    The reasoning itself felt silly. To a normal man, or one who wasn't religious, ex-communicated for tampering with the Catholic Church's reputation for a botched exorcism was insulting. Painfully so for John, and he knew from an outside perspective, it was bad. To his own experiences, it was real, but could not be expressed unless one really saw the UNSPEAKABLE on that day ...

    ❝ ... are they now?❞ He asked. ❝It explains ... the odd sense of power in this place. And these trees seem to be changing each time I turn. Like ... dolls.❞ A shudder with shivering shoulders. ❝I trust you can find a path out of here. If not, I have some light that I shall provide if these woods can ... hide the sun.❞

"Ex-priest?" Robin echoed softly, wondering then why the man seemed to still be dressed in a Father's clothes. Maybe it was a fresh ex-communication?

Then again, she knew next to nothing about the religions outside of the one her mother had practiced. There was information to be gleaned from old books, or from the panicked prayers of those who got lost within the Woods... But still.

While John was curious, Robin was happy to reveal what she knew, as long as he didn't use it to claim she was insane. It had happened before... Men snarling back at her that she was just some loony hermit, and that Hell would find her sooner or later. Then they would run away, and she would find their skeletons or ruined corpses in the Woods later.

"The kami, in a sense, are the forest itself." The shifter spoke once again, pushing a branch up out of her way. "They can easily manipulate the paths, make it so you go in circles or fall into a large pitfall that wasn't there before. Mostly, it lures you into awaiting mouths to be fed."

Didn't some of these trees look like they had grinning maws in their trunks...?

Fuego went on. “My city loves me. I am their hero, as they call me. The only ones who don’t like me are… criminals, but I can’t think of anyone who would want me to die.”
