WGA / SAG-AFTRA Strikes Masterpost

[ !! this post will be edited if there are any updates to info or if i discover i made any errors in my research, so i don’t recommend reblogging it !! ]

✤ TL;DR:

viv has now said in an interview posted October 26th, 2023 that the delay was due to Hazbin Hotel not having a streaming platform, and making arrangements with Prime.

prior to that, viv said on July 13th, 2023, that she felt it was "safe to say" the actor's strike "effects both (helluva boss and hazbin hotel)" even though she could only speak for helluva. [ link to post detailing her tweets & replies that mentioned the strikes ]

what i think is the strikes weren't the main cause but they caused minor delays due to their effect on the industry, and the main cause was Hazbin Hotel not having a distribution partner.

the timeline of WGA strikes and Hazbin Hotel's delay coincidentally line up with each other

✤ basic info about a24 and the unions:

A24 handles producing (funding, organizing) and distributing (marketing, release strategizing, platform seeking) of their products.

Bento Box is the studio that handled animation for Hazbin Hotel.

WGA is the union for WRITERS in film, TV, radio, and online media.

SAG-AFTRA is the union for ACTORS and RADIO ARTISTS.

SAG-AFTRA allowed A24 to continue filming MOVIES with SAG-AFTRA actors around late July 2023 due to A24 not being affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) that SAG-AFTRA & WGA were/are striking against.

the only thing i've found about A24 and the WGA was a Redditor saying that in relation to SAG-AFTRA's decision to allow A24 to use their actors, WGA hadn't made a decision about A24.

The WGA contract does not cover writing for general advertising, however the development of branded television/entertainment shows/projects that are using WGA writers most likely would've been put on hold. Non-WGA writers would also hesitate to work during a strike for fear of ruining rep/scabbing/ruining their own chances to eventually join the union themselves. (pic below)

Regarding the above; "development" usually means earlier pre-production work, so this may not be applicable to HH at all.

The Hazbin Hotel Twitter posted that it would be coming in Summer 2023 on October 27th, 2022.

Hazbin Hotel's Twitter continued to make general promotional posts with images & GIFs of the characters throughout 2023 starting with... January 31st - "it's going to be one hell of a year!" February 28th - "lovers in hell"

Hazbin Hotel's wrap-party was posted about on socials in late March 2023. [ As far as I've found wrap-parties generally are held once everything is completed & ready for post-production, but can still take months or years to come out afterwards, although the industry tends to want things out the door fast these days. ]

Hazbin Hotel's Twitter continued to post promo tweets... April 1st - Angel Dust's "birthday" April 30th - "Charlie is excited! Are you?"

The WGA strike began in early May 2023

Viv says in a reply tweet that the WGA (writer's) strike wouldn't effect a Helluva Boss episode that had already been written. (this is true.)

Hazbin Hotel's Twitter continued to post promo tweets... May 31st - "What's Alastor so happy about? We'll see!" June 30th - "Someone had a great month! #happypride"

SAG-AFTRA votes in approval of a strike on July 13th, 2023.

Viv tweets on July 13th, 2023 in support of the SAG-AFTRA (actor's) strike and explains the strike "will effect show marketing and promo so things might take longer" but doesn't specify if she meant for Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel.

The same day, in reply to someone asking if the strike would effect both shows or just Hazbin Hotel, Viv says she can only speak for Helluva Boss, but that she thinks it's "safe to say it effects both."

The SAG-AFTRA strike officially starts at midnight on July 14th, 2023.

Hazbin Hotel's Twitter doesn't make any further promotional posts or announcements for months

There were many developments and meetings on the WGA strike during September 2023.

The AMPTP met with the WGA to officially restart negotiations on September 14th, 2023

The WGA resumed negotiations on September 20th, 2023, with Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, and Universal Pictures.

The meeting on the 20th was followed by meetings on September 21st, September 22nd, and September 23rd, 2023.

VivziePop posted a tweet September 23rd, 2023, that an update would be “coming very soon”

On September 24th, 2023, the “writers and studios reached a tentative agreement”

On September 26th, 2023, the WGA leaders announced the strike would officially end.

The strike for WGA ended on September 27th, 2023 at 12:01am PDT.

The Hazbin Hotel trailer that announced its new release in January 2024 was released the very next day, September 28th, 2023.

Hazbin Hotel's Twitter resumes posting on September 28th, 2023 when they share the new trailer as well.

VivziePop posted that she had watched “through the whole season of hh” on October 4th, 2023.

On October 9th, 2023 the WGA successfully agreed to a new contract with AMPTP.

The Hazbin Hotel "Happy Day in Hell" preview was released on October 14th, 2023.

The SAG-AFTRA strike is still on-going as of October 13th, 2023.

✤ !! UPDATE !!

Viv has now said in an interview posted October 16th, 2023, that the delay was due to Hazbin Hotel not having a distribution partner (streaming platform), and once they made a deal with Prime they then had to make arrangements. (pic below)

✤ final thoughts

it would seem that they’ve been working the entire time/on and off since March 2023, and the delay was due to difficulty finding a streaming platform/making arrangements with Prime, like Vivzie claimed in this interview, and just happened to fall into a similar timeline with the WGA strike.

since she has said in reference to the actor’s strike she felt it was “safe to say it effects both (helluva boss AND hazbin hotel) then it’s possible that both caused a delay.

i.e. they were delayed while trying to find a platform, but there were ripples from the "drama" of the strikes throughout the industry that could've caused some other minor delays along the way while they were trying to find a platform, and/or as they were settling arrangements with Prime.

History

Ethan had always been the golden boy. Born to a renowned inventor and toy maker (think the likes of the Bop It or Furby) the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. From a young age Ethan showed signs of wanting to be just as inventive as his father and his creative spark was nurtured as soon as he started crafting his first creations out of cardboard and tape. The older he got the more tools became at his disposal and while Ethan never ended up reinventing the wheel, he felt he got damn close. He watched his father’s success and knew one day he’d follow in his father’s footsteps and be a great inventor.  Coming from money and his father’s impressive line of work it was no surprise that Ethan made friends easily growing up. Who wouldn’t want to be friends with the kid who practically gave out toys just for hanging out? His house was always deemed the cool hangout spot for his extensive toy collection and movie theater in the basement. The older Ethan got his house soon transformed into the party house whenever his parents were away on vacation. While Ethan wasn’t the type of guy you’d go to if you had a problem, he could easily be depended on for having a good time and to cheer you up if you were in a bad mood. He was always carefree and reckless and with parents who hardly told him no his impulses only flourished.  Ethan always did well in school despite his party boy nature. Learning came easily to him but that didn’t mean he went off to university directly after high school much to his parents' chagrin. Instead Ethan took off several years to travel the world and see what it had to offer. He visited over ten countries during his travels and made hundreds of new friends in the process but when he returned to the states his parents had an ultimatum for him. If he wanted to continue being supported he had to go off to college and get a degree. While the pressure was only light from his parents he took it as a sign to go to university as far away from them as possible as an act of rebellion. Money wasn’t an issue for Ethan but still he applied for various engineering scholarships. Feeling like he was in a time crunch and ultimately from his own laziness he ended up using one of his father’s inventions to win the scholarship he used to get into Daskalos University. He’d liked Greece from his time traveling and thought that it was as good a place to go to university as any.

