as someone who wasn't around in 2014....can you tell me what it was like? (stucky) can you give me a taste of the gardens of babylon etc
what was it like...this is such a fun question i want you to know i gave serious thought to my answer and also discussed it at length with my 2014 friend last night and i know already it's gonna be so long. sorry that i answered your ask at fuck o clock in the morning i am scheduling it to go up later and also at the time you sent the ask in to make sure you see it
ok so like. i mean, you're on the fandom website, right, so i assume youve been in fandoms. idk if youve ever been in a really, REALLY big fandom, at the same time that said fandom was also producing content (even if the source material was not). think d*stiel post nov 5, or undert*le circa late 2015/early 2016, or z*lda after totk came out, or h*rry p*tter as the seventh book was being released. (i'm censoring to avoid a false positive of anybody's blacklist except in the case of the last one, which i am censoring out of <3 disrespect.) like there's something REALLY luxurious about being in ANY large and active fandom and it's mostly the power of crowdsourcing. st*r tr*k 2009's tarsus iv headcanons. the storm trooper lore re: the f*rce awakens before the second two movies came out. everyone just kind of agreeing that dean w*nchester was a teenage hooker. you know?
like, that's "just fanon," sure, but part of the beauty of it is that no one person makes up fanon, we all gather in the biggest writing group in the world and collectively go insane and bat ideas back and forth. there are a hundred THOUSAND fics about bucky barnes on ao3 and that's just the people who were writing, not even counting artists and gifmakers and meta-writers and people who just reblog stuff. i can't possibly begin to put an accurate number to how many people are in any given fandom at any given time, but imagine (on the low end, i'm sure) there are THOUSANDS, perhaps tens of thousands, of people going nuts about stevebucky at all times. tens of THOUSANDS people doing "yes and" with each other on the internet 24 hours a day seven days a week. it's just like being in any fandom, you log on to your dash and see what the mewchies posted while you were gone, but in a fandom so huge and so active you were getting bombarded with idea after idea after idea every single second, so if you don't like one you're spoiled for choice in what you engage with next. it didn't even matter that cap3 was two years away or that it sucked when it finally got here because we collectively wrote cap3 a million times over. like, genuinely, it was a mass creative exercise. it's the biggest writing group in the world. for better or worse, we were shaping our own version of that universe, without any input from or regard to the people who actually created the characters and movie, in a way that compelled most strongly to our own tastes and demographic.
what made this particular movie/fandom special though was a few things. firstly i still genuinely believe it was ahead of its time...marvel shit pre disney was allowed to be political in ways it is ABSOLUTELY not now. like, cap2 could say "the government is secretly full of nazis and they all need to burn" in 2014 two years before the 2016 election and 7 years before jan 6. like you just couldn't say that now. "war bad" is an oldie but goodie, but "our entire government is corrupt and needs to be torn into flaming pieces and cast into the potomac" is um. pretty radical. so is, by the way, "men as victims" and "men having emotions" etcetc. like, not in fandom, fandom all but invented that shit, but as far as dumb superhero movies go. i can't tell you the number of metas i read AND WROTE discussing steve rogers and masculinity and how all that was portrayed, intentionally or not, in that fucking film. i had entire separate universes built up in my head for steve who was born a cis girl and steve who decided later in life that "nonbinary" or "trans woman" was a better fit and then steve who was born as a cis boy and remained a man his whole life but felt weird and different ways about being queer which clashed with the weird and different ways BARNES felt about being queer. i'm not saying the film (or the fandom! good lord) was perfect, it was a product of its time, but it was also WAY ahead of its time too. it was weird to expect the next film to come out and actually, like, be good. it wasnt, but we fully believed it would be and that wasn't delusional behavior because the last one had been. i would never have that kind of faith in a marvel project now because they've been bought by disney.
oh yeah and that's the other thing too like. speaking of queer people. gay marriage wasn't legal in the US on a federal level until 2015, and you couldn't just flip on your TV and see them whenever you wanted. ten years doesn't seem like that long ago in the grand scheme of things but like, we lived on glee and cw/mtv queerbait (disclaimer that i personally only participated in cw queerbait) and that was it. we had crumbs. and like when people write gay characters theyre Just Gay, but if you decide to be crazy stupid in a slash fandom you can decide these layered characters are gay and that's even better rep than um whatever was going on in other pieces of media. these guys are both so lonely and out of step with time and lack other people with "shared life experiences" (girl what the hell was that) and their connection w each other keeps them afloat in a world that doesn't want them so like of COURSE it seems like it's supposed to be romantic. and like, i could and did make myself and my tumblr buds crrrazy (and got made crazy by them) thinking about:
