9 more testament-related yonkoma coming right up! the previous 8 can be found here
how to read yonkoma + translation notes + etc under the cut ^^
How to Read Yonkoma/4-koma (<- means "4 panels"):
short answer:
long answer: here
-
Translation Notes:
lil hanamaru: was titled Hanamaru-kun in the original text. a hanamaru is a flower drawn on japanese kids' schoolwork when they do a good job, like a gold star. since the comic shows the flower very obviously here, i couldnt lie to you all and title it Lil' Gold Star, and i think we have no other flower-related equivalent to this, so ive decided to use this as an opportunity to teach those who dont know this little japanese culture fact. feel free to google what a hanamaru looks like!
among us: this was titled Infiltration in the original text. because im quirky, i changed it to Among Us. when people complain about translators adding in stuff that didnt exist in the original text, this is exactly what theyre talking about. im so sorry. i have to reference amogus every chance i get (fwiw: i can do this because its just comedy. i wouldnt randomly add funny references during more serious scenes)
how about a bout: original title was something like "You're Fighting!?" but uhhhh. okay, i dont even know why i changed the title of this one 😂 i think at the time i couldnt think of a way to translate the title, so i came up with something punny and related to the subject matter. just now as i reread the original text i understood it, but i like my pun better than the original and dont feel like going back and changing it. do you forgive me? 😿
memory over the material: in the very first panel, testament says in the original text something like "you can't erase me physically or any other way." because this is all comedy, i added a reference most tumblr users should get to add to the mood.
i think thats about it! tldr, i think im funny and sacrificed direct translation for comedic effect when i felt like it. common industry practice, really. i wouldnt be so loose when translating if this wasnt all comedy!
-
i wanted to add that if you want to follow me to see when i next share a translation, you should follow @cicistash instead of this blog. ill put all translations there... and art in the future, but ill tag the art so you can filter it out.
thank you so much for reading my translations! im sorry for the long wait between the first one and this! i hope the next one comes much faster. and sorry if it looks ugly, of course, im new to editing scans and such

It has been a busy and exhausting week but we're back for another #AudioDramaSunday! We're gonna start with the Technomancy Project because it's the 1st of the month and I adore The Technomancy Project. They put my boy (Elijah) through the WRINGER please just let him REST
Also new today is public access for @malevolentcast ep 36 and the boys are fighting!! They are best friends (by force but shh) and will move on eventually but gods I'm worried about John. Also worried that Arthur starting to trust people will bite him in the ass. Gods what a show though
@re-dracula is getting into chunky episode season and they're all so GOOD. Ive been crying at my desk a LOT due to Re: Dracula (David Ault as Arthur is BREAKING ME). The one bit of light is the genuine joy in Jonny Sims' voice every time Dr Seward says Quincy Morris' name <3
I'm almost caught up on @thesiltverses and whooboy the back half of season 2 is a LOT. Paige and Hayword are a duo I didn't know I needed but also I am WORRIED ABOUT THEM. Carpenter and Faulkner are siblings and I adore them <3
@doyoucopypod ripped my heart out of my chest and squeezed it this week. Its a brilliant and beautiful discussion of grief and the different ways it manifests and it hurt me so bad while I was in office.Listen to Do You Copy. Do it. Its so good.
It is officially 31 Days of Halloween season on Tiny Terrors! I, like many, am afraid of spider. This episode did not help that. But my gods it was good. Alex C Telander wrote one hell of an ep and Kira Apple performed it excellently. I cant wait for more Tiny Terrors this month.
We are days away from the premiere of @eelerschoice and gods I'm excited!! Maritime horror fantasy? Created by Lou Sutcliffe and Daisy McNamara? With a phenomenal cast? And a punny title? How could I NOT be excited for Eeler's Choice its gonna be SO GOOD
Here on the Fringes I have the first ep of season 2 fully edited and am working my way through editing the rest of the season! Also currently have 5 episodes written for season 3 and I am putting some characters through the wringer :)
On the @forgedbondspod front I've also got 5 eps written, 3 people cast, and currently just trying to figure out the best way to contact the 4th person I'm hoping to have involved. Things! They are happening!! I'm so excited to share Forged Bonds with yall its already so fun
That's all for this week! It's come to my attention that I *may* be working a little too much between full time job, 1-2 hours of editing each week day, and 2-5 hours of writing on Saturdays 😅 Gonna keep trying to refine this to avoid burnout but there are fun things coming!

Chamomile Comic Trivia #22
#112 - Certain
Pretty simple comic based on a thought that popped into my head after I had the same experience Cammie describes. Can’t remember if the punchline of Layla’s response just came to me or if I had to squeeze it out of the premise!
#113 - Weird
The second edition of “I came up with a punny joke and just decided to use it completely unorganically as comic fodder instead of just posting it on my personal twitter when I thought of it”.
Also god I wanna slap my past self around the head for thinking I somehow didn’t need to use reference for profile views what is going on with Cammie’s face/neck/hairline here argh!
#114 - Music
The first album the customer holds up here is a doodly little version of the Team Sonic Racing soundtrack, which I guess I was listening to a lot at the time! The other two albums he holds up were, I think, just random original doodles. The third might’ve been someone on TV at the time or something, not sure! I should really start writing these trivia posts as I make the comics rather than several years after, maybe!
#115 - Girl
A long while back I decided to make Chamomile’s canonical birthday the same day as the day I first drew her, which happened to be June 30th. Since this was the first year the comic update fell on that day, I decided to make it a comic!
Here she turns 28, and sure enough, two years earlier, Brianna said she was 26. However... since then, I’ve kinda quietly switched over to a floaty timeline. Webcomic time moves slowly, and thus the characters felt like they would age too quickly for the amount of life events I have time to cover in the comic. So for the time being, Cammie remains 28 canonically, Layla and Brianna remain definitely within the same year as her on account of being school friends, and Vienna and Samantha remain... whatever they are (they’re older than the other three, but not by much).
Brianna’s worn this outfit a few times over the years since this comic, but if I recall you never actually get a really good look at it due to the poses/framing I needed in all those comics. It says “NO CAUSE FOR A...” and has a Llama underneath.
The final note of trivia on this one... as previously mentioned, on platforms where I provide a title for the comic, it’s always just a single word from as early in the dialogue as possible, regardless of whether that word is a decent title for the comic’s subject or not (so as to not spoil or raise any expectations for the subject of the gag). I also never repeat the same word twice... except in this case, where for literally years, this comic was named “Birthday”, same as #109, not even ten comics ago! At time of writing (September 2022) I think it was only within this year that I noticed and corrected this (utterly pedantic that I only I care about) mistake.
#116 - Laundry
Not much to say about this one, if I recall this was just one of those divine gifts my brain figured out on automatic for me. To this day it remains one of my favourite silly Cammie visual gag comics and I can’t see myself ever removing it from the new reader/sample comic selection on the comic’s home page. Naturally you can spot a bunch of familiar colours (and a couple patterns) from existing outfits in Cammie’s laundry basket such as her signature outfit, the rose pattern skirt and her designed coffee t-shirt.
I also think I was VERY well-behaved to not clutter up the experience with fanservice even though the scenario was ripe for it. I’m sure that’ll get me a few heckles and boos from the audience but I say if you can’t enjoy Cammie at her [funny comic] you don’t deserve her at her [sexy pinup]!!
#117 - Hair
This was a fun old one to do, I’ve definitely had a few snapped hairbands over the years and my lucious locks are nowhere near Cammie’s level! I remember drawing the vice was really tricky because there was little in the way of references at the precise angle I needed for maximum comedic effect and sense-making (as much as it ever could).
As usual for when I need to draw a bunch of CDs from the shop, I put my iTunes library on shuffle, set album artwork to display and just drew little 5 second doodles of what came up because coming up with like 40 original ideas, even at this low fidelity, is a nightmare for something that isn’t really going to be paid attention to. I can Childish Gambino’s "Awaken, My Love!", Lazlo Bane’s All the Time in the World, and Ryan Roth’s The Beginner’s Guide Soundtrack here, but several others look specific enough to definitely be something. Seems I randomised the colours though and doodled the designs on after, mind.
Drawing a comic sequence of someone tying hair is really tricky to break down into key poses! It was also a fun challenge to find a way to imply significantly more failed attempts than I had time to show in the comic (with the panel above being my solution).

