Aug 20, 2024
These days, tech companies are publicly warming up to the defense sector. Department of Defense spending is increasingly going to large tech companies including Microsoft, Google parent company Alphabet, Oracle, and IBM. Open AI recently brought on former U.S. Army general and National Security Agency Director Paul M. Nakasone to its Board of Directors. And a growing clan of Silicon Valley-based “techno-patriots,” including the likes of Anduril’s Palmer Luckey and Andreessen-Horowitz’s Marc Andreessen, seem eager to prove that the technology industry can alleviate the United States’ geostrategic and economic weaknesses — if awarded the military contracts to do so.
But the increasingly public relationship Silicon Valley enjoys with the Pentagon is no sudden development. Rather, Silicon Valley was made by — and in the service of — a U.S. government and military eager to establish dominance over its adversaries in the Cold War and beyond. Namely, extensive and consistent post-war era government funds, and especially military contracting, overhauled the American technology industry, transforming the once-quiet region surrounding Mountain View, California into the bustling tech metropolis it is today.
A (military) history of Silicon Valley
Tech industry enthusiasts are eager to attribute Silicon Valley’s success to free market entrepreneurship, where great ideas born in suburban California garages took off through hard work and grit. In reality, regional post-war era entrepreneurs and researchers had help from a U.S. government eager to spend on research and development: in a sustained Cold War with the Soviet Union, competition in the technology, space, and arms sectors was stiff.
In time, Cold War era government R&D spending, which came primarily from DOD and NASA, crystallized what historian Margaret O’Mara describes as a “blueprint” for Silicon Valley success, where companies like Fairchild Semiconductor worked to procure outside investments, especially through government and military contracts, that nurtured and sustained growth. Through this “blueprint,” O’Mara posits that Silicon Valley-based tech companies, which had secured stability via government funding, rocked existing markets while driving the formation of new ones, thus achieving unprecedented success.

Just to be clear this award is for Tequilas brand El Tequileño. El Tequileño is crafted. Third-generation master distiller, Antonio Salles, still uses the same processes his grandfather devised to produce the brand's tequilas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, the Master @tony_salles33 announced publicly that El Tequileño tequila had a collaboration with SH, everyone knew it except SH’s fans, who still believe he’s the creator 🤫
Tumblr media
SH takes advantage of El Tequileño to his brand position, to tip the balance of competition in his favour. Whether it's in business, this advert is from his visit to Mexico, when the cultural appropriation in his entrepreneurship, touches a delicate point.
Tumblr media
Posted 15th August 2024
Tumblr media
@corgydes SH purchased a limited-release reposado tequila from El Tequileño in two batches. The first batch was released in November 2021, and the second and final batch was released in February 2022. There will be no more releases, as the production was limited to a specific number of bottles and the collaboration for this tequila is concluded, with the casks destroyed. This is a business relationship, and Sam still has several bottles of tequila that have to sell.
@corgydes It refers to the award "el_tequileno" brand can enter its tequilas into any competition to win awards. It has 16 different tequilas, and one of them is Sassenach tequila. However, not all of its tequilas are entered into the same competitions at the same time. This means that if "el_tequileno" presents Sassenach tequila in another competition, it might win another award, or it might not.
Regarding potential future collaborations with SH, "el_tequileno" is very selective about its tequilas. The owner initially stood firm and did not create a brand for SH; instead, a special batch was made and will continue to be called “El Tequileño." If there might be another collaboration with SH in the future, it would need to meet "el_tequileno's" conditions. In the special batch created for SH (Outlander fans market) There are still unsold bottles of tequila, and it remains to be seen if "el_tequileno" would be interested in any collaboration after Outlander ends.

The City of St. Louis has ceremonially renamed a portion of Washington Avenue in honor of hometown supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss in the heart of St. Louis' Garment District.
Kloss, who grew up in Webster Groves, unveiled Karlie Kloss Way on Monday at 16th Street and North Washington Avenue.
Kloss has appeared on more than 40 international Vogue covers, hosted the reality competition television series "Project Runway," created a coding camp for girls and runs several business ventures.
