LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California woman was sentenced Monday to more than 3 years in prison in a long-running case over a business that helped pregnant Chinese women travel to the United States to deliver babies who automatically became American citizens.
U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner gave Phoebe Dong a 41-month sentence and ordered her immediately taken into custody from his federal court in Los Angeles. Dong and her husband were convicted in September of conspiracy and money laundering through their company, USA Happy Baby.
The sentencing came as birthright citizenship has been thrust into the spotlight in the United States with the return of President Donald Trump to the White House. Since taking office, Trump issued an executive order to narrow the definition of birthright citizenship, a move quickly blocked by a federal judge who called it “blatantly unconstitutional.”
Dong and her husband, Michael Liu, were among more than a dozen people charged in an Obama-era crackdown on so-called “birth tourism” schemes that helped Chinese women hide their pregnancies while traveling to the United States to give birth. Such businesses have long operated in various states catering to people from China, Russia, Nigeria and elsewhere.
Under the 14th Amendment, any child born in the United States is an American citizen. Many have seen these trips as a way to help their children secure a U.S. college education and a better future — especially since the tourists themselves can apply for permanent residency once the children turn 21.
During her sentencing hearing, Dong wiped away tears as she recalled growing up without siblings due to China’s strict “ one-child ” policy and told the court that the Chinese government forced her mother to have an abortion. Moving to the United States was challenging, she said, but Dong grew hopeful after having children of her own and saw she could help Chinese women who want to have additional children in California.
“I don’t want to lose my kids,” she told the court. “I hope you can give me fair judgment. I will take all my responsibility.”
Federal prosecutors sought a more than five year sentence for Dong and argued that she and Liu helped more than 100 pregnant Chinese women travel to the United States. They said the pair worked with others to coach women on how to trick customs officials by flying into airports believed to be more lax while wearing loose-fitting clothing to hide their pregnancies.
“For tens of thousands of dollars each, defendant helped her numerous customers deceive U.S. authorities and buy U.S. citizenship for their children,” prosecutors said in court filings. They declined to comment after the sentencing.
In December, Liu was also sentenced to 41 months in prison. Dong's lawyer, John McNicholas, asked that she be allowed to serve her term after Liu completes his sentence because of their three children. The youngest is 13.
Federal prosecutor Kevin Fu agreed to the delay but Klausner refused and had her taken into custody immediately. Dong removed a necklace and gave it to a family member before she was led away.
The USA Happy Baby case was part of a broader probe into businesses that helped Chinese women travel to give birth in California. The operator of another business is believed to have fled to China, McNicholas wrote in court filings, while another was sentenced in 2019 to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy and visa fraud for running the company known as “ You Win USA.”
McNicholas said he feels Dong was given a much longer sentence because the government and Klausner blame her for the babies that were born U.S. citizens. That, he said, is unrelated to the allegations that she and Liu helped women travel to the United States to give birth.
“Our position was these children are born in America. They’re citizens,” McNicholas said, adding that Dong will appeal. “Implicitly, he’s saying being born here is not enough.”

Womens World Cup 2023 Round of 16
Switzerland vs Spain
Last round Spain were beaten by a better technical team. Switzerland isn't that. But Switzerland proved they can fight against an exeprience UEFA side, so Spain is not unknown to them. This is a battle.
Netherlands vs South Africa
Netherlands drew against the USA so a team that can run with the Netherlands or run more than them can put them in the heels. But this is a one off match so both teams will know it is win or go home. South Africa know this current form they are in can't keep a clean sheet so they have to execute sharply in attack.
Japan vs Norway
Nippon last round evaded a big woman team. And beat highly skilled, newbie, or in flux. Norway isn't the most skilled opponent Nippon will have faced, not a newbie. Did Norway knock themselves out of flux with their last match. Norway will prove how narrowly escaped or how slow a starter they are this tournament. Nippon are focused, take no team for granted. Will look to progress and can't show inconsistency, haven't lost and now must win.
Sweden vs USA
This is a battle, Sweden knows who they are and play to who they are. The USA will not have athletic dominance and when the USA doesn't have the ability to override athletically, it becomes rough. Is Sweden is on the rise, Is the USA on the decline?
Australia vs Denmark
Two battling sides. Australia is at home. This is winable. Denmark must be ready for the fight. Can't count denmark out but the crowd might energize Australia.
France vs Morocco
This is like Nigeria versus england... Morocco plus Nigeria have a huge chance for their identity. Morocco knows France ,morocco can beat France. Morocco will show their mentality while France if wise will not be unprepared. Their coach certainly won't underestimate.
England vs Nigeria
England will be familiar with many of the Nigeria players. Can England technically rise as Nigeria have athleticism. Nigeria womens team , if it ever wanted a moment to make a statement, it is now. England like France in Africa is an old enemy, but an enemy that has become idolized as well as hated. A win against England for Nigeria women is a trophy.
Colombia vs Jamaica
Funny how colombia plus Jamaica connect through the caribbean. Jamaica can look aat Morocco and view Colombia as defeatable . Colombia to be a big team has to know how to do both, defeat the big plus the small consistently. Great Battle.

