What’s your thoughts on Fili/Sigrid
In the actual canon of lotr? Pretty good. Fíli is a charmer, and canon!Sigrid seems like a sweet gal that deserves to be swept off her feet. 8/10
In my verse? Ehhhhhh, don’t think it’d work. Like I’m trying, I really am, but Sig kinda takes no bullshit from anyone, and Fíli is like 60% bs. She’s probably a little too stuck up for his taste too. 3/10
Now my verse!Bain X Fíli? That’s a pretty good ship. Just two lads behind dudes. 7/10

One Morning in Laketown...
Fíli x OC Tullaina
Requested: no - requests are closed atm, this was written by me, for me
Warnings: awkwardness, pining, what is that ending though, this is not smutty 18+ but there is some morning excitement going on with Fíli fyi - also, I don’t know what pacing is so yes this feels rushed and unfinished (no pun intended)
Summary: Tullaina is cold, and Kíli thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to help his brother out. At least, that was the plan.
Tullaina fic timeline: between Slippery When Wet and When in Mirkwood - during the Quest
Word count: 1.9k
A/N: I’m alive! After almost 7 months of not being able to finish anything, I managed to get this out of my system. Did anyone ask for this? Of course not (no one’s waiting for OC content) and even I don’t know where it came from, but the idea kept bouncing around in my head so I had to write it down.
This was supposed to be a little haha fic about Fíli’s morning wood poking Tullaina but then somehow I dragged fluff, inner turmoil and a dash of angst into this to even things out I guess. Bon apétit!
Also yes, we can all acknowledge that I’m still bad with titles.
Tumblr media
Laketown was grey, wet and cold. Even though the bowman had warned them it wasn’t a comfortable place to be, Tullaina had expected something a little more… dry.
The smell of rotted wood and mold hung heavy in the air as they settled in his living room, irritating her nose and throat and keeping her from taking deep breaths. But Bard’s house was a safe haven, at least for now, a chance to catch their breaths, fill their bellies and dry their clothes, so she shouldn’t really complain .
A warm and hearty dinner made the Company’s good spirits return, and with the mountain now within their reach and their strengths returned through food and rest, the room was filled with excited chatter and laughter.
Tullaina sat with her back against the wall, knees pulled up to her chest and a knitted blanket thrown around her shoulders, watching their merrymaking with tired eyes.
Sigrid had suggested she’d sleep in her room, thinking she could use a little privacy away from her male companions, but Tullaina had politely declined. After what happened in Mirkwood, there was no way Thorin, Fíli, Kíli or any other member of the Company would let her out of their sight, not even for one second. And she felt the exact same way.
As the night progressed, one by one the Dwarves laid down to rest on the hard wooden floor, using the provided blankets and throws and whatever they could find to sleep on. Tullaina quickly followed their example, absolutely exhausted after their escape from the Mirkwood dungeons and travelling to Laketown, with Fíli and Kíli joining her not long after.
But sleep didn’t came as easily as she would have wanted. Despite the room being packed with Dwarves and a Hobbit and a still smouldering fire in the fireplace, she couldn’t seem to get warm. The humid air and the cold had crept into her tired bones, her toes were numb and every inch of skin was prickled with goosebumps. She couldn’t stop shivering, no matter what position she tried to sleep in.
After what seemed like hours of endless tossing and turning, Tullaina rolled onto her side, double-downed and clenched her eyes shut, wishing for warmth and sleep to come at last.
“Everything alright?” Fíli whispered, having noticed her shivering form. He was careful to keep his voice down, not wanting to wake up any of the others. But judging by their loud snoring, it would take a lot more than a hushed conversation to wake them up.
Tullaina pulled the knitted blanket a little tighter around her, and nodded. “Jus’ c-cold, is all.”
Fíli reached out and covered the hand that clutched her blanket, easily enveloping it in his own. “Mahal, you’re freezing!”
On her other side, Kíli turned around so he could face them. “You want my blanket?”
“N-no Kíli, I swear I’m f-f-fine. You need your own b-blanket.”
“Tulls, you’re clearly not fine, I can feel you shaking. Are your clothes dry enough?” Fíli asked, patting down the blanket to see if it turned damp. “Seems okay to me.”
“I told you I’m f-f-fine, Dwarves are warmblooded, I’ll warm up eventually,” she tried to reassure them. If only her teeth would stop chattering so she could actually try to get some sleep…
“That’s it!” Kíli yelled, immediately shushed by his brother, “don’t give me that look Fee, no one heard me. But Tulls is right, we are warmblooded. That’s what she needs, body warmth!”
“So what do you suggest?”
“Isn’t that obvious? See, that’s why I’m the smarter one out of the two of us. Fee, you need to share your blanket! Let her sleep against you so you can share your body warmth, she’ll be fine in no time and then we can all have a good night’s sleep.”
Fíli froze, immediately catching on to what his brother was trying to do and he opened his mouth a few times to say something, too stunned to speak.
Tullaina tried to ignore the stab in her stomach when she realised Fíli was mortified by the idea of sleeping under the same blanket. She didn’t understand, there had been lots of times during the Quest and back home where they’d cuddled close to each other, and for Durin’s sake, when they escaped Mirkwood that morning he couldn’t let go of her, his arm firmly wrapped around her waist for hours after, so why would he be so against the idea now?
“It’s fine, I-I can share with Kíli, I don’t mind,” she quickly suggested, trying to break the awkward tension.
“But I do!” Kíli protested quickly, “no offence Tulls, but I know you’re a heavy dreamer, I’m not looking to be kicked in the shins. Or worse.”
“No, no, it’s fine,” Fíli stuttered after he found his voice again, “I’m sorry Tullaina, of course I’ll sleep with you-”
Both Tullaina and Kíli watched the colour drain from his face as his brain caught up with his mouth. They stared at him with wide eyes while Fíli prayed that the inside of Bard’s house was dark enough so no one could see how flushed he was.  “I mean- I don’t… That’s not… I- I’ll shut up now.”
He moved closer towards Tullaina, close enough so he could throw part of his blanket over her but still keeping enough distance between their bodies so his mother would be proud of him.
“Is this okay?” he asked with a hushed voice, “I can move if you want.”
“Fíli, it’s fine, don’t worry,” Tullaina hummed, instantly relaxed by the extra warmth and comfort radiating from him, and she could feel her eyelids getting heavier by the second.
“Now that everyone’s settled and comfortable, can we finally go to sleep?” Kíli’s voice sounded from behind them, and Fíli muttered a good night in return. He noticed Tullaina remained silent, her breathing already evened out. The shivers had stopped, but Fíli still pulled his part of the blanket off of him and covered her with it, keeping none for himself.
*
It was still early when Tullaina woke up, feeling well-rested and warm. She could hear soft snoring right next to her, and as she slowly opened her eyes, she was greeted with Fíli’s sleeping figure. Their noses almost touched, they were that close to each other and she could feel his breath brush her lips with every sigh.
