KSA’s Upcoming Attraction- The Leisure and Entertainment Industry! : Ken Research
Story Outline
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has allocated $ 64 billion to the Saudi Vision. It plans to invest this amount in the Leisure and Entertainment industry.
The government policies such as the upliftment of the decades long cinema ban, cashback for domestically produced films and others are stepping stones to enhance the Entertainment Sector.
The Kingdom is also investing in organizing events and festivals such as the Red Sea International Film Festival.
The recreation and tourism sectors are driving Saudi Vision 2030, with upcoming projects like Al Ula, the "Green Heart of Riyadh" (King Salman Park), and Riyadh Sports Boulevard enhancing cultural tourism and livability.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a potential hub spot for all things entertainment and leisure. The Kingdom’s intense focus on developing the entertainment and tourism sector solidifies the double digit CAGR from the year 2023 to 2027. Some key factors contributing to this growth are the high ratio of the young and middle-aged population who are tech savvy. The increased share of spending on leisure and entertainment due to increased disposable incomes and an experience mindset.
1.Changing Government Policies
Recent Trends In KSA Leisure & Entertainment Market Outlook to 2027
The Saudi government under the guidance of the Crowne prince Mohammed Bin Salman lifted the decades long cinema ban in 2017. This was a turning point for the population as well as the film and related industries in Saudi Arabia. The female population is no longer prohibited from driving and are now allowed to travel alone.
The Saudi Film Commission recently announced a 40% cash rebate on qualifying expenses during film production inside Saudi Arabia if certain conditions are met.
2.Emerging Events and Festivals
The newly-established Red Sea International Film Festival, which featured 138 films from more than 60 countries, played to thousands of attendees, many of whom were international guests.

Other festivals such as the XP Music Conference and the Soundstorm festival have helped Riyadh to establish itself as a leading music and cinema destination.
3.Thriving Recreation and Tourism Projects
The recreation and tourism sectors are the drivers of the “Saudi Vision 2030”. Thus, the Kingdom has multiple upcoming projects supporting the Vision.
Al Ula - Kingdom's hidden natural wonder, with 23,000 archaeological sites is situated 300 km north of Madinah Al Munawara. Al Ula is going to be the Kingdom’s main cultural eco-tourism destination. It is expected to offer various recreational activities including sightseeing, hiking, camping and other desert-friendly sports and festivals.
The “Green Heart of Riyadh”, the King Salman Park aims to be world’s biggest city park which will be well connected, and is about four times the size of Central Park in New York. It has a total area of 13 million sqm. The park is expected to offer various components related to the environment, culture, art and sports.

Riyadh Sports Boulevard is a one-stop wellbeing destination. It will offer various sports and recreational facilities across 8 multi-themed zones. With a unique outlook, the project has 1 million sqm of land allocated for private investment opportunities among both domestic and foreign investors, allowing them to introduce complementary developments, such as museums, libraries and art studios. The project aims to improve quality of life and support the objective of placing Riyadh within the world’s top 100 livable cities.

As with many sports, soccer teams have three uniforms or 'kits' -- home, away, and "third" which you wear when the first two are too similar to the other team's kit. I've often liked AS Roma's third kit best because it usually takes some design risks.
In the half-written football novel I establish that Askazer-Shivadlakia has a relationship to Rome via sport -- many Shivadh are AS Roma fans because their best player had his best years there, and Miranda and Gregory are shown in Roma supporter kit in the prologue.
And I've long established that blue and orange are the Shivadh flag colors, so it makes sense to put Shivadh RFC players in blue and orange kit:
Paolo had seen initial sketches for the designs, but he still craned his neck to see the real thing. The slideshow cycled through images of children and adults in uniforms: one set bright blue, shorts and shirts, with an orange star over the left breast and the royal crest on the right.
So imagine my goddamn surprise when the new Roma third kit jersey leaked yesterday and it's very nearly in spot-on Shivadh colors.
Did I manifest this.
[ID: A tweet posted yesterday, June 30th, sharing two images of Roma's 2024-25 third kit. The shirts are a saturated blue with yellow-gold stripes down the sides and across the shoulders, and small red triangles under the arms. The Adidas logo is on the right breast with the Roma team logo on the left; below is the logo of the sponsor, Riyadh Season.]
Also I swear I came up with "Shivadh" as a term for a person from Askazer-Shivadlakia before I knew Riyadh Season existed -- they only started sponsoring Roma last year, it's a state-funded sports and entertainment festival in Saudi Arabia.
Anyway, licensed jerseys are stupid expensive, especially when you're also paying postage from Italy, but I might have to spend next month's book royalties on one. I know you can get player names on the back but I'm kind of hoping they issue a version with De Rossi (the new head coach) on it. Otherwise I'll probably get either Pellegrini or Dybala, maybe Bove.

