F is For Family (S02E03) The Liars Club Airdate: May 30, 2017 @fisforfamily Ratings: @netflix Original Privatized Ratings Score: 8.75/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********* One thing I've never been accused of is being un-empathetic, at least not since a bit after high school anyway... It is quite possible I may have had some sort of horrible God complex like most did in their early stages of adulthood. I often question why I treated people certain ways or did things that I did. Not knowing any better really isn't a good answer. Sure, empathy is a trait you hone and grow into as you age and experience life's many different heartaches, but its also true that it does come naturally, eventually anyway. Sometimes there's just something inside you that literally allows you to cosmically switch shoes with someone in a blink of an eye... At times I can be so sensitive to other people's energy that I adopt their general mood or disposition. I know I'm not the only one, but I think there's a select few of us that had a very distinct opportunity to experience as much as humanly possible and it shapes the way we see the world. As a young, developing adult, I wanted to be as street smart as I was book smart. For me, you couldn't just have one without the other or else you opened yourself up for great windows of ignorance. I purposefully put myself in awkward and dangerous positions. Sometimes I'd even travel great distances with nothing but a few hundred bucks in my pocket and an eagerness to connect with others in any way possible, hoping it would somehow shape my maturity, worldliness, and understanding. I'd end up homeless, reveling in it, attempting to draw as much as possible from the experience instead of focusing on removing myself from a bad situation. Homelessness wasn't the only thing... I had to see, feel, and try everything I could, because for me, perspective was everything... And even as a wiser adult (with still so much to learn), it still is. There was a large stint in my life where I was unemployed like Frank (Bill Burr). I allowed my core values and self-importance to destroy good things happening in my life. I always tell people this who are thinking of quitting their job on a whim or reacting off of strong emotion, or even those needing a dose of reality in confirmation form. When you have a job, everyone wants you. It's easy to find work when it's not a necessity, but when you find yourself in a position, like Frank where you're forced to take what you can get, suddenly nobody is in a giving mood. It's one of life's dirty little tricks, and if you don't believe me... Try it out. No, no, please don't, seriously. I wouldn't wish what Frank is going through on my worst enemy. I've been there and it doesn't feel good. Frank has been blacklisted by his boss throughout most airlines as an undesirable, no matter how qualified for the position he may be. Sure, there is pride involved. I saw a commenter call it 'toxic masculinity'. I understand the concept of 'toxic masculinity' and the harmful psychological effects it has on men and women within society. Even though this particular string of events happen p in the 70's, a better, more accurate example of 'toxic masculinity' would be the misogyny that Sue (Laura Dern) is dealing with in her stifling, unhealthy office space... Not Frank's unwillingness to break down and accept a handout from the government, or filter through jobs that he deems compromising or humiliating to his experience and very specific set of skills. I don't think there's anything 'toxic' about the drive to provide for your family... Or the desire Frank has to actually do what he's trained to do, what he's good at, and what he can potentially make the most money doing. If anything this is human in nature, not exclusive to the ideals of masculinity. When we talk about ego, there's definitely a split on how both genders handle things... Why each gender may protect certain aspects, attack issues in a particular manner or prioritize ideals more than they do others; but ultimately as human beings, at the end of the day, we all want to count. We all want to do our part in protecting and providing for the ones we love. Even in the 70's, where male ignorance and patriarchal control reigned supreme, as continuously displayed in Sue's ongoing story arc... i.e. 'I'd like to put some mustard on her sandwich', Sue is now head of her household and must assume the role of lead 'bread winner' and only working spouse. She wrestles with earning the respect of a group of men who rule over her company like a bunch of primitive primates and a woman who gives into the ideas of that sexually charged, insult driven, 'toxic masculinity' to maintain her position by acting like 'one of the boys'). Ultimately, they don't even deserve Sue's respect. We are seeing Sue, as a character, show signs of defying what a woman's role is in the 1970's. Honestly, this is one of the most endearing spots of S2 so far, Sue's drive is inspiring... Even though she's constantly pulled down and made to feel less than human, she wades through a cesspool of humiliation and depression because her family is counting on her. Sue pushes on because she must. She knows she has no choice, but this isn't about that... This is about maintaining her family, and clearly Sue is not afraid to step up to the plate, though it does take a lot out of her emotionally and physically as well. She looks to Frank to do the same, and as hard as everyone wants to be on Frank, I have to put my hand out here. I find it hard to believe that this many people have never found themselves in a situation even remotely similar to Frank's. His embarrassing breakdown during Maureen's (Debi Derryberry) 'Honeybee Troupe' meeting was comical and a great way to tackle these sensitive subjects with a cheeky wink and irreverent humor... But don't let that waggish satire cloud that sense of relatability and empathy with Frank. The follow-up scene that contrasts that similar humorous moment with an embarrassing private period of candid vulnerability where Kevin (Justin Long) catches his father sobbing and verbally exclaiming that he 'fucked up' as he breaks down on the living room floor had me torn. This is almost like an instance of 'talking to god', where you're completely letting your weaknesses and insecurities boil over to where you're simultaneously falling apart and attempting to find a way to cathartically push on... And then boom... One of the people that you go out of your way to always make sure they see you in a position of control sees you completely helpless. Frank springs into action and attempts to show Kevin he's still a man who can solve problems by attempting to create a space for Kevin to have private moments for himself, freedom to grow without being cramped by his younger brother, Bill (Haley Reinhardt), his constant hovering and a instinctive drive that is very similar to that of Sue's that annoys Kevin's apathetic teenage sensibilities. Kevin is gracious towards his father at first, but he hears Frank lie to his mother... And that doesn't exactly sit well with Kevin, especially since it was Kevin who was outed for skipping school and Frank then used his authority to keep his own lie going about keeping with his assumed responsibilities at the Unemployment Office. Any headway Frank made with his eldest son was destroyed in that moment. Kevin remains silent and allows the moment to remain uncontested, but the damage has been done. Obviously animated series rarely inspire this sort of impassioned article from me. 'F is For Family' is an extremely special and 'one-of-a-kind' show that really takes all my favorite elements of any type or genre of series and turns up the existential volume to full blast. Michael Price and Bill Burr have literally created my dream series in animated form. With each episode, I become more and more appreciative of what this show is at it's core. When people put their heart & soul, their blood, swear & tears into their work, it shows. People see that, they react to it, even if they don't completely understand it's value right away. I continue to take my time w/'F is For Family'. Netflix has already renewed the series for S3, there's no longer a need to rush through the episodes, and to be honest... Rushing through a show this earnest and intricately nuance is only doing it a disservice. Netflix may have reinvented the way we watch television, allowing for binge sessions, and all-night marathons... But 'F is For Family' provides us an exceptional antidote for that new style of consuming entertainment, calling for the series to be sipped like a fine wine, even promoting repeat viewings of episodes so that the series can truly be honored for everything that it is. Great job guys, I can't praise this one enough.

You've spent most of your adult life in and out of war zones, and you've worked with the US military to identify terrorists and dead GIs. Sick of all the death and pain you chose to leave fieldwork and go back to historical research. When your little Brother leaves the Marines and settles in a small town, you decide to follow him. Will you find a home in your small, underfunded Museum job and your Brother's found family? Or will life with the Club just be another war zone?

"Jax, he's in Ireland."

"What?" Jax took the phone from your hand and looked over the photo, he handed it back before throwing a glass at the wall.

"Fucking dirty lair." Chibs sounded very angry.

"Let me guess, Jimmy'o said he was still here?"

Jax sucked on his tongue, "yeah he did."

He was still in a rage, "Jax, take a breath. We need to figure out if he lied because the rumour was true and he was working with him to remove the kings or for another reason. He's back in Ireland now, right?"

He nodded, "yeah."

He went outside, you imagine to go and smoke, "I'm sure the Irish will be calling soon. You have a big problem on your hands, let's hope you're not about to be asked to help first-hand because no one here can leave the country."

Jax came back in a little calmer, "when did Billy get this?"

You looked at the text, "right before he called me, the body has to be pretty fresh, I'm still waiting on news from the cops over there but that could take a lot longer." Jax put a hand on the back of your neck and pulled you in for a kiss.

"Thanks Darlin. Head home, I'll be there before you go to bed." With one last kiss, you left.

Jax wasn't home before you went to bed, you were just falling asleep when you heard him come in and climb into the shower before shifting the covers and settling next to you.

"Sorry I'm late, Clay wanted us to stay back to wait for the Irish to call."

You rolled over into his arms, "it's ok my love, are you still meeting the Bastards tomorrow?"

He pressed his face into your shoulder and breathed in the smell of your conditioner, "yeah. Good night y/n, I love you."

"Good night beloved, I love you too."

"It's been a long time since we've had this kind of weight in our backyard brother."

Jax wasn't impressed with how Clay was dealing with his, "maybe we can get some MP5s."

Nevertheless, T.O smiled, "that will work."

With a hug and handshakes the deal was done just as the Irish pulled up, "Did you ask Jimmy about the photo?"

Luke didn't seem worried about the lie Jimmy told, 'aye, he said he had no idea Cammy could even get into IRA territory, he must have done it through one of his old contacts."

"We need details, the man who's been selling us guns for months has just turned up dead and the only person with answers won't talk." Luke's excuse about the army wasn't going to fly.

"Do you have kids?" Luke shook his head, "then you don't know shit about sorry asshole." Bobby and Opie pulled Jax away and Luke promised to try harder to get more information before handing them their new guns.