this is old news i guess but still. cube video team is a separate departament in cube, under different supervisor than idk artist developement team. so they have relatively more freedom, and also are very important for all cube groups, given they provide all the extra video content: behind the scenes, small series, song cover videos etc. back in 2012 cube video team decided to develop special contents for btob, like sik's sense. slowly they managed to hone a specific style, for example using punny series titles, adding a lot of extra sound effects and figuring out a subtitle system. i'm pretty sure the fact this much extra content is available to watch for free is a major pro of being a fan of (among many cons but i already talked abt thay 🙃). also fans are allowed to edit all these videos whatever they want, as it's ultimately beneficial for the groups' recognition video team people go on youtube to check from time to time, and are often amazed by the creativity, using the ideas from fans to futher improve their work
they have a youtube channel where they post extra content that didn't make the cut. for example rehearsal videos that we normally wouldn't be able to watch. i'm pretty sure this channel wasn't even advertised by cube, it's just a side project video team created to make use of extra content because they know fans will appreciate it. right now they are for example posting unseen clips of currently enlisted cube idols, they don't really have to honestly? but they simply want to
there's an older interview (2016) with video team dept head here, focused mostly on btob stuff but there's some info about creative process and also it's implied the video team had to work on a time crunch a lot 🙃
#everyone say thank you cube video team#rest of cube can idk eat dirt#also i hate all kpop companies. ALL.#not just cube 💜#you can tell the webtoon concept was also made on a time crunch!!#despite cube having a whole deal with webtoon platform so they could plan it well if they only wanted too#manhwa webtoon.. same thing to me#remember when honk fans said in 2016 how crazy it is for them to get so much extra content esp compared to yg ways 🙈#i personally believe cube started the whole trend of creating curated behind the scenes content for youtube#they were doing that in 2011 even#before vlive you wouldnt get that much non-broadcast video content IMHO#vlive is still such a wild concept to me

Welcome back, my dear, to the 2nd Edition of Behind The Song, for hono(u)red recipients of this newsletter only (I've been waffling back and forth about whether it should be "Behind the Song" or "Behind The Music," but for today it's BtS).
Last night, I asked the Plague Rats/Inmates of Instagram whether they'd prefer this edition to be on "Nothing" or on "I Remember Mornings," and the title of this newsletter should tell you which song won out.
If you need a refresher on the song, it's everywhere, but here's a handy link to listen on YouTube as that's completely free.
[link]
So, let's get right into this epic ballad that you've known since its release in 2018, and which is to be sung in the Asylum musical by an equally epic as-yet-unrevealed soprano, shall we?
Have a gander at this:
What you see above is the ACTUAL WORKSHEET from my notebook (I'm not yelling, I swear) that I scratched out as I was beginning to compose 'I Remember Mornings' (British punctuation for British songs, remember?). This is your first clue into one of my most common songwriting processes—having a little chat with myself to straighten some things out so that I don't fly off in the wrong direction.
Let me take you through what I wrote on this note page, so that you can perhaps use my methods in your own work!
Main Technique Employed: FIND THE PUNCHLINE (a.k.a. The Terrible Truth)
At the top of the page, you will see a Punchline: I'm in mourning 'til I die.
So, I'm sitting in bed, where I usually write, and I know that I want to punch the audience in the gut at the end of this song, in the nicest possible way. I know the words I'm going to weaponize to accomplish this arguably honorable mission. But how am I going to get to this punchline? I've got to establish The Joke.
What is the joke? Well, as I jotted down, there's a line that's been repeated at the end of every chorus, "In mourning still am I." I know that the audience will come to expect this, probably appreciate the clever reference to Mournington's name, and will even look forward to it by the end, because, hey, it's a great closing line, even if we have heard it before. It's solid. It's satisfying. And it's sad. But...we can do better.
Let's kick expectations square in the arse (this is getting too violent for me). Switch "I" to "die," reveal Madam Mournington's "terrible truth," AND have the lady foreshadow her own tragic demise, whilst (yes, there's more) painting an ironic metaphor equating mourning to a living death. Ouch. My gut is sore already.
How can I pull this off? I need to really have this mean something, otherwise we're just witnessing a supporting character's punny pity party. I've got to lay out some Objectives, both for the character and for myself regarding the audience, whom I am there to shepherd and protect above all things.
Madam Mournington's Objectives:
1. This is her final attempt to crush any remaining love and beauty in her heart and unburden herself from guilt and self-flagellation.
MY Objectives:
1. Set up the audience to care when Mournington dies.
2. Solidify the wedge between Mournington and her son, Dr. Stockill.
3. Explain her heretofore inexplicable actions by revealing her "pain point" (just enough so that, when it is later revealed that Stockill killed her infant daughter, the audience isn't like, "What the actual hell").
Now that we've gone through my original song notes from 2018, I'll go a little deeper into what happened after these notes were made.
On top of the Punchline, the Joke, and the Objectives, Mournington needed an Arc. In my observation, and in my own practice, there are 3 primary types of Song Arcs:
1. Acceptance (where the character ends at the same place they started, but with a different perspective: 'Nothing')
2. Transformation (where the character is different by the end: 'From The Gutter To The Stars', 'One Foot In Front Of The Other', "We Have Instructions")
3. Explanation (where the character doesn't change but the audience's perception of them does, because they learn something new: 'The Spider's Face', "Private Practice," 'Who's A Little Leech')
'I Remember Mornings' is prime example of...ding ding ding! ACCEPTANCE.
Fun Facts:
Much of IRM you can actually sing 'Gaslight' over, and this is an example of a "non-accidental accident." The two songs wove themselves together because their similarities made it impossible to keep them apart. In 'Gaslight', Emily starts off looking around at the place she's in, and ends up accepting that she will never leave, and that despair is to be her permanent state. M.M. does just that in IRM (they are even talking about the same place).
They are both flashing back to instances where a young female they adored had been hurt (in M.M.'s case, her daughter, and in Emily's, The Captain, whom she feels maternally toward).
They both talk about the cells that imprison them, showing that Mournington is just as much an inmate as the...Inmates.
But, the connection between Mournington and Emily goes ever deeper...not only are they the only two women in Stockill's life, but M.M. even adopts the melody of whose opening number? Emilie's (who is of course also Emily). That's right, M.M.'s first line is straight out of "What Will I Remember?" There is even a sort of "call and response" going on here: Emilie asks, "What will I remember?", and Mournington replies, 'I remember mornings'.
This all comes together when, as she is dying, Mournington realizes that she and Emily have a common enemy in Stockill and gives Emily the key that has symbolized her own position in the Asylum (and in the modern-day psych ward as the Head Nurse), essentially making Emily the new Mournington as keeper of the key (bet you never thought of that implication, ah?).
Of course, Emily had the key that would unlock the cells all along in the form of the one tied around her leg for a damned decade, but Mournington never knows this, and this also presumes that Emily's key would have worked before the moment she truly needed it to, which is something that even I don't know the answer to, and to which you will kindly draw your own conclusions.
Actually Singing The Thing:
Vocally, recording this song was difficult for three reasons, the first being that I had to manipulate my voice to sound like that of an older woman without making it campy (it's easier to be a Rat), the second being that I was recording this in, no, not a bathroom, but in a bathroom closet (this was all that was available at the time), and the third being that the last note of the song is really, really bloody high. Or rather, it seemed so then, because I hadn't yet moved the Asylum HQ to NYC and studied voice with the master goddess that is Mary Setrakian, who discovered, through her magical methods, that within my untrained alto throat lay a coloratura soprano, which I'm relieved to report is no longer entirely untrained, and which has made possible the song that will end with the highest note ever sung in a musical to my knowledge. (You've not yet heard this song, but I'm recording it for you now, so get ready for your wine glasses to shatter.)
And the final piece of IRM's puzzle is the intro bit...the melody of '4 o'Clock'. In the show, Mournington serves up her big number walking through the Cell Ward in the middle of the night (just after becoming slightly aware of the Asylum's prostitution ring), indicating that she can't sleep. And this leads me to something I'd like to leave you with—two questions I'll invite you to ponder at your own leisure:
1. Is there even the most remote possibility that the borrowing of the '4 o'Clock' theme as Mournington's intro says just a little bit more about her mental state than that she's got insomnia because she's miserable/morally uncomfortable? After all, it is, and has always been since its release all these years ago, well before I was even properly medicated, the anthem of the bipolar girl experiencing the common if creepily unexplained bipolar phenomena of waking up each night at 4 A.M. on the dot. Why is Mournington up at 4 A.M.?
2. Why don't Mournington and her son, Dr. Stockill, share a surname? What does this say about her, about him, and about the dead husband we know oh-so-little about?
I shall see you next week, when we will finally delve into...'Nothing'!

