Help
After Crystallized, Garmadon is badly injured and doesn't want to let Lloyd help him.
Request from ao3!
"Hey you there!" Garmadon yelled when he saw someone stealing something.
"Let's run!" One of the thieves shouted to the other, and they fled to the neighboring street.
"Darn it." Garmadon grumbled to himself in anger.
A leisurely walk soon turned into a futile attempt to catch criminals.
'You want to be good,' the voice inside him reminded him. 'Then help!'
"Alright!" Garmadon yelled and ran after the delinquents.
He had nothing to lose.
Or maybe he did.
Garmadon realized when he stumbled over something on the road, something placed there.
"Ouch!" Garmadon's hand hurt so much and he felt like bruises were forming all over his body.
"We did it!" He heard the thieves celebrating in the distance.
"I don't care anymore." Garmadon yelled after them. He really didn't care anymore.
"And it's nothing to me!" He pretended as he slowly wrapped his hand in his coat.
"Ggrmrn!" Garmadon groaned in pain. Why did it hurt so much?
He tried to look at his hand, but immediately gave up when he saw traces of blood and swollen flesh.
"Stupid thieves!" Garmadon grumbled as he walked towards home, the monastery.
"Dad?" Lloyd looked at Garmadon confused. "Are you heading home already?"
"Yes, I'm bored." Garmadon tried to pretend as if nothing had happened. Unsuccessfully, as Lloyd noticed his wrapped hand.
"Did you get hurt?"
"Just a little." Garmadon tried to dismiss it.
He didn't want to think about the severity of the injury now. It would make him sick just thinking about it.
"Can I take a look?" Lloyd cautiously tried to touch his hand.
"No!" Garmadon fiercely pulled it away from his son. It hurt so much.
"Dad, please..." Lloyd begged Garmadon, who squeezed his eyes shut in pain.
"It's nothing." Garmadon tried to lie.
"Don't lie to me!" Lloyd was angry. "I'm going to the monastery to find you help."
"I'm going to the monastery, but I'll help myself there!" Garmadon snapped back and continued walking.
~~~~~
"Why are you so stubborn?" Lloyd cried out in despair.
"Why are you so annoying ?!" Garmadon retorted.
He was in so much pain and wasn't in the mood to listen to Lloyd's persuasions, which he had listened to the whole way to the monastery.
"Please, dad." Lloyd tried again. "You need help. Do it for me."
Garmadon softened a bit at those words.
"You're a good boy, son." He gently patted him on the head with his uninjured hand and then tightened the bandage around his injured hand again.
"But I don't want anyone touching my wound." Garmadon hoped everything was clear. From Lloyd's expression, it wasn't clear to him.
"Please let me be alone." Garmadon asked Lloyd and sat on the couch.
His hand was trembling so much, and he felt nauseous. Terribly nauseous.
"I'll get you some water." Lloyd said softly. "Then we'll talk." Obviously concerned, Garmadon noticed.
"Should he have been?" he quietly wondered. The pain in his hand became unbearable and the nausea even worse.
Soon he felt the world spinning around him. He just wanted it all to stop.
"Lloyd?" He tried to ask but his voice wouldn't come out.
"Dad..." He faintly heard Lloyd's voice. The last thing he remembered was grabbing the glass in his hands.
And then everything turned black.
~~~~~
"Dad..." Lloyd returned to the living room. Garmadon didn't look too bad, just lost.
"Here's some water." Lloyd bent down and handed him the glass. Garmadon took it.
Lloyd turned around to get something when he heard a loud thud.
"Dad!" Lloyd shouted and rushed to Garmadon, who lay unconscious on the couch and the glass was broken on the floor.
~~~~
Garmadon slowly opened his eyes. He didn't remember much.
"Where am I?" He asked, and then the images began to return to him.
Hand..
Bandits...
Lloyd...
"Dad." Lloyd gently took his hand. "We gave you some medicine and cleaned the wound, are you feeling better?"
"It doesn't hurt," Garmadon noticed in surprise. "It's just numb. Is it bad?."
"Quite a lot," Lloyd pushed. "But you'll be fine.I will take care of you.And you have no choice."
I'm gonna rant about Zane for a moment so bear with me
Zane's Motif is Humanity and Betrayal.
From his first conversations with the group, to his chapter book, to Night of the Nindroids, to Tournament of Elements, to SOG/Hunted/MOTO, to the Ice Emperor, to Crystalized, and now Dragons Rising- there is a repetition of Zane not being human. 'He's not like us'. 'He's weird... no, he's weird weird.'
Going into the Pilot Era (Season 0 through S1E6 The Snake King), Zane was always different in how he spoke, acted, and almost existed. Part of this is the brilliant voice acting by Brent Miller- he/Zane speaks very eloquently, a bit monotone but still full of emotion. "Yes. It was a joke. Ha, ha." "The Golden Weapons have left this realm and are now in the Underworld. The end is drawing near." Zane is blunt in how he speaks, yet internally he's in pain. He doesn't know where he comes from, where his family is, or who is family is. One of my favorite lines is from the early chapter books, Kai: Ninja of Fire. "I envy you." "No, I envy the fact that you know they're gone." Zane, at this point, is orphaned with no memory of his family. Kai decides to drop everything to help Zane find his old village and look for any sign of his past (fun fact: Zane and Kai are drugged in his book, I'm dead serious). Although, they do not find anything to help Zane and his past, it allows the pair to bond and grow closer.
In Zane's own chapter book, he is tempted by Garmadon for information about his past. If he gives up the Golden Weapons (and betrays his friends), Garmadon would tell him about his family and their whereabouts. This is the first of numerous instances of someone in power tempted Zane with something he desires, but to achieve it he would have to betray his friends. Zane is tempted. He misses the idea of what his family could be, the false idea of where he came from. Zane, of course, doesn't fall for it, but it's a lingering wonder of is Garmadon telling the truth? Did he really know who Zane's family was? Were they still alive, looking for him?
My favorite graphic novel, (other than the first volume, The Challenge of Samukai), is Night of the Nindroids. This book, taking place between the Art of the Silent Fist and Blackout, focuses on Zane and his feeling of isolation. Yes, he's a ninja, but he's a nindroid. Is he truly on the right team, or should he be with his own kind? In NITN, Zane is separated from the team and brought to the Overlord (Garmadon calls him a "toaster with attitude").
"What are you afraid of? Or can a collection of nuts and bolts even feel fear? No, you can't. Not fear, not hate, not even love, just imitations of those feelings. You are a robot. But I have the power to make you more! Defeat the other ninja for me, and I will transfer your mind into one of their bodies! I will make you human!" the Overlord to Zane.
On a side note: Night of the Nindroids is an incredibly fucked up concept. Zane would get to choose who's body he would take over, inevitably killing the original person. He chooses Kai, meaning (if) he went through with it, he would be living in Kai's body while Kai himself is dead. :)
Back to the point. Zane is tempted with the idea of becoming human. Of feeling emotions, of being able to get hurt, of "feeling the sun on your skin", of being normal. And, he does agree to work with the Overlord (as mentioned previously, choosing Kai's body to inhabit). He, single-handedly, takes down Cole, Jay, and Kai. Zane, though, doesn't want Lloyd anywhere near the events so he sends him away to bond with Sensei Garmadon, but he also sends Nya on a mission. He knows that Nya is intelligent and needs her out of the way for everything to succeed. Even the cover itself shows Zane's separation from the team; while Kai/Jay/Cole are caught, Zane is in front with his internal systems being revealed. He's even in his damaged appearance, showing the mechanics under his false skin. I won't spoil it, because it is a fantastic graphic novel, but it shows that Zane by himself is incredibly strong and powerful.
