The Garden
"It starts, as it will end, with a garden." - The voice of god
Did it, though? The Good Omens tv series began in the Garden of Eden.
The world *doesn't* end at the Tadfield Airbase. At the end of the first season, we see Adam escaping his yard and running through an orchard, but then we see Aziraphale and Crowley in the park and finally at the Ritz, before a nightingale sings in Berkeley Square and we go to credits. The second season ends with Aziraphale taking the elevator to Heaven and Crowley driving off to who-knows-where. Maybe the scene with Adam running through the orchards is supposed to tie up the prediction. But honestly? I'm hoping for season 3, as our final season, to end with Aziraphale and Crowley in a garden. Because who says the voice of god was referring to The World beginning and ending in a garden, and not the story of the Long and Winding Road leading an angel and a demon together?

I've never understood what people mean when they say that Crowley is hiding the truth of Heaven and God's cruelty from Aziraphale to protect him or spare his feelings. That's like...the complete opposite of what Crowley does.
Crowley spends all 6000 years of their time on Earth together making snarky comments about Heaven and God at every opportunity. It's his opening line in Eden, and even before Eden, he meets Aziraphale and two minutes later goes on a rant about how unfair it is to end the world before it’s really started. "What's the point of making an infinite universe if you're only going to let it run for a few thousand years?" He's been forcing Aziraphale to grapple with God's plan literally since the moment they met. Those moments make up like half of the S1E3 intro, and it happens again in every single S2 minisode. "Same God that wants me to whack the kids?" "Tell her that poverty is ineffably wonderful and life is worth living. Go on!" "That's the trouble with you lot. You tend to see things in black and white." Like. Crowley's not trying to hide anything! He thinks Heaven sucks! He thinks God is playing a fucked up game! He tells Aziraphale that all the time!
Crowley sharing or not sharing the minute details of Aziraphale's failed execution is, honestly, a nonissue, and it's kind of frustrating to see it constantly brought up. We don't even know for sure that Crowley never told Aziraphale exactly what was said. Crowley says Aziraphale "doesn't remember it either," when he's talking to Jim--not that he doesn't know, just that he doesn't remember, because he wasn't physically there. But regardless of whether Aziraphale knows the exact words, he absolutely knows that Gabriel "tried very hard to cast [him] into Hellfire and destroy [him]." And he already knows Gabriel is an asshole. That's not news.
And I'm unconvinced that Crowley wouldn't have shared what he learned in Heaven about the Second Coming and Gabriel's trial over breakfast at the Ritz if things hadn't gone completely to shit. Here's my hot take: in the fifteen minutes he and Aziraphale had alone after he got back, he had other things on his mind. Would it have been helpful for Aziraphale to know? Eh, maybe. But honestly, Aziraphale is already aware that Heaven 1) is fully on board with the end of the world, and 2) has no problem punishing angels who try to stop the end of the world. Because, you know. They tried to kill him about it last time. And regardless, I don't think this is an issue of Crowley hiding things--I think he genuinely just forgot, because he was busy getting broken up with. If he'd thought about it, you bet he would have weaponized that to get Aziraphale to stay. And he kind of did! "When Heaven ends life here on Earth, it'll be just as dead as if Hell ended it."
And then there's the Fall, and yeah, fair enough. Crowley probably hasn't shared what the Fall looked like for him, and I think that's information Aziraphale could benefit from. Aziraphale clearly doesn't understand it--if he did, I can't imagine that he would have asked Crowley back to Heaven.
But that's still not Crowley trying to hide the truth about Heaven to protect Aziraphale's feelings, or whatever. He just doesn't want to talk about it! Because it fucking sucked! Crowley's communication problems stem entirely from his reluctance to grapple with his own emotions, and his reluctance to be vulnerable. Bitching about Heaven doesn't make him vulnerable; talking about his Fall really, really does.
Crowley has never once shied away from telling Aziraphale exactly what he thinks about Heaven, or the archangels, or God. He's constantly challenging him, forcing him to consider the people hurt by policy decisions like the Flood, the Crucifixion, Job's trials, or the "virtues of poverty." That's a huge part of their dynamic. Sure, he sucks at telling Aziraphale about himself--he doesn't communicate why he wants holy water, or that he's been living in his car, or anything at all about the Fall (as far as we know)--but when it comes to God? He is painfully honest. That's why Aziraphale is so unsettled by him. Crowley is generally very good to Aziraphale and conscious of his happiness, yes, but he's also not afraid to push him. It's baffling to me that people think that all he does is coddle him when we spend about half the show watching them bicker over this exact issue on screen.

