Tutti su questo treno sono sospetti - Benjamin Stevenson
Il silenzio è un rubinetto che perde: continua a gocciolare finché la casa non si allaga.
Silence is a tap left running: it fills and fills until it overflows and becomes insurmountable. [Everyone on this train is a suspect - B. Stevenson]

Today I am delighted to share my thoughts on Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret by Benjamin Stevenson. True to form, this is the first book in this series I have read, but based on this shorter festive investigation, I’ll be heading back to the start really soon. My thanks to publisher, Penguin, for inviting me to read the advance copy via Netgalley. Here’s what it’s all about: Source:…

“So, I’m writing again. Which is good news, I suppose, for those wanting a second book, but more unfortunate for the people who had to die so I could write it.” ― Benjamin Stevenson, Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect

Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone (Ernest Cunningham #1) by Benjamin Stevenson
I thought the premise and title of this book were good, but I wasn't a fan of the narrative style (very self-referential and meta, as well as all over the place–intentionally–with flashbacks). I'm not always a fan when the narrator addresses readers in mysteries, and it didn't work for me here. I'm also not a fan of unreliable narrators, which I'm sure this narrator would argue he wasn't, but I wouldn't believe him. It was a bit more cutesy than I like for my mysteries, but it was fun for the novelty.

[13/52] 2025 Reading Challenge | B👑Q: Five-Star read.
Tutti nella mia famiglia hanno ucciso qualcuno - Benjamin Stevenson
Un giorno ti renderai conto che la tua vera famiglia non è chi ha il tuo stesso sangue nelle vene, ma le persone per cui sei disposto a versarlo.
Family is not whose blood runs in your veins, it's who you'd spill it for. [Everyone in my family has killed someone - B. Stevenson]

Everyone This Christmas Has A Secret is an impeccable holiday special in this fun meta mystery series.
I read it as the author intended - as an advent calendar. One chapter a day from December 1 through 26 (love that boxing day rep). And I had a fucking blast! The chapters always ended on a cliff hanger and it was a really fun way to experience the mystery.
Also oh my god do you know how refreshing it is to read a Christmas story set in Australia! The descriptions of the heat and of Australian traditions. It just made me so bloody happy.
#booklr#everyone this christmas has a secret#benjamin stevenson#ernest cunningham series#brigid speaks#read in 2024#book update#saw someone fairly popular in the book community say she didnt enjoy it because it ~wasnt christmasy enough~ or something#and im like no its because you expect christmas to have snow and that is not accurate for everyone#there were so many parts of the plot that revolved around advent calendars and secret santas and dressing up as a reindeer#there just wasnt any snow#this series is southern hemisphere propaganda and i mean that in the best way possible

Today I finished reading Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the previous book Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone. Ern is as hilarious as ever and thrown into yet another trapped mystery this time on a train. I enjoyed how witty it was and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble he and Juliette will end up in next.