how steve's size when small and again when big interacted w his gender identity and his sexuality and how that sexuality manifested. barnes's identity As A Man hinging on his ability to go to war for his country bc Thats What Men Did but now he's no longer fit because theres worms in his brain. loss of bodily autonomy which usually happens to women and natasha being later in that journey than steve and bucky are and so close to being at peace with it but not there yet. stigmatization of seeking treatment for mental health issues lessened by the presence of sam who could have been a Macho Tough Guy but actually gives off strong Talk About Our Feelings And Be Soft vibes. don't even get me started on the relationship (predatory) between steve and rumlow and how it parallels the one between barnes and pierce (and if any of you motherfuckers BREATHE a word of that h*dra tr*sh p*rty shit in my direction i will END you) and the stigma that comes from being preyed on when vulnerable As Men. steve's depression and ptsd and him getting triggered by, yes, the fucking ALS ice bucket challenge. the collective belief that he was conscious when he was frozen even though nobody said that so that he and barnes could have that in common too. the headcanon about barnes having roma heritage - shoutout to not easily conquered my beloved, and the 14k smut coda i wrote for it✌ speaking of smut, i would be remiss also not to mention there was a STRONG element of collective lust involved. i'm immune to 99% of it bc im ace but the winter soldier was uh. VERY graceful. you know? i didn't write 14k of porn because i was uncompelled. we were on one. we went fucking crazy. fandom in general but especially big fandoms have a kind of nonstop endless well of creative energy born from obsession that is the absolute envy of people like my mortal enemy grrm. we NEVER quit.
also, HISTORY (and other vaguely educational subjects). we were all so desperate to know how steve and bucky would have lived in the years we couldn't see them it sparked a sitewide interest in 1940s american history. there was a thing about bananas tasting different now because of a plague. m&ms being invented as wartime candy. stuff about how shoebox apartments looked and how rations worked. 1940s recipes and radio shows. the 1940s queer movement and how it interacted with ballroom dancing and private drag get-togethers. how amputations work and how prosthetic limbs work in real life so we could extrapolate it to fantasy. how to hand-draw that fucking arm in photoshop. why soldiers are trained to say their serial numbers when captured. what ww2 was like. what dog tags are for. what did they get in the ration packs. what brand of cigarettes did they smoke. what brand (and i am being so serious, i STILL own a tube) of LIPSTICK did peggy carter use. caloric intake of someone with a 4x speed metabolism and how much famine peanut butter he'd need to eat daily to keep from starving to death. oppression of irish immigrants and their children/grandchildren back in the 1940s. the difference between conservatives and fascists, back when there was a difference. what activities generally took place on these mysterious but ever-present new york city docks. just exactly HOW many terrible movies and tv shows has sebastian stan been in ranked by his resemblance to james buchanan barnes in each one. (i personally went through his entire imdb list at the time and then made a venn diagram.) electroswing! teachers and professors would have killed for their classes to have the kind of enthusiasm a bunch of mentally ill teenagers and 20-somethings on tunglr dot edu were showing about this one very specific set of subjects. this film also sparked my love of fight scenes. if you've read this fic or this fic and liked the Big Fight Scenes in them, you can thank cap2 for leading me down that path.
and then yes there was also discourse. my personal most hated thing was the above mentioned h*dra tr*sh p*rty (DO NOT GOOGLE THAT, i will just tell you it's nazi rape porn🤢 and i hope everyone involved is having a bad day today) and also the fact that SOME FUCKING PEOPLE can't understand "don't be shitheads about a fanfic where the author can see you doing it." but then ofc people were also sexist about nat and racist about sam and minimalizing those guys (and every other character besides tony really but sometimes him too) for the two white male leads was a whole thing. and on the funnier side of things you had (justifiably, i suppose) bitter st*ny fans who HATED what those two got in avengers and got real mad when stucky started outpacing them on ao3. and people complaining about the characters being too uwu soft. and then other people arguing whether or not barnes counted as disabled when he was missing a Whole arm. and THEN discourse about was it ethical to remove the arm and build him a new one ESPECIALLY without his consent (if people don't know they're being ableist in their fanfics hypothetically is it still ok to kill them with hammers?) and why was tony doing it if that guy killed his parents and is it ok that we keep making tony not that mad about his dead parents is it not enough that barnes stole his limelight as the guy who gets shipped with steve but what if all three of them fucked but can you really fuck the guy who offed your folks but ACTUALLY isn't it cringe to like tony anyway since RDJ and gwenyth paltrow are bad people and who says chris evans are sebastian stan are such good people etcetcetc. and let us not even get started on the plausibility of the avengers tower fanon after age of ultron came out and it turns out nobody became friends and they all still hated and mistrusted each other. and whether or not the avengers could be considered found family if the other characters were constantly getting shafted into being barnes's little support animals. and then ofc every once in awhile one of the actors of people involved creatively would say something ranging from mildly controversial to absolutely horrible on the internet and we'd all fight about THAT for awhile like a dog with a bone. i mean. typical infighting of any fandom tbh.
but i was very happy. it was all the most enormous thought experiment and creative endeavor (and semi-educational adventure??) that we all participated in daily for like two-ish years without stopping ever. i loved doing it. AND, when you click with a piece of media like that, you also click with other people who clicked with that same piece of media, so in addition to the sheer level of dopamine going into my brain at all times i also formed decade-long friendships that will certainly last the entirety of my lifetime, and when we're in our 90s in nursing homes i will be able to say, "we are friends because i wrote 14k of smut for your fanfic" or "we are friends because i couldn't get enough of your gifsets" or whatever because you know, we quite literally went to stucky together.

