"PUT YOUR HEARTS IN THIS STORY, BECAUSE IN THIS STORY WE HAVE LOST OUR HEARTS": ITV and RAI FICTION tell the tragic story of Elisa Claps and Heather Barnett
The Elisa Claps‘s case is one of the darkest and most debated episodes of the Italian crime chronicle; a story tied by a blood-red thread to Britain and the fate of another young woman, Heather Barnett. Elisa Claps left home to go to Mass on a sunny Sunday morning in September 1993 in Potenza. From that moment on, no one would hear from her until her body was found 17 years later in the attic of…

just another wide-eyed girl, who's desperately in love with you
a/n: in my mind this is set post s1 ending, and pre the start of s2! any time elisa and tião are speaking in portuguese, it's italicized. at this point, elisa knows she has feelings for james, but she hasn't done anything about it. taglist: @myloveforhergoeson @raging-violets @ceruleanmusings @nolanhollogay @daughter-of-melpomene @bibaybe @shrinkthisviolet
“He’s cute,” Tião says in Portuguese, and Elisa rolls her eyes. “He is. He’s also out of my league.”
Her uncle shakes his head as they watch James, and the other BTR boys perform Famous. It’s their first big performance after Madison Square Garden, and admittedly, when James asked Elisa if she was going to come as his plus one, she had been flustered.
Jo was going as Kendall’s, and Camille was going as Logan’s. Was this a girlfriend thing to do, she had wondered?
But then James had said something about it being weird if he didn’t invite her because all the other girls would be there, and the little hope that she had had about him noticing her had been squashed. Squashed like a bullet ant.
“If anything, he’s out of your league.” Tião says with a shake of his head, and Elisa snorts. He’s never been a fan of the American boy, but he tolerates him. For the most part.
The crowd cheering brings Elisa’s attention back onto what she should be focusing on, and she smiles as she watches James dance. It’s clear, just watching him that he’s made for this. That performing is what he was born for.
They sing the last chorus and as the guitar and drums kick out, James looks over at her. Her heart skips a beat as his eyes meet hers. James’ grin is wider than ever, and Elisa gets on her feet, clapping as loud as she can.
As the show ends, she makes her way over to the boys offstage, smiling as Kendall and Jo kiss, and Logan hugs Camille. Her and Tião stand off to the side slightly awkwardly.
Carlos is the first to acknowledge them. “Did you have fun?” He asks, and Elisa nods. “You guys did great! Seriously, I’m so proud of you all.”
“Me especially right?” James asks, and Elisa looks at him, her cheeks heating up. Tião snorts, as Elisa nods, not saying anything else.
“Knew I could count on you Lis.” He grins at her as he wraps an arm around her and she shakes her head at him. Jo winks at the two of them, and Elisa looks at the ground.
Maybe coming as James’ plus one wasn’t so bad.

Golden pumpkins hunt
A short and little crappy story about our farmers and the madness during the maze on Spirits Eve.
Farmer OCs in this story: May (@poxy-domain), Zeke (@theambivalentagender), Rain (@silly-farmer), Wren (@girls4zelda), Bo (@boinurmom13), Miranda (@amishasp), Shiro (@shirokumav3), Myra (@seharuuchan), Marley (@mmarggsstuff), Willow (@vilochkaaa), Skylar (@justashamwithwastedpotential), Thad (@reallyghostlypost), Lucy (@doggoneaway), Bella (@ivquatro), Eris (@lavendel081), Elisa (@elisa6102), Hestia (@g0atmama), Fawn (@fawn-wickenshire), Josephine (@jazhand), Ziana (@nimillaarts) and Julian (my OC).
_________________________________________
"Aunt Marnie! I'm not little anymore, why can't I go into the maze...". Julian turned to Jaz, who had been begging her aunt for about ten minutes to let her enter the scary maze this year, but Marnie was still hesitant. No sooner had Julian greeted the two of them and congratulated them on Spirit's Eve than Bo pulled him back to the maze entrance.
"You'll see, dude, we're definitely going to win this Magnus puzzle! Especially since this year's prize is not one, but three whole golden pumpkins!", Bo enthusiastically tugged on his friend's sleeve, unable to contain his anticipation before the treasure hunt. "We'll divide the spoils, naturally: both get a pumpkin each, and the third... well, we'll figure something out!"
