Extrasensorial Powers - an introduction
by Dr. Kitagawa Chie
Tumblr media
Extrasensorial powers, shortened as ESP, are abilities that require not the use of the five senses, but rather that of the mind, while interfering with the physical world in a direct recognizable form. These abilities include telepathy, intuition, mediumship, energy manipulation, pyrokinesis and much more. Those who possess any kind of ESP are commonly refered as espers.
Mechanism
ESP exists because of a connection between the psychic nucleus - a cluster of energy¹ that surrounds the cerebrum and which many theorize to be 'part of the soul' - and the nervous system. This allows this energy to be manipulated by the individual, conscious or unconsciously, and creates the esper sixth sense - essential for feeling and interpreting psychic signals. All human beings have some degree of psychic sensibility, but only espers can feel any type of paranormal presence and signal, even more those emitted by other espers.
Because this connection is stronger near the prefrontal cortex, the section of the brain related to personality and behavior, the way a person's ESP works can be highly influenced by their emotional state. That is also the reason why different espers have an affinity for different techniques.
Nucleus-brain connection also depends on many factors, such as genetics, brain structure and chemistry, stress and external influence. It develops slowly, being able to start as soon as 8 weeks before birth, and culminates on the first manifestation of ESP: the awakening, normally triggered by emotional stymuli.
Auras
Most of time, ESP is contained close to the body and circulates all around it, making a condensed structure named aura. Auras weave themselves in an immensurable variety of colors, patterns and 'feelings', making them the psychic version of fingerprints.
When under a command or a strong emotional state, auras can expand to a distance proportional to the esper's amount of energy. This happens because the brain signals generate a bigger ESP flow, forcing the aura to increase its volume to keep a stable pressure. Aura expansion has many uses, like increasing perception and action area, but mainly occurs as a consequence of flaring (sudden ESP activation). In spite of their tendency to stay stable, espers can control part of their aura flow, waves, shape and properties at will.
They also are a significant element of esper-exclusive interaction. Users may manipulate their auras for communication and to show their position. Espers who are close to each other can learn to recognize subtle changes on the other's aura when under a particular emotional state.
Usages
There are countless ways to use one's ESP, and they can influence matter, energy or even both. Most espers practice their powers for years before finding methods that are more convenient for their particular energy amount and aura properties. While the majority of espers possess the same limitations (such as being unable to multitask), its possible to overcome many limits through effort. Overall, its important to learn about how one's powers work in order to make their usage safer for them and for the people around them.
¹ - the application of 'energy' in this context is still ambiguous, yet is accepted in a physical sense.

sometimes, she would wonder what she was supposed to do now.
how she would go through every day with the knowledge that the boy sat a few seats away from her had assisted in the killing of her boyfriend.
how she would wake up everyday and be one of the only people in this god forsaken town that knew the truth about both sides.
how she had to live in this stupid divide that had kept the people of tulsa apart for so many years.
socs annoyed her, she couldn’t stand to stare at a greaser for too long without that sick feeling crawling up her throat and pouring out of her in humiliating waves. the drive in made her shiver and the movie house felt dimensions away. school was hell, her house even worse.
cherry was sick of this town.
tulsa was killing her from the inside out.

headcanons for kobd just hanging in the Nemesis?
Oh yippie:3 more guys being dudes❤️
They have unofficial movie nights together. Old 80s stuff they find online. Breakdown doesn’t really get them and Knock Out only pretends to understand them, but they both still like them. In truth, Knock Out loves the aesthetics from the fashion to the cars. Breakdown is a big fan of the overblown action sequences and flashy violence. Both of them think the human interactions are the worst parts of the movies and think they are boring and while they don’t understand all the romantic elements, they both kind of enjoy those moments too. They talk over most of the movie anyways, so all of that is not really a big deal.
Oh! They also love watching nascar and f1 races. Knock Out talks big game about how he’d win those races if he could only enter. All he’d need was a fleshie to sit in the driver’s seat while he does all the work. Breakdown only encourages this notion and they like scheming up ways to get Knock Out in one of the circuits.