Harlowe Vega [ M ] Character Page
Confident, sarcastic, and the absolute definition of "bad boy." Harlowe was adopted as a baby and has a strained relationship with his family. As the oldest out of the group, Harlowe is the de facto leader of the nephilim, a role that he doesn't take lightly. While he may be cold at first, Harlowe is loyal and very protective of his loved ones.
Sarcastic - Protective - Confident
Florence Kade [ F ] Character Page
With a smile that rivals the sun and a knack for creating chaos wherever she goes, Florence is the first person that you'll meet while getting settled in at Moonvale University. Don't let her kindness fool you, though. Her tongue is sharp enough to cut through metal. A fact that Harlowe himself has been acquainted with, one too many times.
Kind - Candid - Outgoing
Eden Wright [ M ] Character Page
Quiet, studious, and kind to a fault, Eden is the son of the local librarian, George Wright. George, who just so happens to be your mother's childhood friend (and might be able to help you find out more about your father). Though Eden is in your year, you rarely see him around. The man seems to prefer to hang out in the library when he isn't working at the coffee shop on campus or training. Regardless of his soft exterior, Eden is more than capable of defending himself and others, which is why Harlowe has chosen him as his second-hand.
Reserved - Studious - Strong
Aena Ritz [ F ] Character Page
If there is one word to describe Aena, it's responsible. As a Criminal Justice major and self-proclaimed "mom friend", Aena makes it a point to keep everybody on track. That being said, she still knows how to let loose and often spends her Friday nights at the local club with Florence and a few classmates. Aena is hard working and slow to anger, but when her fuse is lit, it's smarter to run and hide.
Responsible - Honest - Respected
Alistaire Morrison [ M ] Character Page
Your enigmatic English professor who always seems to have dark circles under his eyes and a coffee mug glued to one hand. Alistaire is the newest of the faculty at Moonveld University, and by far the favorite professor among the students. Whether that's due to his (surprisingly) entertaining lectures or his physical looks, it's unclear. What is clear is that there is more to him than meets the eye, and you aren't sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Mysterious - Charming - Respected

A list (non-exhaustive) of why the 1941 flashback scenes are haunting both me and The Narrative, Part 1:
1. Both S1 and S2 have scenes that take place that night - THAT CERTAIN NIGHT - in 1941. It is specifically revisited in S2, which leads the audience to believe that night was of particular importance, both to Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship and to the overall plot of the show.
2. In the same vein of things that are referenced more than once, the song “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” was first released in 1940, and it’s entirely plausible that they both heard it for the first time in 1941 while in each other’s company.
All evidence points to the song being personally significant to Aziraphale and Crowley. We know it as Their Song, and they seem to think of it that way as well - otherwise Crowley’s “no nightingales” comment in the last 15 minutes of S2ep6 would not have struck Aziraphale so hard; we can see by his expression that the words affect him. With that statement, Crowley seems to be referencing not only the song itself, but possibly also a specific memory they share that involves that song.
At first, one might assume he means the occasion at the Ritz at the end of S1, because that song is indeed playing in that scene. However, I think that scene itself is also partially a reference back to 1941, which I’ll get to in a later item.
3. When examined closely, many scenes and plot elements from the rest of the show may be nodding to 1941. When Crowley and Aziraphale discuss ways that humans fall in love in the pub scene in S2ep2, Crowley references being caught under an awning in the rain, a very transparent callback to Eden when they huddled under Aziraphale’s wing.
So, Crowley’s contribution harkens back to Eden, but what does Aziraphale mention? What is called to his mind when he thinks of falling in love? Cotillion balls. Music and dancing. Things he’s read about in Jane Austen novels, the moments therein where the protagonists realize they’re in love. On its surface, Aziraphale’s idea of falling in love seems more like an abstraction than something the angel has experienced himself. Except: perhaps he has. Perhaps, just like with almost everything Aziraphale says and does, we should be looking at it much deeper than surface level.
