Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say while prostrating himself: "O Lord, forgive me all my sins, small and great, first and last, open and secret." Sahih Muslim 483 in-book reference : Book 4, Hadith 246

Cool things i learned abt the Dora Milaje from the dora milaje training manual
this is canon to the 616 and comics, not the MCU, but it was cool to learn about and definitely impacts my canon compliant AU fic. So it might be useful to others. Its not the full book, not even a chapters worth of info, but if you were considering getting it, do so. It made me look at wakanda forever differently, too.
Joining
they accept women from all 5 tribes (17 in the comics) between the ages of 15-20 to become Dora
They have to bring a gift and be accepted by Bast to begin training
If accepted they are called Kanwata and the process takes 4 years to complete.
Upon initiation they go through an ori ceremony where their heads are shaved and they received their first ritual tattoo. They receive another tattoo each year, an ink with vibranium, until the second and final ori ceremony where they receive the final tattoo after their acceptance from Bast.
Training
They have to learn 7 of 10 languages: Wakandan, Xhosa, Hausa, Arabic, Yoruba, English, Igbo, Mandarin, Swahili, and Korean. They have 9 additional elective languages they can learn, especially to connect to the diaspora and blend in: cantonese, Hebrew, Japanese, French, Farsi, Spanish, Amharic, and Portuguese. They get to conversation and translation in the following years.
In the first year they must learn hand to hand combat in the forms of Ngolo, Laamb, Silat, Muay Thai, Musangwe, and Krav Maga. Once the required mastery has been met they add weapons in the second year. The Dora are considered "living weapons".
In the comic verse, they have a mystical and supernatural combat section. The kanwata training is in 3 pillars: physical, mental, and spiritual/herbal. They study vibranium application and properties as well as herbal practices like identifying plants for food and medicinal purposes.
Essentially, Dora are super smart and well trained so it takes a unique situation for them to be unprepared lol. There is even more that goes into what was listed above.
Structure
The DM have 3 major units: Guard Units, Airborne Units, and Support Staff Units. This includes Domestic, international, and Off world teams in the comics.
Dora can be broken into units, squads, or teams (helpful when trying to name group that they might be on a mission in)
They are all trained in combat and munitions (weapons) but some units are researchers, mechanics, pilots, healers, or apart of a secret division (like the cia) but no one knows who is in that secret division
Kanwata are the trainees, the 3rd and 4th years apprentice with Iya Dora and/or train younger Kanwata.
Ile Dora Milaje is what the group of active, graduated, and fully initiated Dora are called.
Iya Dora is the council that confers with wakandan leadership (Taifa Ngao, the council of elders), determines the graduation passage of kanwata, and governs the active duty, dismissal or removal from Dora ranks. There are Dora that have been re-instated after dismissal.
There are some cool excerpts if you clicked the link below. I am tired of typing lol.

You ran for your life, lungs burning, feet flying.
You looked behind you to see that the one pursuing you was not far off. You ducked down a hallway and into an open door.
Your chest heaved as you leaned against the wall and looked around for a hiding space.
Fragmented memories were coming back to you during this pursuit, and at this moment, the sense of running barefoot through tall reeds on the banks of a river overwhelmed you.
You shook it off, although you couldn’t help yourself from looking to the air for your favorite brightly colored water fowl. Your heart dropped when you looked around to register an empty room with a solitary gurney. The fact that you were trapped in a mental hospital and not outside it sucked the air out of you.
And then you heard his footsteps.
Bucky slowed his pace as his ears perked up, and he opened the same door you did moments before. He’d come for you an hour ago and you’d managed to evade him ever since. Typical for one who’d taken the serum. You were a hard target to acquire, but he was determined.
He scanned the empty room, checking for trap doors or hidden panels. He walked over to the windows, which were sealed shut. He looked down on the courtyard that patients weren’t allowed to use and shook his head, then, he made his way out of the door again.
You waited three minutes after you heard his footsteps retreating before you moved the ceiling tile and dropped down from where you’d been hiding.
For some reason, the man you were hiding from you terrified you. Ever since you saw his face weeks ago when you fought him on a mission, you’d been plagued with strange memories. Which made your Master have to reset you again and again. You resented that.
Despite the fact that you felt impelled destroy him, you did not want to face the dark-haired man in black with the piercing blue eyes again. You may not know your own name, but you knew that man had some mysterious power over you. Even more so than the Power Broker.