Even though the room was still shrouded in the night’s darkness she could see the outlines of his face perfectly. His long nose, his moustache braids she knew he was so proud of, the lines around his mouth and eyes - the ones she could read like a map, every little skin crease depicting a different emotion, a different meaning behind them - now smoothed underneath the promise of a safe night. Her fingers twitched, eager to stroke the stray hairs out of his face, his usually well-kept braids untangled, a reminder of their flight from Mirkwood, making him look more like Kíli than he would have wanted.
She shouldn’t.
They were about to reclaim Erebor, their long lost home and it would change everything. But it was their home, not hers.
They were actual royalty for Mahal’s sake, and the closer they came to ending their quest, the more she realised that she was going to lose them. She didn’t belong in their world, or at their side. She, an orphaned daughter of an Ered Luin seamstress and a miner, had no place beside the throne. When everything was over and settled down, she would make the journey back. Alone.
After all, princes didn’t make friends with commoners and they certainly didn’t court or marry them. They would forget her soon enough.
Tullaina sighed and turned on her other side, wanting to put as much distance between them as she could. She shouldn’t think about her goodbyes just yet, they had a dragon to slay first.
Before she was able to inch further away, Fíli grunted and draped a large arm over her middle, pulled her closer and pressed his broad frame against her back. She froze at the sudden proximity and tried to fight her initial reaction of melting into him and folding her arms over his. What would the others think if they woke up and found them like this? Spooning?
But those concerns were quickly pushed to the back of her mind when she noticed something else, something very prominent and very much awake.
She knew what it was, she wasn’t a little pebble anymore, but knowing about it and feeling it pressed against your butt were two totally different things.
Fíli would probably die of embarrassment if he knew and Tullaina was sure she would be right behind him at this point. She tried to carefully squirm her way out of his arms, without waking him up, but his hold on her was too tight. In any other situation she would’ve been flattered, excited even, knowing that he didn’t want to let her go, but now she wished she had accepted Sigrid’s offer.
All her wiggling and squirming to get away only made it worse and Fíli more excited. There was no other option but to wait for him to wake up, hoping none of the others would do so first.
And for once, luck was on her side because a few minutes later, Fíli started to stir. Tullaina patted his arm softly and whispered his name, trying to get him to let go before he realised what kind of predicament he had put them in.
Fíli heard the slight panic and worry in her voice and wrongfully assumed there was danger looming. In an instant he went into full protective mode and pulled her closer against him, tightening his hold on her, shielding her body with his own. He groaned and bucked his hips involuntarily as Tullaina’s body made contact with his hardness, and that’s when he realised to his horror what was going on.
He immediately let her go, his body jolting back as if she’d burned him. By doing so, he bumped into a sleeping Kíli, who was up in a second, startled by the sudden action of his brother. The yelps of both princes alerted Thorin, who was usually a light sleeper, whose movement woke Bilbo and in just a few seconds, the whole Company was awake.
Fíli scrambled to his feet, muttering apologies as fast as he could, not knowing where to look. Tullaina was just as mortified as him, and trying to escape the questioning looks of everyone she quickly excused herself, mumbling something about helping Sigrid with breakfast, even though none of the Bardlings were awake yet.
Kíli and the others watched her dash out of the living room, but no one dared to comment. Thorin eyed his nephews carefully, but decided to let it slide for now. If it was important, they would come to talk to him eventually.
Fíli was still panting and beet red when Kíli came up next to him.
“That went well, didn’t it?” he commented, as they watched everyone getting ready for breakfast, the previous scene already forgotten.
If looks could kill, the youngest Durin prince would’ve died on the spot, twice. Fíli muttered something about needing some air and stomped out of the house into the cold morning air.
Kíli sighed heavily and pouted his lips, looking at the pile of blankets on the ground.
“Another good plan gone to waste.”

Content: Fluff, angst, rated T

Chapter 6: Journey to Dale
The festivities over, Erebor resumes its usual rhythm. Days pass then months. Still in the service of Erebor, you participate in several projects aiding or enhancing the mountain's reconstruction and often keep in touch with former members of Thorin's company. Fíli and Kíli still find time to annoy you. Princess Dís regularly invites you for tea or dinner with her, alone or with her friends. Thus, you gradually have acquaintances and even friends. Tauriel has become a friend of yours and she seems to have integrated Erebor. Especially since Thorin gets to deal with Thranduil properly.
Living under the mountain now for several months, you have your habits and your daily routine. However, one day, one of your projects asks you to go to Dale for a few days. Together with your colleagues, you organize a week-long stay in Dale with them. You are glad to go get some fresh air and see Bard and his children again. You let Dís know you are leaving in case someone asks you and you leave the next day.
The week gradually turns into two. The project is longer than you thought but you take the opportunity to visit Dale, partially rebuilt, with Sigrid and Tilda.
.
Departing in the morning, you and your colleagues return to Erebor at the end of the day. It was a pleasant trip, but you are happy to find your room.
You start by going to the room you are working in to drop off your things. As you enter, you see Kíli around your desk. Is he playing a joke on you again?
Kíli sighs and suddenly releases you. He rushes to get out. You don't understand what is happening to him, but it isn’t the first time he has been running around Erebor for one of his harebrained ideas. After putting down your things, you go back to your room.
- “Kíli!” you shout, making him jump. “Don't touch my stuff!”
- “(Y/N)!” he yells, rushing over to you and grabbing your shoulders like he is afraid you are an illusion. It's you? Are you doing well?!”
- “What?” you ask, grimacing. “Yes, I'm fine. It’s been a long trip, but I’ve seen worse.”
Arriving a few meters from your bedroom door, you hear noisy footsteps running towards you. Someone calls out your name and you turn around. Most of the former company is in front of you, breathless, even Thorin. You are more than surprised, especially seeing their shocked and worried looks. What happened while you were away?
You don't have time to say anything as Thorin walks up to you and hugs you. As strong, even stronger, than the hug he gave Bilbo after the eagles. You are also very happy to see him, but not to the point of hugging him. You close your arms around Thorin's back, patting on it to reassure him.
- “Are you going to tell me what’s going on?” you ask, breathing hardly because of the king's hug.
- “Are you hurt?” Thorin says, stepping back without letting you go.
- “Hurt? Not at all. I-”
- “Have you been kidnapped?” Dori asks.
- “Did you get lost?” Bofur asks.
- “When did you come back?” Fíli asks.
- “W-wait a minute. Let me breathe first.”
- “She's right. She's fine, leave us now,” Thorin orders curtly, turning the dwarves around.
The fire lit and your belongings put away, you can sit down on the two chairs near the fireplace. You were about to sit down when Thorin took your hands and squeezed them. As he still can’t make up his mind to speak, you begin.
The dwarves hesitate, surprised at the angry behavior of the king, then end up leaving, letting you alone with him while he still holds both of your arms. When everyone is gone, he turns to you and his gaze changes. His anger turns to worry. You look at him with a questioning eyebrow raised.