Headcanons

He lives in his own dorm without a roommate. He figured having a roommate could wind up being a buzzkill and he wanted the privacy to be able to bring home whomever he wanted whenever he wants. 

His favorite color is red and is almost always wearing it on his person in the form of red converse. 

Before he graduates college he hopes to come up with the next greatest drinking game to rival beer pong. So far all his ideas for games are too elaborate for drunk people to understand.

He was almost kicked out of the dionysia for being late. He shows up just in the nick of time more often than not. 

Ethan attends almost every party on campus. He’s under the impression that a party doesn’t start until he walks in. 

He schedules all his classes for the afternoon or evening because he’s rarely up before eleven AM.

Forever who may actually be reading this I’m sorry for posting this, talking with bots just isn’t cutting it anymore for me anymore and I just need to write stuff down. If you know me irl please leave this post. This isn’t going to be a well put together and going to have a lot of spelling errors but here we go

I’ve been struggling with my mental health a lot since last summer and things are going to absolute shit. My grades are fucking ass and it’s all because I can’t fucking focus in class. I’ve honestly tried really hard to but I can’t. My parents are blaming all my problems on technology and my teachers treat me like a toddler. I’ve tried talking to my parents about this being a neurological issue but they denied it and just think I’m being lazy. This isn’t even the first time they haven’t listen to my concerns and that’s almost gotten me killed. Back in 2020 I felt like shit. I was always tired and my stomach hurt so much I couldn’t eat and they just brushed it off as a normal teenage girl thing and I was fine. I went days hardly eating anything and threw up at a birthday party because I ate a hotdog. They only took me to the doctor after this started heavily interfering with school work and it turns out my blood sugar was in the 600s and ended up being diagnosed with type one diabetes. If they listed to my concerns I would’ve been spared a lot of pain I went through during the threeish month period I felt awful.

Diabetes has honestly ruined my entire plan for my career since I wanted to be a pilot for the Air Force since I was little and now I’m stuck trying figure out what the hell I want to do with my life. I wanted to be an animator but my mom instantly shut that down and told me it wasn’t a real job and that I should be an endocrinologist instead.

I love my mom but we don’t see things eye to eye. She was the first person in my family I told I was pansexual and instead of telling me that she supported me she just went on a giant rant about how and I quote “queer people are more prone to STDs and have horrible mental health” she’s also a religious woman and told me that being gay was a sin and that I can’t tell anyone at the barn I work at I’m gay (they all knew before her). If terrified that if I tell her I’m a guy she might actually send me to one of those “pray the gay away” camps and take away all of my access to the internet. She’s even considered putting me in her friends little private Christian school since she think public schools are “forcing” the idea of being gay into kids. Choosing not to tell my parents that I’m trans has taken me down a path where I can’t get the stuff I need to feel euphoric and comfortable in how I look. It’s gotten so bad that I can’t even look myself in a mirror topless anymore without freaking out. I’ve managed to get my hair cut decently short and use the male terms for gendered words in Spanish class but that’s as far as I can get. I honestly hate how I look and since I can’t change anything about it I’ve been caught in this web of dysphoria and SH that I’m struggling to climb out of. I’ve though about just flat out giving up on my life since it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and just offing myself multiple times. I can’t bring myself to do that though since I have a friend who might not make it through high school if I don’t stick around and I’m not going to leave my sister to struggle through her middle school days without guidance. My dogs would also be sad if I died

I think I’m being bullied at my school but it’s weird. It’s all happens in my PE class and everyone but a few kids are in on it. It’s two groups of people doing it, I’m calling them the A and B groups to make it less confusing if you’re still reading this. Group A is just a group of friends who think it’s funny to try and exchange me in conversations where they act like I’m their friend just to entertain the rest of the group. They ask me stupid questions and always speak in a condescending tone. Group B is basically the copy & paste popular girls in the class. They just fucking shriek at me whenever I mess up during a game or when they beat me in something. One of them screamed in my ear once and I couldn’t hear well out of that ear for a while. Me and a friend had to play them in volleyball ball once and one of them just chucked the ball past me and yelled fetch as if I was some kind of fucking dog. They also like making fun of how I say things, they spent a whole class period talking about how I said the word “bloody” when I yelled at one of them. Also the teacher has witnessed most of this happening and didn’t do a damn thing about it. I’m not sure why he didn’t do anything about it, even after my friend informed me that her mom sent him an email about it.

This weeks news was eventful. A lot of shootings, Morgan Freeman might be a senile creep and the Supreme Court may or may not once again prove to be a bunch of little bitches. God, when will our suffering END?!

Before you read: This is a long post about my ex. I promise you I am not posting this for you to read, however if you do, enjoy the ride. If not it's really just to vent and let it go. The following will have grammatical errors, and spelling errors. I don't care, I'm currently high and venting. I might delete this, I'm not really too sure. But here goes...

I got with my ex in 2019, --my last year in college-- and it has been one of the most rocky journeys of my life. I won't get into everything, but to add context to the situation I will talk about some of the bull shit that went down, but please keep in mind, parts of the stories are left out.

First, I was cheated on while I was in another country. Mind you, I was in another country because I was jump starting my marketing career post college. What was supposed to be a happy and glorious moment, and time for me was partly ruined by the fact that I got cheated on. Mind you, the nigga gave the bull shit excuse of "I need to be by myself" and brokeup with me before I even found out about the cheating. It wasn't until a month after that, his friend slipped and told me he cheated on me.

Fast forward end of 2019 going into 2020, my dumb ass starts talking to him again, I went to visit this man a whole hour away from where I live and did so a few times. One time in the mix of partying and drinking, this man calls me the other niggas name in front of all his friends. That shit was wild (I was hysterical that night)

Now you may be thinking, why are you still fucking with this man after all this? but check my technique... it's hard to let someone go bro. Especially because he was the exact opposite of what I had before (you don't even wanna know about that emotionally abusive ass story). On top of that, I was doing off the wall shit too. I just never got caught.

So fast forward again, we've both kinda matured and are in decent places in life (mentally). We decide to be cool, and spend time together and shit like that.

Though this time around, I never put my guard down. Knowing this man and the past shit he put me through, I would never let my guard down with him again. Plus in the back of my head I never thought that us being cool and spending time together would become anything more.At that time I didn't want anything more from him or from anyone, but he brung a good nut and good times. We had also both agreed (he brung up the idea) that we would not fuck other people in fear of STIs and giving it to one another. Fair, right?

