Driven by a Holy Force
Hell or High Water - Percy Jackson/DC crossover
Summary:
“Percy took a deep breath. This was it. No going back now. He can’t manipulate the mist to change their minds, he can’t make them forget—this was the real deal.”
This is it!! The reveal!!
*********************************************
You: Come to the cave 2:26 am
You: Important meeting 2:26 am
Edge Lord: no 2:29 am
Edge Lord: why 2:29 am
You: it’s important 2:31 am
You: please 2:32 am
Edge Lord: fine 2:35 am
Percy slid his phone back into his pocket, hoping the signal didn’t alert any monsters nearby. He doubts they’d be able to find him though. At the speed they were going, as well as all the unnecessary turns and short cuts Bruce was making, he’d be surprised if any monster in general was able to follow. Hell hounds were fast, and their noses were just as good as a normal dog, but the overwhelming scent of mortal that encompassed Gotham helped hide Percy’s demigod scent well. It was one of the main reasons he didn’t get attacked so much, which he was so thankful for.
He told Bruce that he was going to tell him about his father, but he also was going to tell everyone everything because both his father and his life go hand in hand. Percy can’t tell Bruce about his father without telling him about the war, and he can’t tell him about the war without telling him about the prophecy. And because him and Jason have the same father, then he has to explain why Jason died. Everything had layers, it was all connected in a complicated mess that would be easier to explain all at once with everyone there.
Which means having Jason, Bruce, and Dick in the same room for a minimum of at least thirty minuets while he talks. Gods, he hopes no one starts shit.
“Who were you texting?” Bruce asks. They were on one of the back roads that led to one of the cave entrances, dark forest brush and canopies covering the road. How Bruce can see through it, even with his mega-bright headlights, Percy will never understand.
“Jason,” Percy answered, “If I’m going to talk about my father, Jason should be there too. And, I also asked for everyone else to be there too.”
“Why?” Bruce activated the entrance to open, revealing the tunnel that led to the cave.
He paused for a moment, watching the wall lights of the tunnel flash by before it opened into the cave proper. His domino was still in his hands, the glue that kept it secure was drying a cracking on his face and he wanted to scratch and peel it off. “I wanna tell you guys about some stuff other than my father, and I don’t wanna repeat myself five more times than I have to.”
Bruce nodded his head as he parked, their presence catching the attention of the others waiting for them. Stephanie and Tim had just returned from their own patrols, it seemed. All their gear was still attached to them, and they were still wearing their uniforms as well. Their hair a mess of knots and frizz from the wind, various bruises and scraps littered Tim’s arms and Steph was limping as she hobbled to the dressing rooms to change.
Cassandra and Dick were pouring over a case at the meeting table. There were a couple folders open, the documents inside spread out along one end of the surface while a cardboard box filled with other folders took residence on a nearby chair. Both of them wore comfortable civvies, sweatpants and t-shirts (with a ‘borrowed’ hoodie Cass ‘acquired’ from Percy’s closet,) and their dominoes to hide their identities. Because even though they weren’t scheduled for patrol, they still had to follow the ‘masks while in the cave’ rule. (But Percy and Alfred did not follow it since they didn’t leave the property anyways.)
“Woah, where did you go dressed like that?” Dick had done a double take when they pulled up, catching the other’s attention. They all had various levels of surprise, save for Alfred, at the sight of Percy in an all-black version of Tim’s Robin suit. To them, the idea of Percy being like them was a far-fetched and impossible thought. He had always been adamant about not joining them and preferring to stay in the cave, deciding to being Alfred’s assistant when patching them up.
“Needed some fresh air,” he said, taking one of the seats at the table.
Tim slid into one of the chairs beside him, mask removed and cape-less, and in a hushed voice, he asked “Are you?” Percy nodded. “You sure? Won’t you get in trouble?”
“I have to, Tim,” Percy said. “You know what’s coming and I can’t leave in the dark if something happens.”
“Is Jason…?”
“I asked him to come, and it sounded like he was, but everyone’s here,” Percy sighed, “So, I dunno. I hope he does, I don’t wanna repeat myself more than I have to.”
Tim nodded his head, undoing the bracers on his arms. “Okay, well, if you need me to tap in, I can, alright? Imma go change before you start.”
Percy twirled his pen in his hand as he waited for everyone to get situated. For them to shed the armor they wore and to give Jason a chance to arrive before he began. But Percy knows that his brother would rather stay as far away from Bruce as he could, their estranged relationship already on thin ice for reasons Percy didn’t want to know. He probably should know, but he decided to keep Bruce and his brother’s problems to themselves.
Slowly, the others began to fall in, sitting themselves into their unassigned assigned seats. Bruce at the head of the table with Dick and Cassandra on either side of him. Stephanie sat next to Cass, her leg propped up on the empty chair with an ice pack resting on her ankle. Percy was sitting at the opposite head with Tim next to him on his right, watching as Percy twirled riptide in his hands.
Percy took a deep breath. This was it. No going back now. He can’t manipulate the mist to change their minds, he can’t make them forget—this was the real deal.
The flash of a headlight against the cave wall caught their attention before the roar of the motor hit their ears. It startled the bats above them and Percy swore the ground rumbled as well, but maybe he did that by accident. He’s done that before at camp, in the restrooms and in the big house kitchen.
The group all seemed to tense at Jason’s arrival, his recent switch to anti-heroism instead of drug lord did little to calm the other’s nerves. They were glad that Jason was more amenable to working with them after he and Bruce warred it out for a bit. He lingered at the edges of his part of town and didn’t turn the others away immediately, so that was a step in the right direction. Though his status as a crime lord didn’t really bother Dick, Cass, or Percy. They still waltzed into that side of town like they owned it alongside the second Wayne son.
Jason did not want to be here but will endure for Percy.
Heavy boots marched up to the table and a loud scrape of the chair closest to Percy rang in the cave. It seemed like he, too, had just gotten off of his own patrol. He tossed his helmet on the table, echoing in the silence that had fallen on them when Jason arrived. But Jason didn’t pay any attention to Bruce or Dick, their stares boring hole into his back as Jason made his chair face Percy. “Alright. I’m here, what was so important that I had to abandon my after-patrol tacos?”
Percy sat straighter in his chair. “Okay, okay,” he ran his hand over his face, pushing back his fringe, “Okay, so, you know the stories and legends of the Greek gods, right? The deities the ancient Greeks worshiped to explain natural phenomenon and all that. And…you know how the gods in the stories came down to earth and had kids? Heracles, Achilles, Theseus. Well, the gods are real. They are real and they’re still having kids, they’ve never stopped, not really, and I…”
Percy looked at Jason. At his older brother whose mother was the same as his, whose father sired two powerful children.
“My biological father—Jason and I’s biological father—is Poseidon, god of the sea.” They sat there quiet, uncomfortably so, staring at Percy as if he was spewing nonsense. But Percy could tell that Cass believed him. She could tell by the heaviness on his shoulders as he spoke, the tiredness that rolled off him in small waves. Percy also knows that Jason knows he wasn’t lying, some kind of inherit knowledge and acceptance that he was also the son of a god. “And every summer, with the exception of this past Christmas, I have been going to a camp that is designed for demigods to train and learn how to survive.”
“When I was twelve, I didn’t get kidnapped—” This caught Bruce and Dick’s attention. “I had become a fugitive of the state because I was given a quest to find and retrieve the king of the gods’ missing lightning bolt to prevent a war between him and my father. I left the summer after that because I had to find the Golden fleece to save the magic border that was keeping the camp safe after it had been poisoned.
“Last Christmas, I had to rescue two demigods and find the goddess of the hunt who had gone missing while also putting Atlas back in his prison,” Percy kept going, waiting for their reaction when he finished. “This past summer, the summer that Jason came back, I was on a quest with one of my best friends in the Labyrinth to stop Kronos’s forces and to find the lost god of the wild.”
“Percy, wha—” Dick tried but there was no stopping Percy now that he started.
“And, should I have told you all this years ago? Yes, I probably should have considering how close I’ve gotten to dying in the past three years, but,” that left the room feeling heavier than it should, “Next year—on my sixteenth birthday, there is a prophecy that a child of the eldest gods will be the deciding factor of whether Olympus will survive the war against Kronos. I-…I am the prophecy child, and there is a chance that I might…not survive.”
Percy’s voice was near a whisper towards the end, a little shaky as wobbly as he spoke to keep the tears at bay. He doesn’t know why he was acting like this. Percy had come to terms with the fact that he was the child of the prophecy almost a year ago on Olympus when Thalia swore herself to the hunt. He knew that it was up to him, that he would be the one to lead the camp, assemble their meager forces, and train child soldiers against a titan in a year.
He accepted his fate, so why was he close to tears telling his family?
“The fuck to you mean ‘might not survive?’ What do you mean that our father is Poseidon?” Jason was the first to speak, leaning forwards on to the table. “You can’t be serious.”
“You asked me where I had gotten my white streak from, remember? And I told you it was ‘a long story?’” Percy looked at his brother. “I held up the sky for twenty minutes, I kept the sky from falling onto earth and destroying it, and it was the heaviest thing in the entire world. Stephanie once asked where I gotten this scar on my thumb was, I had gotten stung by a scorpion from the pits for Tartarus, whose venom can kill in sixty seconds. This scar on my stomach is from I fought the minotaur on my way to camp for the first time, I have one on my leg from where I got stung by the Chimera. This one if from a pack of hell hounds, this is from some empusai last summer—”
Percy lifted his shirt, exposing the burn scars that ran across his back and his left arm. It was nasty looking, but healed without any lasting damage. Though sometimes in the summer when the days are scorching hot, it felt like his back was on fire once again. Burning from the incomprehensively hot steam that erupted from the volcano. “This is from when St Helens blew up—when I blew up St Helens. If I was lying, Jason,” he looked at his brother a little coldly, offended that he was making this all up when he was marred by the ‘glory’ he had earned. “Then why do I have the scars to prove it.”
“Percy,” Bruce called his name. “What war?”
He sat down in his chair again, “For the past few years, the titan lord Kronos has been rising. He’s growing an army of monsters, minor gods, and other demigods to overthrow Olympus and set everything back to the stone age.”
“Why haven’t we heard anything about this?” Dick asked him. “Why haven’t you told us about this sooner, we could’ve helped.”
“We can’t help,” Tim answered. “Trust me, I’ve tried, but we can’t. We aren’t like Percy or Jason, we can’t see past the mist, we can’t enter camp, were just mortals.”
“You knew! How long have you known?” Stephanie pointed at Tim, who nodded unapologetically, “I’ve known for a year, since Percy came back last Christmas. But I’ve tried everything to see past the mist but I can’t.”
“Mist? What mist?” Cassandra looked to him.
Percy popped open riptide, the bronze sword expanding and folding over itself till it reached it’s full size. He saw Jason’s eyes widen at the sight. Standing in alarm when the Riptides’ point nearly poked him. What the fuck, he mouthed. “The mist is the magical veil that hides and protects the mortals from the mythological mess that is my life. To you, and Tim can confirm, this looks like a bat. A classic, wooden baseball bat—”
“What fuckin’ bat? That’s a goddamn sword!” Jason exclaimed. “Wait, you can’t see it? What the fuck, why can I see it?”