"Hey Mr Madock, how are you feeling today?"

He was looking around, "where's Rose?"

You put a hand on his shoulder, "I think she's at the store, I'm sure she'll be back soon. Can I get you something to eat?"

He waved over at the fridge, "I'll take a sandwich if you're offering."

You finished putting it together just as the nurse walked in, "how long before he's ready to leave?"

She seemed sad, "he moves out tomorrow."

Gemma was in one of the rooms packing, "We should take some of his favourite figures with him, the home's good enough that it should have a display case in his room."

She nodded, "yeah, I think he'd like that."

You put the sandwich on the table and sat next to him, "I notice your how many statutes you have around, do you have a favourite?"

He put the food down and got up, walking over to point out some of them, "but this one is Rose's favourite." He sat back down and went back to eating, you were sure Gemma would be happy to let them go with her father.

You went into the other room to help Gemma pack, she was stuck hard onto the bed, looking through a photo album. "Is everything ok?"

She shook her head, "all of these things are going to be packed in boxes and giving away, his whole life is here."

You sat next to her, looking over the photos, "things aren't what matters, people are. It's not like he's dead Gemma, he's just going somewhere he can be looked after."

She gave you a sad smile, "how do you always know what to say." You reflected that pain in her face.

"I've seen more human wreckage and suffering than any person should, it's given me an insight I wish I didn't have." She rested her head on your shoulder and you lifted a hand to rub her head, "it's going to be ok Gem, everything works itself out in the end."

Jax couldn't believe it, Clay had basically sold Ima and Lyla to Lin for the day to get more guns. He could hear you going on a righteous rant in his head, something about humans not being things to be bought and sold for a gain. There were days when he hated Clay.

But they had the guns and Lin was happy with the arrangement, so it was another thing to put in a box, he hoped Ima would look him in the face when he got home that night. "Are you ok with this? I know neither of them want to work with men?"

Sam shrugged, "it's her choice, and I don't care what she does or doesn't do at work. You seem to forget I was raised my y/n, she'd kick the shit out of me if I had a problem with it."

Jax nodded, "yeah I guess, if it had been up to me, it wouldn't be happening."

Sam's face changed, "but it's not. Don't you have an issue with all of this. Black men can't join the Club but we can use them for our own means, we're in the dark ages Jax, sooner or later that's going to kill us."

Jax knew Sam was telling the truth, "what is it that your sister says, I'm just waiting for all the old bigots to die so you guys can change things?"

Sam huffed, "yeah, you know she won't stay if you don't change things when you take over. She's going to expect you to do better than you stepfather."

Jax took a solemn breath, sometimes he wished you weren't so moral, "I know I wouldn't expect any less from her."

Just as he was about to say something else, Clay got a call, it was the Irish kings. The conversation was hushed and Clay seemed angry, there was a mention of Belfast overstepping and doing bitch work. But it didn't matter, when Clay got off the phone, he was telling everyone to ride back to T-M for church.

"Belfast has dropped us in at the deep end, what's going on with Jimmy'o isn't clear and they don't want to put out the hit until they're sure. The Kings want us to handle it."

Jax shook his head, "this is my problem, Cameron hit my family, I should be the one to deal with it."

Clay shook his head, "your family is our family, son. This falls on us just as much as it does you. I've told them we won't be going until we have all our buyers sorted here, which will be at least two weeks."

"If we all go we look guilty, I can't ask you guys to take that hit."

Clay smiled, "but I can. Who's up for in Irish adventure?"

All the hands around the table went up with a cheer, "you're all very unbalanced individuals."

They exited the Clubhouse and Opie went up to Lyla, Jax watched the conversation from afar, Lyla seemed ok, but he could see Opie getting stiffer as it continued. He didn't blame him, Jax wasn't happy about it either, but there was no reasoning with Clay.

"I just don't want you to end up sad."

Lyla shook her head, "how can I be sad, you're my guy." They watched on as they kissed, cheering like children as it got more heated.

Opie pulled away and walked over, "you guys seemed to be working things out."

Opie shrugged, "I don't know, every time I try to talk to her, we end up naked."

Bobby laughed, "just marry her, that will fix it."

"Is that your speech for the town meeting?"

You nodded, "yep, I'm just putting on the finishing touches. It's going to make it every clear that Hale has no place in the town." Gemma sat down next to you, "Nate leaves in the morning right?"

She nodded, "yeah he known he was going for a while but he just can't seem to accept it."

You put a hand on your shoulder, "that's normal, once he settles into a routine it will be much easier."

She sighed, "how do you stay on top of everything? You should be at home resting and you're helping me. You've been working your ass off for the Club, and you still find the time to look after Abel."

You shrugged, "I like to keep busy, if I wasn't here, I'd be at home doing paperwork."

She smiled, "come one, dad wants to make you his famous rice pudding."

"Hello Mayor."

Oswald smiled, "not yet."

Clay stuck his hand out, "we need a favour."

Oswald crossed his arms over his chest, "does this have anything to do with your boy?"

Jax nodded, "yeah, the guy who almost took him is in Ireland, we need help getting out."

Oswald shook his head, "I can't, even with everything that happened with Hale, he's still got support. I'm sorry, but if you want to be Charming a small town, I can't be seen to help you guys until these gun charges are gone."

Clay didn't seem happy with that, but he accepted it, "well when you need us, we'll be here."

With that done, they left to go to the party with the Chinese. Jax was sitting outside smoking, it's not that he didn't find the women inside attractive, but he only had eyes for you. Sam wandered out and sat by him, taking a puff from the joint that Jax handed him.

"Why aren't you inside?"

Sam shrugged, "I don't need to see it, they're safe with the others guys around." A quiet feeling over the two men, "I don't like that Clay put them in this position."

Jax nodded, "neither do I." Jax didn't know what to say or do, since Sam read his father's manuscript, Sam had been more and more restless for change.

Jax didn't blame him, he wanted the same thing too. The truth is, Jax was waiting for Sam to take him into an alleyway and beat the shit out of him for even looking at you. He would wake up every morning to your sweet voice and walk into the kitchen with breakfast done and Abel cooing in someone's arms and wonder how this became his life.

"There's no other shoe Jax, stop fretting."

Jax huffed a laugh, "so why does it always feel there is."

Sam's answer was dry, "PTSD." Jax didn't know what to say to that, "come on, we better head inside before y/n's spidey senses start to tingle."

As Sam walked in, Jax paused to call you, "hello Jackson, it's good to hear your voice."

He smiled, "hey Darlin, how are things over there?"

He could already feel the tension melting away, "good, slow but good. Are you guys coming to the town meeting tomorrow?"

Jax wouldn't miss it for the world, "yep, we've all cast bets to see how long it takes you to reduce Hale to tears."

Your laugh made him forget how stressed he was, "not long I hope."

He shook his head, "I got to go pretty girl, I just wanted to check in."

He swore he could hear your smile, "well, aren't you a gentleman."

"I love you y/n."

"I love you too Jax."

Jax hung up and went inside only to be greeted by a scene he didn't really want to see, he went to the bar and got himself a beer, then buried himself in a conversation away from what was happening behind him.

Opie walked over looking sad, but Jax did his best to distract him, "I'm sorry it's turned out this way bro, this never would have happened if I had any say."

Opie shrugged, "but you didn't have a say, Clay has been talking matters into his own hands far too often."

"I know, but his hands are failing, I can't see him staying on my longer after we go inside."

"I hope you're right Jax, because he's going to ruin everything we've built if it keeps going like this."

When you got home, Jax was already there. "You're home early?"

He pulled you into his arms, "the party went by without a hitch. The Chinese came through so the Bastards have their MP5s."

You knew something was wrong by the tone of his voice, "what's wrong dear?"

He shrugged, "more problems with Clay?"

He nodded softly, "yeah, he's a bit of a pig."

You gave him a strange look, "I know, and I know what's got you so upset. If you're worried about Ima and Lyla talk to them. I know Ima would appreciate hearing for you that you don't think she's a dirty whore for earning a living."

Jax huffed, "I forget you don't mince words."

He pressed a kiss to the side of his head, "you wanna order take out tonight?"

You nodded, "sure, I'll go ask Sam and Ima what they want, you good with pizza?"

He nodded, "great, I'll make sure to get you extra ham."

Jax raised his eyebrows, "what, you don't think I notice that whenever we get pizza, you eye the pieces with the most meat."

He laughed, "I love you so much."

You pecked the tip of his nose, "I love you too."

You were laying in bed next to Jax, his leg rested over yours, "I finished your book."

He watched your smile spread over your face, "really what did you think?" He put a hand on your side, his thumb rubbing back and forth.

"I really liked it, you're really smart."

You could sense he was about to be self-deprecating, "don't sell yourself short Jax. You have read all my papers and understand them fine, there are people with multiple PhDs who can't do that. For an ok mechanic with a GED, you can handle yourself fine. Now I won't have you insulting your own intelligence."

He squeezed your side, "you mean that?"

You turned and put a hand on his leg, "I don't say things I don't mean Jackson. You should know that by now."

He put his forehead on yours, "how did I get so lucky."

You leaned in to kiss him, the press of your lips slow and soft, "it's not luck Jackson, I love you."

He rolled on top of you, since the day you got shot, he's been treating you like you're made of glass.

"Are you sure you're up for this?" You nodded, "I once got blown up and ended up with four broken ribs, then went on an op a day later where I got into a fist fight with a guy Opie's size and I was fine. I'm a lot tougher than I look, plus, I miss you terribly."