The membership offers access to a global forum for professional networking and business development with over 10,000 senior executives and managers from the global Fortune 500 and other reputable companies.
2. Lessons from Leaders
The Institute's researchers have reviewed thousands of practical ideas from the world's best management minds. Our management education content is success-oriented. The Institute researchers study the works of the most successful companies, managers and influential management thinkers to identify their best practices, critical success factors and learned lessons. Researched CEOs include names such as Steve Jobs, Jack Welch, Warren Buffet, and Bill Gates. The courses provide experiential analysis from leading companies such as AT&T, IBM, McDonald's, Microsoft, Sony, Exxon Mobil, Boeing, and Toyota. The researchers also conduct a critical analysis of the applications and limitations of popular management theories and practices, models and frameworks, including the works of leading management gurus, such as Adams, Drucker, Hamel, and Maslow. The researchers then incorporate findings into the executive education program to provide students with the latest and most advanced thinking and tools.
3. Experiential and Action-Learning Courses
Unlike academic programs that focus on management theory, our management training courses are designed for professionals with a focus on critical experiential insights and management best practices. The Institute management training is based on a unique experiential action-learning model that saves participants learning time, effort and costs. Participants can choose industry or company-specific projects, thereby bridging the knowledge-application gap. To learn more, please visit the Executive Education KASAC Model and executive action-learning (EAL) Model
4. Return on Investment (ROI)
The management training courses are designed to help managers innovate, solve complex problems and formulate new strategies. At the end of the course, managers can leverage course work in their business, with immediate ROI to their companies.
5. Expert Advisors
The Institute's advisors are seasoned management consultants who advise global Fortune 500 companies. Although we have PhDs on the advisory board, we place more weight on creative thinking and experiential analysis than academic titles. We don't hire academics with no real-world client problem-solving experience.
6.Less is More!
Managers do not like to waste time; they want quick and practical knowledge. The Institute's advisors are results-oriented. They understand key business drivers, operations and performance metrics better than most. The management training courses are designed using highly effective formats, including executive summaries, bullet points, frameworks, methodologies, checklists, tables and short case studies.
7. Accelerated Courses
Since the content of management training courses is highly focused and practical, what would normally take months of academic education, takes only days to learn via the accelerated management training model.
8. Customized, Modular and Flexible Delivery Options
Modular management training courses and flexible delivery options allow executives to choose the modules that are relevant to their current needs.
9. Latest Management Research
With the advent of globalization, rapid technological advances and a continually changing business environment, managers cannot depend on old textbooks and outdated business models. They must keep up with the latest knowledge for successful strategy formulation and decision making. The Institute's management training courses are updated annually and provide resources to identify and address current industry trends, challenges and opportunities.
10. Multinational Collective Intelligence
The institute’s research and education network consists of about 55 universities and organizations from 40 countries. We leverage this strong multinational network to provide the clients with a global perspective and leading advice.

2024 Olympic Qualifiers: Cameroon goalie Bihina confident of victory against Super Falcons
Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon goalkeeper, Michaely Bihina is optimistic her side can beat fierce rivals Nigeria in their 2024 Olympic Games third round qualifier. The two teams will clash in the first leg tonight at the Stade de la Reunification, Douala. The reverse fixture is billed for the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja next week Monday. The Indomitable Lionesses and Super Falcons have met 10 times in the past, with just wins for the former. Bihina, however, stated that the teams’ head-to-head record matters little this time around. “Personally, I’m calm. We know that Nigeria are a great team, but we have what it takes to accomplish our mission” the Racing Power FC of Portugal goalie told FIFA.com. “Our training sessions have been going well and the belief is there. Now it’s up to us to execute what we’ve worked on during our preparations. The 20-year-old also highlighted the factors that could favour her side in the double header. “Firstly, our squad, which is a mix of youth and experience. Bit by bit, things are coming together; we’re developing understandings and making our build-up play second nature, while also perfecting more and more the tactical formations put in place by our coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck,”added Bihina. “Secondly, I’d say the fact that we’re all motivated. We’ve frequently been unlucky in our games against Nigeria, so now it’s time for that to change.” Read the full article

