 Finest Alabama Tourist Attractions
We know how to have a good time in Montgomery. With Montgomery, you may go to Alabama Tourist Attractions, Including the downtown riverwalk, the Montgomery Zoo, family-friendly activities, and even free activities. Everything is fun here, from excellent family activities like a magnificent zoo and minor league baseball to adult entertainment like a neighborhood pub with a frozen shot section where you can dress in faux fur and sip shots from ice cube glasses.

The BBC and New York Times both had some interesting coverage on the Alabama IVF ruling. NYT spends more time on it, but I think the BBC's shorter section has an interesting approach by interviewing a bunch of pro-life people who are almost bewildered by the fact that yes, the tigers are also eating their faces.
EDIT: The BBC Global News Podcast generally has three or four topics per cast, and the IVF discussion is second in this one. I believe the timestamp varies by region due to some advertising algorithm, but for me it's at about six and a half minutes in, starts with "For decades, the debate over reproductive rights--"

We live in some scary times & with the recent Alabama anti-trans youth healthcare ban getting through I wanted to share a resource. If the ban goes into effect then the Southern Trans Youth Emergency Project is going to do emergency grants to help trans kids in alabama find the healthcare they need. They already do this for multiple states in the south, so if you live in a state with a trans youth healthcare ban and have to travel across state lines for care- check in with these people. They will try to help you.

And if you have any money to spare, they could always use the help.

ELDRITCH (RHAENYRA x DAEMON ▸ Southern Gothic!AU)
It has been years since the last time Rhaenyra crawled into Uncle Daemon’s lap. “S’not appropriate no more,” he rebuffs her through clenched teeth when she tries and she climbs down, crushed. But she had such a fright walking back from school through the dusty cornfield that she didn’t think it through. Ever since she was a little girl, there have been rumors of bad spirits roaming the countryside, stalking graves and scratching pews in abandoned churches. Some folks say they are being punished for the sins of their dying town. But this marks the first time she’s had a brush with the supernatural. She heard harsh overlapping whispers slithering between the tall ears of corn, dark figures brushed past her, and long leaves began to wrap tight around her frame like tendrils. She struggled to set herself free and ran straight home where Daemon sat dutifully every day next to her father’s deathbed. Viserys snored soundly and Daemon embraced her tight, shushing her as his fingers patted her messy pigtails. He must’ve sensed the terror rattling her bones because he let her stay. Rhaenyra’s chest heaved. She chided herself. Since when was she a scaredy cat? “What happened?” He asked. “The…corn.” He hummed in understanding. She clung to his white shirt, inhaling his calming scent. “Them damn things can’t hurt you, sweetheart," he promised in his thickened drawl. "I’ll fight off every last one of them for you.”

So a city I grew up like a 10 minute drive from just had their Pride event last week!! It makes me so happy to see stuff like this in Alabama, since a lot of people treat the south like a backwards wasteland full of bigots, when in reality there's a lot of good people there. I feel like this is gonna be really good for kids growing up there to get support for their identities, and I liked reading that this event in Prattville only had 1 protester show up

The prosecution alleged that he was the one who pulled the trigger in Emmanuel's trial, but claimed it was his co-defendant in the the co-defendant's trial. The co-defendant only received life in prison.
Alan Miller suffered from delusions at the time of his crime, which legally bars him from receiving the death penalty. He also had ineffective assistance from counsel and has already survived one tortuously botched execution attempt

In Alabama, two harmful bills have recently passed Senate and the House. It has been sent to the governor where it is believed to be signed. These two bills are SB 129 and SB 1.
SB 129: This is an Anti Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion act. It will take away gender neutral bathrooms, strip state funding from DEI programs within public universities and schools, bans DEI events, and bans the teaching of "divisive concepts". This will greatly disrupt the education environment, especially since it is incredibly broad and can be used for basically anything that may be seen as "divisive". This will also lead to the loss of jobs, as those who work on the DEI departments will likely be fired.
SB 1: This bill completely hinders the ability for voters to vote through absentee ballot as it will make it so people who aid absentee voters, whether it be showing them how they work or helping them deliver it like paying for the gas to drive there, can be charged with a felony. This will greatly impact a large amount of people, especially university students who are not registered to vote where their university is.
They are trying to silence and erase us. They are trying to make it so our voices cannot be heard by hindering our ability to vote. We CANNOT let them do that. This will hurt POC, lgbtqia+, and every minority community.
They think by ignoring us that gets rid of us, but we are still here. Please vote and call your representatives. Make your voice be heard whether they like it or not.
If your state is taking similar actions, do not stand by.

Big news of the morning, which I first heard on NPR's Up First (2/21/24), but here's a text version from APNews:
The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that frozen embryos can be considered children under state law, a decision critics said could have sweeping implications for fertility treatment in the state.
Alabama already outlaws abortion at any point in the pregnancy with no exceptions save for life of the mother, but this goes a step further, and introduces the term "extrauterine children."
Ironically, this came from a lawsuit about destroyed embryos at a fertility clinic, but rather than just ensuring the prospective parents can sue for wrongful death that the embryos were killed (someone broke in, the clinic was not at fault), this law may actually result in mass closures of fertility clinics across Alabama.
Current standards for IVF involve harvesting as many eggs at once as possible, and fertilizing them all to raise the chances of implantation with successive rounds of IVF (in case it doesn't take the first time), and then remaining embryos are frozen for if/when the couple wants their next child, and once the couple decides they're done, the embryos are destroyed to free up space for more clients. The new ruling would force them to keep embryos frozen forever, or be sued for wrongful death, which they can't afford, so many are saying they may close their doors instead.