He kissed your neck, his lips soft against your skin while his beard tickled you. You sat up and pulled your shirt over his head, Jax's hand coming to touch the border of the bandage over your ribs, "it doesn't hurt, don't worry. However, it's starting the heal so the stitches are itching like a motherfucker."

He reached down and removed your panties, sliding them off your legs and throwing them somewhere in the room. His lips kissed from shoulder dome to shoulder dome and down your chest. His thumb stroked the scar just under your navel.

"How did you get this one?"

"Knife fight with a guy with one eye, I think he was aiming for a stab and not a slash."

He was pulled away from his memory by your hands in his hair. He kissed down your body, reaching your mound with soft lips and a gentle breath. He lifted your legs onto his back and you settled against the pillows, reaching one hand down to wind in his.

He started small, pressing gentle kisses to your slit while his free hand held you open for him. You gasped when he pulled your clit into his mouth and sucked, his groan shuddering your body. He kept with the soft touches until you were squeezing his hand with bearly restrained force, then he was sliding two fingers inside you and bending them up to rub your G-spot.

Jax took in every one of your whimpers and moans, if you could hear his thoughts, you would tell him he had an ego. He kept a steady pace as you reached the edge, only speeding up when your legs shook around his head.

"Jax…. Oh my God, please."

His thumb replaced his mouth as he lifted his head, "I know sweet girl, I'm here." He put his mouth back on you just as you feel off the edge, squeezing him over and over again. He pulled his fingers out and kissed up your body, "you good?"

You brought your hands to his cheeks, and he turned his head to kiss your palm, "please Jax, I want you inside me." He smiled softly, resting his weight on his elbow as he took his other hand and lined himself up at your entrance. You nodded and he slid inside you, your breath catching in his throat while Jax paused in hopes of retaining his composure.

"Move, please."

He huffed, "I'm just a man y/n, you're killing me here."

The giggle you gave against his chest didn't help, "are you admitting that I make you weak?"

He buried his face in the crook of your neck, "without a doubt." He started moving slowly, putting more force into the last few inches.

His hips slowly got faster as his fingers rubbed your clit, "come one Darlin, take it easy on me." You smiled and pulled him into a kiss, rubbing your noses together before pulling him to you with your legs. You rocked your hips in time with his, moaning into his ear while he grunted like he was dying.

""Jax..I…"

Another grunt, "I know Darlin, I'm right behind you." You whimpered as the climax took over, biting into his shoulder while his warmth filled you.

"Holy shit."

You chuckled as he rolled off you to get a cloth to clean you up, "I know, who knew waiting a few days would be so hard."

He cleaned you up and threw the used cloth into the hamper, "your aim's getting better."

He frowned in mock offence, "my aim's always been great."

You were going to respond but you were cut off by a yawn, "I think it's time for bed."

You nodded and rested your head on Jax's chest, "are you coming to drop your grandpa off tomorrow morning?"

He nodded, "yeah, I figure you guys need help loading everything up."

You put a hand on his chest, over his heart, "I'm sure Gem will be happy to see you."

He picked up your hand and brought it to your lips, "yeah. Good night y/n."

"Good night beloved, I love you."

"It's that everything?"

You nodded and passed Jax the last box, "yep, all done. You want more coffee?" He was already halfway to the kitchen. Nate seemed to accept that it was time to go, you had spent as much time with him and Gemma as you could getting them ready for the change, but she seemed sadder than her father did.

"You alright Gem?"

She shook her head, "I can't believe mum put him in a home."

You shook your head and put a hand on her shoulder, "because she had to, he can't get the help he needs here unless you want to move here with him a watch him twenty-four-seven. It's a good home, with good staff, he'll be ok."

She took a deep breath, "I hope you're right."

It was mid-morning when you got to the home, Jax walked in with you and helped unpack Nate's room while Nate took a tour of the facilities. "Ooo, they have old movies every night at eight, I think I might more here too."

He laughed, "they also have liver with gravy on the menu."

"On second thought, maybe not."

Gemma gave her father a sad goodbye and you left for Charming, promising to come back for a visit whenever you could.

You went home to look after Abel while Jax sat by for the long awaited call from Jimmy's, when it came, he couldn't control his anger, "you lied to me Jimmy. You told me he was still here and yet he was dead on the street after the IRA took him out."

Jimmy stuttered, "I had no idea he got out of the country Jackson, you need to believe me. I'm sure we can come up with a solution that suits everyone."

Jax sucked on his tongue, "the real army boys grabbed Cammy at central station before anyone could tell me he was here. Maybe if you don't believe me, you'll believe a brother."

Jimmy handed the phone to O'Niel, "Jax, it's Liam, he's telling the truth, Jimmy would have no way of knowing that Cammy was in town. Our crew was hired to watch him while he's up north. I've been with him him the whole time and he's never gotten any word from the kings."

O'Neil hung up, Jax knew he was lying threw his teeth but Clay made it clear that no one was to know about the plan to go there and deal with Jimmy themselves. Jax felt such rage, not only could he not get vengeance directly on the man who took his child and shot his girlfriend but he was being lied to.

Before he could stop himself, he was driving his fist into the side of the van. The pain was minor compared to the anger he felt. Nevertheless, he sat down and had a smoke in hopes that the skin-tight feeling of burning rage would fade.

"Go home and be with y/n and Abel, you're no help to anyone in this state."

Despite the fact that Jax didn't appreciate Sam bringing up the fact that he was emotionally compromised, he was right. Clay walked up and sat down next to him.

"Your hands look like mine feel."

Jax nodded, "we have to stick with the plan, we'll go to Belfast once the guns are locked down and sort out this mess once and for all."

When Jax got back to the house, you were ironing your outfit for tonight while Abel sat in his crib. "Hello my love, what are you going home so early?"

He shrugged and you saw his hand, "person or inanimate object?"

He ran his thumb over the bruises, "the side of a van."

You shook your head, "go ice them, I'll clean the cuts once I'm done here."

He walked into the kitchen and saw the blown-up photos from the vandalism of Jacob Hale's office, "you have exhibits and everything, maybe you should have been a lawyer."

He heard you let out an over-exaggerated gasp, "you take that back, I would never be a bottom feeder." He laughed and came back with a bag of peas over his fist.

"What are you going to wear under that nice suit?"

You shook your head, "you'll just have to see you insufferable man."

He took the iron out of your hand and put it on the base, pulling you into his arms, "you seeing Half Sack today?"

You nodded, "I'm going to take him a late lunch, you want to come?"

He shook his head, "nah, I think I'll spend the rest of the day with the little guy."

You looked over and smiled at Abel while he did his best to eat his soft toy, "careful, he's started pulling hair."

Jax laughed, "he's weirdly strong."

You shook your head, "most babies are, they have crazy grip strength, I just want to know why scientists tested for it." Jax picked Abel up and held his little hand.

"Because they're science hippies."

You did your best not to laugh, "are we all ready that bad?"

Jax smile stretched over his face, "yes, every single one of you."

You put the iron back down, "hey, I'm not the one who spent hours researching motor oil, you're one of us." Jax shook his head through a blush.

"I love you."

You pressed a quick kiss to his chin while Abel tried to grab a strand of hair, "I love you too."

They all pilled into the town hall, you had pressed Jax and Sam's flannels so they looked extra proper under their kuttes. They sat in the front row, with Jax sitting closest to the podium. He felt a little buzz in his bones, he had seen you address the UN with fiery blow after fire blow while talking about the gemstone industry, he only hoped you had just some of that fire ready for Hale.

Once everyone important was there, the meeting started. Hale got up in his pressed suit and started talking, "I've called you here today because I made a grievous mistake in allowing the businessman, Ethan Zobelle, run a shop here in Charming. I'm not going to deny that I was the one who helped him open his store, nor am I going to deny that I didn't do my due diligence in finding out who he associated with. I'm here to hear from Charming citizens and make that mistake right."

Behind him, you and some other people were sitting ready to talk, Clay and David were some of them. You stood up first, placing a stand down and folding the cardboard in your hands to show the blown-up photos. You tapped the mic are started talking, looking at each person in the eye as you went along.

"When I got back from my first tour in Afghanistan, my grandfather, a World War Two vet who joined the Marines at only fifteen took me into this office and showed me something. He would always tell me his most prized possession was his wedding ring but then he flipped a picture frame around and showed me the possession he was most proud of." You had told Jax this story before.

"On the other side of the simple photo that hung on his wall was a display case. Inside that display case were three nazi armbands, all three covered in old blood, multiple Nazi medals and an SS-Ehrendolch, an SS dagger. I saw the pride on his face as he told me how he got each one, all taken from Nazis he had killed in battle." Jax knew you and Sam worshipped the man, he could see why.

"My grandfather was a good man, so one day, when someone for the KKK moved next in down the street, he wasn't going to take that laying down. He and my grandmother got the whole nine yards from that monster and his friends. I would have been about six when he first told me this story, when I asked him if he was scared, he shook his head, put a hand on my shoulder and told me when that brick and the message race traitor came threw his window, he knew he was on the right side." Jacob Hale was sweating in his chair.

"Mr Hale has no excuse, we've all seen the photos, he was there smiling while the flag of our biggest enemy was flying behind him. The first time I saw my grandfather angry was in the nineties when a piece on Neo-Nazis came on the news. When I asked him what he thought the government should do, because these were Americans in the nineties and not Germans in the forties, he looked at me and said that we should take to the streets and gut them like the Nazi pigs they were." Jax was doing his best not to smile.

