Shakira - Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango) 2002
"Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)" ("I'm Warning You, I'm Telling You")" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira made alongside the English version of the song, "Objection (Tango)", for her fifth studio album and first English-language album Laundry Service (2001). It musically combines elements of pop rock and tango, and contains instrumentation from the bandoneón and guitar. Through the lyrics of the song, Shakira aims to end a love triangle she is a part of. "Objection (Tango)" was released as the fourth single from the album on 24 May 2002.
Upon its release, "Objection (Tango)" received generally favourable reviews from music critics, some of whom found it similar to the work of American new wave band The B-52's. Commercially, "Objection (Tango)" was a success and peaked inside the top ten of record charts of various countries such as Australia, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands and France. The song became the last single from the album to chart in the UK and on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, reaching numbers 17 and 55, respectively. "Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)" charted inside the top ten of the US Billboard Latin Pop Airplay and Latin Tropical/Salsa Airplay charts. At the 18th Annual International Dance Music Awards ceremony in 2003, "Objection (Tango)" was nominated for "Best Latin Dance Track". Shakira and Lester Mendez won a BMI Latin Award in 2003 for their composition of "Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)". The Spanish version was also nominated for "Best Rock Song" at the 2003 Latin Grammy Awards.
"Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)" received a total of 88,1% yes votes! Previous Shakira polls: #75 "Ojos Así", #269 "La Tortura".

Ska 101 for DBD fans
Do you wanna add more songs to your Charles playlist that aren't Ghost Town by the Specials? Do you wanna talk about ska bands in your fics but don't know what to use?
Well, listen close motherfuckers.
Source: my Rude Girl mother and British alt upbringing
Jamaican Ska
Ska was actually first invented in the late 50s as an offshoot of R&B mixed with Jamaican calypso and was first adopted by mods and skinheads in the UK. Jamaican ska evolved into rocksteady and reggae by the late 60s
3 Notable bands: The Skatalites, Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, The Wailers
2 tone
Ska hit a revival in the late 70s with the 2 tone movement which fused classic ska with the more punk rock sound that was popular in the UK. This is the movement that Charles is a part of, with both his 2 tone patch and the rasta pin showing the more political part of his interests.
Rude boys are also a mod evolution, hence the jacket, polo, smart shoes and tight trousers. This isn't really surprising as 2 tone hit its peak when racial tensions were super high in the UK and, despite the movement being more black and white focused, it resonated with a lot of the Indian immigrants in the UK at the time.
3 Notable bands: The Specials, Madness, The Selecter
3 Suggested songs for Charles: Tears of a Clown by The (English) Beat, Much Too Young by The Specials, On My Radio by The Selecter
"Oh but Jack, what about-"
Ska Punk
Third wave ska started the year Charles died as ska hit America and this is where ska punk was officially dubbed. While 2 tone did combine rock with ska, third wave added more heavy guitar riffs and cleaner brass sections to make its own sound. This is when ska became more world wide in general with Germany, Australia, Russia, Japan and Latin America all developing their own ska scenes
3 Notable bands (english speaking): Reel Big Fish, No Doubt, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones
3 Suggested songs for Charles: Here in Your Bedroom by Goldfinger, The Science of Selling Yourself Short by Less the Jake, Anger Management by Random Hand
New Tone
We're currently in the 4th wave (also dubbed New Tone). It hard to tell what defines it at the moment as New Tone is currently used to describe any ska sound post 3rd wave (which ended in the early 00s).

