Rest Well - FFXIV Write 2023 - Day 30: Amity
Ao3
-
These kinds of days, while uncommon now, were not unfamiliar to Halditar. The perfect storm of stress and thoughts she could reign in, her body working against her at every turn building up and causing her head to just shatter. Left her sickly with symptoms, but no illness. Exhausted in a way she imagined people three times her age experienced. In her youth she’d be forced through the day, existing in some spot between panic and pain, feeling every part of her body and the world around her, so loud, just so much.
As an adult though, she had the safety, the freedom, to remain at home. Her home, with no one to bother her or interrupt this necessary recovery. Hidden away from the bright lights, the crowds, the sharp smells and sensations. Laying on her soft bed, in a dark room, listening to the white noise from the radio and nature just outside her window. Forcing out all thoughts. It wasn’t the best, often boring, but it was what recovering was for.
She had her glasses off, the world now a blur of less sharp colors that was easier to look at. A mint rolled around in her mouth, trying to use it to stimulate her appetite against the nausea that held her stomach in an iron grip. Halditar would have continued to lay there, letting the calm of nothing roll over her, if not for a knock at the door.
The roegadyn groaned, pulling herself off the bed through her home. She had hoped G’raha would have told everyone she wasn’t feeling well when he sent her a message earlier this morning. Preparing to have to turn away a friend, she opened the door. But not a person was there. Instead, a basket, filled with some medicine, a heavy plush chocobo, and a small collection of mild snacks greeted her. She pulled it into her arms, seeing a card, signed by all of her friends.
Instantly her heart fluttered, and while her body and mind still ached, this was plenty healing for the soul. She returned to her room with basket in hand, feeling care in so many different ways, and thinking on how to return it once all was fine.

Livvy's #FFXIVWrite2024 Wrap-Up Post
Hi all - we did it! Whether you wrote all thirty days, are still catching up, won't be writing all the prompts or were just spectating this year... we made it through September!
As always, I have to kick things off with a massive thanks to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for creating this incredible event and keeping it running every year. This is by far my favorite XIV event because it's such an incredible showcase of the talent and love we all pour into our own (and each other's!) work, and it couldn't be possible with Moen's absolutely massive investment of time and energy.
This was my SIXTH consecutive year completing #FFXIVWrite! Last year, I learned my lesson about not tempting fate by invoking all the previous life crises I had weathered each September that absolutely would not inhibit me from writing (and I lied in last year's recap, everything was absolutely not fine). This year, in lieu of breaking out the thirty pieces I posted across twenty different characters, I'm going to share some things I've learned this year about myself, my writing, and/or my characters:
I wrote some of my absolute favorite bits with five or fewer minutes until the deadline. Whatever lesson I learn from this will be the wrong one.
Ashe and Rosenheim tied for the highest number of prompts: they each came in at four this year. Rosenheim has historically been a really tricky character to write, because he's so stoic and introspective... but I think I was feeling the sad man hours this year. Ahtyn came in just below them at three prompts.
Ashe and Ilberd canonically fucked during 2.1 (before she and Edge got serious). (I already knew they had canonically fucked pre-2.0, but this new information is extremely important to me. I love my favorite war criminal.)
Ahtyn canonically crossfades.
Ahtyn is also working through some intense and complicated feelings about her legacy post-Endwalker. Getting to develop a new side of her character has been an incredible and unexpected gift.
I try not to track collective word counts for this challenge because I tend to put myself under way too much pressure when I do, and because I like the freedom of going back and editing some pieces after the fact, but I can tell regardless that I've written way more this year than in any year before: I've had more pieces with 1k+ words this time around than any other year previously!
My #FFXIVWrite pieces for this year can be found here! I'm thinking of posting some of them on AO3, so stay tuned for more info!
Thank you to all the wonderful friends who cheered me on, read my stuff religiously, offered thoughts or inspiration, and/or were even more excited about the prospect of an Ashe/Edge/Hien threesome than I was. It made a massive difference, this year and all years. ✨
I'm hoping to use this blog more often outside of September - stay tuned!
And if you're still reading this, if you participated this year, this is a direct invitation for you to send me a piece you've written this year that you're especially proud of. Yes, you!