Super Eagles Goals by Nigerian Players
Nigeria, on the other hand, has amassed a significant highlight reel of goals throughout the years, with many of the Super Eagles' goals being appreciated around the world.
The following is a list of the top Nigerian Super Eagles goals, ordered from worst to best. Aesthetic appeal, build-up play, and execution were all prioritized. A goal would not necessarily be penalized for coming during a defeat because the significance of the situation in which the goals were scored is decreased.
The Super Eagles team has achieved tremendous success both within and outside of Africa as a result of the continent's development of some of the most dangerous forwards a club could dream for.
Following their AFCON success in South Africa in 2013, the Super Eagles represented Africa at the Confederations Cup. Nnamdi Oduamadi scored three goals as Stephen Keshi's team won 6-1 to get off to a strong start in the competition.
Another fantastic victory in June was overshadowed by the death of native coach Shaibu Amodu. Rasheed Yekini, Samson Siasia, and Mutiu Adepoju all scored braces as the Super Eagles defeated their European opponents 5-0 in Ibadan's Liberty Stadium.
In the preliminary phase of qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Liberian Lone Stars and the Super Eagles were placed in the same group.
The Eagles' 2-0 home and away victories were acclaimed, but George Weah's kingsmen struggled in the 2013 AFCON Qualifiers.
The Super Eagles returned to Lagos with a goal after being held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou during the 1992 AFCON qualification matches. Surulere National Stadium saw the Super Eagles upset the Stallions 7-1.
The Nigerian national team played a friendly match against the neighboring Benin Republic on Valentine's Day 1977, but there was no brotherly love on exhibit.
Tiko Jelisavcic's Eagles trounced the Squirrels 7-0 in Lagos, thanks to hat-tricks and doubles from Thompson Usiyen and Godwin Iwelimo. While the Squirrels were witnessing the seven wonders of Lagos, Samuel Ojebode and Alloysius Atuegbu both scored goals.
Tumblr media
Prior to Sao Tome and Principe's 10-0 thrashing of the country in Morocco on Monday, this 63-year-old result constituted the country's greatest victory ever.
Onyeali Elkana set a Nigerian record by scoring four super eagles goals in this game, a performance not repeated until Yekini in 1991 and then Osimhen three decades later.

FALL IN LOVE WITH BOREDOM
Dear High Performer
Start your week powerfully with this week’s edition of Sunday Soar - what I’m grateful for, the lesson I learned last week, and what I’m looking forward to this week.
Please forward this along to your friends.
What I’m grateful for
To focus on our important tasks is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.
This is because distraction is a killer of dreams, visions, and goals.
It's distractions that cause people to procrastinate and not begin the journey toward achieving their goals.
How do we stay focused despite the new things, the shortcuts, the popular trends, and the noise in the world that aims to pull us away from fulfilling our potential?
Watch the video here👇
https://youtu.be/1ZGuJ96b5Wg
Lesson I learned last week
One thing that causes us to fall into the temptation of distraction is this thing called boredom.
As high performers, we have to fall in love with boredom.
It’s about feeling the same lack of motivation as everyone else but still finding a way to show up despite the feelings of boredom.
What are some of the things we can do to show up despite the feelings of boredom?

Let Steve Harris and I show you how to do it at the 7-Figure Pitch seminar.
Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, is the date. Lagos, Nigeria is the place.

The key to finding the best institution that offers this kind of coaching is by researching the different schools and organizations that offer this type of training. This is an important step for someone to take so that they can receive the best training for their needs. The cost is generally very reasonable and it allows students to learn at a very fast pace.

The benefits of leadership coaching in Nigeria are that students learn from others and can share ideas with each other while making a personal connection with the leaders that they are training. This is an important step for a person to take as they progress through their education. These leaders are more likely to listen to what they have to say and they may also be more open to training their own staff as well.

Team coaching Nigeria is very beneficial because it allows the coach to have a deeper understanding of his or her players, which can benefit him or her in future coaching assignments. As a coach you will need to be able to communicate well with your players and motivate them to be the best they can be, which is one of the main goals of the team coaching. By having an understanding of your team you will be able to give them confidence to express their abilities and to strive for success as a whole unit.

Team coaching Nigeria is a great way to improve your knowledge of the game so you can better practice and win every time. You will be amazed at the way much easier the players become in their new roles of team leader, and how they interact with the rest of the team as a whole.
