this to a stranger, but it just felt right. “Our chemistry just… isn’t working. We’re very different and…” She tried to think of other reasons for their issues, which turned out to be harder than she expected. She realized that she didn’t really know him yet. “Uh, his dog broke my desk on the day I moved in and I’ve been mad at him ever since. He did apologize but… something about his attitude irks me. I don’t even know what it is.”
Annabeth’s mouth curled up a bit in amusement. She wanted to say that sounded a lot like her relationship with her boyfriend Percy had started. “That happens sometimes. Maybe… give him another chance, though. I mean, I don’t really know him or anything but sometimes the first impressions aren’t the best ones. You haven’t been living together for a long time yet, so there’s probably a lot you don’t know about him.”
“Yeah. You’re right. I feel kind of silly for complaining about that to a stranger. But thanks for listening!”
“No problem! Listen, I should get going now because I have a meeting with some architect friends but I’ll see you tomorrow, right?”
“Yeah! You bet!”
The girls quickly exchanged their phone numbers before separating to their own ways. As Calypso was walking towards her flat, though, she felt a small smile spread on her face. Maybe she had just made her first friend.
..
When Calypso got inside, to her surprise she found her broken desk waiting for her near her room. Only, it wasn’t broken anymore. She had wondered where it had disappeared after the incident but hadn’t really given it too much thought considering the state of the desk, thinking that Leo might have taken it to a recycling center or something. However, it turned out he had done a lot more than that. The broken board had been replaced with a new one and he had also sandpapered the surface, painted it and varnished it so it looked better than it had looked when it was brand new. Calypso could only stare with an open mouth at the fine job he had done. Once she had finally recovered from the surprise a bit, she yelled:
“Valdez!”
“¿Sí?” he peeked from his room, not sure what to expect. To his surprise, he saw the first genuine smile he had seen on her face.
“Would you like to help me to carry this into my room?” she asked in a friendly manner, still smiling. Leo took that as a win and agreed to help.
When they were done, Calypso did another thing that surprised both herself and him: she gently touched his arm and said: “Thanks. It looks good. And I mean it.”
“Leo Valdez, always ready to help.” He made a silly bowing gesture that made Calypso snort.
“You know, maybe you’re not quite so bad after all.”
Leo rolled his eyes. “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you this whole time,” he said, but there were no ill feelings behind his words.
“Now go before I change my mind,” Calypso said playfully. Leo gave her his signature grin and as he left the room, he felt he had finally managed to crack her cover a bit.

Prompt Percy introducing his boyfriends nico and Jason to sally and Paul
(I respond better to requests instead of prompts. Because, while I’m aware this... prompt-format is widely accepted, it comes off too much like a demand and I prefer a “Hey do you think you can write x” featuring a “Please”. I think that’s the proper, polite way to ask someone for something. Just, for the future. ;3)
Paul had always known his stepson was doing things differently and liked to do the exact opposite of what other people expected. When it came to partners, Percy never had a type like some others - there had been Rachel, the fierce, redheaded artist, followed by Reyna, who was a kickboxer from Puerto Rico, lastly Mike, a Hawaiian boy Percy had met last summer when working at the surf-shop his biological father owned in Kaua’i. In between, Paul remembered, Percy had that summer-fling when he was sixteen with Calypso, the pretty daughter of the owner of the hotel Paul, Sally and Percy had been staying at.
To make it short, Paul never knew what kind of person to expect when Percy said he was bringing someone home. Just like he had said last week on the phone, excitedly telling his mom about them.
‘Them’, in this case, had not been used to be obscure about his partner’s gender to mess with Paul (something that boy thoroughly enjoyed), but rather because there was two of them.
“Oh, I missed you so much, Percy!”, exclaimed Sally as she pulled her son into a tight hug. “And who are those two handsome young men?”
“I missed you too, mom”, replied Percy with a smile, gladly returning the hug. “Mom, Paul, this is Nico and this is Jason and they’re my boyfriends.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Blofis. Percy talks a lot about you”, stated Nico with a charming smile, shaking Sally’s hand.
“Yeah, he always talks so much about New York and his friends here that Neeks and I really wanted to come and see Percy’s home”, tagged Jason on.
And this was new, even for Percy. While Percy didn’t have a type, he had always only had one partner at a time. Though somehow, Paul wasn’t very surprised.
Staying on brand, both his boyfriends appeared to have nothing in common with each other or with anyone Percy had dated before.
Nico had an Italian accent, olive-colored skin and dark eyes - seeming even darker thanks to the make-up. He was wearing black jeans and a studded belt, a black shirt with a skull on it, the skull on his belt-buckle matching, so did the ring - also a skull but with ruby eyes. Everything about the kid screamed “no-good punk, bad influence, remove from son”.
Jason however appeared to be the exact opposite. He was wearing a purple university sweater and glasses, he had blonde hair and sky-blue eyes and overall gave off that “every mom’s dream son-on-law”-vibe.
