Here is a small brief summary of the review.
My fav things:
Kay, super witty, very fun banter and very father-like towards his squire Oswald
The romance: Kay and Elaine of Tintagel (Arthur's sister) are such a fun match
Arthur and Kay relationship even if it is very secondary
Galahad. Such a good guy. I love seeing him depicted as a bit snobbish but also actually very kind and only accidentally snob
A lot of arthurian characters in this!
The ending and how the romance was resolved, I loved it
Things I wished had been different but it was still okay
I wish there had been more Elaine, as she is only at the start and end
The way Kay resolves the final quest was repetitive
Things I did not enjoy + Trigger Warnings (under cut)
The romance was very sexual. It was usually pretty fun, except that I was a bit meh about the final Elaine and Kay scenes
Morgana. She deserves the full TW (SA, rape). The novel seems to not be sure what story it is telling. Morgana basically drugs and SA knights, and it is presented as that (it seems) but then everything is diluted in the humor when it is time to look at the aftermath of it. Really disliked it.

Can’t agree anymore, and also plz stop combine MORGAUSE and MORGAN into one person and give Mordred back to MORGAUSE plz I’m begging all of u🥲 this really annoys me…
Also, can someone make Elaine back to the stage? It should be a triple sisterhood🥺
I wonder why so many modern adaptations have Morgan as Uther's daughter instead of Igraine's? It's like they want Morgan to be a Pendragon? Is it so that she could be looked at as a threat to the crown as someone who is an heir or something? Personally, I prefer Morgan being Igraine's daughter. I'm fascinated in their mother-daughter relationship and wish more adaption and modern stories explored it more instead of erasing Igraine's motherhood to Morgan and having Morgan Arthur's sister through Uther instead.

In the Camelot flashback it mentions that House Galis has a leaping stag symbol. If its not a spoiler what are the other house symbols
Tumblr media
Pretty much all the five million different royal & noble houses & various clans would have these, so I'll just give a few samples here of the main image in the heraldry (which would be further personalized with crowns and bends and unicorns holding up the pennants & such).
House Prydain (subsumed by Pendragon): Red Dragon Passant (Basically the Welsh dragon, Ambrosius, Uther, Arthur etc)
House Orkney: Two-headed Golden Eagle (Pretty much shown all over the Orkney-related Wiki pages, Lot, Gawain, Agravain etc)
House Lyoness: Gold lion rampart (A variation from Tristan's wiki page, also Rivalin, Ysaie etc)
House Ganis: Sable five pointed star & crescent moon on a field of red (Bors I & II, Lionel, Bleoberis etc)
House Carbonek: Gold chalice (non-metallic) on a field of red (I think you know what this is, Pellam, Elaine, Galahad)
House Tintagel: Ten bezants on a field of sable (Triangle comprised of ten golden orbs, same as the Duke of Cornwall seen here, Gorlois, Cador, Constantine)

(Arthur will get all the love and reconciliation, Uther will physically fight at least three house members (Kay, Elaine of Tintagel, and Morgan) and be intensely and purposefully disappointed by another (Madoc))

"Well, you aren't listening!" it was Elaine's face that stares back at him. It was some distorted version of his own voice that shouts. "I'm walking around!"
She had known about Mark's death long before anyone else. She'd talked about it with such carelessness in the same manner that good mornings were said. She had added his name to one of her logs. She had shown galahad first. He'd held her hand so she could pull the old thing from the moat and not worry about falling in. She had held the log up and said, quite plainly, " the poor man's been killed."
it was not long after that that Cornwall fell. The journey from Camelot to Tintagel was one that was meant to ease the Lady Igraine into her new home. To do that properly, Nimue needed to get there and pick up the pieces Mark's wife had left behind. From what Nimue had gathered, the Irish Queen had, at her husband's request, worked towards a cure for Duchess' madness.
it seemed a shame Isolde would never get to finish her work... but that death was a different story.
"I can't just magick a bridge back together!" she had though. In her fit of screaming at him, the bridge had begun to be rebuilt and fall back apart all at her unknowing whim. This was the kind of thing Merlin had wanted to teach her. This was the kind of thing she had begun to learn on the Isle, but in both cases, she preferred to run.
That future seemed to scare her most.
"I'm. Not. Going. In. I. Will. Drown." She said finally. "There has to be shallow water. Or no water. I'm not going."

