Terrible Fic Idea #72: Game of Thrones, but make it Ptolemaic
There's something fascinating about the way the Ptolemys took over Egypt following the death of Alexander the Great - sure, anyone can conquer, but it takes an interesting mind to look around for ways to legitimate their rule and fall on sibling marriage as the solution. Yes, it was common among certain royal dynasties, but the Macedonian Greeks, from whom the Ptolemys descended, despised it. I would love a snapshot into how that first sibling marriage came to be.
It was this in mind I stumbled upon the idea for my next terrible fic idea: What if Jon and Robb were not of age with each other?
Aka: The Weirwood Queen Fic
Just imagine it:
Everything follows canon, with two exceptions: 1) Lyanna dies giving birth to a daughter at the Tower of Joy. Ned names the girl after their favorite Great-Aunt, Jocelyn; and 2) Catelyn loses the child she conceives on her wedding night.
(Robb is still born, but his birth date and the birth dates of all the other Stark children are pushed back two years.)
Now, it is one thing to return from war with a bastard when your wife has just given birth to a legitimate heir; it is quite another thing to return from war with a bastard after she miscarried. For this reason Ned choses to pass Jocelyn off as his brother Brandon's bastard daughter with Ashara Dayne.
Jocelyn's childhood is similar in many ways to canon, but not. Without her "twin" or any trueborn siblings to draw attention away, most of the castle dotes on young Jocelyn. Even once her cousins are born, Jocelyn remains the oldest of the lot, filled with the confidence that a child only has when they know they are loved. She loves her cousins in turn, but with the age gap they're never quite as close as canon, and she's more nursemaid for the younger ones than a playmate.
Catleyn, of course, loathes her, and begs for her to be sent away - which she eventually is. But instead of sending Jocelyn to the Silent Sisters, or across the sea, or marrying her off to a loyal man-at-arms stationed on the edge of Stark lands... Ned accepts widowed Rickard Karstark's offer for Jocelyn's hand. He's a loyal bannerman whose family has often wed Stark bastards and was notorious for his care and devotion to his first wife. It is the best Ned can do for her.
And so Jocelyn becomes the second Lady Karstark, which is awkward, as her stepsons are quite a bit older than her and her stepdaughter Alys is only six months younger, but Jocelyn thrives as a lady of a Northern House. Her husband is kind enough and largely allows her to run the house as she will, which is as best as she could have hoped for in a marriage.
By the time King Robert rides north two years later than canon, Jocelyn has given birth to a son, Brandon, and is pregnant with a daughter, Lyanna.
Canon continues apace, if somewhat delayed. Ned becomes hand of the king and loses his head. The North rises up, names Robb King in the North... and Rickard's sons Torrhen and Edward are killed by Jaime Lannister, for which Rickard kills two hostages. Robb still choses to execute Rickard Karstark.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn has been rallying forces to take Winterfell back from the Greyjoy's in the North. She succeeds, only to learn within the week that her cousin has made her a widow.
Jocelyn quietly rages. She'd never loved her husband, but she'd been fond of him. It's the hypocrisy that gets her most - because the Starks have always put family first, but she's known from the beginning that some family counts more than others, otherwise Ned would have never killed her uncle Arthur, or led her mother Ashara to throw herself off a tower, or allowed his son to think it fitting to kill her husband while they knew Jocelyn was preparing to take back his home for him.
And so what you have is Jocelyn continuing to rule Winterfell in her cousin's name but largely acting on her own, never outright ignoring Robb's commands while he's still alive but following the letter rather than the spirit of the order.
This continues for some time, with Jocelyn Queen of the North in all but name after the Red Wedding - holding off the Boltons and the Greyjoys - and gaining the respect of the North.
Into this enter Bran (as played by the Three-Eyed Raven) and baby Rickon.
After four or five years of playing Regent for Sansa, still held hostage in King's Landing, the last thing Jocelyn wants to do is give up power to her thirteen year of cousin who 1) spent the last five years beyond the Wall, letting her do all the hard work of ruling and 2) has no idea what the political situation is in the North. Most of the Northern lords feel similarly and insist Bran and Jocelyn wed, if only so Jocelyn can continue what she's been doing while Bran learns the ropes.
Jocelyn is even less happy about this, but goes along with it in name only, sleeping in a separate part of the castle.
This goes on for about two years, Bran making all sorts of subtle attempts to undermine Jocelyn's rule that - if they'd succeeded - would only have destabilized the North. Jocelyn is gearing up to have him declared addled by his trip beyond the Wall when she catches Bran - or, rather, the Three-Eyed Raven - trying to jump ship into Jocelyn's son seven-year-old son, Brandon Karstark, who with his Targaryen and Stark blood would make a better host.