Because Spotify doesn't really know that much about my listening habits and because I enjoyed writing this kind of post last year I'll once more make a post about my ACTUAL musical favourites this year. So here goes! Album time!
Grendels Sÿster: Abstieg in die Traumkammer (2024, heavy/folk metal) -- This was by far my favourite album of the year. It came out this August. First album by the band, and what a debut! The album has an English version too (which you can also find if you click the link), but I vastly prefer the German one. The lyrics are really excellent and they fit so, so well with the character of the German language. Musically I would say they sound like "early Týr with a female punk singer", the lyrics feature retellings and re-imaginings of various mythologies and mythological themes of the world, ranging from Norse to Greek to (on their EP) Hinduism or even Tolkien's Valar. They once called their genre NWONOEM (New Wave of Nerd-Oriented Epic Metal).
Other albums I liked, in no specific order:
Kornalyn: Intemporel III (2024, folk) -- Kornalyn has been at this for a few years. He's a French anarchist and folk musician who records modernized versions of traditional leftist & worker songs. He's versatile, he's talented, he's got spirit and a great voice. Worth checking out whether you're a comrade, a history enthusiast or a folk fan.
Alice Longyu Gao: Let's Hope Heteros Fail, Learn and Retire (2023, hyperpop) -- Okay, I'm versatile too. Or at least not so set in my ways that I can't appreciate different genres than I normally listen to. Alice's hyperpop songs have a chaotic artistic spirit that I find charming. In a way, some of her songs are pretty metal-ish too - they remind me a little of old SOAD songs. She's funny, she's innovative, she's a delight.
Stonefield: The Light of Lies (1990, prog rock) -- Some awesome prog rock from the 90s. The singer sounds like DIO. If you like the hammond organ, CLIK TEH LINK! If not, click it anyway, you may start to! When I tried to find out which year the album was from, I found their EP The Eyes of the Dawn (1989), which is also so fun.
Alvader: Hereniging (2024, folk metal) -- Hey you! Do you like Heidevolk? If you found this post through the folk metal tag I bet you do. In this case definitely listen to this band. It's made up of ex-members of Heidevolk and sounds a lot like the "original".
HammerFall: Avenge the Fallen (2024, power/heavy metal) -- What can I say about this one. It's HammerFall. It rules by default. It sounds like all their other albums. HammerFall are one of the few bands where that's a compliment.
molllust: In Deep Waters (2015, symphonic metal) -- There is no music I like better than symphonic metal that takes the "symphonic" part really, really seriously. molllust are one of the few bands that do. Between Janika Groß's gorgeous orchestrations and her operatic voice, this is one of the bands that give me hope for the genre. At first I actually found their older stuff too inaccessible, but after I listened to the newer and more straight-forward Mother Universe album a lot last year, In Deep Waters became a lot more approachable to me.
Wintersun: TIME II (2024, Extremely Delayed Technically Complete Symphonic Death Wish Metal) -- I still can't believe my eyes, or ears. Am I dreaming? Is this the real life? It's really out! And Nuclear Blast didn't even give it a digibook edition (I have the one of TIME I and thought I might have a matched set one day). Is this because their corporate overlords don't care about physical media or are they just so DONE with the album, and Jari in general, that they didn't make more of an effort out of spite?
Norrsinnt: Djupt inni skoga (2024, folk metal) -- Somewhere between heavy folk and very folky metal. A collection of songs the artist released individually over the past years, but the album only came out a short while ago. He fortunately seems to have decided against using an AI image as cover art in the end, so I don't feel bad listing this album here. Oh, there are albums that I found this year and liked musically which I'm not listing for this reason, definitely! I'm glad this one isn't among them, because I've known all these songs for years and I'm quite fond of them, and of the power and originality of the vision behind this project.
Nightwish: Yesterwynde (2024, symphonic metal) -- I didn't expect too much from this album, but ended up really liking it! My favourite parts are, of course, the orchestral passages. I like how Nightwish are still capable of evolution, new paths, instead of being stuck in the 2000s. And, after all, what could be a more fitting topic for music that's as larger than life as symphonic metal than just the totality of existence, the universe, the human equation, the meaning of it all?
Romuvos: Spirits (2024, folk) -- Pagan Folk, immersive, meditative, dark. I don't have much to say about this, other than that I have listened to it a lot this year.
KAMIJO: ??? (????, symphonic power metal) -- I usually only have albums on this list because I'm old-fashioned like that, but that's really unfair to Kamijo, who's my top artist of the year on Spotify and whose greatest songs are spread out across a multitude of single bonus tracks and short EPs. So I will link his song TEMPLE and say doumo arigato gozaimasu, vampire prince rockstar-san, nay, -sama!
---
I also continued my exploration of the world of opera. Since I think I'm beginning to know my taste, there were a lot of works I started and didn't finish, but some I liked very much. My favourite was L'elisir d'amore (1832), which I watched in two different versions and listened to all summer. It's a rather light-hearted one, but the music is nevertheless dramatic, it's fast, it's powerful and... somehow rich. And it's just pretty, I'm not immune to the charms of the easily lovable Italian opera, or of Rolando Villazon and his musical and comedic talent. I'd definitely recommend this recording even to people who have never watched an opera before.
I also really liked Eugene Onegin (1879, can't find the recording now) - much more tragic than the one above, few operas I've watched had a better plot, I read the novel it's based on afterwards - as well as a whimsical 1979 recording of L'incoronazione di Poppea (1643) and a gorgeous staging of Atys (1676, only French subs here, sry). Baroque opera is superior to the later stuff according to me. The beautiful music, the melancholic observations on life in the libretto, the way the operas always seem to reach for the divine, beyond the limits of mundane human existence - it strives for perfection, and my ears think it comes close.
And that's my musical breakdown of the year :)