Tournament of Elements is the death of Human!Zane and the introduction of Titanium!Zane. In his previous appearance, he was able to pass as a human, unless he was drastically injured, but now, in his titanium form, it's even more obvious that he's different. He has PTSD and panic attacks from his encounter with Death. Zane, at this point in time, is the only one who's died and come back, further separating him from being human. But, I feel like, this could aid in his desire for humanity. He knows how precious life is, he knows how easily things can go from bad to impossible. His whole reasoning for living is "to protect those who cannot protect themselves"- from an outside perspective, it's a way for him to be a hero. But, on a deeper level, its almost a suicidal way of seeing things. He was built to face the danger so others wouldn't. Now, that's just my perspective on that.
The Oni Trilogy brings in Zane's cloaking. A way for him to be human again, while still being himself. He's able to switch between blending into the crowd in plain sight versus being himself. Though this does not change how he acts, it allows him a cover especially for when he needs to be hidden (Snake Jaguar).
Now. The Ice Emperor. Arguably the opposition to Zane himself. The Ice Emperor is what could've happened if someone found pre-pilot Zane and used him for their own selfish desires. Both start out as someone with no memories, no compass, just a lost child. Zane, pre-pilot, finds the village he later lives in and allows himself to be aided. Here, he is given things to do and ways to help others before being given the chance, by Wu, to find and better himself. The Ice Emperor is turned into a weapon. He's not allowed to think for himself, every decision is made and manipulated by Vex. The dialogue between IE and Vex is repetitious. The Ice Emperor is stripped of his humanity, betraying himself in the process. His powers are used to cause pain and suffering, killing Krag's family, freezing the Formlings, and causing a realm-wide ice age.
Even how the Ice Emperor sits on his throne shows how captive he is to Vex. Every time that IE moves from the throne, he has to shatter the layer of ice that forms over his arms/body. He's constantly asleep/powered down, possibly due to the amount of energy the Staff is demanding (especially for holding it for so many decades).
Crystalized is the closest Zane gets to voluntarily losing his humanity. the Ice Emperor was forcefully stripped from him, but Crystalized has him choose to lock his emotions away. He doesn't know how to deal with the grief of losing Nya. Even being with Pixal and Cole can't get him out of his depressive funk. It takes an outside perspective of allowing emotions out for him to see that its okay to be emotional, that being emotional is being human.
Timeline of Ninjago
Here's my speculation on what the timeline of Ninjago looks like. It happens to align with our timeline as, with the merge time skip, it now totals 13 years of in-show time. I understand it's likely poor quality, so here's it split in half. If anyone knows how to turn Google Sheets into an image file I'd appreciate it greatly.
I'd like to start with a note that, aside from the evidence I'll go through later in this post, this was largely a speculative timeline, so there were often ranges of time I had to choose from. Anywhere from a month to a year could have passed between some of these seasons. I tended to use the most conservative estimates. Thus, I sometimes like to think of my timeline as "at least this much time has passed between x and y events." Now for the evidence.
Dialogue
As you are likely well aware as a fan of the show, any sort of mention of an exact measure of time or age is exceedingly rare in Ninjago. However, fortunately for me there have been a few glimmers in the dark.
In season one, Cole mentions that the Blade Cup is an annual competition. This information would have proven useless if not for the fact that in Posession, when Cole finds the Blade Cup in Ronin's shop, he laments "my dad danced hard for this." As the cup would have belonged to the ninja in season one, Lou must have won the cup back in a later competition. Thus, at least a year must have passed between the Rise of the Snakes and Possession.
In Sons of Garmadon Cole once again helps me out by saying "it's been a year" in reference to Wu's disappearance at the end of Hands of Time.
In Hunted, Jay refers to himself and the ninja as "grown-up teenagers." For me, this means the human members of the core four are 18-19 at this point. This info may seem less helpful for a timeline, but just wait.
At the beginning of Forbidden Secrets, Wu says it's been months since the defeated the Oni.
This is only relavant for my "Zane's perspective" timeline but at one point in the Ice chapter, the Ice Emperor says to Lloyd that it had been "many... decades."
At the beginning of Master of the Mountain, Nya says to Jay that they had been gone a while and lists off the adventures of Forbidden Secrets and Prime Empire. This indicates to me that all three seasons had to have happened relatively close together.
At the beginning of the Island, Lloyd refers to a prison breakout having happened last month. Ungami freed all of the prisoners during Prime Empire. However, this time period mention had to be balanced by the fact that Misako had been missing for "several weeks" by the Island but was present during Master of the Mountain. My ruling here is that by last month, Lloyd is referring to for instance, August, which for me would have been 8 weeks ago at this point. An issue in my timeline is that the smallest unit I am able to mark is a month. Thus, even though it's likely that these 10 minute era seasons were closer to a week in length, I must mark them as a month.
In Seabound, when P.I.X.A.L. reveals the Hydrobounty, she says that she had been "tinkering with it in my spare time for the past several years." As P.I.X.A.L. only regained her body and access the Ninja's various workshops during Hands of Time, at least 3 years had to have passed between Hands of Time and Seabound.
In the first episode of Crystalized, the mayor and Gayle state that exactly a year had passed since Nya became the sea.
In Dragons Rising, there's many references to how years had passed since the merge including the existence of annual competitions and holidays. The most clearest one for me is when Nya says to Zane "it's been years."
When Kai first meets Arin and Sora he says to Lloyd "And who are the kids?." Because a teenager is unlikely to call other teenagers kids, I view this statement as meaning that Kai is probably in his mid-20s at this point, and thus at least 6 years had to have passed since Hunted, when Jay referred to them as "grown-up teenagers."
Lego Legs
The only clear marking we have of age in the show is when a character's legs are swapped out. This has happened naturally to 5 characters that I'm aware of: Nelson, Harumi, Arin, Sora, and Riyu (Technically Jordanna as well but it feels right to leave her out). I'm going to ignore what the leg sizes mean in other properties (ex: Star Wars and Dreamzzz (which recently revealed all the characters' ages which is crazy)) and stick to an interpretation that I think makes sense with Ninjago. These are the general age ranges, but they vary based on vibes. People are different heights of course. Child: -∞ to 11 Medium: 11 to 13 Basic: 13 to ∞
Harumi was really the foundation of this whole chart. The reveal of her backstory was extremely exciting as it meant there was a minimum time that had passed between seasons 1 and 8. To go with my "at least" general rule, I'll put her at the maximum child age (11) and assuming she's around Lloyd's age during season 8, at least 3 or 4 years would have had to pass between seasons 1 and 8, likely more.