Explaining to her bannermen just why she murdered her second husband is a challenge, but the evidence - that he was trying to kill her son - is rather irrefutable. Unfortunately, it leaves her in the same position as before, this time having to marry her her ten-year-old cousin Rickon to continue ruling the North.
Through all of this, it should be clear Jocelyn is doing this less out of desire for personal power - though there is a glimmer of that, especially when certain lords demand she give up her regency to man - then desire to stabilize the North. Ned and Robb had gone south, and it had nearly cost the North everything. All Jocelyn wants to do is keep the madness consuming the south from infecting the North too.
Meanwhile, Daenerys and Young Griff have joined forces in Essos, married, and begun their reconquest of Westeros. Amid the chaos, they succeed brilliantly.
They leave the North for last, attempt to replay the submission of Torrhen, but in a much weaker position than The Conqueror was - they have dragons, but winter is setting in and their martial might is largely exhausted by a decade of warfare. Regardless, Jocelyn tells Rickon to bend the knee, realizing the North can't survive on its own for long. For this they get many concessions - a break in taxes, the title of Prince of the North, and the betrothal of the Dany and Young Griff's son and daughter to Jocelyn's children Lyanna and Brandon Karstark respectively.
Jocelyn continues to rule the North, largely without the input of her third husband, who after his majority largely spends his time in Dany and Young Griff's ongoing military campaigns - putting down rebellions throughout their empire, pirates in the Stepstones, and the like - until he is killed crossing a river in Essos. The title of Prince of the North falls to Jocelyn's son, Brandon Karstark, who drops the Kar from his name and rules well - with the help of his mother.
Bonuses include: 1) Jocelyn never expressing anything other than familial fondness for any of her husbands, never sleeping with the second two, and largely being presented as an aromantic asexual who because of societal expectations forces herself to try to have romantic/sexual feelings for her first husband, fails, and then keeps her second two firmly in the baby cousins category; 2) An exploration of family dynamics in Westeros - specifically, what it means to be on the outside looking in as a bastard and knowing that your uncle and cousin don't seem to count the death of your mother, mother's brother, or husband as kinslaying, and being a woman allowed to hold the reins of power while the men are away and being expected to turn everything over to the first male claimant who shows up after you've done all the hard work; 3) The Three-Eyed Raven putting on a masterclass of how to be subtly creepy enough to cause everyone around him to think they're imagining things, when in reality it's worse than they imagined, and having been working even beyond the Wall to help bring about the Targaryen Restoration; 4) No one ever suspecting Jocelyn as being Rhaegar's daughter, and historians using the Valeryian looks her children have with their Targaryen spouses as proof Young Griff was really Prince Aegon; and 5) An exploration of the North, its traditions, and its religion, with Jocelyn somewhat inadvertently bringing about a revival of the last two through her desire to Damnatio Memoriae her late and unlamented Aunt Catelyn.
And that's all I have. I suppose its not as ptolemaic as it could be, but I was thinking of Cleopatra VII and her marriages to her two younger brothers as I wrote it, so. As always, feel free to adopt this plot bunny, just link back if you ever do anything with it.

Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire Name: sunflowers and floating dust Author: orphan account (@heliosae) Rating: Mature Pairing: Jon Snow/Ygritte, Missandei/Daenerys Targaryen, Oberyn Martell & Jon Snow, Jon Snow & Sansa Stark, Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow & Arya Stark, Jon Snow & Robb Stark, Jon Snow & Catelyn Stark Tags: Female Jon Snow, Jon Snow is a Targaryen, Jon Snow is King in the North, or rather Queen of the North, Jon Snow is a Stark, Women Being Awesome, Women In Power, Alternate Universe, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence Word Count: 11k
there is a woman on the throne
Personal thoughts:
This fic is so good!
I'm a bit sad it's orphaned, but that's the author's decision and as long as they're happy with it :)
Honestly i love the way it's written, the plot is super duper good, and i didn't expect Ygritte to be genderbent (i'm only a little disappointed, but the story is so good that at this point i don't mind)? like i was fully expecting a "you know nothing, Lyella".
Anyways, the way she's described is so interesting, and the way it's shown in pt 2 of the Slave Queen is fascinating. Mostly this phrase: "By the end of the girl's movement she had gone from a whore to a courtesan and changed clothes to a warrior." I think it's my favourite sentence of the whole 11k.