“Because you’re also a son of Poseidon, you’re a demigod like me,” Percy said.
“So why didn’t I go to that camp if I was like you? Why didn’t I train to fight monsters ‘n shit?”
“You weren’t meant to.”
Whatever Jason was feeling stopped, his whole body stopped, as if Percy had just pushed pause on the remote. “What?”
“The fates made it so you didn’t go, it-…your, y’know, was the price father paid.” Percy said, his head resting on his wrist as he said it. Tears once again welling up in his eyes. “Me getting the prophecy was the price father paid for breaking the oath, twice. We aren’t supposed to exist and this is the consequence.”
When Percy looked at Jason again, all the color drained from his face. His words a revelation that shook Jason’s whole worldview to its core. Eyes blown wide, hands in his hair pulling at the roots, as whatever thoughts he was having took over. “Jay,” Someone called but Percy was more worried at the sight of his brother, crumbling apart after realizing not only was his death was intentional but the gods themselves made it happen.
He stumbled backwards, his balance swaying for a second before Jason made eye contact with Percy. And there was a kind of betrayal that Percy could see in his brother’s eyes, the kind that ran hand-in-hand with jealousy. Percy remembers seeing it on the faces of other kids in camp when they learn that Percy has had more contact with their parent than they did, when the gods chose him over their own children.
Jason stumbled his way towards him back, ignoring the concerned calls from Dick and Cassandra. And in a few seconds Jason was speeding away, his helmet still facing Percy on the table.
He wanted to chase after Jason, to tell him everything their father told him this morning. That Poseidon does care for him, that he wanted to step in and save him. But Percy knows that telling him would only make it worse, that telling him that not only does Percy know who they were and who their father was, but that said father preferred Percy over him. That Percy was the child he was willing to speak with (even though that was far from the truth.)
“How do we stop Kronos?” Bruce finally asked, pulling off the cowl, and Percy could see the restrain that kept him rooted to his seat. Bruce wanted to go after Jason too, but he couldn’t, he had to focus on one thing at a time. Batman can multitask and can do many things all at once. But he wasn’t Batman right now. His words might’ve been the bat’s, but the unmasked, worried and pained look he held was his dad’s. It that of a father worried about sending his son, potentially sons head first into a war. One he didn’t even know existed till it might’ve been too late.
“If I knew how, I would tell you, but you guys can’t be a part of this.” Percy tore his eyes away from Jason’s retreating form. “I have already explained this to Tim, but this is a war you can’t fight. The monsters that are a part of that army, as well as the weapons and places they reside, are hidden from mortal minds.”
“So what, we just sit on the sidelines while you go and become a martyr? I’m not letting you do that, Percy,” Dick said.
“You can’t—help—Dick, none of you can, point blank. That’s final.” Percy spoke with a finality of a general. “I’m not telling you guys this to make you feel helpless or to give me pity or any dumb bullshit like that, I’m telling you so that if something happens next year, you won’t be caught off guard. So that if the news around New York is all fucked up, or if aunt Diana disappears for a bit, you’ll know why.”
“Diana knows?” Stephanie asked.
“She’s a daughter of Zeus, technically my cousin,” Percy says. “But the point is: I didn’t want to hide this from you guys anymore. I wanted to keep you guys out of this for as long as I could because monsters follow me everywhere, I’m not safe anywhere but camp, and I don’t know what I’d do with myself if you guys got hurt because of something from my world.”
“We can defend ourselves, we’re not helpless,” Cassandra protested.
“I know that, but you don’t—you can’t even comprehend all that I’m going up against.” He capped Riptide and in a blink it was back into a pen. “Just, please, trust me. I know what I’m doing and I don’t want you guys in anymore of a risk than you already are, but—” Percy looked at Bruce. “If I need help, be that mortal evac or medics for the wounded or even for collateral clean up, would you come?”
“Of course,” Dick answered for Bruce who seemed to be staring a hole into the table in front of him.
Alfred (where had he been this whole time?) cleared his throat and handed Stephanie a pair of crutches, who grumbled and groaned as she stood up from the chair. “I believe that is all we’ll be able to handle for today as it is getting late, even for you all. Now, all of you, upstairs, time to rest and we’ll further discuss this in the morning.”
One by one they left the cave, Tim hesitant to leave Percy’s side, especially after revealing everything, but Alfred’s pointed stare from the elevators made his feet move of their own accord. By the time the commotion died down again, only Percy and Bruce were left at the table. They faced each other, but neither’s gaze meet the other and neither of them spoke for a bit. He had hands clasped together and help up to his mouth. He did that when he was deep in thought, when he was trying to plan a head to keep them all safe.
Percy knows about the contingencies he was in place for the Justice League and all its members. Knows how to take them down and has access to the lead vault that held their collection of kryptonite for when Superman decided to try and become God. There were even plans on how to take each member of their family down, what steps that needed to be followed and who to get to help. And Percy knows he wasn’t special, he wasn’t excluded from those plans either, but he knows that they were made with the mental image of a regular human Percy. Of the kid who didn’t have powers and only bat-level training.
Now he was a threat, or, an even bigger one than before. Percy had the blood of a god running through his veins and that meant that he was far stronger that most of his family. He could blow up a mountain, summon hurricanes, move the earth. Percy could lift the cave water and manipulate it to his will whenever he wanted. He was a threat level Bruce had never encountered before and now…now he was scared to know how far he’d go to subdue Percy.
He glanced up when Bruce stood from his chair. It was hard to decipher what it was Bruce was thinking, the furrowed eyebrows and hardened stare was that same one he wore all the time. And while Percy was pretty good in understanding the man’s various looks and grunts, he didn’t know how to react when Bruce sat down in the chair Jason had once been in.
“I won’t lie,” Bruce said. “I do not like you leading a war, nor do I like that you kept a threat like this a secret for this long.” Percy deflated under his words. “And I understand that this was not your choice and you have to do whatever you need to do to stop them, but I need to know why it chose you of all the other demigods? Were there no one else this could have been given to?”
Percy shook his head. “At the same time a prophecy was given, the big three swore an oath on the Styx to not have any more kids. Mostly because of how powerful they were, it was why World War 2 happened after all.” He fidgeted with his fingers. “But Zeus and Poseidon didn’t keep to their promise, and because the Styx can’t punish gods, their kids took the penalty.”
Bruce had an arm resting on the table, his hand covering his mouth as he absorbed the information. “Jason was the first, and the oath influenced the events that took his life. Thalia was after him, a daughter of Zeus, and she died right before she entered the camp to save one of my friends and my enemy, but we didn’t know that he’d betray us all at the time.”
“So then by default, you were tasked with the prophecy?” Percy nodded.
“There are two other children of the big three,” He said. “Both children of Hades, but the older of the two died on a quest last Christmas and the other is barely eleven. I don’t want this to fall on him, he’s too little and he’s already been through so much.”
“I can’t lose you, son” Bruce stood and pulled Percy up to stand before him. “I’ve already lost your brother and I am grateful he was able to make it back home, despite all the hiccups that happened to get him here.”
He hadn’t noticed how tall he was in comparison to Bruce now, his dad always seemed to tower over him like used to when he was a kid, but there wasn’t much of a difference between them. A few inches separated them from seeing eye to eye and Percy didn’t want the day to come where they were the same height to come. He still wanted to be able to bury his face into his dad’s chest when he hugged him, he be able to be picked up and carried like a child, to be told that everything was going to be okay.
And while now, Percy could rest his chin on Bruce’s shoulders when they hugged, the arms around him were still warm and strong like they always had been. “Just…be careful,” Bruce held him tight.
“I’ll try, but I can’t promise that.”
“I know,” he said, brushing down the hairs at the back of his head. “Of all people, I know.”
*********************************************
I had to write this, like, twice because the first draft didn’t fit right in the flow of the story anymore.
The only qualm I have with this is Percy’s rant about his injuries, idk it both does and doesn’t feel like something he would do. Like he’d do it to prove that what he’s gone through exists but he hates talking about himself 🤷♀️
Hope you liked it!!!

Also, I know Lacy doesn't come into the series until HOO but I love her and needed a little sister character.
The early morning sun rises over Camp Half-Blood, showering the camp in a beautiful glow of red and oranges and bringing with it the warmth and promise of a new day. A new day of joy and fun for the campers, of bustling cabins and a day full of activities, but for [name] it brought a new day of pain and of heartache.
She watches the sunrise on the steps of her cabin, arms wrapped tightly around herself as if she could hold the broken pieces of her heart together by sheer force of will alone. The tears that had fallen earlier in the night had long since dried on her cheeks which were tinted red from the cold of the night. [Name] couldn’t remember when she had come out to stare at the stars, she didn’t know how long she had been sitting there in the cold, the blanket she had originally wrapped around her long forgotten and puddled at her back.
To be fair, she couldn’t remember most of the past two weeks, her mind and body lost to the memories and the heartache. Her emotions a constant battle of hatred and love for Luke Castellan, she knew she should hate him. That she should despise him
But she couldn’t, she couldn’t separate the sweet, considerate, kind Luke who had taken her under his wing, who showed her how to wield a sword to the point that she could now hold her own against a good chunk of the Ares cabin always reminding her after she was claimed that Aphrodite wasn’t just a Goddess of beauty and love but she was also Aphrodite Areia, a war Goddess in Sparta and Taras and Aphoride Urania in Kythira. He reminded her that she could be both beautiful and bold, sweet and strong. That there was strength within her even when she felt like there wasn’t.
She couldn’t separate that Luke from the one that had revealed himself as a traitor, the one who had used a child for a means to an end despite the risk to his life. The one who had stood in front of her and told her he loved her and then proceeded to rip her heart to shreds in the same sentence.
A warm hand on [name]’s shoulder jolts her from her reverie and as she looked up she meets the bleary blue eyes of her favourite sister Silena who gave her a sad smile before reaching and wrapping the blanked around her shoulders again.
“Gods [name], you’re freezing.” Silena’s voice is soft and warm, like a sweet honey tea as she speaks. She’s quiet, not wanting to wake the rest of the cabin. She sits beside [name] and places a gentle hand on her knee, rubbing gentle and comforting circles against the soft pyjama bottoms that [name] wore adding just enough pressure that it can be felt through the fabric.
Silena and [name] were always close, the two girls arrived only a few weeks apart and their bunks were right beside each other in the cabin. The two spent many nights huddled together on one of their beds gossiping and practicing their make-up skills and as they got older they spoke about their crushes, Silena revealing her feelings for Charlie Beckendorf from the Hephasteaus cabin and [name] revealing her feelings for Luke. She still remembered the words Silena spoke the night she revealed her crush, ‘be careful with that one love, he will do what it takes to survive’. Gods how she wished she had listened to her now.
Silena had been her rock the past two weeks, finding her after Luke left and holding her as cried into the night, praying with her almost every night to Aphrodite to make the pain go away and asking why she would allow her daughter to fall in love simply to have her heart ripped out, covering for her in camp activities on the days she couldn’t get out of bed, and reminding her of all the light that was left in her life despite the dark cloud that had shrouded her recently. She was there the night Luke left, her hand carding through [name]’s hair as she threw up from crying so much, whispering re-assuring words in ear and trying to comfort her.