In a development that I cannot decide on if I love or hate, one of the most soulless parts of my job has just become a lot easier and more soulless.
We have subscribed to a service that uses an AI to help generate marketing copy.
“But Steph” I hear you screaming, “won’t that just mean that all business websites sound like each other?” To which I will respond, “have you looked at any business websites lately?” Marketing is a game of follow the leader over the cliff and into perpetual death at the hands of capitalism. So, I’m not really worried about the unique qualities of the writing. What I was worried about was the ability to shape the voice and the subject matter enough to make businesses happy to pay us for it (and get them sales because that makes them more happy and gets us more money which we use to feed ourselves and our habits).
But, I’ve just used it, and I was able to poop out a 500 word blog post on a subject I have no personal passion for in about 20 minutes. That’s about right for my writing process, except that I didn’t have to research or outline beforehand. I just kind of described the business purpose of the text, gave it a title, some keywords to focus on, and wrote an introductory paragraph that included a strong thesis and then the robot wrote a couple of sentences. I edited the sentences to my satisfaction, added additional details if needed and then had the robot write more.
I’m excited because I hate writing copy for businesses. I’d rather write puckish punny poems in perpetuity then try to justify magnets as medicine (a client of ours that I hate), but on the other hand I know this tool is only as good as it is because I have final editorial oversight, and I know that capitalism is going to push us to the point where it’s replacing talented, amazing writers who also need to feed themselves and their habits.
We’re a small company. We can’t afford a full time staff writer, so I’ve written more marketing copy in the last year than I have in the five before that because I am fast and generally poop out something half decent that clients approve of. This is a real way to make less of my time about that writing and more about the parts I love, but for every business like us, I’m sure there’s another business that’s using it to justify firing someone, and that just sucks.
Automation is really cool when it’s used responsibly. Tech that genuinely helps people is awesome. But automating business goals in capitalism means putting someone out of a job, even if that automation still needs someone at the helm.
Like I said, I feel very conflicted.

Thai Feud Review (with spoilers!)
So, I wasn't quite sure how to do this. I already watched Thai Feud but not Adventures in Catsitting, so I think what I'm going to do is review this episode, then go back and review The New Normal, Hop Till You Drop and Turning Point, and then come back to Adventures in Catsitting. This may take a few days.
Read more for the episode review!
So I guess I'll start with the plot of this episode.
Sprig spends the entire episode trying to gain the approval of a specific woman
Anne tries to stop him
He finds out about a man who he initially thinks she likes, but she actually has a rivalry with him, and tries to use that to help get her to like him
Polly (and someone else) decline to participate in Sprig's plan so they can see something they both want to see
At the end, something the woman says makes Sprig excited about finally achieving his goal
She, however, is less than thrilled at this new development, as he starts annoying her again
Sound familiar? That's because it also describes a different episode. First person to comment on this post with the other episode that I am describing may win a prize!
What else can I say about this episode? I like how it shows that, slowly but surely, the Plantars and the Boonchuys are becoming one family. Wishful thinking, but what if the same happened for Grime and the Waybrights, or for... I guess Lady Olivia and the Wus? And I wonder what the effects of this might be on the rest of the series?
I have a few more thoughts here:
Will Sprig have lots of chores to do now that he's officially a Boonchuy? If so, will Hop Pop and Polly have chores as well, or will Sprig regret his decision? And will he finally learn some responsibility?
Did anyone else recognize the guest star who played Ned? Hint: he looks, acts and sounds like his character from the best Toy Story movie.
A bit of foreshadowing in The New Normal: "So... it's too early to start calling them mom and dad, right? Should I call them Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy?"
So what are your thoughts? Leave them in the comments on this post or send them in as submissions!
EDIT: I just figured out the punny episode title!