AND the plot twist at the end?? ugh, love it!

This is for @catofadifferentcolor inspired by its amazing fem! jon snow bunnies which is a guilty pleasure of mine.
And I promised a fem! Jon x Hightower, so here I go.
I have three ideas of how the thing might go:
1.-Soulmark
2.-fem!Jon disguises herself as a man to study at the Citadel.
3.-Princess fem!jon desires freedom from the oppressive life in the Red Keep, knowing that her father will never allow her to travel North she heads South.
Commonalities of all ideas:
fem!jon name is Jonna(this may change).
All ideas start before canon.
The name of fem!jon's couple is Hugor Hightower and Sam is his "squire" more like Hugor's right hand man.
Friendship between Jonna and Satin, Sam as well as Alleras.
Exploration of the faith of the Seven.
The Hightowers seeking information of magic and omens about the White Walkers.
The dragon eggs of Jonna and her future children are from Silverwind and the eggs come from the Red Lake where the dragon made her lair at the end of the Dance of the Dragons.(That is unless Cannibal makes an appearance).
I explain the three ideas here below:
1.- Soul Marks
The Old and New Gods decide to unite Jonna Snow the bastard of Lord Eddard Stark with Hugor Hightower, grandson of the current lord of House Hightower, Lord Leyton Hightower.
This one is very much inspired by Bequeathed from Pale Estates by Author376 which is possibly the best fem!jon fic ever written.
But I feel like anything I would write would be a bad copy and so I'm not too excited about this one.
From the beginning it's all about the Hightower's looking for hints of the others.
Jonna is forced to bear the heavy burden of how to manage a house like the Hightowers(luckily she has help) as she is the future mistress of this house as well as adapting to the south, its customs and religion one that she has always shunned as that was her stepmother's domain.(This however helps her prepare for when she is queen).
Bran travels with Jonna to the south as Hugor's squire, the rest of the Starks stay in the North at least at first.
(This one is undecided)Shireen joins the traveling party at Dragonstone because it is believed that a cure has been found at the Citadel or at least they are close to finding it. Patchface soon dies.
The traveling party goes by ship and accidentally attend Daenerys' wedding with Khal Drogo. Hugor murders Jorah at the wedding to cleanse the honor of the North and the Hightower (Shireen poses as a Florent if she goes with them on the voyage).
Brienne becomes Shireen's handmaiden. So that she has a protector in places where the men cannot go.
Lots of exploration of the Faith of the Seven.
Tyrell and Hightower being family and acting like it. Jonna realizing that the Starks and the Tyrells are more alike than she will ever admit.
Olenna thinks Jonna looks like the Targaryens and dismisses that thought immediately as absurd and that her eyesight is failing. It doesn't take well to realize that she figured it out before anyone else and can't rub it in the others' faces.
Prophecy of Azor Ahai reimagined using the old gods and the faith of the Seven as drivers and a bit of Valyrian sacrifices.
Good Aegon/young Griff. I'm not sure about Daenerys.
Jonna and Hugor have two children before the war against the Others the rest come after.
For now that's what I have for this idea.
------
2.- fem!Jon disguises herself as a man to study at the Citadel.
Jonna calls herself Jon. She left Winterfell because she felt there would be no future for her if she always stayed under the protection of her father and Robb.
She studies medicine and languages mostly to be able to go to Essos someday and make money there.
Together with Sam and Alleras she discovers the cure for the greyscales.
She stays away from Hugor as she fears he will discover her secret and cast her out. However they are not able to stay away for long almost as if fate or a certain raven manipulated destiny to bring them together.
Many think that Jonna is Lord Dayne's bastard son whom he does not want around so that he does not threaten the status of his son Edric.
Exploration of the Citadel.
Road trip throughout Westeros in search of omens about the Others by mandate of Lord Leyton Hightower. A certain person may birth dragons during the course of this or encounter Cannibal.
Prophecy of Azor Ahai reimagined using the Old Gods and the faith of the Seven as drivers and a bit of Valyrian sacrifices.
Well Aegon/young Griff. Not sure about Daenerys.
----
Princess fem!jon desires freedom from the oppressive life in the Red Keep, knowing that her father will never allow her to travel north she heads south.
Targaryen Drama
Nobody expects Cannibal
The moment Jonna leaves the capital things start to get crazy, thank goodness she got out of there.
It's basically Jonna and Hugor having their slow romance while King's Landing is in flames.

