Thinking about how Drolta had her own goddess-like resurrection by the hands of Erzebet's devotion to her.

She would not allow her most loyal servant to be dead, the whole reason she had this power in the first place was because of Drolta. I wonder if Erzebet felt less godly with Drolta, her other half, being gone.

How it must have felt for Erzebet at the time. Being a disgraced noble woman set to death by the men around her, only to be freed by this creature woman who says that Erzebet could be her perfect ruler. Her goddess.

If it weren't for Drolta's devotion to Sekhmet, Erzebet would have been dead much earlier as a human. If it weren't for Erzebet's absolute trust in Drolta devotion to her, Drolta would have remained dead by Alucard's blade.

Drolta was her own, dark goddess this entire time. For centuries. As she searched for a suitable hoste for her Sekhmet. Erzebet was only borrowing the place of Drolta's true goddess.

Okay, finally making a post about Castlevania Nocturne 'cause holy hell, was that good.

The characters are so interesting and 3-dimensional. The good guys have their faults and the bad guys have lines they won't cross. Like, Richter being this badass fighter, but also getting scared shitless when he sees Olrox and runs away. And even Olrox himself, who killed Richter's mom, but also doesn't really want Erzebet in charge.

All of the characters are hot, I'm just saying. Literally. All of them.

This show definitely stepped up with the LGBT representation, good for them

Edouard was so interesting! I was kind of miffed when I thought they killed him off, but them to see him turn into a night creature and still remember who he was, and even using his singing to encourage the night creatures to remember who they were and rebel, that was so cool!

Fighting scenes were top notch, absolutely stellar. I loved seeing new uses of magic, like Maria summoning animals and Anette pretty much being an Earthbender.

When Richter gets his magic back and Bloodlines starts playing, holy hell, I screamed. That was so fucking good.

Also screamed when Alucard showed up. Was literally like "My baby!" Ah, I missed my boy.

Overall, I loved this first season. Maybe the original Castlevania show is a little bit better, but Nocturne still fucking rocks. So hyped for season 2.

The only Metallica songs I'm familiar with are their cameos in Stranger Things and The Blue Eyed Samurai. (Both amazing scenes btw). I'm not really into metal so I'll take your word for it.

Yes, I love they explored Drolta more. The scene when she went screw it and stole the power from Erzsebet is one of my favorites.

The Blood Countess and Sekhmet: A Dance of Power and Destruction

Erzsébet Báthory from Castlevania: Nocturne is inspired by the real-life historical figure Countess Erzsébet Báthory, who was a Hungarian noblewoman accused of torturing and killing young girls in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. She is often referred to as the “Blood Countess” due to the gruesome legends surrounding her alleged crimes, which included bathing in the blood of virgins to preserve her youth one of the most infamous female serial killers in history, though much of the story surrounding her is shrouded in myth, exaggeration, ( as some one with a history degree I highly doubt it’s exaggerated or a myth they always downplay the complexity of a woman most scholars that probably believe that have their own biases and doctrine and any other influence mainly of the west that comes to play the only time they paint women bad in history is when they rebelling against what society wants to do with them rather than them actually being bad there’s no freaking way that any of this is exaggerated. Just saying if if Vladimir Dracul himself had his enemies heads on a pike then a woman could be just as insane and drink blood as well. Come on now. Like genuinely it’s bullshit. Women are painted as villains off all the time but when they’re actually doing something awful and it’s all legit now they’re not awful get real. and besides, let’s say she did those things and they mention them correctly that She’s just evil but when a man is a serial killer he’s complex he has issues. He has excuses. His mother doesn’t love him whatever)

In the show, she is shown as a charismatic leader, manipulating those around her and using her position to get what she wants. Yet, there is also a vulnerability beneath her commanding exterior, hinting at a woman trapped by her own desires and fears.

Her connection to Sekhmet, an ancient and fierce Egyptian goddess, adds an additional layer of complexity. Sekhmet is a deity known for her destructive nature, but also for being a protector. This duality mirrors Erzsébet’s own nature—her destructive tendencies fueled by her ambition, but also her role as a protector of her own legacy and status.

Erzsébet’s complexity as a character and the way her motivations align with the destructive nature of Sekhmet makes her an excellent choice to wield the goddess’s power. Her internal struggles, coupled with her ruthless ambition, provide a rich foundation for the conflict she faces within Castlevania: Nocturne, making her not just a

villain but a deeply nuanced and tragic figure.

I could go on and on about her and Drolta but I would never shut the fuck up about but I will always love Castlevania and what Netflix had done with it not just for the animation not just for me, loving vampires and whore and all that but because they do a great job and are not afraid to show women as complex beings

I just find it very neat that most of the major players in Nocturne come from countries that will or have had big revolutions in their history 👀

Something I find fascinating about Castlevania: Nocturne's character design.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Castlevania likes to do some interesting things with their vampire characters' eyes. Odd colors, patterns, et cetera. Eyes that can't normally exist. And they depict a lot of their vampires with either narrow slits for pupils, or no pupils at all. They're saturated on light - they've had enough of it. Too much, even.

You want to shine a light on any of these eyes? They're not gonna have a good time. Simple as that.

However, Erzebet Báthory? The Devourer of Light? The Messiah?

Look at those pretty red eyes. They're almost all pupil. Her subjects are sick of the light, but she? She's starved for it. She's a creature of the dark who hasn't seen the daylight sky for centuries, and she longs for it. She, who is supposed to swallow the sun, is the one who hungers for it the most.

There's definitely some sort of irony going on over here, and I welcome any interpretation from people who are better at reading symbolism than I am.
