Being invested in the story of Epithet Erased with limited awareness of Anime Campaign lore means I know just enough to be a spoiler risk to the fans going in fully blind while oblivious to most of what actually happens in AC, which makes the AC enjoyers a spoiler risk to me. So I literally can't talk about my little mental corkboard full of conspiracy theories with anyone. Because of spoilers going both ways.

Penelope & Athena headcanons because a certain moot (yes it's YOU @dootznbootz) infected my brain with them :)
Athena knew of Penelope before Odysseus, as she is the patron of Sparta and has been watching the Spartan royal lineage for the longest time.
Weaving is Athena's love language, and she weaved with Penelope a lot as the princess grows up. Don't tell Artemis and Persephone this, but Athena enjoys this activity with Penelope more because she is actually skilled with it and is delightful to teach.
In the Hyacinthia festival, women would offer their woven chiton to Apollo. Athena would not shut up about how Penelope's chiton is the prettiest out of the bunch and Apollo rolled his eyes like, "Yeah, yeah, I know your human is the best weaver. How about I give you her chiton???"
Aside weaving, Athena also trained Penelope in sport and some fighting skills. As a girl, Penelope isn't required to undergo heavy military training, but she still must participate in physical training to stay fit.
They play a lot of petteia (an ancient Greek board game). Penelope is smart but never stood a chance against the goddess of wisdom herself, but she's too competitive to give up. Athena very much indulged her lmao
They talked about their family a lot, from their sisters' silly frolics to their brothers' stupid antics. Penelope is one of the few who knows how much of a gossiper Athena actually is.
Mutual understanding over bystander's guilt. Athena witnessed Persephone getting kidnapped as a young goddess and Penelope saw Helen getting stolen away as a child. Both failed to save them and had dreamt of being able to do something, anything to stop the tragedy.
Silly arguments about whether saltwater or freshwater is better between half-Naiad Penelope and half-Oceanid Athena (Metis was an Oceanid and Athena had lots of connection with the ocean)
One time Athena took Penelope to the mouth of the Eurotas River at the Laconian Gulf to settle the debate by swimming and... taste testing the water.
They finally found a common ground in deciding that the brackish water at estuaries isn't actually as great as they thought. And so they decided to respect each other's opinion.
In another universe where Odysseus never came to Sparta, Athena welcomes Penelope to become her priestess.
Despite not having the best relationship with Aphrodite, Athena still brings herself to ask the goddess for tips and helps on how to matchmake Penelope with Odysseus when she found out her two pets are smitten with each other.
"Do you think I just start a fight between them so they get to speak directly?" - "Athena, sweetie, just no."
A lot of people joke about Athena thinking Odysseus gave birth to Telemachus via his head because that's how she was born, but we don't talk much about Athena's potential hidden trauma of her father swallowing her mother before that.
Even though Athena knows Odysseus would rather die than hurt Penelope, there's a tingling intrusive thought at the back of her head that she should keep an eye just to ensure the smallest of chance wouldn't happen.
When Penelope went into labor, Athena dragged Artemis to support her. The composed goddess lowkey panicked when her pet human is giving birth lol
Penelope called Athena by her epithet "Soteira" (Saviour) two times in her life: when Helen was stolen by Theseus and when Helen was taken by Paris which led to Odysseus having to leave for war.
It was a half desperate cry for help, half bitter sarcasm that The Saving Goddess could not save those whom she claimed to watch over, and not to mention Athena was part of the Golden Apple drama that eventually led to Helen being given to Paris.
Athena was immensely guilty for having a hand in the events that led to Penelope having to watch her husband depart for war and Telemachus having to grow up without a father. She tried to spend as much time where she wasn't participating in the war as possible to help out Penelope in raising Telemachus, basically becoming a temporarily stand-in parent for the boy.
Another reason for Athena's constant involvement in Telemachus' upbringing is that, deep down, she didn't want the boy to grow up half-orphaned like she was.
Penelope asked Athena why she didn't make the suitors suddenly choke on their food and die. Athena replied (for the 7635th time) that her father is the Lord of Xenia and her doing so would not please him.