"One Thing Leads to Another" is a song by English new wave band the Fixx from their album Reach the Beach. It is one of the group's most successful singles, reaching number four on the US Hot 100 chart in 1983 while peaking at number two on the Billboard Rock Top Tracks and hitting number one in other countries.
Lead vocalist Cy Curnin has described the song as an indictment of dishonest politicians. "Once they start lying, they just can't seem to stop. After awhile I don't think they can remember the truth."

♡ A guide to emo, goth, and scene! ♡
So since I see a lot of confusion over certain subcultures are and the differences between them, I thought I would make somewhat of a master post basically outlining the characteristics and differences of three aesthetics that I see misinterpreted a lot. If I do at any point get something wrong, feel free to correct me because I really don't intend to spread misinformation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎀 Emo
Emo is a music based subculture that first emerged in the 80s out of the hardcore scene. The name emo came from the music genre emocore, which was short for emotional hardcore. The fashion is typically pretty casual, with some staples being straightened and teased hair with a sideways fringe, black clothing, band shirts, arm warmers, sneakers, skinny jeans, fishnets, arm warmers, wide leg pants, studded belts, and merchandise from various properties like Emily The Strange, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Ruby Gloom.
Since the early days of emo, the music in the subculture has expanded outside of hardcore and post-hardcore, and has since gone on to include alternative rock, horror punk, metalcore, pop punk, and screamo. Some of the most prominent artists in the scene are Avril Lavigne, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, Pierce The Veil, and Sleeping With Sirens.
Since the subculture is mainly music based, fashion is not as important to being considered part of the scene. Therefore, not dressing in a specific way while listening to the music wouldn't make you a poser, but dressing emo while not listening to the music would. What is not considered emo is listening to a random genre of rock music. Bands like Metallica and Nirvana, while enjoyed by many emos, are not emo bands and therefore don't make someone emo. Furthermore, I can't believe I need to say this, but, contrary to what many people seem to think, kawaii people are also not emo. While it is common for kawaii people to listen to metal and other heavy music genres, their style is not at all similar to emo and they don't consider themselves as part of the subculture either.
🎀 Goth
Goth is probably the oldest subculture here, with it dating back to the 70s English punk scene, with bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure pioneering the culture. The post-punk band Bauhaus' debut single 'Bela Lugosi's Dead,' a song inspired by the famous horror actor Bela Lugosi, who portrayed Dracula in the 1931 film adaptation and also starred in White Zombie which is a film that's typically referred to as the first zombie movie, is often considered the first gothic rock song.
Goth is a subculture with many different sub-subcultures. Some of the most popular are batcave, bubble goth, cyber goth (formerly referred to as gravers), death rock, mall goth (formerly known as spooky kids), nu goth, romantic goth, steampunk, vampire goth, and, my personal favourite, gothic lolita. Contrary to what many people think, I don't consider aesthetics like pastel goth (which I do love) to really be a part of goth since it doesn't have roots in goth. Obviously I'm not going to go over every substyle because that would take way too long and would have to require its own post, but some common staples in most of these styles is lots of black, horror-inspired imagery, very big teased hair, black or red lipstick (red was the most common in the earlier days), and very pale almost white skin. Therefore, e-girls and emos (e-girls especially) are not goth. Also, the fetishisation of the 'big tiddy goth girlfriend' is very demeaning and offensive to goths, as well as just not funny at all because of how it objectifies and reduces them to simply walking breasts who wear black.
Goth music is, in my opinion, some of the most accesible and palatable alternative music. The most popular genres are dark wave, electronic rock, gothic rock, industrial metal and rock, new wave, and post-punk. Some of the most popular bands are Bauhaus, Evanescence, Joy Division, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Birthday Massacre, and The Cure.
🎀 Scene
Scene is an aesthetic that originated in the 2000s on the website MySpace as a derivative aesthetic to emo. Many scene kids were considered emo posers because of their unconventional style and the music they listened to, which included genres ranging from crunkcore to metalcore, often being considered 'trashy' by other subcultures. Despite all of the hate towards scene kids, many embraced their label and many of the most popular people in the subculture started being known as scene queens who are also often credited as the first influencers. This included people such as Ambrehhhisdead, LedaMonsterBunny, and Melissa Marie Green.
Some staples to the style are colourful clothes, straightened and teased hair with colourful raccoon hair extensions, the scene swoop fringe, brass knuckles or diamond necklaces, bows, leopard print, zebra print, colourful shorts, tutus, tight clothes, sunglasses, knee high converse, band shirts, and merchandise of characters like Gir from Invader Zim, Gloomy Bear, and Hello Kitty. Personally, I would consider the modern rendition of scene, scenecore, to be a different aesthetic that, while it is pretty similar to scene, typically borrows from aesthetics like glitchcore rather than emo or mcbling.
Scene music is pretty diverse in what it provides, as it ranges from very heavy genres such as deathcore and metalcore to more pop and rap adjacent genres like crunkcore and neon pop. Some of the most prominent artists are 3OH!3, All Time Low, Asking Alexandria, Blood on the Dance Floor (unfortunately), Bring Me The Horizon, Brokencyde, Cobra Starship, Dot Dot Curve, Jeffree Star, Ke$ha, Metro Station, and Millionaires. A lot of the music is known to ignore many of the typically conventions of music, with the lyrics often containing themes relating to partying and sex.