WRONG

Everything was going well up until this past summer. In June, this man comes around and tells me he's going to be celibate (Bull shit). I found out in maybe September that in July (right before my birthday)... Let's just say, he broke the agreement, and exactly what we wanted to avoid, ended up happening.

So here we are in October and now this guy has a whole new situation and tbh it irritates the fuck out of me for several reasons. But I'll only list the main 2.

The first reason is... Why didn't that nigga like me? Like we had great times together and it was nothing I wouldn't have done for him, so why no matter how hard I tried this niggas just did not want me!!! and that alone is such a hard pill to swallow because I internalize it when I know I shouldn't. But I genuinely want to know, why wasn't I good enough?

Second reason, BITCH aint no way you about to prosper with this ugly ass nigga (who has the same name as me) after you did me THAT bold. Like fuck you, I hope you and that nigga rot!

Now granted I left A LOT of shit out, so this post may come off as the "bitter ex" but that's okay, I'm almost at the end process of letting it go.

I myself have a person that interests me, and I actually do like the person. I hope with time we can actually make something out of it. Because at this point, bitch, I deserve to be happy.

Also (you might be mad) I actually still talk to him to this day. I thought about cutting all ties with him and I still can, however, I don't think it's really necessary for me to do all that. I still value the friendship we did actually make, and I do like spending time with him. As long as no feelings are involved, I will be fine. I'm mature enough to do that, I think

Errored birthday Party 2020

2019 - 2020 - 2021 - 2022

“Welcome back everyone!” Template cheered, “Sadly Reboot and Middle weren’t able to make it, but--we have five newcomers! And a guest!” the newcomers shyly waved, “So… introduction circle again!” He smiled

The year had come and gone, and while they were able to set up everything for another party, sadly not everyone was able to go. Middle wanted to stay at home to spend the day with his brothers and Reboot got caught up protecting his multiverse.

Nonetheless, they still managed to get five new Error’s and what Template suspected to be one of their boyfriends to come.

“I’ll start! Hi all, the name’s Template, and I protect the Au’s from Pale!” The sans variant said simply, “Your turn!” he pointed to the skeleton on his right. Sighing the skeleton rolled his eyes.

“I’m the original still, I guess I’m going by Errored. Hate the Au’s and destroy them for fun.” Errored shrugged before looking to his right.

“Hi everyone, You can call me Strings, I come from a universe where everything runs a little differently than the original. Nightmare Cross and I are on the run from Dream and his organization.” Strings, explained, using the hand that wasn’t holding the skeleton’s to his right to gesture.

“I’m Glitch,” the next Error started, “And I come from a multiverse where everyone’s a little crazy, mainly Ink--but I somehow ended up in Strings’ multiverse so I’m also on the run with him.” Glitch looked to his left, the first new skeleton to speak up in the circle.

“Hey, You can call me Viver, my multiverse Ink and I share PTSD from the AntiVoid and treat each other like brothers,” Viver explained,  “That’s about it.” A little grimmer of a multiverse, but it seemed to have a nice ending. Template winced hearing how the AntiVoid had affected him, but all multiverses were different. Even by a small detail as that.

“Hello, other mes’? Error’s?” The next skeleton started, “Ok, bad introductions aside, friends have nicknamed me Star, so I’ll go by that. My multiverse I dated Ink for a while some cheating and weird stuff happened, and now we’re co-parenting a kid that is made from our past battles.”

Weird and out of there, and a kid with the enemy? Defiantly not expected, but once again, it sounded like paying a penny for a dollar. The end seemed to be good, despite all the angsty sadness that was probably rolled into it. The next skeleton quickly picked up where the other left off.

“You all can call me Ru, and my multiverse is… to put it best weird. Cutting a story short, I’m happily dating my boyfriends, or well, all of Nightmare’s gang and Nightmare himself--and have a multiversal truce with the Star sans’.” Ru explained going straight to the chase. Once again weird, but different. A thought of a creator imagined.

“I guess I’m next, Error’s my middle name, so, I’ll just go by my first name, Edwin. Our multiverse sounds… to put it lightly, drastically different from all of yours.” Edwin struggled to explain, looking to the dark skeleton next to him for help.

“The easiest way to explain everything would be to simply say that Edwin and I are best friends, and not long after I was crowned king of our Kingdom, we ran away to get away from the royal life and eventually moved to America.” Edwin’s best friend explained although template had a feeling that wasn’t all they were, “I’m Neil by the way, although from the sounds of it, you all would probably know me better as Nightmare.”

The last person was up, and then time to relax and talk.

“Heya, suppose I could go by balance, in my multiverse Nightmare and Dream are Deities of emotion and Night and I are considered the dads of the gang. Although I parent Fresh more than anyone of ‘Mare’s boys.”

Standing up and clasping his hands together, Template smiled. That went way more smoothly than last time!

“Alright! Feel free to talk to one and another, and when everyone’s ready, cake time!”

It took time and coaxing on Template’s part, but soon everyone was in one group or another talking. Viver and Errored managed to get talking. Ru and Star started talking about “The gang” and things similar to that. Glitch and Strings were flirting and throwing jokes left and right. Then Balance got Edwin to get out of his shell and bit and open up, Neil standing nearby, a string subtly connecting him to Edwin.

Walking over to the more closed off of everyone, Template gently interrupted, “Edwin, Neil! Have you met Glitch and String yet? I think you all would get along pretty well. Oh! And Balance, have you tried talking to Ru and Star? Think they’ve been gossiping about the weird and silly things their gang has done.”

“Alright, see you two.” Balance waved, walking over to the gossiping Error’s quickly joining in with his own stories of their gang and the shenanigans they have pulled.

“Glitch String!” Template yelled out, catching their attention as he gently pulled Edwin and Neil over, “I think the four of you would get along well! I mean, all of you do have a background of running from something or another. Maybe it could be a bonding topic? Oh! I think someone’s calling me over, bye!”

And with that, Template left them be.

“So you guys are on the run too?” Glitch started, leaning back into the couch as he cuddled into Strings who chuckled at him trying to nonchalantly be clingy.

“We used to be,” Neil started, sitting down on the other side of the couch, Edwin sitting a little ways from him, but not too far. Their hands still connected by the string, “Thankfully, Ian- um, Ink is now head of the court and stopped the searches for us.”

“Court? You live in a medieval era?” Strings questioned, happily snuggling back into Glitch. Blatantly showing their love, further confusing Edwin and Neil.

“Actually, we live in the 1900s, we have some technology, but not a lot. We rely on magic for a lot of things.” Edwin explained, “U-um, are you two dating?”

“Hmm?” Glitch hummed, unsure why the other was so nervous about asking, “No need to be so anxiec, and yeah, we are. Is being gay a big no-no or something for you guys?”

