#OldFashionedSpringValleyFarmsHomestyleCanningElderberryJelly #ElderberryJelly #JellyReview
I tried the Old Fashioned Spring Valley Farms Home style Canning Elderberry Jelly and it was really good. This jelly tasted like a less sweet grape juice and it was sweet but not overly sweet. I tried the jelly on the Kroger brown and serve rolls.
I would eat this again. I might buy all the flavors I can find and review them.
Got at a Outlet Market.

I realised I hadn't posted a greenhouse report since spring, and today seemed like a good day for a 2023 home-grown food review!
2023 was a great year for fruit; my apple & plum trees were so generous! In the greenhouse my most successful crops were tomatoes, red chilli peppers, beans, and pickles. I was able to make spicy plum chutney using my own plums, onions and peppers:
On the other hand I was unlucky with my non-greenhouse vegetables, there were so many insects this year and my courgettes got absolutely decimated. But then I complained about my bad courgette luck to some neighbours and was gifted 9 courgettes and 3 pumpkins. I spent the first half of my autumn cooking and freezing and pickling and preserving to try not to let anything go to waste; I made:
7 jars of pesto (with greenhouse basil); 8 jars of pasta sauce (with courgette-pumpkin-tomato-red peppers-onions-basil, + parmesan); an unknown but large amount of pumpkin-tomato soup (I put them in empty glass bottles and freeze them); 7 jars of spicy plum chutney; 2 small bottles of spicy oil for my pizzas (with some of my chilli peppers; the rest are still drying by the stove to become chilli powder); 5 jars of plum jam and 3 of blackberry jam (I also froze several kg of whole blackberries for winter desserts); 6 jars of pickles (they are delicious!! I'd never pickled pickles before this year, I'm really happy with the result); 12 small bottles of elderberry syrup; 4 large bottles of elderflower syrup; hundreds of little apple sweets; several bottles of apple juice; an absolutely dizzying amount of apple puree / compote / jelly, because I refused to leave any leftover apples for the dormouse population. They are not my friends.
(If you think I'm being too mean to the dormice, please know that a) they are unrepentant thieves; b) I became so competent at hiding my apples that a dormouse ended up sneaking into the shower at night to eat my soap. My bar of homemade (not by me) goat milk soap. It's hazelnut scented so I guess if you're a rodent it just smells like lunch.)
I took some stuff out of the freezer just long enough to take this family picture; though I already gave away a lot of things to guests and neighbours, so it's just what's left! (I also froze enough chopped onions to last until summer I think)
I am terrible at labelling my jars; in my hubris I always assume I'll just remember where I put which kind of sauce or flavour of compote. I never remember. I end up having to give my guests mystery jars, like "this is fruit jelly! Made with... fruits"
So it wouldn't get too monotonous I added various fruits to my apple purees: apple-raspberry, apple-blueberry, -plum, -blackberry... I also made a few jars of apple-pineapple-pumpkin compote because I had too much pumpkin and I regret not focusing on that from the start, this combo tasted so good and was the most cheerful yellow colour.
I finally used my last apples last week, making apple-quince paste which is currently drying in order to become sweets. I bought some pretty & thick paper to origami a few boxes to put them in, so I'll have New Year presents for my courgette-providing neighbours. <3
(My cats are currently banned from this room so they won't try to lick the fruit paste) (they don't even like it, they're just cats)

Occult Recipebook
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble.
INTRO
Occult gameplay is up there with one of my favourite ways to play. Food is a part of our Sims lives, and should also be for occults so that they can cook up their preferred foods.
This Occult Recipebook is a collection of custom recipes (food and drink) for Occult Sims in the Sims 4.
I have started off this occult culinary journey with: ✨SPELLCASTERS✨
I have plans to later create foods for each occult life state, so I will keep adding to the recipe book.
“Spellcasters” as a life state can be played in so many different ways: they can range from gnarly evil witches who practice black magic and eat bird entrails, to happy little fairies who live in cottages surrounded by woods and flowers! I have tried to include a little bit of everything in the recipes I have created. These foods are a mix of fairy, fantasy, green garden witch, apothecary, or black-magic sorcerer etc.
They effect Spellcasters and/or human Sims in many weird and wonderful ways.
E.g. Nettle Tea which helps teenagers suffering with acne, Milk Thistle Biscuits which leave the consumer with prickly thistles in their tongue, and Eye of Newt Soup which most Sims will find disgusting but which Spellcasters will happily slurp up.