Paul had enough experience with Percy, his friends and former romantic partners to know not to fall for how someone looked. Still, those two radiated such vastly different energies.
And between them stood Percy, the brightest, happiest smile on his lips as he had his fingers linked with them both, sea-green eyes sparkling joyfully.
“You two better not make him sad or upset”, warned Paul sternly.
“Are you threatening my boyfriends?”, asked Percy scandalized.
“Not so much, I’m more relaying Poseidon’s message”, assured Paul cheerfully before turning to Nico and Jason. “You see, Percy’s other dad, he is a ruthless yakuza boss and you should not provoke him.”
Jason and Nico exchanged a dubious look behind Percy’s head before looking at Percy. As Paul turned around to lead them to the living room he heard one of them whisper something softly.
“...Your dad is kidding, right?”
“Have I mentioned that I love you two a lot?”, was all Percy offered in return.
“That’s not an answer, Jackson!”
Sally next to Paul heaved a sigh and glared sternly at her husband. “You didn’t have to say that. Look at the poor boys.”
“Oh please, let me have some fun too, love”, huffed Paul. “You know Percy enjoys messing with me. Allow me some small pay-back. Besides, it really is just what Poseidon told me to relay to them.”
“I’m still unsure about my ex and my husband having a group-chat”, muttered Sally and shook her head.
The group-chat’s name was ‘the Percy Jackson protection squad’ and it had been set up by Grover Underwood, Percy’s best and longest friend. Over the years, more and more people had been added to it - including all of Percy’s exes with whom he was still close friends and many friends. This reminded Paul though, he had promised Annabeth and Grover pictures of Percy with his boyfriends, since Annabeth was currently in San Francisco in college, while Grover was away with his fiance Juniper.
Turning around, Paul caught the three boys in an unguarded moment, still debating just how dangerous Percy’s father really was (the answer was very dangerous. The last man to hurt Percy, and Sally, had ended up with beton-shoes that reached all the way up to his hairline and he was never seen again). Percy had a hand resting on Jason’s chest, the other in Nico’s neck as the two just parted from a kiss, a soft look on Percy’s face.
It was the perfect picture to post in the group-chat and let everyone know that Paul had effectively put the fear of god - or, well, Poseidon - in the newest additions to Percy’s life, just to know that whoever broke Percy’s heart would have to answer to a very dedicated, protective and loving army.

merry christmas, happy holidays
(it’s already the 23rd, right? i can post this?)
make the yuletide gay!
i took part of the @pjosecretsanta2k17 project this year! my gift (a short and sweet fanfic, as you may have been able to guess) goes to @megagrandstudentjellyfish, merry christmas! i hope you like this. it’s a little (a lot) shorter than what i usually write, but well, i like it? read it under the cut for now, i’ll be posting it to ao3 before new year’s!
name: It’s Christmas, I love you pairing: solangelo rating: teen and up notes: a fluff explosion in which nico does not get arts and crafts and will is flawless as always
Nico has glitter glue under his nails. And in his hair. And he’s pretty sure some got into his eyebrows, too.
He tries not to mind. He constantly looks away from his nails and makes a conscious decision to avoid reflective surfaces when he glances up. It’s not that hard, really – except for when he has to cut something and has to pay attention to his hands more in order to not cut himself. He barely manages to bite down a curse the third time this happens and he sees his nails again. It’s going to be hell trying to get all the glitter off.
Across the table Will has a permanent grin on his face. He’s wearing the horrible thing he calls his Christmas sweater that Cecil gifted him three years ago as a joke, and his hands work expertly on the different types of paper and glitter and glue like he was made for arts and crafts. (Being a son of Apollo, maybe he was.) The radio plays the third different version of Jingle Bell Rock within two hours, and Will tosses his head around and sings along from the bottom of his heart.
Will can’t sing to save his life. Nico wants to go find earplugs. He’s also pretty sure he’s never loved or hated Will as much as he does right now.
”How many more of these do we have to make?” Nico asks, wondering if he could distract Will enough that he’d maybe forgot about the stupid Christmas cards. It sounds unlikely, but Nico would be willing to take the chance.
Will seems to go through some sort of mental checklist, then looks at the ready cards, sitting in neat piles by their empty mugs. ”I’d say maybe five or six more, maybe eight just in case I forgot someone.”
Nico sighs and looks at the stacks of crafting supplies. ”We’ve been doing this all day! I have glitter all over and I’m pretty sure I’ve cut my fingers more times than I’ve been stabbed.” He pouts, kicking his leg under the table and brushes Will’s ankle with his socked foot. The action is much more caring and patient than his voice. ”Who are we even sending these to? I wasn’t aware we knew this many people.”
