WordStream is stealing fanfics and using AI text-to-speech to make audiobooks, AI art covers

I'm still trying to dig into this as much as I can, short of making an account and poking around in it. But it appears WordStream monetizes via premium accounts, though I have no idea what these tiers offer. It also looks like you're able to upload works to be made into audiobooks, but I highly doubt there is any vetting process, so someone can just upload your works without permission and boom, now it's suddenly on their library and being fed through AI to generate an audiobook (and it looks like book covers as well???)

The developer is Ofek Weitzman and there is zero means for reporting stolen content because the entire site's business model is stealing content. There are published books, though so far I am only seeing works in the public domain, where the copyright on them has expired (Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland, etc.)

As of right now, I would suggest you search for your fic handles to see if your work has been uploaded. Right now, as far as I can tell, there's no way to report individual works on the website itself (because that would break its entire business model, wouldn't it) so your only recourse is to report the app on Apple (requiring you to actually download it and then go through Apple's entire circuitous reporting process) or report the site itself to Google.

Every single part of this is a scam.

From the AI audio to the AI covers. Ofek is stealing the hard work of countless authors in order to make money off people who either don't know any better or don't care.

not sure if this is helpful to fic authors but — the people yelling at you for writing about (awful evil trope/thing)? they’re reading it. they’re in that tag giving hits but no kudos. they open it in a private browser and they absolutely read whatever it is they’re shaming you for. maybe not every single anti shipper, or reader, but a lot of them. they will send you anonymous hate for a fic they’re 100% secretly subscribed to (and feeling bad about enjoying).

so yeah, when people say it’s not you, it’s them — take that at face value. keep writing, and, if possible, enjoy the extra engagement.

It's not the first — and it certainly won't be the last — time he finds himself staring at his ex-partner, clearly out of place at his apartment. There is something weird about Dazai's appearance today, though. Something that's almost more unnerving than finding the bastard lying comfortably on his couch when he comes home from work, or noticing his drawers have been thoroughly examined (which, of course, Dazai lets him know intentionally, to get on his nerves; he wouldn't be so obvious about it otherwise).

What strikes Chuuya as odd is the fact that Dazai actually knocks.

It's not like they're on great terms. Sure, they're not actively at war with one another; that doesn't mean they're friends. That one time he had to patch up the bastard when he got injured conveniently close to Chuuya's apartment was just out of basic human decency, alright? Okay, maybe out of respect for the old partnership too. Call it a slip of melancholy camaraderie, whatever — the point is, Chuuya's been staring at Dazai through the peephole for three and a half minutes and he genuinely doesn't know what to make of the situation.

Dazai knocks again.

"You do know I can tell you're there, right?" rings his voice through Chuuya's steel-reinforced door — a safety measure that hasn't proven useful against the mackerel's antics even once. Dazai's face gets closer to Chuuya's fisheye view. "When someone is looking through their peephole, they block the light that usually comes through it, slug."

Chuuya huffs and deactivates his ability — if he needed a bit of help from his gravity manipulation to reach the inconveniently high peephole, Dazai doesn’t need to know.

"What exactly are you doing here?" he says as he opens the door.

Apparently, Dazai doesn't mind pushing Chuuya's body aside with his own shoulder to let himself in without asking.

"Dazai ."

As if he just remembered you generally need to offer an explanation to people when you randomly show up at their house on a perfectly enjoyable Thursday night, Dazai freezes in his place in Chuuya's living room and turns toward him. 

"Showers broke down at the Agency's dorms," he says. "I had nowhere else to go." 

Chuuya raises a brow. "Since when do you shower?

Dazai snorts — scoffs — and continues his walk towards Chuuya's bathroom, bag on his shoulder.

"It's a valid question," Chuuya mutters. "Also, what the fuck do you even mean, I had nowhere else to go ? What are the other agency bastards doing? Couldn't you go with one of them, wherever they are?"

"Chuuya's shampoo smells better." The bathroom door clicks behind Dazai.

"If you wanted expensive shampoo, you should've thought about it before leaving your extremely high-paying job at the Port Mafia!" He raises his voice so he knows the bastard will hear him.

"Is that a hint of resentment in your voice?" Dazai opens the door again. He hasn't gotten to undress at all. Only his tie has come looser, and the first button of his shirt is undone.

Chuuya sputters. Jesus , keep it together.

"You wish," he replies, tilting his face upwards. "Hey," he suddenly realizes, "How the fuck do you even know what my shampoo smells like? Actually, no, I don't even want to know the answer to that. If you come at night and smell my hair, I think I'd rather die ignorant-" 

"Now, why would I do that?” Dazai asks with faux innocence in his batted eyelashes. Chuuya is about to reply, 'cause you're a creep , when he adds, "You wear that old hat all day; your hair probably smells horrible."