Since he doesn't tell you anything, you open the door of your room and invite him inside. He hesitates a moment before following you. You close the door behind him and invite him to sit in a chair while you light the fire in your hearth. But he gets ahead of you and orders you to put your things down while he takes care of the fire.
Thorin slowly releases you. He sighs and runs his hand over his face. You find it hard to believe that the troubled dwarf in front of you could be Thorin. He finally looks you in the eye. Despite the darkness of the room, you see dark circles under his eyes. All this fatigue you can see on his face is your fault? If he is in this condition because you've been away for two weeks, what will it be the day you go to the Shire to see Bilbo?
- “What is going on? Why were you all in panic? Thorin, tell me what's going on before-”
- “Mahal, where have you been?” he begins in a curt but sad voice. “We've been looking for you all over Erebor! At first, we thought you had been kidnapped and then we thought you were gone …”
- “I was in Dale for a project with other colleagues. I had told Dís about the trip. Didn't she tell you?”
You slowly approach him and put your hand on one of his forearms to try to reassure him.
- “Thorin, do you really think I would be gone overnight without telling you? I thought you trusted me more than that …”
You don't have time to continue as he pulls you into his arms again. You feel your cheeks heat up as Thorin buries his head in your neck. He strokes your hair affectionately with one of his hands. His other hand is on your back so that he squeezes you closer to him.
His scent envelops you and you stay in his arms for a while, not daring to move. Your heart is pounding, but you can feel his beating even harder through his clothes.
- “I was so worried about you,” he begins, still in your neck. “No one could find you. Your personal items were no longer there. Amrâlimê [my love], I even believed you had left or returned to your world. Next time, let me know before leaving for several days!”
It is the first time since the coronation you have found yourself so close to him. All the time you spent distancing yourself from him to bury your feelings is now wasted. You just want to hug him back, confess your feelings and kiss him ...
But as you gently close your arms around him, you can feel his royal clothes with the tips of your fingers; thick, silky, and adorned with gold. This electroshock reminds you who he is and who you are. You have no time to step back as Thorin begins to speak.
You stiffen up at his words. Does he realize what he just said?! Wait a minute. You may have misheard. No, it's impossible. He must think you don't know what that means ...
Thorin continues to stroke your hair as if nothing had happened. Oh. He strokes your hair ...
"Did you hear me?” he asks, slowly pulling away from you. Putting one of his hands on your cheek, he turns your head so that you are looking at him. He waits for an answer.
You have just returned from your trip. Everything is going too fast! You don't dare look at him and dodge his gaze.
- “A-amrâlimê ...?” you articulate with difficulty.
- “T-this is khuzdul,” he stammers, realizing what he just said. “Don't worry about it. Promise me not to leave without warning me.”
- “I-I promise you …”
Your eyes eventually meet Thorin's. Your answer makes him smile. He strokes your cheek with his thumb and his face gradually relaxes. Even his dark circles seem to be softening.
You wanted to play the idiot who doesn't understand Khuzdul, but your words go faster than your thoughts.
- “Thorin, w-wait a minute. Do you really think I came to this world knowing what was going to happen without knowing what “Amrâlimê” means?”
- “So you now understand what you mean to me?”
For a moment, you get carried away by his kisses. You totally melt and your legs slowly weaken. You forget everything around you, until one of his hands comes down to your buttocks and he squeezes them so that you are glued to him.
He continues to stroke your cheek and hold his gaze as if waiting for an answer. You mustn't give in! You just have to dodge his beautiful blue eyes full of tenderness, step back, tell him you don't feel anything for him and ask him to come out of your room.
Except that you can't take your eyes off him already. So when he comes closer to you and puts his lips on yours, you don't react. Well, actually you let him do it. And when he slides his hand behind your neck to deepen the kiss, you kiss him back.
You suddenly pull yourself together. You have to stop everything before it is too late, and you both regret it. You reluctantly part from his lips. You let go of his jacket, which you held firmly in your hands without realizing it.
However, Thorin doesn’t let you go. His hand goes up to your back and the other stays on your cheek. He smiles until you speak.
You catch your breath and dare not look at him. After everything you have told him, you don't have the strength to face his eyes. His hands let go of you little by little.
- “We have to stop this,” you whisper.
- “Stop what, Amrâlimê? I couldn't stop my feelings for you. I love you and from what I just saw, it’s the same for you.”
- “Thorin...,” you start by stepping back a little. “A few months ago, you thought I was a man. How can you say that now? But it’s not the problem. Thorin, I am human. I have between forty and sixty years to live, at the most. You will be alone for many years when I am no longer there.”
- “So what? I am already old. I have fewer years in front of me than behind.”
- “You must find a dwarrowdam who will stay by your side until the end of your days,” you continue without considering his answer.
- “(Y/N), if you know Dwarves so well then you know we only love one person our entire lives. So understand that I won't love anyone other than you,” he said, moving closer to you. “Give me the chance to court you and I-”
- “N-no,” you whisper, lowering your head. “I don't believe in one love that lasts a lifetime. This idea is ridiculous! Don't waste time with me. I'm not your One, Thorin. I'm not even from this world. We can’t be together. You must find a queen who will be of the same race and level as you ...
- “ ‘Ridiculous’, ‘Wasting time’?” Thorin says, gritting his teeth. “Even if you don’t feel anything towards me, know that my feelings for you are sincere. So don't tell me it's a waste of time!”
Well done, you made him angry ... Thorin takes a few steps back and turns his back to you. You look up at him and see him heading for the door.
- “What are you still doing here in Erebor if you don't want to waste time?” he shouts. “If a dwarf like me is a waste of time, maybe you should go to Dale or Bree, where you will be surrounded by humans!”
- “D-do you chase me out of Erebor?” you articulate with difficulty, feeling your tears rising to your eyes.
- “Do what you want.”
.
Thorin ends with that sentence and leaves the room, slamming the door so hard you wonder how it still stands. Sound echoes throughout your room and the entire corridor.
You didn't want it to be that way. It was all way too fast!
You don't even unpack your things. If you have to leave tomorrow or the day after, you might as well leave them as they are ... You lay down in your bed and despite everything that has just happened, the fatigue of your trip catches up with you and you fall asleep.
The next day, you don't work. Perfect timing! You start by taking a long, soaking-up bath until your fingers wrinkle. You then go to your room to pick up a book. Going through the kitchens, you prepare a hot drink and then you head for the ramparts. The fresh air will do you good.
You go to the small, quiet place where you go regularly when you need to calm down, for example, to avoid strangling Fíli and Kíli. Even if Thorin and Dwalin have already found your refuge once, you would be surprised if they came looking for you today.
Reading your previously purchased book in Dale, the day goes by faster than you thought. If the nights weren't so cold, you would be fine staying here all night. However, the sun begins to set, and you hear a voice saying your name. A female voice.
Dís smiles and sits down next to you.
You can't help but smile and Dís laughs lightly. You stay a little while staring at the horizon until she speaks again.
- “I often hid here when I was younger, when I quarreled with my brothers.”
