Dire Ruffington used to be a bad troublemaker in their town and Emily Desmond was always the person who'd put a stop to his shenanigans. The big bad wolf ended up falling for the woman and began to court her, which prompted Emily to also fall for him.

They come from a humble background, living in a small town where they herd and care for sheep.