Just as you reached for the doorknob, the door jerked open, the man in black returning your stare with a rueful grin. You’d been too lost in your own thoughts to be fully aware of his presence.
“Daga karshe na sameki masoyiyata.”
Your ears perked up at the language that the man spoke. You understood it, although you’d spoken French for as long as you could remember, which wasn’t long. Maybe this horrible institution wasn’t your home.
“Why did you call me that?”
Your eyes widened when English came out of your mouth. It seemed a natural response to this man. You were very confused, more than you normally were, which was always.
The man was inching closer to you now.
“Because that is who you are, Soyayya ta.”
“No! That’s not true!”
You hurled yourself at the man, climbing up his body and winding up with your legs around his neck. You squeezed,  hoping to choke him out while he grinned up at you.
“Yes it is.”
His voice was weak, as if he was gasping for breath. For an unknown reason, you let up on his windpipe.
Suddenly, you were sat on the gurney, your right leg in his left hand. You could not get out of his grip and you two stared at each while he held your legs apart. When he licked his lips was when you kicked him in the sternum. Clearly, he was surprised at the force, which caused him to double over, but he quickly recovered and caught you before you moved two feet, grabbing your bicep and bringing your arm behind your back, placing you none too gently against the wall.
You grunted as you felt all of him, including his manhood, pressed hard and insistent upon your back.
Was he going to violate you?
Did you want him to?
Yet another language flowed out of his mouth, which was close to the shell of your ear. You suppressed a shiver as you heard his velvet voice.
“Sygrayem v nashu malen'kuyu igru, kukolka?”
He snaked his left arm around your neck and pressed you back further into him as his gloved hand turned your face to his. He leaned around, as if he was going to kiss you, and opened his mouth. His breath fanned your face as he bared his teeth and bit the pointer finger of the black leather glove he was wearing. He used his mouth to tear the glove off to reveal a black and golden hand. You were mesmerized by it until it was quickly clamped over your mouth.
The sensation was familiar and when you tasted the metal; it was nearly orgasmic. Your eyes rolled baack into your head and you  all but ignored the man’s other hand roaming your body.
“I’m just checking you to see if you’re okay, Doll.”
The hand tasted like home, like warm air and smells of your favorite foods. It tasted like beautiful people and excellence and safety and…Wakanda. Your eyes flew open when you realized.
Vibranium.
You sobbed as memories came flooding to your mind. The pathetic sounds were muffled by the vibranium hand.
Your mother. Your father. The river that was your home. Your weapons. Your money. The vow you took when you became a Dora Milaje and Shuri’s personal guard. The same vow that you broke when you fell in love with Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier…
“Farar kerkecina.…James…”
“Shhhh Doll. I’m here now.”
Bucky pulled you into his arms from behind, and you held on to the limbs that were wrapped around you as you cried, one human and one created by the Princess, Shuri.
Finally, you turned around and looked up at the love of your life. He peered back at you, eyes full of concern, but also a mixture of relief, love, and yes, need.
“Are you okay?”
You didn’t answer him, instead, you asked your own question.
“How long, James? How long have we been apart?”
Bucky brought his hand up to your face, thumb tracing your chin and fingers in your dense curls.
“A little over two years.”
You gasped and tears fell again fresh and new.
“I searched for you every day. I promise, Doll. And you’ve been right under my nose…”
Your heart melted.
“I know you did. The Power Broker is devious. She did horrible things. Made me do…”
And then he kissed you. His lips were the softest and strongest you’d ever tasted. You licked into his mouth and fisted his t shirt between you.
“You don’t have to tell me. I know. And I’m going to find her and bring her to justice.”
Bucky was panting as your hand strayed to touch the bare skin and the metal under his shirt. He smirked when you pinched his nipple.
“She is mine to destroy.”
Bucky’s smirk turned into a full fledged grin when you glared up at him and opened his pants. He shivered when you fisted him.
“There’s my girl.”
You separated from him as you pulled your shirt over your head. Next went your pants and underwear as Bucky’s eyes roamed your body. He licked his chops, just as the White Wolf would.
“You sure you don’t wanna leave, Doll? Need to check you out. Need to get you an examination… get you safe…”
You backed away from him toward the gurney.
“I need to have you James. Please. I remember. It’s been so long. I need some control back. Please.”
Bucky couldn’t stop himself from moving toward your upturned ass as you bent over the gurney and looked over your shoulder at him.