"You little-"

The door is snapped shut before Chuuya can get a decent punch in.

He sighs. What else can he do? Let the bastard shower.

In the meantime, Chuuya slips into his pajamas — the soft, warm fabric soothes whatever tension he had been inadvertently holding in his body— before he goes to bed. He turns the TV on and zaps around some channels before he settles on some sitcom from the 90s, but he isn't truly paying attention and he knows it.

His mind is elsewhere — you'd say it was elsewhom, if that was a word that existed. For some reason, he can't stop thinking about Dazai's wording choices tonight. He knows his ex-partner is crafty in the way he expresses himself. Dazai doesn't need to take a lot of time to think of the words he wants to say; he's quick enough that he understands exactly what he's implying with each and every one he uses. If he hadn't been a mafioso-turned-detective, Chuuya would have thought him fit for a linguist or something like that. So, what the hell did Dazai mean by...?

Well. No, Chuuya doesn't need to kid himself. He knows what was implied. He knows that if Dazai implied something, there must be a reasoning behind that something. And by now, he's past the point of guessing.

He knows this man. He knows exactly what he meant. The real question is why Dazai let him know so clearly. Really, everything about his behavior tonight has been out of character.

Oh.

Dazai's hair isn't wet when he steps out of the bathroom and sneaks into his ex-partner's room. Not only does the redhead have better-smelling shampoo, but he also possesses a very powerful hairdryer.

Chuuya appears to be dozing off when Dazai's head pops in through the door, but he wakes up immediately. There's a marathon of some old American TV-show he hasn't watched running on the 50-inch HD screen. Chuuya doesn't seem to be enthused by the plot either.

They stare at each other silently for a moment — Chuuya, sitting up on his bed, and Dazai, standing awkwardly in the middle of the room. It isn't the first time tonight that he feels out of place.

"You know you didn't have to lie, right?"

Dazai's eyebrows shoot up. "I didn't. Chuuya's shampoo does smell nicer than-"

"Save it," Chuuya sighs, but there's no bite to it. If anything, it's almost... warm. "I meant — about the showers."

"Oh."

So he's figured it out. He shouldn't be so surprised. Chuuya is many things, but stupid isn't one of them.

"You don't have to lie," Chuuya repeats. "You don't have to explain shit either. We're not fifteen anymore."

There's subtext in that statement. Dazai could read between Chuuya's lines and decode a message that says I know you with his eyes closed and his ears covered.

So, when he says–

"I wasn't lying, before,”

–he trusts that Chuuya will get the message. Judging by the nod...

"Yeah. I know."

I wasn't lying when I said I had nowhere else to go.

There's a beat. And then—

"So, what is it, then? You're feeling like shit?"

For the second time that evening, Dazai snorts. He appreciates the phrasing, though. 'Shit' is a noun vague enough that the pain could be physical or mental, and the closed yes-or-no question narrows down all the possible answers to monosyllabic words.

"Yeah."

Chuuya nods like he expected as much, and starts to get up from his bed.

"What are you doing?" Dazai frowns.

"Well, you're just standing there hoping I'll ask," the redhead strides toward him and drags him by the arms in a single moment. Once again, the sharp words sound almost sweet. "It's a bit pathetic, even for you."

Dazai doesn't resist Chuuya's grip or his pull toward the bed. He half-wants to refuse. There's a side of him that wants to, but it's not the side he's been trying to listen to for the past few years. That side is a little confused, but it's saying something along the lines of: 

Fuck it, if you're going to be vulnerable, you might as well do it with your ex-partner in crime turned enemy turned begrudging friend with mutual trust, right? 

All the chaos in his mind quiets down slightly when he burrows into Chuuya's silk sheets, under the duvet. He almost wishes it wasn't that way. That Chuuya wasn't so adept at reading him and perfectly guessing what he needs every single time he does this, no questions asked. But he is, and it makes running away from his feelings all the more difficult in the best and worst way.

"For someone who said we're not fifteen anymore..." Dazai trails off, just to fill the silence.

Chuuya is on his back facing the ceiling, just a few inches away from him — far enough that they don't touch, but they could, if they wanted to. He turns his face at Dazai with a small grin at the tinge of nostalgia in his voice.

"Go on. Finish that thought."

Dazai finds himself rolling his eyes half-heartedly. "Why would I? You've already finished it in your own brain. Congrats, Chibi, you've finally proven you have one!"

"What, are you embarrassed that you still have the mental maturity of a fifteen-year-old?"

Chuuya clearly realizes his mistake as soon as the words leave his mouth.

"Are you embarrassed that you still have-"

"Oh, don't start about my height, you piece o-"

"I didn't even get to-!"