I think a lot of the down time on the Nemesis, they are just hanging in each other’s bunks. I’m kind of partial to the idea of Megatron having a No Fraternization policy (not for any other reason other than the Decepticons are dysfunctional enough, he didn’t need anymore social drama than there already is) so Knock Out and Breakdown have separate bunks. It doesn’t matter anyway because Breakdown “sneaks” (it’s not sneaking, everyone knows) down into the medic quarters and sleeps there. Knock Out is a regular visitor of the vehicon barracks where Breakdown has a tiny private officer’s hab/work station. He occasionally uses it for desk time while commander of the vehicons and Knock Out likes to perch himself on Breakdown’s desk while he reads through reports. Breakdown doesn’t mind at all. Work is easy when he can tune into Knock Out Radio and listen to his partner ramble. The vehicons also don’t mind Knock Out there. The doctor is much nicer when he is with their commander and doesn’t snitch of they bring back earth paraphernalia after their missions (as long as they share).
Sometimes, when they are unable to groundbridge and take joyrides, they sneak out onto the flight deck and just look at the stars and talk. They never really say anything of importance, just kind of talking about whatever, but these quite moments mean everything to them. They don’t have to focus on the war or survival or really anything else but each other.

July 23: Parent’s Day
Ludwig hadn’t fully trusted Luigi even after he married his father- at least until the Incident.
In fact, even though it was likely one of the few times he was scared after… after, Luigi proved himself to actually give a damn (as Roy put it) about the Koopalings.
Don’t get him wrong- the time he spent with all of them before ‘that’ had been appreciated but…
Ludwig needed proof- something that guaranteed him that Luigi had their best interest.
And after he has? After having the patience and genuine kindness to bring him out of such a vulnerable situation?
Well, it was easy to let himself be dragged into a Group Meeting- especially knowing what day it’s going to be.
Lemmy didn’t have much of an opinion on Luigi before his dad married him. It’s no secret that most of the other Koopalings thought the same.
But even in the few times he had met him, Lemmy saw him as he appeared- a soft-hearted scaredy cat who ran more than fought.
If Lemmy wasn’t there for the few fights the human did do, he wouldn’t have believed him capable of even winning them.
But after his dad’s marriage?
He started see Luigi to be more than that. Heck, in the days he took the time to spend with them individually, Lemmy also learned that the human was braver than most, and has been for quite awhile if the stories about King Boo are to be believed.
AND he’s pretty cool- sometimes even surprising him with moments of mischief (like letting him sneak cookies out of the kitchen) or impressive feats of agility (like pirouetting off the castle wall and landing catlike on his feet in a game of tag).
It was one of many reasons that Lemmy chipped into Operation Date Night- something that Junior plans to coordinate on the same day as Parent’s Day.
Roy considered Luigi to be pretty strong, mostly after he married his old man.
He’s strong enough to carry Morton like he was a baby, which even Roy himself could struggle with.
He’s strong enough to tug Bowser around, and to do so with a not-so-light Junior piggybacking him.
And, weirdly, Luigi was strong enough to bring the Koopalings together in the midst of a disagreement.
Which seems to be what they need now, considering the arguing that has broken out over where the date will be.
He hopes to Grambi that Luigi will unconsciously lend him his strength because getting through this is hard enough.
Iggy would never have thought that a Mario Brother would ever understand the intricacies of mechanical engineering…
But then Luigi decided to turn that notion on its head by not only showing his understanding of it with the construction of his own Kart and the days they spent together in the lab, one-on-one.
However, even he could see that it will be empirically impossible to expect Luigi to spend ever waking day with him just to fine-tune his inventions- never mind the others.
And considering that they were originally going to invite the laws of gravity to a vacation by having a table set up at a volcanic edge.
Seriously, he specializes in mechanics, but his dabbling into human biology was enough to have him join yet another argument.
Wendy knew how tough it was to be the only girl in a large family of boys.
With the possibility of getting another girl in the family, she was all for having Peach as a Mama.
But… daddy didn’t end up with her, and while Wendy wanted another female to bond with, even she knew that Luigi had more love for them in his pinky finger than Peach did as a whole.
For her, it seemed like she would have to just deal with it.
And then she discovered Luigi’s interest in fashion- specifically in dresses.