“This moment is so meaningful to me," Kloss said. "My family has been proudly rooted in the Midwest for generations, and no matter how far I travel, my beloved St. Louis is always home in my heart. The spirit of St. Louis has shaped me into who I am today, so I carry those community and family values everywhere I go. It’s very full circle — and quite surreal — to forever have a part of me in my hometown.”
The street naming event was coordinated by the St. Louis Fashion Fund, an advocacy group for more than 800 fashion-related businesses. Both Kloss and fashion writer Derek Blasberg, who spoke at the event, have received the fund's highest awards for their contributions to the fashion industry.
"The decision to name a street in Karlie's honor was because of her continued support of the Fashion Fund, fashion and the arts. We consider her to be a St Louis icon," said Susan Sherman, co-founder and board chair, of St. Louis Fashion Fund. Additionally, Blasberg, whom Kloss refers to as her "big brother," loved the idea of the street renaming, she added.
In order to have the street renamed, the Fund worked through the local alderwoman, who proposed it for a vote before the full Board of Aldermen in St. Louis. It easily passed.
The fund supports students, designers, emerging brands and established brands. Its mission is to help promote job creation and economic growth. The organization mentors local creatives and partners with funding groups such as Arch Grants to boost fashion entrepreneurship and scholarships for aspiring fashion designers.
The fund also runs a Speaking of Fashion speaker series spotlighting global fashion icons who share the vibrancy of the St. Louis fashion scene into the national conversation. Fashion Fund's goal is to bring the business of fashion back to St. Louis and regain its status as a fashion capital.

Reflections on Exploring the Hustle: A Personal Insight 2
Technopreneurship Blogs Week 3-4 | Sept 16 - 23 | 2024
Tumblr media
As I walked through the bustling corridors of the mall, each business seemed to have its own unique story—stories built on hard work, perseverance, and a deep sense of pride. It’s easy to overlook these local brands, but this recent experience made me realize just how much passion and dedication fuel these businesses.
Here’s what I personally learned:
Transfer It: Turning Personalization into an Art
Tumblr media
Visiting Transfer It felt like stepping into a creative playground. The variety of options—from heat transfer t-shirts to mugs and tote bags—reminded me how businesses thrive by offering people a chance to express themselves. In today’s world, where everything feels mass-produced, Transfer It stood out for letting customers be part of the creative process. Their concept of combining letters with prints to craft personalized items really struck a chord with me. It’s like they're giving people the tools to showcase their individuality. I could see why they’ve become so popular nationwide—it's a blend of convenience, creativity, and customer involvement that makes personalization more than just a service; it’s an art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Papelemento: Crafting More than Just Gifts
Tumblr media
Meeting the team at Papelemento made me realize that some businesses go beyond just selling products; they tell a story through each piece. Their awards, plaques, and sculptures felt like tangible expressions of creativity and craftsmanship. I was impressed by their dedication to ensuring every item was personalized and made with care. Working hand in hand with various industries, they’ve built a strong reputation, but what really stuck with me was their genuine commitment to transparency and flexibility. They aren’t just crafting souvenirs; they’re creating experiences that people will cherish for a long time. It made me appreciate the thoughtfulness behind every detail, especially in a world that sometimes values speed over quality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mugna Leather Arts: A Legacy of Handmade Craftsmanship
Tumblr media
The visit to Mugna Leather Arts hit closer to home, not just because of their beautiful handcrafted leather goods, but also because of the family story behind it. There’s something so special about businesses that pass down traditions through generations, like the Pagaling family has done with Mugna. It’s not just about the wallets, bags, or sandals they create—it’s about keeping a cultural legacy alive. Hearing about their commitment to employing local townspeople and continuing to honor Cebuano heritage felt inspiring. It reminded me that businesses aren’t just about profits; they’re about people, community, and preserving something greater than just products. This is the kind of entrepreneurship I hope to be part of—one that creates, sustains, and gives back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dal Arms Sports House: Preserving a Legacy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I learned about the history behind Dal Arms Sports House, it struck a chord with me. The fact that the current owner chose to continue the business after the original owner passed away shows a deep respect for legacy. Dal Arms isn’t just about selling firearms and accessories; it’s about continuing a tradition that’s been a part of Cagayan de Oro since the 1990s. In a way, it reminded me that businesses are often built on relationships—between owners, employees, and customers. Keeping those relationships alive is what truly sustains a brand, and Dal Arms is a testament to that. It made me reflect on how important it is to honor where we come from, especially when venturing into business.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Final Thoughts: Learning from the Stories of these Businesses
What I took away from visiting these businesses is that there’s a common thread that ties them all together—passion, resilience, and a sense of purpose beyond just making money. Each one has found its way to stand out, not by being the loudest or the biggest, but by staying true to their mission and their values. Whether it's Transfer It giving people the power to express themselves, or Mugna Leather Arts creating beautiful, heirloom-worthy pieces, these brands remind me of the potential we all have to turn our passion into something tangible.