The two young men stopped near two artisanal arches.
"It's showtime, baby! Ok, I'll go left, and you go right then. Good luck, bro." With a Hollywood smile on his face, Bo clapped Julian on the shoulder, and disappeared into the semi-darkness of the maze.
The young man with multicolored eyes sighed a little tiredly: he wasn't opposed to the most exciting adventure to find the golden pumpkin, but before entering the maze, Julian wanted some snacks from the communal food table. The poor lad hadn't had time to eat before the feast, and the smell of spices made his stomach rumble and mind go crazy. But Julian decided he would help Bo win the contest first, because after all, three pumpkins was a very generous reward.
Without wasting any more precious time, Julian finally entered the maze. The tangled paths, the cold, penetrating wind, the dense dark vegetation on either side, the atmosphere and frightening scenery, the shrieks of familiar voices, the laughter and the rush - enthralled by the spirit of the feast, Julian even forgot about hunger for a while.
Continuing to walk further and further down the labyrinth, Julian didn't immediately realize how he found himself in a place separate from the main maze. There was a circle where Magnus Rasmodius himself was sitting cross-legged, and next to the wizard were Julian's friends and colleagues in farming - Eris and Bella were sitting on soft pouffes, holding cups with hot drinks in their hands, and Elisa was eating delicious white chocolate-covered strawberries. The treats were made with scary but still cute faces of all sorts of ghosts and monsters.
"Hey, Julian! Happy Spirit's Eve!", with her mouth slightly full, Elisa congratulated the young man. Bella and Eris also nodded to Julian sincerely happy meeting their friend.
"Greetings, young adept. Enjoying the festivities?", Magnus ducked one eye open, not taking a break from his meditation. Julian sensed a large concentration of magic in this place - apparently to maintain the summoned maze.
"Would you like to join us? We still have some strawberries and hot tea left." Bella moved a loose cushion closer and a plate of strawberries, which Elisa looked at very intently. Oh, how Julian wanted to stay here and have a snack!
But he made a promise to Bo...
"Thanks for the offer, but another time. I still want to win the competition."
"Good luck to you, then." Eris smiled sincerely at the young man, and happily took a sip of hot tea.
"Watch out, young fool. The treasure is guarded by fearsome monsters, it won't be easy to get it..." Magnus was pleased with his own cryptic and creepy speech, and hummed quietly, returning to his meditation. After saying goodbye to everyone, Julian rolled his eyes.
"Scary monsters, yeah... They're all fake for sure!" With that thought, the young man went back to searching for the right path to the treasure.
Walking past the plastic spiders (where Thad was able to hide and scare Julian enough to make the poor guy jump a little), he stopped near a huge cauldron where a green liquid of unknown origin was bubbling. Penny, Ziana, Shiro, and Myra stared at the bottom of the cauldron, mesmerized.
"Mr. Julian..." Ziana said in a slightly monotone somehow. "This cauldron... It smells so good, it makes my head spinning and dizzy." The other girls only nodded slowly to confirm her words.
The boiling water smelled like cotton candy, and Julian's hungry stomach twisted itself into a knot. Ugh, no, he need to move on! Overcoming the urge to stay near the cauldron, the young farmer returned to his original mission, intending to turn left.
"Nope, it's a dead end." Skylar walked out of the darkness a little tiredly with Sam. "Honey, maybe we can go back to the common table?"
"Oh, absolutely!" Sam was delighted, "Besides, the straw in my suit makes me itchy... like, everywhere."
Oh well, Julian thought, the search continues.
"Hmm, maybe I should turn into a dragon? Then I’ll definitely find the treasure..." Hestia stood thoughtfully near the fake tombstones.
"Don't cheat!", Julian said a little provocatively from behind, which slightly frightened the girl. Hestia herself was not in debt, and stuck her tongue out at Julian, disappearing into the darkness of the labyrinth. Giggling, the young man walked on.
Yoba, the labyrinth seemed endless to him, and his stomach is already begged for some food...