"Don't listen to this man when he says he's sorry, there's nothing sorry about standing there mute while someone heils Hitler. This man wants to be mayor and he will lie and manipulate to get there."

You looked right at him and pointed to the photo of him at one of the rallies, "you are an insult to everything I stand for, you are an insult to Charming, the home of Holocaust survivors. You are an insult to California, the home to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton which turned Americans into Marines to kill Nazis and you're an insult to America. You have no place having any say in what happens here."

The hall was silent as you stepped down and sat next to Jax. He was rock hard in his jeans, your passion was ensnaring, he saw you as a force of nature, no less terrifying than a raging forest fire, and God he loved you.

"That was the hottest thing I've ever seen." Everyone had gone to the Clubhouse to celebrate Hale's humiliation, even his brother joined the pile-on. By the time the meeting was over, he was lucky he had any business in the town at all.

You shook your head, "I was just doing the right thing."

Jax pulled you into his side and kissed your temple, "nah, that was really hot."

You giggled, "the fact that you're turned on by me lecturing someone is a little weird. I mean, I'm not going to ick your yum but most people think I'm a harpy for being so opinionated."

Jax smiled, "well I don't care what other people think, I love that you stand up for what you believe in, I didn't know your grandfather but I think he'd be proud of you tonight."

You gave him a sad smile, "I think he would have loved you Jax, he would have taken garden clippers to your hair while you slept but he would be happy I have you."

"She's right, about the clippers I mean. Really Jax, my sister's telling the truth, he would have adored you."

Everyone laughed, and Jax pressed his lips to your ear, "now I think you promised to show me what's under that pantsuit." Just as you were walking arm and arm to the dorm, Clay got a call.

"That was Alverez, he said he needs you to come to their Oakland Clubhouse."

You pointed to yourself, "me? He has a shot doc doesn't he, why would he need me?"

Clay looked worried, "The Calaveras just dumped a body at their doorstep. They think it belongs to his son's best friend Mateo. Esai's beside himself. They need you to make sure it's him."

You pressed your lips together, "they can't tell by looking at it?"

Clay shook his head, "no, from what Alverez said it's pretty rough, he's wearing his kutte but they can be sure."

You rubbed your face, "I need to stop by the house and get my kit. Call him back and tell him I need to know everything about Mateo that might help me get an Id."

You had no idea what you were about to see but you hoped it wasn't as bad as Clay was making it out to be.

S2 Rewatch - Investigation

Scully spends a lot of time in the autopsy bay this season - in 11 episodes (that we see, there are mentions of autopsies in other episodes) - which makes sense since that’s her reassignment at the beginning of the season.

In season 2 Scully really goes all out breaking rules for her (ex) partner:

Lies to the FBI about the whereabouts of her former partner, shakes off the agents following her, goes after Mulder and helps him escape from the military (2x01 Little Green Men)

Goes into the field to help her former partner (I don’t think that’s part of her current assignment) (2x03 Blood)

Barges into a hostage negotiation, and takes evidence home with her (2x05 Duane Barry)

Lets a murderer escape (2x09 Firewalker)

Breaks into a military base (2x15 Fresh Bones)

Keeps pursuing the case after their superiors tell them to drop it (2x16 Colony)

Goes to Alaska to find Mulder (2x17 End Game)

Uses fake credentials to get access to a patient at a military hospital, and pursues a case (internationally) without getting authorization (2x19 Dod Kalm)

Lies to the FBI about being in possession of stolen, classified information, tells Mulder to leave a crime scene (and presumably destroys evidence - unless we think she turned in his bloody clothes) - oh, and SHOOTS her partner and goes on the run with him, and doesn’t show up at her disciplinary hearing (2x25 Anasazi)

This season Scully is abducted FOUR times - by Duane Barry/the Government, by death fetishist Donnie Pfaster, by the Alien Bounty Hunter disguised as Mulder, and by a town of cannibals. She is also attacked by devil-worshiping PTA members, held hostage and almost exposed to a new fungus lifeform, attacked with voodoo, attacked by an evil child spirit, and shot at. She appears to sustain head injuries in at least 4 episodes, is exposed to - but luckily avoids contracting - an exploding pustule contagion, suffers from premature aging and almost dies (but luckily it’s completely reversible), and is experimented on for months, suffering from branched DNA and is comatose, her family removing her from life support before she miraculously recovers. Yikes, it’s not a great year for Scully.

Mulder is attacked by suspects (or gorillas) in 11 episodes, voluntarily held hostage, in a fire in 3 episodes, trapped in a room filling with water, attacked with voodoo, and hit by a car. He appears to sustain head injuries in at least 3 episodes, is exposed to mind control insecticides, almost dies from an alien retrovirus, suffers from premature aging and almost dies (but luckily it’s completely reversible), is drugged, and is shot in the shoulder by Scully.

A little more hospital time this season, although not much, but it’s memorable - 2x08 One Breath for Scully and 2x17 End Game for Mulder.

Mulder is the driver with Scully as passenger in 10 episodes. Scully is the driver with Mulder as passenger in only 2 (two episodes one after another in the middle of the season - why? Could DD not drive that month?)

Mulder kills 1 person this season (2x24 Our Town). He also shoots the ABH (2x17 End Game), which doesn’t work out great for him. Scully doesn’t kill anyone this season, but she does shoot Mulder (2x25 Anasazi).

They spend 6 episodes investigating primarily together this season, 11 investigating both together and separately, and 8 primarily apart. Most of the episodes apart are part of the X-Files shutdown/abduction arc, with the purpose of limiting GA’s screen time. There’s also a classic mytharc Mulder ditch (2x17 End Game) and a separate avenues of investigation episode (2x22 F. Emasculata). My preference is always for more Mulder and Scully screen time but episodes where they’re apart work if it’s done well, as most of these episodes are this season, with compelling reasons for them to be apart or consequences for it. Then there’s 2x07 3 - such a wasted opportunity to explore Mulder on the X-Files without Scully (I mean I guess we see that it means a depressed Mulder inappropriately hooking up with persons of interest on his case and letting everyone get killed, so.... not great. Although that description makes it sound much more interesting than it actually is! Anyway).

67% overall solve rate at the end of this season. 64% solve rate for this season, so not as good as their first year. Of course there were a lot more mytharc episodes this season, which tend to be where things go unresolved.

Killing Eve Season 1 - 2 Timeline

I’ve personally been wondering about the timeline of Villaneve obsession, so I break it down here after spending 11 hours 15 minutes binge-watched season 1 -2 the other day. Why? Because I don’t have a life LOL!

I’m a little amazed it took only around 2 months (or a little more or less) for the two seasons to run. Villaneve obsession is so strong it took such a small span of time like this. Wow!

V killed a Russian politician in Vienna

E and MI5 team went to karaoke for Bill’s BD party

E interviewed Kasia and secretly recorded it for Niko and Dom to translate

V went back to her apartment in Paris

V went to kill a mafia in Tuscany

E slit her own leg to see how blood runs

V was woken up from her threesome and assigned to kill Kasia in London that night

Kenny confronted E about her actions today. He was disappointed in her.

Day 1

C was called in to meet her boss’s rage

J & H arrived the office finding E was working on finding The Ghost. She caught them up about the kills of people around Alister Peel

J told H to contact Aaron Peel for a meeting

V & K is in Amsterdam planning for the kill their target tonight

K took V to an art museum for her to get the idea to kill

E & J went to meet A but got nothing out of him

The Ghost killed Alister Peel’s secretary

V wrote a postcard to E while watching her target

E & J went to the crime scene of Peel’s secretary

V in the piggy mask killed her target for a show in the red-light district

E came home and had a fight with N about a security guard

V got back to the hotel asking K to go back home (London) / K told her to give up on E because she didn’t interest in V anymore. Of course, V didn’t believe him.

Day 2

C checked all mails addressed to E and found V’s postcard. She kept it and assigned J to go to Amsterdam

V had nothing to do so she went to wait for E at the crime scene

E smartly figured out who The Ghost was and it impressed H

V saw J coming instead of E so she was so heartbroken

H asked E to have late night fried chicken. The talked and almost kissed.

Kenny found The Ghost

V was so broken she took drugs and almost choke a girl to death / Konstantin had been following V, stopped her from killing, and took her back to the hotel.

Day 3

E arrested The Ghost

V cried her heart out for E, believing that she was forgotten. She realized she could feel and her feelings for E were real. She was glad and embraces thme

E looked at herself in the mirror and realized she wasn’t the same E she used to be

C asked E from the other side of the mirror if she was ready to investigate The Ghost

Day 1

V killed a rich teenager in the car wash in England

E & J were watching The Ghost being investigated before C came in

E tried to talk to The Ghost (Jin) again mentioning V’s name and Jin was obviously scared of V

V met K while she was doing her new hobby. K gave the payment for killing the teenager to her.

E & J discussed V & K being freelances and E suggested hiring V to kill her in order to crack info from The Ghost.

Day 2

Everyone in the team, especially Kenny, was upset with a plan except H. C gave E a green light to do it.

J warned E about someone didn’t want a paper trail on her.

K & V went to get a new job, which was E.

V freaked out and refused to do the job. K gave her a tough love; making V realize that E made her weaker and more stupid.

C sent Martin - an expert on Psychopaths - to subtly assess E’s state of mind.

V grieved at a hotel with Tony - a hotel room service - soothed her. She excepted the truth that she had to kill E.