“Can you name the twenty legions, their original names, and the Primarchs for me, please? Do you have any info on origins of the names used?”
I mean, certainly. Mortal channeling me regrets that some information is incomplete (pre-Primarch names for the Legiones Astartes are not well publicized; if you know any, feel free to let me know, and I will edit this document accordingly.)
You asked me for all twenty, so Legios II and XI may vary wildly for you, little mortal. The multiverse is a strange place.
Also, note: The mortal and I are not responsible for some of the terribly punny/badly respelled primarch’s names/hackneyed literary references. Those are -entirely- on Games Workshop.... and “The Emperor.” (Use your birth name, Anathaema!)
I. ?/Dark Angels: Lion’El Johnson (ne: Jonson)
For unknown reasons, Johnson is named for the famed English poet Lionel Johnson, Oscar Wilde’s paramour. There have been allegations that the Dark Angels were coded as gay very early on, whether as a joke or a tribute being the question. GW denies, of course, though as a matter of record a gay club called “The Rock” was located in Nottingham at the time.
The Dark Angels originally had a partly Native American theme.
II. Valedictors/Gargoyles: Eresbet, The Grey Lady”
The Valedictors really are named as one of the legions in 2nd edition, as are the Rainbow Warriors. The Rainboe Warriors have subsequently been relisted as a second founding chapter. The Valedictors, however, have not.The word Valedictor means “one who says goodbye.”
III. Emperor’s Children: Fulgrim, “The Phoenician”
IV. ?/Iron Warriors: Perturarbo
Sometimes spelled “Perturabo” in earlier sources. “Perdurabo” is a is a Latin phrase, roughly translated as “enduring to the end.” It was also the occult name of Aleister Crowley.
V. ?/White Scars: Jaghatai Khan
The Khan is now the only known Primarch of the eighteen to have no official miniature. He is quite challenging because, as with Magnus, the original sketches of the Khan are... let’s call them rough.
VI. ?/The Rout (“Space Wolves”): Leman Russ
The Russ were Vikings who intermarried with the inhabitants of what is called “Russia” in your timeline. These later served as mercenaries in the mid-late Eastern Roman/Byzantine Army.
The Varangian Guard/Varangioi were an elite group drawn from Vikings and their descendants. The “Varagyr” terminators are clearly based upon them.
VII. ?/Imperial Fists: Rogal Dorn
VIII. ?/Night Lords: Konrad Curze
Curze is named for Joseph Konrad, who wrote “Heart of Darkness” and that novel’s prime antagonist, Colonel Kurtz.
IX. Revenants/Blood Angels: Sanguinius
X. ?/Iron Hands: Ferrus Manus, “The Gorgon”
Ferrus Manus is bad Latin, erm, “High Gothic.” It roughly translates to “he with the iron hand.”
XI. Dust Raisers/Cu-Sith (“Hounds of Perdition”): Aenon, “The Blind King”
XIII. ?/Ultramarines: Roboute Guilliman
XIV. Dusk Raiders/Death Guard: Mortarion the Reaper
XV. “Thousand Sons”/Thousand Sons: Magnus the Red
The Fifteenth had no formal name before Magnus but were referred to unofficially as “the Thousand Sons” as a reference for their relatively low numbers and unselfish sacrifice. Per canon: Prior to Magnus, they had a sterling reputation for selflessness. Under Magnus, that sort of... changed, as the legion became more insular and less “reliable” as an ally from the perspective of many of the other legions.
XVI. Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus: Horus Lupercal
Lupercal/Lupercalia was an important Roman holiday; the meaning and dates changed over the s centuries, but it was essentially a New Year festival that celebrated the birth of Romulus and Remus and, later, the overthrow of the Etruscan kings of Rome. In Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” Marc Antony references the attempt to have Caesar crowned as king, a staged political maneuver in which he refused the title of king and “accepted” the title “Dictator Perpetuus” (“Ruler for Life”)
“You all did see on Lupercal that I thrice presented him with kingly crown. And thrice doth he refuses. Was this ambition?! And yet Brutus says it was, and sure, he is an honorable man...”
XVII. Imperial Heralds/Word Bearers: Lorgar Aurelian
Aurelian was a Roman emperor, a rather good one, who attempted to create a new state religion dedicated to Sol Invictus, “The Sun, Unconquered.” Sol was at that point conflated with Mithras, who famously slew the black bull of Chaos, and saved the world from a reign of darkness.
We among the Dark Gods fear Mithras, with good reason. How fortunate that the Emperor’s arrogance caused him to be (mostly) forgotten.
XVIII. Dragon Warriors/Salamanders: Vulkan
Vulkan, of course, is the Roman version of Hephaestus, the humane god of the Forge.
Vulkan and his sons, the most humane of the Space Marines were traditionally depicted as predominantly men of color: an important thing for the mun as the young child of a mixed racial background, and I suspect for many non-white gamers. In a revision, GW claimed that the Salamanders were not “black” but -literally- black, as a result of a gene-seed flaw. That didn’t go over well with certain members of the community, but it is not my place to unpack that. Except to say, as someone from the outside, that it was a fairly shitty thing to do (both mun and Malal agree on this point.)
Horus Heresy literature seems to be going back in the direction of an African/Afro-Caribbean origin for the eighteenth. When released, official Vulkan model was painted as a man of color, and many gamers follow suit. Of course, given the current human population distribution, and the likely concentration of any apocalyptic war scenario leading to an Age of Strife and the rise of The Emperor, it seems very likely that a -majority- of Astartes would be men of color.
XIX. Possibly “Emperor’s Talons” or something similar/Raven Guard: Corvus Corax.
Yes. Fairly obvious here.
XX. Twentieth Legion/Alpha Legion: Alpharius Omegon
This is somewhat important as a matter of lore/canon: Only the Emperor seems to have known that (spoiler alert!)Alpharius and Omegon were twins. Valdor probably knew. Of the primarchs, Leman Russ seems to have suspected, and Corax is implied to be at about the same place, but that’s just about it.
Mun: I’ll try to post a bit later on about what little we know about the lost legions. Malal posted about the subject two years ago, but not many seem to have seen it. With his permission, I’ll try to condense the relevant points of official canon and share, if there is interest.
We sincerely thank you for your question, little mortal. Remember that you can send an ask rather than starting a private convo as in this case, but both are perfectly fine!

What title changes would you make to episodes 3-5?
Ah, shoot. I forgot to do that.
Let's see...
Arbormon Peace Treaty for episode 3, Episode four is Ranamon: Lady of Elegance, and episode five is No Grumblemon Allowed for the heck of it. I can't really think up of good, punny episode names sadly...
EDIT: I’m transplanting episode 10′s title onto episode 5, because it just *fits*.

A couple days ago I was thinking about the disconnect between the makers of classic adventure games (the Coles, Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert, etc) who later went on kickstarter cuz they wanted to make more games, and the fans who desperately want more games from them.
And while there's been several crowdfunded games that seem like they've managed to scratch that classic adventure game itch for folks, the disconnect I'm seeing is this:
Game makers want to make new games with new methods in new styles, which is fair!
But fans of classic adventure games crave classic styled adventure games, which I think is also fair.
However that does mean that as much as I want it, I'm never going to get "Quest for Glory 6: You Can Actually Customize Your Hero This Time" because the Coles aren't interested in making the same old same old. (And idk if they've got the rights to the title Quest for Glory anymore or if they've glommed onto HeroU because that's closer to the original title they wanted for the series, Hero's Quest.)
Like I don't have a conclusion here or anything, but it's just interesting to think about how the things that creators find important and are attached to can be so massively different from what the fans get attached to and hold on high as being important.
Like pixelated graphics. VGA style graphics are very dear to me, and I prefer adventure games to look like, say, Quest for Glory 4.
Or a silent protagonist with heavy, pun laden second person pov narration.
That's just kinda my preference because those were the types of games that made a huge impression on me as a kid.
HeroU: Rogue to Redemption kinda failed to capture my focus, in spite of my best attempts, because the protagonist has his own dialog, and because there was this lingering disappointment that I wasn't going to really be able to craft my own hero in the way it felt like you were in QfG (aside from being limited to the physical appearance of a white human male.)
From as far as I got, I could tell that the punny sense of humor was there, and there were loads of call outs to the characters and events in the prior QfG series, but it didn't suck me in. Shaun kept butting against me, he's no blank slate with an ambiguous past.
Also I just kinda hate school narratives, please don't force me to keep up my grades or risk expulsion/game over. Just, don't.
QfG1: So You Want to be a Hero, you're nobody, you have a short explanation of your character's background in the manual but that's pretty much it. You choose your character class and wander into town. From there you're on your own, kid.
I dunno, like I said, I want completely different things from what the actual creators want to make.
It's kind of a Star Wars: Special Edition problem, isn't it? Now that they're unrestrained by a publisher or by technology, adventure game makers can chase their original vision.
But fans didn't know what was in the game maker's heads in the 80's and 90's. Fans only knew what they actually saw, and they liked what they saw.
So, disconnect. Yeah.
That's my pointless ramble for the day, take care.
#quest for glory#kickstarter adventure games#random thoughts#I'm gonna try to beat HeroU:R2R one of these days#but maybe not till after i replay qfg1-5#man it's weird how attached i am to the idea of silent protagonists#like a silent protagonist is just a nice easy way to get invested in a game world idk