Penelope: We can stage it like an accident.
Athena: I already told you, I cannot violate my father's domain!
Penelope: You started a rebellion against your father but draw the line at making a guest die because it'll disrespect him???
Athena: ... Be quiet.

Plague in the Ancient & Medieval World
The word 'plague', in defining a lethal epidemic, was coined by the physician Galen (l. 130-210 CE) who lived through the Antonine Plague (165 - c. 180/190 CE) but the disease was recorded long before in relating the affliction of the Plague of Athens (429-426 BCE) which killed many of the city's inhabitants, including the statesman Pericles (l. 495-429 BCE). This epidemic, and some of the others that followed, may or may not have been actual plague as it was later defined; ancient writers tended to use the term plague for any widespread outbreak of pestilence.
Plagues certainly may have existed prior to the Athenian outbreak – and almost certainly did – but most studies of the epidemic begin with Athens as it is the first recorded by an eyewitness and survivor, the historian Thucydides (l. 460/455 - 399/398 BCE). Plagues are routinely named either for the person who reported them, the monarch at the time of the outbreak, the region afflicted, or by an epithet as in the case of the Black Death.
The major recorded plagues of the ancient and medieval world are:
Plague of Athens
Antonine Plague
Plague of Cyprian
Plague of Justinian
Roman Plague
Near East Plagues
Black Death
Columbian Exchange Epidemics
Of these, the Columbian Exchange Epidemics are not considered plague as they were a sweeping contagion of smallpox and other diseases but were just as lethal to the indigenous people of the Americas as plague was elsewhere. Other epidemics not considered plagues but which still ravaged populations were leprosy – especially during the 11th century CE in Europe – and the Japanese smallpox epidemic of 735-737 CE. Epidemics and pandemics continued into the modern era and, among the deadliest, were the 1918-1919 CE Spanish Flu epidemic and the HIV/AIDS epidemic (1981-present) though there were many others. At the time of this writing, the Covid-19/coronavirus is proving itself the latest addition to the list of most lethal pandemics in world history.
Nature & Types of Plague
The cause of the plague was unknown until the 19th century CE when the bacterium Yersinia pestis was isolated and identified in 1894 CE. Prior to that time, plague was thought to be supernatural in origin, a punishment from the gods or God, and/or the result of a population's sin. The actual cause was Yersinia pestis which was carried in the fleas of rodents, most often rats, which transmitted the bacterium to humans through bites. Other animals could catch the plague by eating rats – or other rodents – which were infected and this would lead to an epizootic outbreak which then spread to human beings. People die of the plague because of the toxic nature of Yersinia pestis which compromises one's immune system while, at the same time, multiplying in the body. Since the compromised immune system can no longer fight against the toxins, the person dies.
Plague is always described as beginning with symptoms resembling the flu, which appear, usually, 3-7 days after one has become infected. The symptoms at first are chills, body aches, fever, and overall weakness, which then progresses to vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, respiratory failure (in some cases), and death. The three types of plague are:
Bubonic: caused by the bite of a carrier flea. This plague attacks the lymph nodes, inflaming them, and the swollen nodes are then called buboes, hence the name.
Septicemic: caused by either an infected flea or contact with an infected animal. It attacks by entering the bloodstream and multiplying.
Pneumonic: caused by contact with an infected animal and spreads person-to-person through coughing. It attacks the lungs, rapidly multiplying, which triggers an immuno-response eventually shutting the lungs down and leaving the person to die of respiratory failure.
Of the following, the first three may or may not have been plague. Descriptions of them by eyewitnesses suggest they may have been typhus or smallpox outbreaks but could have been plague.

Harrow the Ninth audiobook, Act 3
Harrow's memory of Crux giving her advice about her hallucinations just does not hit the same with the Moira Quirk Crux voice. When I was reading, at this point I was like, hmm, maybe I should reevaluate Crux slightly, but with the audiobook, the voice just sounds very incongruous
When Harrow talks to Ianthe about seeing G1deon with Cytherea's corpse, no precise description is in the text of the book, but it sounds like Ianthe expected something a lot worse than Harrow described, and then later Harrow tells John that she saw him "kissing" the corpse. Did Harrow actually just get all morally outraged about just a kiss?