E came home to have a dinner with N. He told her about a sudden trip to Oxford for a couple of days.

Martin reported E’s reactions to his sloppy presentation and recommended that E was to close. This was a no-go. C ignored it.

V sent E funeral flowers shaped as her name. She got horny because of it to the point she asked N to have sex with her.

Day 3

K took V to select a nice weapon to kill E at his friend’s store.

C asked E if she was sure about this plan, but still vague and shady about her support for E.

H prompted E to wear a bulletproof vest.

Kenny confronted Eve about the plan, reminded her about Bill, but E sacked him.

E’s darkness was awakened by an asshole at the subway. She almost pushed him on the rail.

V put all her effort to select the most beautiful outfit of mourning to kill E

E arrived home feeling uncomfortable with the bulletproof vest so she took it off as soon as the bell rang.

V in her mourning outfit; black dress and veil was in front of the door. E let her in.

V & E played pushed and pull control games by their conversations and some trust testings.

V decided to help E crack The Ghost with a condition that E would give her everything she wanted.

They sat in the car to Forest of Dean for 3 hours without interaction with each other.

Day 4

The Ghost was taken to Forest of Dean while E & V followed.

V looked out for E asking if it was legal to do this.

E tried to warn The Ghost to tell her but she didn’t talk.

V went in to get the info from The Ghost while E was nervously waiting outside

V came out with the info E wanted. She asked for a thank you but E was a dick to her instead

E checked if V killed The Ghost or not, she didn’t. The Ghost called E “Monster!”

Day 5

V went to Oxford to meet N and told him about E stabbed her to provoke and make him doubt E.

2x06

Day 1 - the same day as Oxford

N came home telling E that V had come to see and told him about the stab

N & E had D & S sex while V was standing in the rain outside observing (and probably heartbroken)

Day 2

E was pleased with last night sex but Niko decided to leave her

V was bored at the hotel so she broke into E’s house and mess things up.

E met C at the restaurant watching AP’s video recorded by a dead journalist. C told E to be in Rome for a Pharaday conference that AP would go.

E and the team discussed how to get close to AP because he hated people and they came up with an idea.

E & J went to C’s house and met Konstantin. They offered him and V a job which didn’t involve killing.

E went to see V at MI6′s apartment, briefed her about AP and how to get close to him through his sister - Amber.

V created a persona - Billie - to join an AA meeting that Amber was attending. E approved.

E went to MI6 office telling H to create Billie’s profile

Day 3

C briefed E & V about this operation as a Moscow rules and gave them gadgets to work.

V asked C if she was the real boss and C said yes.

E & J was buying lunch together talking about N. J suggested BJ would help before leaving to the office.

V came to see E and said BJ wouldn’t work. N was too normal for E.

E talked down to V that it was hard to be a decent person than being a person like her. V said “Like us, you mean’“ E was speechless.

Day 4

V as Billie joined the AA meeting, and messed thing up by using E’s real-life story. She was called out by the group though.

Amber came to talk to V and advised her to be honest.

V went to E who was mad at her for using her story at the meeting. E talked harshly to V and V spoke up for herself that she liked Eve but not that much. E seemed taken aback before leaving.

Day 5

V being honest about her feelings to the group. it worked, the group embraced her. E was intrigued by V’s speech too.

V and Amber were talking when her assistant came to remind her to not associate with anyone in the group.

V killed Amber’s assistant in front of E. E was shocked, intrigued, and jealous when she saw V hugging and soothing Amber.

V went to see report C the progress that V and Amber were texting each other. C was satisfied and didn’t give a shit about the kill.

V & K took a walk together while V was texting E who saw the texts and ignored them.

V got a text from Amber inviting her to have supper with her and Aaron on Thursday

Day 6

E went to see N at G’s house and trashed her bra drawer. She gave up on him.

Day 7

V as Billie went to The Peels house for supper as invited. K & E were listening to the situation in a van.

Aaron looked and talked down at V shamelessly. V tried to be patient for her job.

E tried to order V around to do things so V took the earpiece off and literally swallow it.

Aaron still provoked V until she realized and called him out as a bully before smacking his face with a book and carelessly left.

E wanted to follow V but K told her to let V cool off because E was all over her.

V went to the kebab shop to cool herself off. She met two attractive girls so she scared them and walked home with them.

2x07

Day 1

V got an apology note attached with a Philosophy book she used to smack him with from Aaron and was invited to have lunch with him tomorrow.

E came into the apartment looking exhausted so V asked her if she was OK and encouraged E to talk

E asked if what V had said about her feelings in the second AA meeting was true or not. V didn’t know and wasn’t sure. E nervously asked “You don’t feel anything?” so V said the only things she surely knew “I feel things when I’m with you.”

The brunette girl from the kebab shop came out of nowhere to thank V for the sex. E was obviously jealous but V told her not to because “I’m not with them, when I’m with them.” Then the blond girl came out to say bye. Eve was so done so she ordered V to see A and get them to Rome

Day 2

V as Billie went to have lunch with Aaron. She intrigued him very much so he asked her to go to Rome with him

E bombarded V’s phone with 9 missed call and 3 voicemails

V came back from lunch and saw her phone. She listened to E’s voice and was glad E cared and worried about her.

Day 3

E, C, and Konstantin discussed Rome operation. C chose the safe word “gentleman”. E asked for a team, K volunteered but she refused and took Hugo with her.

V stalked N & G to his storage unit and asked him the recipe to his shepherd’s pie because she thought Eve liked it. N told her the ingredients.

C subtly assesses V’s and E’s state of minds and reminded E not let V kill Aaron or anyone.

V asked N if he loved G, he said no. When asked if he loved E, he said yes, sure E was his wife. The answer was so close for V to let them both go. V learned from the past the if she hurt N, E would never forgive her. She didn’t want that so she handled both of them in her own way.

Kenny warned Eve not to go to Rome but was interrupted by Carolyn.

Konstantin came to see V packing, briefed her about the operation and gave her a mic in disguise of contraception pills. He warned V that if V planned anything, she couldn’t kill her way out of it. She and E would be on their own.

Day 4

E went to see Martin consulting him about V. He assessed her with questions about her and V. E told him she felt wide awake. Martin told E that his recommendation to take her off this operation was ignored for her safety. Eve thanked him and left.

Day 5

E & H went to Rome and stayed at the hotel near Aaron’s palazzo. They set up all stuff in H’s room.

V & A arrived at the palazzo. V was guided to her room which A had prepared everything for her and didn’t let her have her bag. So, she couldn’t wear a mic.

A watched V from his monitor room creepily.

Eve was so worried that V didn’t wear a mic yet. So, she made an excuse to see V by giving her a mic. H called her out on that.

V & A were in the restaurant. When A was away from the table talking on the phone. E signaled V to “Try the bread.” and sent a bread with a mic to her. V couldn’t help to take a chance touching E’s hand longingly.

A finished his phone. He told V they had to go back because there would be a meeting with a buyer at dinner.

V wore a mic as soon as she arrived at her room and sing a song for E to know she was on. A couldn’t see that because V know where the cameras are so she hid from them.

V dressed for dinner but A was a control freak telling her to do things. V was patient for the job so she did everything he ordered.

At dinner, turned out A’s weapon was “in-depth personal information”, not a physical weapon.

E & H got all the info.

A told V he knew nothing about her and found a shadow, nothing real, a void (because the profile MI6 had created was wiped out by someone so he couldn’t find it)

V realized that A is a psychopath too but she felt superior to him because she had feelings and could feel things while A couldn’t.

H excused himself to sleep while E chose to stay up. He asked her to put the earpiece in and go to bed.

V was in bed knowing that E was listening so she seduced her to have phone sex together. V touched herself while E used H as a human sex toy. It was their first sex although it wasn’t direct physically.

Day 6

V greeted E with “Morning. Did you sleep well?”

H realized that he was used for sex when he saw E took the earpiece off. He thanked her for a threesome before getting coffee for them.

E didn’t feel guilty while V was still in bed feeling happy.

At the storage unit, N woke up and found G was killed. They were locked inside for 3 days.

2x08

Day 1 - same as Day 6 in the last episode

V found A’s monitor room and murder clips. She went to see A in a dining room without saying anything about what she had found.

H got E coffee. She told him to call Jess how they were doing. H went outside to call Jess.

A showed V the buyer that would come today. It was Raymond so she said “What a weird-looking gentleman.”

As soon as V said the safe word, E was about to go out but she heard a gunshot and hid under the bed. The Twelve sent an assassin to kill them. E was lucky enough not to be found though.

E found H was shot so she left him bleeding there to get help downstairs but no such luck because she didn’t know Italian emergency number.

E dressed as a maid to get into the palazzo to find V and A talking and laughing in a dining room.

V revealed her true self to A so he asked her to work for him, started by killing E.

V played being torn because A offered to give her everything and she would never feel bored again. E was afraid that V would kill her for real this time.

Turned out V slit A’s throat and forced him to watch himself die in front of the mirror.

E was in shock about what just had happened so V slapped her to make her calm.

E wanted to go back to the hotel to save H and keep all evidence they had. V thought it was a stupid idea but she helped E finally.

E went back to the hotel and found that everything was cleaned up. C came to see her and let her tell about A. E told C he was dead, V killed him. C said A was killed by The Twelve’s assassin was better than MI6. That was when E realized C used her and V to kill A.

E refused to go with C so she was on her own.

Meanwhile, V was trying to find a car to pick up Eve at the hotel as promised. Turned out K and MI6 had provided it for her with a gun and money. K told V to leave E behind but she didn’t.