"You and I both know you were going there. Shut the fuck-"

A pillow lands on Chuuya's face before he can finish his statement. As it slowly falls from his head back to the bed, it reveals a shocked — perhaps offended — expression.

"Well, that was immature," he states calmly, "This is what I get for letting you into my house, my shower, my bed-"

"Oh, woe is you," Dazai can't stop himself from inching closer towards him anymore. There's something magnetic about them both, there always has been. "And I'm supposed to be the dramatic one here."

Chuuya laughs, but he tenses a little when Dazai's head falls on his shoulder. Dazai waits patiently for a sign, any sign. One second passes, then two, then Chuuya relaxes and adjusts their position so they're lying against each other more comfortably. Okay, then. 

"You still are."

Dazai cocks a brow at him.

"The dramatic one between us," Chuuya adds. "I just have a sense for theatrics, that's all."

Dazai finds himself smiling at that. He takes in the warmth of their interlocked arms — their hands are limp against each other's, and Dazai will keep it that way, at least for tonight.

Chuuya's other arm rises, and Dazai can tell he was about to activate his ability until he remembered he couldn't in his current position. Instead, the arm searches around the bed until he finds the TV-remote and turns the sitcom off. Now, only their rising and falling breaths can be heard in the quietness of the room.

He can tell Chuuya wants to say something just by the way he's breathing, the way he opens his mouth slightly and closes it at random intervals. Dazai waits.

Eventually:

"Will you be gone by the morning?"

He turns towards the redhead, his head falling more comfortably against his chest — he doesn't mention the heartbeat. There's no need to do so.

"Look, I just–” Chuuya is stumbling over his words. “I'd rather know now , y'know, than just... I don't know."

Dazai considers his options carefully. 

"I have work in the morning,” he starts, slowly, “And the agency is kind of far from here..."

But, deep down, he's weak.

"And... Nobody there actually expects me to show up on time."

Chuuya gives him a good look, and then he nods. The arm that was entangled with Dazai's and in-between them leaves — only to wrap around Dazai's shoulders, the hand landing gently on his brown locks.

"Okay, then. Good night, Mackerel."

Dazai breathes in before he sighs contentedly. "Night, Slug." 

And now that they are so close together, he's got to admit it.

Hat or no hat, Chuuya's hair does smell pretty nice.

Curze is still very much attached to you, to the point he never, ever lets you out of his sight. He adores you like a goddess since it is the only way he knows how to show affection, so, you try to gently lead him along, trying to nudge him in the right direction.

You could never have dreamed the direction that your life would take when you became a legion serf for the Night Lords. Like a train being derailed, you never imagined in your wildest dreams that you’d be taken to bed and cuddled so tenderly and affectionately by the Night Haunter. Konrad Curze. Master of terror. Yet, despite his titles, his ‘prestige’ and reputation, he was gentle with you, acting as awkward and affectionate thanks to painful inexperience with love. He was so clearly touch starved and obsessed over you that it hardly mattered what his titles were. He just wanted you with him, wherever he went, he made sure you never left his side.

Unfortunately, Curze was not a sound sleeper. He twisted and turned in bed, whining like a scalded hound from nightmares that tormented him all through the seemingly endless night. It wasn’t a new concept to you, except, you were used to hearing him toss and turn at night from outside of his bedroom. Not beside him in his own bed. His whimpers and cries were enough to prevent you from sleeping. With every twitch and cry, you found yourself pitying him worse and worse. It’s been months since that first kiss, since he first confessed his inexplainable feelings towards you, since you began sharing a bed with him. But his nightmare-filled cries still stung all the same, even after everything.

Finally, you decided enough had to be enough. Upon a little bit of self-reassurance and convincing yourself that you should wake him, you sat up, your back against the headboard as you finally worked up the courage and reached over, placing your warm palm on his freezing skin. Almost instantaneously, Curze snapped awake and shot up in bed, chest heaving, his hand over his hearts, eyes wide with panic. His hands were trembling as his gaze then darted back at you, now unpleasantly wide-awake. Curze could only lay back, muttering to himself. You did the best you could to cool his nerves, speaking up more to soothe him. “Konrad, you were having a nightmare- I- I’m just trying to help-… come here.”

Curze muttered an apology for startling you, yet he didn’t completely listen to your words. Not until you reached over and placed your warm hand on his cold cheek. He gave a resigned sigh and finally listened, rolling over onto his stomach and propping himself up on his elbows. You kept your hand on his cheek, guiding him over until he had his head on your lap like a dog to his master. Your touch was soothing as is, but to have your thighs as a pillow was the closest he felt to heaven. He gave a low growl like a big cat, shifting his weight so he was lying on your legs, his arms wrapping around your midsection. He held you close, like he was protecting you from whatever haunted his nightmares.

