She watched as he stepped closer, heart fluttering oddly in her chest and feeling a heat just underneath her skin. It was all a new experience for her, sensations that she hadn't ever experienced and couldn't begin to explain. She blinked slowly and looked up at the larger man. He was tall. And handsome. So very handsome. It took a second for the words to filter through her brain and manage a proper response. Want and need. The words shouldn't have been as tempting as they were. Tempting for what? She didn't know, but she felt the pull to listen to the man and give in to what it was he was saying. Confusion knitted her brow, a little pout on her lips as she tried to figure out what he was saying and why it had created this feeling deep within. Erica had always been a good girl. Listened to the rules, acted accordingly, and had never been truly tempted. So, she was unable to recognize it when it came rushing over her like it was now. "Like what?" An innocent enough question and meant. Erica was oblivious to the fact that it gave an opening for the man to show rather than tell.
Tumblr media
"It's nothin', sweetheart." He enjoyed the naivety, the innocence. But he had a feeling that this girl didn't know just how much she was capable of. How much she was truly missing out on. And the idea of showing her the things she'd been deprived of was too tantalizing to let pass him by. "Well either way, I can't wait to hear ya. Somethin' tells me I'll be a fan." Shane moved closer to her, his tools forgotten. His gaze remained focused on her. He was studying her, memorizing every detail, and it was difficult to look away. "You sure? Maybe there's somethin' that you can't see. But you can still feel it, ya know. Somethin' deep down inside of you. A want. A need." Shane licked his lips. The words left him feeling heated and suddenly, the room was too warm. "You're too young to think that you have all you'll ever want. There's plenty you can be learnin' and seein'." He smirked, his mind wandering. "And feelin'. But we'll save that conversation for another day."

My Ideal Eurovision 2024
Well, we've had all of the competing songs for a while now. We've ranked them, we've pit them against the 2023 songs, we've even commiserated over the Semi-Final Running Orders.
But...there is one question that I've noticed is in most Eurovision fan's head, myself included: What if MY National Final Winners Won? And that's what I'm here to share. Below, as you can see from the title, is the Eurovision 2024 had all my National Final winners were selected.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a ranking. I'll have conclusions toward the end of the post. Countries are listed in alphabetical order. I won't change internal selections because that takes up way too much time that I really don't have. And, since this is FOR FUN, if a country has 2 songs that I liked equally, I include both. LET'S GO!
Albania: "Jetën N'skaj" by Erina & The Elementals (unknown placement) Armenia: "Jako" by Ladavina (Internally Selected) Australia: "One Milkali (One Blood)" by Electric Fields (Internally Selected) Austria: "We Will Rave" by Kaleen (Internally Selected) Belgium: "Before The Party's Over" by Mustii (Internally Selected) Croatia: "Rim Tim Tagi Dim' by Baby Lasagna (1st in NF)/"Voljena ženo" by Damir Kedžo (4th in NF) Cyprus: "Liar" by Silia Kapsis (Internally Selected) Czechia: "Red Flag Parade" by MYDY (3rd in NF) Denmark: "Sand" by Saba (1st in NF) Estonia: "My Friend" by Ollie (2nd in NF) Finland: "Dancing With Demons" by Cyan Kicks (4th in NF) France: "Mon Amour" by Slimane (Internally Selected) Georgia: "Firefighter" by Nusta (Internally Selected) Germany: "Naiv" by Marie Reim (6th in NF) Greece: "Zari" by Marina Satti (Internally Selected) Iceland: "Scared Of Heights" by Hera Björk (1st in NF)/"Wild West" by Bashar Murad (2nd in NF) Ireland: "Love Me Like I Do" by Erica-Cody (4th in NF) Italy: "Tu No" by Irama (5th in NF) Latvia: "Heaven's Raining Down On Me" by Patrīcija Spale (NQ in NF Semi) Lithuania: "Luktelk" by Silvester Belt (1st in NF) Luxembourg: "Drowning In The Rain" by Krick (2nd in NF) Malta: "Wild Card" by Gail (11th in NF) Moldova: "In The Middle" by Natalia Barbu (1st in NF) Netherlands: "Europapa" by Joost Klein (Internally Selected) Norway: "Heart On Fire" by Myra (NQ in NF Semi) Poland: "The Tower" by Luna (Internally Selected*) *I know some songs were released, but it was an internal selection* Portugal: "You Can't Hide" by Filipa (10th in NF Semi, NQ) San Marino: "11:11" by Megara (1st in NF*) *I didn't rank the NF songs since UVPSM happened in a literal blink* Serbia: "Ramonda" by Teya Dora (1st in NF)/"Duga je noć" by Filip Baloš (10th in NF Semi, NQ) Slovenia: "Veronika" by Raiven (Internally Selected) Spain: "Sé quién soy" by Angy Fernández (3rd in NF)/"Here To Stay" by Sofia Coll (7th in NF) Sweden: "Awful Liar" by Lisa Ajax (11th in NF) Switzerland: "The Code" by Nemo (Internally Selected) Ukraine: "Teresa & Maria" by alyona alyona/Jerry Heil (1st in NF)/"Dreamer" by Mélovin (3rd in NF) United Kingdom: "Dizzy" by Olly Alexander (Internally Selected)
Conclusions: Even with my NF winners, it still would have been a stacked year (bad bias joke, you can laugh now). But being honest, I think out of all of these, Belgium still would have been my winner. Serbia still would have scored well. The only threat I see to Belgium would be if Luxembourg had chosen Krick.