K told V to run away from The Twelve as Raymond was in Rome. V didn’t believe him until K confessed that someone had asked Raymond not to kill V until she killed A.

V realized she was used and hurt more when K chose his family over her. K hinted that V still had a family left.

V waited for Eve outside of the hotel for while before grabbing a gun, tucked it in her back, and went inside the hotel to save E.

There she found Raymond with an axe ready to kill her

V provoked R as a “nobody”. He seems to have issued with self-importance so he laid the axe and fought bare hands with V.

They fought until V was choked to nearly death. She saw E picked up the axe so she told her to do it.

E told R to stop but he underestimated her and kept on choking V until her face turned purple. That was when E decided to hit him with an axe at the shoulder.

V told E to kill R by hitting his head with the axe. E hesitated but V manipulated her until E killed him.

E was in shock and V helped her to flee the scene. She took E to the shortcut to the ancient ruins.

C gave K’s family address to him as promised. He walked away without saying anything.

V asked E what she wanted for dinner. E was still in shock so she agreed with everything V said like going to Alaska, being normal, she would look after her, blah, blah, blah. V looked so happy like a girl got her wishing gift on Christmas Day.

Then, the fucking birds happened, V was always aware of everything so she took the gun out of her back.

E saw that V had it so she realized she was manipulated to kill R.

V tried to calm her down but E came to her sense and rejected all V’s feelings for her. She stepped back from V and turned to leave.

V was heartbroken because of E‘s reactions so she shot her and left. She became the same old V right after Anna abandoned her.

Beth x Rio and OTP questions -- What’s the first thing that changes when they realise they have feelings for each other? and -- who says I love you first?

I am pretty sure that I am answering this wrong and maybe I’m supposed to create a written piece for the two characters but honestly the thought of writing for these two makes me cringe. I’m sure I’d be terrible at it!! So, I’m just going to answer the questions literally and hope that’s what you wanted!

Right, so. The first question is so painful because I am convinced that Beth and Rio were a little in love with each other. I know it is controversial but the more I think about season 2, the more it makes sense. In order to unpack your first question, I guess we need to have a think about when they started to have feelings for one another and then when they realised that this was the case.

Honestly, I think that these two caught feels for each other as early as season 1. Certainly, those feelings were mainly comprised of intense curiosity, desire and the fact that they both seemed aware of the electric connection between them, something that neither of them anticipated.

I mean I’m sure if you asked the collective fandom when Beth and Rio developed feelings for one another, the answers would wildly vary.

It’s evident that Rio had been thinking about Beth prior to their conversation in her van (1x05), as indicated by “what are you doing with someone like me?”. Even before then, as soon as Beth and Rio were in the same space as one another, it was like they couldn’t quite remove their focus from the other person, like they were orbiting one another. At this point, after seeing the scale of Rio’s operations, it’s clear to me that he never had to deal with the girls directly after 1x02; initially, it was about using the girls to get his product from Canada and seeing what these suburban mamas could contribute but eventually it was like he couldn’t help himself. I mean, we’ve seen how many times Rio redirects his attention back to Beth whenever Annie or Ruby say something. It seems as though he doesn’t want to look away and it really makes me wonder if, of the two, Rio was actually the first one to catch feelings? Something more than just an awareness of their charged connection.

One of the other reasons I think Rio developed feelings for Beth first is that he’s been making exceptions for Beth for a long ass time, since almost the beginning of their professional relationship. That doesn’t mean he’s not hard on her but it could have, and probably should have, been way worse. It’s not smart for a person like Rio to make exceptions; he never made any for Eddie and I think he knows that he never should have for Beth either. I think it was intrigue that drove him to listen to her and give her some leeway and then I think he was too impressed not to hear her out. Eventually though, I believe he just liked it. He liked seeing her and talking to her in cars and cafes, he enjoyed their loaded conversations and eye-fucking and I think he genuinely wanted her. Like really wanted her. To the point that he let her get away with things that no one else could, like turning him in. Honestly, I oscillate between thinking that he first became aware of his feelings for her at the end of 2x02 or maybe he was full on punched in the face by them in 2x09, after she kissed him and he just stared at her. Or maybe he knew he was f***ed when he retrieved the Dubby for her and stuffed it into her mailbox, instead of leaving it when he confirmed that Jane hadn’t been kidnapped. We saw how soft and open he was with her in 2x08 on her picnic bench. So basically, I don’t know when he realised and I love that it probably snuck up on him, past all the eye-fucks and amusement and exasperation.

So now that I’ve got that out of the way, let’s address your first question, considering Rio’s POV first. I think the first thing that changed was that he suddenly became aware of how dangerous she is to him. In season 2 and probably in the latter half of season 1, I don’t think he could have killed Beth even if he wanted to. There was no way he was going to kill her after he said “Elizabeth. Go home” in 1x09. Also, I’ve said it before but I really do think that throughout 2x02, Rio didn’t know what to do with Beth, who by all accounts was his rotten egg at that point. A rotten egg he couldn’t deal with, despite berating her for being unable to handle her own. I believe that Rio is very self-aware and knew how many exceptions he had made for her but perhaps had convinced himself that it would be worth it, because she was useful. And the thing is she was. But in the business, I think she’d also be considered more trouble than she’s worth.

Realising that he had feelings for her would force him to reckon with the fact that, even though there is a clear imbalance of power in their professional relationship, she actually wields far more power over him that even she is aware of in their undefined personal relationship. And I think as soon as he became aware of that, he was forced to regroup and evaluate what he was doing. This was pretty quickly followed by the realisation that she hadn’t killed Boomer, that she had been lying to him throughout the season despite her insistence that they were partners. I believe that was the driving force behind the “That’s what I am? Work?” scene in 2x12.

Regarding Beth’s feelings, well, she was certainly thinking about Rio early in season 1 as well, “Rio. His name’s Rio.” Annie and Ruby’s responses to that were absolutely perfect and reflective of the audience’s reactions. And come on, with the way that Rio looked at her, called her out and challenged her. There’s no way she wasn’t thinking about him. Sure, she enjoyed it when he blatantly looked her up and down but I think something inside her unravelled when he looked at her with admiration and curiosity in 1x02 (“we’re normal people”) and at the end of 1x04 (“we’re not here to try, we’re here to win bitch!”).

I think Beth has felt undervalued by a lot of the men in her life, including Dean and probably her father (the lack of any mention of him was pretty conspicuous in the 2x08 flashbacks). I think she spent most of her adult life comfortable but not happy. Not unhappy either though. That uncomfortable in-between. Initially, I think she viewed Rio as an opening into the thrill of what she had just done in 1x03, a way to make some money, but part of the thrill was him; I mean, her lies to Agent Turner’s face revolved around both of them having sex. So she definitely thought about that, probably daydreamed about it too. However, I think she also liked what she saw in herself when he looked at her. Her capabilities. And, look, I’m not saying that Beth’s self-worth is tied to Rio. It certainly is not and that would be extremely unhealthy. We’ve seen how much she disregards him lol. What I’m saying is maybe she needed that acknowledgement. Everyone does.

None of this stopped her from turning on him towards the end of season 1, when he “broke up” with her. I am convinced that she was driven by fear of what he would do yes, but mainly by anger and vindictiveness. A bit of a screw you, I don’t need you to do this (and gosh, the irony of that considering the fact that Rio says that to her in 2x06) and how can you just walk away?

We all know that Beth represses a lot, so if she had just sat down and unpacked what she was feeling, she would’ve known pretty quickly what Rio represented to her, a thrill but also a genuine connection. Then, after the bathroom scene in 2x04, her blatant avoidance of discussing it definitely says to me that it meant more to her than she was willing to acknowledge at that point. Then along comes the green-eyed monster when she saw him with Dylan. Come on Beth. Even Annie and Ruby knew that you were jealous but she couldn’t acknowledge it. Instead, she repressed and threw herself into uncovering what his new hustle was. When he returned the Dubby to her and that exhale when she pulled it out of the envelope; Gosh, I think she was confused and decided to avoid what she was feeling even more but maybe it was leaking out without her permission when she and Rio were being so gentle and light-hearted, ribbing each other on the picnic bench.

Interestingly, I’m way more certain of when Beth realised that she had feelings for Rio and that’s probably because we, as the audience, are poised to view Rio from Beth’s point of view. Any insight we get into his character is usually through her, other than his scenes with Turner in 1x01 and Gretchen in 2x03. And we follow her not just in her scenes with him but also through the other aspects of her life, whereas we usually only see Rio in scenes with her. I believe that Beth became aware of and couldn’t repress her feelings anymore when Dean presented her with a choice. Their family or Rio. When she was presented with a time stamp on their relationship, it jolted her. I think by that point, Rio and her had been through a lot and yet always ended up in the same story anyway. Like none of it mattered. Their connection wasn’t erased by any of it. So, she must have stopped thinking that anything could permanently rip them apart. Like, she turned him in and yet there they were, doing what they always do and so what if it means something more? In those moments where Beth’s sitting at the bar, knowing what she had to do, she must have been dreading it. Maybe a little of that was fear of how he might retaliate but Beth knew by that point, in her bones, that Rio would not harm her. No, that dread was because she knew how she felt now and she knew that what she was about to do was going to hurt. Strangely, acknowledging her own feelings was what spurred her to act and seek out that “one last time” with him.