Maybe he’s projecting just like Crowley is, just in a less straightforward, more opaque sort of way, which you have to admit would be very in-character of him. Maybe he’s thinking of a moment we have not directly seen yet, a moment that has only been gestured to. In other words, “a joke the paleontologists haven’t seen yet,” the paleontologists in this case being, well, us. We know Aziraphale is actually capable of sleight of hand in the right circumstances, so maybe him talking about a ball is only a feint, a flamboyantly waving hand as a distraction to keep our attention away from what the other hand is doing. Maybe he is also recalling a specific memory of himself and Crowley, one that involved music and dancing, and the realization that the feeling between them was love.
So with all that in mind, what moment from the show do we have great reason to believe was Aziraphale’s realization of his own feelings, and to an extent, Crowley’s as well? Yup, you’ve got it: 1941 again. The aftermath of Crowley rescuing him at the church and saving his books. The face that launched a ship. (Sorry.)
4. Backtracking slightly to the topic of music and dancing and The Ball, let’s talk about this: just like Crowley “did a rainstorm” to try to get Nina and Crowley to fall for each other the same way he fell for Aziraphale, The Ball may have been Aziraphale’s effort to recreate the occasion on which he realized he’d fallen for Crowley. Perhaps it was intended to be a “do-over” of past events where they almost connected, with the aim of finally reaching each other this time. We’re all aware by now that while Aziraphale did fully intend to get Maggie and Nina together, he also threw a ball specifically to dance with Crowley.
It does initially seem odd that he thinks Crowley will respond well to such a big, ostentatious party, but perhaps Aziraphale has tried the subtle route before to little avail. Like when, you may well ask?
5. Well, for one: their rendezvous in 2008, right after the Antichrist arrives on Earth, in S1ep1. Crowley has been unsuccessful in convincing Aziraphale to help him avert the apocalypse, but the angel has fewer qualms about a lunch date at the Ritz.
After the Ritz, they go back to the bookshop, with Aziraphale telling Crowley he still has some Chateauneuf du Pape left “for special occasions,” which is an interesting comment - the reason why this is a special occasion to Aziraphale is never named, as Crowley glosses over it in favor of pointing out that nobody will be having any wine anymore if Heaven wins the upcoming war. Aziraphale reiterates his refusal to engage with that topic, and ushers Crowley into the shop.
All this leaves the vague impression that Aziraphale has his own agenda for the evening (because all appearances of passivity aside, the angel almost always has his own agenda). And Crowley, not noticing this or perhaps choosing to not notice it, is throwing a spanner in the works of said agenda by continuing to bring up the apocalypse. And so, stuck at this stalemate, they drink the ‘special occasion’ wine in the shop, and listen to music, and get very drunk. It’s a small detail, but we know the music is coming from the gramophone because it’s the same record Aziraphale was listening to when Crowley called him the night prior.
So, wine and music. Why are these elements significant? It isn’t named, but in S2ep4 when Aziraphale and Crowley have returned to the bookshop after the magic show, the bottle of wine they share in the back room is the same kind, Chateauneuf du Pape.
And while there is noticeably no music playing when the two of them are sitting in the quiet, private, candlelit back room of the shop, the gramophone can be seen over Aziraphale’s shoulder in many parts of the scene, looming over their conversation like a musical Chekhov’s gun.
And here’s the real kicker: the gramophone, as it happens, is normally positioned facing the opposite direction. In bookshop scenes from the rest of S2, even earlier on in that very same episode, we see it facing the usual way, in the direction of Aziraphale’s desk.
This means that it was intentionally turned so that the “mouth” of the gramophone would be visible in this scene, and turned towards Aziraphale and Crowley. You may well ask: “the background of this scene is dark and out of focus, how can you tell for sure which way the gramophone is facing?” If you look closely, you can see the gramophone’s crank is on the right side, visible in some shots past the lip of the wine bottle. If the gramophone were facing in its usual direction, the crank would be on the left and invisible in these shots.
