A debilitating parasite that causes a fatal disease in fish has been confirmed in British Columbia for the first time, four months after a suspected case in the Rockies caused several bodies of water to be closed. Emerald Lake and several nearby lakes in B.C.'s Yoho National Park, roughly 175 kilometres northwest of Calgary, were shuttered after a suspected case of whirling disease was found last September. Parks Canada said on Friday that further testing confirmed the presence of whirling disease in Emerald Lake. It also confirmed the disease had spread to bodies of water in the Kootenay River watershed.

‘Biodiversity is the foundation of an ecosystem’s stability as the diversity of species creates resilience for a wide variety of livelihoods and (climatic) events. Nature can continue to provide its important ecosystem services in a sustainable landscape in which biodiversity is conserved. Therefore, nature serves as our starting point for integral landscape management.’ Sander van Andel – Senior Expert Nature Conservation

Principles for ecosystem restoration to guide the United Nations Decade 2021–2030.
Tumblr media
To support the implementation of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and help achieve its goals, there is a need for a shared vision of ecosystem restoration. A key step in creating a shared vision of ecosystem restoration is to adopt principles that underpin the full set of ecosystem restoration activities. To this end, this brochure presents ten principles for ecosystem restoration including a first principle that orients restoration in the context of the UN Decade, followed by nine best-practice principles. These best-practice principles detail the essential tenets of ecosystem restoration that should be followed to maximize net gain for native biodiversity, ecosystem health and integrity, and human health and well-being, across all biomes, sectors and regions.

Aaaaaand I'm done! Out of all the characters that appeared in this tournament, 186 ended being a YES for the criteria of the Loser Edition, 88 were a no and 73 were a maybe which surprised me. But really it shouldn't have, half of the contestants get ditched on the first round.
I added the YES and Maybes together and removed 3 characters that don't really fit anymore my criteria of participation and here we have 256 contestants ready for the Loser Edition! So look forward to it!

Racism was born out of slavery — a bondage born on the Atlantic’s middle passages that not only secured independence for the United States but also dispossessed some 14 million African souls (and that’s not including those who died of disease and terror at sea, were born in the dark depths of those slave ships, or threw themselves overboard)
Racism transformed the settler violence that devastated indigenous communities and hardened the hierarchies and caste systems that displaced diasporas
Racism transformed gender into a political of controlling the white sexuality (and sexual exclusivity) of white women and commodifying the reproductive labor of Black women who became “de mules of de world”
Racism grew from the same roots of ecological imperialism that created whiteness as a separate “Other” who existed above the natural world and wonders that we all belong to // racism declared whiteness as an inherent precarious place that must perform and perpetuate violence in order to legitimize its existence // racism has alienated Western European and their colonized cousins and descendants who occupy native lands and wield violence to justify their right to remain and reinforce dominance over nature by polluting water, choking the land, and erasing the human and non-human relatives colored like the earth to assert a whitewashed myth of exceptionalism
Racism defines our lovecraft country that was built on slavery, still runs on slavery, and refuses to redress slavery . . . as Black kinfolk self-immolate in max prisons and as unhoused neighbors, undocumented relatives, and pregnant folks have their embodied circumstances criminalized by a nation more willing to shoot brown schoolchildren, bomb neighborhoods, protect billionaire murderers, and build military bases and cop cities on sacred forests and ancestral communities, than fund quality education and universal healthcare . . .
Racism is killing all of us // it a crisis of our collective past and a reckoning with our shared futures

don't universities in France provide dormitories? (is praying in an atheist × culturally Orthodox Christian way)
i've never seen a french uni with "dorms" the american college way (not saying they Don't Exist, just that i cannot think of one like at all), we do have publicly owned student housing that's managed by the regional centers for students (CROUS). they're in high demand + they are off the market Fucking Fast and at the time i would have been putting in an application for one there was still so much #Uncertainty i wasn't even sure i could get one. so i didn't. i'm not mad because i had plans to get my own place from the beginning anyways. i just re-started my search a bit late and got scared. APPRECIATE THE PRAYER i fw the smell of church incense in a cultural way i do

I know from the looks of my blog and from the things I say, this might seem weird or out of character, but I have so much love for the world.
I love how shadows creep up and down in sunsets and sunrises. I love how birds play and kiss and preen on tree branches and power lines. I love small cozy places. I love sleeping by the warmth of a fire. I love a tight hug with my mother where I can smell her perfume and it reminds me of all of my fond memories of childhood. I love cold mornings at sleepovers or whilst camping where everyone shivers the second they awake, creating a choir of "brrrs" as the sun rises. I love foggy days. I love when people hold the door for someone they don't know. I love when cars stop to let someone cross and the pedestrian jogs across the road to be polite. I love when cats yawn. I love when dogs lie down and sigh loudly. I love food and cooking. I love the warm feeling in your chest when you drink hot chocolate. I love the relief of a cold drink on a hot day. I love when someone smiles and nods to tell you, "keep going!". I love the way everyone reacts differently when a door slams. I love the whistle in the breeze. I love when you see someone you know in public, and they haven't seen you yet, and it's like a little window into what they're like without your perception. I love when someone squeezes my hand to comfort me. I love when people change a bad habit and the people around them celebrate without judgement. I love that people come together when things get hard. I love that no matter who you are, where you are, someone out there is like you. I love when people squeeze past each other in a crowded place and say "oop!" or "scuuuuuse me,". I love when people ask what everyone wants on a coffee run. I love when babies laugh and smile at you. I love when people step up for each other even if they've never met or are enemies. I love when little kids ask every little thing on their mind. I love when someone quotes something, and only one person in the group gets it, and there's a moment of solidarity between them. I love when people wake up grumpy and stomp into the kitchen, rubbing their eyes like they're a little kid. I love finally lying down after a long day and feeling your body relax. I love when strangers get along. I love when the checkout workers at supermarkets take your empty basket for you. I love when the owner of a local corner store looks as old as the town itself, and remembers every customer. I love when parents are still in love, or can still be friends. I love elderly people who have just as much heart as they always have. I love when someone you know drives past and they wave out the window at you. I love when people on bicycles do wheelies just cuz it's fun. I love people that would drop everything to ensure a stranger's safety. I love when people get up and do something to help. I love when people express themselves, turning their pain into something beautiful. I love when I watch or see something and feel inspiration rise up in my chest and make me feel excited to do something, anything. I love how humans can adapt to anything. I love finding the best of a situation even if it seems like everything is hopeless. I love never giving up. I love art. I love music. I love food. I love community. I love dancing. I love laughing. I love strangers. I love connection. I love nature. I love human invention. I love creativity. I love hope. I love people. I love the world.

I've been weeding the garden for the last 2 days and my hands look sooo nasty, I maybe should have been wearing gloves. Not only I managed to get dirt stuck so badly under a fingernail that my entire finger got inflamed and upset, but parts of my hands are now permanently black, cannot wash it off, and the skin around my nails is torn, inflamed and messed up, some of it is bleeding.
However I am very satisfied with my work, strawberries are free of weeds and flowering, some tomatoes are transplanted outside, I have space to plant the peas, potatoes have started coming out of the soil, my hands will just have to get over this and grow thicker skin hehehe.