RECIPES
39 new recipes for your Spellcasters!
~ Realm of Magic is required for these recipes ~
**there's a fair amount of pack-integration, and be sure to read the pack recommendations on the Patreon post for each recipe** to make sure nothing is missing or glitching.

The New Yogurt Council
With so many people living in the republic, it takes a village to fulfill the needs of every citizen. Luckily, the council is more than well equipped to handle anything that comes their way! Handpicked by Blueberry Milk Cookie himself, these elite seven help keep the republic going with their unique talents and skills.
~~~~~
Panna Cotta Cookie, Head of Agriculture (She/Her)
DOB: June 29th Likes: Berries, Silent Films, Streams Dislikes: Black, Vandalism, Herring Jellies Symbol: Cornucopia
Panna Cotta Cookie grew up in the countryside, and is no stranger to hard work and discipline. With her knowledge and her skills as a "crop whisperer", House Panna Cotta became well known for it's bountiful harvests. It's no wonder she was requested by the new republic!
Fun Fact: Panna Cotta Cookie keeps a wine cellar under one of her production factories. Allegedly it's to keep it away from a certain cookie in her life...
~~~
Meringata Cookie, Head of Finances and Businesses (He/Him)
DOB: February 5th Likes: Designer Brands, Competitions Dislikes: Off Brand Items, Disorganization, Losing Symbol: Coin
Fashionable, timely, and incredibly picky, Meringata Cookie has gained quite the notoriety for his outfits and airy personality. But don't let yourself be fooled! This cookie is ruthless when it comes to his goals, and will do anything to stay on top of the business empire he baked.
Fun Fact: He has named each one of the suits he wears. His current outfit is named Orange Liquor.
~~~
Pistachio Gelato Cookie, Head of Magic (She/They)
DOB: March 17th Likes: Birds, Grape Flavored Jellies, Ice Cream, Snakes Dislikes: Raisins, Potions, Blueberry Milk Cookie Symbol: Four-pointed Star
What would you do if you had the weight of the world on your shoulders? As a prodigy in dessert magic and the youngest council member, she's been living in the shadow of Blueberry Milk for as long as they've held a flask. They've been pressured to go above and beyond in order to reach expectations she never asked for. And now, they've been taken in to work alongside him. Can she keep up with the council or will they fall to the wayside?
Fun Fact: Before their affinity for dessert magic was discovered, Pistachio Gelato Cookie had an interest in Zoology.
~~~
Buttermilk Cookie, Head of Health & Wellness (She/Her)
DOB: November 12th Likes: Candlelight, Licorice Tea, Rose Bushes Dislikes: Knives, Crowded Spaces, Dogs Symbol: Caduceus
As one of the few cookies that left Parfaedia for New Yogurt City, Buttermilk Cookie had been hoping for a break from her hectic life healing in House Butter. Unfortunately for her, she found herself being the one healer in NYC. Luckily more nurses migrated to the developing city, and she ended up taking them under her wing as the head nurse. With this much experience under her belt, it was a no brainer she ended up as the face of health for the republic.
Fun Fact: As the eldest member of the council, Buttermilk Cookie has taken the time to memorize each council member's specific routines.
~~~
Elderberry Creme Cookie, Head of Justice (He/Him)
DOB: August 8th Likes: Coffee, Coffee Flavored Things, Gardens Dislikes: Snakes, Tardiness, Spicy Things Symbol: Scale
Order in the court! This cookie is the republic's rising star when it comes to maintaining law and order. Elderberry Creme Cookie is a prosecutor that worked closely with MEH(Magical Emergency Handling Department) on special cases involving rogue wizards. With a 95% success rate, he was promoted several times before being offered a spot in the new council. Now he helps keep the peace as the symbol of justice for the republic.
Fun Fact: Elderberry Cookie allegedly has a twin brother he switches places with when he's too swamped with work.
~~~
Tartufo Cookie, Head of Technology (She/Her)
DOB: December 16th Likes: Chocolate, Craft Sets, Meat Jellies Dislikes: Silence, Boredom, Wild Animals Symbol: Wrench
As the newest addition of the council, Tartufo Cookie is ready to catch Parfaedia up to speed with the latest technology! Before coming to the republic, Tartufo Cookie lived in Crispia as an inventor. She often sold her wares at flea markets and fairs before meeting Blueberry Milk during one of his expeditions. Thoroughly impressed with her work, he invited her to Wholegrania to assist with a few pet projects, and made her the head of technology. Now armed with power and resources she had never seen, Tartufo Cookie is more than ready to show just what she's made of.