“You told me the serum heightened everything. But I didn’t understand before. I need you now, James.”
Bucky was drawn to you as if on a string.
“I get it, Doll. Everything is so much. You sure you alright, Doll?”
You hadn’t said that you were before, but you avoided the topic again.
“See for yourself, farar kerkecina.”
Bucky rubbed your ass, eyes glazed over, lust flowing through his veins. It had been a long 26 months and visions of you clouded not only his dreams, but every spare waking moment. He couldn’t help it.
His metal hand quickly undid his belt and pants while his right, his flesh, dipped into you, feeling the wetness between your legs. You reached back to the arm that shined, incrementally trying to bring him into you. He held you off, but he did slowly start to swipe his cockhead through your neglected folds.
“Oh…”
Bucky watched and drooled as he took in the vision of your mouth and that wide open, perfect O of those perfect lips.
“So gorgeous… Soyayya ta..”
He slowly breached your tight hole, and your mouth widened impossibly even more as the stretch almost took you out. It hurt, but it hurt so good, the only positive sensation you’d had in over two years.
This time, Bucky let you reach back to grasp the base of him, slowing down as he saw the difficulty with which you were having taking him. You adjusted his aim, and he paused, hand on your hip as you spread your cheeks so that he could get inside you. Your eyes met in surprised sensation as he was finally able to slide all the way home.
“Feel so damn good, White Wolf!”
You started moving faster on his cock as his hands slid up your wiast to your tits, squeezing, groping, making up for lost time.
He was stroking a slow, steady, deep pace, as his metal fingers made their way into your open mouth, pressing down your throat as your tongue swirled around your native metal.
“So goood….”
You were gagging around his fingers, partly because of his actions, and partly because he felt so good inside you. You reached back and grabbed his shirt, pulling on it as you took his thick cock inside you, looking back at him stretching your tiny hole with awe. You looked into each other’s eyes as you felt him swelling impossibly.
“Love your bald head, but I like this hair, Doll. I can do this…”
And Bucky grabbed your curls, pulling on your roots deliciously and stretching your neck so that he could engage you in a filthy kiss while he drove into you. You separated, gasping for breath.
“Bast! James, is your cock made of vibranium too?”
He laughed at the old joke, which made the rounds of the Dora until you found out the truth.
“You make me feel like it is, soyayya ta.”
Bucky let you go so that you could hold on to the gurney and fuck yourself on his cock.
He grabbed your breasts again and the look of surprised lust came was mirrored on both of your faces as you felt yourself squeezing him with your impending orgasm.
“C’mon, Soyayya ta. Give it to me.”
“James, oh James. Oh….!”
“Good god!”
You bent fully over the gurney when you came, and Bucky had a clear view of your beautiful cream on his cock. That’s when he started pounding you out properly, using you to reach his end. Your senses were so alive that you felt each stream and splash of his cum inside you, and it caused your sensitive cunt to shudder. You lay there under him as he collapsed on top of you, relishing the feel of him.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck…”
Bucky kissed your shoulder and down your back as he looked around for something to clean up with. You looked back at him, and stood up, Bucky’s spend leaking down your legs.
“Let me.”
You gave him that look as you bent over, taking his still semi-hard cock in your hand. You stared at him straight on as you took him in your mouth and cleaned him off.
“That mouth, those eyes… you’re killing me here…”
You smiled around his girth and then opened your mouth to let him see the effects of your handiwork.
“On my life, Doll. I will never get enough of you.”
He pulled you up to standing and leaned down to give you a filthy kiss.
“So glad to have you back in my arms.”
Bucky turned around and leaned on the gurney as he held you. You leaned into him, tears pricking your eyes as you felt the same emotions, but knowing what you had to do.
“I love you, farar kerkecina…”
You gave him a tender kiss on the lips before you delivered a blow to his vagus nerve. Bucky went out immediately, and you gently laid him on the gurney before you got dressed again.
“I have to finish this with the Power Broker, and I know you will try to stop me.”
You tucked the underwear that you’d cleaned up with into his jeans pocket, trading them for the keys to this asylum.
“We will be together soon, my love.”
You gave him a kiss on his perfect lips before you quickly made your out of the hospital, on your way to kill Sharon Carter for making you the Summer Soldier and taking the child from your belly.