- “If they were like Fíli and Kíli, I can easily imagine …”
You look at her as surprised as she is. Why did she come if not to tell you about your departure? Dís takes a deep breath before starting to speak again.
- “Since when are you here?”
- “Um, Durin's day is coming up, so I guess I've been in Erebor for almost a year. Why this question? Oh I see. Is that in relation to what Thorin told me yesterday? Don't worry, I'll be leaving in a few days. Just give me time to-”
- “Leave?” Dís shouts louder than she thought. “Wait a minute, did my brother tell you to go?”
You don't know what to say to her. First, you now understand the state of the company upon your return. Second, how does she know about you and Thorin. You thought you were discreet …
- “My brother has been unbearable since this morning. Even Balin and Dwalin prefer to leave him alone in his office.”
- “Oh, um, it's my fault. I-”
- “No. Well, yes. Let me apologize first,” she says, taking your hands. “I didn't tell Thorin you went to Dale. I know what's going on between the two of you and I wanted to force him to realize and react. It was very hard to deal with during those two weeks that you weren't here. But that's nothing compared to today!”
- “I know my brother well,” she says as if she could read your thoughts. “It’s not that hard to understand him once you know how he works. And I can see your gaze clearly when Thorin is near you. What happened yesterday?”
Lying to her would do you no good. You squeeze her hands in yours and tell her about the dispute you had with Thorin. She doesn't cut you off and lets you talk at your own pace. Once you are done, she strokes your hands and smiles at you.
You can't speak any longer. Your throat tightens. Now you know your feelings for Thorin are mutual, but you can't be together, it's even harder than before. He may be right finally. Maybe it would be better for you and him if you leave. Bree looked nice. And Bilbo is not far away ...
- "The problem, (Y/N), is that you hurt him," she says softly.
- “I didn't want it, but I had no choice. I’m a human, from another world, and he’s a dwarf. A King! I-”
- “No, I was talking about the fact you rejected his request to court you brutally and took his feelings lightly.”
- “But I don’t have-”
- “You told him the idea of One was ridiculous when I have known my brother for years. If he loves you, trust me, he will love you until the end of his life.”
- “That's the problem. We don't have the same longevity! When I'm no longer there …”
Dís lets you think and slowly lets go of your hands. Thanks to her, you understand Thorin's anger and regret what you said to him. You didn't have to reject his declaration like that and criticize One's idea. The princess's gaze is drawn to the horizon.
- “Even though my husband is no longer by my side, I was happy to have met him,” she begins softly. “He courted me. We got married and I never regretted having my two children. Even if I had known he wouldn't stay by my side until the end of my life, I would still have married him. What I mean, (Y/N), is that even if you're only together for a short while, you should enjoy it as much as possible.”
Her words totally troubled you. You weren't ready for her to tell you about her husband. After everything she has been through, she is able to stay strong and help you.
- “It's too late now,” you sigh. “He must be mad at me. He must want me to leave as quickly as possible.”
- "Considering his reaction when you left for two weeks, I don't think he'll let you go anytime soon," she says, laughing lightly.
- “But he said-”
- “He said that because he was angry. He won't let his One go,” she says seriously. “Possessive as he is …”
- “I'm not even from this world. I am not his One,” you retort.
- “By Mahal, of course you are,” she confirms, smiling at you.
Your cheeks start to blush. You didn’t believe this One matter at all, but Dís' words make you hesitate. No, no, no, pull yourself together!
Dís gets up during your reflection and invites you to follow her to dinner. You haven't eaten anything since this morning, and your stomach growl leaves you with no choice. You even get a little dizzy when you get up.
Dís and you wanted to walk discreetly in front of the door. But being wide open, Thorin sees his sister and leaves the room suddenly.
You follow the princess through the Erebor’s corridor. You know you are going to walk near the King's office, but you don't say anything. You will walk without stopping and without looking inside.
Except once you are a few feet from the office, you and Dís jump up at the yellings coming from the King's office, about incomplete papers and lying elves. The yellings are obviously coming from Thorin and a young dwarf comes running out and leaves without further ado. Under other circumstances, you would have burst out laughing but not now…
- “Dís, perfect timing. I can’t find Fíli and-”
When he sees you behind his sister, he loses words. His anger changes to surprise. Oh, he must be wondering why you are still in Erebor!
Dís' harsh, stern tone has cooled you as much as Thorin. The dwarrowdam's face is as harsh as her voice. Your gaze goes from Dís to Thorin. You haven't seen him yet and he looks even worse than yesterday. Oh boy, you have to sleep at night! He runs his hand over his face to calm himself.
- “I-I will leave you,” you start embarrassed, lowering your head. “I will go and prepare my departure for tomorrow.”
- “Your departure for tomorrow?” he articulates, catching your wrist.
- “Yes, yesterday you asked her to leave Erebor. Do you remember or was it the anger that spoke for you?”
All of this is giving you a headache. You start to feel dizzy, but Thorin is still holding your hand. You don't have time to hold on to something that your legs let go and you end up squatting on the floor. Thorin and Dís rush towards you.
- “I-it's nothing. I just got dizzy. I'll go eat something and I'll get better.”
Thorin's face finally turns to you. He is so close to you that you can smell his scent enveloping you. You freeze for a few moments until you realize where you are and in what position!
You try to get up slowly, but Thorin is still holding your wrist. Like he doesn't want you to run away. This isn’t in this state you could!
With just a few gestures, Thorin lifts you up like you are as light as a feather and carries you like a princess. Your eyes meet and you see his formerly angry and dull face soften. Still worried but calm. He quickly turns to Dís to ask her to find someone who could bring two dinners into his office. She nods with a smile and heads for the kitchens.
- “Y-your Majesty, we're still in the corridor. Can you put me back on the ground?”
- “No,” he said firmly. “We need to talk. Are you staying with me for dinner?”
- “Do I have a choice?” you ask, grimacing.
- “No,” he answers, carrying you to his office.
He puts you on a couch, ordering you not to move. How can he be so calm with yesterday's dispute?
Once the door is closed, he comes back to you and sits across from you in an armchair and serves you a glass of water. Only a small table separates you from him. You don't dare look at him, but you hear him clear his throat.
Has the king's office become the apology room? Neither of you dare say anything more afterwards this discussion. Fatigue and hunger make you yawn. Thorin sees it and stands up.
- “Please excuse me for yesterday. The anger made me lose my temper and my words clearly exceeded my thoughts.”
- “So you don’t feel anything for me?” you dare to ask.
- “No, this part is true. My feelings for you are real and whether you think it or not, they won’t change. However, I hadn't planned to tell you about it. Not right away, if truth be told,” he said with a long sigh. “It all happened quickly and when you rejected me I… lost control. Excuse me.”
- “Um, I have to apologize too ... I talked to your sister, and she made me realize I shouldn't have talked to you like I did yesterday. I never meant to disrespect you. Even if I don't understand your feelings towards me, I shouldn't have doubted you. And it's the same with the One’s concept.”