4 2 2 1 is a Japanese-Korean band under Mono and Hybe Labels. The band members consist of: Y/n, Eunki, and Yohan. They released their debut EP “kite” on March 6th, 2023, followed by their Japanese debut EP “物の哀れ” (mono no aware) on May 20th, 2023 before releasing their self-titled debut album “4 2 2 1” February 2nd, 2024.
4 2 2 1 Concept; 4 2 2 1 show off their ability to mix and play with different genres as a band without limiting themselves to one particular music style. Often doing so through lyrics that dwell in nostalgia for adolescence, love, yearning, heartbreak, melancholy and (questioning) the meaning of life. Their visual concept aims for a sense of nostalgia using anemoia (I.e: analog technology, dated brands, and 90s-00s) that culminate in a kind of cultural esoterism.

[ENG translation] Joker Out masterfully overpowered Stožice & Joker Out’s magical night: Sold out Stožice rode the new wave
A combined news report from 24ur.com and RTV Slovenija MMC about the Stožice spectacle.
Original articles written by Boštjan Tušek for 24ur.com and Niko Hari for MMC RTV SLO on 07.10.2023.
English translation by a member of JokerOutSubs, proofread by @flowerlotus8
Joker Out is doing what no Slovenian Eurovision representative has ever done before. They have made the most out of their unenviable position at one of the biggest music spectacles in the world, better than some of the musicians who could boast a much better position in the final. Kris, Nace, Bojan, Jure and Jan have won over many new fans all over Europe, singing their hits in Slovenian. Yesterday, they crowned their dream musical year with an exceptional concert in Ljubljana's Stožice Arena. In front of their most loyal fans in a packed arena, they've proved once again that they stand side by side with the big names of Slovenian music, and are certainly the hottest Slovenian band at the moment, both at home and abroad.
Tumblr media