And, to add another layer to it, we know how important cranks are as a symbolic object in this series, how much power these objects can hold in the hands of the correct wielder. Crowley turns a crank to prime the engine of the universe - in other words, to begin the music of the spheres; and much later, he uses the Bentley’s crank when he restarts time on the Tadfield airbase. What if the gramophone’s crank was used in a similar way in 1941, to temporally create a little universe of their own, either metaphorically or literally?
Great care was taken in planning every aspect, every little detail of this show; almost nothing is a coincidence; staging scenes especially is done with the utmost degree of care. All of this to say, we as the audience seem to be meant to relate the scenes from 1941, 2008, and 2023 narratively, even though they take place decades apart. Throughout the years, Aziraphale may be trying - subtly at first, but then less so - to recreate the events of 1941.
Okay, that’s items 1 through 5. I definitely have more but I hit the limit for gifs and images for posting via the mobile app, so I’m going to have to post the rest in at least two more parts. Because I still have ghosts in my head and I must write about it. Hauntings are easier to handle if there’s someone in the house with you who sees the ghosts too.

Do you have any marriage proposals fics? :)
We have a #proposal tag, so make sure to check that! Here are more to add to the collection...
Lost and Found by belovedhypnos (T)
Aziraphale is certain that Crowley will propose soon. There must be a reason why it's taking the demon longer than expected? * Takes place after the show, in a world where another Apocalypse was avoided and Aziraphale and Crowley are in an established relationship.
There's Always Us by FandomStar (T)
This story begins as it shall end, in a garden. Not in the Garden of Eden, but the Garden of Aziraphale and Crowley.
As You Wish by PirateFanatic (T)
Aziraphale adores public marriage proposals. Crowley – not as such. But whatever the angel wants…
to the world by rainbowumbrella (T)
Crowley’s problem is quite simple - he’s already proposed. Aziraphale, in an act of what Crowley can only assume is meant to be kind, painful as it might be, has simply failed to answer and ignored the question entirely. Which he has to assume means that the answer is no, that it was no then - and of course it was no then, they were barely into the acknowledging-their-friendship phase at the time and Crowley had just really stuck his foot in his mouth - and continues to be no now. *** Every human in Crowley’s life thinks he should propose. Crowley would agree if it weren’t for the fact that he already has.
crazy little thing called love by sleepy_angel (G)
"You were very good at that," he says, before taking a sip of his tea. "Temptation. You are good at it, I rather meant," he corrected himself. He sipped his tea as he sat on the chair by his desk, sinking into the softness. Crowley blinks up at him and straightens his back. He laughs, a strained, breathy noise, and Aziraphale can't tell if it's from discomfort or something else. "Like you'd know." Aziraphale sips his tea, urging him with a raised eyebrow to go on. "I mean... angels can't exactly be tempted." "You'd be surprised," says Aziraphale, and elaborates no further. Or, Aziraphale plans to propose at the ritz. Decidedly, he's not the only one.
Headlights by RoswellSmokingWoman (M)
Aziraphale made Crowley want to believe in the ineffability of a God that brought them together. Crowley made Aziraphale want to sacrifice his religion and worship their love instead. But that was then when love was enough to bring together two fools desperate to make it work. Three years after their divorce, Aziraphale and Crowley aren't talking. They've tried to move on, but neither can. It should be their anniversary, on New Year's Eve, but they're not together. They should be together. Aziraphale calls. He's not even sure whether Crowley will pick up, but he does. They see each other again for the first time in years, and it's a whirlwind. It's time to heal old wounds, put aside their differences, and make their relationship work again. They already know the alternative, and know they can't live like that anymore.

Good Omens HC; post s2: uhhhg sad I think
After he left he didn’t have access to anything he loved and was used to telling Crowley about his day and to avoid it hurting more than it did, he’d make up small daydreams. That Crowley just left to buy something, that he was off spreading rumors, that he was tending to his plants, so he wouldn’t have to deal with acknowledging he was really gone.
Every night as all the humans started falling asleep when he had a small moment of silence, he’d write a letter to Crowley telling him all about his day, about his struggles and successes, and every day he ends the letter with “I miss you, everyday, goodnight Crowley.” And keeps every letter in a small box he hides away.
In the box he has little trinkets he refused to throw away such as: 2 tickets to a play, the last receipt of who paid at the ritz, a small unlabeled book filled to the brim with photos and sketches, a wine label and a note from Freddie Mercury on the back of a record label for Queens latest hits.