The Jackalope Contract
For my account doggerthedogwatcher on Ao3, I am writing a Hannigram fic called The Jackalope Contract (with fake/pretend relationship turned real, A/B/O, and a sort of fix-it with ambiguous time setting) and a couple people asked me for what the contract looks like, so I'm going to show you guys!
There will be minor spoilers, like what Will's real name is and not-yet updating information, so go forward knowing that!
Wolfberry A. Graham & Hannibal G.D. Lecter agree to court one another as if “preparing for marriage” whilst attending their families respective weddings, affairs, and activities therefore (Graham & Petrauskas-Doukas), including the three month period before and afterwards*1. The relationship will be presented as real to all family*2, friends, and colleagues.
*1: Start Period: October 2nd, 2015 / End Period: April 23rd, 2016.
*2: Dogs (owned by W. Graham) count as family members.
Necessities and General Boundaries During Course of Contract
1. Schedules (both personal and professional) must be shared from both parties.
“Moonlighting”*1 will be added in advance and put it into their shared calendar, H. Lecter notifying W. Graham immediately if it changes.
1A) Whilst H. Lecter is hunting or prepping meat, he will not bring home anything the butcher hasn’t yet cleaned nor a still-alive animal (in which time W. Graham will keep the house without visitors). H. Lecter will make W. Graham if he is about to eat pork and not feed it to his family.
2. Boundaries involving Expectations for Work & Home Spaces.
Shall drive and show up to public*2 settings, together. H. Lecter will be responsible for taking and receiving W. Graham to work*3 on M/W/F, unless a case takes W. Graham out of state or four hours from either home, switching to W. Graham taking H. Lecter to work*4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and taking themselves on weekends.
2A) Lunch dates (every Saturday & Tuesday) are to be told to people or made obvious, though not disturbing clients, students, active crime scenes, or colleagues.
2B) Both parties must share when actions done, either in private or public spaces, are done out of true want rather than to the appeal and appearance of being believable. This should be done by bringing up flowers, for example: I want you to buy me flowers (enact action).
2C) Both parties, if uncomfortable or need actions, behavior, or words to immediately stop, shall use the terms/words Pineapple Pit, Pitters, or “Do you remember the Pits?” and the responding party shall immediately stop.
2D) During course of the contract, both parties shall remain completely exclusive*5.
2E) During the course of contract and the aftermath, H. Lecter will not use any demeaning*6, negative, or otherwise harmful language towards W. Graham. Both parties will not be dishonest, use manipulation tactics, physical violence, or otherwise harmful actions against one another.
3. Physical and Verbal Boundaries/Expectations:
In public spaces or with guests over, both parties will show physical displays of affection. This includes hand holding, quick kisses, nose and cheek kisses, arms pressed together, leaning into one another’s personal space. H. Lecter is allowed to touch W. Graham where he wants that’s not Mating Glands, private areas, and feet. All actions regarded as acceptable in use before shall remain in place, I.E.: When W. Graham grabs H. Lecter by his belt loops.
3A) Regarding physical touch unstated, both parties must ask if (in the moment) these are allowed: open-mouth kissing, touching hair, leaving marks*7, or H. Lecter using his mouth.
3B) Kissing should stick to less than five minutes and used as “Hello, Goodbye” when approaching or leaving one another, sparingly as a thank you, or after making each other laugh. No kissing at active crime scenes*8, morgues, and due to allergies or preferences, not after eating grapes or cinnamon or if H. Lecter is actively hunting.
3C) First name use of W. Graham will only take place in private spaces, where no one besides both parties or knowing individuals can hear. If W. Graham wishes, in intimate moments and if there is a conflict, it will not be used.
3D) In front of clients and colleagues who are unknowing, H. Lecter will be referred to as Doctor Lecter. In private and around closer circles, it is appropriate to use agreed upon nicknames.
4. Terms of Affection During Course of the Contract
4A) H. Lecter will be referred to as Bear, Brute, Brutus, Monster. W. Graham will be referred to as Wolf, Bambi, Deerheart, Heart, and Court. Both parties will use the terms boyfriends, fiance, partner, courting, lover, spouse, and Alpha/Omega*9 for one another.
[Key for the Jackalope Agreement:
*1: Moonlighting will be put into the shared calendar Wolf & Bear’s Private Schedules as “Sexual intercourse & intimacy time set aside to abide frustration on Bear and prove the connection the Wolf needs - can be used as time to discuss boundaries pertaining to sex.”
*2: Public Settings include offices, work environments, active crime scenes, other people’s (including families) homes, public trails, restaurants, bars, and cars. Private Space includes both parties’ main residences and claimed “safe places” that will begin to adapt each other into.
*3: Wolfberry Graham works at FBI Quantico Headquarters & Academy as a Professor, FBI Profiler, FBI Special Instructor.
*4: Hannibal Lecters works at Re-Building: Where the Healing Begins as a Psychiatrist.
*5: Exclusivity includes no flirting, no kissing, no non-platonic hand-holding, no sex or otherwise deemed romantic connection or approach to anyone else outside of both parties.
*6: Demeaning and Degrading Verbage or Actions includes talking down to, forcing submission, any negative and commonly used pet-names (though, indicated that the ones H. Lecter already uses is allowed to sustain), excessively used physical descriptions, hair-pulling, insults, and such calling as “bad boy, kiddo, pupmill”. Note that compliments, praising, and otherwise positive actions will not be shut down but will refrain from physical descriptions.
*7: Marks should be asked about and never randomly placed. Acceptable Ones (where it would be unable to be seen in work environments) includes bite marks, bruises, hickies, scratch marks, and knife marks.
*8: Active Crime Scenes mean where police tap or team members are still working.
*9: Alphan and Omegan Titles and Acts include when there is a presented challenge, in front of Pack Heads or otherwise important and indicated pack members.]