Silena’s voice broke through the silence surrounding them, “Nightmares again?” [Name] nodded, tucking her chin into her chest, turning it slightly to meet her sisters gaze. The nightmares had started the night after Luke left, she hadn’t slept the night before instead she spent the night crying, wrapped up in Silena’s arm as she read her one of her trashy romance books. It was always the same thing, the argument with Luke.
· ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Luke paced back and forth, his footsteps were so heavy and he had been doing it so long that he was leaving treadmarks on the grounds, He was anxious, he hand curling in his hair as he muttered to himself a practiced speech to try and ger [name] on his side and to go with him. He had been pracisiting it for days, ever since Percy, Annabeth and Grover left for their quest because he knew that when they came back there was only one way for it to end.
“Luke!” [Name]’s voice cut through his thoughts, she sounded panicked and confused and the same was written on her face as Luke turned to face her. Her eyebrows were scrunched up and her lips were cornered down in a frown, and fuck Luke thought she still looked beautiful in the dim moonlight and starlight that was filtering through the canopy of trees.
Luke had asked her to meet him at their spot, a little secret section in the vast forest that was spread throughout the campt. Luke had found it in his first year here, it was his escape from the chaos of the Hermes cabin when he first arrived. Going from a young person on the run with only two friends and only his mother as family to a cabin through of brothers and unclaimed kids was a massive adjustment and one it took him a while to get used to. So, when things go overwhelming he would come to this spot and sit, sometimes he’d practice his sword skills, evident by the slash marks in the trees surrounding the area, other times he would sleep because it was the only place he could sleep.
When he started pursuing [name] romantically, he took her to his little slice of tranquility in the chaos of Camp Half-Blood. It was where he first kissed her and where he first told her he loved her. They had spent so many hours here just talking and holding each other that it became a sacred space just for their love and Luke would have sworn it was blessed by Aphrodite herself from how he felt when he was there [Name]. As if the space itself was meant just for their love to blossom and bloom.
“[Name]” Luke wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to his chest and burying his face in her neck taking her the scent of her bodywash mixed with the smell of the bonfire that lingered on her skin. His grip was tight, almost bruising as if she would disappear into smoke if he let her go. There was 2 ways this was going to end and Luke didn’t know if he could face the worst one, he had already lost Percy and Annabeth earlier that tonight when the confronted him about the master bolt, he didn’t want to lose her either.
“Luke, what's going on?” [Name]’s voice was soft and quiet, the only reason Luke heard it above the crickets was because his head was still buried in her neck. Reluctantly, Luke pulled back from her but his hand moved to rest gently against her waist, his hand slipping underneath her Camp Half-Blood shirt and rubbing gently against her skin.
“There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
Luke stepped back from her, taking the sword on his hip out of its sheath, [named] looked at him confused. The blade looked strange, darker than the usual celestial bronze the demi-gods used. She didn’t recognise it and a deep unsettling feeling formed in the deepest pit of her stomach.
“Luke, what is that?” Concern now laced her voice instead of confusion and Luke’s eyes flashed down to the blade and back up to [name]’s. “It was a gift”
“A gift? A gift from who?”
“Kronos.” The name struck fear in [name], it was like ice was being poured over her skin, goosebumps running down her arms and legs and shivers like lightning running down her spine. She stepped back from Luke, who’s eyes widened and his lips turned down.
“K-Kronos? Luke, what are you talking about?”
[Name]’s arms reached her her hairpin, it was a gift from her mother that Chrion gave her when she turned 13 to be gifted to a child that showed promise in sword fighting it was a relic fromher time as the Areia and Urania and it was enchanted to turn into a sword. [Name] knew she had no chance in a sword fight against Luke but she would be able to hold him off long enough to call for help, not that she wanted to fight Luke. She couldn’t imagine anything she wanted to do less, she could already feel her heart ripping in two from the confession.
She had been filled in, word moved fast in the camp especially with the Aphrodie and Apollo campers spreading every little bit of gossip like wildlife, someone had stolen the master bolt as a plan to bring Kronos back and to start a divine war. It had been a half-blood at the last solstice and suddenly things started to click into place. Luke was never too far from her with a hand on her waist or holding hand, at the very least he always had a finger linked with hers but during the solstice he disappeared. She thought he had just gone with the rest of the Hermes cabin to see their dad, despite how much she knew he disliked him but now it was obvious. He was the lightning thief. He had set up this whole thing and put Percy, Annabeth and Grover at risk.
As everything clicked for her, her heart pounded in her chest and it was so strong she thought it would tear right out of her chest. Anxiety spiked inside her, nausea rolling through her stomach and bile rising in her throat. But she pushed it down, pulling her pin out and gripping the hilt of her sword as it transformed with a white knuckle grip.
“You’re the lightning thief.” Taking another step back, [name] took a defensive stance and Luke’s eyes widened as he raised his hands in front of him, a motion indicating he wasn’t going to attack.
“[Name], let me explain.” His voice was frantic, the words tumbling out quickly as his brain raced, out of all the scenarios he had come up with for how this would go, his girlfriend pulling a sword on him was not one he considered. “The God’s don’t care about us.”
He took his sword and swiped it in the air, a shimmer shadow ripping open the air as if it was a portal, “Look at what happened to my mom, Hermes could have stopped him but he didn’t and look at all the unclaimed, at how many there are. What kind of parent does that? Just abandons their kids without a second thought to what would happen to them when they came off age and monsters start coming after them”
[Name] shook her head, “You know the God’s can’t interfer with our lives. Its forbidden by the fates.”
Anger washed over Lukes features, the calm and collected facade dropping as he shouts, “That means nothing! Do you know how many times I nearly died before I got to camp? How many monsters I had to fight? If Hermes loved me he would have kept me safe, he would have told me my fate when I asked! Imagine how many demi-gods have died not knowing what they are because the monsters got to them before they could get to camp, how many we lost”
He ran a hand through his hair, tugging on the curls gently and frustration, “And what about Thalia? Her own father wouldn’t even saver her, instead he turned her into a fucking tree as if that was the only solution”
“But Luke, Kronos is not the answer.”
Luke let out an angry growl and takes a step toward [name], who in turn took a step back.
“Have you even thought about what would happen if Kronos came back? It would be an all out war between the Olympians and the titans, last time there was a war on Olympus it triggered World War 2!”
She let’s out an exasperated sighed and lowers her sword slightly, “How many lives will be lost then? Mortal and demi-god? Of many of us will have to die for Kronos to rise to power?”
Luke takes another step forward, “Thatt’s why I want you with me.” His hands reached out, pleadingly, his sword lowering toward the ground to show he wasn’t going to hurt her. “If you’re with me, I can protect you and when Kronos wins I will have you by myside as my Queen. I love you and I want you by myside when we win.”
[Name] shook her head and tears started to fall from her face, “You know I can’t do that Luke. Kronos will bring nothing but chaos to this world and too many people will be lost because of him.”
Lukes eyes suddenly turned dark, the pleading tone of his voice dropped and the anger turned into nothingness, [name] didn’t know what was scarier. A dark, dry laugh came from Luke as he brought a hand up to his face, “You just don’t get it.”
Luke raised his sword, pointing the tip of the blade toward [name] and she readied herself for an attack, “Why would you get it? You’re Aphrodites favourite child. You never had to face a challenge in your life, your father brought you to the camp when you were nine he always knew who your mother was. You never had to run from monsters or live on the street to survive and then when you arrived in camp you were claimed within minutes and now you spend your days doing your make-up and your nails. All you have to worry about is looking pretty, it was a waste for me to teach you sword skills.”
A shuttering breath leaves [name]’s lips at his words, more tears flowing and her throat constricting around her words, “Luke you…you don’t mean that”
“You know, maybe you’re not Aphrodites favourite, If you were, she never would have had you fall in love with someone who doesn’t love you back.” His voice was harsh, the words cutting like a knife that had been lodged between [name]’s ribs, piercing her lung and making it so she can’t breath. She couldn’t even recognise Luke anymore, his eyes had gone dark and all emotion disappeared from his face as he stepped into the portal and vanished.
As the portal closed behind him, [name] felt her heart shatter into a million tiny pieces, as if it was made of glass and Luke took a sledgehammer to it. The pain that ripped through her chest felt like someone had ripped her chest open and was slowly pulling her shattered heart out piece by broken piece.
· ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Then it morphs, a single flame igniting where Luke stood that turned into a blazing infero consuming the whole forest and the cabins. She could hear the screams of the campers as the flames burned them, could feel their pain as if it was their own and she could do nothing to stop it. She wanted to stop it, wanted to save them but she couldn’t. When she looked down she could see vines wrapping around her legs, the thorns digging into her skin and drawing blood and all she could do was scream.
The first night if happened, she had woke up the rest of the cabin by screaming in her dreams, Silena had been the one to wake her while her cabin mates rushed to her side to make sure she was okay, Valentina was already at the front door of the cabin ready to go and wake Will if she had to get her sister medical attention. The only one who remained on her bed was Drew, who simply glared at her sister and flicked her hair. Drew was very specific with her beauty sleep and didn’t take well to having interrupted. Once they confirmed that [name] was okay, most of her siblings returned to bed but Silena stayed with [name]. They had gone for a walk around the camp, stopping at the dock and sitting with their feet in the water as they watched the stars. Silena didn’t push her to talk about it then, though [name] told her what the nightmare was the 3rd time it happened, and she didn’t push her to talk today.
Silena took a deep breath and placed her forehead against her sisters, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, [name] copied her. It was a habit the two had gotten into within their first few weeks of Camp Half-Blood when things got overwhelming, a simple way to say ‘i’m here and everything will be okay’.
[Name] finally unwrapped her arms from around herself and instead wrapped them around Silena as fresh tears sprang to her eyes, Silena returned the gesture and she rubbed up and down [name]’s back gently. “One day at a time,” Silena’s voice was gentle and soothing, it comforted [name], reverberating down her spine and warming her from the inside like hot chocolate on a cold winter day.
Unwrapping her arms from Silena, [name] nodded and wiped the tears from her eyes. “One…one day at a time.” Her voice was quiet, strained and gravelly from the crying. It was a small mantra Silena had started saying to her from the night of the first nightmare, a promise to both her and Silena that she would get through it one day at a time.
The rustling of sheets and the hush of voices pulls the two out of their moment, their siblings starting to wake as the rays from the sunrise turn golden and they prepare for the day. Lacy was the first to notice the pair were gone and she rushed out the front door, throwing herself on both girls to give them a hug. “Good morning!”
The childlike wonder and glee in her voice caused a smile to break out on both their faces, as their hands reached up to tickle the sides of the smaller girl who giggled and wiggled in their grasp. “[Name], can you paint my nails today?” [Name] nodded, standing up and taking her little sister's hands to walk back into the cabin. The sun illuminating them as they walk in, the rays of the sun warming her body and reminding her it was a new day, a new day to make new memories to replace the old ones and she just had to take it one day at a time.