BTS : Band+Music Producer AU (OT7)
Summary : 7 different boys from 7 origins became a family.
Band AU (Vocal line)
1.Kim Seokjin
The oldest member of bangtan squad. The main vocal of the band and also the visual.(Well actually everyone is a visual.)
He was a caring brother who came from a rich family. However, they couldn’t accept the fact that he had a band and rufused their son’s dream to become a rock star. They decided to kick him out of the house when they found out that their son got into the underground band competition and fortunately won it. (Shouldn’t they be proud?)Good point,he met Namjoon and Yoongi. They together worked on their band start from the bar.Took a year ot two that made his band became popular in town.
Punny god, every member said.He loved to joke around ; even though,Yoongi would say there were 99% not funny.
This guy was hilarious person yet could be serious if he needed to.
2.Jeon Jungkook
The youngest of all time who grew up as a janitor. His family abandoned him since ever.Namjoon decided to take this kid as his employee after he had a fight with one of his old employee who stole Namjoon’s bar money.
At first,Namjoon has no idea about this boy.It took awhile to know this boy could play guitar and sing.Namjoon convinced Jin to take this boy into his band.Jin didn’t quite sure of that.
One night the main guitar in Jin’s band left all of sudden.Later on they knew the reason. He had debt with drug dealer.Yoongi went with Namjoon to the police station and it didn’t end well that night.
Jungkook was a knight in shinning armor who helped Jin for that.Jin accepted this boy.Jungkook then became an official member and beloved members of bangtan.
3.Park Jimin
A cute boy who played bass for the band. This guy right here also got the title of being chorus for Jin.Dang, his voice was so high.(Higher then my grade of course)
He used to get into a lot of fight.Hot headed Park Jimin was well known even Jhope knew about it.Once this boy nearly smashed the whole arcade.Jhope told him to work in arcade to made it up with destruction.
He was a nice guy though most of the time.It just don’t mess with him and don’t you dare to call him ‘Shorty’.
Hard working, the first quality members would think of.He worked his ass off like he had many debt.In reality,it was because of his brother. This boy adored his brother so much that bad mouth about him one word and you would lifelessly laid on the street.
4.Kim Taehyung
The sassy/blondy guy played drum in the back. This guy wore mask for most of the time so people might not notice.
Like Jungkook,he grew up from the street.Lucky for him that Jin helped the boy and took care like his brother.
Jin let him played in the band as an official member after he graduated and moved out because he saw how talent this boy was.
One day he was practicing with his band and the boy came as always. When they all had a break, this boy played the drum casually.Jin asked have he ever learned it and the boy answer ‘I just watch your member do it everyday.’Basically,he learned things from watching people did it and remembered it.Jin was impressed and boom, another official member.
Music Producers AU (Rap line)
5.Kim Namjoon
This guy was rich af.He was a son of family who ran many businesses. They weren’t pushing him around like Jin’s family. He joined everyone into this band and pushed it to successful point. The band was like a family to him and thanks to his old friend that gave them opportunity.
He owned motorbike shop(one of his family businesses),studio,an underground bar etc.Basically, the famous underground was his estate.
Being the owner of underground area meaned he grew up with underground culture.Everyone would see him rap some night, heard the music blast from his studio, saw him in the bar serving people or even in the subway. All those depended on his mood. However,he aimed to own the subway so that the underground area will turn into tourist attraction and gained more money.
A genius and lovely brother of Jungkook.Jungkook respected him as a brother and close with him the most out of all member.
6.Jung Hoseok
Mr.Jung was well known amoung teens.Well it was obvious sine the guy owned arcade section in one of Namjoon’s building. The one who found Jimin and got Jimin out of old habit by let the boy work for him.
You might never know that this cheerful guy was also a rapper. In day time, you would see him in the arcade with kids. The night time was when he turned his rap mode on and performed with Jin’s band. The band wasn’t only played rock genre,a lot of time they remixed the song that the rap line did and merged it with rock vibe.
Became one of Namjoon friend because of his beloved bike.He always looked around Namjoon shop.As his belated birthday gifted,Namjoon decided to give him 50% discount for Jhope favourite bike.
This guy got some move and performed with his old crew around the subway area.Sadly he didn’t end well with them so he stopped.
7.Min Yoongi
Min PD,Agust D or Suga, those 3 names well known in underground rappers and producers.
He grew up from the subway and that where he met Hoseok.Namjoon who wandered around often noticed his performance and let this guy had a studio like he dreamed off. They once battled in the underground competion. It was a tense battle and got to know Jin along the way.
He produced many songs and got corrupted because of that.He tried to sold the songs before but,it wasn’t a great idea.He sweared he would become successful and now he found his place.
Namjoon gave his some of bar’s share to Yoongi and Jin.Yoongi gained money from the bar because his songs that played in there and also some of the band song which they performed.Yoongi was another one along side with Namjoon who pushed the band up to the point people in town notice them.
Hi everyone, long time no see. Finally I posed something up here.Well I was having a rough time since the exam is ahead.I hope you will enjoy this introduction. The stories will be out later.I didn’t mention this but,in every fictions thanks to the rightful owners of pictures.I edit them up a bit.Anyway, check the others too and hope to see you next pose, bye.