I can't remember if I commented on it before, but Harrow says about G1deon that it was "as if he'd carried the name of a dead family pet" and I can't tell if this is some reaction that has something to do with Gideon or if she actually just thinks of Ortus as a "dead family pet"
John talks about G1deon killing Wake as if he were actually there when it happened, but he can't possibly have been, could he? If he wasn't there when Wake died, and had no idea that G1deon was having an affair with her, what does he actually know about how G1deon felt about killing her? He's not exactly a talkative guy. Mercy and Augustine knew that talking about Wake would get him to leave later on, too, but I don't think they were sharing a lot of info on her - he didn't know why Wake had a baby with her, for example
At some point a biscuit that was given to Harrow is described as a "repeatedly uneaten biscuit" which is definitely something
I can't remember if I noticed this the first time, but Harrow intentionally put all of G1deon's least favorite vegetables in the Trojan Soup so that he would eat more of the broth, haha
"The First Reborn" is used as an epithet for John at one point. Is John meant to have resurrected himself in the mythology?
After the Soup Incident, Augustine is looking "as if he had seen the ghost of someone he did not particularly like" which make me wonder what kind of stuff Anastasia got up to at Canaan House
Mayonnaise Uncle is in Harrow's River bubble, and he's acting just like himself, which I realize now must mean that his soul did not actually get consumed or corrupted by a devil thing after Colum's death. If they can really just infect anyone they injure, as is implied at the end of Nona, I wonder how he avoided that, since devil!Colum very much did fatally injure him
I pointed out before that later on in the River bubble they wind up congregating in the Second Lyctor lab, which seems to be relatively safe from Wake possibly because it belonged to G1deon and Pyrrha, but in this earlier part of the book they are also taking refuge in the quarters given to Judith and Marta as being the least leaky, and now I sort of wonder if they were given those rooms because they also had something to do with G1deon and Pyrrha and that's also why they're the least leaky in Harrow's bubble
Magnus, on the bad weather in the bubble: "It'll be a damned sight worse in the River." You know he's just extremely disappointed that Harrow is not able to see the joke, since I'm pretty sure both he and Abigail know what's up by this point
On Corona's "death" Abigail says "If she's gone, then perhaps that means--" and never finishes. I wonder if this is Abigail figuring out that Corona may still be alive
Ianthe says, "I wish killing [Naberius] had given me his needlepoint, too." I am actually kind of curious why it didn't, unless she means like, the actual physical pieces of clothing he embroidered or whatever and not the skill?
Harrow thinks she looks like her mother in the dress Ianthe makes for her, and then immediately says "I look like am imbecile." I know most people don't usually have positive thoughts about their mothers' senses of fashion, but even so this seems a little harsh
Augustine claims to be helping Harrow kill G1deon "for reasons of my own" and says that "he has caused me more pain over this past scant 40 years than I care to admit." When I read this originally, I just figured, of course Augustine dislikes G1deon, all my homies hate G1deon, because he'd said like three total words of dialog the whole book and done nothing but try to kill Harrow, but now I'm actually curious about this. Since they've known each other for 10,000 years and it's only the past 40 that have been a problem, this can't just be Augustine and G1deon not getting along for personality reasons the way that Augustine and Mercy don't get along (and also, Augustine never actually conspires to kill Mercy) so now I'm curious about what sort of falling-out happened between Augustine and G1deon in the last 40 years. I don't think it's just that Augustine was plotting with Mercy to kill John and G1deon was loyal to John, because I think Augustine and Mercy have been plotting to kill John for a lot more than 40 years. Was 40 years ago maybe when Wake first started to become relevant? Maybe Augustine and Mercy secretly conspiring with Wake to kill John at the same time that G1deon and Pyrrha were secretly fucking Wake caused some encounters between them that Augustine misinterpreted, honestly there could probably have been some hilarious Shakespeare-level dramatic irony here
Augustine says that Cristabel was a fanatic, which seems accurate to the account in Nona, but what was the object of her fanaticism after John resurrected everyone with no memory of Christianity? Although... Cristabel did help found the Eighth House, which honestly might sort of explain some things
John thinks BOE finding out about resurrection beasts must have been "an intelligence effort" since the resurrection beasts are classified information within the Nine Houses, which is hilarious as a concept after reading Nona, and G1deon does in fact correct him here that the only piece of actual intelligence they would have had to learn was where the fuck they came from
Ianthe goes on while drunk about being Harrow's sister, and it seems clear that she really wants Harrow to be like a replacement Corona
Harrow is mystified about why there is an incinerator on the Mithraeum and this question is ultimately never answered, although I guess it's possible that there will be an answer in the fourth book
When Pyrrha says "ba--" when talking to Harrow, it is not pronounced like the first syllable of "baby", which is kind of odd, since that's definitely what she was going to say. And she does definitely say she can feel Wake near or in Harrow, even though Wake is clearly in Cytherea's body at this point, furthering my suspicions that part of Wake's soul may still be in Gideon's sword even after Cytherea's body was shot at the end of the book. The voice also isn't different yet, but she is pretending to be G1deon here

[You time jump into a Used-To-Be Dalek controlled planet, after wondering how someone that wasn't you, or another iteration of you, could have removed the infection.