"What do we do now?"
pairing: percy jackson x fem child of hecate!reader
words: 4,558
warnings: incident involving a car, being chased, that's all??
timeline: the lightning thief
a/n: this is kinda unedited because i didn't want to gatekeep it much longer. this took so long to post, and half of the chapter was sitting in my drive for like three months. it's okay if you hate me cause i hate me too. overall, I hope you guys enjoy it regardless.
prologue chapter ii chapter iii
Summer nights granted some rest to the stifling heat during the day. Vincent shrugs on a light sweater, his skin prickling at the chilly breeze tonight. The car engine rumbles, headlights on as he packs his twins suitcases in the trunk. He told them to pack heavy, which took them by surprise. They were bursting with questions but he dodged them all, not ready to explain himself just yet. For now, he leaves them to their assumptions of a possibly long road trip to a certain destination.
Florida. They 100% think they’re going to Florida and it was a cherry on top for the news Vincent was about to reveal. He wasn’t sure how they were going to take it, other than the predictable disappointment they weren't going to Disney,
Should he just market it as a regular summer camp? He considered it but he didn’t want to leave them in the dark. Honesty and finally revealing the secrets he’s held onto felt like the only way to do it.
“I call shotgun!” You shout. You knew well enough that claiming your dibs meant nothing to Atticus. As you expected, his footsteps quicken but he fails to outrun you. As your hand reaches the door handle first, Atticus whines something unintelligible. “Neither of you are sitting in the front,” Vincent declares sternly, wiping your look of victory straight off your face.
“What?” Your father doesn’t respond right away, shutting the truck closed. “Why?”
“Because then you’ll argue about it the whole way. Just sit in the back together.”
He doesn’t react to your scrunched face, making it clear this wasn’t up for negotiation. It was a little selfish but you and Atticus arguing wasn’t the only reason he wanted you to sit in the back. He read somewhere it’s easier to be confrontational when you aren’t looking at the person. To do what he needs to do tonight, he’ll take any advice; even if it’s from Psychology Daily. “No fair,” you grumble as you slide into the backseat, Atticus moves in behind you with his own teasing smile.
Vincent settles in the driver's seat and glances in the rearview to make sure your seatbelts on. “Alright kids,” he begins, switching the gear shift. The pedal feels heavy under his feet, and his knuckles tighten around the wheel. “Here we go.” “Where are we going, actually?” Atticus asks, sitting up in his seat. “You haven’t said.” “Somewhere,” Vincent answers vaguely. You and Atticus exchange a look, the corners of your lips turned upwards. It must be a surprise, and surprises are always good, you concluded. There couldn’t be any other reason for his ambiguity.
“How long until we get ‘Somewhere’?” “About 2 hours.”
That wasn’t the answer you were expecting. Okay, so definitely not Disney. Little bit of a bummer but anywhere you go with your dad is always fun.
Atticus meets your gaze, your brains recalculating every place you’ve been to that might take that long.
“Are we going to Rhode Island again?” You guessed.
“No.” “Atlantic City?” Atticus chimes in. “No.” “Are we leaving the state?” “No.”
You and Atticus sit back in your seats in defeat, pondering in silence. Vincent gulps hard. You two were never patient for answers. Or patient for really anything. His vision falters from the road, the silence in the car is becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
The radio.
Suddenly reminded of the tool's existence, his fingers, almost frantic, feel around for the button. He doesn’t care what he ends up listening to as long as something plays. Turning the dial, he skims through stations and settles on the first one that runs clear of static.
NSYNC’s “Bye, Bye, Bye” plays through the speakers and it rips through your train of thought. Atticus catches you side eyeing him with a wicked grin. Your brother was never one for pop songs and his instant dread brought you satisfaction.
“Don't want to be a fool for you. Just another player in your game for two!” You sing, scooting closer to the boy despite Atticus’s physical attempts to keep the distance.
“Stop!”
You sit back in your seat, quiet for a moment. Seemingly done with your torment, your brother settles down. The moment he turns to look out the window, your mischievous smirk returns. “Might sound crazy but it ain't no lie! Baby, BYE BYE BYE!” “STOP!”
“Y/n, please,” Vincent groans and you press your lips together hard in an effort not to laugh.
“Sorry,” you apologize to your dad and abide by his wishes only.
Checking in the rear view mirror, Vincent catches you quietly whispering the words to the pop songs that play back to back and Atticus occupied on his game boy. Unaware of how long it will take before you are interrogating him again, he takes the time to plan out what he was going to say. Soon, he found out no matter how he worded it, he knew he’d sound insane.
Your mother is a goddess and I’m taking you to a special camp with other demigods.
That’s ridiculous…
Vincent considers perhaps it wouldn’t be so farfetched. You and Atticus are aware you have abilities other kids don’t. Hearing and seeing spirits was one, the disastrous consequences of your anger was another. Cordelia ruled it out to be a sort of telekinesis. Especially after realizing, you and Atticus had a habit of stealing cookies from the table by willing them to fly towards you.
Plenty of times Vincent told you not to use your powers outside of home and to not tell people about the spirits you vividly have encounters with.
Still, it all felt too much. Having abilities and being told you’re half god was on very different ends of the supernatural spectrum.
The signs greeting him to Long Island came earlier than he expected. Vincent knew he had to tell them, rip the bandaid now. He can reveal the news, stop at a gas station to fill the tank and leave them alone to digest everything. The method of telling them they’re going to a summer camp and leaving them to figure everything out felt like the easiest option but it didn’t feel right. The twins deserved to hear the news from their father and no one else. Before he can back out, he turns the dial for the radio volume.
“I have to talk to you guys about something.” Vincent fights the quiver in his throat, his eyes set on the road.
“Are we in trouble?” Atticus asks.
“No, you’re not in trouble. I just have a few things to tell you.”
Vincent shifts in his seat from the silence, his twins waiting for him to continue. “For a long time, you both have had questions about who your mother is.”
If your father didn’t have your full attention a second ago, he definitely had it now. Your mom, were you finally going to meet her? The day you exchange your first words with her, suddenly it felt closer than you thought.
Vincent sighs shakily. “Grandma always tells you that your gifts are because of her.” “She was a witch like grandma. A powerful one,” you chime in, and Vincent nods slowly. “Your mother isn’t just a witch though, She…”
Atticus exchanges a look with you before his eyes return to the side of your father’s face.
“She is a goddess.”
That was the last thing you expected. The silence that followed was deafening. Vincent felt silly, as if he was telling a lie.
“Dad, are you okay?” Atticus asks half jokingly. Surely, your father was playing a prank on you. Your mother being a goddess? Impossible.
“You're playing a prank on us,” you accuse and your father shakes his head before you can finish.
“I am not joking. This is serious.”
Slowly, you sit back in your seat. The tone of your father, the sternness of his face didn’t look like he was kidding. It confused you even more.
“I’m taking you two to a summer camp where there are kids like you. They have powers, and godly parents and you’ll learn everything you need to know as demigods.” “Who’s our mother?” Vincent shifts in his seat, his eyes flickering at the rear view and his heart sinks when they immediately meet yours. At times, he catches a glimpse of your mother in your face. Every time he catches it, it strikes too many emotions in his chest. Grief, pride, longing, were only a few he could name. Right now, it makes him nervous.
“Lady Hecate.”
“How is this possible?” You whisper to yourself but loud enough to be heard. Vincent swallows hard but it does nothing to ease the rock in his throat. “When you study to be a professor, you have to write a really long presentation on an original concept in your major.”
His fingers adjust on the wheel. “I was having a hard time coming up with a topic. So much so, I had considered leaving school. Grandma knew and she prayed to Hecate as her patron to help me. I didn’t know it was her at the time but at a presentation I was doing for an academic convention, I had seen her in the crowd and I fell in love with her.”
Your father took a pause. It was as if it was too painful to recall the memory. Plenty of times you’ve heard this story but never from his mouth. It was always told from a third person, that person being your grandmother. Clearly, she failed to mention the goddess part.
“She introduced herself to me as Florence. She told me she transferred from another school and was my new colleague. We studied together and we became very close friends. She helped me a lot and led me to my dissertation topic. Once I had everything ready to put together, she left. Her errand was complete.
I didn’t know she was going to leave. The night I began working on the project, it was halloween. Grandma heard a knock on the door and she found you two in golden cradles at the doorstep. Your mother had left you two with me as a gift, to commemorate the love we had for each other. She didn’t want to leave but she couldn’t stay. There are rules the gods have to obey when it comes to humans, one of them was she could not raise you like a normal mother.” Dad got dumped badly.
Hearing the story from him for the first time left you dumbstruck. Years of wondering why your father avoids talking about your mother suddenly made sense. Now every assumption you made about her, you had to reformulate. A goddess mother? That wasn’t even on your list of possibilities.
Your mouth opens to say something but your father cuts in. “It is a lot to process, I know. It seems unbelievable but this is very serious. Because of who your mother is, you guys are different from other people. You have powers and bad things like monsters and entities gravitate towards you. Remember how Grandma always has to cleanse the house because you two get nightmares or scary things happen?” He catches your nods through the rear view. “The reason that happens is because you two are demigods. Your auras and scents are different from regular mortals.”
Atticus nods his head slowly. “This feels like I’m in a superhero movie.”
Your brother's awestruck expression makes your father chuckle. It felt nice; the comedic timing allowed Vincent to lower his tense shoulders, just a bit. “You two remember the stories I used to read to you at bedtime, right?”
“The ones about Hercules, and Jason?” “And Odysseus, Achilles too?”
“Yes. From those stories, you know being a demigod is a hard life but I know you guys are strong. I know that you two will be okay and do extraordinary things. At this camp, you will be safe and you’ll train to use your powers and abilities. I wanted to spend one last summer with you but grandma and I decided it was time for you to go there.”
“It’s just for the summer, right?” You ask nervously.
“Yes, only for the summer. I know Grandma will protest but if you wish for me to pick you guys up for any reason, I will.” Vincent smiles sadly at you before his focus returns to the road and he pulls into a gas station right off the exit. “I am going to stop here for gas and then we’re going straight there. Any snacks?” “Oreos!” Atticus jumps in and a small smile spreads across your face. “I want Oreos too.” “Copycat.” “Shut up.”
A huff of laughter leaves your father. “Oreos, got it,” he says and the moment he closes the car door behind him, you and Atticus whip your gazes at each other. “Do you think it’s true? Or is dad losing it?” Atticus’s eyes are filled with every emotion under the sun. He was excited but also nervous. Concerned but ready for the reality he was about to accept.
“I don’t know. It sounds crazy but he looked serious.” Atticus nods in agreement. He never pegged his dad to be an actor so he couldn’t even begin to deny what he said was untrue.
“That’s so cool!” Atticus shouts, his voice too loud for the confined space you’re in.
“It is pretty cool, isn’t it?” The laugh that bubbles in your throat is cut off by a gasp. Unexpectedly, you slide toward him, the buckle of the seat belt digging in your hip.“What?” you mutter to yourself, a sense of urgency filling your chest as Atticus yelps. “A cyclops!”