ok but Doran convinces Obreyn not to kill Lyarra bc this must be the gods way to give them the chance to get revenge for Elia
you know since they have a direct and valid claim to the throne
I...may have a soft spot for Oberyn Martell, which is probably very obvious here.
Lyarra had been genuinely surprised that Oberyn hadn’t dragged her out of the birthing bed, but perhaps he still had some affection for her despite the fact that she was the daughter of the woman he hated more than anything. But when the Maester declared her healed enough to walk, he guided her to a meeting with Doran.
Which was another surprise-she’d expected to be forced to answer for the crimes of her parent’s in front of more people than just Oberyn and Doran. Even the Sand Snakes were absent, and they were rarely far from their father’s side. Oberyn finally seemed to understand her hesitance, and his firm grip on her gentled, his hand sliding to her wrist where her soulmark rested. “You are my soulmate, my wife, and the mother of my children. I could no more harm you than I could have Elia. I swear that you have nothing to fear from me, Lyarra.”
She let out a slow, shaky breath. “I-You have my thanks, husband, for making that clear. I would make a liar of myself if I said there was no fear involved.”
Doran leaned forward, his expression fond as he watched the two of them. “We want vengeance and justice for Elia, Lyarra, but not at your expense.” He paused. “However. You are the last living direct heir to the throne, and you have two babes of your own now as well. We are in a…unique position, with our current options.”
Lyarra knew exactly what he was saying. They could say that, by right of blood, the throne was hers. What better revenge on those who had murdered Elia and her babes-and the man who’d laughed when he saw the slaughtered children-than a Prince of Dorne and his wife taking the throne?
At any other point in her life, Lyarra would have probably said no. They would have been disappointed, but they would have found another way for Elia’s justice.
However.
Sansa had married Prince Joffrey just a few moons ago, and her letters had made it clear that the little best was hurting her. It was said very carefully of course-everything Sansa did was careful-but it was clear as glass for someone who’d grown up beside her. “Promise me,” she murmured, “That Sansa and any children that monster has gotten on her will be safe.”
Doran exhaled sharply. “Monster?” He asked grimly.
Lyarra nodded. “She couches it in delicate language, but I know her. I know how she writes. I know what she means.” And they might have developed a code as girls, something fun that they could giggle over before Lady Catelyn had started to create a divide between them. But that wasn’t something she would share.
“We don’t hurt little girls in Dorne,” Oberyn murmured. “No harm shall come to her or any children, I swear it.”
Lyarra nodded. “Very well.”
From a bastard to Princess of Dorne to a future Queen. Who would have expected her to rise so high?

Snippet of an ASoIaF fic I am writing. The pertinent details are that Rickard survived the Rebellion, Lyanna bore a daughter, Ashara agreed to claim the girl as the twin to her and Brandon's stillborn Lyarra Sand, Robert legitimized Alysanne unprovoked, and the great and good of the realm are currently in King's Landing celebrating first the marriage of Prince Joffrey to Margaery Tyrell, and then Princess Myrcella's marriage to Lord Stark's fourth son, Edwyle.
-
“I have wanted to hear your take on the Dance of the Dragons, Lady Alysanne. Several Maesters have claimed it was the start of the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty.” Lord Tyrion said.
Lord Willas smiled slightly; they had bonded over his library, when they guested Highgarden for his wedding to dear Sansa. It smarted still, to be so removed from the woman who was more a sister than a cousin. Willas and she had continued their philosophical debates by letter since.
“As I see it, there are several points in history where, had people made different choices, the Targaryen dynasty might not have flittered out. The Dance was not the start, but it was if not the point of no return, at least the most apparent.” She said without looking up from her embroidery.
“Do tell, Alysanne.” Willas said, refilling her goblet with Arbor Gold.
“The last was my father’s murder. Had he not been burned alive by the Mad King, the Rebellion might have been avoided. Rhaegar would needs must be punished and Aerys deposed, but Aegon could have ruled. Have at least Prince Doran and Lord Lannister on his regent’s council, with perhaps also the late Lord Arryn. Lord Baratheon as well, perhaps, and then also a Northerner. An odd number, to forestall a tie.” She said, pausing to take a sip of the wine. It was sweeter than she preferred her wines to be, yet it wet the throat all the same.
“Not Rhaegar’s kidnapping of your aunt?” Stannis asked, brow furrowed.