The stage was warmed up by Buč Kesidi, Zoran Zarubica and Luka Racić, an indie rock duo who have now returned the favour to the Jokers after both bands performed in reverse order at Zagreb's Šalata in the summer. "We met Joker Out last year at Kino Šiška when Bojan and Magnifico were doing push-ups backstage (laughs). At first we didn't believe them when they said they booked Stožice, so we did our best to sell out Šalata, where they were our support act. They managed to achieve a lot more than most in the music business, which is unbelievable. We like it in Slovenia, and Joker Out's breakthrough has helped others, because they've proved that you can succeed in your own language, people sing along with them. They've shown that you can achieve anything with music, if you believe in yourself and love what you do," Luka and Zoran told us, performing an energetic half-hour indie rock lesson with songs like 'Euforija', 'Curimo po asfaltu' and 'Nema ljubavi u klubu', which, as well as being melodic, also have pop and dance elements.
In the almost completely dark Stožice Arena, the first lonely cries of enthusiasm were heard, which quickly spread into the mass ecstasy of the (on average) young audience. Some of them started counting down the minutes until 9pm, when the concert should at least officially start. "I'm going to faint", a boy could be heard who, since the opening of the arena gates a good two hours before the concert, had been "suffering" for the prestigious and numerically limited places in front of the barricade that separated the fans from the band.
Tumblr media
The audience provided a great atmosphere. PHOTO: MMC RTV SLO/Blaž Plut
"Only a minute left," remarked a fan a few spaces closer to the centre of the stage. "No, it's not happening," the girl couldn't believe the escalating tension as the others counted down the seconds loudly: "Five, four, three, two, one..." To the tenth of a second, the screens behind the stage lit up and the door to backstage appeared for a moment.
Tumblr media

A few minutes before 9pm, "the final countdown" started, when we could see on a giant semicircular screen, the stars of the evening getting ready in the last moments before they actually took the stage. At the appointed hour, Bojan appeared on stage in a black and purple shirt with his name embroidered on black trousers, Jan in a sheer black mesh shirt with Idrija lace sewed onto it, Kris in a black glitter top with gloves for sleeves and black silk trousers, Nace in a sleeveless black T-shirt with jewellery hanging over his black trousers, and Jure in a black jacket with shiny fringe, which he quickly took off so that during the concert his torso was adorned only with shiny jewellery.
Tumblr media

It went dark again, and the screams in the jam packed arena got even louder. When the black-and-white image of the massive doors reappeared on the screens, they opened to the delight of the audience, from the backstage the Joker Out boys let their fans know that it was finally time for their biggest gig yet.
The electrifying atmosphere just before the band's arrival on stage send shivers down the spine even of the most apathetic in the arena, who had been merely accompanying the biggest fans. It was really hard to remain indifferent to such a reception of the beloved ones of this year's Stožice audience. "Scream as loud as you can", commanded the lyrics of the opening song 'Sunny Side of London', and the fans didn't have to be asked twice for a roaring response.
Tumblr media

"Stožice, are you really here? Oh my God, I can't believe it, this is it. We've waited a year for this event, a lot has happened in between, 110 times we thought it wouldn't happen at all," Bojan Cvjetićanin greeted the excited audience and invited even those furthest away in the red ring to join in the noisy record attempt. The band measures the loudness of the fans at the venue at all concerts of the tour, and the Ljubljana one set a new milestone at the Joker Out concerts - 127.9 decibels.
The enthusiasm was intensified during the songs 'Bele sanje', 'Plastika' and 'Proti toku', when smoke cannons appeared as well, which provided an additional visual effect. Otherwise, we were able to follow the action on two gigantic screens at the side and a semicircular one in the middle, where the transmission was mostly with special colour-visual effects. The Jokers let us know that the spectacle meant a lot to them, as we don't often see such screens, both in size and quality, and they "put in the bin" most of the world-famous artists or bands.