State of the Fics 2019
The WIPS and Dead Ends Edition
So: having recently had a few discussions with some fellow authors and talking about other writers and stuff... here is where I’m going to answer some/most/all of the MOARPLZ requests.
I have 440+ works on A03 and a lot of what I hear is MOARPLZ or “is there going to be any more of this...”
So, I’m kinda going through my list right now and letting you know what my plans are for 2020 and what, if anything, you can count on to see more of, and what is, in fact, truly over. If you don’t see a fic that you love and want to know more about it, feel free to ask me.
Take Note and RSVP - every once in a while, we get asked about this story. This was my first jaunt into the fic world, and it’s unfinished. We lost our Steve writer because of some Fandom Drama (you can blame some stans who accused us of plagiarizing a fic we’d never read who continually attacked us until the stress just made it not worth the effort of finishing.)
Solar Powered Soldiers was my first solo effort. This fic, as far as I’m concerned, pretty much sucks. It was meant to be a Steve/Bucky fic, ended up with the only smut scene as a Nat/Clint piece, and didn’t really have a satisfactory ending. I am not likely to ever go back and fix this.
Steve of Oz was supposed to be mostly smutty foray into exploring Steve as the Avengers Bike. The plan was basically for him to end up having sex with literally everyone, while in a Wizard of Oz setting. Never happened, didn’t get much response to it.
Lost in the Shadows Every once in a while, I get someone who asks me about this AU. Talk about your niche markets! On the other hand, I love me some ShadowRun, so I have not closed down the idea of writing more on this AU...
So, here’s a fun thing: This particular AU is what’s been requested by my Marvel Trumps Hate winner, so, I’ll be writing a dragon-level event story for this, some 27 - 30,000 words. You ready, chummer?
The Communal Kitchen AU We have a few half-complete stories in this series; Vol 3, the Mating Habits of Hero Birds, a vague outline of a Team NuclearWinter side piece, and a couple of smut pieces that never got written. I may yank the sex pollen scene from Vol 3 out and post it as a stand-alone. We’ll see. If there’s interest in any of this, maybe we’ll come back to it. (I am currently re-reading the whole series, because honestly, I write the fic I want to read, and so I re-read my own stuff rather a lot.)
Anything involving Phil Coulson and Clint Barton - while I still ship this couple, and I’ll read stuff about them, I’ve pretty much given up writing them. Between Agents of SHIELD and everything with Clint starting in, say Age of Ultron forward, I just... don’t feel it anymore? Which does include the started and never finished Coulson’s Final Case
Next Thursday Night - huh, I’d honestly forgotten about this fic. maybe i’ll revisit it this year upcoming... somewhere I think I have an outline.
Subject to PunTax - I love puns, and this story is very formulaic. I pick a topic, make up 5-7 puns on the subject, wrap a story around it and tie a bow with a suggestive pick up line. So, I leave this open to continue, the next time I’m feeling Punny.
Bucky Barnes has Kittens - Bucky as the crazy cat lady writer with bad anxiety. I’ve had a lot of people tell me this story has been great for them, dealing with Bucky’s anxiety issues. I do have more story ideas for this ‘verse, including Bucky finding out that Steve is also a writer and dealing with that. Decidedly On the List.
Eight Arms to Hold You - I have a handful of extra stories for these. Some of them went up on Tumblr for tentacletober... generally speaking, any mermaid fic of mine is subject to a continuation because MERMAIDS and OCTOBUCKY
All American Road Trip confession time here: I stopped writing this fic because of some anti-tonys who kept popping in my comments for this fic to rant about Tony Stark in a fic that was NOT ABOUT TONY. I’ve deleted all their comments, but they were nasty, and I stopped wanting to write for people who were being so abusive to Tony (and honestly, that much bile spilling in my comments, I don’t care who it’s about, it makes me sad) Like, they liked the Fic (steve/sam/bucky) but... eeeh, whatevs. I didn’t feel like dealing with it, and I’m not going to.
Also Prey - One of my more popular pieces, I reserve the right to add more to it when I’m in a fluff mood.
Kiss me Through the Phone - I wrote this with @27dragons and I have about... half a plan for a third chapter called Your Dirty Little Secret. So, with some encouragement, that could happen.
The Truth is Who You Are - my BDSM with religious song lyrics fic; this stuff is really emotional for me, and while I do have 2-3 more pieces planned, they take me a while to write and they knock the shit out of me while I’m doing it. There’s a lot of Tony working through his self-hatred that just... it’s deep. So... there will be more, it just... might be Some Time.
The Killer and the Kid - this is literally my most popular piece. I get a MOAR PLZ ask on this at least once a month. I have been saying for a while I’m not planning any more of this, but I did offer it as an incentive for the Marvel Trumps Hate auction. This particular fic will ONLY BE WRITTEN for a charitable donation.
Joyride - I’ve written a couple of addons for this fic loosely titled Bundle of Joy. They’re not quite Done Yet, but when I get there, I’ll be posting that.
Nights in Sandbridge - our most popular series, and I love these boys so much here. We have no major plans to continue, but if something strikes us, we may.
WinterIron Pickup - a short story that spawned a second chapter. I have some ideas for continuing this, but it’s fallen by the wayside as I write other things.
What Good is the Sky - this piece is so angsty, and I keep getting requests to do moar of it. Trust me, you don’t want that, it will END BADLY. and I will cry a LOT.
Off the Menu - I really do have a LOT more of this story in my head. I just don’t know when I’m going to get around to it.
Bucky Barnes Prom CYOA this was SO HARD to format that I just gave up on it. I may come back and redo this as a few “completed” stories?
Phoning it In - I do, in fact, have a few more of this AU in mind, I just lost a bit of the shiny after an amazing fucking against the sofa smut scene. So, there might be more of this in your future (also I kept expecting it to win March Madness, so I-- didn’t get back ‘round to it?)
A Poor Reflection - never got finished. Not sure why, I had the whole damn thing plotted out. Where is my outline??
The Enhancile War Series - mostly to play with the trope of naked girl in a box, this series originally had four plotted stories, but we just could NOT get the fourth story to GO anywhere, even pushing on it really, really hard.
Any Old Music Will Do - I have a plot outline for this one, with Bucky and Tony forming the core of the Defenders, along with Luke and Jessica, but I don’t know what I did with it... anyway, there’s more ideas here. a bit.
Indispensable we had a plot idea for a sequel and I actually think we wrote about 15000 words or so on it, but-- meh, it ended up not being very interesting. If we come up with some actual plot, then maybe?
Park(s) and Wreck(ed) - I have some more ideas for this as Tony and Bucky get their sexy on all over the office.
Stark, Naked - we did, in fact, do a sequel to this, which was rather short, but well-received. Not much ideas here for anything else, but we like this version of them, so if we get good prompts, we might be tempted to take up the reigns again.
Land After Time - We get a LOT of requests for Moar of this. If we had ANY FUCKING CLUE what was going on, we might. but we really, really don’t
We Can’t Eat That (It’s Dead) - I actually have an entire plot for this, on who the dead guy is and what happened... I could be encouraged.
Forever Home - we wrote a full length sequel to this, but weirdly enough, it WASN’T the original sequel we’d sort of talked about. which means there’s potentially a third story here... (maybe a 4th one, too)
Excuse me, I think You Have My Suitcase - the further adventures of Tony and Bucky in lacy underthings. Yes. The next time I feel like PWP, I plan to revisit.
Dead to Rights - I still really like this idea... I just didn’t get as much traction from the Umbrella Academy fandom as I would have liked. Probably because most of my writer friends are Not Into It, which doesn’t give me many people to bounce ideas off
New York: Become Human - there’s a LOT more story here to tell... maybe we’ll tell it.
Rejoice in the Sun - I started writing this fairly soon after Endgame, when I had a lot of feels, but between the absolute outpouring of hatred about that movie from the fandom. seriously, y’all were going all Annie Wilkes up in the house to the point that I put Endgame back on BLACKLIST to get away from the seething bile... it got really hard to enjoy post endgame content, and I got sick, too, so... that didn’t help any.
Once a Knight - Witch Bucky and Knight Tony... we have some more plot for this...
No Job Too Small - I think I even have another chapter of this WRITTEN. And some more plotted out. Tony and tiny children. What could go wrong?
(D)rift Away - Bigger Better Bugspray... what happens when the Rifters come back? There might be more of this, once I work out some plot. And honestly, stop getting distracted by the damn @heamarvel prompts.
The Door into Winter - I have a whole story for this, still working on it
Learning to Work Together (Good Omens) - we have some more feels for this, so possibly, if we can put plot together.
Pretty much everything else i’m posting in progress is still going strong, Blueberries, Hell Charger, Can’t Help you Fix Yourself, Reclamation, Draco Malfoy and the Rune... and I have a couple of other collabs with other people that are... bogged down with details right now.
We’ve got a couple of stories headed your way from the Marvel HEA Hallmark challenge, including what may well be my new favorite: Buck Barnes Got Married. We also wrote a Cyber Punk AU with companion Tony as an excuse to dress Tony up in skimpy outfits.
So, that’s like the general status of Old Fic... and having ideas is not the same as finding the time to sit down and WRITE them, especially since New Ideas are attacking me at the same time, honestly.