“It would of course have been for the best if it had never occurred, but I do believe it could have been salvaged. The murder of the heir to a Lord Paramount was the final nail in the coffin. Then he demanded the heads of his father and both his brothers.” She said, tying off her red thread and reaching for the black. “The one preceding it was the tragedy at Summerhall, eradicating all but one branch of the family. Duncan denouncing his rights as heir to wed Jenny of Oldstones before that again. Maester Aemon being sent to the Citadel, by oath removing him from the succession, meaning the throne went to his younger brother, Aegon the Unlikely. Aegon the Unworthy legitimizing his bastards on his deathbed might have forestalled the Blackfyre Rebellions. If not, it would certainly have made Daemon Blackfyre’s cause more difficult.”
“You have given this a lot of thought.” Tyrion said, raising his brows.
“My lord grandfather finds it a useful tool of instruction, to study the conflicts of the past and theorize as to how it could have been avoided. He usually uses conflicts from the North, but it is a way of seeing history I cannot easily lay aside.” She said, popping a small pie in her mouth, dropping one down Ghost’s maw while she chewed, and flushing it down with a large gulp of wine. “Baelor the Blessed refusing to sire children, he could have remarried after he dissolved his marriage to Daena the Defiant. Had he a son, Aegon the Unworthy would not have inherited. Preceding that is of course the Dance.”
“That is quite the list, Lady Alysanne.” Stannis said, folding his hands. “I would not have expected such well reasoned an analysis from even the most studious lord.”
“I have two left, Lord Baratheon.” She said, her light voice masking her reprimand.
“And what preceded Rhaenyra’s attempted usurpation of her brother the king?” he asked, raising one brow.
“Aegon was the usurper, Lord Baratheon. Rhaenyra was Princess of Dragonstone in her own right, and the Lords of the Realm had sworn to uphold her claim. As House Stark and the North did.”
“A son inherits before a daughter, even if they are born from different wives.” Tyrion said. “That is the law.”
“A law his predecessor codified and promptly broke. Viserys himself was heir by king’s choice; why should it be different simply because he chose a woman? Had he wished for Aegon to be his successor, he would have granted him Dragonstone. Or decreed that Rhaenyra would keep Dragonstone, either for life to then revert to the heir to the throne, or to hand down to her heir. He should then have absolved the lords of their oaths to Rhaenyra and proclaimed Aegon as his heir.” She said, starting on the black wolf that were to curl around the Martell sun, biting the spear. “All who had sworn for Rhaenyra, yet supported Aegon, were oathbreakers. If Aegon was intended to be his heir, it was terrible statecraft, and doomed to lead to conflict.”
“A son inherits; always. The succession is set.” Stannis said.
“Certainly, the king’s wishes have nothing to do with the line of succession or the holdings of his family. His Grace marked you his heir until he had a child of his own, when he made you Lord of Dragonstone. It is the only way granting Storm’s End to Lord Renly makes sense as anything but a grave insult.” She said, blinking at him through her lashes in a way she hoped seemed guileless.
Tyrion considered her while trying to hide a smirk by taking a drink of his goblet. Willas sent her an incredulous look. Stannis clenched his jaw so hard she worried he might crack a tooth.
“I assume the first action that set the course for House Targaryen was Maegor’s usurpation of his nephew?” Willas asked, reaching out to scratch Ghost between the ears.
“Aye, Maegor the Cruel. A moniker well deserved. I wonder at anyone reusing the name.”
“A well reasoned list, my lady.” Stannis said, having loosened his jaw enough to talk. “I might not agree with all of your reasoning…”
“What is the last point?” Tyrion asked.
Stannis sent him a venomous look.
“What do you mean, the last point?” he demanded.
“The Lady Alysanne said there were two points in history before the Dance of the Dragons, that lead to the downfall of House Targaryen as Kings of Westeros. Maegor was a right horror, but I imagine she does not count the usurpation and the kinslaying as separate actions. The second must logically follow from the first if he wished to keep the throne.”
“The second major point, as I see it, in the downfall of House Targaryen, was an action taken by the Targaryen king thought by many to be the greatest of the dynasty. Jaehaerys the Conciliator struck a blow to his legacy the day he chose Baelon as his heir, after Aemon took a crossbow bolt to the neck.” Alysanne said, nodding down at her embroidery. The first paw was finished, balancing on the butt of the spear. She would finish all the black, before adding several hues of grey. Else it would resemble one of the shadow beasts the priest of R’Hllor preached of, the one in Braavos who had been so drawn to Ghost’s snow-white form.
“Baelon was the natural choice.” Stannis said.
She looked up from her embroidery, meeting his gaze through her lashes.