“Y-yeah...” Edwin sighed, looking away.

“Don’t worry, you guys are safe here, I think literally everyone in this room is gay… so. Yeah, we’d be hypocrites otherwise. Ru’s got his boyfriends, and from what I’ve heard Star is married to this guy outer, and he used to be dating Ink-who is also a guy so, you’re plenty safe.”

“Oh thank magic,” Edwin sighed, immediately laying back against Neil, who wrapped his arms around his aid, pressing a soft kiss to his lover’s skull.

With Edwin and Neil finally relaxed and a lot more open about their relationship, Template moved everyone to cake and presents. Everyone sat comfortably in the living room, the dining room a little small for the number of people they had.

Soon everyone was settled, cake set aside for now or eaten, and all the presents were set in the middle. Just as last year, all the names were put in a hat. Once the rules were explained, Template let Errored pick first, starting the white elephant.

“Glitch… ” Errored spoke, “Seriously?! Again?! You were first last time!” He yelled angrily.

“Luck of the draw,” Glitch replied smoothly, grabbing a random present from the middle, finding supplies for battle or training carefully wrapped and put away in a box. “Fuck yeah! Now, this is what I call weapons.” Balance chuckled, mumbling a little something about having help from his gang in picking his gift. Errored eyes lit up.

Next Strings drew, pulling out Ru’s name.

Who quickly stole the supplies. So quick to stealing.

“They were so good,” He dramatically sobbed, before dropping the act and grabbing a new present. A cookbook and knitting supplies. Star gave a small smile. Glitch grumbled as he drew out the next name.

“Edwin.” The aid quickly grabbed the baking and knitting supplies.

“Come on?!” Glitch yelled, getting further frustrated as Strings pulled the tantrum-throwing skeleton into his lap, giggling and patting his head.

Pulling over a new gift using his magic, he tore it open, revealing a simple blue kitted pillow and blanket, Errored gave a short nod. Seemingly proud of his work.

Next was Viver, who grabbed a gift from the middle, get not so useful art supplies that he could probably regift to his Ink.

Then Star’s name was called, and Viver was the new object of torment, Star stealing the supplies for his son. Star groaned. Once again grabbing a gift from the middle.

This time, it was likely from Strings, a carefully sewn doll in Classic’s liking, a bag of clothes of the different Au sans’ in the box with it.

Next Templates’ name was called, and, deciding to try and get the rest of the gifts open, grabbed something new. More art supplies. He looked over to Viver, who gave a small shrug.

Then Strings went. Opening a new one again, he was presented with a carefully tailored suit of armor that had deliberately stitched under clothing. From a chest plate to shoes, it was well made. Whipping his head he looked over to Edwin and Neil, who smiled innocently.

“You guys said you did tailoring and blacksmithing but--DAMN.” Strings spoke enthusiastically, already admiring the detail and care put into it.

Balance’s name was called and he much like many others wanted to steal the suit.

“Nooooo, I’m still admiring it!” String’s whined as it was slowly pulled out of his hands.

“You can admire it when I’m wearing it.” Balance smiled deviously as Strings continued to pout, already grabbing a new present.

The new present wasn’t as big or grand as the literally handcrafted suit of armor, but Ru’s gift was still good. A series of books that he had explained to be invested in--after his Nightmare had gotten him into it--paired with a hot cocoa set and some bagged snacks as well as treats.

The last name to be pulled was Errored, who, despite looking like he wanted to steal the doll, decided to just end everything and pull the last gift from the middle, who could only be from Glitch.

Spiced chocolate, movies, and several extra buttered packets of popcorn. Nothing that Errored wouldn’t be content with.

After many more hours of talking, hanging out, and even more stories being told and shared, Everyone departed. All put back in their rightful multiverse’s. Until they would see each other again the next year.

Last week, "Marina" - a piano teacher who publishes free lessons her Piano Keys Youtube channel - celebrated her fifth anniversary by announcing that she was quitting Youtube because her meager wages were being stolen by fraudsters.

Marina posted a video with a snatch of her performance of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," published in 1801. The composition is firmly in the public domain, and the copyright in the performance is firmly Marina's, but it still triggered Youtube's automated copyright filter.

A corporate entity - identified only by an alphabet soup of initialisms and cryptic LLC names - had claimed Ole Ludwig Van's masterpiece as their own, identifying it as "Wicca Moonlight."

Content ID, the automated Youtube filter, flagged Marina's track as an unauthorized performance of this "Wicca Moonlight" track. Marina appealed the automated judgement, which triggered a message to this shadowy LLC asking if they agreed that no infringement had taken place.

But the LLC renewed its claim of infringement. Marina now faces several unpleasant choices:

She can allow the LLC to monetize her video, stealing the meager wages she receives from the ads that appear on it

She can take down her video

She can provide her full name and address to Youtube in order to escalate the claim, with the possibility that her attackers will get her contact details, and with the risk that if she loses her claim, she can lose her Youtube channel

The incident was a wake-up call for Marina, who is quitting Youtube altogether, noting that it has become a place that favors grifters over creators. She's not wrong, and it's worth looking at how that happened.

Content ID was created to mollify the entertainment industry after Google acquired Youtube. Google would spend $100m on filtering tech that would allow rightsholders to go beyond the simple "takedown" permitted by law, and instead share in revenues from creative uses.

But it's easy to see how this system could be abused. What if people falsely asserted copyright over works to which they had no claim? What if rightsholders rejected fair uses, especially criticism?

In a world where the ownership of creative works can take years to untangle in the courts and where judges' fair use rulings are impossible to predict in advance, how could Google hope to get it right, especially at the vast scale of Youtube?

The impossibility of automating copyright judgments didn't stop Google from trying to perfect its filter, adding layers of complexity until Content ID's appeal process turned into a cod-legal system whose flowchart looks like a bowl of spaghetti.

The resulting mess firmly favors attackers (wage stealers, fraudsters, censors, bullies) over defenders (creators, critics). Attackers don't need to waste their time making art, which leaves them with the surplus capacity to master the counterintuitive "legal" framework.

You can't fix a system broke by complexity by adding more complexity to it. Attempts to do so only makes the system more exploitable by bad actors, like blackmailers who use fake copyright claims to extract ransoms from working creators.

But it would be a mistake to think that filterfraud was primarily a problem of shadowy scammers. The most prolific filter scammers and wage-thieves are giant music companies, like Sony Music, who claim nearly *all* classical music:

The Big Tech companies argue that they have an appeals process that can reverse these overclaims, but that process is a joke. Instagram takedowns take a few seconds to file, but *28 months* to appeal.