Final Fantasy Write 2023 Master Post!
Hey look, this year I've got a header! My eternal thanks to my dear friend Khulan Malaguld, also on Famfrit, for this image!
So! We've just wrapped up the seventh year of FFXIVWrite! If you wrote even one thing, even just one sentence, good job! That is the whole point of this, after all! As always, I must thank @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for all the work she puts into this. I can't imagine what it takes to wrangle so many of us.
As always, the fun isn't over yet, at least in this little corner of the world. I'll be taking October to polish and expand upon everything and post the results daily over on AO3. So look for Listen to the Heartbeat in the coming hours live now! Locked to registered users.

FFxivWrite2021 Recap
This post is extremely overdue! I apologize! Last year was a particularly busy one for me. While y’all were exercising your creativity with the prompts each day, I was preparing for the birth of my first kiddo - a little guy who came 3 weeks early and before I had a chance to recap the challenge. Once he was here, I disappeared into first-time-parent newborn life for awhile. And now, I’m back! Thank you all for your patience and understanding as I navigated (and continue to navigate) a major life change.
Now, without further ado, let’s recap!
10,390 total entries were submitted in 2021!
This includes all entries that were submitted via the Google Form, including late entries (and excluding duplicate entries).
Which brings us to 31,556 total recorded entries since we began this challenge in 2017!
And, we had 80 volunteer artists in 2020!! Which means that there were 80 prize-winners!
A breakdown of the stats + announcement of the Participation Prize winners are below the cut ~
Want to see all public entries? Here’s a link to the Master Spreadsheet. This omits entries that people requested to keep private between them and I.
Total Participation Year to Year:
Prompt Participation by Year:
NOTE: The big dips are Make up / Extra Credit Days. Lots of folks choose to take a break over writing Extra Credit. Legit!
Prompt Breakdown by Week:
Submissions by Day:
NOTE: Day 7 was the day before the 24-hour deadline went into effect. Hence, the big ol’ spike.
Submissions by Platform:
Participation Prize Winners
Winners were selected via a random raffle dice roll made by each of the artists and span all online writing platforms, including Tumblr, Ao3, Google Docs, and others (like Twitter). This writing challenge is not a contest - no one’s work was being judged for length, skill, etc. The prizes are based on participation only!
Prizes are a simple black & white portrait of the winner’s character. Most are shoulder up but the artists are free to take liberties if they’d like. Prizes are not commissioned work, so ultimately it’s the artist’s choice for what they’d like to do for the piece. Some artists (not all) accept commissions and might be open to colorizing a prize piece, after it’s been posted, at their normal rates.
All of 2021′s winners have been contacted, and most prizes have been completed. As always, there are a few whose artists needed to drop out for personal reasons, and that’s ok! In those cases, the winners will be carried over into 2022′s pool of winners where another artist will pick up their prize and complete it. That being said, if you were a 2021 winner and you haven’t seen a completed prize yet, please feel free to reach out to me!

FFXIVWRITE2021 RECAP MASTERLIST
[ It’s been a month you guys! Wow, I was actually scared for a moment that I couldn’t be able to keep up - and I know the quality of my work started to hit the fan towards the end due to some medical complications. But looking back on the past FFXIVWrite challenges, I want to say that I’ve definitely improved! It was so fun to get to know your characters a little more, and even get to know new ones along the way too!! Don’t mind me as I reblog literally everyone’s recaps as I come across them so that I may immerse myself in the prompts I missed! ]
[ Each title of the prompts are named after songs (with said songs linked in each prompt), because I love associating music with my writing! Also I’m really bad at titles lol. Even if the prompt may not be for you, I highly recommend each song I’ve posted! It was really cool to see a lot of you jumping on the music bandwagon as well, because I love hearing what y’all like and what you associate with each piece or character! ]
[ Little notes! Characters listed will be my characters only, if there are NPCs or other characters, they won’t be listed here (unless the character belongs to another person). Content warnings are at the top of each prompt, please read them before reading the prompt, so that you don’t walk into anything you might not want to read. ]