Nelson is the only character that has gone from kid legs to medium legs. I sort of question whether teen legs are even being used anymore because as far as I know, we haven't seen them since. Either way, as they're so rare I tend to think of them as pre-teen legs for Ninjago. Thus, even if Nelson was at the max pre-teen age (13), similarly to the Harumi jump, at least 3 years or so had to have passed between Skybound and Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu. This turned out to line up quite nicely with the dialogue evidence.
Sora and Arin both had child-sized legs when the Merge happened. When we meet them in the present, they have adult legs. This means that they would have had had to go from at most 11 to at least 13. On a purely vibes basis, Sora acts a bit older than Arin so I put this jump at just over 3 years so that the both of them can fully make the leap from small to medium to basic legs.
Riyu makes the jump from a dog-sized dragon to a horse sized dragon. The latest we see him as a dog-sized dragon is in the Mech Shorts, which, according to Arin's pie competitions, takes place a year after the Crossroads Carnival. Going by my at least rule though, I still stick Blood Moon at just over a year after the beginning of Dragons Rising. This is mainly because I see the way legos grow as just one day >pop< they're bigger. No in-betweens. We don't know Riyu's age or the dragon life cycle and there's no medium legs to gauge time by. Thus, I think of the mech shorts as occuring the day before Riyu hit dragon puberty. However, I may put more time between DR and Blood Moon if I get any more information.
Vibes
I used the leg sizes and dialogue as guidelines I had to stick to. The final placement of the seasons on the timeline is based on vibes. As you can tell by my at-least rule, I didn't like to put a significant time-skip between seasons unless I have good reason. Truthfully, since seaosn 8, while I love timeskips I've been suprised each time like a year is said to have passed between seasons as the ninja can only be young for so long. I thought the close together temporally seasons of the 10 minute era was sort of the writers parking the brakes on needless timeskips, but then there was a year between Seabound and Crystalized. Also, of course, the Merge but at this point we seem to have stopped pretending the Ninja are teenagers so it matters less. Of course, we still have Arin, Wyldfire, and Sora so it will be interesting to see how fast time passes. I plan on going through the more speculative reasoning between why I placed each season the way I did, but I'd like to keep this post to more "concrete data" on the timeline. Thanks for reading this far! I'm sure I missed things, so do let me know if you have any additional evidence or suggestions! As a bonus, here's Zane's perception of the timeline.
Koko meeting Sensei G, while not knowing that this is the alternative version of her ex husband, who is trying to be good dad after the whole Oni Event (Lloyd is glad that his dad is supposedly back but he has doubts and also has plans to deal with things if this turns out to be emperor Garmadon playing a trick on him)
Basically, TRUST ISSUES
Koko: kids these days, such a handful you know?
Sensei G: oh I agree, miss Koko. My boy is simply precious but he's definitely speeding up the process of my hair going white. I actually found a photo of me and him when he was a baby.
Koko: oh can I have a look?
Sensei G: Of course, miss Koko.
Koko finds the photo of younger Sensei G and his son to be absolutely adorable but she wonders why all of their eyes are red ('Must be because of the camera flash' she thought) and why Sensei G's son looks incredibly familiar.
Sensei G: I was quite surprised that he got father's hair colour but he definitely takes after me the most. He even has my eyes
Sensei G being a proud dad. Koko who doesn't know about her ex-husband's past human form (Wu hasn't told her about it) just thinks it's cute how Sensei G loves his son so much.
Here's me shamelessly advertising my fic of this au: here
Misako, watching Wu and lord Garmadon fight: Are you sure they should be fighting? What if they get hurt?
Lloyd, not bothered by the chaos: It’s fine. They’re too evenly matched to hurt each other.
Misako: Then... who’s the strongest out of you three?
Wu: Lloyd .
Lord Garmadon: Lloyd .
Lloyd : Me.
_______________________________
Misako: We need to distract you're father and uncle.
Lloyd: Leave it to me.
Lloyd: Centaurs have six limbs and are therefore insects. Discuss.
Wu & Sensei Garmadon: *immediately begin arguing*
____________________________________
Lloyd, teaching Misako to drive the ninja's faster vehicles: Okay, you're driving and Dad and Uncle Wu walk into the road. Quick, what do you hit?
Misako: Oh, definitely Wu. I could never hurt you're father.
Lloyd, massaging his temples: The brakes, Mom. You hit the brakes.
____________________________________
Lloyd, holding a Wii mote with a knife attached: Are Wii gonna have a problem?
Emperor Garmadon, bringing out their switch remote with a blade: You best switch up that attitude.
-An hour later...-
Wu, in the ambulance: Wii-U! Wii-U! Wii-U!
Misako: I worry for this insane family.
____________________________________
Wu: How did none of you hear what I just said?!
Lloyd: I've been zoned out for the past two and a half hours.
Misako: I got distracted halfway through.
Lord Garmadon : Ignoring you was a conscious decision.
____________________________________
Lloyd: I fell down the stairs today...
Wu: I hope you're okay.
Emperor Garmadon: Stop falling down the stairs.
Misako: How'd the ground taste?
____________________________________
Wu: Hi, could I ask how exactly does one accidentally set a lemon on fire??
Lloyd: Microwave for 40 minutes. 😔
Sensei Garmadon: Why were you microwaving a lemon???
Lloyd: I read boiling lemons helps cover up up bad smells (I wanted to cover up the scent of burnt oranges) but I didn't own any pots.
Misako: Did you burn an orange too? How???
Lloyd: Microwave for 40 minutes. 😔
____________________________________
Lloyd : *Gasp*
Wu: wHAT??
Lloyd: What if soy milk is just milk introducing itself in Spanish?
Wu: *inhales*
Garmadon, in another room with Misako: Why can I hear screeching?
____________________________________
Sensei Garmadon: Who wants to go out of the country on a road trip?
Lloyd: Yea, I could drink legally!
Misako: I can do more research!
Wu: I could hide from the consequences of my actions.
____________________________________
Evil Wu Au
Misako: So Wu was just using me?
Garmadon: I’m sorry, Misako.
Lloyd, trying to contain his amusement: You must feel pretty stupid right now.
Misako:
Garmadon: Ok, that’s a time-out.
Lloyd: No, I was just trying to-
Garmadon: Go sit over there!
Lloyd: *walks away in defeat*
____________________________________
Sensei Garmadon: For self defense reasons, I'm going to pretend to be a burglar and you guys have to act wisely.
Wu, Misako, & Lloyd: Okay.
Garmadon: If you don't want to die, give me all your money.
Misako: Bold of you to assume I have money.
Lloyd: Bold of you to assume I don't want to die.
Wu: Bold of you to assume I can die.
GARMADON ESSAY
// SPOILERS FOR NINJAGO SEASONS 3, 8, 9, AND 16
So this is real different from my usual posts, but this is something I've wanted to write about for awhile.
In this post I'm gonna just...explain my views on Garmadon? Not really sure of the best term to use to explain it; of course, it's just my opinion, but I wanna give people different views on his character, yk? I have really strong feelings about this topic so...I imagine this post will be pretty long.
If you have any requests for Ninjago characters you'd want me to do essays on like this lmk and I'll definitely try and get to it...I'll probably do one on Zane at some point.