Rolling his eyes, Will sets aside another perfectly crafted Christmas card with bells and snowflakes and reindeer and pushes his hair out of his face. No excess glitter anywhere. Nico is extremely jealous and also mildly pissed off. ”Well, Hazel and Frank, for starters. Cecil, Lou Ellen, Jason and Piper, Percy and Annabeth, Leo, my mom, Chiron, my dad, your dad, Austin and the rest of my cabin – ”
”Hold on, what was that?” Nico makes a time out sign with his hands and looks at Will like he’s grown a second head. ”We are sending out Christmas cards to our dads?”
”Yes?”
”Christmas cards. To our dads. To actual real life pagan gods.”
”Yes – ”
”Seriously, Will?”
Will gets up with a sigh and picks up their mugs in the process. ”I’ve told you. It’s about the tradition, not the religion. It’s a nice gesture. Trust me, they won’t read too much into it.”
Nico watches as Will fills up their mugs with more hot chocolate and wonders if Will has officially lost his mind forever. ”Maybe your dad won’t, but my dad? Wouldn’t be so sure.” He takes the scissors and uses the blade to try and get the silvery goo from his nails. ”I did tell you about that time Hazel talked about going to Sunday mass out of curiosity and dad flipped out, didn’t I?”
Will hums in response and adds whipped cream to their beverages. And sprinkles. And cinnamon waffle sticks. ”You did, but this is hardly the same thing. The cards don’t even mention Christmas.”
”I don’t think my dad cares if they say merry Christmas or happy holidays, Will.” Nico gives up with the scissors and tosses them across the table. They knock down a particularly neat card with a silhouette of a reindeer against the northern lights on it. ”It’s still a Christmas card, and Hades is very much not a fan.”
Finally satisfied with the hot chocolates, Will turns to look at Nico. He places the refilled mugs on the table, then circles around it to where Nico sits and promptly lowers himself to sit on Nico’s lap, arms tangling past Nico’s shoulders and chests pressed together. No matter how annoyed Nico is, there’s no way he’s going to resist Will like this, ever. Perhaps that’s what Will is counting on. Nico can’t find it in himself to care that he’s being played, not when the player is such a handsome one.
”My boyfriend, the worrier”, Will mutters and presses a kiss on Nico’s forehead. The gesture is sweet, something Will has taken to as an everyday way of showing affection to Nico without using words. It melts Nico inside, just a little bit. ”Always thinking too much.”
Nico is about to argue, possibly something about it being impossible to worry too much about pissing off the gods. However, Will’s fingers choose that exact moment to start playing with the hairs at the back of Nico’s neck, and damn, Will’s good. How is it that he knows exactly what to do to get things his way with Nico? How is it that Nico doesn’t even really care that Will wins so easily?
Will leans down and catches Nico’s lips in a kiss that tastes like hot chocolate and peppermint sprinkles. Nico closes his eyes and his arms follow the familiar path to wrap themselves around Will’s waist, bringing their bodies closer and making him tilt his head a tiny bit back to make sure his lips stay connected with Will’s. Their noses brush together, and Nico’s is a little bit colder than Will’s, like it always is. Will is always so warm; it’s one of the perks of being the son of a sun god. Nico doesn’t mind one bit, especially on cold winter nights when their bodies press together under the covers. Or on December afternoons when Will sits in his lap and he manages to sneak his cold fingers under Will’s jumper.
”If you think that’s payback”, Will mutters against Nico’s lips when Nico’s fingers mimic the soft caresses of Will’s own, drawing patterns on the soft skin on Will’s lower back, ”then you should know me better than that. Your fingers are always cold. I’ve never had a problem with them before, now, have I?”
Nico hums in appreciation when one of Will’s fingers traces the hairline on his neck. ”It’s not payback”, he admits between their slow kisses. ”Maybe I’m merely trying to distract you.”
”Hmm, clever.” Will’s other hand tangles itself in Nico’s hair entirely, and he’s so warm, oh so warm. ”Very clever indeed.”
”Is it working?”
Nico feels the grin on Will’s lips before he opens his eyes and the mirth in Will’s. ”Not quite well enough, I’m afraid.” With a final peck on Nico’s lips Will leans back, but doesn’t yet get up from his lap. ”I don’t get why you think it’s such a big deal. It’s just a card. Surely your dad can’t read too much into it.”
Nico wants to argue. He really, really does. But he’s getting kind of tired of repeating himself, so he just groans and buries his face to Will’s chest because hey, it’s very conveniently right there. He feels Will’s laughter rumble against his forehead, and Will’s arms hug his head closer, and this is actually a very comfortable place to suffocate to death.
”Besides”, Will prompts, laughter still evident in his voice, and rests his chin on top of Nico’s head, ”what if, when we get married, we decide we want to have a traditional church wedding, hm? Are you saying your dad would disown you and not attend?”
That’s where Nico’s brain short circuits. Married? Wedding? He feels himself go rigid in Will’s hold, but he doesn’t raise his head. He can tell his face is beet red. His pulse picks up for a moment before he can get it under control.