FFXIVWrite 2021 - Recap
DONE! FFXIVWrite 2021 if officially over, and what a ride it has been!
I read so many amazing stories - even though there is never enough time to read everything - so another huge Thank You to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for organizing this event! ❤ And also a huge Thank You to everyone who participated, you rock SO MUCH!
I hadn't planned on making a continuous story, (otherwise the header would've shown one of the characters and I would've chosen another title...) but somehow prompt after prompt just fit, and then I was hooked. I really loved exploring the messy, complicated, sexy thing Lahabrea, Ash, and Thancred have going on and honestly, I am so excited to see if we're actually going to meet Lahabrea again in Endwalker.
So let's see what we we have this year:
Masterpost | The Tales Behind The Legend (AO3)
total word count: 40,813 words
shortest prompt: Abandon (570 words)
longest prompt: Friable (2923words)
free day submissions: 4
personal favorite prompt: That's difficult bc I loved many of these prompts. I loved exploring Thancred's perspective while being possessed in Baleful, and Friable left me cackling gleefully bc I knew ppl would scream at me. And the softness of the last prompt, Abstract.
personal hardest prompt to write: Debonair. I don't even quite know why because it just lend itself to Thancred, but somehow, I really struggled with that one.
a prompt i’d like to explore more: None, actually. I wrote what I felt was needed to write, and while there are of course always some more details to fill in in such a story, I think the most important aspects have been covered.
Thank you so much for all who read it and who took the time and effort to comment. It was so amazing to receive your feedback! ♥

FFxivWrite 2021 Recap!
Being deep into a plotline DEFINITELY helped get angles on some of the prompts this year, but it’s nice to have another full 30 in the bank! This is always a wonderful chance to get into little windows for characters that wouldn’t have the chance to happen naturally in the course of RP, and writing some antagonist pieces was a lot of fun. A big thanks as always to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for running this each year, to the folks involved in the Eye Plot, and of course @songsofbloodandfire who’s Kasen is always put through Hell with my Tempest stories.
But! Here’s the big lists for this year! I’ll also be updating my tags filter list to for the Writes and of course Eye Plot.

FFXIVWrite 2019 Recap
I meant to do this last year but I Never Did, so this is my year to make up for that.
Overall... woo boy, I think this year was an improvement over last year. Like a lot of it is still kind of crap, but it’s Readable crap. Ish. I did what I could, and I had fun adding in the screenshots too. So now it’s time to give out some awards!
FAVORITE OVERALL: I have to give it to Crunch because I was just so damn amused at myself for doing a funny one, but Bargain, Wilt, Bisect, and Darkness get the follow up award for also being ones I was proud of.
MOST DEPRESSING SHIT: Wilt, by far. This one fucking HURT. Follow up award goes to Bargain.
MOST LORE REVEALING: First Steps, for covering an important part of his story that has only ever been Very Glossed over. Follow up goes to Dubiety for covering another often nebulous area.
MOST UNIQUE: Slosh. I should do more poem entries!
MOST EVIL: Voracious. I didn’t really do many Evil ones this year and that’s a shame, but I couldn’t think of much meaningful.
FAVORITE SCREENSHOT: Unctuous, followed by Radiant and Dubiety. All three I really like looking back on for different reasons!
THE “NEEDED MORE TIME ON THIS AND IT SHOWS” AWARD: Attune. God damn it I could’ve made it decent if I had more time aaaAAAA
Here’s the masterlist with one word summaries:
Voracious: Did I ever mention Esredes is evil and has a rather twisted sense of justice sometimes? Bargain: The accumulation of too much Post Heavensward Depression. Lost: Esredes’ reaction to the war ending. Shifting Blame: An angsty insight into how Esredes feels about his people... and himself. Vault: Religion is awkward for him, but that’s okay. First Steps: Esredes finally goes back to Ishgard. Forgiven: Did I ever mention Esredes hates his brother? Hesitate: Today we learn that, to no one’s surprise, Esredes is not the kind of person you can have a fairytale romance with. Foster: Esredes can’t stop helping disaster bundles. Dubiety: A very brief overview of how he transitioned from a knight to a heretic. Fingers Crossed: What if Esredes had won? Scour: Esredes continues to struggle with Dragon’s Blood. Jitter: Esredes gets a Promotion but doesn’t understand why. Obeisant: How Esredes got his sword. Wilt: An insight into his post heavensward depression at its worst. Radiant: That period of time where Esrey felt good about the heretics’ chances at winning! Bisect: An abstract psychology lesson. Crunch: Esredes has the worst experience of his life. Trust: That time period where Esredes was hesitant to start his not-redemption arc. Slosh: Various liquids and their meanings to him. Palaver: Esredes’ live reaction to the peace ceremony. Parched: The most defining backstory moment... is actually very boring on the surface. Unctuous: Esredes gives a Badass Motivational Speech. Attune: More into why Esredes won’t change. Darkness: A disaster family camping trip! I managed to cover a decent amount of New Ground this year. I just hope next year, there will be even more interesting things to cover.