Anyways, lets beginnn
Okay so let me just warn you again, this post is probably going to be EXTREMELY long and is all just writing. Basically an essay because I'm not sure how else to express my feelings on the matter other than in writing.
Anyways; I am going to try and structure the points I want to make chronologically...kind of. In each of the sections, I will be focusing on the main topic listed, but I may pull evidence from future or past seasons to support what I'm saying. So, the topics go chronologically, but the evidence will not...if that makes sense.
Here are the topics im going to cover in order, I'll expand on them in each of their respective sections;
Sensei Garmadon
Season 8 Fight w/ Lloyd
Christofern
Oni Training w/ Lloyd
Sensei Garmadon
So, this a lot more of a personal opinion, but I do not consider that Sensei Garmadon is different from Lord/Emperor Garmadon. I may be taking what people say wrong, but in my opinion I don't think that Sensei Garmadon is different from current Garmadon in any capacity; he was just in different circumstances. So, let me explain my views on this.
This is obviously not the best evidence because it can be easily defended by what is literally said in canon, but I thought I'd mention it anyways; I do not believe that the Great Devourer bite caused Garmadon to turn evil. It definitely changed him, but I don't think it corrupted him. In my honest opinion, I think that the only thing the Great Devourer bite did was awaken Garmadon's Oni side, and the FSM considered this to be "corruption".
But, despite my above claim being basically blatanly disproven by canon, it's...technically not completely disproven. It is obvious throughout the show that Garmadon is not completely cold-hearted and evil. He shows obvious care for Lloyd, as well as Misako. So it can be said that, even if the Great Devourer did corrupt him in some capacity, it did not do so completely.
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I think that Garmadon only turned out "evil" because that is what he was viewed as. His entire life, he was raised to believe he was evil, and everyone around him believed he was evil. The FSM saw Garmadon's Oni blood obviously outweighing his dragon blood, and considered that to be evil, and likely passed that belief onto Wu, whether intentional or not.
Now, this is where I go back to the main topic, Sensei Garmadon. I think that Sensei Garmadon didn't act "evil" because he felt as though he didn't have to any more. I don't really know how to explain how exactly Garmadon's form changed occurred as a result of the Overlord un-possessing him, but Oni can shapeshift, so it is plausible that Garmadon didn't change as a person, but his view on himself changed. Therefore, he felt he no longer had to be evil because nobody around him was claiming he was anymore.
Season 8 Fight w/ Lloyd
This is like, one of the biggest points I have to make. I want to say, before I get into it; I am not trying to completely remove all blame from Garmadon, but I just want to explain my personal thoughts on the situation.
So, firstly, I'd like to address Garmadon's very first line of dialogue before the fight; It was foolish to come here.
Now this shows that it's likely Garmadon did not want to fight. Of course, it could've been more of a threat, but in my mind it seems more as though he had hoped Lloyd would not fall for the trap.
I would also like to mention how much is probably going through Garmadon's mind during Season 8 and Season 9, in general.
He has just been ripped from the claws of death, and is probably in insane amounts of pain (his voice sounds strained during the fight, not mention his ribcage is literally showing), and the first thing he is told is that he has to kill his son to reach his true potential, and to protect his father's realm. A lot of people don't acknowledge that Harumi literally manipulated Garmadon and I think that's really crazy?? Like, she takes advantage of the fact he's struggling with amnesia and is in pain and is like "lol i brought you back as purely evil and all you can do is cause destruction because you're fully oni!!! go murder your son now!!!" Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I don't think that the fight with Lloyd in Season 8 is entirely Garmadon's fault. There's a lot of things that fueled how he was feeling-- not to mention what he says right after Lloyd speaks to him for the first time; You've...you've changed.
I'd be kinda upset too-- if the first time I see my son in years, he's completely changed, basically gone through puberty.
tldr, I think that manipulation and generally being overwhelmed fueled a lot of what Garmadon did in s8-s9 in general, not just the fight scene.
Christofern
This one means a lot to me. Like I have such strong feelings about this.
I HATE when people say "Garmadon cares about a plant more than his own son!!"
Guys. The plant is Garmadon's way of trying to learn compassion and be better so that he can make it up to Lloyd. Christofern in general is a metaphor for Lloyd, Christofern is Garmadon's symbol for Lloyd.
They even point this out in the show during a discussion between Nya and Garmadon!
Nya: Why are you carrying around a plant?
Garmadon: It was the only green in my life. I had hoped it would grow, and thrive, and perhaps, one day ... forgive me. But now it's gone, and I am alone.
Nya: We're talking about the plant, right?
Garmadon: Of course! What else?
Obviously Garmadon says that he's just talking about Christofern, but,, c'mon...do you really think this man is going to admit he's a little sentimental to any of the ninja... he's literally the emotional wall of the century... /hj
Also, this conversation with Nya is had IMMEDIATELY after Lloyd storms off because Garmadon said he was positive they would lose to the Overlord.
So the line But now it's gone, and I am alone. could easily be Garmadon projecting that he's upset that their conversation ended badly and Lloyd stormed off, and that Lloyd will probably get hurt or die in the battle.
Oni Training w/ Lloyd
This one is pretty simple for me to explain, but I've seen a lot of people that don't like how harsh Garmadon was when he was trying to teach Lloyd how to achieve his Oni form.
Personally, I'm nearly 100% sure that Garmadon was only being as mean as he was to inspire Lloyd to be angry so that he could achieve his Oni form; of course this isn't really the best way to go about it, but Garmadon probably only knows how to trigger his Oni form when it is correlated with anger and/or distress, so he probably assumed it would be the same for Lloyd.
I also think this applies to him faking his death; but of course it was extreme and I can understand being upset about it.
So...that's all I had to say. I might come back and add more later? Sorry if this was really incoherent I just typed this all up in one sitting to get it off my mind. In general, I just hope to give people a different perspective on Garmadon's character I suppose? I just,, don't really like that he's like...usually hated or only simped over.
But, again, this is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to change yours <3
Emperor of Ninjago (4)
• Days after it was believed that Kai had died in combat, Morro, Master of the Wind and Wu's apprentice, formed his new group of rebels called "The Ghosts", his group was made up of extremists and Wu soldiers who violently attacked bases and Emperor Garmadon's labor camps to steal weapons and other resources for his cause. This new rebel group caused several problems for the rulers of other kingdoms, civilians, and other rebels of the Wu Resistance, as their attacks made it difficult to rescue prisoners and properly weaken Garmadon's forces.
• As Wu did not want to start new disputes with his former apprentice's group, he let Morro and his followers do what they wanted and ordered his soldiers and the Ninjas not to interfere in Morro's work, but to rescue the people innocent in danger. Even though both sides supported each other, there are several moments where everyone disagrees due to their ideas and actions.
• After a year of living in the palace Kai became Lloyd's only servant and guardian, but so that the Overlord would not suspect Kai, Garmadon ordered Kai to join the training of the palace soldiers, but he would have special training, generals Kozu and Samukai would personally take care of his training, although Kai's training would be difficult, Garmadon knew it would be the only way to make Kai become stronger so he could better protect Lloyd from any danger in the future.