"Let's pretend we're in a club for 200 people, that we can all see each other. Hi, hi, hi... also to all of you who came from abroad," Bojan suggested and then greeted in English all those who came to listen to them from other countries. He told us that the people at the concert were from 27 countries, besides Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Italy, the Czech Republic, also Finland, Denmark, the USA, Canada, Ukraine, the UK, Luxembourg, and supposedly four people were even from Fiji.
"Thank you for being our Dopamine", he announced the next song, and with 'Padam' everyone on stage literally fell on the floor, and performed the song mostly lying down, they continued with the slightly trippy song 'Demoni' in Serbo-Croatian, where the singer proved that he would also be good in a metal band, as he pulled a growl from the bottom of his soul during the end of the dark song, which even the most skilled singers of the heavy genre would not be ashamed of. And then they played 'Katrina', which they usually play as the opening song. They were joined by a brass trio on trumpet, trombone and saxophone for 'A sem ti povedal' and 'Omamljeno telo'. "This is the best club of our lives!" the singer told the Stožice audience, continuing his story about how we should all imagine we were at a small, intimate concert.

Another phenomenon of Joker Out is their fans, who practically know the lyrics to the entire discography of the band. It's rare to see concerts in (for Slovenian conditions) large venues, where the audience sings every single verse of the songs in unison. The band's fans already proved their devotion at the concert in Križanke, where the lyrics of the songs from the then-fresh album Demoni resonated just a few days after its release.
"It's the third time we've been on the Stožice stage, twice we've been the opening act of the opening act. The first time was in 2017, where we played our very first single. We don't play that song anymore, but since this is our first solo concert in Stožice, we have to. Before the concert, many people asked us if we would bring any special guests, but this is our first solo concert, so the only suitable guests are Martin Jurkovič and Matic Kovačič," said Cvjetićanin. The audience enthusiastically greeted the original band members, who followed the crowd with looks of amazement, while the original band played their debut song - 'Kot srce, ki kri poganja'.
The eighty minutes of the concert were brought to an official end with the songs 'Metulji', 'Vse kar vem', 'Barve oceana', which were enriched with solos by Kris, Jan and Jure, and the final trio was provided by the songs 'Ngvot', 'Vem da greš' and 'Ne bi smel'. Even though the black background with credits was being played in front of our eyes, like the end of a movie, nobody wanted to believe that this was really the end.

Which it really wasn't, as the boys quickly returned to the stage and played 'Ona', with the brass section back, 'Tokio' and 'Umazane misli'. For the latter, the arena was flooded with giant white inflated balloons, to the delight of everyone, who passed them back and forth in the hall, tirelessly and with great joy. The penultimate song of the evening was the great song 'Novi val', when the coloured lights on mobile phones lit up the arena, thanks to a few girls who, before the start, handed out triangles made of coloured paper that could be attached to the lights on the phones. "Thank you for enjoying the new wave", said Bojan at the end.
After a short Eurovision introduction of some of the inserts they recorded alongside their Eurovision experience in Liverpool, the boys changed into the outfits they wore right in front of the multi-million Eurovision audience and performed 'Carpe Diem'. "Thank you for the most magical evening of our lives. We love you, thank you for being here, appreciate each other, love each other and seize every day!" said the singer at the end. It was the icing on the cake of a perfect evening, which was surely the highlight of their young lives and a new (probably golden) tick on the list of great achievements of their ever-blossoming career.
Those who remembered the concert in Križanke were waiting for a surprise after the last song, when the band returned to the stage once more and repeated 'Katrina', but every concert has to end sometime.
At the press conference
"I had a lot of feelings for after the concert, but I honestly have no sense of what's actually going on at the moment," the singer confessed to the Seventh Power after the concert, and others confirmed that they felt the same way. "I feel like we're going on a tour of these halls now," Jure added humorously.

What about tears of happiness, cries of relief and weights off your minds? "So far we've only been under a shower of happiness, and the tears usually come the next day when we melt in our mother's arms," said Jan nonchalantly, as only he can. "Why don't we cry, we cried after Cvetličarna and after Križanke, a lot. Why not here? We said before the concert that we couldn't wait to cry after the concert, because we haven't cried for a long time, but I can say that I hope with all my heart that it will really happen in a mother's arms," the singer mused. "I cried during 'Novi val', I had a genuine experience," Kris joked.
Joker Out are going on a joint holiday to Thailand, then from the end of October onwards they will play concerts in Novi Sad, Vienna, Belgrade, Zagreb, Warsaw, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Wroclaw, Poznan and more, and in December you can also catch them in Celje, Maribor and Novo mesto.