It was a wonderful day when she found out. That Luigi would reveal his tastes during a particularly hot morning, one that was unremarkable… if not for the shared surprise of the Royal Family as Luigi popped into the Dining Hall with a fashionably airy dress.
It was an opportunity she didn’t let herself miss and had spent the rest of that day practically glued to his side as she discussed (not info dumped) about everything fashion with him.
So, when ‘someone’ (Roy) had the audacity to suggest setting the Date at a wrestling ring, she had disagreed for Luigi’s sake- especially when she knew that he found the concept of trying to relax in a place meant for fighting to be absolutely eye-watering.
Morton knew some things. Morton knew that his dad loved him and his siblings very much. Morton also knew his dad was dead set on getting them a mama because of it.
And it was a pleasant surprise when it was Luigi instead of Peach.
Despite his dad’s best efforts, Morton knew long before that Peach didn’t love them like a mom would- that she didn’t look at them in the way he’s seen mamas do whenever he ventured outside the castle.
But Mama Luigi did! He liked spending time with Morton and Junior and Wendy and everyone else! He looked at them warm-like and smiled at them in a way that Peach never did!
And Morton was very happy when his dad married Luigi! It meant that Morton and his siblings got to spend time with someone who gave them warm looks and spoiled them even more rotten.
It meant that none of them will have to be mama-less.
So, that was why Morton did not hesitate to offer to handle the set up of the table- with Wendy’s help, of course!
Larry usually had three things he worried about in his life: his hair, his status as the second youngest kid, and his father’s love life.
He didn’t intend to add Luigi’s safety to the list, but what can he do- other than have him live in a layer of bubble wrap?
Even going down the aisle, Larry knew that Luigi was clumsy, maybe detrimentally so. It also meant that every Koopaling had save him from face-planting at least once.
It was ridiculous enough to be met with some humor, but Larry would have said that the situation definitely needed something to lighten up the mood after the bickering.
At this rate, he’s just glad that there is a plan they can stick with.
Junior had always wanted a mom.
It seemed logical to think of Peach as his future mom with his dad liking her.
But… even years chasing after her, and the small moments where he did spend time with her, his dad never seemed to be truly happy.
And then he met Luigi.
Well, yeah, they already met before in battles, but that never counted.
Anyways, having Luigi as his mama had been a dream come true! Heck, he ended up being a great mama to him and the other Koopalings and a loving husband for his dad!
It was everything he wanted and needed, and…
He sort of felt like he hasn’t given much appreciation for it (though his siblings say otherwise).
So, while Operation Date Night had been rocky, and filled with shouting and brattiness, Junior was confidant that this plan will work!
(Later, it was a miracle of life for the Royal Couple to find a fancy dining table underneath their favorite tree in the garden.)

Naminé & Roxas Are Twins
(this meta was inspired by @violethowler's Constructing Kingdoms series on YT)
In KH2, the relationship between Sora & Roxas is seemingly paralleled with that of Naminé & Kairi. It is explained by characters in-game that Naminé, a Nobody, must have been created by Kairi's presence in Sora's Heart during KH1. Thusly is it concluded that Naminé must be the Nobody of Kairi, another facet of that Princess of Heart.
Except... Kairi is a Princess of Heart: a being of pure light, without any Darkness of her own. It is physically impossible for Naminé to be Kairi's Nobody.
At no point has Kairi exhibited the capacity to hold Darkness. Kairi's lack of Darkness is, arguably, one of the major reasons for her lack of combat prowess: without "darkness" of her own, Kairi is unable to feel the selfishness needed to hurt others. This is a small, fundamental kind of Darkness that all living things carry: without it, a Princess of Heart is all too essily incapacitated by selflessness.
Naminé isn't (can't) be Kairi's Nobody: she, like Roxas, is a Nobody of Sora & Ventus. Naminé and Roxas are twins.
Roxas and Naminé are unlike any other Nobody within the KH setting: they alone were capable of developing "selfhood", independently from their Hearts of origin. This is due to the many unique circumstances of their birth: Sora's self-sacrifice in KH1. That event featured multiple oddities likely to affect Sora's Heart, Heartless & the Nobodies created: self-sacrifice (love); heartlessness via keyblade; the specific keyblade used (the Keyblade of [People's] Hearts); the origin of said keyblade (Riku the ???, the person Sora likely loved most at the time); the presence of Kairi, a Princess of Heart, within Sora's Heart; the presence of Ventus, an artificial "Princess of Heart"; the location of the sacrifice (Ansem's Lab in Hollow Bastion, a World fallen to Darkness)... and likely even more factors, known & as yet unaddressed.
