what is your favorite type of Duck?
I'm drawing something and can't pick what type of duck and I thought why not ask you
I have several favorites. Here's one off the top of my head...

Torrent Duck (Merganetta armata), L - female and R - male, family Anatidae, order Anseriformes, Chile
As the name suggests, these ducks live in fast flowing rivers, in western South America, from Colombia to Tierra del Fuego.

Society of the Snow is incredible in so many ways. But one of the biggest is the incredible, tender thoughtfulness put into casting the boys.
In Pablo Vierci's book, he wrote in the forward that before filming, Enzo met Numa's family and walked through their home. One of his sisters said, "when they went into the backyard, she felt for a moment as if her brother had come back." Also, when the survivors met the cast, they were stunned by how similar Diego and Alfonsina looked to Marcelo and Suzy. One of the survivors said that when Alfonsina stood up to speak to the group, his mind just couldn't comprehend it because Suzy Parrado was dead, but there she was in front of them.
The video I was waiting for.
Actors and characters side by side, posted by Bayona on his instagram.

Feliz Cumpleaños a cielo a nuestro eterno amado capitán, Marcelo Pérez del Castillo 💛

There are few words to describe how beloved Marcelo Pérez del Castillo was as a son, brother, friend and captain, as well as a surrogate father figure to his two younger sisters, Stella and Claudia, after the tragic early death of his father in 1968. Marcelo is described as charming, cheeky, loving, and energetic, with a magnetic and mischievous personality and a deep love for the sport of rugby. Whether he was running the Old Christian's Rugby Club (of which he was a co-founder along with his best friend, Eduardo Strauch), working in his architecture studio with Eduardo, riding his motorcycle along the streets of Montevideo or procrastinating on his homework, the testimonies of those who loved him make clear how much he lit up the world during his short life.

His deeply caring personality continued to shine through even in the worst of circumstances. Survivor Javier Methol wrote of Marcelo: "What those young boys needed was strong direction stemming from love, in a setting of orderliness and camaraderie. And what was Marcelo? He was all of that."

From taking immediate action in the moments after the crash, organizing the rescue of survivors trapped under crushed airplane seats and building the luggage wall that kept the survivors from freezing to death the first night, to volunteering to hand out the rations of dried human flesh after it became clear that rescue wasn't coming, Marcelo lived and breathed his values of honor, integrity, courage and kindness until the very end.

Today, the 26th of March 2025, would have been his 78th birthday. Today, I hope you take a moment to remember a brave, kind and beloved boy, who fought until his very last breath, and reach out to those around you with the same warmth and care Marcelo showed every day of his too-short life.
Happy heavenly birthday, Marcelo. I hope you're up there having the biggest party and dancing your heart out with your friends and family 💛

Bolivia’s capital of La Paz is reeling in the wake of an attempted coup as troops led by a top general rammed the doors of the government palace in tumultous scenes that threatened to drag the South American democracy into chaos.
Military forces led by army chief General Juan Jose Zuniga appeared to take control of president Luis Arce’s government by seizing control of the town square and unleashing tear gas on protesters who flooded the streets.
General Zuniga vowed to “restore democracy”, replae and cabinet and free political prisoners, but was condemned opposition leaders as it became clear he had little political support.
Mr Arce refused to bow to the pressure and named a new army commander, who immediately ordered troops to stand down, ending the rebellion.
The president’s supporters rapidly came to his aid and rushed the square outside the palace, waving Bolivian flags, singing the national anthem and cheering.
Mr Arce said: “Here we are, firm, in the presidential palace, to confront any coup attempt.”
General Zuniga and alleged co-conspirator former navy Vice Admiral Juan Arnez Salvador were arrested by authorities.
Government minister Eduardo del Castillo told journalists: “Their goal was to overturn the democratically elected authority,”
The short-lived rebellion followed months of mounting tensions between Arce and his one-time ally, left-wing former president Evo Morales.
Mr Morales, the country’s first Indigenous president, was forced to resign after 14 years in power in 2019 after mass protests against him.
He has since returned from political exile and is threatening to challenge Mr Arce in the 2025 primaries, which has caused a widening rift in their ruling socialist party.
Further fueling tensions in the country is the ongoing economic crisis, with the country’s foreign currency reserves diminishing, its natural gas exports plummeting and its currency peg collapsing.
As police in riot gear set up outside the presidential palace, Bolivians queued at ATMs, formed long lines outside petrol stations and emptied shelves in grocery stores.
Flanked by the newly appointed military chiefs late Wednesday, defense minister Edmundo Novillo sought to reassure the rattled public and shed light on what had happened.
The turmoil began earlier this week, Mr Novillo said, when Mr Arce dismissed General Zuniga in a private meeting on Tuesday over the army chief’s threats to arrest Morales if he proceeded with his presidential bid in 2025.
In their meeting, Novillo said that General Zuniga gave officials no indication he was preparing to seize power.
Just hours later tailed by armored vehicles and supporters, General Zuniga burst into government headquarters and declared that he was sick of political infighting. “The armed forces intend to restore the democracy,” he said.
Members of the country’s fragmented opposition, which General Zuniga claimed to support, rejected the coup before it was clear it had failed.
Prosecutors will seek the maximum sentence of 15 to 20 years in prison for General Zuniga on charges of “attacking the constitution,” he said.
“This grants control to the military and erodes democracy and is an important signpost that the problems of the 2019 coup have not been addressed,” said Kathryn Ledebur, director of the Andean Information Network, a Bolivia-based research group. “Bolivia’s democracy remains very fragile, and definitely a great deal more fragile today than it was yesterday.”

26. Out of the Silence, by Eduardo Strauch
Owned: Yes Page count: 164 My summary: Four cousins boarded a plane on its fateful flight across the Andes. But when the rescuers came, only three of them lived to tell the tale. Eduardo Strauch was one, taking on a leadership role after the avalanche, cutting meat, helping the group survive however he could. This is his story. My rating: 4/5 My commentary:
Eduardo Strauch is one of the Strauch cousins, who became leaders in the group of survivors after the death of rugby team captain Marcelo Pérez del Castillo, and who along with Roberto Canessa had the grisly task of cutting meat from the bodies of the dead. He was left behind in the plane when Canessa and Parrado went on their expedition to the west, and was rescued along with the others when the helicopters came.
The thing I found interesting about this book was its formatting. While Strauch does give a loose chronological account of the disaster and its aftereffects, each chapter is themed after a different idea or emotion - life, death, hope, that sort of thing. The chapter contains reflections on that theme, both from what Strauch was feeling and experiencing in the Andes at the time and what he has felt about it and experienced since the rescue. He comes across as a thoughtful individual, someone who has spent a fair amount of time contemplating the events (understandably) since, sorting out his thoughts. The different themes of the chapters invite hard questions - why did those who survive live when all the others died? Why did some perish in the avalanche and some make it? What does it all mean, in the grand scheme of things? Strauch doesn't have answers, but sometimes the questions are enough.
Next, the last of these books, and the actually definitive account of the crash.

Ataque a fuerzas del orden en Bulo Bulo

Encontraron dos fábricas de cocaína y más de 1.600 litros de gasolina desviados para su elaboración. Los pobladores quemaron un…