hooray!!!! ffxivwrite has come to a close, and i'm so stoked to say that i churned out a prompt for every day!
barring my weird sleep schedule i'm really proud of the pieces i've finished. i had so much fun piecing together hallura's character (and a few others!) over the course of this event and even sketched out new paths to take for the future.
i saw a few people doing a quick recap of their work for this year's event and i thought i might do the same! here are some fun statistics and personal notes about my ffxivwrite2020 run!
total word count: 18,995 words
shortest prompt: when pigs fly (194 words)
longest prompt: shuffle (986 words)
free day submissions: 4
personal favorite prompt: foibles
personal hardest prompt to write: where the heart is
a prompt i'd like to explore more: foibles (i really, really liked this prompt LOL)
i've received so much awesome feedback and love for the pieces i posted for this event and i really couldn't be more grateful for such a great chance to grow and develop my style. in just one year i've participated in two writing events and finally worked up the nerve to make a blog to explore hallura after almost six years of her just living in my brain rent-free LOL
more than anything though, i feel like i've proven to myself that i can do this, and that most importantly i can do this for me!
thank you to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for hosting such an awesome event and for giving the ffxiv community a chance to do what it does best: create! congratulations to everyone who wrote for this event, even if it was just one prompt, and bravo for having the courage to put your work out there!
FFXIVWrite 2020 Masterpost

FFxivWrite2020 Recap
The final numbers are in, the participation prize winners have been randomly selected, and we are officially finished with #FFxivWrite2020!
8,757 total entries were submitted in 2020!
This includes all entries that were submitted via the Google Form, including late entries (and excluding duplicate entries).
That’s 2,214 more than last year (6,543 total in 2019), 5,116 more than the year before (3,641 total in 2018), and 6,532 more than the year before (2,225 total in 2017). Which brings us to 21,166 total entries over 4 years!
Pretty crazy, right??
And, we have 61 volunteer artists this year!! Which means that this year there are 61 prizes.
A breakdown of the stats + announcement of the Participation Prize winners are below the cut ~
Want to see all public entries? Here’s a link to the Master Spreadsheet. This omits entries that people requested to keep private between them and I.
NOTE: The big dips are Make up / Extra Credit Days. Lots of folks choose to take a break over writing Extra Credit. Legit!
NOTE: Day 7 was the day before the 24-hour deadline went into effect. Hence, the big ol’ spike.
Prizes will be a simple black & white portrait of the winner’s character. Most are shoulder up but the artists are free to take liberties if they’d like. Prizes are not commissioned work, so ultimately it’s the artist’s choice for what they’d like to do for the piece. Some artists (not all) accept commissions and might be open to colorizing your prize piece, after it’s been posted, at their normal rates.
If you are a winner, your artist will be in contact with you shortly for references. Make sure that your settings in tumblr, discord, and twitter allow people that you don’t follow to send you messages, otherwise your artists will not be able to contact you. You have 2 weeks to respond to your artist after they reach out to you. The 2-week countdown begins when they first attempt to contact you, so please make sure that your settings allow you to receive messages! :) After 2 weeks you run the risk of forfeiting your prize, in which case I would re-roll for a new winner to take your place.
If it’s been 1 week since this recap was posted and you haven’t heard from your artist, shoot me a message. I’ll reach out to them to see what’s going on.
Without further ado, here are this year’s winners! ~
(As usual, tumblr isn’t allowing me to tag everyone, so please let your friends know if you see them on this list!)