🤍Linguistics🤍
💙Xingshen💙:
Fluent in Mandarin, Igbo, Hausa, French, Latin, and English
After so many centuries away from her family, her accent is mostly Chinese, though she's still used to pronouncing her vowels longer
Thanks to being brought up as a noble, star was taught to speak in a very proper and exact manner, though time away from high society in the modern age means some of the stricter grammar has faded
If star cusses at all, it's in a language she knows/hopes present party won't understand
It feels more polite to disguise the foul language somehow
💜Chandrelle💜:
Fluent in Common, Elvish, Orcish, Undercommon, and Aquan
Sadly barely ever has occasion to speak Aquan, though she loves it dearly
Though never going to the Underdark herself, Chandrelle knew before making her life on the land that Drow elves were particularly fond of surface elf slaves- and Sea elves were considered to be particularly 'exotic'. She figured it would be in her best interest to learn Undercommon so that, in the event of her capture and sell into slavery, she could at least understand the language
Orcish was another practical measure. Chandrelle had heard of orcs being called warlike and impatient, yet still she saw no reason not to learn the language in the event that she could use reason with one. As an additional upside, some goblins (who she heard to be quite bothersome and equally wont to action over words) spoke Orcish, thus hopefully saving her from having to learn both languages
If at all possible Chandrelle prefers to speak in and sing in Elvish, preferring it more than Common (which she sees as rather plain and boring in comparison to her own lovely language)
🩷Sylvia🩷:
Fluent in Amharic, Scottish Gaelic, Lepontic, English, and Gaulish
Her multilingual skills allow for her to assist many people calling the Home Safety Hotline, and she gets paid extra to translate the information packets callers are sent
Lepontic and Gaulish were learned for funsies, she adores old Celtic languages
No matter the language she speaks, Sylvia has a very heavy Ethiopian accent
She also has a habit of constantly speaking like a 2010s teen on MySpace, but her points always get across eventually
It can be a jumpscare for people not used to her, though, like the callers who are expecting a calm, cool, professional person on the other end
And then they get hit with the "Haiiiii! This is Sylvia, I'll be yoar assistance 2day!!11 SO!!! What seems to be the probz?"
I know in Home Safety Hotline the employee doesn't actually speak
But the bit is too funny for me to pass up

Just out of sheer curiosity, not meant to be judgemental in the slightest! Linguistically only, not getting into the politics of it all. For the sake of fun/argument, let’s pretend none of us are using translation software.

ORIGIN AND MEANING OF THE NAME IGBO
The meaning of the name Igbo has been a subject of debate and speculation among many people. There is no consensus on its true meaning.
Firstly, it is important to note that the names of ethnic groups are not always derived from within those groups. For example, the Yoruba people used to refer to themselves as the anago or the aku people, and the name Yoruba was given to them by the Hausa people, which supposedly means someone who is tricky or untrustworthy. However, this is just an example and not our main focus.
Regarding the name Igbo, many have suggested that it comes from Heebo, Eboe, or Ibo. However, this is a false narrative driven by an agenda to draw similarities to Hebrew. It is important to note that no Igbo clan, town, or tribe refers to themselves or others as Ibo, Mr Ibu, Heebo, or Eboe. These terms were first encountered in colonial texts or documents by Portuguese or British explorers and cartographers. The transcriptions of Igbo names were based on how they sounded to these foreigners, taking into consideration their own linguistic rules. As a result, it is easy to transcribe Igbo into Heebo or Eboe, but this does not reflect the true linguistic structures of the Igbo language.
Elevating a western corruption of the native Igbo tribe to a factual and legitimate status is illogical and mischievous. The names Heebo, Eboe, and Ibo are all Western corruptions of Igbo and hold no meaning to the indigenous people. Additionally, attempts to link Igbo to Hebrew through fabricated synonyms such as Igbrew or Hibu are baseless and lack factual support.
The name Hebrew itself is an English corruption of the original Ivriyyim. Many English corruptions have resulted in false similarities, such as using the word Jew instead of the original Hebrew word Yahudi, or Judah instead of Yahuda. It is important to correct these corruptions to truly understand the original Hebrew language.
Some have tried to link Igbo to gboo, suggesting that Igbo means ndi gboo, which translates to ancient people. Although this seems more credible than previous examples, ndi gboo simply means "ndi gboo" and ndi Igbo means ndi Igbo. They are not the same. Furthermore, many parts of Igbo land use different terms like Oche, Ochie, or Akani/Okani to refer to ancient. If it was "ndi gboo," it would have been gboo people, not Igbo people. The etymology and intonation of gboo and Igbo are distinct.
