I’ve got him checked out at the vet twice now and he’s healthy!!!! Nothing physically wrong!!!!! And vet appointments are fucking expensive, man!!

But he keeps crying at night. In his Pokéball, out of his Pokéball, being comforted by me or my Pokémon, after getting fed, with a Poké Doll… I don’t even know what it is, but it’s gotten worse lately!!!

2023 was a big year for Postcard Tag, the Newberry Library's project for crowdsourcing postcard transcriptions and classifications. We rebuilt the backend of the program in July to make it more efficient and added all-new cards to tag and enjoy (including the above sequence).

Was thinking about this at work but as much as I love the twist at the end of No One Eggspects the Spanish Inquisition and actually enjoy the whole episode, I also think it’s kinda…misplaced?? If that makes sense? Like I think Alejandro switching out the idols was clever, I genuinely didn’t expect it, and I thought the dialogue during the confrontation and the other cast reactions were pretty solid; but the thing with Aleheather for me is that they’re perfectly matched. Having Alejandro pull one over on Heather like that just felt unsatisfying, because it wasn’t like in WT when Alejandro and Heather would both win some interactions and lose others until Heather eventually won because she leaned into her more heroic side and/or Alejandro was defeated as both a symbol of antagonism and as a climax in his characterization wherein his pride and manipulative tactics finally resulted in his own downfall— Heather spent her time bickering with Jo or trying to prove Alejandro was lying, he spent it mostly being snarky with her, and then she got booted because he just…did something kinda clever that he would’ve done to anyone else who also posed a threat. It wasn’t a constant power struggle like it was in WT, it was Heather losing because in the AS narrative specifically, Alejandro simply was smarter than her; it felt empty, especially when held up to her victory in WT— which, side note, why is Heather exactly the same personality-wise as she was in the beginning of WT instead of growing since the end of it?? It would’ve been a lot more interesting for Alejandro to see Heather leaning into her heroic side more while still being on the villain team for her past, and maybe struggle with connecting with her because of that, or start picking up those characteristics when interacting with Mal, or become angrier and more distant and villainous in a cry for attention or an attempt to feel in control still despite being more pathetic than ever. And conversely I think Heather seeing who Alejandro’s become after her win/loss (depending on the ending) and feeling guilty or angry, and maybe struggling to relate to the other villains as much while still being hated by the heroes as well, would be really cool to see; it would also maybe add some flair to her rivalry with Jo, who maybe has a similar internal struggle or even has gotten worse since ROTI. There were so many other options that would’ve upped the heroes vs villains/good vs evil motifs and elevated their characters and tied up their storylines for the final season they appeared in, maybe showing the depths of what competitive reality TV has done to them and made them crave. But instead it was just kinda nothing. I feel like the twist would’ve worked better if it was reversed so Heather got Alejandro out while he desperately tried to stay in a game that was hurting him, or if Alejandro got someone like Jo or Lightning out instead— maybe because he sees himself in them and feels guilty or scared, but justifies this to himself because they’re “threats” (even though, to him, they certainly aren’t) because he’s afraid to admit that he’s still soft somewhere deep down— which he uncovers by working with Heather or working against Mal or etc. Idk something like that, maybe I’m talking out of my ass here because I haven’t seen WT or AS in a while but I feel like, while the twist itself was good, having Alejandro get Heather out specifically (especially considering how poorly the writers portrayed Heather that season within the context of her arc in WT) felt cheap and almost cynical.

It's merge time in Total Drama!

I'm fine with everybody currently left except Ripper. How the heck is Ripper still here? He should have been gone at least three times already.

The challenge was meh. The egg hunt reminded me of "Rapa-Phooey" from World Tour and "No One Eggspects the Spanish Opposition" from All-Stars, but less interesting because it doesn't have a gimmick like the Easter Island heads of past campers or the variety of mutant creatures the eggs came from and the different sizes of the eggs themselves.