angelicgentleman asked: 1, 2, and 3 from "canon questionare." for the multiple Leviathan class lifeforms on the blog! ; canon questionare. 1. What made you pick up this character? 2. How did you get into this franchise/fandom? 3. What’s the best thing about the show/series/books/comics/etc.?
it originally started with T'iamat, but ended up growing to four more muses to add! something about her being a sentient sort of "anti-boss" character you meet in the game was just icing on the cake. and how she speaks to you, plus reading her whole story? you feel sympathy for what she had gone through. her entire story was essentially over a thousand years of being a self-made puppy mill. then over time, once i finished the game and kept playing on my own, i picked up more ideas on what these creatures could be. like, what if they were also sentient? and could speak telepathically? or had different worlds you could really put yourself into when swimming with them? just stuff like that is... huge to me. the possibilities of what else could be discovered in the world of Subnautica.
the game was bought for me YEARS ago when it was in early access. roughly around 2015-2016? and i knew of the game, but didnt have the proper specs to actually run it, unfortunately. but i learned more of the lore w/ @f--hawk some months ago and finally pushed myself to actually play it a couple of months ago. it was absolutely worth playing on my own and i even recorded some funny clips (some of which were made into a simple video i crafted together in an hour :P). never regretted getting into it. its SO much fun - it was like rediscovering minecraft!
the atmosphere and music. my god, i was... in absolute awe. every part of the world was so goddamn pretty. it was easily like rewatching Finding Nemo (it used to be my favorite movie as a toddler for a long time) and just looking out into the ocean. the horrors of it are just as beautiful as its outside view. the music itself was so relaxing and so beautiful to hear; easily one of the most PERFECT soundtracks to sleep to. i loved everything about it! but the scenery sold it for me.
#angelicgentleman#// *ill praise Subnautica as being one of the most prettiest games. easily up there with Minecraft with the potential of silliness#// *and building stuff#// *i LOVED IT#🐺 * 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐒 : out of character#🐺 * 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐒 : ask answered

Currently Obsessing Over, Debrief No.3: All Hail Queen Vivienne Westwood & Here’s to her Eternal Reign
-Vivienne photographed in June 2012-
“Fashion: I really love doing it. It’s really a kind of lifeline to me. It’s recharging my batteries. It’s exciting. I love what we’re doing, and I think the next thing we are doing is the best thing I have ever done. Because it’s totally political.”

Look, I am far from a royalist but as London Fashion Week draws to a close, the weekend saw a who’s who of the fashion mourn a Queen of the people whose crowning would’ve truly made me reconsider my position. It goes without saying that the impact Vivienne Westwood has had on both her contemporaries and a younger generation of up and coming designers is monumental, but above and beyond that, what made her such an incredible individual was the consistency with which she stuck to her principles over the years and championed a fairer world, free of structural barriers, discrimination and the destructive force of rampant capitalism on the earth.

She didn’t have to be That Bitch, in an industry which too often actively worked and continues to work against her goals, but she did at risk to her own success, and she made some fucking incredible clothes whilst she was at it.
Vivienne had every capability of being a thorn in the side of the industry figureheads operating business models domineered by overconsumption and yet her legacy will outlive every trend cycle imaginable ten to the dozen, reminding us that above all, principles & passion are the best thing we have if we want to truly make in impact.
-12 Emerging Designers on How Vivienne Westwood Inspired Them, AnOther Magazine, Autumn/Winter 2021 issue-
-”Pirates” collection, 1981: Though by this point Vivienne had already established a name for herself within the industry, namely through the widespread popularity of the Chelsea boutique she opened with partner Malcolm McLaren in 1971 and her work styling the Sex Pistols, whom McLaren managed, it wasn’t until a decade later that she made her runway debut with her “Pirates” collection. And you know what? She was so right for that. These are men who sail the world in pursuit of Jewells, ffs. How historically accurate that statement is, I have no clue; Peter Pan probably isn’t the best frame of reference. All I know is that ruffles and Jewells and big hats and bold patterns are absolutely my cup of tea and all those of us girlies with a preference for maximalism owe Vivienne Westwood a thank you for helping the stiff upper lipped power players of that period realise that.-
-”Britain Must Go Pagan” collection, S/S98 RTW-