“Is that so, Lord Baratheon?” she asked. “Certainly, Prince Doran will be delighted, that his son and three grandchildren will no longer need to freeze their toes of in Winterfell. Quentyn might be miffed, after spending the four years we have been wed acclimatizing to the chill of a Northern summer. But if it is only right for a brother to inherit before a daughter, I am more useful as my husband’s wife in Sunspear, or my mother’s daughter in Starfall. Aunt Alyria will be delighted to shuffle off the duties of the lady of the household, as Cousin Edric is yet unwed.”
“I did not mean to imply you were not the rightful heir to Winterfell, Lady Alysanne.”
“Yet you did.” She said, fastening the tail of her thread. “Furthermore, you implied your own daughter should not be your heir. If only men can inherit, House Baratheon is at an impasse, as your next generation consists of two girls and two boys. Princess Margaery better start popping out boys. I am sure you look forward to being an uncle, Willas.”
“I do, Alysanne, as I am sure you do as well.” Willas said.
“Princess Arianne and Prince Trystane are both yet unwed, and I am unsure whether I would trust any offspring supposedly brought forth from Lyarra.” She said, fastening the tail of her new black thread.
“Being wed has never stopped people from begetting children before.” Tyrion said.
“Being dead does.” She said, glaring at him out of the corner of her eye. “I do consider many of my elder cousins and middle aunts and uncles more siblings than anything. Robb especially is my twin in all but blood, and I do certainly consider Minisa, Jon, and Eddard my niece and nephews.”
A Stark man-at-arms had walked up to them as they bickered, and now lent down to whisper in Stannis’s ear.
“I am curious, Lady Alysanne, about which of your children is currently Princess Arianne’s heir.” Tyrion said, pouring himself a new goblet of wine.
“Little Bran, as the third-born. Torrhen is mine, and Elia is Cousin Edric’s, as she is the younger twin. If Cousin Edric sires legitimate children before Princess Arianne does, Elia becomes her heir.” She said, rotating her embroidery one way and her head the other, to see if that made it any clearer.
“I am afraid I must leave you, my lords, my lady, the Lord Hand requires a meeting with me.” Stannis said as he rose.
“Give Uncle Ned my regards, if you please, Lord Baratheon.” She said, looking up and sending him a small smile.
“I will, Lady Alysanne.” He said, before striding off, trailing the Stark man-at-arms and his own two retainers.
Willas gazed after him.
“Do you think he is aware of just what he implied, when he insisted Prince Baelon was the rightful heir, and not Princess Rhaenys?” he asked.
“That he does not consider Myrcella part of the line of succession?” Tyrion asked. “Or that he gravely insulted the heir to the North by implying it is her uncle and not she who is the rightful heir?”
“Lord Baratheon is neither the first nor the last to imply Uncle Ned should be The Stark after my lord grandfather.” Alysanne said, starting on the tail of the wolf. “I am a legitimized female half-Dornish bastard, I am unsure whether there could be more factors working against me as the future Lady Stark regnant. My concerns align more with Willas’s, about Princess Myrcella and her future children. Overmorrow, she will be my good-aunt, and her children will be my cousins.”

Remember that sketch of Euron playing the accordion? I figured I do another sketch for the same fic on the other page, featuring something I am not remotely as confident at: kids.
So, have a complicated picture of Euron's A+ parenting involving taking a nine-year-old that can't swim (Dany) and a ten-year-old that'll crawl into every flood crevice in sight (Joan, i.e. Jon) to a tide beach. And just. Not paying attention.

Fic of the week
283 AC.
Rhaegar takes an uneasy seat on the Iron Throne.
His daughter has been born, accepted willingly by his wife, who stares down on her with kindness despite the whispers. The Usurper has been driven off to Essos, fleeing with the death of his so-called beloved. His father is dead.
He's gotten what he wanted-
So why does he feel so empty?
-
Amidst the red sands of Dorne, a She-wolf breathes her last, and a prophecy is fulfilled.
Visenya grows up knowing the love of her mother, Elia, the absence of her mother, Lyanna, and the cold indifference of her father, Rhaegar. And dreams of green eyes and black scale. With the Targaryen dynasty weaker than it has been since the Dance, enemies in the west, and a looming threat in the north, fate finds itself nestled firmly between the teeth of monsters as they scrape the land anew
This is the best GOT I have ever read. It's a fascinating take on a common AU, with fantastic characterization and storytelling, especially when it comes to Robert Baratheon. It is currently ongoing and updates regularly.
10/10 Highly recommend.

[WIP] Aegon VI/f!Jon 01
Inspired by one of my AGOT runs on Crusader Kings III.