I really appreciated the scene where Bowie told Raj that they needed to put their mutual romantic interest in each other on pause for the game and that they could go on a date after the show finished. Bowie showed his ability to separate romance from the game, which is something you don't see often.

Fractures are starting to show in Priya and Millie's friendship, judging by Priya's reaction to Millie accepting immunity.

I'm not upset about the double elimination; with the slightly bigger cast than previous seasons, it was a necessity. My problem is who was in the double. It's been a while since we had a medical evacuation on the show, so we were probably due, I'm just bummed out that it was the hockey bros, especially so soon after Raj told about the kiss and Bowie put their potential relationship on pause.

Aside from my obvious push for Ripper to go, I think a better double would have been Chase and Emma. I just didn't enjoy them this episode, and they were kinda getting stale. This way, we could see Bowie keep his promise to separate game from relationship, and we could see Wayne being more of a wingman for Raj.

Please watch the Total Drama reboot as much as you can on Cartoon Network and/or Max! This is the only way we can tell executives that we want a third season of the reboot.

• So he never noticed you, even after all your years of being in the same class with him but you never really stuck out. It wasn't until Hobie Brown introduced you to him, and he kind of found you cute.

But unfortunately at first he found you a bit boring. You didn't talk much, what was there to you anyway?

During social conversations in the group, you'd always just laugh or nod along, anytime you reply it'd be short or subtle. It wasn't until the both of you went home late after school that he decided to talk to you, walk with you home since you both lived on the same block.

• "Hey, uh, what's your name again?"

"Oh uh...Y/N."

"Right. Don't blame me for not remembering. you're like a wall when it comes to conversation."

He chuckled, then quieted down when he saw you didn't laugh along.

"Since I'm so nice, I'll walk you home. Your down this block too right?"

"Yeah."

"Knew it, I see you here a lot you know. Whyd you never talk to me?"

"...Well, uh..."

There's an awkward pause.

"...I don't know actually. Its hard to explain."

"Oh. Well, okay weirdo."

You turn to him again as you walk, with furrowed eyebrows, a little offended.

"What? I don't mean it in a bad way."

"Really? How is weirdo not a bad thing."

"Geez I don't know," He laughs, "I expected you to have some long answer, you paused for a long time I thought it was some deep geek stuff or something."

You smiled at that, finally a smile.

"...Your fault for assuming."

• The rest of the walk was surprisingly really nice, he spoke to you more over...Well, anything really! It was fun to talk to you, to his surprise. You had so much to say, it was such a different experience from when you'd just nod along to what the group said.

• "No way." Flash said, an amused grin on his face as you told him a story in such a dramatic way. Hands being used to convey more emphasis, making the mood feel like you guys have been friends forever.

You continued with a laugh, "Yeah! It was so funny, he literally walked around with a huge hole in his pants and the most serious expression on his face- like this!" You shifted your expression to something so incredibly stupid. He burst into laughter, echoing through the neighbourhood.

• From then you two really hit it off. Walking home alone became a regular thing, and he'd even ask you to more personal group things, something the others in the group would've never expected from an asshole like Flash.

• It wasn't until he became more touchy with you, having an arm wrapped around your shoulder to be more protective or looking at you and listening to intensely, is when they all realized he had the fattest crush on you.

And, they could also tell you felt the same way.

Because whenever you two were together, they'd see the way you'd laugh so loudly, grinning with the sweetest and most excited smile. Oh boy, you two were head over heels for each other.

"I guess you could say that was...un-EGGspected."

Flash snorted, shaking his head with a small smile. "That might be your worst joke yet, Y/N."

• When Sally saw that conversation she KNEW yall liked each other like it was so obvious Flash usually replies to bad jokes with Sarcastic remarks but he actually SNORTED at that.

• Randy approached him one day,

"So, when are you gonna ask them out?"

He grinned in confusion, "What? Them who?"

Randy smiled, "Y/N. You've hung around them a lot."

His cheeks went a little red, raising his shoulders defensively and laughing nervously.

"What? No way-I don't like them like that. They're a geek! I pity them."