On to your second question, who says I love you first? Oh lord, honestly, I can’t imagine these two every fully exposing themselves like this, not verbally anyway. The Dubby was a pretty obvious declaration of Rio’s feelings (come on, the episode was called “The Dubby”), even if he was probably pissed off while stuffing it into her mailbox. I think, in his own twisted way, presenting her with Agent Turner in 2x13 was another, more f***ed up declaration of something. I’ve thought about this a lot but I can’t even imagine Beth and Rio hugging. Like, it blows my mind to even think about it. Part of the reason is that they are not there yet. They didn’t trust each other, not even before Beth shot him. Telling the other person they love them would expose them in ways that I don’t think either of them can stomach yet. I think it would make itself known in other ways and, hell, it already kind of has with the way they looked at each other in 2x09 before going to Beth’s house. Also, I think the music (Love and War by Fleurie) was an excellent choice for the final scene of the season 2 finale and it was also very telling of what these two represent to one another.

I low-key think that in season 3 or 4, Beth may end up making a declaration of her own, through her actions, of how she feels about Rio. Like saving his life or refusing to flip on him or protecting him in her own way. Her equivalent of the Dubby. And honestly, I will be living!

What I’m trying to say is that Beth and Rio are definitely those two that everyone would eventually know are in love but they would struggle to say it to each other, even if they knew it. If it did happen, I kind of think Beth would be the one to say it. The show is called Good Girls and it’s about our three gals. Beth left her pearls for Rio, lifted up her dress for him and crossed the distance between them to kiss him first. So, in keeping with that theme, it makes sense that she would be the one to say it.

That being said, I can vaguely see both of them saying it. But in a resigned way. This is killing me. You could kill me. I know. I’m tired. I love you.

Like, all those thoughts and emotions swirling together, until it it just came out, leaden with exhaustion.

Anyway, that’s that. I am so sorry that it took me so long to answer this ask but I got ridiculously insecure with my answer and then realised that I had actually written that everyone will have different opinions, so I thought screw it. I’d really love to hear other peoples’ thoughts! Also, feel free to send in asks (they’ll defos be as rambly as this one, sorry)!

Btw, this is pretty irrelevant but can you imagine if we get to see scenes of Rio in the next season, thinking about her when she’s not there (maybe with the pearls)? Followed by Beth thinking about him? Probs won’t happen but I can dream.

Once Upon a Time 2x07 “Child of the Moon” Review

We get some more backstory about Red and see why she and Snow are such good friends. And Spencer goes off the rails by murder Gus Gus, in order to make David look bad. Looks like some old grudges can’t be let go of even after the curse.

Summary: Red meets a pack of werewolves led by her thought to be dead mother. In Storybrooke, when someone from Ruby’s past is murdered, she thinks she has killed him as the wolf.

Opening: Red walking in the woods.

New Characters:

Anita: So Red’s mother is… something. Apparently, Granny stole Red from her as a baby. No word as to what happened to Red’s father. Also, not sure if Anita is Granny’s daughter or Red’s father was. Granny and Ruby share the same last name in SB, but that doesn’t mean anything. So, Anita is the leader of a pack of wolves that finds Red. Anita doesn’t seem to have a lot of motherly qualities. She is certainly a good leader, telling her pack what they want to hear. She tells Red that if you give into the wolf you can be in control of it when you change, but if you feel like the wolf invades you, then you’ll black out and just be the wolf. Good advice. Red follows it and remembers her time as the wolf that night. But Red sees Anita’s true nature later on. Anita considers herself a wolf above being a human. Granny had taken Red away to try and keep her human, rather than deal with being the wolf. When Snow finds her way into the lair, Anita wants Red to kill her because that’s what wolves do (this after Red is still traumatized over killing Peter). Red kills her mother instead (on accident). Snow is the only one who saw her as both a human being and a wolf, which is what she is. I get that Anita feels that the wolf is part of her the whole time, but trying to get the daughter you just reunited with after 20 some odd years to try and kill her best friend, is not the best way to get her to accept you as her mother.

Character Observations:

Red/Ruby: This is Red’s journey from fearing the wolf that is inside of her to accepting the wolf that is inside of her, and not accepting that she has to be one or the other. She and Snow are running from the Evil Queen’s guards when Red tears her cloak. She’s afraid that it might not work with the tear so she asks Snow to leave her for the night and find her at the stream the next morning. Snow doesn’t want to leave her friend and Red questions why Snow is so nice to her after the Peter incident. Snow says being a wolf isn’t who she is. There’s our theme for the episode Oncers! Red awakens the next morning and doesn’t seem to have changed, so now we know that her cloak is fine even when torn. She goes to the stream to meet Snow and takes of her cloak to clean up a bit when a random guy runs by and steal it! Red is freaking the F out because she doesn’t want to change and put anyone in danger. Random guy threatens to burn the cloak (who raised this gay, a pack of wo…, oh, never mind), and says he recognizes her as a wolf, which causes Red to knock him down. She wants to know how he knows that. He knocks her onto her back and says he can always recognize a child of the moon (is that really what they call themselves?), and then his eyes glow. Red realizes he’s a wolf too. His name is Quinn and he realizes no one taught her how to be a wolf. Red backstories that her parents were killed by hunters. Quinn tells her she can be in control as the wolf so he takes her to a secret underground lair where other werewolves hang out. Their leader is a woman named Anita, who also happens to be Red’s mother!!! Red now realizes Granny, the person who raised her, lied to her her whole life. First about being a werewolf, and then about her parents being dead. Anita tells Red Granny stole her away when she was a baby. Anita tells Red in order to control the wolf the first thing she needs to do is get rid of her cloak. Red is scared to, but eventually she drops it and gives her mom a big ole hug. Anita explains the ins and outs of how to control the wolf (complete with footage of Red and the other wolves running in the forest) and Red is ecstatic that she remembers everything from that night the next morning. Snow tracks Red to the lair, because she was worried when she didn’t meet her. Quinn thinks she’s a spy until Red tells them Snow is her friend. Quinn says they’re part of Red’s pack. Snow wants Red to leave with her, but Red wants to stay, especially since her mother is there. Snow completely understands, and then an arrow randomly shoots out of nowhere and hits Quinn in the chest. The Evil Queen’s guards followed Snow there. The wolves take them out easily. Anita wants to kill Snow since she lead the guards to them, and she wants Red to do it. Red is horrified. The whole reason she wanted to control the wolf is so she wouldn’t kill anyone, and now her mother is basically telling her to murder her best friend. WTF Anita? Anita says she’ll kill her instead and Red attacks Anita (both in wolf form) and accidentally impales her. Anita tells her she chose Snow, but Red says she chose not to be a killer. Big difference there, Anita. Red buries her mother and Snow says she’s sorry, because she knows what it’s like to lose family. But Red informs Snow that she didn’t lose her family, she protected it, because Snow is her family. Awww. Snow is her family because she’s the only one who won’t make her choose between being the wolf and being Red, because Snow knows she is both.

Ruby is having a tough time. She’s afraid that, because her wolfiness has been suppressed for 28 years, she won’t remember how to control the wolf in her and she’ll hurt someone. Um, Ruby, wasn’t that the first thing you learned, don’t fear the wolf, let it take you over and then you’ll be in control? I’m no werewolf, but that seems pretty cut and dry. Billy, from The Price of Gold comes by to tell her he was Cinderella’s mouse, Gus, back in the EF. He’d like to take her out on a date that night. Dude, play it cool, never ask out for that night. Ruby tries to think of an excuse as to why she can’t without revealing she’ll be howling at the moon. Belle saves her by saying they’re going to have a girl’s night. Belle wonders why she doesn’t want to go out with him as he seems nice, but Ruby, checking the clock, says it’s complicated. Granny is welding a cage for Ruby in the back in the freezer? It looks like a storage area, but they ask David if he knows anyone who wants 37 frozen lasagnas, so, i’m not sure where they’re making her cage. Either way, they’re making it in the kitchen for some reason. I guess all the stainless steel. Doesn’t seem very hygienic. David wonders why she doesn’t just use her cloak, but neither she nor Granny have seen it. Ruby assumes it didn’t come over in the curse. She goes into the cage. The next morning the cage door is off its hinges and there are claw marks all over the kitchen and Ruby is missing. David and Granny find her asleep in the woods. Ruby doesn’t remember anything because she was too afraid and let the wolf control her instead of the other way around. David brings Granny and Ruby with him to check out a double parked car. Ruby smells blood. They find half of Billy under the front of his car and the other half elsewhere. Ruby is screaming that the wolf killed him. Ruby wants David to lock her in jail. David assumes it’s because she thinks she killed Billy and tries to convince her otherwise, Ruby wants to be in jail to protect the town from herself. Ruby ends up moving herself to the library because Spencer brings a mob to the sheriff’s station. She chains herself to the fire hose. They thank Belle and Ruby calls herself a monster, but Belle doesn’t believe that. Ruby tells Belle she should leave when she transforms, but Belle doesn’t want to. She reiterates to Ruby that everyone sees the good in her and she needs to see it too (listen to her Ruby, she’s dating the Dark One). Ruby looks like she’s going to hug Belle but chains her up instead. Ruby wants the town to catch her and kill her and Belle can’t stop her. What? A minute ago Ruby just wanted to be locked up so she didn’t hurt anyone else and now she wants the town to kill her? David and Granny figure out who actually killed Billy so David goes to save Ruby, who is now in wolf form, from Spencer and the angry mob. He calms her down enough to put her cloak on her. Ruby and David run off to find Spencer. She tracks him down with her wolf scent. And then has to tell David not to become a killer when Spencer goads David into trying to kill him. Back at the loft, Ruby lifts up David’s spirits by telling him he can do anything he sets his mind to and then asks him to go rescue Belle in the library. She’s not afraid of the wolf anymore, so she’s going to go run.