• Kai's training was too violent and rigorous, it was fortunate that Kai was already in good shape to be able to withstand the training of the two generals, but Kai knew that this type of training would be too different from the one he received from Wu, Kai had he had to hide many of his Ninja skills so that no one would suspect that he was the Red Ninja, which is why he sometimes allowed himself to be beaten in training and had to always keep up with the other recruits.
• Kai's training was not every day, since Kai had to be by Lloyd's side and fulfill his role as guardian, but every time Kai finished his training he at least received medical attention from the palace doctors and was allowed them to return to their cell to rest. . But Garmadon had ordered that Kai finally have his own room, which was close to Lloyd's room, it was not that big but at least it was comfortable for Kai, so it would be better to hide the notes and maps of the palace from the guards.
• Despite the painful training, Kai was still able to continue his duties by accompanying Lloyd in his activities, and in addition, Garmadon was able to discreetly provide Kai with more information about places he could investigate within the palace, Garmadon even gave him the key where Garmadon had hidden the Overlord's research and the Green Ninja prophecy. But the part of the palace where the hidden room was located was sometimes heavily guarded by guards, so he could not stay in the room for long and could only carry very few books and scrolls.
• Kai also discovered that the room contained many images of Empress Misako and Emperor Garmadon when he was still a normal human, as well as other family portraits and images of the First Spinjitzu Master. Kai must have assumed that Garmadon hid them when he was free from the Overlord and the poison of the Great Devourer.
• There are times when Lloyd always asked Kai various things about what Ninjago was like before, Lloyd knew from the stories he heard in his classes that apparently Ninjago was governed differently before his father became emperor. Kai told him that Ninjago had not previously been enslaved by his father and that it was a peaceful and prosperous kingdom without the need for numerous wars. These stories always surprised Lloyd and he always asked Kai to tell him more about Ninjago's past.
• But Kai always asked Lloyd not to tell anyone about his stories since it could be dangerous, Lloyd promised not to tell anyone since he didn't want to get Kai in trouble, whom he already saw as his older brother.
• On Lloyd's seventh birthday, Harumi, daughter of the leaders of the Jamanakai people and members of Garmadon's council, appeared before the prince and, being the same age, the two immediately became close friends. Upon learning this, Garmadon let Harumi and her family be able to visit the palace whenever they wanted, Kai did not trust Harumi's parents as they were very loyal to Garmadon and his cause, but if he trusted little Harumi, Kai could see that Lloyd and Harumi were very similar, and he always accompanied them in their games in the palace courtyard or in Lloyd's game room.
• Kai told Lloyd and Harumi other stories about Ninjago, both children were fascinated by Kai's stories and always imagined that one day they would see all the things Kai always told them. Kai even helped the children create toys so they could play together, since then the two children became great friends and Kai really liked being around both children.
• As time went by Kai became more and more tolerant of the generals' training, sometimes Garmadon even confronted Kai just to show everyone that Kai was worthy of their trust, at least that lessened the guards' suspicions. Lloyd didn't like seeing Kai hurt after every training, only Kai calmed him down by telling him more stories about Ninjago, Kai even told him about his grandfather, the First Master, his father Garmadon's previous life, when he was still a good emperor, and about his mother Misako.
• Lloyd never heard much about her mother, the Empress, even her guardians avoided talking about her, Kai was the first person to talk about her openly, he didn't think that Kai was previously part of the royal guard that protected his parents, but Lloyd was at least happy to know that his parents were kind people in the past. Lloyd even wondered if his father would one day be free of the Overlord's control and the Great Devourer's poison.
• On Lloyd's eighth birthday, Kai met Skylor, daughter of Lord Chen, who built a fortress to train other soldiers who would participate in battles against the rebels, but what no one knew was that Skylor was a spy for the Resistance of Wu, she joined Wu after freeing numerous rebels who were found in Chen's work camp, the rebels confirmed this to Wu and one day they both met secretly, Skylor gave information to Wu and since then she He became a valuable source of information for the rebellion.
• When Skylor met Kai she knew immediately that he was the late Red Ninja since she previously met Nya, who became close and Nya showed Skylor a photo of Kai, obviously Kai asked her to keep the secret and Skylor promised her that his secret was safe with her, but that was how the two formed an alliance to help the rebellion, Kai gave his notes to Skylor and she made sure to give them to the rebels who escaped and returned to the Resistance.
• Skylor even became a good friend to Lloyd, the two got along well and that made Kai feel better, even Skylor fought Kai just to pretend that they were both still trustworthy to Garmadon and Chen. There were times when Kai had to accompany Garmadon to make some conquests and he could not avoid fighting against some rebels and soldiers who sought to protect the towns and kingdoms from him. And in order not to be discovered, Kai never took off his mask so that no rebel would recognize him. He also invented a false name, Kai called himself the “Red Shogun,” and he only used it when he entered the battlefield.
• Also, there was an occasion in which the Ghosts impudently attacked the palace at night, and it was when Garmadon was not in the palace since he was on another conquest, Kai luckily was there and was able to protect Lloyd from the attack, The Ghosts, seeing that their attack was unsuccessful, fled, but Kai knew that it was time to teach Lloyd to defend himself.
• Lloyd was forbidden to fight by orders of Garmadon and the Overlord, the Overlord thought that perhaps Lloyd would be a threat if he learned to fight and Garmadon had no choice but to prevent his soldiers from training Lloyd. Kai secretly taught Lloyd, as long as no one saw, he taught him inside his room, in some blind spots in the yard and in the forest. In order not to attract too much attention Lloyd and Kai pretended that their outdoor training was games, Lloyd was the one who said that he himself invented the games, only then would the guards stop interrogating Kai.
• Kai began by teaching Lloyd basic self-defense techniques and ways to be in good physical condition, and it was fortunate that Lloyd was an agile child and attentive to everything that was happening in his environment. It was then that Kai began to talk about the Green Ninja prophecy to Lloyd, Lloyd thought it was an interesting story, since then he always asked Kai to tell it to him every night before going to sleep.
Possible spoilers for dragons rising season 2 ahead
this is a theory based on new leaks, so it might contain spoilers
So we just got a first concrete leak of the Story for dragons rising season 2
So Ras is apparently trying to free the forbidden five, five evil and powerful elemental masters, who once ruled the world. This being a lego series and needing drama, he will likely succeed in this, which might mean, that the tournament in summer truly is another tournament of elements, only this time between two actual sides, instead of a kind of battle royale.
The forbidden five were first mentioned in the description of the garmadon comic coming out later this year, which ties into the plot of season 2. If i remember correctly, that comic plays at around the same time, as the serpent wars, so the forbidden five might have been banished sometime around then. So here is my listing, of who they might be:
Cinder:
maybe he was the elemental master of smoke at the time of the serpent wars, because if i recall we never saw that EM in any of the flashbacks. Maybe he was banished to another realm, possibly the Wyldness, and had his powers taken from him, which went on later to find a new host in Ash, who we met during the original tournament of elements. Maybe the Source dragon Energy Ras now has thanks to Jordana is going to be used to restore Cinder‘s powers and make him an elemental master again. This could be Ras plan for all pf the five, which is why he might need a lot of source dragon energy.
2. a past EM of metal
we never saw the EM of metal before Karlof, so maybe they were one of the forbidden five and were banished, with their powers finding a new host in Ninjago.