Fun Fact: Out of all the council members, she's the only one who is incapable of performing any magic.
~~~
Gooseberry Cookie, Head of the Arts (He/They)
DOB: October 29th Likes: Tragedies, Marble Statues, Grape Vines Dislikes: Boats, Removing their Mask, Romance Plots Symbol: Drama Mask
The most enigmatic of the council members, Gooseberry Cookie is just as hard to crack as they are to read; while they have an energetic flare to them, it's hard to read his emotions due to the mask they always wear. Asides from Blueberry Milk himself, Gooseberry is seen mingling with citizens the most and is one of the more popular members because of it.
Fun Fact: Gooseberry Cookie is the only cookie that knows about Blueberry Milk's alter ego.
After mentioning that I had an idea for a Jilypad fic the plunny would not leave me alone. For now this is just a cheeky short bit. a micro-oops if you will, but in the future this might blossom into something more.
There is a farmer’s market in Godric’s Hollow that Lily loves to visit. It was her Saturday morning ritual. Some time to herself while her husband took care of the kids. Entertaining them with games of chase and the toy brooms that still make her nervous.
Something she did her best not to think about while she browsed the seasonal selection of vegetables. Chatting to the lady running a stand with jams and jellies, leaving with a jar of gooseberry jam and a host of new advice on how to handle the abundance of cherries that grew in the backyard.
Her next stop was the old vicar who sold honey, something she was running low on running a household of incurable sweet teeth. Ending up having a sneaky cup of mead while they talked about the charity auction her husband was helping out with.
Leaving the stall a little more giddy than she had come, two bottles of homemade honey wine slipped into her basket. Something to enjoy when the little ones were down. As long as she promised to not have another accident.
She considered three to be more than enough, and none of them had been planned. But she had learned that life was what happened in between the plans. So, it was only fitting that is how her family came to be.
It was when she was mulling over the elderberry cordial that it caught her eye. A flash from the past sent the glass bottle tumbling down to the ground, splashing her sandalled feet with the sticky substance.
“I’m so sorry,” the redhead gasped, suddenly breathless. Stooping down to help gather the shards of glass. Delicate fingers reaching out of the thick bottom piece.
There was a sharp pain, making her wince. Her eyes focussed on the crimson drop mixing into the golden liquid. Feeling hands grabbing her shoulders while she reeled backwards.
“It’s all good. I will take care of it.” The voice sounded far away, even though she could feel the presence of right beside her.
Squeezing her eyes closed, Lily pulled herself back together as much as she could. “Goodness me, I am a little out of sorts,” she excused. Her eyes roamed the market square, trying to confirm that her eyes were playing tricks on her.
Yet, there, just down the main street, stood a man whom she would recognize anywhere. From the windswept mess of hair and the glasses to the boots. She could almost smell the cologne, the memory of his voice rushing into her head. Something she had thought she’d long forgotten.
“Go home, Lily.” The vicar had joined them, his firm hand on the small of her back. Steering her away from the apparition across the street. “Do you want me to walk you home?”
Shaking her head vigorously, Lily adjusted the basket on her arm before marching off. Feet carrying her faster and faster, craving the safety of home. Of somewhere she could break down in the safety of her husband’s arms.
Keeping up a brisk pace, she made her way to their cottage, hearing the laughter of her children rising from the backyard. The redhead hurried down the garden path, through the front door.
The moment her basket was securely on the side table, she whipped around. Doing something she had not done in forever. She locked and bolted the front door. Fingers trembling on the twist lock.
It was then that her head leaned against the cool wood, and the tears came.
Light-headed, Lily slowly slid down to her knees. Shoulders shaking quietly. In the distance, she heard their house phone ring. The concern in her husband’s voice was audible, even in her state.
“I’ll be sure to do that. Thank you, Martin.” Great, it seemed that her state had already become the talk of their little village. The local doctor already checking in on her.
What would they think of her? Did they also see him? Would they remember? It had nearly been a decade since he vanished, after all.
A pair of firm hands wrap around her, pulling her into a bone-crushing embrace that is every bit as firm as she needs it to be.