Freddie Mercury used to try and get Aziraphale to admit that he felt some way towards Crowley and wrote “Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy” for him, even going as far as writing him a note on a random label he found telling Aziraphale how to word it.
Aziraphale never once admitted to Crowley the song was for him.
Crowley never once admitted the song felt as though it were for Aziraphale.
Crowley found Hoizer on earth after Azi left and loops “Unknown/Nth” and “Eden” when he thinks of Azi too long.
Crowley acts angry in public going as far as saying he hates Aziraphale and that he never truly believes they were friends then cries and screams to himself at night on how he could possibly utter such words.
Crowleys plants began to slowly wilt from the sheer emotional distress in Crowley after Azi left and she yells at them all to no avail.
Crowley never so much as raises his voice to the flower Azi gave him and spent a night sobbing clutching the shaking flower begging it not to wilt on him, begging it to stay with him.

aziraphale's wing covering crowley in eden and the lid of the piano at the ritz being a parallel for it and the shadow in the last pic we saw them in front of the sea just shows how much aziraphale's protection for crowley has always been more subtle and quiet. for fear, for prudence, for whatever. he rarely showed action, I think, it's more like a constant reminder that he is and always will be by his side. on the other hand, crowley's protection for aziraphale has been showed by grand gestures. stopping time to prevent him from being decapitated. diverting the direction of a bomb to save him. entering a fucking pocket dimension or whatever the fuck that was with adam because aziraphale told him he needed to do something or he would never talk to him again and so on

I’m rebuilding my entire Minecraft Whickber Street build at a new angle because I’d realized Aziraphale’s desk didn’t *actually* face east in the context of my world. It’s all in the details 🤌🏻✨ Thank god my mob farm gives me music discs for filling up the record shop 😌
I plan on doing a walkthrough video when it’s done! I’ll also be building the duck pond at St James park, the wall of Eden and the Ritz ⭐️

there is something so sad abt this exchange, and so foreboding.
Aziraphale is still so focused on Heaven and The Rules™️ and he’s so frightened— it’s funny for a while, up until it’s not, and Crowley winds up feeling the need to save Aziraphale from that fear.
"Well yeah, you did but...I'm not going to tell anyone. Are you? … well, then nothing has to change.”
He says it lightheartedly, but it defines their entire relationship; he knows Aziraphale won’t go confessing to being anything other than Pure and Good in the eyes of Heaven, even if he knows so well already that he did the right thing. It’s not right by Heaven’s rules, so Aziraphale can’t speak of it with anyone outside of Crowley, and even then, he’s so scared to speak of it, he barely can.
Crowley tells him nothing has to change.
“You won’t say anything, I won’t say anything, and nothing ever has to change.” — “we never speak of this blossoming thing between us, i swear I’ll never so much as mention it, because I know this scares you — that I scare you — and that probably will never change. And I won’t make you change. I won’t ask you to. Silence will keep us safe — as long as we don’t define it, you and I, we never have to lose us.”
And then we pivot into the subject of the inherent loneliness of their shared Otherness, and that of course Crowley lies — he’s a demon. It’s like a mockery of Aziraphale, “see, I do The Bad Thing of lying, because I’m simple and evil, you don’t have to think anymore on that. Probably shouldn’t, anyway. If you do, you might notice that I did it to protect you, that I care about you, that good and evil aren’t so simple in reality, and that will make you more scared, more lonely, but I don’t mind protecting you from that, so all you need to know is that I’m a demon and I lie because of course I do.”
He bears the terrible weight of Knowing, which ofc is v fitting of the serpent of Eden, but at some point, Aziraphale has to choose to know, to truly understand the difference between good and right and bad and wrong, and this is where Crowley’s been stuck at for eons.
When he spoke about their love out loud, he was breaking The Unspoken Agreement, he was exposing Aziraphale to the ambiguity of right and wrong, the uncomfortable truth that they can choose who they are, in the world and to each other, and that they should choose each other — that he wants them to.
And he knew Aziraphale would be scared, so he chose his words very precisely, was up and ready to go to the Ritz and fly right by it all, just get it out in the open and maybe wait another thousand years to see if Aziraphale might be willing then to entertain the thought of holding hands or maybe a kiss if he were being very brave — but fear won.