Aegon’s heart lurches, unable to breathe as he watches Visenya fall from the dragon, her body limp and heavy—he doesn’t know how he manages to catch her but he did, arms cradling her tight and making sure her head hasn’t hit the ground.
She is covered in dried blood and she is smaller, frailer than he remembers her to be. Immediately he regrets ever returning her, regrets not fighting for her and against her stubbornness to return to her family—he is her true brother, he should have insisted.
“Senya.” Her name comes out broken and desperate, he doesn’t realise he’s shaking until Jon tries to pry her from him and he doesn’t let go.
“She needs the maester, Egg,” Jon says sharply but not unkindly. “She’s alive but she will need the maester.”
Those words spring him into action, bring hope to fight against his guilt and fear, and he hands her to Jon only because he can barely carry himself much less the both of them.
“Please,” he begs as he stumbles over himself. He doesn’t understand the sort of look Jon gives him but his Hand nods curtly and takes Visenya away towards the camp.

Terrible Fic Idea #51: A Maiden Dark and Fair, but make it f!Jon Snow/Edmure Tully
Sometimes I have terrible fic ideas. Sometimes terrible fic ideas take hold of me and refuse to let me go. Such is the case with this one, where I had the passing thought I wonder if there's ever been a fic that has the Riverlands be the force behind the Targaryen Restoration? and it turned into: What if Edmure Tully ended up married to female!Jon Snow?
Aka: The Rhaella the River Queen Fic
Just imagine it:
Edmure is a hot-headed, good-hearted flirt. He's not the smartest fish in the barrel, but his heart is in the right place. So when he comes north with Robert Baratheon's party at the start of canon and overhears some of the Lannister soldiers saying crude things about his goodbrother's bastard daughter, Rhaella Stone, he takes them to task. It's done partly to protect the honor of a maiden, partly to protect the honor of his sister's household, but quickly grows out of hand.
By the time the story reaches the ear of the king, Edmure's defense of a maiden's honor has turned into Edmure's defense of his lover's honor. King Robert, always seeking to get into Ned's good graces, orders the Lannister soldiers sent to the Wall and legitimizes Ned's bastard so she can marry her lordling lover.
And so Edmure returns to Riverrun with a Stark bride.
Rhaella herself is too startled by this turn of events to have much opinion of them at first. In the two interactions she had with him before their marriage, she'd found him well-intentioned but ineffectual - and afterwards quickly comes to the realization that she must always be the strongest voice in his ear lest someone with less pure intentions rule him.
Hoster Tully is far from pleased by his only son marrying a jumped-up bastard, but accepts it as fait accompli - that, and he literally dies a month after their arrival. He doesn't have time to plot when his legacy is on the line.
And so Edmure Tully becomes the next Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. It would probably be a disaster if not for Rhaella gently pushing him in more constructive directions while juggling as many duties as she possibly can.
Luckily, Edmure is just self-aware enough to realize he's being handled and has just enough of an ego to want to better himself for her. This is enough to avoid most of his worst blunders in the War of Five Kings, though most still see him as a henpecked fool.
Canon proceeds apace.
Ned Stark is executed, Robb is declared king, and the Red Wedding is avoided by the fact 1) Jaime is being securely held in Riverrun and 2) Robb has no unmarried kin on hand to marry off in his place.
After the Battle of the Blackwater, the Seven Kingdoms hang in an extended state of stalemate until Dany arrives at Dragonstone, with neither the Lannister or Stark forces able to gain an advantage over their enemies.
With Dany's arrival, a Great Council is called at Harrenhal. Rhaella is among the attendees and finds kinship in Dany - kinship which is proved to be real once she's introduced to Dany's dragons and not immediately turned to charcoal.
The Great Council names Dany Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She never marries, but takes Rhaella's oldest child to be her heir. Her reign should prove to be short yet influential, with her heir succeeding her in their late teens/early twenties. This heir should very much not be a floppy fish, but the Westerosi equivalent of Edward III - popular, long-reigning, and pragmatic. Very much like their mother.
Bonuses include: 1) A strange sort of courtly love between Edmure and Rhaella, with Edmure casting himself as her white knight after his actions to defend her honor from the Lannister soldiers and Rhaella somewhat bemusedly indulging him. Edmure should be aware she does not love him at first, but wins her over through his earnestness and willingness to listen to her. Theirs surprises the kingdoms by being a remarkably successful marriage, and after Edmure's death Rhaella wears mourning black for the rest of her life; 2) Caitlyn never quite getting over the fact her stepdaughter has become her goodsister has become the mother of the next ruler. There are occasional flair ups of their dislike, but mostly they ignore each other's existence save for subtle jabs at the other's expense; 3) Rhaella never quite coming to terms with being a Targaryen - despite the dragon, - but finding all the meaning and purpose she might ever have wanted from being Lady Paramount of the Riverlands.