“I got you, Lils.” His voice is soft and reassuring. His breath fanning over her neck. The slight sensation gave her something to hold on to. Find her way back to herself enough to grab onto his arm.
Pulling in a shaky breath, Lily moved his arm away from her. Turning around to find grey eyes clouded with worry.
Trembling fingers cradling his face as she leaned her forehead against his. “I saw him.” Her voice not rising above a choked whisper. Seeing the disbelief on his face.
“It was him, I am sure of it.” Watching the gears turning, shock settled over him as they both stared at each other in silence.
It was Harry’s voice that broke it, running in with his crying sister in tow. “Dad, Effie dropped her doll in the pool! Now she is upset it is all wet,” He informed before he’d even made it to the entryway.
Both their faces turned to face their oldest, standing in the middle of the doorway, frowning at them. “Should I leave you two alone? Is this one of those moments?”
The juxtaposition of their mood and his question spurred the pair into action. Lily pulled away and smiled at her son. “No, no, this is not one of those moments,” she forced a smile and pushed herself up. Feeling the stick of the elderflower cordial on her shins.
“Can you rescue Mrs Morrison? I need a quick shower,” she asked with an apologetic smile. Feeling bad for having dropped this news on him only to bail out immediately.
Still, despite them both being thoroughly rattled, the classic, careless smile appeared on his face. Leaning in for a kiss on the cheek, the calloused pad of his thumb brushing along her cheekbone before releasing her.
Once upstairs, Lily shed her clothes and dipped into the shower. Enjoying the cool water down her back before scrubbing herself down. Starting to feel a little calmer now she was home.
Maybe she had been wrong. Perhaps it was a summer phantom, conjured up by the July heat, that had made her see things.
As Lily, wrapped in a fluffy bath towel and hopping over a few toys strewn along the landing, made her way to the bedroom, she felt almost calm. Even more so when she methodically went through the steps of dressing.
Seeing her little family play in the shade of their ginkgo tree from her bedroom window brought a smile back to her face.
Of course, she had not seen anything. That would be impossible. After all this time, she should have known better.
A crashing sound from the garden below caught her attention, a wailing cry for her. Forgoing a bra, she pulled the kaftan over her head and rushed down the stairs.
The little urchin crashed into her arms the moment she stepped foot in the kitchen. Lifting the two-year-old up, cradling him in her arms. Gently brushing his auburn locks away from the red mark on his forehead.
“Did we have a little oops?” she cooed, planting a gentle kiss on the spot. “Why don’t we see if we have some ice cream in the freezer?” A suggestion that made Al beam and chortle.
“I for ice cream! I!” he exclaimed, throwing his arms up and squirming out of the redhead’s arms to scamper towards the freezer. Clearly knowing all too well where they kept the treats.
Just when Lily was about to join the toddler pulling hard at the freezer door, the rattling of the front door drew her eyes. Heart jumping into her throat, Lily wordlessly summoned her wand from the basket in the hallway.
The lock clicked open, and from the summer heat, the phantom appeared once more.
He was older than the image in her memory, a scar adoring his sharp features, trailing from his temple to the middle of his cheek. Gold eyes met hers, lip curling into a familiar smile as he spoke.
“Honey, I’m home.”
Four edible plants native to Florida.
Salvia Lyrata, or Lyreleaf sage, a plant historically used by natives for medical purposes, is used for teas mainly. I haven't tried it but the whole plant is edible.
Stachys Floridana, or Florida Betony is a beautiful wildflower that produces white tubers that look a bit like grubs but taste almost like radishes, crispy and fresh.
Sambucus Nigra, or Elderberry /Elderflower depending on what stage it's in, is used for a nice tea in the flowering stage and syrups and jellies are made from the berries. They're also nice to look at.
Smilax auriculata, or Earleaf Greenbrier is pictured here, but all species are edible and have the same basic look. These are considered a nuisance by a lot of gardeners but they're my favorite from this list. The soft new growth at the end of vines look like asparagus and taste just as good in my opinion, which is where one common name, wild asparagus, comes from. In the spring you can eat whole meals of this stuff right off the plant just walking down a hiking trail, all you have to do is snap it off right where it wants to and chow down
Elderberry jam/jelly. I only had two cups of berries which were a pain in the ass to sort. I added two cups of water to round it out like I did with the beautyberries. This makes a jelly with fruit floating in it. Five 8oz jars and five 4oz jars.