“Cyclops?” You quickly follow your brother's gaze and sure enough, there it was. A tall statue beams over the window on your side, shaking the car frantically and roaring in determination. Frozen in your spot, you blink a few times, your brain barely processing the monster you’ve only heard about in stories.
You simply watched, leaving your brother frantically trying to find a way out of the situation. One eye catches your gaze after its attempts at shaking you out of the car fail. There’s a furrow of a single eyebrow, a pause of thought and you jerk back hard as its soccer ball size fist starts banging on the window.
You find some instinct to slide away, watching the cracks slowly spread like spiderwebs. Then suddenly, there is a loud crash of glass followed by a muffled call of your name under a deafening roar. Atticus grabs you by your collar, hauling you out from the other side of the car like a limp doll. Barely out of your trance, your shaky legs move to keep up with your brother.
There aren’t many options where you could go, running down the massive road would leave you to deal with a monster and cars. Desperate to lose the monster, you decide the hill into the woods was your best option.
“The woods,” you choke out through your panting and Atticus doesn’t argue, running straight ahead with a grip on your hand so tight your fingers are turning white.
“ATTICUS? Y/N!” Goosebumps riddle your body, your ears tingling at the sound of your father’s voice. The desperation, the scratch of his yell made your eyes prickle with grief. You didn’t dare look back, refusing to see the look on his face. It won’t hurt him, you rationalized. It’s trying to hurt us because of our scent.
As much as you wanted to make a u-turn straight to your father, the thumping footsteps of the cyclops were too close. You knew you had to get away first, then you can worry about making your way back to your dad.
Atticus leaps over a log, twists and turns through trees. As much as you wanted to free your hand from his violent grip, you didn’t want to risk losing him. Crashes of thin trees being mowed down by the monster and its frustrated growls start to sound faint in the distance.
Your heavy pants made your lungs hurt and just as you thought you were out of any line of danger, a boulder speeds right past you and crashes into the trees ahead.
Atticus gasps, his other hand patting the pocket of his jeans, “We’re not going to lose him,” he says, his tone frantic. “He’ll knock us down before we’re able to.”
Before you can ask what you should do, Atticus makes a sharp turn to the right treading off course. “If we can get far enough, I can try to blind him,” he says and you furrow your eyebrows. “With what?” Your question is cut off by the desperate hitching of your breath. Atticus doesn’t say anything, turning and flashing a quick smile at you which is the last thing you expected. He raises his slingshot in the air and you scoff. “Dad told you not to bring it!” “Well, it’s a good thing I did anyway. C’mon!” Atticus picks up his speed and you sigh in relief as you come upon a flat patch of land with rocks big enough to hide behind.
Taking cover behind a boulder, the cyclops missed the sight of you by a second. His shout of anger echoes through the stillness as he realizes he’s lost the two of you but in his persistence he sniffs around, trying to catch the familiar demi-god scent once again.
This doesn’t even feel real, you think to yourself, fully expecting to be woken up by your alarm clock for school any minute now. Beside you, Atticus ruffles the ground, trying to find a rock big enough to cause damage but not big enough to compromise the distance he needs.
“Whatever rock you’re looking for, you need to find it now,” you whisper frantically as the monster’s vision snaps in your direction. A gasp leaves your lips, back pressed against the boulder in panic and as you turn to your brother, he practically shoves a baseball size stone in your face. He beams proudly and hops up into view. “Alright, big guy,” he shouts.
Your eyes widen. “What are you-?” “Come at me!” “By the gods, you better not miss,” you whisper sharply and he chuckles in response. Cringing at the sound of the cyclops stomping towards you, there is a stretch of Atticus’s sling. Strategically, he adjusts his direction, one eye in focus as he aims right for the monster’s eye. “Get ready to run,” Atticus warns, barely giving you time as he gages on the right moment and releases his hold on the sling. There’s a quick rush of air and a cry of agony follows afterwards. “NOW!”
You hop up, grasping your brother’s hand once again. “Did you-?” “Hell yeah, I did,” Atticus shouts proudly and an excited cackle leaves his lips. You were amazed at Atticus’s enthusiasm at this moment. You were scared out of your mind but to Atticus, this was a video game in real time.
It didn’t take long for the two of you to lose the enraged monster behind. Blindly, it throws whatever he can get his hands hoping to knock one of you down but alas, he was unsuccessful. For a while, you hear his raging and as the sounds grew distant, you eventually heard nothing but the cicadas.
“What do we do now?” You ask, Atticus perched on a rock to keep his sights on the vast forest. You’ve been running for so long, the possibility of finding the road again without running into something else would be slim.
“I don’t know.” His voice is filled with fatigue and shaky with anxiety. Atticus only had a slingshot, not a compass; it wasn’t even a question if the two of you were lost. Sitting on the dirt, you sigh softly trying to think of a plan.
You could keep walking until you find a road. At some point, you and Atticus would stumble upon something but who knows how long that would take you and how many monsters will be in your path. Shifting in your seat, you do the only thing you could do comfortably in this moment.
Pray.
Lady Hecate is your mother, after all. Cordelia was always adamant she would be there for you whenever you needed her.
“Hekate, dark mother, keeper of the keys to the door between worlds; Hekate, lovely dame of earthly, watery and celestial frame; Mighty Hekate, mother of all witches, please assist my brother and I back to safety. Help us find dad or this camp we’re supposed to go to, please. Hear my voice, know my gratitude, Hail Hekate.” The prayer leaves you pleadingly and your brother’s fingers interlaced with yours as he repeats the prayer himself.
For a second, there was nothing. You looked up for a sign, something different from the chirps of insects and the sounds of the wind rustling in the trees. As time passed, you begged in your mind for help or even a strike of intuition. Just as you were inching toward defeat, there’s a snap of a twig and a white iridescent glow appears further ahead.
Immediately, you stand up but Atticus grabs on your calf. “It could be something dangerous,” he points out and you frown.
“Or it could help us.”
The feeling in your gut was telling you it was from your mother. Slowly, you inch closer, the dark outline amongst the iridescent glow becoming more pronounced. Atticus hovers behind you, ready to take off if this thing charges at you but soon he also notices a snout and the proud statue of a well trained dog.
The both of you jump in surprise when it barks, but it didn’t feel malicious. Quickly, the hound turns on its heels and gallops away. At first, you didn’t move but when it halted and stared, you realized you should follow. “Should we go?” “It’s Hecate’s sacred animal, it has to be safe,” you say, your legs taking you toward it. There’s a short huff before the hound continues its way through the forest and you and Atticus follow as best as you can while also keeping your eye out for any more monsters.
“Where do you think it’s taking us?” Atticus whispers.
“Probably to the camp. I don’t think this is the direction we came from.”
Your brother nods, his hand becoming sweaty in your grasp despite the cool air. The nervousness coming off of him was adding to your own feelings, suffocating you.
“You know, what you did back there was really cool.” At the compliment you can feel Atticus’s anxiety begin to lessen. A small smile forms on your lips as he gleams with pride. “All those times of me flinging golf balls at your forehead paid off, didn’t it?” Atticus chuckles at your side eye. “I guess some good came out of you tormenting me,” you mutter in playful defeat.
Before Atticus could tease you anymore, the hound ahead of you begins to growl. At first, you thought it was toward you but as you look further into the trees, you catch the hoard of cyclops coming from the right side of the forest. “You two blinded my brother?!”
The gravel in his voice makes goosebumps form all over your skin. Atticus slowly moves towards the dog and he chuckles nervously. “No, I think you have the wrong people.” “I don’t think I do,” the cyclops responds and suddenly, he and his four other friends are charging at you, yelling threats that definitely aren’t empty. A yelp leaves your lips, you and Atticus hauling yourselves along the trees once again.
“Um, could you slow down!” You shout at the dog much too far ahead and you swear it rolled its eyes and mumbled something when it halted. You ignore the sass coming from the canine, just happy it waited for you and your brother before continuing its route. Atticus tries his best to sling over rocks and twigs while he was far enough to stop but it did nothing but anger the cyclops.
With quick thinking, your hand reaches out, your sights focused on a decent size log ahead. You’ve made plenty of things fly with your will alone, a log couldn’t be much different. As the log ascends from the ground quickly, you visualize it shooting back and slamming into the gut of the leader. You didn’t think it would work but then you heard a groan and a thump as if someone fell.
“Nice!” Atticus chuckles before the hound barks frantically ahead. Returning your sights forward, you notice a post and a giant sign over an archway reading: CAMP HALF-BLOOD. “We’re almost there!” You shout in relief before you scream at the arrow passing right by your face.
☆’.・.・:★:・.・.’☆
“ALERT! Potential threat sighted!” Annabeth calls, binoculars pressed on her face. She squints, a dog and two kids her age running full force in the direction of the gates but that didn't interest her. Her main concern was the gang of cyclops’ hot on your heels.
“CYCLOPS’ APPROACHING! BE READY TO ATTACK!”
Annabeth hears the rustling of her postmates and bow's stretching as the archers line up beside her. Amongst the growing seriousness of the situation, she suddenly hears a giggle. The sound is so misplaced, Annabeth furrows her eyebrows. Removing the binoculars from her face, she finds Silena nudging Beckendorf's shoulder playfully. “Beckendorf, Silena, stop flirting!” Annabeth commands and Silena finds only amusement at the younger girl's orders.
As unserious as the twelve year old looked, Silena and Beckdenorf quickly straightened their postures, “Yes ma’am!” They shout and turn to the scene ahead right as the cyclops roared. “FIRE!” Annabeth shouts and just like that there’s a whizz of arrows flying right into the cyclops with great accuracy. One by one, the cyclops fell to the ground like flies. A smirk of satisfaction appears on Annabeth’s lips, as her archers cheer in success.
☆’.・.・:★:・.・.’☆
“Do you think they’ll shoot at us too?” Atticus asks nervously and you look up at the small people perched up on the post, waiting expectantly for your arrival to the gates.
“I hope not,” you pant, hand coming to your chest as if it would help relieve the burn. Once the monsters were taken down, the hound began to slow down and you and Atticus followed. You were grateful the chase was over but your destination made you nervous.
“HEY!” A girl’s call catches your attention. She stands at the foot of the entrance, her hand waving around wide for you to see. Unsure if it was safe, you double checked with the hound but it was gone. His errand was done, you realize. Hesitantly, you wave back, following Atticus as he jogs over to the girl. A boy appears on her side, much bigger in stature and much more intimidating-looking but the warm look on his face tells you you shouldn’t be scared.
With a welcoming smile, the girl with pretty blue eyes and long dark hair cascading over her shoulders nods proudly.
“Welcome to Camp Half-Blood. You made it.”

mdni. 18+ content. another installment of this au.
college!luke castellan doesn’t care about hickies.
of course, his frat brothers tease them relentlessly, but he does nothing to rebate the suggestions from most that they were from you. it wasn’t any secret that you and him had been fucking—casually, of course, he didn’t have time for relationships—for some time now, but it always left you a little jarred when he would be so open to the display of red bites left splayed on his neck.