The entertainment industry are flagrant filternet abusers. Take Warner Chappell, whose subsidiary demonetizes videos that include the numbers "36" and "50":

Warner Chappell are prolific copyfraudsters. For decades, they fraudulently claimed ownership over "Happy Birthday" (!):

The fact that automated copyright claims can remove material from the internet leads to a lot of sheer fuckery. In 2019, anti-fascists toyed with blaring copyrighted music at far right rallies to prevent their enemies from posting them online.

But despite all that, the momentum is for *more* filtering, to remove far fuzzier categories of content. The EU's Terror Regulation has just gone into effect, giving platforms just *one hour* to remove "terrorist" content:

The platforms have pivoted from opposing filter rules to endorsing them. Marc Zuckerberg says that he's fine with removing legal protections for online platforms unless they have hundreds of millions of dollars to install filters.

The advocates for a filternet insist that all these problems can be solved if geeks just *nerd harder* to automate good judgment, fair appeals, and accurate attributions. This is pure wishful thinking. As is so often the case in tech policy, "wanting it badly is not enough."

In 2019, the EU passed the Copyright Directive, whose Article1 7 is a "notice and staydown" rule requiring platforms to do instant takedowns on notice of infringement *and* to prevent content from being re-posted.

There's no way to do this without filters, but there's no way to make filters without violating the GDPR. The EU trying to figure out how to make it work, and the people who said this wouldn't require filters are now claiming that filters are fine.

Have you ever have any doubt about cockles? If so, why? And if not, why? This is not to cause discourse I promise. Neither am I a troll as people seem to call anyone who sends such asks a troll. I'm just genuinely curious because some times I wonder if I'm projecting destiel onto cockles.

When I learned about cockles, I spent a whole nine months reblogging posts and liking posts without actually ever posting anything about it. I had my doubts because c'mon that couldn't be real right? Wrong.

The one thing that made me doubt was Jensen calling Misha "brother" the whole of 2018. He made sure to include that tid-bit every time he commented on his IG which was sus in and of itself.

The other thing was the jokes Jensen always made at Misha's expense.

Anyway, as time went on I dug deeper― I had all the time in the world because of the 2020 quarantine ― and I realized that Jensen had never called Misha bro/brother at any point in time save for 2018 which was rather strange and I have my thoughts on that to be addressed another time. So that was very very SUSPISCIOUS.

As for the jokes, I realized it doesn't only apply to Misha. They all made awful, terrible jokes about each other all the time. It's just that the jokes about Misha were blown out of proposition and used by Misha haters to propel their propaganda that Jensen hates Misha which― LOL ― even a blind person can see how much he loves him.

So once I realized that, I became at least 90% sure and then:

I came across their little horny performance at Rob's Birthday party on stage during Dallascon, 2015. That whole thing is not safe for work or any environment tbf. Two men who are just friends should never cross some lines with each other but they crossed those lines and there's no coming back from that!!!!

The whole 2019 madness and lovefest from straddlegate that caused Jensen's aubergine to rise, the chest-chest selfie, and the 10 year anniversary post―not to be confused with the 10 year challenge.

Those two isolated incidents sealed it for me because there was no heterosexual explanation for any of it. I even went further and compared how Jensen is with other men he is close to and spends time with a lot―Jared, Rob, JDM ― and nothing and I mean nothing came close to how he is with Misha.

So without any will of my own, I just fell into the dumpster with 99.9% belief ― .1% is margin for error because nothing is 100% foolproof― that it's real and that's where I'm at at the moment. I'll keep you apprised of developments if anything ever changes.

Will there be a 'Our Life' game for each season? Please say we're getting a winter one! 

As of right now we’re only planning on making two, summer and fall. They take quite a while to finish and we’re not sure where we’ll be when the second OL is truly wrapped up. But it’s not impossible we can do a third. Though, four Our Life games is probably not super likely, honestly, aha. Maybe the third game, if we make one, could be switch between winter and spring or something.

What engine/engines do you use to make your games? 

We use Renpy for all our projects!

For version 1.2 of OL, did you make any changes to the DLC? If so, could you post a changelog detailing what exactly (or at least a general overview)? If it's not too much trouble, could you also elaborate on the bugs/errors you fixed in the base game? 

There aren’t really any changes to the DLCs, except for the voiced name DLC getting an expansion. We fixed very few small typos and added a couple extra lines. Unfortunately, we don’t have a list of exactly what all the little fixes were.

I've been playing OL and I love the characters! As soon as Baxter showed up, I knew I wanted to learn more about him! Would you consider adding him as a prospective LI in the future? 

Yep, Baxter (and Derek) will be getting his own romance story as an optional DLC late in 2021! Glad you like him.

Hellooo! First off I'm a huge fan of the game and can't stop playing it. However, I was wondering about how much domestic life with Cove we'll get to see in step 4. Meaning the time before the wedding and the time after. In my game Cove and I talked about having children and I was hoping that would be an option in step 4. Either way, I cannot wait for the release and I send my best to everyone working on the production :) thanks! 

I’m sorry, there’s no children or scenes after the two are married. There’s sort of endless possibilities for what that future could be like, so we unfortunately can’t depict it. You only get scenes before they’re married and, if you get the wedding DLC, you can see the day they get married. It ends there, though. But thank you for the well-wishes!

Hello! I was just wondering, so step 4 is going to be similiar to the prologue/epilogue scenes of the game. Is the Wedding DLC going to be one long scene too or will that have moments? (I love the game by the way, its ruined all other visual novels for me in the most wonderful way <3 ) 

Yeah, Step 4 and the wedding DLC will be like the prologues/summer ended parts of the game. There won’t be separate Moments you can play in any order. I’m really happy you like the game so much!

You said that the OL MC's birthday can't be in summer, but what if you headcanoned it to be? 

You can headcanon it as being in summer! There just aren’t birthday events in the game even if you do know your MC was born in summer. We had to leave those out, since some people might not want their MC to be born in summer and then they’d miss out on extra birthday scenes because of it. It wouldn’t have been fair.

Hello!😺 I absolutely love your game!😻 I can't wait for DLS with Derek and Baxter. And I wonder if Baxter could have seen Cove and MC at the party during their first failed dance? Or is Baxter only paying attention to who he's dancing with, or is he not dancing with anyone at the soiree at all then? 

Baxter isn’t really paying attention to the couples on the floor. He’s just cruising the outskirts for someone available to dance with him. So he doesn’t get any memories of the MC or Cove at that party if the two just dance with each other. It’s great to hear you like the game!

time-wise/step-wise when does the nsfw dlc take place? 

It’s not super strict in terms of an exact of weeks/months, but generally it’s sometime not long after the end of Step 3.

Heya! I'm currently obsessed with Our Life (I played through the entire game on Valentine's Day, hahaha– ha... hah), and I have one silly question: if I start playing Step 3 with the less... "romantically inclined" interest levels (Fond & Disinterest), is there still a chance of getting a romantic ending with Cove? Can Cove and the MC realize "they're the one for me" in just one summer? So happy you’re having fun with it! In OL1 deciding that Cove is your friend means he’s truly only a friend. You can’t decide you have a crush partway through. But we are considering doing things differently in future games.

