These were the only pieces I managed to belt out that year for my Hawketober prompts, but I enjoyed these pieces nonetheless.

Elias Hawke is a two-handed swordsman, templar training. Aaaaaand he smooches Anders. It's all very dramatic, yes.

Elias has had some design changes since then, but I still can appreciate how these all turned out.

Oooh, I can be depressing on this one.

Elias doesn't remember much of anything from his early life, least of all anything from before being put on the galley.

Instead, the closest thing he has for parental figures are Isabella and Seer Ayla, who taught him magic whenever the ship was on land or Isabella felt that keeping him on the ship was too dangerous for a particular job.

However, none of them really agree on what their relationship to each other is. Isabella views Elias more as a little sibling or protege. He was a kid who was willing to do anything for his freedom, and she recognized it and tried to keep him from doing anything stupid, while her own mommy issues caused further issues with her not being entirely sure what to do with a 16 year old traumatized ex-slave. That he inherited some of her issues made this way worse (Ie. Commitment).

For Seer Ayla, he was a pupil. He had to be. By the time they met, the Annulment of Dairsmund was a fresh memory and she had seen many of her previous apprentices die. That he was impatient and stubborn didn't help. She was also the first person Elias told about being trans, and helped him through a bit of his transition. While he couldn't be a Seer, she continued training him until she felt he could protect himself decently.

From Elias, he's not sure how he views Isabella. The fact he doesn't want to admit how important she is to him, and how Isabella isn't good at telling people she cares, makes it even more confusing.

Seer Ayla tends to pop up as the voice in the back of his head telling him he's about to do something stupid. He also hasn't talked to her in years, due to an argument where she told him that if he continued down the path he was on, he'd run into his own death. Her opinion is one of the few that really matter to him.

Overall, they care about each other. Just good luck getting any of them to admit it.

As for LIs, Isabella's first reaction to finding out her protege got himself involved with the Crows is worry. Mostly because she remembers Zevran and how the Crows reacted to his love life. Her second is to groan about how "It's always the fucking broody ones, isn't it Varric?". She relaxes when she sees how Lucanis acts around him, and is glad that Elias found someone good for himself. Then she makes a joke about stealing from the Dellamorte estate.

Ayla is much more happy about it overall (and not only because she can hear Spite and therefore knows exactly how Lucanis feels) but also because she thinks they'll be good at balancing each other out. And how it's a good sign that he's not running from Another good relationship.