-Arguably, the early years of Vivienne’s runway residency was characterised by a consistent drive to dissect, explore, and push the boundaries of the fashion of bygone eras through her work in a provocative, tongue in cheek kind of way, but one that ultimately showed her knowledge and love of fashion. Her flirtation with the whimsical, ethereal hallmarks of romantic period dressing and references to the costume-like decadence associated with the nobility and wealth of the post-renaissance world helped to torpedo a giant, jagged hole through the perfectly polished wall high fashion had built around itself to retain its status as an interest reserved for the privileged.
Vivienne’s growing cultural relevance occurred in the midst of the 90s grunge movement that banished the illusion everything had to be perfectly refined at all times, and championed the gaudy, the over the top, the playful, controversial and performative. This time, counterculture was unruly, broody, and intentionally unyielding in a way that closely harked back to the values of the ‘70s London punk scene where VW had started out, and so it makes sense that interest in her work grew given the position her clothing came to be associated with in this decade
I don’t claim to be enough of a fashion expert to know the complete history of costume piece inspired designers and to be able to say Vivienne was the very first to bring this subversion of the expectation to appear aloof, elegant, and let’s be honest, occasionally boring as fuck, to the runway through her exploration of period clothing but she has to be one of the first to bring such a playfulness to it and her collections at the time certainly helped to reignite the childhood desire that exists in every person interested in fashion to play dress up.-

-She further developed her brand’s reputation as a disruptor of the status quo in a time which saw young people in the Western world grow tired of the straight laced conservatism of the Thatcher/Reagan (forget Charlie Kelly and Frank Reynolds, these 2 were the OG gruesome twosome) and the tastemakers of the fashion world followed suit, lauding her work. As much as the impact of massive industry players is portrayed as having a trickle down effect (see what I did there) on the trend cycle, designers inevitably draw inspiration from the current social climate whether acknowledged or not and in this way the aesthetics adopted by boots on the ground, the influence of art and pop culture, makes its way back up to the runway where the Anna Wintours of the world have to like it. For people like Vivienne Westwood, Rei Kawakubo (founder of Commes Des Garcons), Ann Demeulemeester, and Yohji Yamamoto, who occupied much of the same avant-garde, anti-establishment scene from the ‘70s onwards with all 3 having been customers at Vivienne’s boutique and setting up shop in London at one point or another, incorporating that disruptive spirit probably felt like a return to their roots as designers.-

-In this period where anti-fashion established itself as an integral part of what was decidedly “in”-fashion, new roots, which would go on to produce some of today’s boldest designers, buried themselves deep and inevitably soaked up Vivienne and her contemporaries’ celebration of androgyny, experimentation with subversive silhouettes and prints, and embrace of the dark and dramatic to tell stories through their styling which served as the antidote to the immaculate coordination of looks showcased by fashion giants like Chanel. Vivienne collections managed to grasp hold of the psyches of even the most prestigious designers, and the lasting effects were visible in the heavily period themed, almost theatrical collections, the debuts of which broke the expected mould for labels traditionally associated with a sense of refinement and/or glamour. That Donatella Versace, for example, would draw influence from punk aesthetics is unexpected but once you’re aware she’s expressed her admiration for Vivienne Westwood, there are a number of Versace collections over the years where you can’t unsee that inspiration. John Galliano was known to sit front row at her shows! John Galliano. That, baby, is one mighty flex.-