- “No, I was the one who didn't take your culture into consideration. I should never have raised my voice like this …”
- “I still have some papers to finish before they bring us our dinner. You can sleep on this couch, and I will wake you up when the time is right.
.....
You nod, cheeks flushed with embarrassment. You are glad you got to chat calmly with Thorin. You are even more so that he has not sought to resume the discussion of your feelings.
The couch is comfortable, and you fall asleep to the sound of Thorin's handwriting and the papers’ rustling.

Boys and sticks - Chapter 55 🔨
Fandom: Hobbit (College AU)
Characters: @linasofia x Thorin, @laurfilijames x Fíli, me x Ori
Words: 1,6 k
Warnings: cursing...and Kí is back lol
Previous chapters
“Kí, what the fuck are you wearing that for?” Fíli exclaimed before breaking into a laughing fit.
“Fí, what the fuck are you not wearing a shirt for?” his brother shot back in the same horrified voice.
“Did your mommy dress you?” Fíli just ignored his brother’s comment.
“May I remind you that my mommy is also your mommy? Do you want me to send her a picture of you – shirtless – monkeying around in a very nice flat?” Kíli grinned, moving with graceful speed to pinch and twist his brother’s nipple mercilessly.
“BOYS!” Balin chided them in a hard voice, shaking his head at their shenanigans.
“Oh, hey…” Ori looked at me, his eyes wide and starry, and nodded slowly at the newcomers in utter confusion.
“Hello my dear boys,” Balin smiled gently while handing Tova a huge platter on which a moist, heavy chocolate cake sat, “mommy has baked a cake for you. This is a very nice flat indeed.”
He looked around for a second and nodded a few times.
“Thank you ever so much for inviting us, don’t believe Kí, he was as excited as a bag of fleas,” the older man then explained in a conspiratorial tone, “his mother indeed wanted him to look his best and he was eager to comply.”
“He’s as cute as a button,” Tova grinned, fond of the young man who smiled so openly at her.
“Hello ladies,” Kíli took her words as an invitation to kiss all of us on the cheek briefly which elicited low growls from the others.
“What is the matter, bro? Jealous?”
Oh, this was going to be a feast unlike any I had ever seen, I thought, as it already looked as if Fíli was ready to bite his younger brother while Lo smirked at them in amusement.
As a matter of fact, Tova was right, unlike our emotional associates, Kíli wore a light blue button-down and a pair of perfectly ironed dark trousers; his hair was neatly combed, and his face was fresh and joyous. One day, he’d make a girl very happy.
“So, what did I miss?” he asked, leaning against the counter as I took up my preparations for dinner again.
“Not much, there was an assault scare, we have haphazardly moved out, and dinner is late,” Tova gave him a brief overview.
“And why are they not wearing shirts?” Ah, straight to the core.
“Ori is having them on, but we don’t complain about it,” Lo grinned mischievously.
“Can I help with something?” Balin inquired, evidently not happy with all of them just standing around idly while we were in the kitchen slaving away.
“Not at all, just sit down, have a drink and tell us about our beloved,” Tova said, “I’m sure that cupboard is not assembled yet.”
As if pulled by a string, they all went back to the living room, Kíli trailing behind them and within a minute, hammering and yapping started up again.
“You’re doing it wrong!” – “You have to turn it around!” – “OH, you couldn’t keep your right side apart from your left if one of them was not considerably uglier than the other!” – “Well, this is not what the manual said!” – “Put down that hammer, you idiot.”
“Your beloved? You have time still to back out?” Balin laughed when we exchanged a look to see who was going over to keep them from hammering nails into one another’s skull.
“Not a chance in hell,” Lo sighed.
“Maybe we should give them a drink as well and a bowl of chips? Maybe, they’re just hangry?” Tova proposed, but she was interrupted by another peal of the doorbell.
As we all had our hands full of food, Balin offered to open, and we could absolutely see why he was a favourite with the men; he was discreet, unobtrusive, and always kind and helpful.
“Oh, hey, I…am I…Balin, ah good, it’s you…What the hell is this place?” Dwalin grumbled.
He shuffled in awkwardly, holding a tiny potted plant in his huge hands that he extended jerkily to us.
“Here, I brought…a plant,” he explained unnecessarily as Tova took it from him and put it on the windowsill.
“That is very kind of you,” she nodded while my eyes were probably bulging out of my head; it was ridiculous, but I was weirdly touched by this gruff man holding out this tiny gift like an offering.
Between Kí’s appearance and Dwalin’s gift, I felt more than ever as if I was a word away from breaking down in tears.
“Dwalin?” Thorin popped his head out of the living room in utter astonishment.
“We’re complete! Why don’t you go over and help assemble a ludicrously small cupboard? We’ll bring over drinks and snacks in a minute,” Tova smiled and ushered him through.
“They’re the sweetest, really,” Lo sighed under her breath as she wiped her hands on a towel and lifted a wooden tray I had bought in a flight of fancy with a small chuckle, “oh, Jia, I should put on a maid’s costume for this, huh?”
“You do as you please, woman,” I laughed, trying to shake the unfamiliar feeling of being surrounded by people I actually liked that seemed to compress my heart so much that all the cracks in it fused together again.
“Erm, why are we bare-chested?” Dwalin asked, already shrugging out of his shirt, as he entered the living room and looked at four men sitting around a half-assembled piece of furniture like cavemen around a fire.
“Jia thought this was a ‘sexy’ thing to buy,” Ori informed him, frowning over the contradictory manual that jumbled all the steps.
“I highly doubt that she had you lot taking off your shirts in mind,” Kíli remarked doubtfully, scratching his head, and disturbing the perfectly neat waves of his hair.
“What would you know about that? You know nothing about girls,” his brother replied snarkily.
“I don’t need to know anything about girls, Fí, I see you clear as day and the kind of woman who would appreciate that might still have to be born…preferably without eyes,” Kíli laughed and bore the small shove – he had deserved – with equanimity.
“No, but seriously, I see things have progressed nicely since the barbecue,” he then said a little more seriously.
“Ehhh, yes, I think they have,” Thorin agreed in a mumble as he had decided to hold all the nails necessary to affix the backwall of the cupboard between his lips while he stared at their progress critically.
“Is it good to have a girlfriend? I mean, is it fun?” Kíli toyed absent-mindedly with a piece of wood while he took in the relaxed faces – and bellies – of his kinsmen, an insidious hint of envy creeping up his throat.
“Be careful what you say now, my boy,” Lo strode in and – immediately – Fí scrambled up to take the tray from her.
“Oh, snacks,” Kíli hooted, factoring in that fact in his mental calculations as well; girls had always seemed like too much of a hassle to him, they wanted very different things in life and were very often not much fun.
“You tell us if you need us, right?” Fí asked, slipping his hand around Lo’s hip and pulling her into a short kiss as she was turning to retreat back into the kitchen, “We’re not doing that whole ‘women belong in the kitchen’-thing.”
