Laffy Taffy Bricking hard. An electrical fire vegetal Dr. Pepper rises out of the glass, swirling dirty and acerbic in the nose but aligned with a declining slather of flabby fruit, a bit of oxidation and overall: just smooth ripe-fruity blandness intensified with dilly spice and a shot of Luxardo.

Syrah Heaven
Powerful, sharp, amazingly textured while contrastingly pointed, this continues to be one of my favorite Syrahs in Paso. Not as well-distributed as their Rhone blends–or as boring–seek out these single-varieties whenever possible. Black, thick crimson in the glass, not a trace of brick here at 9. Wildly savory nose dripping with ripe fruit: the herbaceous aspects sullied with earth, the fruit…

Cotes du Beaucastel
This is my all-time favorite Beaucastel. And this phenomenon of preferring a *lesser* wine is something which–although bling-bro will shake his heads in disgust–happens frequently with me, and I have observed it throughout the ranks of the wine 1% too many times to count. It is honestly a great litmus for spotting the 1%. My favorite Ridge is the estate cab. My favorite Muga is Prado Enea. Almost…

Dinner in Paso at one of our fav restaurants, but there's LITERALLY only one thing on the list I can drink. So... @tablascreek Esprit de Beaucastel it IS!!! Are you complaining? Best shut up now. Sunday is Prime Rib night at @thehatchrotisserie and this perfectly-rare baby came on a bed of BUTTERY smashed taters and topped with horseradish creme fraîche. The Tablas was showing well tonight, young and actually a little closed in, but dinally coming around to fat slathers of dried fruit and a brilliantly acidic core and a little heat. No tannin. 2010 #tablascreek MGSC 45/30/21/4 14-5 (at The Hatch Rotisserie & Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0NHgoBnyHI/?igshid=ucdynoftgohb

2016 Esprit de Beaucastel FIRST SHOWING: Deep crystal ruby with wide clear edges. Ben-gay initial blows off to shrill grapefruit mineral and Kalamata. In the mouth, creamy and delicious, deep fruited with subtle tannins. Another age-worthy suspect from the Grande Dame of Paso Robles. https://www.instagram.com/p/BrCBw-BAB1c/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1g3j9rhq5i02s
