I found some cool plastic bottles at a church sale (they were originally for that one coloured sand layering activity), so I decided to make some potions

So, here's how I made the insides! It was all with things I had, and feel free to modify and swap things as you see fit.

Most recipies will tell you to use mica powder or eyeshadow to add some shimmery effects, and I'd do that if I had either of those! Instead, my sub-in was some gold edible paint that my mom bought forever ago. So, shiny part I added to some of the potions? Check!

For most of them, I added some neat solids. One has chicken bones, another has little beads and glitter stars, another has some plastic spiders floating in the murk, and yet another has some glow-in-the-dark skull beads. I mostly just dug through my "goth shit" box until I found something I thought would look neat. Remember though, the items you add have to be ones that will survive being suspended in liquid for a long time!

You'll also need some food colouring, and go wild with colour ratios you use! I pretty much just thought of a colour I wanted to achieve and played around until I got that colour.

But, what about some cool tricks with liquid density? I added oil to some to create a neat clear top, as the food colouring would just drop right through it, and added corn syrup (you can also use glycerin, it's also denser than water) to the bottoms of some others to get some really cool layers of colour. (Tip: if you want bands of colour, dye the corn syrup as you're pouring it in, THEN add water. You can dye the water, but don't shake to mix the dye in as it and the colour you gave the corn syrup will mix.) Feel free to use other liquids, though! I added dish soap to the bone potion to add bubbles at the top, for example.

A classic decoration that should always be in abundance on Halloween. Try putting candies in the web for anyone to grab, I highly recommend using string lights to highlight the webs.

A.M.B.I.E.N.C.E.

No one like overhead lighting, it ruins pictures, hurts your eyes, and can take the fun out of the room. Blues, reds, purples, and greens are best for this spooky time of year. Here is an image for inspiration.