im reading the program for riyadh season 2024 and its fucking insane??????? that's the entertainment festival that the six kings slam is part of btw. there's an exorbitant amount of things on, various sporting events (including football, competitive slapping??, snooker, FUCKING PADEL???), concerts, theme parks, SEVERAL REPLICA "COUNTRIES" (such as USA, France, Italy, Egypt, Iran) (as in these zones have landmarks/experiences that represent these places, like a fake Hollywood and hotdogs for US lol), a zoo, an aquarium, one of those giant ball screens, VR stuff, skiing?????, a man-made lagoon, a firing range??, I could go on for actually all of time bc I only got halfway through the program??????
Like.. I'm all for events and festivals but I baulk at the mere passing thought of the amount of money and resources this event requires. I think if I stepped foot there I would explode immediately from sensory overload. This is eventing at a level I can't BEGIN to conceive of.
#no clue what to tag this#nonsense tag#if u dare u should go read the program its on the riyadhseason website#my feelings r becoming increasingly soured towards this exho

The two Egyptian inmates ate a routine final dinner in a prison in northern Saudi Arabia, not knowing they would be put to death for drug crimes the next morning.
Their abrupt killing this month extended a recent spree of drug-related executions in Saudi Arabia, after officials ended a moratorium on the death penalty for such crimes less than two years ago.
The cases have spurred outcry from human rights groups and spread fear in Tabuk prison, near the Jordanian border, where inmates told AFP more than 50 defendants have been sentenced to die over drug smuggling and worry their executions could come at any moment.
"We don't know whose turn it is. Maybe it's me or my closest friend," said Mohammed, a 40-year-old Egyptian who ran a hotel in Riyadh before his arrest in 2015 for receiving a shipment of furniture that turned out to be stuffed with drugs.
"We are not notified in advance to say goodbye to our loved ones or even prepare ourselves psychologically," Mohammed, in tears, told AFP by phone from the Tabuk facility.
He agreed to be identified by his first name only to avoid repercussions.
Since May, Saudi Arabia has executed 28 people on drug-related charges, according to an AFP tally based on official statements, up from just two in all of 2023.
This year's toll includes the two Egyptians killed last week in Tabuk: Walid Farouk and Youssef Kleib, who the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said were guilty of smuggling hashish and amphetamines.
All told, Saudi Arabia executed at least 170 people last year, more than any other country besides China and Iran. It is on course to exceed that figure this year.
The authorities deem the executions to be compatible with Sharia law — the Islamic legal code based on the teachings of the Koran — and necessary to "maintain public order".
Though state media reports do not specify how executions are carried out, Saudi Arabia is notorious for beheadings, contributing to its forbidding reputation.
- Short-lived moratorium -
As de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman tries to transform Saudi Arabia into a business and entertainment hub, he has hinted at a softening of its approach to capital punishment.
In a transcript of an interview with The Atlantic magazine published by state media in March 2022, Prince Mohammed said the kingdom had "got rid of" the death penalty except for cases of murder or when someone "threatens the lives of many people".
However, in November 2022 the authorities announced the first executions for drug crimes in nearly three years, trampling on a moratorium announced by the kingdom's official human rights commission.
"We were relieved and very happy when we heard about the moratorium on executions in drug cases. I felt that life had given me a second chance," said Mohammed, the Egyptian inmate in Tabuk.
Now that the executions have resumed, those hopes have been dashed, he said.
State media reported 19 drug-related executions in late 2022 before the pace slowed considerably, only to pick up again this past July.
- 'Execute me now' -
Saudi Arabia is a major market for the addictive amphetamine captagon, which floods in from Lebanon and war-torn Syria, prompting the authorities to launch a high-profile crackdown last year involving a flurry of raids and arrests.
Duaa Dhainy, a researcher for the Berlin-based European-Saudi Organisation for Human Rights (ESOHR), sees a link between that operation and the latest executions.
"We believe the campaign made prisons more crowded, and it seems that the recent executions are an attempt to close some pending cases," she said.
The Saudi government did not respond to AFP's request for comment.
Human rights groups like ESOHR, Amnesty and Reprieve say executions are all the more unacceptable because of problems with Saudi Arabia's justice system.
These "general flaws" include defendants' "exposure to torture and ill-treatment and their lack of the right to adequate self-defence," Dhainy said.
That rings true for one 34-year-old Egyptian death row inmate who, fearing retribution from prison authorities, asked to be identified only as Shadi, a pseudonym.
A taxi driver in the coastal city of Jeddah, Shadi was arrested in 2018 and sentenced to death the following year for drug trafficking, which he denies.
"I was wronged, I never got a fair trial and I didn't have a lawyer to defend me," said Shadi, who has a 10-year-old son back in Egypt.
As the executions tick up, Shadi told AFP he found the years spent behind bars awaiting his own death to be unbearable.
"Waiting for the death sentence is cruel torture," he said.
"If you are going to execute me eventually, execute me now."