“won’t they see?” you ask a bit dumbly after luke asks you to mark him through passionate kisses. rudely—your friends thought—he’d pulled you away from the dining hall with no explanation other than ‘needing you’.
“what?” he says, slightly breathless from kissing. the question had taken him aback because, had he not made it clear by now?
“won’t your friends see the… you know?” the sheepish tone in your voice elicits a deep chuckle from luke before he presses his lips against your neck, not hard enough to create hickies just yet, but not exactly gently either. “you want the truth, princess?” your eyebrows furrow a little dumbly but you nod with curiosity. “i think you love seeing ‘em on me, and you love when people know they’re from you,” he says. “and you know i don’t care if anyone sees. i know you know me better than that, don’t you, baby?” luke’s timbre is so low, so arousing and you can hardly keep the needy whimper in.
you just nod, no more doubt within you as you trail kisses down his scar, to his jaw, down to his neck and collarbone. the satisfied groans you elicit from him as you find that spot on his throat sends you in a daze almost immediately. his lips catch yours again before he flips the both of you over, settling on his knees in front of you.
luke’s mouth is everywhere, nibbing at the surface of your skin, laving his tongue over the fresh ache. his strong hands pulling your shorts and panties down in one go. “gonna mark you here,” he says, catching the plush flesh of your inner thigh between his teeth, sucking on the area and conjuring a livid stain on your skin.
he forges more and more red marks onto your skin before he finally puts his mouth on your neediest place. luke’s suctions his lips around your clit, forcing a choked gasp from you and a hand flying down onto his head. he groans against you as your back arches and your fingers tangle in his hair, tightening and tugging. he works hard, like he’s being paid to eat you out, but really, he knows he would pay to die between your thighs.
just as luke’s tongue pushes it’s way into your sopping hole, you feel that blissfully hot, white, sensation swim over and past you. your thighs are most likely suffocating luke, but he doesn’t seem to mind, or even notice really.
his tongue fucks you through your orgasm, and upon coming down from your high, luke’s head rises from your middle.
“we’re still casual, though?”

Apples
Pairing: Luke Castellan x Reader
Summary: You tossed an apple to Luke without knowing the meaning of it in Greek Mythology (fluff, friends to lovers, happy ending)
Note: Just wanted to write something lighthearted and funny. Since I saw somewhere that apparently throwing an apple at someone means something in Greek Mythology, thought I should use it as a prompt.
Word count: 3.1k
You have been at Camp Half-Blood for a year. Within that time, you’ve been claimed by your Godly parent, learned so many things about Greek mythology, and, best of all, made friends who understood exactly what you were going through and all whom you loved dearly.
One of them was Luke Castellan. You two were relatively close friends, though you swore he treated you differently than he would with others at camp. But you didn’t want to be foolish and assumed it was something. That didn’t mean you don’t treat him differently than you would with other campers though. You have always had a soft spot for Luke in your heart. You weren’t exactly sure when it happened, but you found yourself thinking about him too often.
“Anyway, Percy. Don’t worry too much, honestly. We all have been through what you’re currently going through. You’ll fit right in, yeah?” the younger boy offered you a lope-sided smile as you patted his back and stood up.
“Alright, boys, I have to go now, but I’ll see you later,” you said before grabbing your plate, which would have been empty if it wasn’t for the apple you hadn’t eaten. The rest of the table - which included Chris, Luke, and Percy - said their goodbyes before chattering again as you walked away. However, you halted as you changed your mind about wasting the apple.
You turned back to look at the group before calling out, “Hey, Castellan.” However, you were slightly caught off guard to see Luke already having his eyes on you.
Luke swore that you have always had him mesmerized. If he even heard a whisper of your voice, his head would immediately try to locate you. To make matters worse, Chris even started calling Luke a “lost puppy” when he realized how your departure would always leave Luke like one.
“Catch,” you tossed your apple at Luke.
Multiple heads turned in your direction as the red apple hurled through the air before landing neatly in Luke’s hands. The Hermes cabin counselor had his eyes glued onto the fruit that was in his palms. You almost halted in your steps from his and other camper’s reactions. Some started whispering to their friends, pointing at you. You even heard one gasp. But you ignored them, finding it strange that people cared so much about such a small interaction.
“You can have it. I don’t think I’ll have time to eat it,” with that, you vanished from the scene, leaving at least half of the camp agape, including Luke and your friends.
Then, the strangest of things happened for the next few days. It started with Luke already stationed outside when you exited your cabin the morning after. He cheekily presented you with one singular flower in his hand, and you took it with playful words, “Ooh, what did I do to deserve this special treatment today?”
“Nothing, just thought I should show how much I appreciate you,” Luke put his arm over your shoulder as the two of you made your way to the dining pavilion. You could feel your cheeks flushing at his action. He has never done this before. With his arms around you, the sides of your bodies brushed as the two of you walked. You noticed almost immediately how every other person would have their eyes on the two of you. But you ignored the attention and focused on Luke instead.
The sweet actions didn’t stop at flowers or more physical touches. For the next three days, Luke was stuck to your hip. So it was quite strange that you have not spotted the Hermes cabin counselor in the last two hours. Hence why you were spending some time with Clarisse, another close friend of yours. However, you felt an arm swinging around your shoulders, and you instantly recognized who it was from the familiar touch.
“Hey, Clarisse, can I borrow Y/N real quick?” Luke asked, quickly muttering a “thank you” when your friend nodded. “So, I have something to give you…” your face must have shown how surprised you were because he chuckled at your reaction. However, when the boy pulled his gift out from his cargo pocket, your mouth fell slightly agape at the reveal.
Luke must have misinterpreted your reaction because he started nervously rambling, his voice a few octaves higher, “It’s not much, but honestly, this is all I can do with my arts and crafts skills. I’m just not really good with that y-”
“It’s perfect, Luke. Thank you so much!” you gave him a brief hug, but it was enough to stun him for a second. Luke felt this urgent sense of craving from how your bodies fit for a second. It’s as if he was made to hold you. He almost pulled you back into another hug but had to force himself to regain composure. Nevertheless, that didn’t last long because his eyes softened again at the sight of you trying on the bracelet he made. The beads in your favorite color, crafted with care, wrapped around your wrist perfectly, and you wonder how he knew just the right size to make it.
The truth was Luke had to ask Clarisse to steal one of your bracelets just so he could make a bracelet of the correct size. But you didn't need to know that, though - according to him.
The next night, there was a social gathering near the campfire. Luke reapproached the location with a hoodie in hand. Earlier, Luke excused himself to fetch the clothing item that was now in his hand that was meant for you. However, his brows scrunched as he spotted another figure next to you, sitting in the spot that he previously occupied. You were laughing at something they said. The way your laugh echoed in his head usually sounded like a lullaby or the enchanting voice of a siren. But right now, the idea that someone else elicited the same laugh made him want to hurl behind the bush he was standing next to.
Little did he know you were zoning out from whatever the other boy was speaking about, thus the fake laugh to not blow your cover. You were distracted just thinking about Luke and everything he has done so far - offering his portion of dessert to you because he knew it was your favorite; him winning Capture the Flag and ignoring everybody else to go hug you first, then having his eyes on you and only you afterwards; sneaking out of camp to go buy the items you mentioned once that you wish you had at camp and so on.
Your mind quickly reminded you that the boy sitting next to you was still talking to you. However, when you snapped out of your thoughts again, you realized now he was looking at you expectantly and you scrambled your mind for a reply.
Thank Gods Luke plopped down on your other side, saving you from having to admit to the other boy that you were not listening to him. “Hey, you’re back,” you commented. Luke’s arm automatically threw itself around your shoulder and tugged you to him slightly. Your body leaned on the Hermes cabin counselor ever so naturally at this before you turned to him. Luke quickly set his clothing on your lap, and you stared at it questioningly.
“You’re cold, right?”
“Oh, yeah,” your cheeks flushed again at how he knew without you telling him. You shivered maybe once or twice earlier due to the night air lowering the temperature, but it was so brief you were sure nobody had noticed. As you put on the hoodie, Luke averted his gaze from you to the guy on your other side.
The Hermes cabin counselor arched one of his eyebrows in a challenging manner. Almost immediately, his ‘opponent’ slightly raised both of his hands. Luke internally snickered at the quick motion of surrender.
“My bad, man,” you heard the other boy say as you managed to put your head through the clothing item and pull it down. Luke was physically preening at the other boy’s words and departure. Meanwhile, you were distracted by how you were engulfed by the smell of Luke from his hoodie. Your height difference also meant you were swimming in it, but it felt so comfortable.
“What was that?” you asked once the other boy was gone.
“Nothing…” even the most oblivious person could see that Luke was lying. But, once again, you did not question his actions and carried on with the gathering. You could also feel other campers staring at the two of you, but you ignored that as well.
That night - like every other night since four days ago - he walked you back to your cabin. You were honestly completely smitten by the attention he has given you, not that you would admit that to him. You were still not sure what caused the change, but you were still elated about it. Maybe he did return your feelings? Either way, everything felt perfect lately, and you went to sleep that night feeling like the stars aligned for you.
“I guess congratulations are in order?” Percy spoke up as you lined up for food the following day.
“What do you mean?” you asked, taking the plate of food. Today’s meal consisted of mac n’ cheese, steak, and an apple.
“You’re engaged?” you almost dropped your plate at that and gave the son of Poseidon a questioning look. “You proposed to Luke like a week ago?”
“What? When?”
“When you threw him the apple? That is considered a marriage proposal.”
“Since when?”
“Uh, in Ancient Greek culture, it’s considered a marriage proposal if a man throws an apple at a lady. But, I mean, it’s the 21st century, so I guess it can work both ways.” Percy finally took a plate of food for himself. “And if the recipient catches it, it’s considered an acceptance.”
“You saw this and knew this whole time without telling me?!?”
“I thought you knew! And you two seem so smitten already, so I thought you did it on purpose.”
“Percy, no! Is this a well-known thing? Do you think other people who saw it too thought I proposed to Luke as well?” Seeing Percy’s look and how he was fumbling with his words, you quickly requested, “Actually, no, don’t answer that.”
The two of you walked over to Luke and Chris with plates in hand. You picked up the apple on your plate and placed it on the table.
“Luke, we need to talk,” You deliberately placed the fruit there, hoping the boy would get a hint about the topic you wanted to discuss. Luke’s eyes flicked from the fruit to you. Though the hint of amusement in his eyes and a sheepish grin made you realize he knew all along. Luke stood up and followed you out of sight and hearing distance from other campers whose eyes were trailing after the two of you.
“You knew what it meant, and you didn’t tell me?” You broke the silence as soon as you two were far away enough.
“Listen, I appreciate your proposal. But, it’s a little bit fast, don’t you think?” Luke teased, and you instantly hit his arm at that, causing the boy to flinch slightly, but the smile on his face told you he was anything but mad at your action.
“But you caught it. So, technically, you said yes,” you rebutted, sighing as you rubbed your face, “My Gods, does everybody at camp think we’re engaged? Wait, is this a substitute for an engagement ring? Did you give this to me because of that?” you pointed to the bracelet Luke gave you, your mind now understanding Clarisse’s teasing and her implications. You could see the way Luke was stifling a laugh. He settled with saying something else when he saw the pure panic on your face.