"You decided to take part in the treasure hunt too?" Julian didn't notice Rain standing in front of him. He nodded to her in agreement. "And you?" Julian asked.
"Eh, I'm just hanging out here. I like this creepy atmosphere, it gives me goosebumps." Rain smiled, pointing her hand at Fawn and Josephine standing nearby. "Besides, I decided to accompany my friends in case we accidentally stumble upon monsters." She patted the hilt of her sword that was strapped to her hip.
"Huh? But the monsters in the maze aren't real." Julian was surprised.
"How are you so sure?", having asked a rhetorical question, Rain said goodbye to her friend and returned to the girls, who were still looking at the house with chicken legs with delight and curiosity.
Her words made Julian's hand tighten his grip on the hilt of the dagger, which he had taken purely to decorate his suit... "Magnus wouldn't put people's lives in danger. Right?..." Now walking more carefully and listening to every sound, Julian I was able to go through half the maze already.
After about two minutes, the poor guy was scared again when Miranda's figure suddenly appeared from the bushes. The girl’s face was distorted with anger, and she confidently walked past Julian towards the exit, despite the thorny bushes.
"Today there will be one less stupid adventurer in the world," Marley said to Julian with a malicious smile when she saw his downcast face. "You’re on the right track, brother. The treasure is out there somewhere. I think"
"Aren't you going to look for pumpkins?", still in a slight shock, Julian asked hesitantly.
"And miss such a show?" Smiling even wider, Marley hurried after her friend. Julian prayed for the soul of that unfortunate adventurer who became the cause of Miranda's righteous anger. Deciding to find out about this story later, he headed in the direction from which both girls had emerged.
With every step he took, his hope of winning faded, and the thought of returning to other friends at a common table beckoned him more and more.
“Yep, I told you it was fake,” Zeke stopped looking at the plastic chest and just quietly snorted at Shane’s comment. "Oh, another competitor." Shane just smiled faintly, and Zeke waved to Julian in greeting. "Zek, maybe, to hell with these pumpkins? I’m already hungry." Oh, how hungry Julian is - you can’t imagine, Shane!
"Alright alright, let's go for the snacks. I hope there’s some honey bun left in there!' Taking Shane by the hand, Zeke led him towards the exit.
Mmmm, honey buns... Julian can already feel the sweetness melting in his mouth and...
"Oh man, there you are!" Poor Julian might have a heart attack at this rate, and he's too young to die! Ah, it's just Bo.
"We are already close, I can already feel the taste of victory!" Taking Julian again by the sleeve of his leather jacket, the two farmers headed along the only road that would definitely lead them to the desired chest.
"So, now we have to go here and-" Bo didn’t have time to finish when suddenly, before his and Julian’s eyes, the figure of their mutual friend, Wren, appeared.
"Agh, damn, I knew I should have teleport a little further!" Stomping her foot angrily, the red-haired girl, however, immediately turned pale when she saw Julian and Bo, and giggled slightly nervously.
"What the tutty frutty fuck is going on here?" Confused, Bo blinked a couple of times and immediately answered his own question: "Cheater!"
Wren only smiled even stronger and ran away in the opposite direction from the treasure.
"Hey, come back!" Bo rushed off after the girl, leaving Julian alone. Alright.
It became darker and darker, the cold autumn wind did not spare anyone who was now outside, and the stomach began to growl again. So having decided to finally reach the end, the young man already prayed that this would be the end of the hunt for golden pumpkins. He's so tired and so, oh so hungry...
And it seems that this time - finally - Yoba heard the prayers of one of the chaotic farmers in the Stardew Valley.
A large, decorated wooden chest - after so many puzzles and endless dead ends - Julian finally found the treasure. He had already stretched out his hands to touch the lid of the chest and rightfully take the prize, when a human figure again appeared out of nowhere in front of him.
But this time it was May.
The girl smiled to the fact that she had teleported directly to the target, but her smile immediately faded when she realized that she had been caught. Oopsie....
The two farmers looked into each other's eyes for half a minute, not daring to do anything.
"Apple cinnamon pie in exchange for your silence," May finally decided to interrupt this staring contest. Julian's eyes widened.