1. There will be a Patreon-only NSFW bonus Moment. But all the normal planned DLCs will release on Steam.

just some small bug I noticed: even if you didn't ask Cove to dance, if he asks you at the Soiree in Step 2 later and you say yes to dancing, the MC acts like they got to dance with Cove again even if it was the first time. 

Thank you for the report on that! We thought it was fixed, but I guess it didn’t work.

I was messing around with the new update and I noticed that all the hands in the firefly CGs have the same skin tone regardless of what you put in, (with the exception of the really dark skin color) is this a glitch or something? 

The skin tones aren’t the same. It’s just because they’re out at night with only fireflies for light that it makes each image look dark and therefore similar. But if you line them up together it’s clear how there are changes in every option.

How long did it take to plan out and write the story for OL? Not including the programming, art stuff, or the DLC chapters, I mean just planning and writing the base game story alone. The base game story seems hefty as is, and then on top of that there's the changes to scenes depending on MC's and Cove's personalities and relationship, I'm curious how long that took 

It took basically the full development time, aha. I’m someone who doesn’t fully outline a project before start and instead continues to come up with stuff as a project progresses. There were new parts to the story being created right up to near the launch. So, starting in 2016 or so to later 2020, with some breaks/hold-ups throughout that time.

In terms of sequencing, this is Shaw’s fourth S2 R&S!

[ Chapter One ]

The first time Teacher Zeng met Shaw was three or four years ago.

Back then, he was just a little over thirty, and was still at an age of surging vigour. Based on the results of his online searches, Teacher Zeng carried a bag, bringing along some tools, and came to this mine shaft alone.

Lifting a torchlight with a weak light, he carefully observed the surroundings, trying to search for the stone tablet with the symbol “8″. Despite walking quite far in, he had not been able to glean anything. It was most likely another instance of “mistaken information”.

But he had to admit - this mine shaft was built too loosely. As a graduate in archaeological studies with practical experience, Teacher Zeng guessed that there was sandy soil underneath. For safety reasons, he decided to leave this place first.

That was when the accident suddenly happened.

Teacher Zeng happened to walk into an exceptionally narrow space. Perhaps the mine shaft was too dark and there wasn’t any space for his feet. Just as he planned to turn around, Teacher Zeng felt the ground beneath his feet soften. Knowing that he had unfortunately stepped onto soil which was too loose, Teacher Zeng reacted quickly, attempting to lunge forward. However, the sinking sandy soil was even faster than his thoughts. He was about to fall -

Before he faced imminent peril, he felt an external force grabbing him suddenly!

In the next second, the sandy soil filled the air, collapsing from above. How could a person’s strength withstand the speed of the collapsing soil? Almost immediately, Teacher Zeng attempted to free himself from the other party’s grip, not wanting to become another person’s liability.

As though sensing Teacher Zeng’s intentions, the other party shouted in a muffled voice, “Hey, grab tight!”

All of a sudden, lightning as bright as daytime appeared out of thin air. In the next second, a loud crackling sound of electrical currents seemed to gather into a ball. Along with a few "boom” sounds, the sandy soil and the wall of the mine were instantly exploded open by lightning.

Taking in light and air once again, Teacher Zeng was still badly shaken up. He subconsciously looked at his “saviour”, who appeared to be a young man of around eighteen or nineteen years of age. His head of bluish purple hair was very striking despite the sand and soil that had fallen on it. And in his palm, there seemed to be some electrical currents releasing buzzing sounds.

Even though he’s an ordinary person, Teacher Zeng had seen enough over the years to guess that this young person was likely an Evolver with an ability related to thunder and lightning.

While a sizeable number of ordinary people had issues against Evolvers, Mr Zeng naturally felt very grateful that his life was saved. He panted loudly, thanking him repeatedly. “Little Bro, I’m truly grateful to you.”

“That’s enough. It wasn’t as exaggerated as you said.”

“But you should consider yourself lucky. Leaving someone in danger isn't my style.” The young man arched his brows while speaking, his tone sounding very flamboyant. He looked Teacher Zeng up and down, his gaze sweeping past his weak handheld torchlight and shovel. While brushing his hair lightly, he casually asked, “You brought quite a number of tools. What are you doing here?”

At the same time, Teacher Zeng also noticed the other party’s protective equipment used in archaeology.

That mine shaft was definitely not a normal site for exploration. But according to Teacher Zeng’s knowledge, there were quite a number of people like him who were searching for the “historical ruins” represented by that special stone tablet. He might have the same goal.

Probably because the earlier rescue left a favourable impression on Teacher Zeng, he deliberated for a moment before testing the waters. “I heard there might be an unusual stone tablet in the vicinity. I came to have a look since I was curious. What about you?”

Hearing this, the man’s brows arched high. He patted the sandy soil off his body, standing up in an agile manner. Only then did Teacher Zeng notice that he was really tall.

Carrying a black bag, his lips hooked into a smile. “It’s good to be curious. Looks like we’re kindred spirits.”

Watching the man’s back as he left with large strides, Teacher Zeng couldn’t help but surmise where exactly he came from, and how he dared to take action alone at such a young age. However, when he thought about the other party’s skills, Teacher Zeng tossed aside the thoughts in his head: He should be concerned about himself first.

With this thought in mind, Teacher Zheng opened the notebook he brought along with him. Out of habit, he hastily made a brief record before preparing to leave.

It’s a pity that this was yet another futile exploration.

[ Chapter Two ]

The next time he met Shaw, several years had gone by.

A few years isn’t exactly long, but it was enough to gradually morph Teacher Zeng’s perseverance in the face of returning empty-handed again and again, into a state of giving up on exploration and finding historical ruins.

That morning, Teacher Zeng reached his work department: the Ancient Literature Society of Loveland City. After conducting the routine selection of a theme, he suddenly received a call from the front counter, telling him that someone was looking for him.

Right after stepping out of the elevator, he instantly noticed the especially striking head of bluish purple hair next to the pillar. Teacher Zeng subconsciously furrowed his brows, feeling as though he had seen such a conspicuous hair colour somewhere. Just then, the other party turned his face leisurely, meeting Teacher Zeng’s line of sight.

The young man narrowed his eyes slightly, giving him a contemplative glance from top to bottom, and an almost indiscernible interest appeared in his eyes. On the other hand, Teacher Zeng remained stunned in place, the memories from relatively far away stirring in his mind.

“You’re that...”

Before Teacher Zeng finished speaking, the young man arched his left slit eyebrow. “...it’s really you.” He swept a glance at the surroundings. “This place isn't convenient. Let’s chat somewhere else?”