It was quite entertaining to see him like this. A 9-foot-tall demigod with a thing for torture and flaying people alive, resting on your lap like a house cat. You chuckled softly, leaning back as you ran your fingers through his, somewhat greasy hair. It didn’t bother you too much, though, since you basically had him wrapped around your finger. He gave a soft squeeze, burying his face in your thighs. “Hnnh… thank you. You’re too kind to me, my lady.”

His words certainly caught your attention. That was the first time he called you ‘his lady’, almost as though he was already thinking of you as his wife. Chances are, he probably was, seeing how obsessive and protective he’d been over you in the past few months. Somehow, strangely enough, he still found it hard to express himself to you. Curze tried his absolute best to make sure you were comfortable. He tried his best to keep you company, give you privacy, and to take care of you.

All of a sudden, you found yourself frozen in place for a moment, feeling a slightly cold sensation on your thighs, just below your nightgown. Followed by Curze softly squeezing your thighs, getting a small noise out of you. He paused and looked up at you, resting his chin in your lap. He’d been pressing soft, brief kisses to your thighs, trying to show his gratitude for your company, and for your touch. It soothed him, and he wanted to return the favor. “What is it? Are you okay? A- am I being too hasty?”

Curze looked a little worried, an expression that was not one you were used to seeing on his face. You leaned back a bit more against the headboard, placing your hand on his cheek. “It’s okay, dear. You can keep going.” You tell him in a reassuring manner. Curze needed a surprising amount of assurance. He was a primarch, for throne’s sake, but he also wanted to be a sufficient enough lover for you. He was trying his best, so he did as you told. Curze continued to press soft, gentle kissed on your thighs. In an agonizingly slow show of his affection, he moved up, pressing kisses to your thighs, stomach, breasts and gradually your collarbone and throat, again getting a brief noise out of you, almost like one of subtle pleasure.

Curze moved his hand left hand to reach for yours, slowly yet surely getting hungrier with his kisses. He gripped your hand tightly, possessively as his lips grazed your jawline, a low rumble in his throat as he extracted more of those noises he craved to hear. It was driving him mad, as if he was sane before. A low, rumbling growl emanated in Curze’s throat like a wild animal in a rut. It was driving you about as mad as he was with how slow he was going. You could feel his heated breathe on your throat and it was making you blush.

Then, a gasp, followed by a much louder moan left your lips as he nipped your throat, teeth digging in painfully, yet still in a way that caused pleasure. You moaned softly to him, encouraging him to continue. His other hand found its way to your thigh, groping your thigh and prying your legs apart. It was difficult to believe that this was the same man whimpering and whining from a bad dream just a couple of minutes ago. He left a mark on your collarbone. A hickey, with teeth marks around it to signify you were his, and if any of his Night Lords even tried to touch you, he would rip them inside out and drag the corpse around as an example.

Curze’s hands were trembling with excitement and anticipation as he continued to smother you in kissed, slowly bringing it to a stop. You look at him in confusion, before abruptly realizing what he had done. You reached up to touch the hickey he left on your neck, staring at him blankly with a very flushed look on your face. Curze stared at you like a lost puppy. Despite his wanton and need for you, he still wasn’t sure. “I don’t want to take this too far. Not yet. It’s too early, you’re so-.. beautiful a- and I don’t want to ruin you… not yet.” Curze finally confessed, looking shameful until you spoke up to comfort him.

“Dear, my darling- you aren’t ready, and that’s okay.” You reassured him. His eyes lit up for a couple of seconds, nodding in return. Curze went right back to burying his face in your soft thighs, turning red enough to make all the blood he spilled over the years look pale. He gripped your sides and whined again, returning to his position on your lap. He really, really cared for you.

Despite just how badly he wanted to take you in his own bed, he had no idea where to start, nor how to get the mood going. Sex was a hard thing to get to, and you couldn’t exactly blame him for being so pitifully nervous. It wasn’t like he had any time to practice back on Nostramo. For now, cuddling and simple affections would have to suffice.

I will admit, I procrastinated a bit while writing this one but thus far I’m really proud of it, writing this, it felt a lot shorter than it actually ended up being which was a pleasant surprise

After watching how absolutely INSANE and DETAILED this video by callimara is... I have decided, to also make one crazy compilation, reasonings, and potentially a rewrite for "The Nun" specifically on behalf of Irene and Maurice as a ship.

After I figure out how to use milanote and successfully organize my ideas, it would be exemplary if I could also upload a youtube video on it! (i have never posted content like this on yt btw😭) and thank goodness I'm a professional yapper! only if I could make use of my time properly... and just in case I wouldn't, I'll just share the link here!