Crowley thought, “I know I promised not to mention it, that neither of us would — but it’s wrong not to. I think the right thing now is for us to speak about it out loud, to just let us love one another — that can’t be wrong, right?”
And Aziraphale said, “you’re the bad guys,” and Crowley realized he’d said what was never supposed to be said, all for nothing.
Aziraphale insisted that he not worry, because he can change Crowley back into a Good Guy, just the opposite of what Crowley said to him back then, saying “I won’t ask you to change, we never have to say it out loud,” — and Crowley’s just back on that rock, just as lonesome as he’s ever been.
I guess the biggest difference with the kiss is that he says not to bother forgiving him. Maybe Aziraphale did forgive him for lying about the inherent loneliness of being Other, but this time? Crowley’s too hurt — and whatever, he’s a demon, right? He’s just a bad guy. What’s worth forgiving?

GOOD OMENS S2E6 SPOILERS
CAN WE TALK ABOUT AZIRAPHALE’S REACTION TO THE KISS THOUGH. BC THAT WAS INSANE AZIRAPHALE LOOKED SO DISGUSTED BUT NOT DISGUSTED. BRO WAS LIKE “why would you admit the thing we’d been dancing around for millenia right now. why did you do this to me crowley. how could you possibly make me admit that ive been in love with you this whole time, when ive spent my entire life catering to the needs of heaven and dancing around my heart and how much i want to be with you, because you’re a demon and i’m an angel and we’re on opposite sides, when i was fascinated by you back when you were an angel, when you approached me in eden, and all the times we’d seen each other over the 6000 years we had on earth, meeting behind dark alleyways and at our rendezvous points knowing we could die for merely interacting with each other. when now, when we could go back to heaven, the “good guys” together, and we could see each other safely, you turn me away. when we could be together right now if you came and followed me to heaven. why would you do this crowley.”
and crowley’s like “i’ve loved you since the Beginning and you were the reason why i put up with all this heaven/hell bullshit, knowing that no matter what would happen it would always be me and you, a team, an us. and now you want to go back to the place that kicked me out for asking the right questions, the place that tried to destroy you when it was actually me disguised as you, the place that you are too good and too pure for with the people that treat you so much worse than you deserve. you want to give up your bookshop, the life we had together here, our dinners at the ritz, our meaningless conversations over the phone, the things that made this peaceful, fragile existence that i was so content in living in so worthwhile, because i loved you back then and i love you now and if gabriel and beelzebub could be together then i want to try being with you too. they proved that a relationship like ours was possible, and i want to spend eternity with you aziraphale. i want to so badlt. but you want to throw all that away for your “good guys”. because that’s all we are to you, when it boils down to it, isn’t it? i’m the demon and you’re the angel. the bad guys vs the good guys.”
so anyway i am ill
(plus the freaking. trembling and touching his lips from aziraphale like he couldnt believe that just happened. i hate this show)

Hi there, hope you are doing well!
I was wondering if you knew of any fics, preferably explicit but not necessarily, that feature Crowley in drag? I’ve found a lot of she/her or otherwise fem!Crowley fics, but very few that broach the subject of cross-dressing/drag as a male-identifying entity.
Apologies for the weirdly specific request. Thank you so much for all y’all do by the way, this blog is an absolute gem!
Hello. I can't find loads, unfortunately. But here are a couple with Crowley in drag and a couple with Aziraphale in drag...
from tonight, I know that you're the only one by wowgaypeople (T)
Aziraphale, new to SoHo, goes to the wrong door of a gay club. Crowley is on the other side of that door. Antics ensue.
The Stylings of Madam Glena by altsernative (T)
It's 1977, eight years after Aziraphale said "You got too fast for me," and Crowley hasn't seen him since. In Aziraphale's absence, Crowley helps set up the Sundown Club, a gay bar in Soho. He tells himself--and downstairs--that it's building a space for "workers of inequity," although he finds comfort in the community. He's settled into a quiet routine of drinking at the bar every week until a beautiful drag queen captures his attention. Crowley feels unexpected things. It's weird. And where is Aziraphale?