"Deal", Oh boy, you didn't need to say twice. After shaking her hand and receiving from his friend a plate with a still warm pie (where she even get this pie?), May took her prize from the chest and disappear once again.
With the satisfied smile of the happiest man in the entire Valley, Julian began to leave the maze, still holding the plate of pie in his hands.
"Well, did you get your prize?" Willow laughed good-naturedly, standing with Lucy near the exit from the maze. Julian just nods, and Lucy noted to herself how little a person needs to be happy.

When: Sunday 10th September 2023 Where: Wailing Waters Beach Who: @songsofelisa
Lee had, without a doubt, been waiting for this day all summer. He'd been bugging Elisa about it, every now and again, when he'd be able to go meet her pet shark, and the day had finally come. Standing at the shore in his swims shorts, waves lapping at his knees, he clapped his hands together. "Alright," he turned rom looking out over the ocean to looking at Elisa expectantly. "We ready?"

P L E A S E
Reunion
S2 | Lucas/MC | 3400+ words | @ellegreenwxy
It's one week since Season Two ended and Lucas and Laurel were crowned the winners, but how is everyone holding up now that they're out?
“How are you feeling?” Lucas asked, leaning down to press a soft kiss to her cheek. The woman that had been touching up her makeup gave him a dirty look before lightly brushing over the spot once more, making sure Laurel’s skin looked perfect. Once she was satisfied, she left the two alone and Laurel turned in her seat to get a better look at her boyfriend.
“Just ready to get it out of the way,” she said, reaching out to smooth out the navy fabric of his suit jacket. He had on a basic white button-up beneath it, the majority of the top buttons undone to give the audience at home a glimpse at his chiseled chest. She’d gone with a white, sleeveless, bodycon dress to compliment his suit, the soft fabric hugging her curves and bringing out the warmth of her tanned skin.
The winners of Love Island looked pretty damn good, if she had to say so herself.
“It’s going to be interesting to see everyone,” Lucas mused, and Laurel nodded even though “interesting” didn’t even begin to cover it. Especially now that they’d watched the show all the way through, she had to imagine today would be awfully tense. Everyone was there with an agenda, Laurel herself included.
One of the PAs passed by their room, rapping her knuckles on the open door. “Time to head to the stage,” she told them, and Laurel gave Lucas a look before she got up and took his outstretched hand, walking with him behind the production assistant as she led them through the set.
As soon as they got to the stairs that led up to the stage, their host announced them as the winners of this year’s Love Island. Laurel could hear the live studio audience clapping and cheering and she gave Lucas’s hand a quick squeeze before the two made their way out onto the stage. Everyone was already out there, sitting with the person they’d been coupled up with when they left the Villa or with another single if they hadn’t been in a couple when they’d been dumped. Some of the couples were sitting as if they had a wall erected between them. Very interesting…
“How are you both doing tonight?” their host asked after they’d settled into their seats, and Laurel nodded.
“We’re doing really well, yeah,” she said, unable to help but smile as Lucas took her hand and held it firmly in his own.
“I’m glad to hear it. You both look very happy,” the host said, and Laurel shared a soft smile with Lucas before allowing her gaze to roam around the stage.
Ibrahim and Jo were seated close together, his arm tossed around her shoulders, holding her close––no surprise there. Lottie and Gary looked less loved up, a little bit of distance separating the two of them, same as Marisol and Graham. Bobby caught her eye from where he was sat next to Hannah and he grinned, the sight of his cheeky smile enough to nearly have her burst into laughter. Henrik and Chelsea were next to them, looking more friendly than anything. And then there was Hope and Noah who were as far on opposite ends of their couch as they could be.
They weren’t the only ones sitting next to one another––she saw Blake, Elisa, and a handful of other people she hardly recognized aside from their brief Casa Amor appearances––and her heart felt like it was going to leap right out of her chest. God, tonight was going to be something, wasn’t it?
“Well, let’s jump right into it then. From Casa Amor to sneaky kisses and girl code violations, this season of Love Island was the most watched yet with plenty of drama to go around. And tonight, our Islanders have returned to hash it all out onstage for you all.”