Top 10 2019
For the past couple of years I’ve been doing a top 10 list for the year in music that I like. This includes an a category for my favorite LP and EP from the year as well as a top 10 songs. I’ve also decided this year that I will be talking about other honorable mentions that are wonderful but did not make the list and some artists that had incredible years.
Let’s start with this years music for me, which was incredible. As many know I actually released a song in November on all streaming platforms. Something I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time and is super surreal to see happen. Makes me so happy to have accomplished that, thanks to everyone who has listened. Here’s a link if you haven’t yet and would like to listen!
It’s no shocker to people that know me that I am dumb passionate about dance music so as expected most of the list is just that. It was also a great year for pop music too though so there’s some pop in here as well. You can find a playlist of the top songs, as well as Lightwave here. I’ve also gone ahead and linked all the songs and albums mentioned below.
LP of the Year
Hi This Is Flume - Flume
Wow this one was wild. Most people kinda expected there to be some new Flume coming, it had been a while since we got any and there had been a ton of rumors. But he really shocked everyone when he announced randomly that he was releasing an entire mixtape the next day. It’s 17 songs and an incredible experience from front to back, with each song flowing into the next one. Not only was there a ton of new music but he also released a large visualizer to go along with it. The visualizer and music together really made it what it is. The visualizer largely consists of Harley, aka Flume, walking through various environments or driving a custom car through the desert. There’s some trippy stuff happening with editing and some really weird visual effects. One of my favorite parts of the video is at the end where he walks up to the ocean and the water cuts vertically, looking like an amazing wall of water. Looks so surreal, which kind of describes the albums sound in a nutshell. The entire album is a journey through sound design and it really challenges the listener to question what is expected in music. Flume’s signature style lends itself very well to such ideas with the choppiness that he so often employs. He mixes a wide variety of styles into the mixtape, from more traditional future bass like Wormhole and Spring and hip hop such as High Beams. A majority of the album is instrumental, letting the production and accompanying visuals do most of the storytelling. However, there are still some vocal features such as JPEGMAFIA and of course Kucka. The album also includes features from two incredible producers, Sophie and Eprom, both of which were very big surprises to me. Every song on the album has a specific place and together the full picture is created, listening to this album front to back is truly inspiring. When I did my first listen through I was blown away and taken to what felt like another world, which is why I’m choosing Hi This Is Flume over any of the other great albums that came out this year.
Some other incredible albums from this year deserve recognition as well:
Good Faith - Madeon
This one was absolutely in 2nd place and the only reason it isn’t in first place is because there’s a song or two I wasn’t particularly fond of. While I don’t think Good Faith is as good as Madeon’s debut album Adventure it certainly has an amazing cohesiveness and style to it that sets it apart. Good Faith has a much more organic sound, utilizing a lot of choir vocals and instruments. Starting with Dream Dream Dream the album cues you into the experience you are about to embark on, instantly setting the mood with almost ethereal vocal sounds that are followed by some truly inspiring lyrics. Hugo (Madeon’s real name) has a true knack for creating heartwarming and bittersweet lyrics, evoking incredible amounts of emotion from the listener. But not all the songs are somber of course, many are celebratory as well, like No Fear No More for instance. My favorite song on this album is Mania but you’ll read more about that one later. If you only want to listen to one of the albums of this list, I’d say go with Good Faith. Even though it didn’t take my top spot I feel that it’s the type of music that absolutely anyone can get into. Hi This Is Flume has many tracks that are more experimental in nature and isn’t for everyone, but Good Faith sets itself apart in a way that anyone can vibe with.
Ascend - Illenium
I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this one tbh. Some Illenium songs just don’t do anything for me in all honesty, and his last album I didn’t think was very good other than a few singles. This one was way different though. It really took me by surprise, and while there are a few songs I don’t think are good, the vast majority if the album was fantastic. My favorites being That’s Why, Gorgeous, and Lonely. But the songs on this album that aren’t good are very much songs I don’t care to listen to again, which is why I decided against it for LP of the Year. Compared to the cohesive narrative in Hi This Is Flume this album just lacks some substance. There’s a lot of fantastic music throughout Ascend but, with exception of a few songs, it doesn’t feel like each of these songs is necessarily integral to the experience, they just happened to all be put in the same album. It also doesn’t help that there were like 5 singles.
Wild Youth - Dabin
Speaking of albums with too many singles. This album is on the list not because I thought it was good, but actually because this was the most disappointing album of the year. It’s 10 songs total, but there were 4 singles released and 2 of the songs were previously released in an EP in 2018. I’m just gonna come out and say this, if you release a majority of your album before the album comes out, then it isn’t an album it’s a collection of singles. There were some great songs on the album including my favorite Dabin song Lights as well as some other wonderful songs like Another Day and Youth. But again, the issue with this album is not the music itself, it’s the way the songs involve interact with each other. And simply put, they don’t. You can’t release 6 of 10 songs on your album and make something cohesive. I really enjoy listening to several of these songs by themselves but they’re just singles to me.
High Highs to Low Lows - Lolo Zouai
Best pop album of the year for sure, although Kim Petras gives it a very good run for its money. The lyricism by Lolo is amazing in this album. It’s so punny and has fantastic flow. Even the album’s title is a pun, how can you not like it. There’s so many good songs like Caffeine, Moi, and Out the Bottle. Anyone that enjoys pop music and RnB should love this album.
Clarity - Kim Petras
The other pop album this year that blew me away. This is quintessential pop music for 2019, with a lot of clear dance music inspiration from songs like Icy and Got My Number. Also, while you don’t necessarily have to like her music because of this, Kim Petras is trans and I have an incredible amount of respect for her to make it in the industry. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for her to get to where she is now with the way many higher ups in the music industry are.
Good At Falling - The Japanese House
This album is just really cute. The vocalist has a wonderful voice and the lyrics flow very well. There’s a lot of great songs, including my personal favorite Worms. If you like indie music give this one a listen for sure.
Fubar - Tsuruda
These tracks are insane, best bass music album of the year hands down. Please listen.
III - Banks
When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - Billie Eilish
Renegades of Light - LSDREAM
We Are Dust - Xilent
EP of the Year
Dawn - SG Lewis
There were also some great EPs this year, with this one at the top in my opinion. Every single song on this EP is absolutely incredible. SG Lewis shows his attention to detail with every piece of production, starting with Blue, which captures the listeners attention from the second the bass comes in. Emotions flow like water throughout the album, morphing from song to song seamlessly. SG has a very unique sound to him, it’s vibey and both uptempo but somber at the same time. But more than just his production make this EP incredible, the vocals are all impeccable. With vocal performances from SG Lewis himself as well as Clairo and Honne, 5 of the 6 songs on this EP have a vocal, and each one stands out just as much as the last. The type of energy within this EP is so unique, the only way I can describe it is infectious.
Dawn had a lot of competition this year including the following stand out EPs:
Tangential Zones - G Jones
It’s not even remotely a secret that I am an enormous G Jones fan. But part of the reason for that is that all of his music is so damn good. This EP consists of a bunch of tracks he’s been playing in his live show for the last year, I’ve had to privilege of hearing some of these live previously and I thought they were good then but the studio versions of those tracks are even more incredible. Gregg is so good at making simple ideas fill an entire song, and he does it with such mastery. He’s truly one of the best producers of our time and he compliments it with incredible vision for everything he does.
Turn Off The Lights - Dog Blood
Skrillex and Boys Noize are back with some more techno inspired bangers. All 4 songs on this EP are insane, and so are the features, from Otira to X&G. To me, the songs Break Law and Kokoe stand out the most, but there isn’t a song on here that I dislike.
Acid 444 - i_o
This year I got into techno really hard. There were some stand out projects of course, Acid 444 being the most recent one to hit the spot. Replicate didn’t make my top 10 list but only by a very small amount. And System Error evokes some great vibes. These songs really inspired me and I actually started working on a Bladerunner styled techno song as a result.
Dead Sea EP - Eliminate
I always think I’m not going to like the stuff Eliminate releases very much and I don’t know why. But every single time I do that he releases something that just destroys me. Not going to be making that mistake again. There’s some interesting musical elements in these songs, such as the dissonance in Stupid. There’s another particular track on this EP that I really like but you’ll read more about that one later.
Night is Short - Otira
It was a huge year for Otira / Raito. Between his 2 projects he released like 6 EPs and had features on tracks by i_o, Dog Blood, and more. But this EP of his stood out to me the most with some great rave and techno tracks. But to me the thing about this EP that stands out to me the most is the album art. It’s very easily my favorite album art for the entire year. It just draws me in so much, I can’t fully describe why but I’m in love with it.
Save Yourself EP - Virtual Riot
The best producer in dubstep is back with 8 more bangers. I never tire of listening to Virtual Riot, he just kills it every time.
Experiments in Acid Research - Glacci
Change & Decay - Blanke
Divide - Shadient
Songs of the Year
And now for my favorite songs of the year
1. Mania - Madeon
This was the song off of Good Faith that grabbed me the most. It mixes his Adventure era electrohouse sound with the Good Faith style in an absolutely incredible way. However this song was initially a little further down the list. Once I saw Good Faith Live I had to move it up, seeing this song live was such an insane experience. Madeon played an extended version of this song with some modified instrumentation and it was easily my favorite part of the show. The experience of seeing Mania live pushed it up my list to the top spot. Hugo did a wonderful job on this track and I’m so happy to be able to listen to it.
2. Dark Artifact - G Jones
Ethereal arpeggiated synth melodies and high energy trap drums with a lot of bass. What’s there not to like?
3. Caffeine - Lolo Zouai
My favorite pop song of the year. The use of foley in this song is insane. All the drums are laced with recorded sounds of soda bottles and cans being opened and I just love it. So unique, and the lyrics are so well crafted. I almost lost it the first time I realized “French Vanilla dripping in your cup” was a pun I almost lost it because there’s so much depth involved in that line it’s wild. In addition to all of these really unique elements the song is also a bop.
4. Everything - Eliminate
My favorite song off of this EP. This song is so catchy, but more than anything its drum and bass!!!!! It makes me so happy that dnb is catching on in the US. The genre is so explosive and there’s a ton of good stuff out there. I really like Eliminates take on the genre with this song, giving it an almost pop-like vibe while still making it a banger.
5. Lazer Vision - Zeke Beats, The Glitch Mob
From a technical standpoint this song is crazy. The mixing in the track stands out a lot to me, especially with the percussion. It’s also just a cool song. I’m really glad that The Glitch Mob is doing collabs with newer up and coming artists and I hope we get more songs of this quality from the project.
6. Icy - Kim Petras
This song is so catchy, it gets stuck in my head all the time. I love how the production is like bass house turned pop music, super cool style I wouldn’t have expected but I really love. And those hi hat trills, damn. She snapped.
7. Dream Fatigue - G Jones
Another G Jones track on this list but this song is just so cool. Sampling the pacman dying sound and making a trap song is such an amazing idea. And who else but Gregg to pull it off so perfectly.
8. Abberate - Shadient
What the fuck is synth design? This song makes me question my entire life because I never imagined that something could just... sound like that. I don’t know how to describe it but listening to this song for the first time had me so lost. The second drop is full of so many unique synths. I still can’t get over it. Shadient is one of the best bass music producers for sure, can’t wait for that album he’s been talking about next year. And he needs to release that song with the silent hills vibe.
9. Night Is Short - Otira
I already talked about this one a little but hard rave music never felt so good. My friend always says “this song is what people who don’t listen to dance music thinks it sounds like” and he couldn’t be more correct. Song is crazy, when the lead synth goes up an octave and the hi-hat comes in, I go crazy every time.
10. Radial - ISOxo, Knock2
RL Grime’s label Sable Valley is on a roll. With songs like Ambush , House of God, and Arcus and more stuff to come it’s just wild. This song in particular is so much fun. I especially live the dnb breakdown in the second drop. Can’t wait for more from both of these producers and from Sable Valley.
Some other great singles from this year in no particular order:
All the Time - Zara Larsson
Ambush - Cozway, Jon Casey
Overdose - SG Lewis
Drowning - Kucka
Midnight Hour - Skrillex, Boys Noize
Mumbai Power - Skrillex
Moi - Lolo Zouai
Rushing Back - Flume, Vera Blue
Me ++ You - Myrne
Let Me Take You - Whethan, Jeremih
Love Me - Felix Cartal, Lights
Ultramarine - Quiet Bison
Get Through - Rameses B
Soundboy Burnin’ - Otira
Death & Desire - Knife Party