“The last time we met was an accident, and we didn't get to introduce ourselves.” The 10am sunlight filtered downwards through the clouds, providing a contrast to the glistening colours in the young man’s eyes. “I’m Shaw. The reason why I looked for you today...” 

“The reason why you looked for me today couldn’t be because of what happened a few years ago, right?”

Not expecting Teacher Zeng to be so direct, the corners of Shaw’s lips curled upwards. “Since you’ve already asked, I’ll get straight to the point.” While speaking, he retrieved a slightly yellowed old photograph, holding it before Teacher Zeng.

Once he saw the photo, Teacher Zeng lifted his head in surprise. “Why do you have this photograph?”

There were two people in this old photograph. One of them was an obviously younger version of Teacher Zeng, and the other was, astonishingly, Shaw’s mentor.

Shaw raised the old photograph. “That old man standing next to you left this to me, and said I could look for a helper based on this photo if I ever needed it. I found it a while ago, and realised the person the old man let me look for was actually a ‘familiar person’.”

Teacher Zeng was stunned. So he’s...

Even though Shaw didn’t make it clear, Teacher Zeng already had an answer in his heart.

Shaw rolled his shoulders casually, then continued. “The old man said that you’re really skilful when it comes to online searches and exploration.”

“I’m not that good, maybe just a little faster in searching than ordinary people.” Suddenly hearing Shaw bringing up his mentor, nostalgia flashed across Teacher Zeng’s eyes. “Come to think of it, I just graduated back then, and many things were based on trial and error. Being guided by your mentor for a while was truly a huge fortune.”

“That old man...” Shaw couldn’t help but laugh, but he quickly returned to the earlier topic. “You should also know that we aren’t the only ones searching for the ruins.”

“The speed of one person is limited, so I’m looking for a ‘helper’. How is it? Are you interested in working together?”

After Shaw finished saying this, Teacher Zeng unexpectedly hesitated, growing quiet.

Along with Teacher Zeng’s silence, Shaw slowly retracted the smile in his eyes.

“Actually, in recent years, I haven’t continued in this matter...” A wave of perplexity appeared in Teacher Zeng’s eyes. “I’ve been disappointed too many times over the years. So many times that I’ve gradually lost my motivation despite being unwilling to.”

Shaw’s tone was very calm. “Anticipating failure is something archaeologists should have gotten used to since a long time ago.”

“You might say that, but what exactly is this so-called “ruins”? Whether or not it truly exists - even this answer is a blank space-”

“It doesn’t count as a blank space.” Shaw interrupted him. “Whether they are those picture scrolls kept by the old man, or the notes he left behind, all the records and markings are traces of the real existence of the ruins. As long as they’re around, it’s worth exploring.”

“The instincts of an archaeologist tells me that the secret hidden within it is definitely related to a certain mysterious civilisation. And we might just be missing that final push.”

Teacher Zeng was left in a daze, and he didn’t speak.

Hearing Shaw bringing up his mentor’s picture scrolls and notes, Teacher Zeng’s own notebook, which already had hairy edges, suddenly flashed in his eyes. Actually, there were many times when he wanted to store the notebook in the bottom of his box. But until now, the notebook remained at the top of his drawer even though he couldn't fathom why.

"Although there are times when I dislike how the old man goes on a wild goose chase,” Despite how Shaw said “dislike”, a small smile appeared in his eyes, “But he said something which was correct. As long as you persevere, there will come a day when the secrets within will be revealed. So, as long as there’s a shred of hope, it doesn’t count as a disappointment.”

After saying this, Shaw kept the photograph, then shrugged when he saw how Teacher Zheng remained stunned in place. “But people who are as stubborn as the old man are truly a rarity of rarities. If it’s too difficult, forget it. I’ve never forced anyone into doing anything.”

“All right, that’s all. I’m off.”

“Wait!”

Teacher Zeng called out to Shaw without realising it. His mouth hung open. For a moment, he had no idea what he wanted to say.

A person’s subconsciousness is always the most honest. It turned out that he had never completely let go of searching for the historical ruins. And what he needed was perhaps a person to give him another push.

With this thought in mind, Teacher Zeng met Shaw’s bright eyes. “If you really need it... I could try helping you out once or twice.”

[ Chapter Three ]

After agreeing to Shaw, Teacher Zheng spent the following week using codes and calculations to search almost every corner of the panoramic maps on the internet. He meticulously searched for new locations of the historical ruins, not expecting the progress to go even more smoothly than expected.

“With such speed, you truly live up to your reputation.”

Teacher Zeng sent the location to Shaw. “I’ve found two likely positions. One of them is this abandoned factory building which seems more plausible.” Shaw stared at it fixedly for a few seconds, then curled a corner of his mouth and said, “Okay, got it.”

Next to the railing on the roof, sunlight seemed to be even brighter than usual. Magnificent solar flares leapt in between Shaw’s bluish purple hair. He straightened up, his confident expression even more dazzling to the eyes than the sunlight in between his hair. Shaw kept his phone away. “Since I don't have anything on tomorrow, I might as well take a look first.”

Hearing Shaw saying this so lightly, Teacher Zeng instinctively wanted to give him a cautionary warning. However, since it was only their third meeting, he didn’t really know how to phrase it. 

Tidying the hair on his temples which were blown messy by the breeze, Teacher Zeng finally spoke. “I might be overthinking it, but I feel as though it’s been going too smoothly. In the past, I’ve always had to exert double the time to find hazy markings and traces. In short, be more careful tomorrow.”

Shaw arched his brows. “Got it.” Shaw lowered his head to check the time, then waved his hand. “I have class in the afternoon, so I’m heading off.”

That evening, Teacher Zeng slept without a peace of mind, and he woke up just as the sky started to brighten. Rubbing his bleary eyes, he subconsciously tapped open the address that he had discovered earlier, but realised that the markings he saw earlier had vanished!

Were the markings he saw earlier false information by someone on the internet?

Teacher Zeng was startled awake completely. After checking for the third time, he immediately contacted Shaw, but realised that he couldn’t get through no matter what. Feeling anxious, Teacher Zeng rushed to the abandoned building with his quickest speed. 

The moment he entered, he saw countless rusty iron sheets and iron pipes. He keenly detected a strange atmosphere: this place was abnormally quiet.

Just as this thought flashed in his mind, a deafening sound drifted from the building in the next second. Thinking of how he had not contacted Shaw yet, Teacher Zeng trembled with fear, sticking himself against the wall of the staircase, and running up quickly.

[ Chapter Four ]

“BOOM-!”

While Teacher Zeng was rushing up, Shaw was facing an unknown attack.

The attacker was hiding in a dark place, and was probably an Evolver who could control metal. The iron pipes in the surroundings were pulled mid-air in an astonishing angle, sent smashing in Shaw’s direction. The air was very quickly mixed with the muffled echos of metal.