For me, these insights go beyond admiration. They serve as a source of inspiration as I continue on my own entrepreneurial path. It’s about building something meaningful, something that resonates with people. And if I can capture even a fraction of the heart these businesses pour into their work, I know I’ll be on the right track.

The Life Shift & Multispective Podcasts Cover How Trauma Can Lead To A Life Breakthrough
Tumblr media
I'm sure you've heard the expression, "Great minds think alike." Well, here's a new one for podcasting. "Great podcasts think alike."
To prove that assertion, let me point to the most recent episodes of the podcasts -- The Life Shift and Multispective.
The Life Shift, created and hosted by Matt Gilhooly has "Candid conversations with people about the pivotal moments that changed their lives forever. The Life Shift podcast highlights life-altering moments and humanizes the struggles and triumphs through them all."
Multispective, created and hosted by Jennica Sadhwani, believes "Each person has a unique story to tell. Experiences, both good and bad, shape our everyday lives. Many of us go through similar things, yet our stories are never the same."
These podcasts also share a common denominator. Both podcasts recently won the Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards announced last month.  The Life Shift won for Best Indie Podcast of the Year. Multispective won for Best Life Lessons Podcast of the Year.
On the most recent episodes of both podcasts, their themes overlapped and supported each other in life lessons and a growth mindset. The episodes obviously had different guests, but both guests went through a different life trauma and come out of it stronger and in a better place in their life.
Let's hear their stories.
Tumblr media
In July 29th the episode of Multispective, host Jennica Sadhwani sat down with Tracy McHugh, an adventurous traveler who turned a challenging year of job rejections into a flourishing entrepreneurial career. Tracy shares captivating stories from her global travels, offering invaluable tips for solo adventurers. On the episode, Tracy opened up about the trials and tribulations of facing numerous job rejections, and how these setbacks inspired her to start her own business. Tracy's journey from struggle to success highlights her resilience and innovation, providing listeners with profound insights into overcoming career obstacles and thriving as an entrepreneur.
What I found most inspiring about Tracy's story is that she overcame numerous challenges and is now a highly successful event planning consultant.
As Tracy said during the episode: "My professional career has endured a near depression in 2008 and then a global pandemic in 2020."
There are, unfortunately, too many people like Tracy who are confronted with barriers that seem insurmountable. Yet, through a belief in herself and the formation of a plan for success, Tracy McHugh took constant rejection and transformed it into a roadmap to career and personal achievement.
As Tracy knows, "The hallmark of successful people is that they are always stretching themselves to learn new things."
During the interview, host Jennica Sadhwani was the careful and empathetic navigator of Tracy's story. Jennica's questions and comments regulate the pacing and enable Tracy to reveal her narrative and share her journey.
In the Life Shift episode on July 30, 2024, Entrepreneur Robyn Daigle shared her unique journey of battling Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. This journey, filled with unexpected twists and turns, led her to shift from a corporate lifestyle to entrepreneurship. Her story is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the transformational power of life's unexpected challenges.
Tumblr media
While Tracy McHugh endures a seismic life change that lasts for years, Robyn Daigle, the guest on The Life Shift, has her world disintegrate in a matter of hours.
After experiencing a purple, numb left arm, Robyn goes to the ER during COVID. There, doctors take hours to diagnose a rare condition -- Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which is a group of conditions in which there's pressure on blood vessels or nerves in the area between the neck and shoulder. This space is known as the thoracic outlet. Compression of the blood vessels and nerves can cause shoulder and neck pain. It also can cause numbness in the fingers.