Even from out of the corner of her eye, Laurel could see Lottie tense up. The hate on social media had been a lot for all of them––Hope especially––but Lottie had gotten some of the worst of it for how she’d acted. Laurel wouldn’t say she deserved it, by any means, but it wasn’t like Lottie had been some innocent who just got targeted for no apparent reason. She shouldn’t have gotten bullied for it, but she also shouldn’t necessarily have been off the hook for it either.
They all looked to the screens that were set up onstage, watching a brief montage of some of the most dramatic moments of the season. Laurel found herself gripping Lucas’s hand at certain moments, especially when he decided to switch to Blake at the stick or twist recoupling. It had hurt the first time they’d watched it together, and the sting had hardly lessened since, no matter how many times he’d explained his reasons behind doing it to her.
Nothing was off limits, every moment displayed for the entire group to see. Judging by the looks on some of their faces, it seemed that some of the former Islanders hadn’t watched the show after their time in the Villa had ended. Laurel was so grateful that she had taken the time to watch the show, though it certainly hadn’t been easy. Something about seeing your most vulnerable moments played out, knowing that they’d been made visible to the rest of the world, was…complicated, to say the very least.
The screen went black and the lights brightened on the stage, showcasing a variety of expressions though Laurel didn’t even have time to catalog them all in her mind before the host began speaking. “One of the most memorable moments of the season that we just saw was, of course, when our Love Island winners ran into trouble after Laurel came back from Casa Amor single. Lucas: Why did you decide to couple up with Blake?”
His hand flexed briefly around Laurel’s, something reassuring in the gesture, before he spoke. It was something they’d talked about already, so listening to him discuss it didn’t give her as much anxiety as it would have had she gone into it blind.
“I didn’t know if Laurel was going to come back with someone or not,” he admitted. “We hadn’t been together long, we were still getting to know each other and then she went to Casa Amor. If she did come back with someone, I didn’t know if I’d be going home because of it. Blake was pretty convincing; she told me that I couldn’t rely on Laurel since we hadn’t been together for very long and I believed her. And then when Laurel came back single, and I realized that I’d screwed up, I guess I felt like I had to at least see things through with Blake. It was only fair.”
“I think trying to put the blame on me is pretty shady, Lucas. You made the decision to switch to me, I didn’t make you do that,” Blake said, something glinting in her dark eyes as she tossed her hair over her shoulder. “At least own up to it.”
“So, you didn’t try to graft him? He just walked up to the firepit and picked you out of nowhere? I’m not buying that, Blake,” Laurel said, her eyes narrowing slightly.
“Oh, I grafted him. But he didn’t have to pick me. All I did was tell him the truth, and the truth was that there was no reason for him to trust you when you’d been coupled up for like, a week,” Blake argued back, and it was like Laurel could feel the tension settle in the room around them like a storm cloud.
“But clearly that wasn’t the truth because I came back single and I was loyal the entire time I was in Casa Amor. To me, it sounds like you lied to him to secure a spot in the Villa. And actually, while we’re at it, you came at me literally the moment we met. What was it you said? Something about how you don’t have to try as hard as I do?”
“And I don’t. You tried so hard all summer long to be liked by everyone––”
“And I won,” Laurel cut her off. “And you got sent home so, clearly, trying hard worked out for me,” she added, settling back into the sofa.
She caught Hope’s eyes from where she was sitting on the sofa across the stage from her own, her Villa Bestie giving her a wink as the audience oohed around Laurel, her dig clearly having struck a chord. She felt a hand gently clasp around her shoulder and she glanced behind her to see Priya looking proudly at her, her other friend giving her a reassuring smile.
“That wasn’t the only fight we’ve seen this season,” their host said, drawing the attention away from the girls as the audience quieted down. “We had our viewers at home vote for their favorite fight of the season: Lottie versus Priya; Jo versus Shannon; Priya versus Hope; Hope versus Noah. Let’s take a look.”
Their attention was directed to a screen once more, watching as the four fights that had been voted on played out for them to rewatch (or in the case of some of her fellow Islanders, to watch for the first time). Laurel found herself endlessly grateful that she hadn’t been involved in too many scuffles, able to make it through the season relatively unscathed. She’d been through plenty else, but at least she’d avoided being a direct part of the fights that had sent the people at home watching the show into an absolute spiral.