When considering the origin and meaning of the word Igbo, there are three etymologies that give it meaning. These meanings can be found locally without misspelling the word. The first etymology suggests that Igbo originated from a proto-Kwa word meaning "forest" or "forest people," as they were among the first proto-Kwa people to settle in the rainforest area and assimilate the indigenous Pygmy population.
The second etymology suggests that the tribes who settled by the riverbanks referred to the interior tribes as Igbo, indicating those who lived in the interior forests. The hinterland tribes referred to them as oru/olu.
To fully grasp the composite meaning of Igbo and why it became the name of the ethnic group, we must consider the third etymology. Igbo simply means the community or the people of the community. This term was commonly used in the past but has become obsolete, replaced by more commonly used terms like oha, except in certain areas where archaic dialects are still maintained. Igbo is an old usage that signifies the community or congregation of the people. Understanding this sheds light on expressions like "Igbo Nsukka" and the names of communities such as Igbo Etiti, Igbo Eze, Igbo Ukwu, and Igbo Uzo. Over time, it evolved into an ethnic identity, eventually encompassing Oru as well.

About that last post, I'm not entirely sure I always want the captions of the non-primary language to be untranslated. If people are speaking Hausa briefly in a show, I want to know what's being said! Don't keep me in the dark!
(Obviously not providing translated subtitles for a brief segment can be an artistic choice which is perfectly valid even if it annoys me to not know what the fuck they're saying in Serbian.)
The other side of that, though, is that if you do speak the language in question, translated subtitles can be annoying as shit. If there's a French bit in an English show, I as a person who relies on subtitles to hear want French subtitles because subtitles in a different language I speak trips me the fuck up. This goes the other way, too, for English bits in French shows.
There was a Canadian film from the nineties that managed to sidestep this problem by having multiple subtitle tracks. The film was half in English and half in French and had six tracks, which I believe were everything in English, everything in French, English to French translated subs, French to English translated subs, each language translated to the other, and everything in its own language.

Google Translate Expands Language Fluency with 110 New Additions, from Abkhaz to Zulu
Tumblr media
Google Translate is expanding its language capabilities significantly, adding 110 new languages, including Manx, in its largest single expansion ever. This brings the total number of languages supported by the translation tool to 243, nearly doubling its previous count. The expansion is driven by PaLM 2, the latest iteration of Google's Pathways Language Model introduced in 2022 and enhanced with version 2 in May 2023. Google Translate has steadily broadened its language repertoire over the years. In 2008, for instance, it added Czech, a crucial addition for many, including this writer, who moved to a Czech-speaking region a decade ago. Recently, the focus has also extended to languages like Manx, spoken on the Isle of Man. This expansion, similar to a more modest increase of 24 languages in 2022, utilizes Google's Zero Shot machine translation method. Since 2016, Google Translate has employed neural network models for translation, with zero-resource training enabling the models to translate languages without exact one-to-one matching texts in the training database. This development highlights a practical application of large language models (LLMs), which some present as AI. LLMs operate on neural networks, and contrary to marketing claims about "AI accelerator chips," these are primarily specialized co-processors for faster tensor mathematics computations. Machine translation plays a crucial role in preserving and revitalizing minority languages. A notable example is Manx, which has seen a revival over the past few decades. The last native speaker, Edward "Ned" Maddrell, passed away in 1974. However, efforts to document the language through recordings and videos have preserved it. Today, there is a new generation of native Manx speakers, with children being raised by adults who learned the language as a second language. Additionally, the establishment of Bunscoill Ghaelgagh, a Manx language primary school, has further contributed to the language's resurgence. Google's recent addition of 110 languages, including Manx, marks its largest expansion ever of Google Translate. This brings the total number of languages supported by the translation tool