3. a past EM of shape
we never saw an EM of shape before Chamille, although granted, they could have looked however they wanted and we would have no way of knowing if the might have been the unknown elemental master, seen in the flashback, in which case they were not one of the forbidden five
this is the EM fro. the flashback i‘m talking about
4. past EM of mind
same story as the two above, with Mind possibly being more likely to have been the power of a ruler due to its power to, well, control the minds of others
and finally
5. the EM of an unknown element
now, while we do not know this Elemental masters element, we have actually seen both the master and their element being used. The only thing is, that this elemental master is dead. My theory is, that his element was some sort of energy, which he used to create incredibly advanced Technology. After he and the other forbidden five were defeated and banished, some of his loyal followers came with him into exile, into a realm of many dragons, where they used his power and technology to build themselves a kingdom. The many dragons, or the fact that he had children after being banished, might have meant that his power did not find it‘s way back to ninjago, instead remaining in his older twin daughter and heir to his throne. The elemental masters name?
Levo, emperor of imperium and father of Zeatrix and Beatrix Vespasian-Orus, the former of whom inherited his powers
Ouch.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
Ouch.
Ok. Um, ouch.
So, Emperor Garmadon. Is a thing now.
Lloyd is going to need some magical healing stuff, and I think Mystake might have some tea for that. Or she should if she doesn't. It would make sense, considering all of the other teas we've seen her give the ninja over the past couple of seasons.
The other ninja are going to have to airlift Lloyd out of the desert first, like they did for Zane earlier this season.
There really is only one more episode left for the season, huh. This season just feels different, despite the fact it's hitting the same story beats as the past ones. I'm guessing it's the darker tone overall, which is good, but there's just something... different that I can't explain.
I know in the next episode we're going to get a big battle. We're going to have to deal with the LOT of fallout from this episode alone. I'm just not sure what to really expect to happen next.
I'm going to take an hour break here to stretch my legs, grab a snack and a drink, and take my dog on a walk -- not in that order. I'll be back soon!
Group C, Round 2, Poll 5:
Propaganda under the cut
Beroba
Teenage girl who is actually a creepy old lady. She’s like sadist horny for the most mentally ill man in the cast but don’t get me wrong she is happy to torment the girls too! He desire is to with was the Ultimate Suffering. Future bitch from the future who sponsors the monsters in the death game reality show the main characters fight in. Did I mention this is squid games the superhero show for Japanese ten year olds? She manages to steal the way to control the whole system from the staff and take everything over. She sets up all the trickery that has the main three guys fighting each other and the female lead to descend into despair. Her characters song can be described as “Beroba and her Bitch Boys” and includes a line that more or less translates to “Staff won’t let me bite you people of the past so I settle with red Jellybeans”. She eats Jellybabies, which are larger. She has such big dick energy she gets a giant lollipop and hands her male partner in crime a tiny one. The only reason she lost was her own vanity and desire to torment Michinaga (her bitch boy and also her Oshi who she wants to see suffer) with what he lost. Turns out he got it back. Her Ridersona is a four story tall bull mech.
Harumi
Oo boy where to I start. She emotionally manipulates the main character and then uses his emotions against him to revive his dad but evil. She ran a biker gang/cult and only let her three top generals know who she was. She went to extreme measures to get what she wanted, including burning down her palace and killing her adoptive parents.
some of her greatest hits include: Gaslighing Garmadon into hating Lloyd (his son), Gatekeeping being Garmadon's Son (even though she's not related to him and also a girl), Girlbossing her way to becoming the leader of a terrorist group while also being the Princess of Ninjago. siccing the terrorist group on the royal family, killing the king and queen because she hated them and didn't wanna be princess anyways, she'd rather be the evil puppet master behind a necromanced figurehead dictator.
Harumi is such a girlboss shes an orphan and was adopted by the emperor and empress and then BLEW UP THE PALACE AND KILLED THEM and she resurrected lord garmadon (evil!!!) and runs a criminal org/biker gang also she had this relationship with Lloyd where she pretty much just manipulated him but other than that I support her evilness
"Okay so after an unfortunate tragic pass of her parents dying in a freak accident, she has dedicated her life in taking revenge on those who are even somewhat linked to their death. I'm talking, she manipulated her way into the royal family to get resources, starts a cult/gang worshiping one of the worst villains to ever hit the realms, and also completely plays with one of the ninja's feelings to get what she wants. Oh, yeah his feelings? She knew he had trauma, issues, just wanted to be loved, AND SHE USED THAT before leaving him to die on multiple occasions. She's also one of the few villains to actually win. Like she gets what she was aiming for, she wins. So yeah, Harumi is a girlboss."
This is a continuation of this post! Now to get into the third terrible topic: the tragedy of the Julien family. I've spoken before about how isolation creates monstrosity, and how this is sort of the "family theme" of the Juliens. However now I want to talk about how it coincides with the other common thread: an inability to face grief head-on and properly work through it. Julien avoids grief. He isolates himself from the world, surrounds himself with his own creation (which, as mentioned earlier, can give someone a bit of a god complex). When he dies, he tries to keep his son from experiencing any sort of grief by erasing his memory, which only creates a boy who's further isolated from the world, because he doesn't know his place in it. When he is captured and held prisoner by the Skulkin, he tries to avoid grieving the separation from his son by creating a replica. By his own admission, he feels like a monster for having done so, because on some deep level he knows that trying to replace Zane was wrong. Having Echo around most likely only created more grief, because he was so much like Zane and yet never quite enough. But once again, instead of facing that grief, he pushed away the source and locked it in a basement. Zane does not initially have this problem of wanting to avoid his problems. He even asks his father to remove his memory switch, because he doesn't want to forget his loved ones again (he gains power from knowing his past, acknowledging everything that happened, everything he is), and what does Julien do? He refuses. Because Julien likes to take the easy way out. It isn't until after his own death that Zane adopts his father's toxic mindset. He locks that memory away, pushes away his problems, refuses to talk about them. He willingly utilizes his ability to delete memories that he doesn't want, and over time he utilizes it often. "Oh, I massacred multiple species and became a dictator of an entire realm? Haha no I didn't." It's terrible, it's toxic and unhealthy, and it takes completely shutting off his emotions and then having a heartfelt conversation with an overly emotional teenage girl to realize that maybe his father had some bad ideas. Then of course there's Echo himself, which is where this analysis turns more to headcanon and speculation to fill in the gaps in canon, but stick with me here. When we meet Echo, he's perfectly cheerful and having a great time, just kinda vibing with Tai-D. It is my personal belief that this is because he, after breaking out of the basement only to discover that his father had left him, decided to flip his own memory switch and forget the pain of abandonment. Then, he later turned it back on (having forgotten why it was off in the first place) and suddenly remembered the devastation he'd experienced. This conveniently coincided with his discovery by the Sons of Garmadon, and he was primed and ready to seek out revenge against the brother who stole his father from him, instead of allowing himself to grieve that loss. We see time and time again that isolation and refusal to acknowledge grief is a dangerous combination. It breeds darkness in a person. The Ice Emperor and Mr E were the products of toxic mindsets passed down from Dr Julien to his sons. Aaaaanyway that's been [part 3], folks. Buh-bye or something ig.