Sure, they have been together for years. They’ve lived together for three years already. They’re adults, from a social point of view anyway, and they have got their lives together, more or less. In theory, the next assumed step to take is to get married, to settle down and start ”the next big chapter” as Jason put it in his speech in Percy and Annabeth’s wedding.
But Nico still can’t help but feel like this is all pretty sudden. He hasn’t given marriage a second thought, has he? Like, sure, when they were sitting at the reception at Percy’s wedding and he looked at Will, smiling and laughing and looking pretty damn good in a well fitted tux, Nico might have wondered if Will would want to wear one to their wedding, too. And okay, hearing from Jason about all the different choices he has to make concerning his wedding with Piper, about the location and the cake and the music… of course it makes Nico wonder a little what he would personally like. And maybe, just maybe, he’s spared a thought or two to wonder if much would change, after all, if he and Will did one day get married.
It’s a terrifying line of thought. Not the part where Nico marries Will; that part is pretty obviously nice and exciting. But the part where he’s not even a little bit scared about it? About marriage, about binding himself to another human being for the rest of his life? That’s the scary part.
And now, Nico isn’t even afraid of what Will would say, if one day in the not so far away future he would actually ask him.
Relaxing his muscles, Nico lifts his head just enough to press his face against the smooth skin of Will’s neck. ”Truth be told, I don’t know what he would do.” He gives a quick kiss to Will’s pulse point before propping his chin up on Will’s shoulder. ”But I don’t think we’ll find out by sending him a Christmas card.”
It’s not a proposal, but definitely not a dismissal. It’s not even a real conversation about the possibility. They have barely even brushed the subject of marriage, but still Nico feels like there’s some kind of understanding between them now. There’s no pressure, if maybe a slight layer of expectation. Nothing to panic about, and certainly not a discussion to have at this moment. And that’s quite alright
They sit in their little tangle for a while. Will plays with Nico’s hair again, and Nico runs his hands gently up and down Will’s back over the sweater. The radio plays an overly cheery recording of Winter Wonderland, and the hot chocolate is getting cold on the table. Will hums along the radio. Nico is in love.
It isn’t until Nico starts losing the feel of his toes that he gently pats Will on the thigh and leans back. ”Okay, time to get back to it, then. My legs are falling asleep.”
”Is that your subtle way of telling me I should start dieting?” Will teases with a poor attempt of hurt in his voice, but does get up. Nico misses his warmth immediately.
Watching Will as he rounds the table to sit in his own chair again, Nico wonders what he did right in his past life to have a chance with someone like Will in this one. Or maybe it’s the Fates’ strange way of trying to balance out all the suffering in Nico’s youth, who knows. Whatever it is, Nico is definitely not one to complain.
”No”, he says and links his ankles with Will’s under the table and takes a sip of his now lukewarm hot chocolate, ”it’s my way of telling you that it better be one hell of a Christmas card if you intend to send it to my dad. He’s kind of picky when it comes to aesthetics.”
Will’s smile glitters more than Nico’s nails.

Princess 2: Poison
Hey! So this is the other chapter from the Princess!AU I had going. It isn’t sequential, and takes place much farther in the future. Percabeth is an established thing, has been for a while. Again, this won’t be a series any time soon, you guys just requested the other chapter I had in mind, and this was it! More after! Oh, and shoutout to @cakesnomnom for convincing me to actually write it up.
XxXxXxXxX
Annabeth peaked out the window with a sigh, watching the forest pass by them as they trotted along. Now normally, Annabeth would have preferred to ride out in front on a horse with them, next to Percy, but he had thrown a fit. They were traveling to a neutral village to have peace talks with their neighboring country. They had been in a slow war for a few years now, neither side willing to fully invest themselves into a massive assault.
Hence, the fact that they were traveling outside of the safety of their borders.
Percy, being the overprotective boyfriend/knight he was, refused to let her ride out in the open. Now while she had the authority to do whatever she wanted, she was the princess after all, it was clear how much it worried him. He had started rambling on about ambushes, archers, traps. He had even started warning her about the dangers of poison ivy. To shut him up, and get rid of her least favorite expression he wore, one of concern and fear, she had kissed him and agreed to ride in the carriage. At least once they had crossed the border.
So now here they were, just a few minutes outside of the village. Percy had put his helmet back on, and was riding in the front. Unfortunately. Annabeth hated that helmet. When he wore it, she couldn't see his expressions, his messy hair, her favorite smirk. Most importantly, it hid his beautiful eyes. She had actually ordered him to never wear the helmet unless they were in some sort of official or public business. Luckily he didn't seem to mind, claimed it was too stuffy anyway.
Annabeth was about to get out and just ride the rest of her way when she heard his voice cut through the forest.