Lo chuckled with a weighty look into Ori’s direction: “Jia has it under control, even though she looks like she might need a cuddle.”
“Come sit down with me for a second then,” Fíli invited, rubbing his hands over her shoulders coaxingly.
“Let’s get the mattress from the guest room so you don’t have to sit on the floor,” Lo grinned, winking at him; she had just gotten a text saying that the TV and the console would be delivered shortly, and she was looking forward to seeing their eyes.
“Dwalin, give me a hand, you stay here and marvel at our prowess,” Fí grinned and disappeared with his cousin.
Lo did not know what there was to admire, but she smiled at the thing that started to vaguely resemble a small cupboard indeed.
“I don’t expect anyone needs my help,” Thorin muttered with a crooked smile.
When the doorbell rang, Lo smiled: “You could go open the door?”
“Let’s go over and see their faces,” Tova nudged me in the ribs, and I followed her into the living room.
Following my instinct, I crouched down behind Ori and pressed a small kiss onto the nape of his neck.
“That is the wrong side of his head,” Kíli grinned.
“Thank you, Kí, I know where his face is,” I laughed, catching Ori’s hand before the poor youngster could be shoved or playfully punched yet again, “but it was not available at this moment, and this is also nice.”
“Hmmm, it sure is, how are you doing, love?” craning his neck, Ori presented me with that face we had just been talking about and reaped the kiss Kí seemed to be looking for so much.
“Aw…so, you’re a real couple now?” Oh, how could I have forgotten that he’d go straight for the jugular?
What was I to say? We had never talked about it…
“Don’t be so naïve, Kí, things are not always that easy,” Ori replied soberly, but in my heart of hearts, I disagreed; things could have been this easy if only I was a little more confident like Tova or a little less frightened like Lo.
“You haven’t made up your mind?” Kí asked me then, softer, more careful, and I struggled to find the words because what he insinuated was not exactly where the problem really lay.
“Boys,” Thorin came in, followed by a man with a contraption onto which a huge TV was strapped, “grab your lady and kiss her feet!”

Beloved: My Everything
A.N: I’m back with part 2 of Beloved!! I’ll be coming back for real tomorrow, but I was so excited that I could not wait to post this! You can probably tell I had way too much fun with this, and I really did. And I got to write Arien again! I hope you guys love it as much as I do!!
Word Count: 3,712
Summary: Erebor is preparing for the seven-year anniversary celebration of the BotFA. As the Queen, you are fully involved, but you and Thorin also have to manage the excitement of your adopted seven-year-old, Arien.
Pairings: Thorin x Reader, Bard x Thranduil, Fíli x Sigrid
Warnings: Fluff. Kissing.
Beloved Part 1 Director’s Commentary
****
Beloved: My Everything
“Adad! Mama! Look!”
Arien was sprinting down the hallway towards the council room, newly lost tooth in hand as she called out for her father. Bursting through the double doors, the seven-year-old ran the length of the room before jumping into Thorin’s lap, proudly grinning to show him the new gap in her teeth.
Sitting next to your husband, you stifled a giggle as Thorin examined the tooth, looking like he was examining a precious piece of metal because of how focused he was. Meanwhile, the rest of the council was in various states of annoyance or fond disapproval of the meeting, Balin shaking his head with a smile at the picture the royal family was painting.
It was true you were an odd group. After adopting Arien on the quest for Erebor and reclaiming the mountain, your future had seemed uncertain while Thorin’s life hung in the balance. But he had recovered, and the two of you had been married in a stunning ceremony, with a toddler Arien placing the queen’s crown on your head. The dwarves had been worried at first about having a human queen and princess, but your calming effect on Thorin and Arien’s general cuteness had quickly won them over. Of course, the fact that your first council meeting ever had started with you walking in and throwing knives in rapid succession so that they speared the table between each of the council members (except Balin’s) hands may have given them a healthy fear of you as well.
Now, six years later, the kingdom was thriving. Trade with Dale was stronger than ever, and the uneasy alliance with the elves had grown into something more tolerant. In fact, Kings Thranduil and Bard would be visiting in five days for the anniversary of the Battle of the Five Armies, as it had come to be known.
The year after the battle was a hard one. Thorin and his nephews were grievously injured, and while they healed it had been up to you and Balin to run the kingdom. On the first anniversary of the Battle, the mood in Erebor was noticeably somber. Although the king and princes had healed, it didn’t seem as if the kingdom would ever fully recover. You had noticed this, and remembering that an elven envoy, with the king, was in Dale, had mustered up a feast and invited the men and elves to what would become a yearly tradition.
Now, you were in the throes of planning the event with the council.
“That tooth is lovely, darling. Now go play so that Mama and I can finish work, ok?” Thorin pressed the tooth back into Arien’s hand. “And take good care of this!”
Arien left the room with a beaming smile, waving at all of the councilors.
Days later, Arien burst into the room you shared with Thorin.
“Mama! Adad! Wake up! The elves are coming today!”
Thorin groaned. “Arien. How many times do I have to tell you that you should not be this excited about elves? You should be happier to see orcs than you should be to see elves.”
She grinned, ignoring him and throwing open the curtains, the sunlight streaming through the windows setting her dark skin aglow.
“Arien, no.” You gestured for her to close them, shielding your face from the early morning sun.
“But Mama they’re coming today! Imma see Sigrid and Bain and Tilda, and Uncle Bard and Uncle Thranduil and Leggy!” She pranced about the room, gesturing as she talked about everyone.
You smirked at Thorin, who had one arm thrown over his face, hair splayed on the pillow. His bare chest was glowing in the sunlight, but you were focused on the expression of annoyance you could barely see under his arm. Thorin was extremely disapproving of the fact that your daughter called Thranduil ‘Uncle,’ and adored Legolas so much. Personally, you thought it was great, helping to bridge the divide between the kingdoms. You also were friends with the Elven-King, him having sheltered you during the whole Arkenstone fiasco, and Legolas was one of your good friends as well.
“I suppose we should get up.” You shooed Arien out of the room, into her adjoining set in the royal wing, before turning back to your husband. You leaned down to kiss him.
“C’mon, Thorin. We really should get up.” You pressed a trail of kisses down his jaw, hoping to coax him up.
He groaned, sitting up. “Fine. I suppose I should look my best to upstage the elves.”
You sighed. “If that’s what gets you up then so be it.”
Thorin smirked at you, standing up and grabbing a leather tie from his wardrobe, and binding his hair back so that it cascaded down his back. You walked over to him, hugging him from behind.
“You know that Arien and I will always love you more than the elves, right?”
He nodded, turning to kiss you. “I love you too.”
Later that day, you strode down the hall, Dori by your side.
“We have everything set up in the hall?”
He nodded.
“All the food is ready?”
He nodded again.
“And the drinks? We have the Mirkwood wines that they shipped ahead?”
“Yes, Y/N. Everything is going to be fine, we’ve been planning for months. Now, the elves are about to arrive. You need to meet your husband and daughter at the gates.”