“You all voted and the fight that you decided was your favorite of the season was…Lottie versus Priya!” Their host looked over at Priya, the brunette sitting just behind Laurel with Shannon at her side. “Now Priya, you caught a lot of flack from Lottie when you first entered the Villa. I know you two made up with the help of Laurel but how do you feel about it all now after having watched it?”
Laurel fought the urge to visibly grimace. Priya had left the Villa on relatively good terms with Lottie. But after seeing everything the Aussie had said about her in the beach hut, Priya had changed her tune to say the very least. Honestly, Laurel didn’t blame her, especially after she’d watched the show, as well. If they’d thought Lottie had been bad in the Villa, she’d been relentless in her on-camera interviews.
“It was hard to watch. I just didn’t get why she was coming at me so hard when I was doing what she would have done in my situation. I was a bombshell and I did what every bombshell has to do. And I think the fact that the person whose partner I stole became my best friend in the Villa says a lot,” Priya explained, and Laurel couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride for her friend. Priya had grown a lot since her time in the Villa; she’d been fierce before but now she really knew who she was and Laurel thought that was a really beautiful thing.
“Lottie? Anything to add?”
“I mean…” Lottie sighed, looking somewhat conflicted about what she wanted to say next. Laurel wondered if it was because she was trying to think of what would cause the least amount of backlash. “I was just looking out for the girls who were already there. And it’s not as if my worries were completely unfounded. I mean, hello, Operation Nope? Do I regret some of the things I said? Of course I do. But I also don’t think I was completely in the wrong, and I don’t think I would have done the same as Priya did.”
“But you did,” Priya said, and Laurel could feel the energy in the room shift, everyone in the audience leaning forward eagerly in their seats. “You came for me, whatever. You said some mean things about me, whatever. The thing that hurt the worst, though, was that you came at me that hard after what you did to Hannah. You talked a big game about sticking together but as soon as Hannah was gone, you didn’t even have the decency to not pursue the guy she’d been coupled up with.
“Honestly, I’m kind of over the whole thing at this point. You can say you regret it all you want but I really don’t think you’re as sorry as everyone––myself included––thought you were. And that’s really all I have left to say on it,” Priya said, and Laurel was happy to see Lottie at least had the presence of mind to look somewhat embarrassed at being reminded of how she acted.
“Speaking of that kiss, you all voted for your muggiest moment: the secret Lottie and Gary kiss after Hannah’s elimination; Lucas switching to Blake after Casa Amor; Noah dodging Priya’s kiss during Operation Nope; and the highly argued Jo and Ibrahim kiss,” their host began. “And you all decided that the muggiest moment was, in fact, the Lottie and Gary kiss. Gary, what was going through your head when that happened?”
The blond shifted, seemingly uncomfortable to have the attention on him. “Well. I uh…I don’t know. Hannah knew I didn’t really like her, and so I didn’t feel like I owed anything to her, you know? The kiss with Lottie wasn’t planned––it definitely didn’t just happen––but she was upset and I was trying and failing to make her feel better and we kissed. She wanted to keep it under wraps because of Hannah and I was trying to work out where my head was for certain people so…yeah.”
“Hannah? Any thoughts?”
“Well, I agree that Gary didn’t owe anything to me. I was trying to have that fairytale romance with the first guy I met, not really caring if that guy was actually right for me. It hurt more to see Lottie act one way to everyone else and then act differently behind closed doors, but I’m glad we made up when I got back into the Villa. I don’t hold a grudge against her,” Hannah said, and Laurel watched as Bobby put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently. Maybe they weren’t the next greatest love story, but she was at least glad that Hannah had someone like him as a friend.
“This season, we thought we were in for a fairytale romance, but some of the other Islanders were a little bit skeptical. Bobby and Priya instigated ‘Operation Nope,’ which they decided was a way to test if Hope and Noah were the real deal. A lot of people thought it was shady and a little manipulative. Bobby, why did you decide to do it?”
