HERBERT DRAPER: It is a sad picture, yes, but mainly it fills me with some kind of melancholy and calmness. The golden colours, still speaking of the sun, his apparently unhurt body, brown and human in contrast to the white nereids... He seems like he's sleeping and maybe he's finally happy and free :') (stardoused)

Herbert Draper was an English painter who painted this piece in 1898. "Lament for Icarus" is an oil on canvas painting that's currently owned by Tate Britain, a free to visit art gallery located in London. The piece is 180cm x 150cm (5.9ft x 4.9 ft)!)

i think climate change discourse often uncovers ways that people have trouble thinking about things on a certain scale… for example it feels counterintuitive to say that on the one hand, the US is iirc the second biggest emitter as a country and the biggest per capita (since number one is china whose population is famously quite large), and on the other, if we waved a magic wand tomorrow and the US went fully net zero, that would not really have a huge impact on the situation as a whole. but it’s true, because there are just that many more people living Not In The US. or like, it is both true that taylor swift traveling is probably responsible for more emissions in a year than you or i would be in several lifetimes, and that banning private jet use entirely in every single country in the world would be a drop in the bucket at best because it’s a relatively small subset of a relatively small fraction of global emissions. a lot of ostensibly justice-focused climate rhetoric has a very moralistic viewpoint on what we might call disproportionate emitters - which is why many people read a sentence like “taylor swift’s private jet use is mathematically negligible in the grand scheme of things” and assume it’s some kind of ethical or moral defense of taylor swift (or the US, or 1%, or whatever) - but i am starting to feel like “what we really need to do is hold the rich accountable” is just as much performative magical thinking as whatever alleged greenwashed bandaid someone is bringing it up to criticize, because saying it feels radical or serious but betrays a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of the actual scale of the problem.

what are bradley’s earliest memories of ice and mav? the bits of his perspective on them that you’ve written are so fascinating

fairly unsurprising answer but: ice: when he came to see Carole to apologize for killing goose in ch 2 of wwgattai (sets the tone of their relationship)

mav: something very benign like mav doing magic tricks for him as a little little kid. you know how your earliest memories are always a little fuzzy and always afternoon sunshine? imagine a desaturated maverick sitting crosslegged in the grass in pale afternoon southern california sunshine showing Bradley how he can detach his thumb from his hand and then put it back again. no blood, no bone, no pain, and he’s got this daredevil grin like he’s enjoying separating his thumb from his hand. can’t see his eyes behind his aviators. the best magicians are the ones who can make even their pain disappear. or, playing “got your nose,” holding Bradley’s nose up so he can see it right in front of his very eyes, NO PAIN!, and then making it disappear. “where’d your nose go, Gosling? oh, my gosh, I lost your nose!! how’re you gonna smell? i bet you’re gonna smell bad. get it? get it? —here it is, i found it, don’t worry, it’s all good!” and putting his nose back so everything’s ok. that’s Bradley’s earliest memory of mav.

My entry for the first day of Mumscarian Week! The prompt: New Beginnings.

The first episode of the season was honestly one of my favorite episodes ever, and so I decided to make a (kinda long) compilation of my favorite moments in mumbo, grian, and scar's povs! It also is, coincidentally, a compilation of Scar dying LMAO.

Also I made this in capcut so its kind of slapdash if I'm being honest. I've never made a compilation before XD. But, I hope you enjoy! This was very fun to make.

I AT LEAST have gotten some practice inputting on the side I suck at and practice at some weirder tech (burst safe point for 2d, jD in corner as a launcher for free eddie summon, some shadow gallery spacing, etc etc etc) so hopefully even if I dont go farther than 0-2 I can do some stuff im pretty proud of in those losses ^_^!