Reasons behind the fast economic growth of Saudi Arabia:
The rapid economic growth of Saudi Arabia in 2022, especially being the fastest-growing among G20 economies, can be attributed to several key factors:
- Increased Oil Production and Prices: Saudi Arabia, being one of the world's largest oil producers, benefited significantly from rising global oil prices and increased production levels. The rebound in global demand for oil post-pandemic, combined with geopolitical tensions that disrupted other oil supplies, contributed to higher revenues.
- Economic Reforms Under Vision 2030: The Saudi government’s Vision 2030 initiative aims to diversify the economy away from oil dependency. Reforms under this vision have encouraged growth in non-oil sectors such as tourism, entertainment, real estate, and finance, driving economic expansion.
- Investment in Infrastructure: Major infrastructure projects, including NEOM, the Red Sea Project, and the expansion of Riyadh, have attracted significant investments. These projects are not only boosting construction and related industries but are also creating jobs and stimulating the overall economy.
- Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Saudi Arabia has seen an increase in FDI due to improved business regulations, economic reforms, and strategic partnerships with global companies. The Kingdom's efforts to create a more business-friendly environment have made it an attractive destination for foreign investors.
- Strong Private Sector Growth: Government initiatives to boost the private sector, including supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), have contributed to economic growth. Privatization of certain sectors and public-private partnerships have also played a role.
- Expansion of Non-Oil Sectors: Sectors such as tourism, entertainment, and technology have seen rapid growth, fueled by government support and increased consumer spending. Events like the Saudi Seasons, international sporting events, and cultural festivals have attracted visitors and investments.
- Labor Market Reforms: Reforms in the labor market, including Saudization efforts (Nitaqat program) and improved labor laws, have increased workforce participation and productivity, particularly among women and young Saudis.
- Fiscal Prudence and Debt Management: Saudi Arabia has implemented effective fiscal policies, including managing public debt and reducing the budget deficit, which has helped stabilize the economy and promote growth.
- Global Economic Recovery: The global economic recovery post-COVID-19 also played a role, as increased global trade and investment flows positively impacted Saudi Arabia's economy.
These factors combined to create a robust and diversified growth environment, contributing to Saudi Arabia's rapid economic expansion