11/11/11 meme

I'm going to treat most of these as if they're asking about my own writing and not my reading? Unless specifically mentions reading.
Favorite OC to Write? I don't really write OCs as such. I think one could argue writing Addam Marbrand KINDA counts. But by strict parameters of OC ... I think the only one I've written with any amount of dialogue is Joanne in the epilogue of a love (a lantern in the dark). I do like the kid.
Dialogue or descriptions? Literally, anything except dialogue. I think I suck at dialogue. Or if not suck, I don't think I'm very good at dialogue. Then again, I'm not great at carrying on a conversation myself, so probably that's why.
Favorite plot twist? SPOILER FOR waiting for be consumed by you: People seemed very surprised that I made Brienne a vampire (or at least so early). I'm not sure this came across completely within the text of the fic (things that could be addressed if I wasn't so constantly in need of attention and reassurance and therefore wrote the entire thing before posting), but it was intended to be the same/analogous to Jaime losing his hand in canon. It completely shifted Brienne's self-concept and she had to start looking at the world as more than just good and evil, black and white. Also, the boning. I wanted to get to vampire boning.
Favorite cliche? To read: arranged marriage or fake dating. To write: literally any amount of I've Been Pining For My Best Friend For So Long I Might Die.
Favorite season? Autumn. You get to be cozy, but not freezing. And the leaves are pretty. And things smell good. Or winter. But I can't deal with heat and I don't understand wanting to touch another person when it gets above a certain temperature. (Are there monsters that can actually go to sleep cuddling? Teach me your secrets.)
Writing by hand or on computer/phone? 95% of the time by computer. My brain whirs too quickly for me to write by hand. I get tripped up and try to self-edit or just can't get enough of the words written by hand. Phone is also difficult because I always write in Times New Roman 8 (sometimes 9, depending on the screen resolution) and it gets unwieldy trying to do it on the phone. I'm crazy, so the wrong font and font size throws off my entire ability to do anything.
Music while writing? Sometimes. I made a post about it earlier, but I didn't really listen to music while writing 'lantern' or 'waiting', but I have been known to put on Avril Lavigne's 'Hot' on repeat while writing 'We Make the Rules'. This is because it is the song I listened to on repeat when I first wrote a romcom when I was 18 and something about it triggers some lizard brain, "You can do this. YOU CAN BE CUTE, DAMMIT!" response.
Weirdest thing you've ever been inspired by? I was so violently angry about the idea of Brienne being pregnant in canon that I immediately wrote a fic where she was pregnant in the canon timeline up to 8x04. So, that made sense. >.>
Does being inspired by the mere idea of Brienne in a white tank top resulting in a Twister AU plot idea count as weird? I don't think so. Who doesn't want to think about Brienne in a soaking white tank top?
Biggest no-no for a book? What will immediately make you put the book down if you see it? First person POV. It HAS to come to me recommended for me to do it. I'm becoming less and less interesting in my later years, and I simply don't like 1st person as a general rule.
However, my one hard no is no 2nd person, even recommended. Nah thanks.
What titles grab your attention in bookstores? Honestly? I read romance novels pretty exclusively. So, a REALLY FUNNY PUN. I love punny romance titles. A Rogue by Any Other Name. I Kissed an Earl. Like, yes, give, give more.
Can you describe the color purple in one sentence? The color of a bruise only a few days old, the dark places that aren't quite black, but haven't faded to the red tinge of healing.

On my Heart Draft Two: Complete
IT’S DONE!!! The second draft of On my Heart is finally complete! Confession: I actually finished it last night, but it was pretty late so I didn’t want to make a post about it right away. But ah, man, I’m so happy to have draft two completed, and am extremely excited both to go through and edit the draft and to finally, finally start After Eden. (Real talk: It’s been a while since I’ve been so legitimately excited to work on my stories without it being tinged with anxiety, so I think it’s a safe sign that I might finally be past the burnout I’ve been dealing with for the past few years.)
For On my Heart, the plan is basically to do a read through just to take stock of what I have, then do a line-by-line edit to try and fix as many things as possible. There’s a lot of stuff I like in draft two, but also a lot that needs to be fixed and rearranged, so I’m going to try and get as much of that fixed as possible before I begin draft three. Once I actually start working on the third draft, I’ll probably start posting little tidbits like I did during the writing of draft two. Which leads to...
Cut Scenes Concepts
Yeah, yeah, it’s not as punny, but I couldn’t really think of a better title, to be honest. On my Heart is a project that I’ve been working on for a while, and I was really only able to seriously get back into working on it a little over a year ago. Because of this, there are a lot of concepts, characters, and plot points that ended up cut. I thought it might be interesting to share some of those ideas as I go through draft three. (Like with draft two, I’ll be posting a new concept after every five chapters.)
Worldbuilding
In the meantime, though, I’ll probably be posting some more worldbuilding posts! I have a couple in mind that I know I want to do (Politics, a map of East America, and Anti-magic Weaponry), but if there’s anything anyone wants to see in particular, let me know?
So, yeah! Feels really good to have this done, and I’m excited for the stuff that’s coming up.
Tag List: @siarven, @focusdumbass, @paladin-andric, @onedayiwillfind, @muggle-writes--if anyone wants to be added to/removed from the tag list, please let me know!
#on my heart#writeblr#my writing#guys i'm so excited#like...i legitimately didn't expect to be this excited/happy about finishing the second draft#or about the editing process going forward#but it's nice