Angel, Please by GhostOfCallisto (M)
Crowley and Aziraphale are both regular old humans who met under human circumstances. Crowley is a part of a struggling band called Hellish Rebuke with the demon crew, Aziraphale is a former drag queen named Angel Fell attempting to be a professional dancer. Maggie and Nina are best friends with Crowley and big fans of his band.
Love in a Family Dose by Fledglinger, thewalrus_said (G)
Crowley thumped his head against the door and thought a quick, sarcastic prayer at a God who had never, not once, had his back. “Aziraphale,” he said, trying for patience. “Open this door.” “Go away!” his husband shrieked. “You can’t see me like this!” “I’ve seen you every way imaginable,” Crowley said, trying the knob again. “Whatever state you’re in can’t be much worse. Newt! Get this door open!” “Sorry, Miss Azi,” he heard their housekeeper mumble, and then something heavy was moved away from the door and it swung open to reveal Newt, pale face flushed and pale hair disheveled. Crowley pushed past him into the room as Aziraphale shrieked again and disappeared behind his dressing screen.
Dust Shalt Thou Eat by ARealPip, Nix Laurel (E)
After the world doesn't end, Crowley and Aziraphale get a room at the Ritz and start working out what it means for them to be together. They can swap bodies and touch each other's souls, but their bodies interact with the world very differently from each other. Crowley's body is cursed by God, and he can't taste food. And Aziraphale, like all angels, doesn't experience sexual arousal. Now that they are together, they can expand each other's horizons. But relationships, even magical ones, are delicate and complicated, and being able to hear your partner's thoughts doesn't mean that you will agree on everything. Two magical lovers find ways to heal each other, to escape their past, and to protect Earth from all those bastards in Heaven and Hell.
Saving Eden by Aspiring_Eccentric (E)
Crowley had left Eden fully expecting death in one form or another. But what if he didn’t have to die? What would happen if he made it out of this? Trials and paperwork and news articles. His life would be ripped apart and exposed, ugly and raw to the world. But maybe it needed to happen if he wanted any chance at building a future. He’d tried running before, first burying what he was, and then who. And each time it had only led to worse things, to this. This fucking, suffocating mess that left him at the mercy of a merciless man.... Both Anthony Crowley and Ezra Fell feel stuck. Their lives have fallen into patterns they feel they have little control over, Crowley’s is controlled by a manipulative boss, and Ezra’s by his passive acceptance that he should be grateful for what he has. When the two lives cross, there are instant sparks. But will Crowley’s secrecy about his past, and his current situation, push Ezra away? A meet-cute that changed into a midlife crisis. A midlife crisis that changed into a lifelong devotion. Sometimes, persisting to exist is its own act of revolution.

Temptation is the Name of the Game
"I am good. And you, I'm afraid, are evil. But people get a choice."
Crowley has always given Aziraphale a choice. He's never forced him into anything he didn't want to do. He never assumed the outcome would be in his favor- just hoped. He tempts him and if the Angel agrees, then they'll continue their little song and dance together. But if he refuses, he leaves it be. Maybe he'll try again later. There's always been a later. Always another chance. After all, they have all the time in the world. Or so he thought.
Think back to their random S1E3 meeting in Rome, and how Crowley looked so incredulous when Aziraphale tries to tempt him into trying oysters and Aziraphale flirtatiously acknowledges their lil push and pull game of temptations through the years.
"No-- that's your job, isn't it?" The wily demon tempts him, gives him a choice and more often than not, he gives in. But it's always been his choice.
We see Aziraphale truly give into his first true temptation back during the Job flashback in S2E2. Crowley tempts him with wine. Aziraphale refuses. Crowley doesn't push it. So, trying again, he gives him another choice.
"Are you trying to tempt me?" "Not at all. Angels can't be tempted, can you?" And Aziraphale gives into the temptation (and to the point of full on gluttony- OMG THE WHOLE OX, AZI!? lol) It's the first time Crowley realizes that even Angels can give into demonic temptations. After all, his whole purpose as a Demon on Earth is to tempt humans. Humans are human because they get to make the choice between all the good and evil in the world as was pointed out in S2E3 in the Scottish minisode.