The moment you step out you see a Sevcon Operative with the nameplate 'Katie Clone C-23-Kepler-Kepler' shoot a Dalek.
The moment the bullet that comes out of the interesting looking gun touches the Dalek, it is thrown back, hitting a wall.
But something weird happens.
The moment it hits the wall, it falls into pieces.
Sevcon made an AI-Controlled NanoBot Gun that disintegrates the bolts that hold things together.
It disassembled the Dalek while it was flying through the air.
The clone then grabs HUNDREDS of other disassembled Daleks with telekinetically controlled NanoBots, putting the pieces together into three VERY large rings.
The rings begin spinning and flying, stabilizing themselves around the clone.
They're the first design of the Sevcon WarpJump Ring System.
You NEED to stop this clone.
And you only have ten seconds until the warp is completed.
And then she notices you.]

Selections from “Blade Runner: A Movie” by William S. Burroughs.
Though the film took its name from this booklet, it is otherwise unrelated to this story of the year 2014 when pandemics run rampant though a health-care crisis America and scalpel smugglers (blade runners) are our only hope. I couldn’t find the passage about terrorism with herds of leprosy-infected armadillos and can’t include some of the most on-topic parts due to the author’s unfathomably crass approach to racial and lgbt matters and epithets, but when it comes to predicting the future, sadly this deals with stuff so close to home it’s disturbing he wrote it in the 1970s.
I do not recommend this book for people new to Burroughs and how his mind works. I’d have to spend an hour writing content warnings. But if you want to read some fucked up horrid shit from one of the most spectacularly diseased minds of all time…

If athy main flower is roses then wich one is jennette's?
Officially? I believe it's marguerite daisies. They are in her name, on her dresses, all around her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the language of flowers, daisies symbolize new beginnings and rebirth, in addition to love, cheerfulness, beauty, purity, innocence, hope, fun, and affection. They’re also commonly given to new mothers as a symbol of childbirth and motherhood. In spirituality, daisies represent faith and eternal life. One of the earliest associations of daisies with childbirth comes from the ancient Celtic people. Although it’s darker than the symbolism of motherhood and childbirth attributed to daisies today, the ancient Celts believed that when a child or infant died – especially in childbirth – the gods would cover their graves with daisies in an attempt to console those who were grieving the loss. Another early association of daisies with childbirth comes from Norse mythology. The daisy flower is associated with the goddess Freya who is a goddess of fertility, love, and beauty.
If you ask me I find Athy's association with roses a bit boring and cliche. Roses are beautiful but nearly every female lead has roses drawn around her. If it was ever special it's not anymore. Regarding Jennette and daisies I feel a similar way. It fits 50/50 I guess but the meaning is so universal it could also be applied to Athy. I like to associate Jennette with Angel trumpets and lp Athy with Bleeding Hearts.