-You could argue the prevalence of Westwood gowns amongst the rich and famous is kinda antithetic to its founder’s manifesto but we can’t be delusional and forget it’s a high fashion label we’re talking about and well, a business. Ultimately the craftsmanship and time which goes into original designs means red carpet photos are probs the closest 99% of us are gonna get but I’ll take it. I’m thirsty. Helena Bonham-Carter, one of the many prominent figures in attendance at Vivienne’s funeral, kinda symbolises the dichotomy; as much as her public image is of her as someone who exists outside the boundaries imposed by a privileged, aloof, very airbrushed elite, we are talking a woman with a double-barrelled family name which carries with it the exactly the kind of wealth and lineage you’d expect it to. But at the same time, she is someone who has chosen to break away from the expectations set upon her by this kind of background and do things her own way. Not so much so that her whole mismatched, slightly dishevelled whilst simultaneously very cool outer appearance isn’t made up of expensive, designer subcomponents, but if you’re going to have some brand loyalty, Helena being a Vivienne simp feels correct:
“I have an obscene amount, a sinful amount of her clothes. Decades’ worth. She wouldn’t like it, given she was always telling us to buy less.” Helena recalled buying her first pirate shirt, aged 15, from Westwood’s shop in World’s End “so I could be Adam Ant.” She explained how she once reprimanded a red-carpet journalist who asked why she always wore Westwood, because it was always “the same, same, same.” Bonham Carter replied: “No, no, no…. You have no idea how many ideas and choices have gone into this dress. She is never boring. And the dresses do all the work. All the actresses on this red carpet haven’t eaten for weeks—and I have had a full-fat English breakfast.” Of wearing Westwood she said: “I feel like who I want to be. I feel like a woman…. She has given me my armor to face the world for so many years.” She added: “Thank you for the cutting, the draping that makes your clothes so dynamic and alive, so much so that I wouldn’t be surprised to wake in the night and find them dancing in my closet, alive.”

-You can’t talk about Vivienne’s impact on street style and its adoption by today's anti-it girl (which in itself has made her kinda the ultimate it-girl in my eyes, lmao) without a section dedicated to FKA Twigs, whose love of the designer is evident in her ethereal take on ‘90s grunge inspired fashion. If anyone doubts the existence of Vivienne’s influence on Twigs’ street style, may I gift you with knowledge that she included an absolutely STUNNNNINGGG feature about her whole COLLECTION of VW corsets in her zine. Money can’t buy you happiness but it can buy you archival designer pieces by the Grand Dame of Punk (no, I’m not talking about Karen from RHoP) and the ability to circumvent a year long waiting list for treatment of your ailments on the NHS sooo I mean…we’re talking substantial quality of life improvements here.-

-Vivienne Westwood’s “Portraits” collection, 1991-
-You really can’t talk about the common appeal of Vivienne Westwood and the label’s legacy without an acknowledgement of the irreverence of the Portraits collection, which most likely constitutes the strongest imagery of the brand in most people’s minds. For all that rambling on I did about her challenging fashion conventions, the corset is probably, like, one of the most stereotypically feminine garments out there, and so it seems contradictory that it’s probably the most famous VW piece. That being said, you just have to look at the earliest prominent iteration of the staple showcased in Portraits; the way the shape was utilised flew in the face of all that was conventional and “demure” through its combination with religious iconography, micro skirts and nude illusion cut outs, in the ‘80s ffs, so need I say more about what it is that made it so groundbreaking? It was a moment that was emblematic of the middle finger to the world attitude that Vivienne’s collections are known for, and which makes it such an iconic, and true to brand piece that is still loved, emulated, and collected by a very lucky few today.-
-Vivienne Westwood RTW S/S 2023-
-It’s only half the picture to say Vivienne’s participation in the fashion industry contradicts her personal politics, which completely ignores how much of her fortune has been redistributed through her activism over the years; to advocate for her brand is to advocate for the anti establishment mission she has made an inextricable part of it, which over the past few decades has ranged from her vocal commitment to fighting climate change, her stance on sustainability, her support of Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange, and notably her Ethical Fashion Africa campaign, shots from which feature below.-
-Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood RTW, clockwise L-R: S/S 2008, S/S 2007, S/S 2019, “-

-”, top L-R: RTW S/S 2006, RTW F/W 2014, & bottom: RTW S/S 2023-
Ending with the content Vivienne would most likely find to be closest to her heart is a reflection on the Andreas Kronlather for Vivienne Westwood, surely the purest form of her punk spirit that will go on without her. Undeniably, Vivienne has had no greater influence on anyone than her husband, Andreas, with whom she publicly entrusted the more affordable offshoot of her brand, and whose creative relationship first began when he began working under her wing in the late ‘80s. They were artistic geniuses, revolutionaries, and basically the much more aspirational version of the rockstar bf/gf model bc/gf duo. Above all they were cutie pies<3