“Sweetheart, calm down.” the nickname successfully silenced you. You hated how it made you feel, but you would not mind hearing that daily. “No, it’s not an engagement ring.”
“Oh, so were you doing all of these romantic gestures and gifts on purpose to make fun of me and the situation?” you asked, though it was more with a lighthearted tone than one of temper. However, something shifted because the expression on Luke’s face changed from one of humor to earnestness.
“No, I didn’t do all this to make fun of the situation or you…” Luke’s voice fell off as tried to find the right words to say next. In that split second, Luke took a deep breath, and you could see how nervous he suddenly became, though he still kept a light tone. “I did it because I took it as a chance to maybe…win you over, and it also gives me an advantage because it fended off many other guys.”
Undoubtedly, you were frozen in place, unable to register the words he was saying and the implications they bear. Neither did the boy in front of you act like the Luke you usually know - somebody who was usually confident, outgoing, always having his way with words. No, the person in front of you could not even hold eye contact, the pink hue on his cheeks now spreading to the tip of his ears as he shifted left and right. Luke broke the silence first, giving away the nerves that were gnawing him away from your lack of response.
“How about this? I’ll say ‘no’ to your mind-blowing marriage proposal for now,” you lightheartedly hit him again, rolling your eyes playfully. Seeing a positive reaction from you, Luke let out a small breath of relief, but the nerves quickly overtook again as he mustered up all the courage to utter his counter proposal: “But maybe we could start with something slower like going on a date? — Or I’ll even settle with you allowing me to try and ‘woo’ you.” Luke added the last bit as insurance, in case you didn’t want to take up on the date. Part of his mind wanted to scowl at himself for seeming so desperate - but Gods, he has always been a desperate man when it comes to you.
“You’re such a dork.”
“Yet you still proposed to me.”
“You’ll never let me live that down, will you?” Luke only shook his head in response. Once again, you haven’t responded to his offer. Luke could see that you were in deep thought, the cogs turning in your head as you digested what he just said.
“You mean it? That you wanna go on a date? That you wanna “woo” me and sweep me off my feet?” you questioned. Despite the humor in your voice, there was also a hint of vulnerability and cautiousness. “Does this mean what you’ve been doing for the past few days…they are all genuine?”
“Is it that hard to believe that I like you? I don’t think you even fully understand the feelings I have for you. I’ve had my eyes on you for a year now, which is the entire time I know you, and I’m afraid I can’t see that changing any time soon.” Luke had to bite his tongue to prevent himself from saying more because he was sure he would never stop talking about you if he could. Maybe those unspoken words ought to be things Luke would disclose in the future. If you give him the chance, he will ensure you hear everything he adored about you.
“Well, that’s good then, ‘cause I happen to like you too,” your words made Luke’s eyes snap to yours, almost in disbelief.
Luke felt as if his heart was blocking his airway by the way it was thumping so hard in his chest to the point he could feel the vibration in his neck. He held his breath over your confession and the way you were looking at him. Oh, Luke was convinced he was utterly doomed because how could he be so affected by one single look. He was suddenly unsure whether he would be able to handle your affections or ever live without it if it was taken from him. He’d spend the rest of eternity like a deprived man.
“Aw, look who is nervous now,” you teased, deciding to somewhat torture him and get him back for teasing you earlier. “I did not think I had this kind of effect on you, Castellan,” you approached him slowly, keeping eye contact with his now dilated pupils.
“I mean…all I did was say a couple of words and you’re all tongue tied. What would happen to you if I do this?” you swiftly grabbed Luke’s camp beads and pulled him down, eliminating a significant amount of space between your faces, though not completely. To steady himself during your action, Luke’s hands steadied on your hips and stumbled slightly, though you did not mind the touch.
You never knew it was possible for his face to flush even more, but it did. Luke gulped and your eyes casted down on the way his Adam’s apple moved when he did so. The way he reacted to you only intoxicated you with power even more. You glanced upwards a bit, eyes observing his lips for a split second before looking back up at his eyes. You smirked when you caught his eyes flickering back to yours from your lips as well.
Just as you were about to close the distance, Luke pulled back just a bit, finally able to speak, though his words were heavy warnings, “If this happens—” Luke stopped, unsure he should let you know. Luke shook his head lightly as his eyes traced over your features before continuing, “If we kiss, there is no going back for me. I don’t think I could just…forget about it. So, please, just be sure before you do it.” Your eyes softened at his words.
“I promise, Luke. I am sure,” you muttered, though Luke knew you meant the words by heart from the way you were looking at him.
You finally pulled the boy down again using his camp necklace.
As your lips touched Luke’s, he let out a content sigh. His hands clung onto your hips, pulling you flush against his own body while you caressed both sides of his face in your hands. Luke felt like the world was swallowing him whole. The boy now knew what your lips tasted like, and it felt like an addiction. He could feel his heart waving white flags at that moment, completely surrendering to you. He was right before. There was no going back from this.
But oh, if Luke knew an apple was all it took, he would have tossed one to you himself.

A headcanon of Percy Jackson x reader daughter of Zeus, where he has been in love since the first day he saw her, and he had also recently arrived at the camp, please
˒ ⌕ SHE IS LIKE THUNDER
parings: percy jackson x zeus!reader
an:I know I disappeared, forgive me 🤧, but picture me writing this at 3 AM, dying of sleepiness after watching the last episode of PJO, AND ANNIE USED THE NICKNAME 😭 THIS EPISODE IS STILL TOO MUCH FOR ME TO PROCESS!!!!
summary: the one where you're a daughter of zeus, exploring your relationship with percy.
( my last work || my last work for riodanverse || go to main masterlist )
You and Percy crossed paths during one of your training sessions. Luke was giving Percy a tour of the camp, and when Percy laid eyes on you, he halted abruptly, as if struck by lightning. For some inexplicable reason, he felt an urgent need to know who you were, as if the gods themselves demanded it.
Percy's eyes widened as he observed you from across the training grounds. "Who's that?" he asked, pointing a finger in your direction. Luke suppressed a chuckle, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Her? Oh, that's Y/N, daughter of Zeus." Percy squinted, trying to decipher your actions, as you accidentally summoned a small lightning bolt that fizzled out near your feet. His eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Does that happen often?" Luke grinned. "Only when she's particularly excited, which, by the way, is most of the time. You should see her during thunderstorms!" Percy blinked, watching as you waved sheepishly, causing another faint spark to crackle in the air.
You and Percy found common ground in venting about the gods upon his arrival.
"Hey, little thunder, how's it going?" Percy grinned. "Don't call me that," you replied, trying to keep a straight face. "I'm good too, thanks for asking, Lightning Rod," Percy joked, emphasizing his newfound nickname for you.
Attempts at using your powers together proved futile, as water and electricity didn't exactly make for a harmonious combination.
According to Percy, Cabin 3 was way too big for just him, and assuming you felt the same way about Cabin 1, he started a tradition. At 12:00, he'd show up at your cabin, asking to share it, turning into a routine of hosting pajama parties in each other's cabins.
After you discovered that your half-sister, Thalia, had been turned into a pine tree to save her, Percy couldn't resist teasing you about it.
"Do you think your dad would turn you into, what, a fountain? Or maybe a cherry blossom tree would suit you?" Percy grinned, enjoying the opportunity to rib you. "Jackson, shut up," you retorted, rolling your eyes at his antics. Later, when Grover and Annabeth intervened, trying to keep you two from frying each other, Percy couldn't resist a parting shot. He had soaked you with water from a nearby forest stream during the mission, leaving you drenched and fueling your desire to electrocute him. "Next time you want to electrocute Percy, make sure I'm not around," Annabeth teased as they separated you, noticing your soaked state. Grover, being the peacekeeper, started singing the song of friendship, encouraging both of you to hug it out and apologize. Percy, however, observed that you were shivering from the cold as you walked. Realizing this, he handed you his jacket, concerned. "You'll catch a cold if you stay wet like this," he said, offering you warmth amidst the chilly aftermath of your water-based altercation.
Since neither you nor Percy admit to having feelings for each other, you find yourselves in constant teasing and banter.
During a mission, you two start a squabble because you want to lead everything, and he just wants to do his thing or isn't paying attention to what you're saying. Grover and Annabeth exchange glances, seeking a way to mediate.
It takes a long time before you muster the courage to admit you have feelings for the son of Poseidon. You decide to confess first because, knowing Percy, it would take ages if you waited for him.
"Percy, I need to talk in case we don't get out of here." "Spark Plug, we're getting out of here; trust me." "I like you, Seaweed Brain." He stands there in shock, mouth hanging open, unable to believe that you like him back.
After Percy managed to confess that he also liked you, you enjoyed teasing him about his stunned reaction. But deep down, you were terrified that he might have said he didn't like you back.
Percy becomes incredibly protective of you.
"Touch her, and you'll be dead."
You love stormy days and spend hours on the beach with Percy because he can control the water, ensuring you both stay dry.
"Isn't it beautiful?" "What, little storm?" You pause, gazing out at the tumultuous sea, the waves crashing against the shore. "It's like the ocean is in harmony with this storm. It's as if they understand each other, finding peace in the chaos." "Maybe," Percy finally responds, a soft smile playing on his lips. "Maybe storms and the sea have a way of finding peace in chaos because they understand that even in the wildest moments, there's a certain kind of order."
You appreciate the profound simplicity of his words, and in that moment, he wraps his arms around you from behind, resting his head on your shoulder. For the first time in a long while, you feel at home

luke castellan masterlist part two
“No way,” Percy muttered under his breath, giving Charlie the same disbelieving look he was receiving back. "I don't believe it."
Charlie shrugged.
“Well, you’d better,” the boy whispered back. “Cause it looks like they got something serious, man.”
The pair watched in part disgust and part fascination as they watched the blissful pair across the fire. Luke had his chin rested on her shoulder, whispering something Percy assumed was flirtatious due to her flustered reaction- all pink cheeks and giggles as she reprimanded him playfully, pushing his chest. Luke remained unfazed, lips curling smugly and crossing his arms as he brushed a quick kiss against the plush of her cheek.
Charlie’s eyes widened further. “But how? They’re so-”
“Different?” Silena finished her boyfriend’s sentence, looking up from her charred marshmallow stick. “You’re not one to talk, Charles. Look at us. Besides, she makes him a completely different person. Look.”
The trio turned their heads once again, this time to the nauseating, in Percy’s opinion, sight of her feeding Luke pieces of sticky marshmallow, both of them giggling when it gets everywhere. Luke pokes his tongue out to get the last bits off of her fingers, and she squeals.
Percy’s nose wrinkles, turning to Charlie. “Disgusting.”
“Agreed,” Charlie nods with a grimace of his own. “It’s a miracle he got her, to be honest. She’s so…”
“Bubbly?”
“That.”
Charlie sighs. “I am happy for him, though. The both of them. Even if they are… terrifyingly different.”
Percy nods in agreement, heart swelling in joy for his first friend at camp. “Yeah.”
The older boy sighs. “They’re too mushy though,” he remarks.