“Ok, then. See you later?”
“Go, Y/N!” Dori shooed you in the direction of the gates, and, laughing, you turned and walked away.
You stood at the entrance to Erebor, holding hands with a bouncing Arien, Thorin on her other side. You shared a smile with him, leaning over your daughter to kiss him quickly before turning to face the approaching elves. Thranduil dismounted from his elk, Legolas doing the same from his horse, and they walked towards you.
“Your majesties, your highness,” the Elven-King greeted you all with a nod of his head.
You and Thorin returned the greeting in kind, clasping the elves’ forearms. Arien stood there, now quivering with excitement, and when you nodded to her that it was okay to say hello she burst forward with a cry of, “Uncle Thranduil!!” throwing herself into his arms.
“Hello, little one,” Thranduil greeted her with a smile, hugging her back only slightly awkwardly.
You had to admit that your daughter had a good effect on the elf, he was much less prickly than he used to be. You fondly recalled the time when, visiting Mirkwood with Arien and Thorin, you had been unable to find your daughter for several hours. It was only upon going outside that you discovered the Princess of Erebor and the King of Mirkwood making flower-crowns together. Thorin’s jaw had dropped, while you had just smiled, watching Arien’s springy coils of hair bounce, her dark skin glowing as she ran around the elf, weaving flowers into his hair.
Now, Thranduil was lifting Arien to pet his elk, smiling as the child giggled. He set her down after a moment, looking behind you at the three new dwarves who had just appeared.
“Your highnesses.” He dipped his head again in greeting, this time to Fíli, Kíli, and Dis. They greeted him in kind before Kíli strode forward to Legolas. The elf bent his head to listen to the dwarf, before nodding and following the dwarf into the mountain, gesturing about what looked like bows and other archery-related things.
“And, that’s the last we’ll see of Legolas and Kíli until someone finds them to bring them to the party!” Thorin smiled as he spoke, and with that, the last of the remaining tension was broken. Thorin grabbed Arien’s hand, leading the delighted child back into the mountain. Thranduil offered you his arm and you gladly accepted, chatting with an old friend as the rest of the elven delegation followed you into Erebor.
“When will Bard be arriving?”
Your eyebrows rose at the informal use of the king’s name, but you answered nonetheless.
“We expect him just before dusk.”
Thranduil smiled softly at this, piquing your curiosity even more, but you let it slide and continued the conversation to other topics.
Back in your rooms, having repeated the whole greeting process with Bard, you helped your husband and daughter get ready for the party. Thorin had donned his finest Durin blue robes, the silver embroidery twining around the cuffs and the hem and highlighting the silver strands of his hair. Arien was resplendent in bright gold, her circlet glowing against her dark skin. Her new dress had blue embroidery around the hem, with reflective panels sewn in to refract golden light all over the room.
And you were radiant in a silver dress, full skirts swirling around your feet and Durin blues ribbons twined through your hair. Your crown sat on your brow lightly, you having opted for the delicate one to save yourself a headache. The three of you put together looked like the very picture of royalty, the elements of Durin blue in each outfit tying it all together as a familial piece.
Later that night, you sat at the high table, gazing around the great room. Arien had been hauled off by Bain and Tilda, and you could see the two older ones playing with her, all three looking delighted.
Sigrid and Fíli were at the center of the dance floor, her laughing at something he said as he twirled her around. You looked forward to cashing in the bet you had made with Thorin about them being a couple- you were rarely right and had lost spectacularly in the bet you had made about Kíli and Legolas (you had been so certain they were dating, but it was just their shared love of archery. And, as Thorin has pointed out, two people that obsessed with their hair would not have worked well in a relationship). Besides, your nephew looked very happy with the human girl.
Kíli and Legolas had deigned to join the party after their customary archery competition, and each was mingling with different crowds. Legolas looked to be regaling a group of humans with his exploits, while Kíli had joined his cousin, Bain, and Tilda in making mischief.
Meanwhile, Thranduil and Bard were conversing in a corner, leaned close together over their glasses of wine, which made you even more suspicious. You resolved to find out what was going on with the two of them while they were staying with you for the next several days.
Thorin tapped you on the shoulder, startling you from your observations. You looked up to see him standing next to your chair, hand outstretched.
“Shall we dance, amralîme?”
“Yes, please. Let’s show them how it’s done.”
You grabbed his hand, walking over to the dance for and twirling on. You heard clapping as the King and Queen of Erebor were spotted on the dance floor, and smiled. There were few things you loved more than dancing with your husband, and so as the band began to play you started.
The dancing was lovely, you switched partners after the first to dance with Fíli, then with a suddenly appearing Kíli, then Legolas. Thranduil swooped in to take your hand after his son, and Bard danced with you after the elf. Your night was rounded out by Bain asking for a dance, which you happily obliged (you didn’t want to be disloyal to any of the others, but aside from the elves, who were inherently graceful, Bain was the best dancer of the lot).
As you walked off the dance floor for what you hoped was the last time (your feet were starting to hurt), you noticed that the room was quickly emptying. It made sense, it was extremely late. You had left the celebration halfway through to put Arien to sleep, leaving an equally sleepy Kíli to watch over her. Sigrid had left with Bain and Tilda a little while ago, while Fíli sat on the dais with his uncle, softly speaking with him. Bard and Thranduil had disappeared at some point as well, although you could not say when, or if they had left together.
Now, you walked up the dais to grab your husband. Saying a quick farewell to Fíli, you entwined your fingers with Thorin’s, making your way out of the hall.
“I think we’ll be having another wedding soon,” your husband said.
You grinned. “I did tell you so. Now pay up.”
He dipped his head in acknowledgment. “So you did. And I can’t fulfill the bet until it snows, you know that.”
You did. You had set the conditions of the bet to be that if Thorin won, you’d have to dress like him for two weeks. You wouldn’t have minded, except for the large clunky boots he always wore. You would have looked ridiculous If you won, Thorin had to have a snowball fight with whoever the highest-ranking visiting diplomat was.
Reaching your room, you leaned against the door.
“I had a lovely night.” You leaned in to kiss your husband.
“I did too.” He kissed you back, before pushing open the door.
You gasped as you entered your room, looking through the windows. It was snowing.
“I guess you’ll have to fulfill your end of the best tonight!” You smirked. “And you know, we have two equally high-ranking people in Erebor right now!”
Thorin buried his face in his hands. “You’re telling me I have to start a snowball fight with Thranduil and Bard.”
You grinned, quickly changing into a warm tunic and boots, throwing a cloak over it all as Thorin did the same.
As you headed out the door, you heard Thorin mutter, “actually, throwing a snowball at that pompous elf might not be the worst thing after all,” under his breath, causing you to giggle.
You first went next door to Arien’s room, waking Kíli while careful not to rouse Arien. The prince was groggy at first, but brightened when you said the words “snowball fight.”
“Should we wake Arien?” Kíli was putting on his own cloak as he spoke.
You looked at Thorin, considering.