Angel's Trumpet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brugmansia suaveolens, Brazil's white angel trumpet, also known as angel's tears and snowy angel's trumpet. The Latin specific epithet suaveolens means “with a sweet fragrance”. Every part of Brugmansia suaveolens is poisonous, with the seeds and leaves being especially dangerous. Ingestion of the plants can cause disturbing hallucinations, seizures, paralysis, coma, memory loss, and death. Angel's trumpets are so lethal that they have been used throughout history and literature as a means of killing a person or committing suicide. Supposedly, it was even used as an execution drug for criminals. Traditional external uses have included the treating of aches and pains, headaches, infections, and as an anti-inflammatory. They have been used internally much more rarely due to the inherent dangers of ingestion. Brugmansia is a symbol of danger, but it also represents vivacity. It is thought to be heralding a time of transformation and rebirth.
Devil's Trumpet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Datura is a genus of poisonous flowering plants belonging to the family Solanaceae. Throughout history, there have been stories about this plant being used to make poisons, witches' brews or love potions. Due to its toxicity and the shape of the flowers, they were granted the common name of Devil’s Trumpet. In some religions and cultures, Datura symbolizes a powerful and dangerous plant. Pictured above is the Purple Queen Devil's Trumpet.

Do you think people would start to form superstitions around akumas?
Maybe people start using epithets in conversation—butterflies, sprites, fairies—in fear that speaking the true name of the creature will cause one to appear. It's not called akumatization, it's called "catching", or "getting bitten", almost like a sickness or infection.
People start to form habits that they think will decrease their chances of "catching", waiting until odd hours to go outside or avoiding districts where "catching" is most common.
The rumor spreads that akumas infect through skin? People start covering themselves head to toe in whatever they can find, or simply staying home on hotter days.
Or maybe the "catching" needs a sentimental object? People stop accessorizing or carrying things of value, and what they have to have with them is kept safe in zipped-up pockets or beneath jackets.
In the windowsills of shops and doorways of houses, ceramic ladybugs or bug-themed kitsch start to crop up like an infection all their own. People like to think that maybe the presence of a ladybug is enough to scare an akuma off. They start sharing how to make DIY dreamcatchers or windchimes to hang by every window in your house. Good luck charms will be made and distributed in their own secret little market, small polka-dotted rosary beads traded as both gifts and a sign of compassion.

ship: 🐚 best ocean friends (Rick Shades & Amica Nemona)
summary: Rick and Amica experience their first rain on the surface.
warnings: mild spoilers for "Epithet Erased: Prison of Plastic"
author's notes: We're late, but who cares!
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that Sweet Jazz City was located in Taiga Country, which was known to have cold winters, the summers here were pretty hot too. At least, for an ex-ocean dweller like Amica. But now it was autumn, and the summer heat simmered down, only spiking up on some days before it goes away completely until next year. Amica picked one of the cooler days do go to the beach to collect new supplies for her magic: salt water, seaweed and sea glass (believe it or not, it was an ingredient for some of the spells in her book).
It was cloudy, so the sand didn't scorch her feet like she hated. She took off her shoes and left them on a logical distance, so that no wave could wash them away by accident. She walked down the shoreline and, after a minute, found a piece of beautiful purple sea glass. As she was about to bend down to it, she heard a voice calling out to her.
"AMICA!!!" the voice screamed in panic.
When the girl turned towards the voice, she saw a very tiny Rick Shades in the distance, running towards her surprisingly fast with an expression of shock. Huh. So he was in panic after all. He quickly went from tiny to normal-sized as he got close and panted. Rick spoke before she could ask him what was wrong.
"What are you doing near the ocean?! You're not leaving, are you?!" He was loud, afraid, but Amica was able to catch a tinge of sadness in his voice as well.
"What? Never!" She took one of his hands, then puffed up her cheeks. "I'll only come back down there to take down the ruler. No, right now I'm just collecting some ingredients. Like this!" Amica showed him the sea glass she was holding in her other hand.
After hearing his friend's explanation, Rick got much less tense and gave an admiring "Ooo!" at the sight of the purple object. "Can I help?" He smiled excitedly, and Amica imagined that Rick would've wagged his tail if he had one. She giggled.