“HOLD!” His voice was clear and precise. “Jason, Frank, on Annabeth.” He ordered as he hopped off the horse.
Peering out the window curiously, Annabeth's hand grabbed her sword just in case. The hell if she was going to be protected while she sat in a little box while her friends risked their lives. Looking farther down the lane, Annabeth's heart skipped a beat. There was a little girl, her back against a tree as she sobbed, two thugs looming over her. She couldn't hear the conversation, but they said something, the girl flinched, then Percy stepped up. Words were exchanged, and Percy glanced back, as if asking for permission.
Hardly debating a moment, Annabeth nodded, as she placed her sword back down and rested her arm on the window to watch. Percy said something to the thugs, who both drew their swords. A few minutes later both of them were on the ground, and Percy was stowing his sword as he turned to the little girl. The little girl said something, and Percy knelt down. A small smile played at Annabeth's lip as she saw him speak to her, before rustling her hair, then she wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug. A warmth spread through Annabeth's chest. Percy really was good with kids, and some part of her imagined seeing him with kids of their own. Blushing, and shaking out her head, she saw him walking back. Eating... something. Quirking an eyebrow, she looked on until she saw he was munching happily on an apple. “She was delivering them to her grandparents. Made me take one as thanks for saving her.” He offered with a shrug. He climbed back on the horse, and soon the caravan was finishing up the last few minuets of the journey. Realizing she actually had to get back into princess mode, Annabeth took a deep breath and pushed idle thoughts of domestic life out of her mind.
They were dealing with the kingdom of Tartarus. Where luke had fled after he betrayed them. Still, they needed this war over. It was costing too many lives, and there was little prospect for either side actually winning in any meaningful way.
The air had been tense as they made their way through the village. Everyone could tell it was a royal caravan, and no one dared tried anything risky. Especially those who recognized some of the elite members of the Olympian army guarding the princess.
When the caravan finally wound to a halt, Annabeth made sure her crown was on just right, and settled her necklace properly. A gift from Percy after their first year knowing each other.
The door opened, and Percy was standing there, hand outstretched as he helped her out of the carriage. Hardly needed, but they were in public and their image was important. It had never been confirmed to the public that they were an item, but there certain had been rumors flying around for a while now. Ones she hadn't exactly denied overtly. It was just better to stay quiet, for both of them, until a more opportune time presented itself. No matter how much she just wanted to brag about her boyfriend, and use him as a shield from the annoying suitors that held no interest in her other than what rested on top of her head, and between her legs.
No, it was all proper and formal procedure as they were lead to the neutral grounds for the negotiations, and as they began. Both Annabeth, and one of the princes from Tartarus sat in the room, each allowed a single guard, the rest waited outside. There was no question who Annabeth chose, but she didn't recognize the guard of compatriot. Which was both good, and bad. Glad he didn't seem to be famous enough for a legacy, but unknown factors were always scary.
It seemed like her fears were for naught though, as the negotiations had passed without a hitch. They hadn't exactly reached a clear agreement yet, but it seemed both kingdoms tired of the war, and the drain it put on them, and were both looking to settle. It would take some more time, and some more consultations with the heads of each country respectively, but Annabeth felt hopeful.
“I guess that concludes talks for the day.” The man said with a yawn, rolling up his scroll of notes and passing it off to his guard to hold. Annabeth neatly closed her book and wrapped the cord around it as she tucked it into her bag. She trusted Percy with her life, her heart, and her kingdom. But damn if she trusted him with anything she needed him to keep in his possession for more than 5 minutes. His ability to lose things was only matched by his skill with a sword.
As she stood up to leave, she heard the man say one last thing.
“Say, Princess Chase. Have you ever chopped a redwood before?”
She froze, instantly understanding he was hinting at something. Standing up straight, she looked back at him with a careful expression. “I have, actually. It's extremely practical to learn basic survival skills. That includes camping.”
The man nodded, unphased. “They really are mighty trees. Stretch all the way to the heavens, and larger than a man laying from one end to the other. How do you suppose you go about chopping one. Do you start at the top?”
Annabeth paused, regarding him carefully. “Of course not. That's the hardest spot to reach, and needless effort. Take out the base, and the rest will come crumbling down.” Annabeth offered.
The man nodded, his wicked grin never leaving his face. “Of course. Just thought I'd ask. I'm thinking of going camping later, and thought I'd make sure I was doing it right.” He offered, before standing up and walking out of the room before Annabeth could respond.
Letting Percy lead the way as she tried to puzzle out the remarks from the prince, Annabeth had a bad feeling in her gut. Her intuition was screaming that something was wrong. There was no chance in hell he was just asking about logging. He was far too smart for that. She had barely flinched as a random villager had jumped out of the crowd with a knife as he headed for her. Percy had successfully pinned and disarmed him moments later anyway. She merely had hopped in the carriage and was beginning to the ride back. At one point she had seen Percy pulled up next to the carriage on his horse. He took off his helmet as he leaned over to speak with her.