Jeffrey Banks (November 3, 1955) is a fashion designer and author who has been described as a major African American fashion maker.
He worked as a design assistant to Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. He has claimed credit for Klein’s logo garments, stating that he had the logo from a press folder silkscreened onto the sleeve of a brown T-shirt as a present for Klein. The gift was assumed by Barry K. Schwartz to be part of the upcoming line, and similar shirts formed the uniform for the front-of-house staff at Klein’s next catwalk show, leading to the buyers asking to purchase them.
He launched his name label in New York City in 1977, according to his official website, although some sources state 1978. By 1996, suits, shirts, eyewear, and accessories from Jeffrey Banks Ltd. and Jeffrey Banks International were being sold worldwide with sales of about $20 million.
As an author, he has co-authored three fashion books with Doria de la Chapelle for Rizzoli, including a 2007 book on tartan, and a 2011 book on the preppy style. The second book led to Banks and de la Chapelle collaborating with Erica Lennard on Perry Ellis: an American original, the first in-depth monograph on his former friend and colleague, the designer Perry Ellis, published in 2013. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Something is Killing the Children
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

I'm looking at building yet another module — this one based on the VCA Moritz Klein and Erica Synths put out as an educational kit — so I just spent a couple of hours doing one of the most tedious parts of this whole hobby, matching resistors.
To explain, resistors (and some other parts) come in varying grades of tolerance — how close they're guaranteed to be to the value printed on them. Back in the '50s and '60s, what hobbyists could get were usually 10% tolerance, or within ±10% of the stated value; if you had a 1000 ohm resistor at that tolerance, it could actually be anywhere from 900 to 1100 ohms. As processes improved, you could more easily get 5% parts, then 1% parts, at cheap prices and easy availability.
(You'd always been able to pay more for higher precision, and that's partially due to fancier processes and partially due to binning. See, the factory would make up a batch, and then test them. The ones that were within 1%, they'd put in the 1% bin, and the ones that were within 5%, they'd put in that bin. When the processes were sloppier, you'd have a lot more of the parts fall into the looser tolerances, so you'd sell the rarer ones at a premium.)
At any rate, certain circuits need two or more resistors to be as close to the exact same resistance as possible. As a random example, think of something that's supposed to produce stereo sound, and so needs each ear's channel of sound to go through the same resistance, or you'll hear an obvious difference in volume between the two sides, like everything is suddenly off to the left somewhere. This particular circuit uses a similar mechanism in a differential amplifier — trying to make "louder" the difference between two signals — and therefore if the signals aren't treated the same beforehand, you'll get skewed results.
So I was going through a large subset of my 10kΩ, 20kΩ, and 100kΩ resistors — I need a pair of each of those for each copy of the circuit — to find resistors that are close enough together that my instruments can't tell the difference. They're all 1% parts, and at 10k I only have two decimal places to check, but it still took a long time to go enough of each value to find a few pairs of matching resistors.
When Erica Synths packaged this as a kit, they decided to forego this process and instead spring for 0.1% tolerance on those particular parts. If I've got the math right, with my ohmmeter's precision, my hand-matched parts are within 0.05% of each other. And if you're not ordering them in batches of 20,000 at a time, high precision resistors get really pricey. So time well spent, I guess?

I highly recommend the mki x es.EDU series of kits from Erica Synths.
There are a few rough edges: the official case has holes that are a very tight fit for standard M3 screws; the envelope generators swing through a higher CV range than "standard" eurorack EGs (and the max voltage in looping mode is different to single trigger mode)*; the sample & hold module is picky about external clocks and can take two or three clock periods to converge to the input voltage if the clock peaks aren't high enough and/or the clock pulses aren't high enough; using modern rosin-core lead-free solder I've had much cleaner builds with the iron at 400°C rather than the lower temperature suggested in the manuals.
But the manuals are absolutely awesome, and walk you through exactly how all the building blocks of each design function. Even if you do screw up, the debugging and fixing process is just all the more reason to dig deeper into the designs, and git gud at soldering. By the end you'll have a monosynth with filter, noise generator, wave folder, five step sequencer with reset, two loopable EGs, two VCAs, a mixer, sample & hold with slew limiter, and maybe other things I'm forgetting.
Oh, and you can now buy the whole thing, both preassembled (but that rather defeats the point!) or as a complete bundle of all kits in the series.
* That can be fixed by adding a bunch of extra resistors - my first ever synth mod, and something I would never have known how to to beforehand. https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3810745#p3810745
I've ordered a soldering iron.
I'm pretty excited to start learning how to solder and learn about electronics. Im anxious about my modular synth end goal and im Definitely not taking steps to becoming a protogen, I just wanna learn how to solder stuff. Normal stuff. Regular human stuff like synthesizers no need to read into this at all