-”, L-R: RTW S/S 2017, RTW S/S 2009, RTW F/W 2016-
Though for the majority of the 30+ years they spent collaborating Andreas chose to be a silent contributor, the name change of the red label offshoot to Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood was the clear realisation of his journey in becoming an equal partner and suggests that over time, the direction of influence evolved from the latter over the former to a much more reciprocal force.

I’m going to get real cheesy here but I have to say it: there is no doubt that whilst he continues to showcase his designs, Vivienne’s presence in the industry will not cease to be felt. Regardless-we’ll miss you anyways, Queen.-

Is this a video about Breadtube? Is it a reaction video to Philosophy Tube / Abigail Thorn and her video about coming out as trans? Is it a reaction video to myself? Is there such a thing as objectivity? Is there hope for joy in the wake of postmodernism? Can YouTubers really fill the role of educators? If not, can I still join in the party of making fun of conservative nonsense from Ben Shapiro and PragerU? Please?

Most people probably think of Marco as a spoiled rich boy, heir to a family considered to be racing royalty, and in many ways they are not wrong. Fame and fortune have been his from an early age with opportunities available to him that most of us can only dream of. Always somewhat shy and introverted, he was bullied in school for not being like his famous father and grandfather, the first time he felt the pressure of his family name. It wouldn’t be the last.
He began as most drivers do, racing go-karts at a local track at the age of 8. Three years later, his father pulled him out of racing, feeling the that stress and pressure was too much for him. A year later he was back racing at a different track. And winning. And he continued to win as he rose through the junior racing categories. At just barely 19 years old, he began his rookie season in Indycar. His career has been filled with near misses and what could have beens, most of them largely out of Marco’s control. Whispers of unfulfilled potential have plagued him for years.
As if this wasn’t enough angst for one man, tragedy and accidents have stuck some of those closest to him. Dan Weldon’s death devastated him. Dan had been a friend and like a big brother to Marco, looking out for him. A few years later, another terrible crash would force Marco’s honorary uncle Dario Franchitti to retire. And then he nearly lost one of his best friends, James Hinchcliffe. Marco was there when James woke in the hospital and still has the piece of paper James used to ask questions.
Off track, Marco is generous with his friends. His home is almost always open to them. He gave Conor Daly $3k for testing, no strings attached, enabling Conor to land his first Indycar ride. (James Hinchcliffe also contributed.) Conor has referred to something called ‘Wine Wednesdays” at Marco’s house. Caymus is Marco’s favorite brand.
In 2010, Marco purchased his childhood home from his father, first built in 1986. He also bought much of the furniture and décor back from his mother, all things she had received after divorcing Marco’s father in 1996, restoring it to the way it had been when he was a child.
In 2021, Marco transitioned to running only the Indy 500, the race win that had eluded him and his father their entire careers, deciding to focus all his efforts on that one race. This also freed up time for him to pursue other forms of racing. He won the 2022 SRX championship and has run a few NASCAR races.
The Andretti curse – explaining this would take a post all by itself so I will offer these sites to explain. The 'Andretti Curse' Andretti curse
Fanfic Lore
Good friends with James Hinchcliffe, Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly. The four could be considered a 'band of brothers’ and he is often paired with one (or several) of the others of the band.
Also paired with Graham Rahal, as they grew up together in the paddock, both of their fathers racing at the same time. Relationship is antagonistic at times from Graham's side.
To be honest, it might be easier to list who Marco has NOT been paired with. He is sometimes referred to as the ‘paddock bike’. (Because everyone has taken him for a ride.)
Historically paired with Dan Wheldon (sometimes as more of a big brother/little brother relationship), Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, Bryan Herta, sometimes in groups.
Often considered a ‘woobie’ or a character that writers love to abuse.