“Why was he asking about chopping down trees. Wouldn't he have someone else to do that for him?”
Annabeth just laughed, reaching out the window to cup his face with a hand gently. It seemed Percy had caught the strange remark as well, even if he hadn't quite pieced together what the meaning was behind it either. She was about to reply when she noticed his condition. She frowned, leaning over to get a better look. “Percy, you look a little pale.” She said, concern dripping from her tone. “Maybe you should ride inside...”
Percy sat back up proper, putting on his helmet after flashing her his signature grin. “I'm fine. Just a little tired is all.” He offered before riding back to be in the front of the caravan.
Annabeth glared after him, debating pulling rank and just ordering him in the caravan. But she figured he was as stubborn as she was and that he was also built like an Ox so he'd be fine. She would just make sure he had the day off tomorrow. Maybe they could finally try that new restaurant that had opened up too.
Before long they had successfully passed the border back to their own country without issue. They were met at the border by the local guard, and Annabeth switched to riding her horse back. She needed some fresh open air after that long ride anyway.
Normally whenever she was riding, Percy would fall in beside her almost immediately. Both for security reasons, and because they just enjoyed each other's company. Only this time, he didn't make a move from the head of the caravan. Frowning, Annabeth began to feel a panic building up within her. First he looked pale, and now he was ignoring her. Craning her neck to look ahead, she saw his head was down. Was he moping about something? Annabeth ran over the entire meeting in her mind, but she couldn't think of any thing Percy could have done that would have him upset. He had acted perfectly.
Spurring on her horse, she sped up to his side.
“Percy, are you okay?” She asked gently, peaking over and trying to get a good look at his face under his helmet.
He gave her a quick nod. “Just a little tired. Been in the sun too long in this armor I think.” He offered. His voice sounded off, but Annabeth figured it was just exhaustion. They had been riding for ages, and Percy had been tense since they first left the borders.
“I see. Well you can say what you want about that kingdom, their architecture certainly is beautiful. If you noticed the molding on all of the buildings, they run with the theme of...” Annabeth continued to recount what she had learned both from the visit there, and the books she had read on the subject.
Before long though, she realized Percy wasn't even offering the polite “uh-huh” that he usually did when she got into a rant about architecture.
“You know, even if you're only pretending to listen, you could try a little harder.” She teased.
When she didn't hear a response, she looked over curiously. Her eyes widened when she saw Percy's head bobbing, before he slumped forward on his horse.
Before Annabeth could grab the reigns of the horse. Percy's body slid off the side and collapsed in a heap on the ground. She saw him fall in slow motion, her heart falling with him and shattering to pieces.
Letting out a shriek, Annabeth quickly hopped off her own horse as she knelt down next to him, trying to roll him over. Ripping off his helmet, she found his face a pale green. Most concerning though were the streaks of blood leaving the corners of his mouth. Reaching up with a shaking hand, she found his temperature was burning.
In a second, the rest of her guards had formed a protective circle around her and Percy, looking for any possible outside threats as Jason knelt next to her to figure out the situation.
She saw his eyes widened, before he quickly fished around Percy's neck for a pulse. Letting out a sigh of relief, she saw him looked at her as his shoulders relaxed ever so slightly. “He has a pulse.” He confirmed, letting Annabeth breath again. “But it's weak. I don't know whats wrong with him... it's like he was poisoned... But we never ate any-”
“The apple.” Annabeth spoke in a cold tone. The apple the kid had given him. Fist clenching in the dirt, Annabeth felt a fist around her heart. She didn't know if the kid had known what they were doing, but this war had already cost too many lives. Percy's was not one she was going to lose. She refused.
Standing up and attempting to hide fear that was growing in her very core, she looked at everyone.
“Percy's been poisoned.” Her voice cracked slightly on the last word, nevertheless she pressed on. “Jason, get him into the carriage, we're heading straight back now, as fast as we can. Frank, get Hazel. Now.”
The large man paused, clearly not expecting to be called out. “I... I do-”
Annabeth took a step towards him, the frustration leaking from her. “I don't care about the kingdom's policy on witches. I swear on the crown she'll have my protection while she's here. I know you are close to her. Go get her now and bring her to the castle, or else.” She said, before turning without waiting for a response. Frank was a good man, he'd never let his friend die. Neither would Hazel, from what Annabeth had heard.
Jason was already finishing loading the young man into the carriage as Annabeth climbed in with him.
“Get us home. Now.” She ordered before closing the door.
Beginning to strip Percy out of his armor, she kept running a hand through his hair. It was faint, but she could see the smallest rise and fall of his chest. She felt like her world was cracking. Her mind wasn't quite as sharp, and her heart rate was far too fast to be healthy. Percy was dying in her arms, and there was nothing she could do about it. No knowledge in her arsenal would cure him. No gold in her coffers would help. She would bring together all the best magic and medicine she could to save him. She would save him, if it was the last thing she did.