Laurel had known that Operation Nope would come up at some point. She’d avoided getting involved in it when she’d been in the Villa, choosing rather to let Hope know what was going on despite Bobby’s pleas not to tell anyone. As much as she loved Bobby as a friend, she hadn’t loved the plan to try and test her friend’s couple.
“Hope and Noah were the only couple that had stuck together since that first day. And then that tweet came out about her playing him and Noah and I were friends so…I guess I wanted to make sure that Hope wasn’t actually playing him. And I knew Priya liked him and I thought she deserved a chance. I went about it in the worst way possible, I know that now. I should have been more upfront with Noah about what I thought and I shouldn’t have tried to interfere,” Bobby explained. “I’d say that ON is probably my biggest regret this season.”
“After watching the show, I feel bad for how I treated Priya because yes, she made a pass at Noah under my nose, but I definitely blamed her for it, not really realizing how involved Bobby was,” Hope said, straightening a little where she sat across from Laurel on the stage. “He’d always encouraged keeping the Villa peaceful and trying to keep everyone calm and collected, so it was kind of a slap in the face to see him orchestrating it behind the scenes like that. And then telling Laurel, one of my closest friends in the Villa, and trying to get her involved…it was really shady, and I honestly didn’t expect that from him.”
“Noah? Bobby said that he was worried about you, what were your thoughts?” their host asked, and Laurel watched him sigh, gaze flickering to his hands as he seemingly tried to work through what he wanted to say.
“Bobby and I are friends, and watching that––like Hope said––really was a slap to the face. But I understand why he did it and he knows that he went about it the wrong way so I guess I don’t see any point in harping on it,” he finally said, shrugging lightly.
“Speaking of, Operation Nope was included in our vote for most memorable moment, alongside Blakegate, Judge Bobby, and Priya’s breakfast pie. I think no one’s surprised to hear that you all voted Judge Bobby as this season’s most memorable moment!”
The tension in the room dissipated as they played a video of Bobby in his makeshift judge’s robes, everyone relaxing a bit, the drama momentarily forgotten. Lucas slid his hand into Laurel’s and she found herself able to relax a little for the first time that night. But, of course, it couldn’t last for very long. Not when they had a host hellbent on bringing up every uncomfortable moment of the season.
“One thing that surprised viewers was Henrik and Hannah’s joint return. What came as even more of a shock was Henrik’s continued attempts at grafting Laurel while she was coupled up with Lucas. Lucas, what did you think about seeing your best friend in the Villa pursue Laurel like that?”
“I mean, it was uncomfortable to watch, first and foremost,” Lucas said, shifting so he could toss an arm around her bare shoulders. “Laurel had been pretty clear that she wasn’t interested and it bothered me that he kept trying to press the issue. It also…I don’t want to say that it hurt, because the nature of the Villa is to graft, but I wished that he would have talked to me and told me he was interested in her instead of going behind my back. Henrik and I are friends, but being sneaky like that…it’s not something that I’m a fan of. And he knows that.”
“Henrik? Was there a reason you decided to hide it from Lucas? You’re a pretty open person; why did you decide to go behind his back?”
“In my head, it made more sense. I wanted to test the waters with Laurel to see if there was even something there before I went to him and tried to throw a wrench in everything. Of course now, I realize that wasn’t okay, especially with how I kept pursuing Laurel. I really wish I had handled it better,” Henrik explained, and Laurel watched Chelsea give his hand a supportive squeeze.
“And for you, Laurel, what was going through your head during all of this?”
Laurel forced herself to take a deep breath before she spoke. “Honestly? I wasn’t thinking about anyone or anything except for Lucas. It was always going to be him, at the end of the day. There was absolutely no way that I was going to just abandon him for someone I hardly knew. Yeah, Henrik’s nice but there was no question in my mind that I would be leaving that Villa––winner or not––with Lucas at my side.”
Lucas pulled her closer, pressing a kiss to her temple. She closed her eyes for a moment, relishing in the feel of his lips against her skin. She thought of how they’d go home tonight and probably order takeaway from one of their favorite places, enjoy a glass or two of wine while they unpacked the day’s events, then fall into bed together the way they did almost every night. Because, at the end of the day, at least they had each other.
And that was all that she needed.