"Sure. I'd like to hang out with you more." After all, she still had to get to know this "Rick Shades" guy, who was both new and familiar to her.
They walked along the shore, collecting different things most surface people would consider garbage. Well, Amica walked, and Rick was running around like a crazy bloodhound, sniffing out any pieces of sea glass, as well as just pretty rocks and seashells. She didn't need these for spells, but she took them anyway simply because she liked them. They were Rick's gifts in a way.
They didn't notice the sea getting darker, the sky getting greyer. But then the wind blew stronger than before, the waves crashed louder onto the sandy shore. Wind wasn't something they got under the ocean. Without exchanging a word, both of them looked at the sea, which was getting stormier by the minute. In a way, it was a beautiful display. Something they've never seen before.
"Is this what storms look like from the surface?" Amica asked, as if Rick could give her an answer. But he couldn't.
So they stood there, quietly. And then something weird happened: both of them felt water fall on them. The two simultaneously looked to the sky. Tiny droplets of water were falling on them and on the sand around them. At first they thought that it was the wind bringing these droplets from the sea, but before they could think about it any further, the few droplets turned into many, and it poured.
"W-what is this?" Rick questioned, trying to cover himself and his friend from the unknown phenomenon with his arms. He didn't know what it was, so he assumed it might be dangerous. It pained Amica to think why he reacted like this. Then again, she was as confused as he was.
"I... don't know." She hesitated, then stepped out from under Rick's covering arm. Rick flinched when she did that, but she let the water droplets run across her face. And she was unharmed. It was like... a shower, but from the sky. Something clicked. "I think that's what our ancestors meant by 'rain'. I've read about it in my book."
"Rain..." Rick pronounced this word slowly, as if trying to taste it. Seeing Amica being so brave, he slowly lowered his arms and faced the rain. It felt... surprisingly nice. Something from home, but much more distant. Much safer.
A loud crackle and a booming noise caught up to Rick and Amica from the sea. Some people compared Rick's powers to a thunder, and now he heard it live, from the surface, and not through a thick layer of water. It really does sound like that, he thought. It sounded like his power. It felt like power. It was familiar to Rick. But to Amica, the sound coming from the endless horizon felt ominous. Like a threat... or a warning. Like the ocean swore to swallow the two runaways back into its abyss. She took Rick's hand.
"Let's go hide under a roof," she asked.
He flinched again, surprised by the gesture. But her hand felt warm in his. He rubbed it slightly with his thumb.
"Is something wrong?" He could sense Amica's tension. Call it a friend's intuition. Rick didn't know if this came from his Epithet or not.
Amica smiled, warmed by how considerate and caring he was despite this wild and confusing façade.
"We're gonna be as wet as when we came here if we don't." She laughed. "Wait, we need to get my shoes first."

new epithet erased/anime campaign oc based on the epithet "consumption!!" info on them under the cut <3
Mori Terabye (they/he) is an Epithet user whose Epithet is "Consumption." They've been somewhat sickly since they were a child, but it's gotten worse for them over time. They had their Epiphany after learning that they could create mysterious voids that "consume" objects - the realization that they'd been coughing up blood all their life help them mentally connect consuming things and "The Consumption", also known as Tuberculosis.
He doesn't have TB, technically; it's a weird Epithet magic situation. His Epithet happens to affect the inside of his body in a way that presents itself like the notorious infection. When making his little voids, he also has the ability to "eat" them before they disappear entirely. It helps him feel significantly better, but he doesn't exactly know how that works. Epithet magic is weird, man.
They enjoy fencing and do it on the professional level. Their lithe body makes it easy to dodge the swipes and slashes typical of swordfights, even if they do need a minute to catch their breath after a match.
so that's it!! my little guy!!!! i started making a character sheet for them but i don't have anyone that i know could gm a session of anime campaign so i have to refrain from finishing it. i don't know how to properly balance a ttrpg moveset :(
i gotta get more people into epithet tbh. ive been assigning them to some of my friends and im super attached to this idea of a campaign with my besties but its kinda unachievable without a gm </3
anyway. hope you enjoyed the art and loredump :D