As twin Nobodies to Sora's Heartless, Roxas & Naminé were affected by all variables noted above. Sora has been the Host of several Hearts for his entire life: that makes him special, even before Riku chose Sora to be a keyblade wielder. I venture that the Heart most relevant to Naminé's birth was not Kairi's but Ven's: for where Roxas most resembles Sora in disposition, Naminé resembles Ventus-without-Vanitas. Kairi's presence within Sora's Heart had effects, yes, but less than perhaps understood.
The misunderstanding, I argue, comes largely from Kairi's longterm role of "Designated Female": as the lone KH-original female for much of KH's early development (& popularity), Kairi is often considered a "default option" with regards to all things feminine. This feeds not only into assumptions of a Kairi-focused love triangle but also into an overinflation of Kairi's presence in the story.
As with Xion, Naminé's true identity is obscured, in-game & within fandom, by her gender: "Xion & Naminé are female; the only female in proximity to this plotline is Kairi: Xion & Naminé must therefors be derivative personas of Kairi".
Here, as always, Kairi serves as a convenient "default" of femininity, misdirecting players and characters from the queer potential within KH. It is wholly believed, by Sora & the girls in question, that Naminé was Kairi's Nobody. Yet, it is never Kairi whose story and character is most expanded by Naminé's involvement: Naminé's story is, instead, a follow-up to that of BBS's Ventus.
Kairi struggles with a forgotten past, loss & a resistance to change (of "growing up"). Naminé, in parallel & in contrast, experiences the kind of life that Kairi has forgotten: [medical abuse], extortion & isolation. Naminé's time with Organization XIII & with DiZ mirrors that of VEN's with Master Xehanort (&, to a lesser degree, with Master Eraqus).
Kairi's history as a test subject of Xehanort &, possibly, of Ansem the Wise? She's forgotten it and, outside of Melody of Memories, we never get to see how it affected her.  Kairi's Ambiguously Traumatic Past is only ever used for her in her role as "MacGuffin" (i.e. an object of plot importance & no other story-relevant function, one that is ultimately interchangeable with). Kairi's story barely affects Naminé's & Naminé's doesn't affect Kairi's either: the characters most changed by Naminé's character arc were Sora & Riku. This further alludes to Naminé not truly originating from Kairi's Darkness but from Sora-Ven.
The duality of Sora-Ven is reflected in Sora's producing two distinct ("twin") Nobodies during KH1. Roxas is most reflective of Sora but physically looks like Ventus; Naminé is most reminiscent of Ventus-without-Vanitas but (allegedly) "looks like Kairi": this does not occur in the Nobodies of other hybrid-beings, as evident in Xemnas (Terra & Xehanort) & Xigbar (Braig & Luxu). In this way, Naminé & Roxas are more akin to Xion than most every other Nobody.
Ignoring the gender binaries (canonically used & assumed in-universe), the characters that Naminé actually resembles are Ventus (who I propose as Naminé's "primary" origin) & Xion (another artificial being with Sora Origins).
Narratively & thematically, Naminé's arc from CoM to KH2 was a continuation of Ven's story in Birth By Sleep. Both characters are strongly tied to themes of isolation, abusive authority figures, and artificial life. While other characters - Xion, Repliku & Terra-Xehanort - also explore these themes, Kairi notably does not.
I will note that Naminé does not NEED to be Kairi's Nobody to act as her narrative foil: I just find that identifying Naminé with Kairi is buying into the very same (false) Binaric Gender Roles that CoM, Days & (to a lesser extent) BBS sought to poke holes in. Tiny, easily mistranslated-into-nonexistence holes but holes nonetheless. Attempting to conflate Naminé with Kairi is to give the latter character more narrative presence than she truly has, in an effort to reconcile the two together beyond "similarly aged females in proximity to KH's plot".