FFXIVWrite2020 Master List!
[ Gosh, this has been such a trip! It definitely pushed me to get out of that perfection mindset - as a lot of these pieces, I am definitely not that proud of lol. But to share all this l o r e with people - and to read all of yours! (Those master lists are coming in handy!) I won’t be changing any of the text in my stories, but I will be editing them slowly to add screenshots to them; and to start putting them under cuts with what characters and settings/timelines they take place - just in case anyone’s looking for something more specific before scrolling through long stories on my blog. Long time no post
So... Hi y'all. It's been a bit huh? Let's recap the past few weeks then.
Moved from grocery to bakery/deli and I work closing now. And I am so much happier oh my god. Even if I've come close to two meltdowns thanks to FUCKING CORPORATE being a thing. Also the steamers make the most evil sounding beeps.
There's been no writing though, so that's a Thing. I'm trying to do the Bri's Wee Bab is Born fic rewrite, I'm hoping I can get that wrangled before FFXIVWrite this year. I would very much like to share work with the Wee Bab, you know?
And the Big News: Depending on how this next paycheck sorts out, I'm going to FINALLY buy my new laptop! I'm looking at MSI laptops with RGB backlit keyboards and numpads. Numpad is non-negotiable, they're too damn useful not to have and I don't understand why laptops exist without them. I just wish I could find all that and cenerted track pads. They're all slightly to the left and that's where I rest my hand, so... Causes issues.
So yeah, that's where I've been. Hopefully I'll do more than just like posts again soon.

FFxivWrite 2019 Recap!
This whole thing is the reason I made a Tumblr account in the first place, and it’s been really fun getting to do it for a second year now. This is absolutely the sort of thing I used to talk about doing, maybe do two days of, and quit. Both times now though I’ve been able to get -something- out each day. Even if a few were short and pushed up against the deadline.
Also, I went ahead and nabbed a complete collection of this year’s posts from me, as much for my own ability to reference it as anything!
Brem:
Prompt 1: Voracious
Prompt 3: Lost
Prompt 5: Vault
Prompt 6: First Steps
Prompt 7: Forgiven (18+)
Prompt 9: Hesitate
Prompt 10: Forster
Prompt 11: Snuff
Prompt 14: Scour
Prompt 16: Jitter
Prompt 18: Wilt
Prompt 19: Radiant
Prompt 20: Biscet
Prompt 21: Crunch
Prompt 23: Parched (18+)
Prompt 26: Slosh
Prompt 27: Palaver
Prompt 28: Attune
Prompt 30: Darkness
Tempest:
Prompt 4: Blame Shifting
Prompt 12: Fingers Crossed
Prompt 13: Wax (Mild NSFW)
Prompt 17: Obeisant (NSFWish)
Prompt 24: Unctuous
Prompt 25: Trust (18+)
Mosh’ka (Einar):
Prompt 2: Bargain
Prompt 8: Gifted
Prompt 15: Currents
Prompt 22: Pupa
Prompt 29: Proscribe
Thank you as always to @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for putting this together and getting people inspired to write!

FFxivWrite Week 3 Recap
Hey, writers! Week 3 of the FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge has concluded, and we are now in the final week! The Holidays make writing a bit more tough, but remember that Thanksgiving Day is a freebie/catch up day! More info can be found here.
419 entries were submitted for week 3!
If you’d like to participate, you can do so and jump in at any time! There’s no need to start with the first prompt. There are no length or skill requirements, and songs & poems are just as welcome as stories!
6 Artists have volunteered to add to the Participation Prize at the FFxivWrite2017 project’s conclusion
That’s right! The Participation Prize has gone from 1 single prize winner at the end, to 1 weekly prize winner and 6 prize winners at the end!
If you are an artist in the FFxiv community who would like to offer your skills to one lucky drawing winner at the end, shoot me a message and let me know! There is absolutely no pressure, of course. Art prizes can be simple as the point of this project is to all write together – not to get cool art. ^_^ Fancy screenshot edits count as prizes, too!
WEEK 3: weekly participation prize winner is @ffxiv-swarm
Congratulations, friend! @ffxiv-swarm wrote a total of 7 entries during week 3 and was randomly selected from all those who participated for that week. They will receive a stylized black & white portrait drawn by yours truly!
More information about the participation prize drawings can be found here
Don’t be discouraged! <3
Remember, there are no length or skill requirements. Songs, poems, stories – anything in written form is welcome! This challenge is made for you in an effort to give you a chance to brush off the ‘ol writing chops and have some fun!

Congrats to everyone who participated, and everyone who won a prize! I didn't win any art, but that's okay. This was still my personal best year, having finished every prompt!
