Vùng sản xuất rượu vang La Vieille Ferme Rouge - Ventoux Ventoux là một trong những vùng sản xuất rượu vang chủ chốt ở phía đông nam thung lũng Rhone, giáp biên giới với Provence. Các loại rượu vang được sản xuất ở Ventoux rất giống với rượu vang Cotes du Rhone, pha trộn từ chiết xuất của cùng giống nho, với tỉ lệ tương đồng. While broader economic indicators presented a mixed bag, wine market in March showed optimism for price stability, overall our auction results of first quarter 2024 showed some improvement compared to the previous quarter.

Our Summer Online Auction concluded on 3rd of March offered some top quality lots that generated new records.

For the first time, the highest hammer win went for two Scotches: both 1995 The Dalmore Castle Leod Home of Clan Mackenzie Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky in Wedgwood Decanter sold for $1175.*

Burgundy delivered yet another solid performance, 1988 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru scored $987, and 2012 Domaine Anne Gros Le Grand Maupertui Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru sold for $470, 2013 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru reached $411.25 while 2001 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanee Aux Brulees 1er Cru sold for $329.

Another category often sees stable ROI regardless of the broader economic performance is undoubtably Bordeaux and Bordeaux blends from high quality regions around the world. In this past auction, 1983 Chateau Palmer 3eme Cru Classe sold for $940 and 2013 Destiny Bay Magna Praemia reached $376. We had quite few “big lots” featuring beautiful 6-bottle OWC with 2018 Stonyridge Vineyard Larose selling for $1057.50, followed by 2013 Te Mata Estate Coleraine at $987.

Some other highlights include 1990 Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin Chateauneuf du Pape scored $987, 2008 Jim Barry Armagh Shiraz sold for $329, and 2007 Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spatles got snapped up at $293.75, great buys.

All prices include Buyers Premium but exclude GST.

Iron fist in a velvet glove - 2019 Chateau De Beaucastel Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Rouge opened today at Cork Fine Wine in Calgary. - Nose initially reticent but opens to black olive tapenade, blackberry reduction, lavender and freshly brewed espresso. Initial attack soft but explodes on the mid and finish with a melange of black berry, dark chocolate and herbal spices that finishes for minutes. Acidity is on point and it is surprising how approachable this classical scored vintage is in its relative youth. A masterpiece that will only improve in the cellar over the next 30 years.

Recognize The Best Rhone Wines Under $100

If you've ever wondered what an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) or simply The Côtes du Rhône is, it's one of France's oldest and second-largest appellations after Bordeaux.

"There is no location like the Rhône," says the Rhône, which ranges from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south and from the western Massif Central foothills west to the Vaucluse and Luberon mountains in the east. The Rhône Valley has been a center of wine culture since ancient times, and it continues to be so today.

Viticulture arrived in Southern France with the Greeks in the 4th century BC, as we all know (or don't). However, the Romans, who used the Rhône as their highway through France, were the ones who developed the vineyards and reputation of the region (and planting a few vineyards along the way).

Grape Variety In Rhone

Grenache is the king of red grapes. This grape is widely grown in the region and is the primary source of red fruit flavors (mostly blackcurrant) in red wines. The other red champion is Syrah, which grows particularly well in the north and is prized for its deep color – almost black at its peak – and peppery flavor in Côtes du Rhône wines.

Viognier, a white grape variety, is unique in that it is native to the Rhône Region. It has a musk and spice aroma that gives the region's white wines their distinct softness. Another everyday white grape is Marsanne, a fruity grape with hints of hazelnut.

Best Rhone Wines Cornas, which is made entirely of Syrah grapes, and Cote Rotie, which is mainly made of Syrah grapes with some Viognier thrown in for good measure, provide some of the best Rhone wines in Northern Rhone.

The majority of Côtes du Rhône wines, however, are made from a blend of grapes. The vast majority are a combination of many varieties from different parts of the valley and manufacturers.

The price range is very different among Rhone wines, but the best wine with $100 (around 100) is Chateau de Beaucastel 2006 Famille Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It has a dense plum/ruby/purple color with a sweet fragrance of black truffles, camphor, earth incense, fresh saddle leather, and tons of peppery blackberry and herb-infused meaty black cherry fruit.

Help me start a wine collection

It's been a while since I've drank nice wine and I am thinking about picking back up my wine hobby. At the moment, I am thinking about starting off mild and start off with a 6-8 bottle collection stored in a humidity controlled personal wine fridge. The wine fridge is sized to fit 10 standard 750ml bottles, but I figured I should save some space for larger bottles such as champagnes.

I currently have a bottle of 2017 Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Baudes" on hand and would like me collection to have a nice balance of red and whites(maybe slightly red wine focused) that could cater to both amateur and wine enthusiast.

The fine wine market’s dynamics, from Champagne’s subtle decline to Italy’s strong resilience, reflect the intricate interplay of supply, demand, and investor sentiment. Select Bordeaux and Burgundy producers saw strong demand in the early months of 2024, mirroring the broader economic narrative of cautious optimism and selective investment. As we move deeper into 2024, these patterns highlight the importance of strategic insight and adaptability in navigating both the fine wine market and the fluctuating global economic landscape.

Last Tuesday, we concluded our first live auction of 2024.  It was a true delight having everyone back in the saleroom, and for the room to have the hum and buzz returned. For 6 months in a row, the Bordeaux sector has led the show and in this sale 2000 Chateau Mouton Rothschild achieved the highest hammer win at $1880 which marked the total lot value at $11280. 2008 Chateau Margaux sold for $1057.50, from the same vintage, Chateau Mouton Rothschild sold for $940, and 1981 Chateau Lafite Rothschild also got snapped at $940. Kiwi Bordeaux blends did quite well again, 2010 Stonyridge Vineyard Larose Imperial reached $1586.25, (6 bottle lot) 2012 Stonyridge Vineyard Larose sold for $1128 while 1988 Te Mata Estate Coleraine magnum hammered at $470, 2013 Destiny Bay Magna Praemia sold for $434.75 and 2013 Frenchmans Hill Estate White Horse reached $329.

For Rhone, 1998 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon double magnum scored $1762.50; both 2003 E. Guigal La Landonne and 2003 E. Guigal La Mouline sold for $940, 2010 E. Guigal La Turque followed at $822.50, and 2003 E. Guigal Ex-Voto sold for $763.75; 1995 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon reached the record high of $634.50, followed by 2013 Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin Chateauneuf du Pape at $611.

Italy’s performance has been very steady with gradual increase in past three years. (6 bottle lot) 2005 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia scored $2467.50, both 2003 & 2005 Masseto Tenuta dell’Ornellaia sold for $1233.75, and 2002 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia sold for $434.75.

Other highlights include (6 bottle lot) 2002 Concha y Toro Don Melchor scored $1128; 2010 Penfolds Grange Bin 95 sold for $881.25; 1992 Dom Perignon Rose Vintage Brut and 2020 Kweichow Moutai sold at the same price at $587.50.

All prices include Buyers Premium but exclude GST.

This is my all-time favorite Beaucastel. And this phenomenon of preferring a *lesser* wine is something which–although bling-bro will shake his heads in disgust–happens frequently with me, and I have observed it throughout the ranks of the wine 1% too many times to count.