David: The dwarfs have finally found the diamonds they need to make fairy dust so hopefully, David can get the hat working by the next morning. But he’s going to have to deal with Spencer first. Spencer wants to expose David so no one will follow him. He bad guy monologues a bit more, telling David he’s not fit to run the town, and David disagrees because the townspeople seem to like him. Plus, he doesn’t keep secrets from the town. David basically lays down a challenge to Spencer to hit him with his best shot. He’ll win. David goes into the back and sees Granny making a cage for Ruby. He’s confused as Ruby had a handle on her wolfiness back in the EF. He tells her that he and Snow trusted her and she should trust in herself. The next day Billy is murdered and Ruby thinks she did it as a wolf. David continues to tell her she didn’t do it and not to blame herself until he figures out what happened. Basically, David keeps telling Ruby she didn’t do it, Ruby doesn’t believe him and makes stupid decisions, and Spencer keeps goading David. He is also stupid because he doesn’t lock up the damn magic hat. Granny and David eventually find Spencer’s car and find that he has so thoughtfully kept all the tools for framing Ruby in the trunk of his car so that David can out him. I’m getting the feeling David doesn’t understand basic police procedures because you can’t just pop someone’s trunk to look for evidence. And considering Spencer is the District Attorney, David has no probable cause, because I don’t think Granny smelling Billy will hold up in court. Of course, this is Storybrooke, so I’m sure they have to have some type of magical court of law now that magic is back in town. David finally convinces Ruby, in wolf form, that she didn’t kill anyone and that it was Spencer, and David also figures out that Spencer framed poor Ruby just to make David look bad and so Spencer could rile up the town and garner support to be the town leader. Ruby and David track Spencer to the beach where he has a nice little fire going and burns Jefferson’s magic hat, preventing David from using the fairy dust to fix it so he can get to Mary Margaret and Emma. David’s about ready to kill Spencer, but Ruby tells him not to, and that calms him enough. David laments to Ruby about how he’s going to have to tell Henry that he won’t ever see his mother and grandmother again, but Ruby says he’ll find a way.

Spencer: He’s an ass. Plain and simple. He’s a classic villain in this episode. He’s pissed because David had defeated him in the EF and now that he’s free, he wants to bring David down. And he almost does it. Luckily, for just being a shepherd, David exposes Spencer and brings him down. Spencer is stupid enough to just leave all the damning evidence in the trunk of his car. Seriously, he has the foresight to try and frame Ruby in a variety of ways and somehow finds her cloak and keeps it from her, but he just leaves it all in the trunk of his car? Unfortunately, David doesn’t save Jefferson’s hat from Spencer burning it. So, Spencer does win on that front.

Snow: We see that Snow is a very good friend to Ruby. It’s not certain how long after we saw Red in Red Handed that this episode takes place, but it’s at least one moon cycle since Snow discovered Ruby’s a werewolf. And given that Ruby is now calling her Snow (instead of Mary),Snow happens to have much better fighting skills, and there are now wanted posters of Snow up in the forest, I’m going to assume it’s more than just one moon cycle. Anyway, they separate because Red cloak tore and she’s afraid the magic won’t hold. We don’t see Snow until a day later when she tracks Red to the sunken castle. Unfortunately, the Evil Queen’s guards followed her, but the wolf pack kills them right away. Snow is totally on board with Red staying with her mother because she would give anything to have more time with her mother. But, because Snow unwittingly brought the guards into the wolf's lair, Anita tells Red to kill her. Red is unwilling to kill her only friend, especially one who believes in her, so she stops Anita from killing her and accidentally kills her mother in the process. Snow is genuinely sorry that Red had to kill her family, but Red insists that Snow is more her family than Anita was because Snow didn’t make her choose between being a wolf and being human. Snow just accepts that she is both.

Henry/Aurora: They again see each other in the Burning Red Room. Henry actually wakes up with a burn on his hand after being there, so Regina brings Gold over to find out what’s happening. Gold explains what actually happens to people in a sleeping curse and that it is, in fact, a real realm between life and death. Sometimes people still find their way there in their sleep. Gold gives Henry an amulet that will help him control what happens in his sleep. The next time he’s there he comes across Aurora and is able to keep the flames at bay. Aurora wakes up screaming for Snow. She tells Mary Margaret and Emma that she talked to the boy in the Burning Red Room and his name is Henry.

Questions:

Why did some animals become human (Gus), but others stayed animals (Pongo)? Was Pongo in the EF, or is he just something provided to Archie during the curse?

Granny freezes her lasagna.

Is there a certain point of the moon rising that Ruby turns into a wolf? She’s freaking out about her cloak being torn when it’s already dark out. If she was going to turn, wouldn’t that have happened when the cloak was torn?

Why is there a wanted poster of Snow hanging randomly in the forest? It’s not even on a path or road.

Why didn’t Granny watch the cage like she used to watch Red’s room in the EF? Also, we see lots of examples of Granny’s super hearing, did she seriously not hear Ruby escape in the middle of the night?

Has David really come to trust Regina enough that he leaves Henry in her care?

I realize a double parked car is not pressing sheriff business, but is it not unprofessional to bring civilians on official sheriff business?

If all magic comes with a price, how come Gold says that there won’t be one for Henry? Does he have control over what the price is?

Was Red’s dad a werewolf too? What happened to him?

The wolves live in an abandoned sunken castle. What happened to the kingdom that castle once belonged to?

A walk-in freezer didn’t hold Ruby in wolf form, how does she think a metal pole in the library would?

Aren’t wolves supposed to have super hearing? How did they not hear the Evil Queen’s guards come in?

How long after Red finding out she’s a wolf does this take place? Because Snow seems to be much more adept at fighting by this point.

What happened to the rest of the pack when Red killed Anita? They were just there helping to tie up Snow.

How did Spencer know where David hid the hat? Did he just search David’s office?

What did David do with Spencer? Is he in jail now?

How did Ruby make it from the loft door to the outside of the apartments without turning into a wolf? I thought once the cloak was off it was automatic werewolf mode. Also, her howl is really far away after she closes the outside door.

Observations:

When Ruby looks at the clock it is 8:20 PM. Depending on when in April or May it is (see timeline below), she has anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour before sunset. Considering she goes into the cage almost immediately, I’m going to say it’s sometime between mid April and the first week of May.

Henry is drinking coffee to try and stay awake.

The false lashes on the women this season are insane. I thought Red was going to fly away on hers they were so long.

The wolves live in the former grand hall of a castle that sunk underground.

How convenient that Ruby happened to get out of her cage when Spencer decided to kill Billy and make it look like a wolf had done it. What if she hadn’t gotten out of her cage, what would he have done then?

The symbol that Red puts on her mother’s grave is the same symbol on the charm Gold gives Henry to be aware of and control what is happening in his dream.

Aurora calls Mary Margaret, Snow.

Timeline:

Small thing, but Snow says she went looking for Red after she failed to meet her at the stream that morning. But Red went through the whole remembering while the wolf revelation, so it’s technically been two days since Snow and Red were supposed to meet.

David says it’s been a few months since Mary Margaret was accused of killing Kathryn, so let’s see how that matches up. Mary Margaret was accused about a week or so after Valentine’s Day, in early March at the latest. The 5-6 episodes that went with Kathryn’s death and then finding her alive were only about a week to a week and a half, maybe 2 weeks if we really want to stretch it. The 4 episodes after that might have taken 2 weeks to a month. At the most, we’re 2 months past when Mary Margaret was accused of killing Kathryn. It’s only been about a week since the curse broke and Emma and Mary Margaret went in the hat. So, David’s kind of right. That would make it about April or May, even though Granny had pumpkins out 2 episodes ago.

An okay episode. The wolf pack really seemed like a cult, and I really didn’t like that that’s the direction they took with it. They’re only a werewolf 3 times a month (I think they’re doing the nights before and after the full moon as well when they change), so that’s 36 night out of 356 that they are actually a wolf, so why is that all they believe themselves to be? At least we found out how Red learned to control being the wolf. Is this something Granny never learned? Spencer is just a villain with no depth and I really hope we don’t have to see him again. And, we now know that Aurora and Henry can communicate in the Burning Red Room, so this can be the way that Mary Margaret and Emma get home.

So thing I wanted SO MUCH MORE OF IN LOT: Mick bringing out Amaya's wild side. Like letting her really cut loose. And then her unintentionally getting Mick to calm down some days like "let's grill some food instead of lighting that building on fire."

I mean i think he did get amaya to cut loose. The amaya who pulled a knife on him in 2x03 versus the amaya who becomes a pirate queen in 3x12, the holy episode, is a vastly less guarded person, specifically around mick. Amaya lets loose around mick most of all because she loves him and trusts him unconditionally, and mick like me??? /me?????/ but also, being there for amaya and having her back and changing into the man she thinks he is gives him a purpose that he had a really hard time finding after len died.

Like because legends has such a big cast, and because it would rather devote time to everyone working as a family instead of just one or two pairings for shipping, characters don't work with each other every ep even if they are, in mixens case, the most important m/f love story of the 21st century. And i think thats actually a huge strength of the show, but it also means we have to savor our favorite pairings when we get them.