Percy’s eyes narrow at the scene of the lovesick couple, now kissing tenderly with not even the fire casting fluctuating shadows over their faces able to hide the content of their expressions. “Not nice.”
Charlie inhales. “Oi!” he yells over the fire. “Too much PDA, man! Get a room!”
Laughter ripples through the air, and both guilty candidates break away, one unnaturally red- faced and the other tittering, finger hooked around the string of her partner's beaded necklace.
“Fuck off, man,” Luke complains loudly, eyes dancing with glee. “Leave me and my girl alone.” He wraps an arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer than deemed possible.
She looked up at him, adoration gracing her soft features as she stared at her lover. “Don’t be mean, Luke.”
“He started it!”

prologue part II
Eager fingers stretch across the keyboard, one by one, to form words, the words into sentences, the sentences into paragraphs. The keyboard was no match for his racing thoughts; every small dent barely satisfied the eagerness in his chest. He could yell at the sky in frustration. Why couldn’t the words just write themselves?
His topic for this lengthy assignment felt unique, equipped with a theory he formulated himself, and he couldn’t contain the excitement of finally documenting his web of ideas. For a while now, the world drowned out around him. No sound or person could get his attention; however, as he marks down a clever thought led to him by her for the first time, his mind wanders.
Florence. The image of her forms in his mind. He visualizes her eyes first. Their green color, how clear they are like moss-covered ponds, and how they droop and pinch at the ends. He can recall the first time he gazed into them, the way they captivated him at first sight. By now, he’s stared into them plenty, and every time, he admired the way they were right at the cusps of both striking and lovely.
She wasn’t his girlfriend. Not yet, at least. She was a friend, a close companion, a like-minded individual that he just so happened to have a major crush on. The side of his mouth quirks upwards. The word crush felt so juvenile but so was his feelings towards her. At his age, he didn’t think he’d find a connection that took him back to the purest form of infatuation from his youth.
He intended to ask for her heart right after the midterms passed. Though, a running feud in his mind questioned whether to ask her when the semester was over. During the summer, they would allow their love to flourish alongside flowers in his mother’s garden. He had fallen in love with the idea but waiting that long didn’t feel right. He knew waiting was stalling the rejection a part of him was expecting to receive.
Another voice in his head told him he was just being paranoid. He’s sure their many outings together had to mean something. Her soft smiles and laughs at his jokes, the tension-filled brushes of their hands. The flirting couldn’t have been all in his head. Right? The idea that he’s misinterpreted it all made him antsy in his seat. It’s enough to release an anxious sigh, and his vision moves upwards to soothe the strain of his neck. His hand rubs the ache, and as he closes his eyes, he suddenly notices a rhythmic creaking.
His mother whispers frantically under her breath, shaky fingers resting on her lips in deep thought. Vincent furrows his eyebrows. It was a rare sight to see his mother so disheveled. Her usually kept hair had wisps out of place, and the look on her face was riddled with torment. She paces again and again, unphased at the bothersome sound of creaking wood or even the harsh thumps of her step. Vincent marvels at how this small woman has such a thunderous stride as if her worry gave her extra weight.
“Um, Mom?” Vincent hesitantly calls, and it’s not enough to catch her attention. “Hello?” He calls for a second time, his voice more pronounced. His mother’s gaze adverts quickly in his direction, and the creaking ends. “Could you not pace? You’re making me anxious.”
“Well, that makes two of us!” Cordelia throws her hands in the air, exasperated. “First, it was the phantom cries—”
“Dad, Mom is losing it.”
“Let her be.” Vincent’s father, Theo, sits back on the loveseat on the younger boy’s right. He waves his hand dismissively, eyes fixed on the crossword puzzle in front of him. After 25 years of marriage, he’s far used to his wife’s paranoia.
“Then the dream where I was in a hospital…. and the geese in the yard! You saw the geese!” Vincent and Theo exchange a look. Cordelia searches for a hint of validation with her frazzled eyes.
“It’s near migrating season, is it not?” Theo points out, scribbling down an answer in the boxes.
“Well, yes… it is, but there were so many! Then, I cracked an egg with two yolks when I was making breakfast this morning!”
“And that means?” Vincent sighs, eyes following her back and forth as if he’s watching an intense tennis match.
“Someone is either having twins or is going to die.”
“Well, let’s hope it’s not the latter,” Theo mutters.
Vincent stifles the chuckle in his throat. “Or you just happened to crack an egg with a double yolk. Not everything is a sign, Mom.”
“I know not everything is a sign, Vincent, but I got goosebumps. Then the candle holder on the altar fell over. Lady Hecate is trying to tell me something. I just don’t know what.” Cordelia makes a beeline for the altar on the other side of the living room. She settles in front of it, adjusting the placement of her offerings with shaky hands.
Vincent sighs, watching his mother whisper a brief prayer for clarity. When she catches her son's eyes, worry flashes in her features.
“Something big is at work here. I’ve asked her countless questions, but the answers are so vague. Last night, I pulled a handful of cards in my divination session with her: The Tower, The Empress, The Page of Swords, The Page of Wands, and The Sun. It all felt domestic, youthful, and transformative.”
Vincent frowns, leaning his chin on the sofa's backrest. Cordelia stares at the tablecloth as if her answer will ascend from it any second now. Suddenly, she gasps, turning to her son sharply. “Have you and Florence—?”
“No! We haven’t!” Vincent groans. He ignores the wave of heat gracing his cheeks and returns his attention to his laptop.
“Well then, what’s all this baby business about?” Cordelia sighs. “Perhaps I’m interpreting it wrong.”
“Perhaps,” Vincent mutters, gaze fixed on the blinking cursor to find his previous train of thought.
“Honey, why don’t you sit down and have some tea? Or you can sit outside and let the neighborhood kids know we’re giving out candy. They always skip our home.” Theo smiles warmly at Cordelia. She sighs once again, her shoulders slumping in defeat this time.
“I guess Funeral Homes are too creepy even on Halloween,” Vincent sighs.
“You know, I’m starting to think that our impressive pomegranate growth in the garden this past summer has something to do with it too!”
Vincent pinches the bridge of his nose, and before he or Theodore suggests Cordelia take up one of their offers, the doorbell rings.
“Maybe your big thing at work is at the door.” Vincent jokes, quickly catching his father trying to hide his smirk.
Cordelia scoffs, fixing her hair in front of the mirror by the staircase. “You both just think I’m a madwoman,” she mutters, trudging downstairs to meet the trick-or-treaters.
There was silence for a while, and both men returned to their tasks before the hysterics. Theo was convinced Cordelia was finally occupied with something, but quickly, his satisfaction curdled into a panic when a wail proceeded to a harsh gasp.
“Mom?”
“Honey?”
The two rise from their seats, eyes widening as the door slams closed. “THEO! VINCENT!”
The calls of their names send their feet moving. They hurry down the stairs and turn the corner through the lounge area. As they appear at the doorway, Cordelia kneels over two golden baskets glowing like lanterns in the darkroom. With glistening eyes, she looks up, her hand over her heart as if it was the only thing preventing it from beating out of her chest.
“Dear Heavens, someone left their babies on our doorstep?” Theo approaches the baskets, kneeling beside his wife. He peeks under the white blankets in need of a closer look to confirm what he’s seeing is real.
“We have to take them to a firehouse,” Vincent gawks, frozen in his spot.
“No! What are you talking about? They’re ours!”
Theo and Vincent exchange glances with each other, pretty sure Cordelia has lost it. As Vincent is about to protest, a choked sob leaves her.
“Lady Hecate sent them; I know it. It all makes sense now.” From Vincent's view, he doesn’t see the letter she’s grasping for dear life on her lap. She shakes her head, “I knew it was her when you brought her into my shop, Vincent. How foolish of me not to recognize my patron in my presence.”
“Mom, what are you going on about?” Vincent kneels beside her. She meets his gaze with a veil of sympathy and presents the letter to him. In gold ink, it shimmered, To Vincent.
“Honey, the babies, they're yours.” There wasn’t a hint of amusement in her tone, but Vincent couldn’t help but scoff. There was no way these two babies were his. It was impossible.
“Is this a prank?” He asks as one of the babies coo and fusses in their blanket.
Cordelia quickly reaches for the child, cradling them until he settles down again. “Lady Hecate has a sense of humor, but I don’t think this is a display. Read the letter.”
Vincent carefully takes it from her, the paper thick in his hand. It didn’t feel like any regular envelope. It was made from a material he couldn’t identify, but its surprising weight is fitting for the heavy news inside. Still doubtful of his mother's conclusions, he opens the letter with shaky hands.
Dear Vincent,
This will come as a great surprise; therefore, I will explain myself the best I can and hope it will be enough. Your mother has been a devotee of mine since her youth, and it was through her did the fates introduce us. My attendance at your presentation was merely an errand; I did not foresee our gazes meeting or our relationship flourishing as it did. It was there I introduced myself as Florence and not by my real name, Hecate. Please do not take the falsehood of my identity as deception. For it was what I had to do to protect you and, as selfish as it may be, to have the room to get to know your soul the way I yearned to.
As for the children on your doorstep, your mother’s suspicions have been right. The twins are ours. They are a physical manifestation of your tender adoration for me and my affection for you. I am confident you and your parents will nurture and keep them well under your roof. You may name and raise them as you please. The only thing I ask is that you see them as gifts, not as burdens. Our time together was unwillingly temporary, and it’s through our twins I could reassure you had a piece of me to keep. Their lives are a lit flame representing our love despite my absence, so please, take your love for me and invest it into them.
As much as I wish to raise them beside you, there are rules I must obey. However, I will never be far. I will watch over your family as I’ve done for over a decade now. Every milestone our twins meet, I will be aware of. I’ll make sure of it. Whoever they become, they will make me proud, and so will you.
Vincent, please take care of yourself. Continue being the wise and gentle man I have fallen in love with.
With lots of love and great apology,
Your Florence

au where everything is the same except percy gets new relatives on paul's side
a little old grandma who feeds him and gives him money to buy everything he never could when he was poor growing up
everytime she sees him, she babies him and tells him how tall he's gotten and complains about how skinny he is (she is also #1 percabeth shipper)
a grandpa who fought in the army and trades war stories with percy
who also ADORES annabeth and loves having intellectually challenging conversations with her about architecture, philosophy, mathematics, literally everything
an aunt who helped sally throughout her pregnancy with estelle which makes sally cry because she didn't have anyone when she was carrying percy
sally crying again because she's never had a parent figure since her uncle died and now paul's parents are all over her with their affection and acceptance (especially once they find out about the greek world)
a cool older cousin who ruffles percy's hair, teams up with annabeth to make fun of him, plays video games with him (annabeth teases percy that despite saving the world multiple times, he still wants to impress said cousin but still finds it cute how percy is adjusting to being the little brother for once)
when percy goes missing, all of them team up and consider marching up to olympus to kill the gods for kidnapping their new little baby boy
then after the events of hoo they adopt all of the seven
and they literally have to buy a bigger table because of the big family dinners they all have
and percy's just like 🥲 maybe relatives don't need to be out to ruin your life and traumatise you 24/7?