I feel like one of the main reasons Crowley instantly fell head over heals obsessed with Aziraphale at the wall of Eden was that when Aziraphale tells him he made the choice to give up his flaming sword to humanity, Crowley realized how different this particular Angel was compared to all the others in Heaven.
Because normally, Angels don't get a choice.
They follow orders. They fall in line. They listen. They don't ask. Their autonomy is locked into a heavenly order that they must obey. And if you go against any of that, then you fall. You're damned. You become a Demon. Like him. Unforgiveable. But here, an Angel- that if given the choice between following direct orders from Heaven or making his own choice to do something that he felt was right at the time and getting away with it; as he still stands on the walls of Eden with his pure white wings intact afterwards- then maybe this Angel is truly something special. Aziraphale piques Crowley's curiosity. He fascinates him. He surprises him. He keeps him guessing. And he loves that. Aziraphale to Crowley is just one big unanswered question and Crowley spends an eternity trying to figure him out. So he keeps asking him questions to understand him. To make sense of how someone so pure of heart could disobey and still be holy. (aka my TLDR; mini post)
In S1E6, right before they dine at the Ritz in the finale, they have a cute little inside joke moment on the bench.
"Let me… tempt you to a spot of lunch?" "Temptation accomplished!" It's like an unspoken lil game between the two of them at that point. Aziraphale knows that Crowley will always ask him if he wants to do something that might be against his natural instincts of being "the good one". But he also knows that he'll usually give in- especially if it's to spend more time with Crowley. After all, it's what Crowley does best (or worst. depending on who's perspective)- asking damn fool questions. What is a temptation if not a question proposed in the form of giving someone a desirable choice?
"You and me, what do you say?" He bares his heart and soul and gives him one last choice to make. The ultimate temptation. Give up this idea of going back to Heaven and stay with me as an "us".
"Oh, Crowley. Nothing lasts forever."
"No… no I don't suppose it does.."
It's here that Crowley knew that their time was up- that he wouldn't be able to keep their lil game of temptations going any longer. What was once forever has turned into the final moments of the sand falling through the hour glass.
"Oh, it doesn't matter. It's too late for that now, isn't it? It's always too late.." An endless void of eternity finally shines its light at the end of the tunnel. With each passing world-ending crisis, he can vividly see that there won't be another six thousand years to keep nudging the choice under Aziraphale's nose until he finally decides to give into temptation and choose to be with him. So, out of desperation, Crowley went all in and took Aziraphale's choice away from him in hopes of speeding things up before the hourglass empties completely. But as we all know..
"You go to fast for me, Crowley.." Crowley has always been on a different speed than Aziraphale. Always one step ahead of him.
They kiss and… Aziraphale breaks all our hearts by immediately forgiving him.
"I forgive you." Forgiving him for ending their centuries old game. Forgiving him for taking that choice away from him- even if he would have said yes, it was still his choice to make. Crowley made the wrong decision to kiss him in that particular moment and he knew it- they both did. (side note: I'm not taking sides or putting blame on either one here for this "breakup". They both had their "wrongs" here.. regardless, I loved the angst and that kiss either way ^-~) But to receive that instant forgiveness from the most important being in his world was too much. So instead of pushing it further, he leaves the bookshop in devastating disappointment. And yet.. he still doesn't go far. He waits. Just like he always has been. Waiting for Aziraphale. Waiting for him to catch up.
Crowley silently standing at "their" car across the street is his true final temptation and giving back the choice to his Angel. But this time without words. Without action. He leaves an opening for Aziraphale to choose to be with him one last time. Its the final move in their long game of temptation and Crowley still holds onto hope.
So there he stands. Watches as Aziraphale looks at him through the window from the bookshop in trepidation.
But ultimately, Aziraphale just gives him that one final sideways glance before choosing to step into the elevator and leaves him for Heaven (more on his reasoning for that choice in my other post). Their game is over. No more temptations. No more time. Each set out on their new paths. Apart.. With no apparent winner or loser... :(
I know.. I know.. I'm overanalyzing again. And I'm sure others have pointed this out in every way possible but I just can't stop thinking about it and sometimes I have to write it out in my own words to wrap my head around it all ^-^ ..cause I'm still hurtin'.. *cries* T_T I need to go read some South Downs cottage fanfics to heal until S3....