They had been through far too much together to be separated by a poisoned apple.
She had too keep it together though. Too much was riding on this. No matter how much of her life was currently dying in her arms, she was still the princess and she didn't have the luxury of losing control. Percy would be fine, and then they would address this unforgivable act.
She jumped when she felt a hand cup her cheek.
“Your nose scrunches up when you're angry.” Percy's weak voice offered. His thumb brushed over the edge of it gently. “Promise me you won't do anything stupid. I'm not worth making a mistake over.” He said, before he coughed a few times, splattering Annabeth's sleeve with blood. He tried to reach up again, but his arm struggled to make it. Leaning down, Annabeth gently nudged her head into his hand, staring at him with wide desperate eyes.
“Shut up Percy. You are worth everything to me. This crown means nothing to me if you aren't by my side. You aren't allowed to leave me. You will be okay. I order you to be.” She said weakly, unable to stop the tears that cascaded down her face and splashed onto his.
Percy just offered her one last grin, wiping a tear with a weak thumb before his eyes slid shut and his head lolled to the side.
Annabeth shrieked in horror, but she still felt a gentle breath coming out of his chest. He was alive. By God, he was alive.
Annabeth just ran her hand through his hair over and over again like she knew he loved.
He would be okay.
He would be okay.
He would be okay.
When they finally reached the kingdom, Annabeth found the best doctors already waiting for them. Apparently someone had rode ahead and warned them of what to expect. Chiron had already put everything in place, and Hazel was waiting as well.
As they carried Percy in on a stretcher, she strode elegantly beside him. Her red eyes the only sign of any crack in her composure, in the public she remained as regal as ever as they accompanied Percy to the infirmary.
She stood by the side as they worked, attempting to figure out the exact poison, how to counteract it, and Hazel's magic. She refused to leave her side, and thankfully her status prevented anyone from even thinking of ordering her to.
After what felt like hours, the doctors had identified the poison. It was strong, but with a name to the poison Hazel was able to counteract it. Annabeth had already sent to have any imaginable ingredient or catalyst brought over so they were quick to act.
Eventually the witch had told her that it was up to Percy now. The poison was being burned out of his system, but his body still had to fight the fight.
Percy was resting in Annabeth's personal bed, and only Jason was left.
She turned to him, still sitting on the edge of the bed and running a hand through her knight's hair. “Get Piper.” She said without looking up from Percy's sleeping face.
Jason nodded. “As you wish. Should I bring her here directly?”
Annabeth looked at him, and she could already feel her walls crumbling to bits. It was a miracle she had kept it together as long as she had.
“Please.” Was all she said as her voice cracked on the word.
Sensing her distress, Jason quickly made his way out towards his girlfriend's house.
Meanwhile, Annabeth lost it. Collapsing on the bed, she curled up against her boyfriend's side as she sobbed into his shoulder.
Any dignity or grace she had left her as she broke down. She wasn't the princess of a kingdom. She wasn't the youth prodigy of the battlefield. She was just a young woman who had nearly lost the love of her life.
Annabeth couldn't tell how long it had been but eventually Piper had barged into the room. The merchant girl had a small bag which she dumped on the edge of the bed before she pulled Annabeth into a tight hug.
Accepting the comfort from the only person she trusted as much as Percy, she just cried over her shoulder. Piper held her friend, rubbing her back gently.
Eventually Annabeth calmed down enough to sit back.
She saw her friend looking at her with a patient smile. “I brought you cookies and your favorite cider.” She said, gesturing to the end of the bed with the bag.
Unable to help the small smile that crept on her face, Annabeth nodded. “Thank you.” She said in a slightly hoarse voice.
Piper just nodded, patting her on the head patiently. A few minutes later and the girls were sitting on the end of the bed, quietly chatting. Piper was telling Annabeth all the stories of the varied, and unusually odd customers that always found their way to her shop. Annabeth had to suppress her giggles a few times to avoid disturbing Percy, but she was grateful for Piper. She had needed a distraction to break her from her own downward spiral of worry and doubt.
Eventually though, Annabeth put down her cookie and hung her head. “What if he doesn't get better? I can't... I don't know if I can do this without him. He's save my life so many times. I know it's silly. He's just... so important to me.” Annabeth trailed off, glancing back at the sleeping boy.
Piper rested a hand her shoulder. “Annabeth, look at me. You won't need to. Percy is too stubborn to die. He will be back to normal before you know it, goofing off with Jason. The four of us can get a nice quiet dinner somewhere, and try to forget everything, okay?” She said, her voice slipping into that tone that seemed to sway anyone's mind.
Annabeth nodded after a moment. “That sounds... nice.”
Piper smirked. “Of course it does. Now it's late, and I need to get back. I kinda left things in a hurry. If Percy isn't better by tomorrow I'll swing by again, and I'll bring some wine this time.” She said with a wink.