to 243, nearly doubling its previous count. The expansion is powered by PaLM 2, the latest release of Google's Pathways Language Model introduced in 2022 and improved with version 2 in May 2023. Google Translate has been gradually expanding its language capabilities for years, a journey that began with the addition of languages like Czech back in 2008, catering to diverse linguistic needs worldwide. The comprehensive list of languages now supported by Google Translate includes Abkhaz, Acehnese, Acholi, Afar, Afrikaans, Albanian, Alur, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Assamese, Avar, Awadhi, Aymara, Azerbaijani, Balinese, Baluchi, Bambara, Baoulé, Bashkir, Basque, Batak Karo, Batak Simalungun, Batak Toba, Belarusian, Bemba, Bengali, Betawi, Bhojpuri, Bikol, Bosnian, Breton, Bulgarian, Buryat, Cantonese, Catalan, Cebuano, Chamorro, Chechen, Chichewa, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Chuukese, Chuvash, Corsican, Crimean Tatar, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dari, Dhivehi, Dinka, Dogri, Dombe, Dutch, Dyula, Dzongkha, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Ewe, Faroese, Fijian, Filipino, Finnish, Fon, French, Frisian, Friulian, Fulani, Ga, Galician, Georgian, German, Greek, Guarani, Gujarati, Haitian Creole, Hakha Chin, Hausa, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Hiligaynon, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Hunsrik, Iban, Icelandic, Igbo, Ilocano, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Jamaican Patois, Japanese, Javanese, Jingpo, Kalaallisut, Kannada, Kanuri, Kapampangan, Kazakh, Khasi, Khmer, Kiga, Kikongo, Kinyarwanda, Kituba, Kokborok, Komi, Konkani, Korean, Krio, Kurdish (Kurmanji), Kurdish (Sorani), Kyrgyz, Lao, Latgalian, Latin, Latvian, Ligurian, Limburgish, Lingala, Lithuanian, Lombard, Luganda, Luo, Luxembourgish, Macedonian, Madurese, Maithili, Makassar, Malagasy, Malay, Malay (Jawi), Malayalam, Maltese, Mam, Manx, Maori, Marathi, Marshallese, Marwadi, Mauritian Creole, Meadow Mari, Meiteilon (Manipuri), Minang, Mizo, Mongolian, Myanmar (Burmese), Nahuatl (Eastern Huasteca), Ndau, Ndebele (South), Nepalbhasa (Newari), Nepali, NKo, Norwegian, Nuer, Occitan, Odia (Oriya), Oromo, Ossetian, Pangasinan, Papiamento, Pashto, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Punjabi (Gurmukhi), Punjabi (Shahmukhi), Quechua, Q'eqchi', Romani, Romanian, Rundi, Russian, Sami (North), Samoan, Sango, Sanskrit, Santali, Scots Gaelic, Sepedi, Serbian, Sesotho, Seychellois Creole, Shan, Shona, Sicilian, Silesian, Sindhi, Sinhala, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Sundanese, Susu, Swahili, Swati, Swedish, Tahitian, Tajik, Tamazight, Tamazight (Tifinagh), Tamil, Tatar, Telugu, Tetum, Thai, Tibetan, Tigrinya, Tiv, Tok Pisin, Tongan, Tsonga, Tswana, Tulu, Tumbuka, Turkish, Turkmen, Tuvan, Twi, Udmurt, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uyghur, Uzbek, Venda, Venetian, Vietnamese, Waray, Welsh, Wolof, Xhosa, Yakut, Yiddish, Yoruba, Yucatec Maya, Zapotec, and Zulu.
bn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me, “Recite the Qur'an to me.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Shall I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?” He (peace be upon him) said, “I like to hear it from others.” Then I began to recite Surat An-Nisa’. When I reached the Ayah: ‘How will it be when We shall bring a witness from every people and bring you as a witness against them?’ [4:41] (Having heard it) he said, “Enough! Enough!” When I looked at him, I found his eyes were overflowing with tears.“ [Al- Bukhari and Muslim]. Sunnah.com reference : Book 9, Hadith 18 Arabic/English book reference : Book 9, Hadith 1008
… تفسير القرطبي ()
Chapter: The virtue of listening to the Qur’an, asking one who has memorized it to recite so that one may listen, weeping when reciting, and pondering the meanings . Muslim ()
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked Ibn Mas‘ūd to recite some verses of the Qur’an to him. Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "O Messenger of Allah, how can I recite it to you while it has been revealed to you and you have greater knowledge of it than I!" The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) explained: "I love to hear it being recited by others." So Ibn Mas‘ūd recited a portion from Sūrat An-Nisā' to him, and he reached the verse that says: {So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness?} [Sūrat An-Nisā': 41] Meaning: how will your and their condition be? At this point, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Enough for now", meaning: stop the recitation. Ibn Mas‘ūd remarked: "When I looked at him, I saw that his eyes were filled with tears out of mercy towards his followers."