Doctors explain that treating the syndrome will be a long and painful process. Robyn undergoes several surgeries, including the removal of her first rib.
Through the surgeries, the pain, the ongoing recovery process, and the depression that results, Robyn never stopped battling. Even with limited movement in her left arm, Robyn starts a charcuterie business that takes off and is now a thriving enterprise.
"Every day, I try to bake in something for me," Robyn tells host Gilhooly near the end of the episode.
Through the interview, host Matt Gilhooly handles these delicate conversations with empathy, and a quest for more than just platitudes. Matt manages these conversations by pacing the guest's revelations, inserting his own life experiences into the discussion, and searching for the epiphany that drove his guest to overcome the trauma and reboot their life.
Check out the most recent episodes of The Life Shift and Multispective. You'll hear a story of a woman—Tracy—damaged financially and emotionally, who fought back and found a new pathway to happiness and success on her terms. Then, you'll hear about a woman—Robyn—who was damaged physically and then emotionally, but she fought back and found a new pathway to happiness and success on her terms.
The tales of these women are nurtured in the hands of two incredibly talented hosts -- Matt Gilhooly of The Life Shift and Jennica Sadhwani of Multispective.
Both Matt and Jennica would agree with the Greek philosopher Plutarch when he said, "What we change inwardly will change outer reality."

Remember SH hinted at something big for Scotland in his interview?
It's a new company called...
LATHA ÙR LTD
Tumblr media
LATHA ÙR - (Scottish Gaelic) A NEW DAY
LATHA ÙR LTD is an active private limited company, incorporated on 31 January 2023. The nature of the business is Distilling, rectifying and blending spirits. The company's registered office is on Dublin Street, Edinburgh. The company's next accounts are due on 31 October 2024 and fall under the category of the account.
Tumblr media
What does this mean?
Distilling, rectifying and blending of spirits: In this class includes the manufacture of distilled, potable, alcoholic beverages: whisky, brandy, gin, and liqueurs- manufacture of drinks mixed with distilled alcoholic beverages- blending of distilled spirits- production of neutral spirits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Memorandum of association
Tumblr media
This is a memorandum of association a type of business document that is used as part of the incorporation process to form SH's new company and helps define the relationship between that new company. A memorandum of association is required as part of the documentation required for incorporation in the United Kingdom. The essential information within a partnership memorandum focuses on stating that certain people [SH+AN] want to form a legally incorporated company and is willing to share capital to finance the company's activities. Depending on the government regulations that apply to the content of the memorandum, it may be necessary to define what the partners will receive in exchange for their investment, such as shares. It’s necessary to identify the name of the company [Latha Ùr] a permanent business address [Dublin Street, Edinburgh] and the type of company they wish to form [private Limited company]
SH said in his SMWS interview he has a couple of projects he's working on (well it seems this definitely isn’t an acting project).
His decision is not surprising, He's certainly no stranger to splashing the cash on his merchandising, but he may not be aware that other, more important things symbolise something really big for Scotland, something culturally known and teamed by Scots, but it's all become a target, his merchandise, and his friends in the Scottish media will be promoting him with free publicity.
With this entrepreneurship, SH will allow his new product development [maybe Scottish GIN] to happen in his new business. Now, will have a distillery for his alcohol may be Scottish in origin, made and distilled in his still distillery. Scotland boasts over 90 distilleries that make their gin with even more planned. This leads to the market becoming so saturated that many brands are ignored in consumer searches for Gin products, even if a newcomer to the market has exactly what the consumer is looking for. Perhaps he hopes his fans will help the company grow, as they have done so far in everything Sam does.
He wants to copy Diageo even with a similar name. Diageo is composed of the Latin word diēs, meaning "day", and the Greek root geo-, meaning "world". LATHA ÙR (Scottish Gaelic) latha, meaning “day” and ùr, meaning “new”. Or perhaps SH expects Diageo to be keen to buy his brand after acquiring spirits firms in recent months. He will spend more time in this business if he wants to secure he’s ready to start trading immediately.