Annabeth nodded after a moment. Moving over to her dresser, she pulled out a small bag of coins. She gave it to Piper. “I'm sure I cost you money by dragging you out here tonight. I know today was a prime day for sales.” She offered a bit sheepishly.
Piper just shook her head, pushing back the money. “I'm not friends with you for your money, princess. I'd close down my shop for good before I turned my back on you.”
An uncontrollable grin crept over Annabeth's face. “I know. That's why you're the best. Even if you're still technically not allowed to sell to the crown because you're too good at bartering.”
Piper just winked again, nudging Annabeth with her hip.
Annabeth laughed and forced her to take the money. “It's really my pleasure though. You've done a lot for us. Use this to treat yourself for once. Take a day off.”
Piper looked in the bag, gasping slightly. “More like a week.” She muttered, before rolling her eyes and safely storing the coin. “Fine. If you insist.”
Giving Annabeth one last long hug, she turned to Percy. Leaning down, she kissed his forehead, whispering quietly. “Get better Percy, your princess needs you.”
Waving goodbye to Annabeth, she quickly made her way back to her shop, a whistle in her step and a jingle in her purse.
Judging by the moon in the sky, Annabeth figured she had talked with her friend longer than expected. Quickly giving an order to the guard outside her door, she arranged for an escort for her friend. It wasn't exactly safe to wander the streets at night with an absurd amount of money in a purse.
Telling her guard she was turning in for the night, Annabeth quickly changed into her sleepwear.
Raising the covers, she slid underneath them and nestled herself against Percy. He was looking a little less pale, and his breathing was more consistent. She kissed his forehead one last time. “I'm waiting for you, seaweed brain. Please come home.” She muttered, before she curled up a little closer and passed out.

Annabeth woke up to the sun streaming through her windows. She figured they must have canceled her wake up call after the events of the last day, something she definitely needed to thank them for.
Annabeth had hoped to wake up to her favorite pair of strong arms around her, but Percy was still fast asleep, even if he did look a little healthier.
Sitting up, Annabeth dropped her head into her hands as the gravity of the situation set in again. Moving to the edge of the bed, she set her feet on the floor. She should get up, get ready, and call for doctors. It had been a while, maybe there was something more they could do to help Percy n-
“It's too early.” Percy's voice was so soft, Annabeth would have missed it if she hadn't been yearning to hear his voice for ages.
In a flash she was next to him, leaning over him. “Percy? Was that you? Say something. Please.”
Annabeth saw his eyes shift before they fluttered open after a moment. They were a bit bloodshot, but they were open. Thank God they were open.
“An-nn..” He muttered weakly.
He tried to sit up but Annabeth held a hand to his shoulder. “No. You were just poisoned and nearly died. Do not try to move right now.” She ordered. She was not in the mood to deal with his defiant ass, especially after he was so close to recovering.
Percy seemed to understand her tone and she felt him relax back against the bed. “Okay.” He muttered, before his eyebrows knit together. “Poisoned? Are you okay?” He asked worriedly, one hand reaching up to grab her wrist.
Nodding, Annabeth felt her heart swell at the sound of his voice. He was okay. He was okay.
“It was just you, idiot. We're all fine. We're going to be okay.” She repeated to herself.
Percy nodded after a moment. “As long as you're okay.”
Annabeth just leaned down, kissing him properly. “You can't scare me like that again. I almost lost you. We have too much to do, you mean too much to me. Promise me you won't almost leave me like that again.” She said before she kissed him again.
“Promise.” He said after a moment. His eyes were drooping, and it was clear he was still utterly exhausted.
“Good. Now sleep. You still need to recover.”
Percy nodded. “Sounds good.” He muttered, before his hand snaked up her arm a little. “Can I be selfish?” He asked in a whisper.
Annabeth raised an eyebrow. “Always. What do you want?”
“Can... you stay? I know you have meetings and stuff. But... One of my dreams had you being attacked... and I wasn't able to do anything... And I know you can take care of yourself, but I can't sleep knowing you could be in dan- He was cut off from his tired rambling as Annabeth kissed him. “Quiet. Of course. The kingdom can wait a day. Besides, I don't think you understand how worried I was. It's not like I can think very clearly with you sick as well.” She offered before she pulled the covers back and snuggled up against him under the sheets. His arms wrapped around her, not quite their usual firm embrace, but welcome just the same. Annabeth made up for it by snuggling just a little closer anyway. Before long she felt his breathing slow as he fell back asleep.
Annabeth figured the officials could wait for a debrief a little longer. She had written out a brief note for them anyway when they were working on him so they knew the details. Kissing Percy's jaw, she buried her head into him and let sleep overtake her again.
Percy would be okay. They would be okay. They'd figure out everything else later, right now they just had each other and that was enough.