No one loves Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman more than America’s elite. In recent years, we’ve seen leaders, investors, and celebrities hold out a Saudi exception to human rights in the service of a blurry concept of national interests that requires the U.S. to constantly compromise its values in service of an autocrat. And so MBS has been welcomed back into the establishment fold, and he won over Washington. And now he’s taking a victory lap.
When Saudi Arabia convened a 2018 summit in Riyadh, businesspeople shielded their name tags from view, sheepish about seeking MBS’s money just days after journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder. But the stigma has apparently worn off, and big names in finance, tech, media, and entertainment showed up at the Miami edition of Davos in the Desert.
The entire conceit of the conference is that Saudi Arabia can be abstracted from MBS, who is hardly ever mentioned yet remains the unspoken force behind the events. The host, the Future Investment Initiative Institute, a mouthful, is essentially the crown prince’s personal think tank. Session after session offered platitudes and ruminations on the least controversial ideas ever—AI is going to change the world! Climate is important! Sports bring people together! The two-day gathering was titled “On the Edge of a New Frontier,” itself a sort of redundant name. (Isn’t a frontier an edge?)
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of a major sovereign wealth fund that’s currently under Senate investigation, led the proceedings. The Public Investment Fund that Al-Rumayyan runs is the conference’s founding partner and powers its lavish events. That Al-Rumayyan has $70 billion in annual investments to dole out is enough to draw out financial titans, curious entrepreneurs, and former Trump officials.
Jared Kushner, who had grown a beard, was talking about his theory of investing, without noting that MBS’s sovereign wealth funds had reportedly contributed $2 billion to his Affinity Partners. Steve Mnuchin, who similarly snared $1 billion of Saudi funds for his Liberty Strategic Capital, wore a suit and dress sneakers and talked about Israel as a tech hub. Mike Pompeo, in a tie, said that U.S. leadership in the world requires a “stability model” that involves working with “like-minded nations,” though “they’re not all going to be democracies.” Little wonder he rushed U.S. arms to Saudi Arabia as secretary of state as part of an end run around Congress.
Doing business with Saudi Arabia has become so normalized that the CEOs of major corporations and investment firms showed up in droves. There was Accenture’s Julie Sweet, Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman, and Thiel Capital’s Jack Selby. David Rubenstein—the billionaire who has played host to President Joe Biden at his Nantucket estate—spoke alongside his daughter Gabrielle. (This year, the Biden administration didn’t send an emissary, but the deputy commerce secretary, Donald Graves, attended in 2021.)
Journalists have kept a distance from Saudi Arabia after the dismemberment of Washington Post columnist Khashoggi, but in Miami the moderators included CNN’s Bianna Golodryga, Fox’s Maria Bartiromo, Bloomberg’s Manus Cranny, and The Wall Street Journal’s Gerard Baker.
MBS has especially used boldfaced names to rehabilitate his standing post-Khashoggi, his crackdown on women activists, and the destructive Yemen war. In Miami, there was a fireside chat with failed Senate candidate Dr. Oz. “Saudi Arabia is, I think, doing some wise investing and shifting mindsets by trying to leapfrog, in some cases, where the West is,” Oz said.
For Gwyneth Paltrow, it was just another fun public event. She spoke about how Goop had “built meaning” for its fans, in conversation with entrepreneur Moj Mahdara, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton. It was particularly incongruous when Paltrow discussed bringing more women to the cap table to fight the patriarchy.
Rob Lowe had some advice for Riyadh’s efforts to break into Hollywood and create its own film industry. “My view is there’s no reason that Saudi shouldn’t be the leader in IP in the same way they’re attempting to be the leader in sports and everything else,” Lowe said. “You need to have someone who can communicate: Why Saudi, why now.”
For all of the glitzy stage management and slick social media branding, at many moments there were fewer than 50 people watching the livestream on YouTube. But what mattered more were the opinion leaders, financiers, and tycoons in the room.
Big Tech was there, too, with Google’s Caroline Yap and Dell’s Michael Dell. Nothing was quite as obsequious as last year’s gathering in Miami when Adam Neumann, Marc Andreessen, and Ben Horowitz—all beneficiaries of Saudi Arabia’s financial largesse—gushed about how MBS is like a “founder,” except “you call him, ‘His Royal Highness.’”