Misunderstanding
Misako comes to talk to Garmadon who is in prison. (Before Lloyd in March of the Oni) Mostly angst.
@ch3rryfl0wr -Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the request, I really enjoyed writing it, and I hope you like it.
"Here we are, mrs.Garmadon." The police officer led Misako to a separate cell in Kryptarium Prison. "All the highest security measures have been taken."
"I see." Misako looked at various cameras that were recording them as they walked down the hallway.
"Here we are," the officer swallowed. "Cell number one. Are you sure you want to be alone, ma'am?"
"Of course," Misako replied, when she saw a concerned look on the officer's face, she smiled slightly.
"Don't worry, I have faith in you and your security measures." Saying that, she let the officer open the door.
"Good luck," he said and hurried away as fast as he could without embarrassing himself.
Misako smiled at that for a few moments before she remembered he had every reason to be afraid.
She took a deep breath and entered the cell.
The room was huge and in the middle was a small cell where Garmadon was located.
He didn't pay attention to her because he was silent. She pulled the handle as a pathway opened.
As she slowly approached the cell where Garmadon was, he looked at her skeptically.
"Garmadon," Misako sighed and said as she reached him.
"What do you want, Misako?" He replied in a cold tone with a hint of surprise.
"I would like to talk," Misako replied. She had so many emotions swirling inside her that she couldn't contain them.
"With whom?" Garmadon asked mockingly.
"I only see one person in the room besides me." Misako retorted angrily.
He had almost provoked her.
"Then you came for no reason," Garmadon said and turned back to his work.
"Garmadon," Misako repeated in a pleading tone and put her hands on the glass.
"What?" Garmadon yelled and turned around. "Leave me alone!"
"Just talk to me!" Misako shouted back at him.
"Why did you even come to talk?" Garmadon angrily asked. "We are on different sides again."
The word 'again' hurt her.
"Yes, but I believe..." Misako started, but Garmadon interrupted her.
"What do you believe, that I can change?" Garmadon asked. "I won't change."
Misako lost her patience. "I think you're not as bad as everyone thinks, that there's still something in you..."
"You're lying!" Garmadon got angry at her and punched the glass with his fists.
"I am not that man anymore. I am my own person. Leave me alone with that! What's done is done, the past! I am not a fool anymore."
When he finished, Misako turned a few steps behind him.
"Do you mean you're glad for everything you've done?" She asked with disbelief.
"I did everything to save Ninjago," Garmadon said.
"You're lying!" Misako approached again. "You almost destroyed it."
"You don't understand anything!" Garmadon yelled at her. "Just like you never understood anything."
Those words stung her so much that tears almost came to her eyes.
'Don't be angry with him,' she reminded herself. 'He is not the same person.'
"You're maybe not a fool anymore," her suppressed anger was stronger than her.
"But do you know who is? Me, because I believed in you and gave you chances all your life!"
"Are you saying that marrying me was a mistake?" Garmadon raised an eyebrow.
She didn't answer, just turned and walked away to hold back her tears.
When she reached the end, she couldn't resist turning around and looking at him.
Garmadon was looking in the other direction and was distracted by what he had read before.
She couldn't see that, but emotions were swirling inside him.
When she got home, she threw the closest thing she could grab as hard as she could against the wall before collapsing onto the bed.
Misako put her head in her hands and cried.
Sensei Garmadon and their life together kept flashing before her eyes. She kept reminding herself not to be angry at the good side of him, the man she knew and loved.
At the same time,Garmadon was looking in the direction she left.
He knew that the old him would never allow this to happen.
He also knew that now he felt emotions that would make him sad and broken. Instead of that, he felt a little bit of nostalgia and a feeling that he didn't even understand anymore.
Rewatching Crystalized after a long time- here are my thoughts.
The first third isn’t bad (season 1), honestly it’s still funny
Fugidove you weirdo (affectionate)
I still hate the mayor/the new ninja/ronin
Pythor you bitch (derogatory)
Nya my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Skylor my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Pixal my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Mechanic you motherfucker
HARUMI MY BELOVED CHILD YOUVE RETURNED TO ME
I hate how they changed the overlords voice, rebooted was the best version
I think the overlord intercepted harumi’s soul while it was on its way to the departed realm. Overlord can never truly die, so he’s stuck in an ethereal void. That’s why no one else was around
Harumi, my beloved scrimbly, your body was literally crushed and probably impaled by rebar and concrete
Oni temple still ugly as shit
“Fall of the monastery” is homophobic because my favorite girls got the shit kicked out of them and I’m gay so it’s homophobic
Also Pythor is misogynistic like bro Nya saved your ass from wohira
Also mechanic is misogynistic
Fantastic fights tho
MINI PIXES
I love the minipix 7 saved her mama first 🥹
We did not need the fakeout death for Nya
I love the samurai x mech and Nya’s Sam x outfit
I think they took off the overeffect on pixals voice in Darkness within - that just gave Crystalized extra bonus points in my book
Lloyd dangling sideways is so stupid but funny
Ok but like that wasn’t the last time you fought, technically that was the SECOND to last time shitlord, Zane killed you last time lmao
The coming 👀 of the king
But they didn’t lose??? They killed you???
Golden master was better tbh
Ah, the ugliest fortress in the entire series
Uglyass motherfucker
Harumi my scrimbly
Harumi really be like I hate you but maybe we could be friends but also no I despise you but maybe???
ACAB
Harumis such a brat- I love her so much
GARMADON RETURNS
Garmadon is the funniest motherfucker
The fact that they didn’t get to fully acknowledge Harumi and Garmadon is a missed opportunity
Christofern is an innocent victim
Mechanic motherfucker I want you to die
I forgot about Zane’s head trauma reverting him to the ice emperor. Such a missed opportunity
MISAKO MY BELOVED!!!!!
T*mmy fuck off
Pixal being a badass like usual. Queen!!!!
They put her effect back over her voice
JESUS CHRIST ZANE
ronin redeeming himself 🫡
Pythor you annoying bitch
SKYLOR YOU ARE A QUEEN I’d let you punch me any day
When skylor put her hand on Cole’s head, his scar was glowing
Skylor god I love you
Kai you got trauma we need to discuss
RACER 7 aka BLAZY H. SPEED!!!!!
I would burn everything for Pixal
Jennifer you say the word and I would kill for you
THE PIXANE SPIN
“You brought me back.”
Pixal has the coolest mechs because she deserves it
Garmadon sprint past, screeching, with a barrel is my favorite
“Uh oh? What does uh oh mean?” A callback to season 13 💙
“Pet plant” Lloyd that’s your brother have some respect
I’m gonna be honest- I forgot the overlord was the literal threat this season 😭😭😭
Why do the dragonites have tits????