“She’ll be very upset if she finds out we played in the snow without her,” Thorin observed.
You walked over to her bed, shaking her gently awake.
“Mama? Is it morning?” Arien blinked her eyes open, groggy.
“No, my darling. It’s snowing! Adad needs to have a snowball fight, so we’re going outside!”
She sprang out of bed. “Snow! I love snow!”
You helped her put on her small tunic and pants, fastening her cloak tight before she tugged her boots on. Reaching out, she grabbed Thorin and Kíli’s hands.
“C’mon Adad, c’mon Kee! We’re gonna have a snowball fight!”
You followed them to Fíli’s door, then Dis’, both of whom were enthusiastic about the plan. You sent Fíli, Arien, and Kíli to rouse Bard’s children and Legolas, the adults making your way to Bard’s room.
Turning the corner, you, Thorin, and Dis stopped short.
Bard and Thranduil were entwined, kissing, in the middle of the hallway, Bard’s fingers running through the elf’s hair. Hearing your gasp, they broke apart, flushed. You all just stood there, dumbstruck for a moment, before you were spurred into action.
Walking forward, you slung an arm around each of their shoulders. “Yes, yes, congratulations and all that. Now, it’s snowing, so we’re going outside. But we’re all very happy for the two of you.”
Thorin and Dis nodded along with your words, and the five of you walked down the hall towards the gates to meet the rest of the royals.
At the main entrance, you walked over to the small door beside the massive gates, unlocking it and gesturing for everyone to follow you outside.
As soon as they were out in the snow, Fíli and Sigrid sprinted away from the mountain, and you could see them beginning to build a fort. Kíli grabbed Bain and Arien to assist him in building another, and Legolas and Tilda were starting to stockpile snowballs together. You could sense that this was the beginning of a snow-war.
Turning around, you saw your husband, the King Under the Mountain, climbing the outside walls of Erebor with a pile of snow cradled in his cloak. Finding a secure perch, he gathered the snow into balls and started raining them down on Thranduil, who shrieked at the cold, startling Bard who stood next to him into quickly moving away.
Thranduil, running over to his son’s stockpile of snowballs, was bombarded from all sides as he tried to steal from Legolas and Tilda. Succeeding, the elf started throwing them back at Thorin, nailing him directly in his face. Thorin dropped to the ground, Bard hitting him with another snow projectile shortly after. You laughed with Dis as you watched three of the most powerful people in Middle-Earth have a snowball fight.
Suddenly, white splattered all over Dis, who turned to see her younger son standing sheepishly behind her.
“Sorry, Amad. I was aiming for Uncle!” Kíli had his hands raised in defense.
“No, you were not! You’re an archer, Kíli, I know you hit what you aim at! And your Uncle is all the way over there!” Dis advanced on Kíli, a snowball in each hand, and her son promptly turned and ran, shrieking as she chased after him.
You were standing there, quite content to watch it all unfold as Fíli and Sigrid led an attack on Legolas and Tilda, Arien and Bain sneaking up to attack them from the rear. Your peace was disturbed, however, by something ice-cold being shoved down your back. You spun around, screaming, to see a smirking Thorin standing behind you. You tackled him into the snow, wrestling until you had him pinned beneath you. He was flushed, both from the cold and exertion, panting, and so irresistible that you leaned down to kiss him.
Thorin quickly deepened the kiss, and you responded, until a shout of, “Cool off, lovebirds!” rang out. Springing up in case someone was about to dump snow on you, you saw Tilda and Legolas dumping snow on the heads of Fíli and Sigrid, who quickly broke apart from their kiss with yells of “So cold!” and “Ouch!” Tilda, Bain, and Legolas, with Arien perched on his shoulders.  stood there with large grins on their faces as you and Thorin made your way to join them.
“Where are your fathers?” you asked Legolas and Tilda.
They shrugged, and you turned to your husband.
Thorin smirked. “Shall we go find them?”
You nodded, along with Fíli, Sigrid, Legolas, Arien still on his shoulders, Bain, and Tilda, and all scooped up several snowballs each. Kíli and Dis appeared, Kíli looking suitably chastened, and each grabbed an armful of snow as well.
“What are we doing?” Kíli whispered.
“We’re gonna ambush Bard and Thranduil,” Thorin informed him, “Have you seen them?”
Dis nodded, “They’re just around the corner of the walls. But… maybe their children shouldn’t be around for this?”
Sigrid laughed. “It’s fine. They’ve been dating for months now, and neither of them is exactly subtle. Our father has made so many trips to Mirkwood recently that we got suspicious and enlisted Legolas for help.”
The elf nodded. “Tilda snuck to Mirkwood in one of the carts her father brought and told me everything. We officially found out when we walked in on them kissing in the throne room.”
Tilda rolled her eyes. “They really do need to work on stealth. But the important thing here is that they don’t know we know.”
“So wait. You’ve known for months and didn’t tell us?!” Thorin was offended.
Bain shrugged. “It wasn’t our news to tell.”
“And that’s exactly the right attitude,” you smiled at him. “Now, let us go ambush some kings!”
Sticking close to the side of the mountain, you all snuck in a line. Thorin and Legolas had climbed up to dump snow on the two kings from above, while the rest of you attacked from the ground. Before climbing, Legolas had transferred Arien to Fíli’s shoulders, where she was happily preparing ammo.
You held out a hand for everyone behind you to stop, peering around the corner at Thranduil and Bard kissing as the snow fell around them. It looked quite romantic, to be honest, but a good snowball surprise was worth disrupting the moment.
You motioned to Thorin and Legolas, perched above, to begin.
“To quote Tilda, cool off, lovebirds!”
Thorin dumped a pile of snow on their heads, and the rest of you sprung around the corner to bombard them with snowballs.  They quickly retaliated, and it dissolved into chaos once again, everyone having the time of their lives.
Dis, Bain, and Tilda had taken Arien in a while ago, Dis staying with her niece, but the rest of you had enjoyed the snow for a while longer. You had all officially congratulated Bard and Thranduil on their relationship, and after the initial shock of finding out that their children had known for months, they were very pleased.
Now, you were walking back to your rooms with your husband in the early hours of the morning. You still felt the blood in your cheeks, exhilarated from the adrenaline and happiness, and Thorin was still flushed from the cold beside you. You pushed open the doors to your bedroom, Thorin shutting them behind you. You walked to your wardrobe, changing out of the soaked tunic and pants into your nightclothes, Thorin doing the same.
Once changed, you climbed into bed next to your husband, laying your head on his chest. You could hear his heart beating as his hand came up to your face, tilting up to his. Thorin slanted his lips over yours, and you responded for a sweet, long kiss, filled with love and all the emotions you could not put into words.
You decided to try anyway. “I love you so much, amralîme. You’re everything I could ever want. You and Arien.”
Thorin smiled. “I love you too, my everything.”
You heard the words rumble in his chest, and smiled softly. You had your beloved husband and daughter. Seven years later, everything was perfect.