No, Elaine of Tintagel doesn’t “do things” or “have relevance to the plot” or whatever* but her inclusion is extremely important to me nonetheless
*except, of course, in the few stories where she does

Arthur: You should get the spiced red wine, this tavern always had the best one.
Morgana: I see.
Innkeeper: What will you guys take?
Morgana: I will get the cider.
Morgause: Me too.
Elaine: Yes, same.

I added to the list of books recs 4 books! (technically 5!)
The books recs list is this tumblr page where you can click on specific tags (ex. main character, romance, second character etc.) to find which books are tagged with it.
The four books added are:
Kaffka, the Holy Grail and a Woman Who reads: The Quests of Sir Kay (Rhoad) - which is a very fun Kay-focused humorous book where Kay finds a new squire, save a little dog, fall in love and mess up with the Grail quest. I definitely recommend this if you like Kay, Elaine of Tintagel, Galahad (secondary character) and you do not mind humor and anachronisms.
Cavall in Camelot (Mackaman) - Currently two books, both about Cavall, Arthur's dog. The books are mainly focused on Cavall, Arthur and other dogs. The first book also focuses on Mordred and the second on Bedivere and Lucan (and the quest for the Holy Grail). I would definitely recommend at least book one if you want to see Arthur's kingdom through new eyes, and if you like reading about the relationship between Mordred and Arthur.
King & Raven (Cary James) - A novel focused on a new chaarcter (Raven) who joins Arthur's court and becomes a knight. Very historical-focused, a lot of it is set in France and away from arthurian court. Other characters who appear are Arthur, Lancelot and a lot of new OC.
The Last Knight (Baldry) - A collection of short stories focused on Kay, in chronological order from a teen Kay to Arthur's end at Camlann. Some are new, some were published in different books and magazines. Other characters who appear are Arthur, Gareth, Gawain and Lancelot. Recommended if you are a whump fan, love hurt/comfort, like to see Kay in pain and being comforted (not always... sometimes it is hurt no comfort) and you like to read about Arthur & Kay.

Headcanoning Elaine as incarnation for the clusterfuck of that family dynamic and cute son that hopefully didn't die terribly.
I'm assuming you mean Elaine of Corbenic since she's the only one of the Elaines who made it into the 'Major' section of Merlin's Guide to Arthurian Lore while all the others were relegated into 'Minor' (which I haven't written yet. Aaany day now, yes.)
Although Elaine of Tintagel gets mentioned a lot in other people's entries and her family is kinda clusterfucking with all the backstabbing and civil wars too. Actually, now that I look at them, most of the Elaines have crazy family drama.
Tumblr media
But yes, both Elaine of Corbenic's biological family (the Grail Guardians) and her marriage family (hello, Lancelot) are certainly... doing things. Not even Merlin and all their clairvoyance knows what's truly going on with Galahad.

"You're back!" Arms are spread wide as a smile blossomed across her face. This is the way it has always been whenever anyone came to Tintagel, though it was often Mark who was greeted by such a happy expression.
It is a ghost she waits for. She's already looking beyond her visitor for a mountainous man who can never come home. Sir Jordan, as he so often was, was close at her heels, the faithful shadow still following a dead man's orders: protect her.
He will always be the Duke's man and his loyalty to this royal house had yet to sway for anyone. It is a soft correction on Jordan's lips, already guiding her from the place she wishes to be, with the person she wished was home now.
But the presentation to his Lady is as simply put " your boy is here." before the joy is only widened and like the ghosts she waited for, the woman simply glided down the stairs to her guest before pulling him into her arms.
"The girls are in the yard. I've let Elaine pull the flowers out of the beds for crowns-- she loves them you know. But I can't leave them long, my Morgause will play too hard-- she's so smart." there was further chatter of Morgen as well, but what age she was supposed to be seemed lost to idle chatter as Igraine straightened his hair and seemed well enough today.
There was further mention of having a bed made up so he should stay and milk with honey placed on the floor beneath it( she turned to Jordan with some offhanded remark that her Lord would not mind and as Aurelius was not King yet , he therefore could not impose his God on them).
"I won't let you be waterlogged." she returned her attention whispering " my boy." softly before stepping away from him, holding his hand still, lost momentarily. She was looking for Gorlois like she always did.