I literally still can’t believe they have to “jump up kick back whip around and spin”
And the reveal was when the paper was “fold” ed you motherfuckers
Why did the coolest form of the overlord come TWO EPISODES AT THE END
Coles crew showed up
VANIA MY BELOVED SCRIMBLY
MINIPIX
MAYA EDNA BENTHO LOU (💔)
SALLY YOU QUEER QUEEN
Dragon form is literally so dope tho
I’m still not a fan of the “plot twist” with the overlord x devourer
Anyways KICK HIS ASS HARUMI GO BABY GIRL GO
Mechanic shut the fuck up honestly
OKINO
Cole mocking Vangelis is so fucking funny
It hurts to see Lou honesty knowing he’ll never speak again
ADAM
VANIA MY BELOVED
Is it me or is Kai really handsome in his dragon form
Cole and Vania’s hug 🥹
PIXANE SPIN 2.0
Oni Lloyd my beloved
ROTSM 2: Electric Boogaloo
I like to think that it is the ninjas spirits that protected Lloyd and defeated the overlord, not a golden power
Inner Steel is a good song shut up
Overall honestly not a bad season, has some hiccups and missed opportunities but not as bad as I think it’s judged
Help! I already have a new AU!
This was only gonna be an AU of THAT movie at first (once you know, you know) but because I have no control over my life, this also became a loose retelling of the first 2 seasons of Ninjago.
Years ago, Ninjago was devastated by an event known as the Calamity. An evil man only remembered as the Overlord led an army of all sorts of terrible monsters to plunge Ninjago into darkness and chaos.
In the end, Garmadon, the emperor of Ninjago along with Wu, his brother, can only seal the Overlord, sacrificing themselves in the process. But they didn't do this before revealing a prophecy. In the not-so-distant future, six figures with powers unlike any other will awaken when the time comes and they will be the ones to destroy the Overlord. Garmadon also leaves behind his wife Misako and their son Lloyd. But because Lloyd is still so young, Misako took on the responsibilities of ruling Ninjago so she isn't there for him as much as she wants to. Still, Ninjago is at peace again and the Calamity and prophecy are soon forgotten.
But nothing could ever bring back the countless lives lost during the Calamity, including Zane, the beloved son of the inventor Dr. Julien, one of the wealthiest people in Ninjago.
Fast-forward to now, an orphan with no memories only known as 'Snow' begins his journey to the past. Upon being led to Ninjago City by a falcon, he meets a bunch of new faces. Things happen and the whole gang go on an adventure to see Dr. Julien while Snow finds his memories and more about himself than he could've ever imagined...
tbh I've come up with this whole thing just because I want Zane to get super pissed at Kai and bitch slap him while wearing a dress. Is that too much to ask for?
NINJAGO TAROT DRAFT IVE HAD FOR 8 MONTHS imagine them as either just designs or with deeper meanings, i'm too tired to do a lot of analysis but i Am Right. prefacing this with YES i have character biases, and YES they are present here<3 its my blog ill post what i want (no i will not be tagging the characters i rag on i do not want to be bothered about them)
The Fool - lloyd. not that lloyd is a fool, but he is the blank slate, the character written to be of infinite opportunity. he can be reckless and innocent, naive and idealistic, gullible but free. even this late into the series his sense of self continues to change and evolve, never settling in a single place; the upright is young lloyd, our youthful and ignorant protagonist. the reverse is current lloyd, weighed down by the actions of not only his father, mother and uncle, but himself. his card should have 2 panels, one with babey lloyd and the other with older lloyd. maybe juggling his friends' elemental symbols, just for spice. spicy clownery.
The Magician - this is jay, hands down. i'm picking things/characters based on upright and reversed meanings, and while jay debuts as an determined and powerful character, he slips pretty quickly into the card's reverse meaning, often utilizing "manipulation, cunning, and deception" to get his way. most of the time it is subtle, as his manipulative tendencies have been slowly elaborated on over the course of the series. he can be summoning lightning or something with his card.
The High Priestess - skylor. again, the reverse is past skylor, during her brief betrayal, and the upright is present skylor, a wise ally and friend. i want her in her father's snake hat and in his chair. thank u
The Empress - misako, purely for the reverse meaning. i dont care about her so her card can be whatever
The Emperor - garmadon, same reason and also gotta match with the (ex) wifey! give my guy garm his 4 arms too pls
The Hierophant - kai. source: just trust me bro
The Lovers - pixal & zane, duh. they literally share zane's fighting skill after she receives half his heart in season 3, she and he are inseparable (re: essentially headmates) for the following 4 seasons, and are often depicted as the healthiest "het" couple in the show. they are DEVASTATED when they lose each other, their sense of balance. they're in love your honor damnit. HAVE THEM EMBRACE.
The Chariot - the bounty. mostly because it represents a home for the ninja for a good while in the show and is the only real space they can enact control and their wills on for a while. also because the significance of the bounty crashing in season 8 really encompasses the reverse meaning. just replace the chariot w the boat in the card.
Strength - cole. not just because of his super strength, but because he is the MOST compassionate and brave character in this entire goddamn show. say what you will but cole has been through death and back, dropped from a hundred story drop, lost his friends, his sensei, his best friend, AND had to resurrect his mother's legacy with his bare hands. this man has never once been shown to back down from a cause, take the coward's way out, or plain give up because he's the most tied to this ninja morality. when cole is disheartened, he takes it out on himself, gets mad at HIMSELF, never on other people like jay, kai, lloyd and even nya are prone to. give my boy a goddamn break. please let him chill w rocky in his card :) maybe give him his lava arms tho
The Hermit - WU DUH. meaning fits but also his card should have him drinking tea with a three-way split panel behind him showing off the places he found his students. good day
The Wheel of Fortune - cloud kingdom. cloud kingdom. damn those nerdy little bastards.
Justice - AKITA AKITA. karmic justice ring a bell, anyone? we can weigh her mask on the scale or something, just let her have her moment :)
The Hanged Man - yallre gonna hate me but this is actually zane. sacrifice is the NAME of the card. he keeps sacrificing himself, even when it ISNT needed. would love it if his card had him tied to the forbidden spinjitzu scroll, that would be pog
Death - morro. HA u thought you could escape him lol no. have him be bitchass. maybe show his ghost hanging around his skeleton or something. make it green
Temperance - ... ronin. i had some trouble with this, but i think this card captures him pretty well.
The Devil - Harumi. mostly because i already drew her a card, but also because of the reversed meaning.
The Tower - the great devourer. i think thats explanation enough.
The Star - ... benthomaar. am i jsut adding the jade ninja characters at this point? yes, yes i am. do they still fit? aboslutely. give my guy bentho a FUCKIN crown
The Moon - ECHO ECHO PLEASE. deception? illusions??? thats their bread and goddamn butter!!!! PUT THE LIGHTHOUSE AT NIGHT IN THEIR CARD, YOU COWARDS!!!
The Sun - vania. vania. vania. vania. will i elaborate? no!
Judgement - pixal, hands down. calm evaluation? being highly aware of yourself???? thats just pix, babey!!! and the reverse, FUCK, self doubt,,,, she rarely has those moments but!! when she DOES!!! AHHHHHH/POS
The World - NYA NYA NYA. NYA IN HER ELEMENTAL FORM HEAR ME OUT GUYS. in the upright meaning its her early season self, doing well on her own, achieving and succeeding and being fulfilled, and the reversed is her skybound to present self, stagnating as a character, no longer succeeding on her own or through her own means. the card also has to do with cycles, and considering how many times nya has died or been forced to change, well. who else would this card be???