Now, SH will become a member of The Gin Cooperative, where he was judging panel Gin Awards 2022, open exclusively to Scotland’s gin makers and brand owners. Members must be based in Scotland, their gins must be distilled, rectified or cold compound (complete process) in Scotland and The Gin Cooperative will help SH's new brand. I hope he has a good master's distiller. It would be a great starting point.
Everybody knows that starting a business requires cash, and growing a business requires even more—But few people understand that the period over which a company start to grow, perhaps is more than many people would expect. Therefore, while running his startup is to raise more money. This can be done by generating more revenue, with his merchandise. That is his problem without his booze... there is no money, and he can’t balance this better between these contradictions: MPC selling health and the back of the coin selling whisky and tequila that has already become clear that his ads exalt drinking and encourage people to drink alcohol.
In summary, is in the initial stages of business and much work remains to be done, still has a long way to go until his GIN comes out this summer 2023 mentioned in a video shared from a Restaurant in Santa Monica.CA with the sounds of the Pacific Ocean just outside the window, and not in Scotland.
We will see if it will capture the attention of new clients that it has in mind, but also What are his company values (or core values) the fundamental beliefs he holds to transmit to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Tumblr media
In this new venture SH was teamed with AN, a US resident considered inexperienced in the spirits business, which has one vote and equal dividend payments or any distribution, including a distribution arising from the liquidation of the company in Scotland.
SH always confuses his business relationship, and “mixes personal and professional relationships”. Friends are the companions of adventures, of good times, but would it be proper to undertake with AN? Is his friend a suitable partner? For this reason, it is important to find out which values would AN add to SH's recent company and his cultural vision of the spirits business in Scotland because he seems unreliable.
Tumblr media
Why Alex was at EDA Glasgow: in mid-January training with Valbo, while Sam was in New York. Well, perhaps he was passing through Edinburgh to provide additional information required by the agents in charge of Latha Ùr before registering the company.
Tumblr media
Now we will see AN donning a kilt at his opportunist visits to Scotland in his inauthentic knowledge of the Scottish industry.
Tumblr media
CHIENE + TAIT LLP is located at 61 Dublin Street Edinburgh-Midlothian Scotland, its accounting agent’s address, an independent firm of chartered accountants, tax advisers and business consultants based in Edinburgh, Inverness, Glasgow and London.
Tumblr media
This permanent business address it’s his commercial agent’s workplace, not a tourist attraction, filming location or SH’s place of business.
......... The Game is Afoot.
@youmademyollife This is not for Scotland, is for his business. The Scottish Distillers Association (SDA) is clear that to be a Scottish gin, it must be distilled and bottled in Scotland. If SH wants to make gin, using the term “Scottish Gin” and market it as “gin”, the product must meet the requirements established for the category in which it intends to operate. That's why he created his company in Scotland. Everyone in Scotland agrees with that. Every Scottish distiller promotes Scotland, in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
@itsmystreamofconsciousnessblog The situation differs from what you think. The owns Midhope Castle or “Lallybroch” is Hopetoun Estate, the castle is on private property. It’s not for Sale. On another hand, the interest is the sitting adjacent next to Midhope Castle. There will be a new whisky distillery on the Hopetoun estate in South Queensferry. The owner is not Diageo, the investors are others interested, and it’s not SH.
As for AN or Mohammad Ali, he has no experience in the spirits business. He’s SH’s partner with products manufactured by other companies. In a Scottish Gin distillery in Scotland, knowing is one thing and being able to communicate it to others is another kettle of fish. BTW… Every part of the business of alcohol is forbidden by his religion. Be it drinking it, making it or transporting it or selling it. So, he has no knowledge and no certain criteria to be involved in an alcohol-beverage company. Last but not least, It seems unreliable during the period surrounding his divorce.
@youmademyollife Starting a business after his spouse started a divorce, it’s an alert because he cannot spend marital assets without authorisation from the court. Until the court finalises his divorce, it could trace the funding to start the business to his marital estate. Thus, his soon-to-be ex-spouse might own half of his new business, 25%. That means SH continues with his 50% and the Norouzis 50% (25% each). She wants to be a part of the business. I agree, Sam should have prevented that, but he didn’t. SH should have learned whether he could and should have started a new business during AN’s divorce. He’s not reliable on the nowhere side.