...and that is surprisingly more than I thought I would have, but this idea literally leaped into my brain and would not let me go. As always, feel free to adopt this bun, just link back if you do anything with it.

Yandere House Stark Headcanons
A/N: I ended up not doing Bran and Rickon only because I wanted to get this out sooner rather than later and they were a little difficult to write for. If you'd like to see headcanons for them I can definitely make another post for them, just let me know.
Let's say you are a low born person looking for refuge in Winterfell after your village was sacked by Wildlings. You had hoped to find some tavern to hold up in or even a brothel, but unbeknownst to you the Stark family kept an eye on newcomers. When they received news of your arrival, they requested your presence. It was only to talk about the possibility of nearby Wildlings, but when YOU showed up beaten and scared for your life- how could they not offer their Stark hospitality?
This is where the yandere tendencies begin.
Ned Stark, as a yandere, is protective and definitely has a savior complex. He's an honorable and just man that can't help but bring home strays, so when he sees you it's like finding Jon all over again. A deep sense of responsibility comes over him and he knows in that moment that you are just as much his as any of his kids. From that day forward he assigns a room for you in the castle and a handmaiden to keep you company, not that you'll be needing it. The family of course is shocked at his sudden interest, but they all love to see him happy and nothing makes him more happy than seeing you taken care of.
Now Catelyn is initially worried that Ned has taken a romantic interest in you, but when she sees the way you both interact she understands the fatherly bond he is trying to create very similar to his own kids. It didn't take long for her to fall into her own yandere tendencies; checking in on you in the mornings, making prayer wheels even when you're not sick, helping in the kitchen to make sure your food was perfect ( and not poisoned). She takes her role as your surrogate mother very seriously, sometimes to the extent of watching you sleep or ordering guards to discreetly watch over you and report back. Her biggest worry is that you'll be taken away from them so she takes extra precautions to keep you safe.
Robb is head over heels for you instantly. Man is down bad. Much like his father, Robb has a savior complex and finds himself wanting to be YOUR savior always. He does this by training extra hard with Jon, keeping an eye on you at all times, and giving threatening looks to any man or woman who gets too close to you. He doesn’t mean to scare away any potential friends but he does mean to scare away potential lovers. He couldn’t bear to see you with anyone outside the family, and even then he has a sword up his butt about it.
On the other hand, Jon takes a while to warm up to you. He loves his family and is vicious to outsiders who could harm them. Eventually, seeing how you interact with everyone makes him a tad jealous. Not of you, but of his family and how easily they can approach you. I definitely see Jon as an overprotective/stalker yandere with strong jealous tendencies that make him beg for your approval. He finds himself wherever you are, lurking in the background, waiting for the right moment to catch you alone. Jon feels like himself around you and the more time you spend together the more addicted to your presence he becomes.
Theon is hands down THE worshiper of the group. It's a hot take for sure but as a yandere, I see Theon's insecurities and fears taking over, slightly similar to reek!Theon. He sees you as a deity, above the Lords and Ladies, even above the King/Queen themself. If it were up to him he'd be the one giving you your meals, running your baths, standing by your side as guard. He cherishes your very presence and hopes one day you'll see his never ending loyalty to you and only you.
Sansa is very quiet about her obsession, you almost couldn't tell. She's the perfect friend, always sitting next to you at meals, gossiping about the Lords and Lady's of court, and helping you stock your wardrobe. Whatever hobby you choose to pick up, she's always there to praise you in your efforts and guide you in whatever way she can. She especially loves teaching you how to embroider as it's her specialty. It was all but normal until you came upon her private journal filled with both your names in beautiful cursive surrounded by hearts. You begin to notice the closeness she silently demands, eyeing everyone else to stay away. You see the way she longingly watches you from afar when you choose to spend time with anyone else. And your dresses, that you both so carefully picked out, seem to have a little embroidered "SS" on the nape of your neck.
Arya sees you as her golden older sibling, the one who can do no wrong. She is constantly dragging you around Winterfell - riding horses and trying to shoot arrows (and failing lol). She finds comfort within you, the only person who doesn't expect anything of her except to be herself. And for that she will never leave your side. Most nights you'll find her trying to sneak into your room to share a bed, but whether she can get past the guards Ned and Catelyn have posted outside your door is another story.