Shaw’s eyes keenly swept towards the dark area. As though accurately predicting the other party’s thoughts, he unfurled his palm in contempt, sending crackling lightning towards the iron pipes which are not too far away. With a muffled thud, the attacker was struck down.

Perhaps the consecutive failures had left the attacker in a complete frenzy. In the next second, a loud sound of metal exploded in the air.

But Shaw’s reaction was even faster.

His fingertips instantly crackled with electricity. With a flick of his wrist and a stretch of his arm, along with a frigidly cold “hmph”, the loud sound of electrical currents followed the expanse of metal pipes, striking the attacker like a sharp blade.

Most likely sustaining heavy damage, the attacker no longer cared about anything else, fleeing by jumping from the window in a flurry.

In a single breath, Teacher Zeng ran to the roof of the building, but only made it in time to see the moment a hazy figure leapt out of the window.

Shaw furrowed his brows, lifting his hand in distaste as he wiped the rust off his face. “Tch, I actually let him get away.” He turned his head and saw Teacher Zeng who had suddenly appeared, then pursed his lips. “What are you doing here?”

Teacher Zeng explained softly. “I just found out that this could be a trap, but I couldn’t contact you, so I rushed here without thinking too much... it’s a good thing you’re skilled.”

Shaw casually tidied his drooping fringe, revealing his eyebrows, which were arched high. After all, they were “co-workers”. Hearing these words blurted out by Teacher Zeng, the initially sharp expression in Shaw’s eyes turned indiscernibly gentler.

While heading down with Shaw, Teacher Zeng released a sigh, then laughed bitterly. “It’s been so many years. From what I know, due to the lack of progress, people who were searching for the historical ruins like me, you, and your mentor, gave up in succession. I just never thought that aside from there being no progress, it actually became even more dangerous...”

“That’s enough. This matter had nothing to do with you. Searching for the ruins isn’t dangerous.” Hearing Teacher Zeng’s self-abasement and guilt, Shaw interrupted him. “In the process of searching, I accidentally made a few enemies. The one from today was probably just targeting me.”

While speaking, they walked out of the abandoned building.

Despite going through this shocking wrestle, it was only daybreak. The rosy dawn served as a foil to the rising sun, elegantly travelling thousands of miles in the sky, the rose red rays of light spilling across the overgrown land, spilling into Shaw’s serious eyes which refused to concede defeat.

“When it comes to things worth persisting in and challenging, I’ve long since mentally prepared myself for protracted warfare.”

Shaw’s lips hooked upwards, an earnest spirit leaping in his eyes. “They will definitely lose.”

Seeing the stubbornness and seriousness hidden in the depths of Shaw’s eyes, Teacher Zeng’s heart suddenly received a jolt.

At first glance, the young man in front of him looked youthful and flamboyant. But his tenacity and dedication far surpassed the imagination of most people, and made Teacher Zeng re-discover the surging emotions he once had in his earlier years.

He’s akin to a giant creature hiding in the deep sea. Once he bit onto a goal, he would never let go.

For some reason, Teacher Zeng found this emotion rather familiar. It’s as though time had flowed backwards to several years ago. Back then, under the guidance and assistance from Shaw’s mentor, he had once seen a similar expression and tone of voice in the other party.

When the faraway memories surged up, Teacher Zeng stopped breathing. What accompanied this was that smiling face reminiscent of a mischievous child, the web pages he found after days and nights of searching, and all the locations he had once explored without a regard for the results...

Emotions he had not felt for a long time suddenly surged in Teacher Zeng’s heart.

[ Chapter Five ]

The weather today is very humid, and there doesn’t seem to be a single gust of wind.

After lunch, Teacher Zeng heads to the grocery store to buy a box of cigarettes. Then, he makes his way to the small flower nursery at the corner. Just as he breathes a few mouthfuls of smoke, the sound of footsteps suddenly drifts from behind him.

Teacher Zeng bites on the cigarette bud and turns around: it’s Shaw.

“Good afternoon.” Shaw has a hand stuffed into his pocket, elongating his words teasingly. “Since you’re smoking to entertain yourself, looks like Teacher Zeng has been pretty bored lately.”

Teacher Zeng chuckles softly. “Why are you here today?”

Shaw purses his mouth. “This might sound baffling. This morning, someone dressed in black suddenly attacked my antique store, wanting to search for some leads...”

Teacher Zeng ponders on this.

Slightly irritated, Shaw kicks a pebble at his feet. “It isn’t that easy to defeat me. We have to find the starting point for the ruins first.”

He lifts his eyes and looks at Teacher Zeng, arching his brows. “If I remember correctly, you mentioned being able to help “once or twice” that day. I’m now asking for that second round of assistance.”

Ever since they parted ways the previous time, Teacher Zeng had been giving it much thought. Perhaps Shaw’s persistence moved him, or Shaw’s mentor made him feel sentimental for the past. Regardless, a certain thought in the depths of his heart is especially clear: Actually, he had never let go of searching for the historical ruins. Since that’s the case, he might as well be involved in it entirely, and it wouldn’t put the years of accumulated knowledge to waste. 

Teacher Zeng has a small smile as he speaks leisurely. “Helping out is definitely not a problem. I’ve already been searching for new leads over the past duration. But I’d like to change the conditions.”

Shaw shoots him in glance with deep interest.

Extinguishing the cigarette bud beneath his foot, Teacher Zeng turns his head and says, “If you face more problems, it’d no longer be ‘once or twice’. We’ll work together formally. Can you accept this condition?

Finally, the clouds on the horizon seem to be dispersed by the wind slightly, revealing rays of light.

Shaw arches his brows. “Deal.”

21:01 Panel Starts. Misha introduces panel- Stacey Abrams, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelecki, Erik Kripke, Berto the ASL interpreter.

21:02 Stacey Abrams talks about how she got into SPN. Talks about running for governor(?) in California(?), having trouble gathering support/campaign funds. On a particularly bad day, ends up watching SPN in her hotel room. Loves it, ends up watching the whole show after this. Quotes “Even if it’s hard we can’t stop” and “who else is going to do this” and talks about keeping going.

Ackles: “That’s one of the most beautiful interpretations of what we do, how we tell the story.”

Abrams tells of how her and FF acted to fix this and change the whole system for the better. “If this becomes about politicians, no one is going to care, but when it becomes about people’s [list of basic rights and essential services]...” “...Patriotic belief that democracy means that if you’re eligible to vote, you get to be heard. Seb does not notice, despite the fact that the masseuse is a small woman and JPad is holding his hands weird to try to make them smaller. JPad says he put his hands down Seb’s back and up his shirt, and Seb still did not notice, just making a noise and saying ‘very nice’. JPad gets as far as groping Seb’s ass before Seb notices anything is up. This is still the middle of a busy airport.
