if you see a male character kiss a male character, you assume they are gay.
if you see a female character kiss a female character, you assume they are a lesbian.
if you hear a character say they don't feel like their gender, you assume they are trans.
so why do a-spec characters have to jump through so many loops?
a character saying they've never had a crush or don't want a relationship or that they don't understand romantic love is so often ignored or used as fodder for other queer or autistic headcanons (reinforcing stereotypes that aroace people are secretly gay or always autistic)
why is it that our stories are always "up to interpretation"? why do we have to wait for the words aromantic or asexual to be said to be taken seriously? why is it that even when characters say they don't want relationships, fans will scream and cry about sex/romance favourable aspecs and qprs?
when it comes to gay and trans characters, even the likes of bisexual lighting is often treated as though it canonises their sexuality. for aroace characters, even the most explicit coding possible is swept under the rug in favour of other "interpretations"
i'm so tired of fighting for representation just to have it ignored and minimised by fans. let characters be aroace. please.

> new series release (space babies) coincided with the uk seeing the northern lights for the first time in years
> the devil’s chord coincided with paul mccartney’s long-missing hofner bass guitar being found, by a doctor who fan no less
> boom coincided with an actual meteor crash
> 73 yards is coinciding with a rise in bizarre supposedly-occult animal sacrifice rituals in britain (the folk horror part) and rishi sunak finally calling a general election (the political drama part)
> hypothesis: russell t davies has somehow managed to tune in to the universe’s divine frequency ??
> conclusion: messing with the forces of fate, cause&effect and coincidence, even if it’s for the pop culture franchise you’re showrunning, actually turns it into an egregore, but only if it’s been going for long enough (sixty fucking years to the dot) and watched by enough people (tens of millions). which it has
> ergo, postscriptum: television magick is real and is being unintentionally performed by the creators + audience of the world’s silliest science fiction show
> /jk. unless?

I just saw this video talking about actresses who've had to wear sexualized outfits on film that made them uncomfortable (think Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad) and it brought up an ongoing concern of mine about how films and tv shows are way more explicit now than they've been before. Thinking about how many actresses have been topless or nude on camera when it's totally unnecessary) Like I know Hollywood is experimental and would show sex and nudity in their films, I don't have a problem with that it's just how disproportionate the amount of women vs men who have to be naked and sexualized in film is. It's misogyny, pure and simple. Forcing actresses to put their bodies and sexuality on display for the pleasure of male directors and a male audience. And I hate that you can never point out how many actresses have come out and said that no, they didn't like wearing sexualized outfits on screen, they didn't like going nude/being pressured to go nude, they don't like sex scenes or explicit rape scenes but still anytime anyone mentions this you have to fight puritan allegations because god forbid you question how a notoriously sexualized and objectified marginalized community seems to always be sexualized and objectified in media.

So, uh.... how about that Kendrick vs. Drake Rap Beef 2024?!?!?!??!!?
In all seriousness, I had a mentally ugly April and so I want to thank the early May nuke that was Meet The Grahams blowing up my Twitter feed for getting me back on track. Sometimes you gotta pop out and hyperfixate on something really fucking different to get your brain back on track, which it did. The final draft of the next chapter is ready and waiting, and now I just need to get rid of all the goddamn rust and dust clogging up my arting gears.
I've done and posted multiple iterations of these designs through the years and they're buried in the archives but at some point I have to commit. That point is right now. I have to commit because these are going to be my visual guides for the next act of the story. Man, I hope I can pull this off. I want Din's look to be red for Aq Vetina and made up of scraps while he continues on his quest to rebuild himself. And I want Luke to have SOME color of some fucking kind and also I got tired of capes and thought the contrast to Din would be fun.
Grogu has some tweaks too but I need to stop dawdling and start thumbnailing for the chapter that is waitingwaitingwaiting for launch day so his little "design sheet" will come later. And once the chapter goes live, I'll spend the rest of the summer getting the pop-up shop up and running for pre-orders. Hopefully. Definitely. For sure.

the "how do you define rpf in the mcyt space?" question is SO interesting to me coming from a bandom background, because i feel like a lot more people in the mcyt fandom have more experience with more "traditional" forms of story-telling: shows, movies, video games, art where there is VERY CLEARLY a line drawn between character, actor, and writer. those lines very rarely, if ever, exist in mcyt content. oftentimes a creator will fill all three roles, and sometimes they arent even aware theyre acting or aren't always acting.
so, let me ask this question: is writing fabulous killjoys, "fab 4," fanfic, rpf? party poison, fun ghoul, jet star, and kobra kid are all played by the members of my chemical romance, and are based on them as people, but at the same time there is a line of separation between them and mcr; they are characters the members the played. is it rpf? mcr fanfic based on any other era of the band undeniably is, but because they're playing characters in danger days, the line blurs.
it doesnt really matter where you draw the line because the answer to "is this rpf? is yes and no at the same time. they are putting on a persona while they stream/record, and then sometimes that persona is playing a character on an smp. is the creator intentionally playing a character, or are they just messing around? does it matter?
if you want my opinion, i think it becomes rpf without a doubt when you leave minecraft. "real person" is 2/3rds of the acronym, after all, and the minecraft world is very much not real. are you writing about bdubs and etho having a tense moment across the fence in their last life base, or are you writing about john booko standing in the canadian wilderness after etho s lab sent him a set of numbers he thought were coordinates? i also think that rpf is morally neutral, and that as soon as you stop caring about if you're writing rpf or not and focus more on if you're having fun, then the whole debate goes out the window.

AND ACTUALLY ANOTJER THING ABOUT JOSHS SPEECH THAT HAS ME UPSET
he talks about pre and post glee as if buck wasn't around in the pre glee era. like buck was there, would have been in high school when it started so like. he very much existed in pre-glee culture even if he wasn't aware of his sexuality yet. he was still a bisexual kid growing up in a society that didn't tolerate that shit and he repressed it so hard that he hid it from himself. probably also did a lot of stupid things as a young adult to make up for it too, even if he didn't fully understand why.
buck literally acted like a dog marking his territory all over the firehouse because he was so attracted to eddie that he thought it was anger and jealousy.
buck was a bisexual at 15 and 26 and 33 and Josh was right to say that people did and do a lot of things to protect themselves in the closet that in retrospect kinda suck. such as forcing yourself to maintain a long term romantic relationship with a woman that you aren't actually in love with because it's what you think you're supposed to do.
but he acted like buck was a literal infant (baby gay jokes are fun until they cross the line into condescending which is josh and Tommy's entire MO w buck ig). is it bc tommy is twice bucks age??? bc that's a whole other can of worms.
buck was more than valid for worrying about the implications of tommy being someone that broke Abbys heart, even if he did need to understand the nuance it doesn't change the fact that knowing you dated the same woman is kind of a mind fuck and enough to ruin a relationship with as poor of a foundation as they had.