Randy gave him a look, crossing his arms. It was quiet, Flash was putting the pieces together in his head. He can admit, you two have been spending a lot of time together, and yeah, he does love it whenever you laugh or smile at him with that cute grin, maybe he likes the way he can make you blush so easily when you guys are in big groups, and yeah maybe, he wants to kiss you.

Oh.

OH!

His eyes widened in realisation, making Randy crack a smile. He simply pat him on the shoulder, "Goodluck man. Hope they say yes." Then he walks away, leaving him standing there stiffly and unresponsive.

• I think you realized you liked him back when he would actually listen to you, and when he would tell you such sweet things without even realizing it. There would be moments where his voice was softer somehow, quieter, and he was so serious in these moments.

When you were upset over something he'd listen, a hand rubbing your back as you'd cry. He never knew how to deal with people that cried, so it always started out so awkward with him. But he'd listen, give you a hug, and actually help.

That's something he usually never did. Listen. He never listened to people, but it was you. Of course he'd listen.

• The fact he was an ass to most but really cared about you I guess...that's one of the things that made you fall for him.

But do you have enough confidence to tell him? And does he know you like him back?

Who voted for who and why? This one is pretty obvious. Heather told Courtney and Scott that Alejandro was telling everyone to vote for Scott. She also told Gwen and Cameron that Alejandro was telling everyone to vote for Cameron. But she told all of them that her vote was for Alejandro. So, as Chris said, the only vote that wasn't for Alejandro was for Heather.

Final count: 1 vote for Heather, 5 for Alejandro

But what do you think? Heather showed in Island and World Tour that she places advancing in the game before voting off people she doesn't like, so why did she suggest an alliance with Alejandro, then backstab him? i looked through all my active wips for the funniest possible line to include here (nsfw):

There’s no good way to say it: there’s no penis.

17. talk about your writing and editing process

there are some (usually long) fics i plan out really meticulously from the start, that need really detailed outlines and charts and lists, and that i have really set goals for. "fixing the fall" is one of these! my notes are miles long, my outline is extensive, i scene block before i write, and i’m rubbing my hands together evilly with every plot point i set up

some fics are spontaneous, and i just let them write themselves as instinct dictates ^^ my most recent silly crackfic “what to expect when you’re eggspecting” is one of these. i had a few lines pre-written from brainstorming, but overall it was a quick linear write i didn’t think about too deeply. fun in its own way!

most fics are probably somewhere in the middle for me. “dog days” for example had a rough outline and a decent amount of notes, but i kept shuffling scenes around as i went; originally, the conversation at the end of chapter 2 (the “you don’t know what you want” bit, if you’ve read it) was going to be much later, and the ann conversation in chapter 3 was going to be much earlier. chapter 1 was relatively easy and instinctual, but i had to work a little harder to make it work after that ^^

i edit a bit as i go, but most of my editing probably happens between my first and second draft, where i rewrite if not most of the fic then at least huge huge chunks of it. i sweep for basic stuff like grammar and syntax after that, though it’s not as fun as structural editing, so i’m not really too strict about it. you’ll probably find a lot of repeating words and noun/verb disagreement in my fics if you look hard enough <3

i don’t actually keep that many, but here’s a deleted nsfw excerpt from "sanguine / saccharine" (canon compliant f/f akeshu) under the cut! it ended up being a lot sweeter and more openly intimate than what i was going for ^^

The wind hits the side of Leblanc with a thunk, forcing a gap in Akechi’s haze of dizzy sentimentality. Ren looks up, too: first toward the noise, then toward Akechi. Even with Akechi’s hand on her breast, Ren stays remarkably straight-faced but for the way she’s lit up bright red.

A moment passes in silence. Akechi reaches for some instinct on what to do and comes up empty. She can’t shake the feeling she’s done something irreversible: either touching Ren in the first place, or hovering here, not touching her. Her hand is still frozen on her chest.

In the end, Ren breaks the silence first. “So, have you done this before?”

Her delivery is so flat Akechi almost laughs. “What do you think?”
