With the sun in their eyes and the Lord at their backs by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: The Krazy Kataloguers have been at it again describing the beautifully constructed temporary emporium as a "Mission Toy Stall"! The vendor is standing in the shadows of rosary beads while statues of the Virgin Mary and Crucifixes stand on the counter would be objects of devotion rather than play? Apart from all of that the children standing in front of the stall make an interesting contrast. The ones on the left are dazzled by the sunshine and are well shod while those on the right are unaffected by the sun and are barefoot! Jenelle Evans is still standing by her man.
The fired Teen Mom 2 star gushed about her husband David Eason in a new post to social media on Friday, praising him for “protecting” her and proclaiming that they will be “just fine." The couple has been at the center of plenty of drama lately, from David’s pending charge of child abuse for his alleged assault on Jenelle’s oldest son Jace, to the recent accusations that David had been texting his ex-wife Whitney Rich and proclaiming he was “dreaming” of her, among other things.
Mr. and Mrs. Jenelle Evans seemingly got all gussied up and headed down to the local mall’s “Glamour Shots” location to pose for “happy family picnic” pics together.
In the black-and-white shots (which have no photographer credit), Jenelle looks lovingly at her employment-challenged soulmate, as David stares dead-eyed off-camera.
In another photo, David has his girthy paw wrapped around Jenelle’s neck and collarbone, as he and Jenelle both close their eyes (surely dreaming of all the fun times they’ve spent together in courtrooms).
In the final shot, Jenelle closes her eyes in fake laughter as she admires David’s chain necklace (which was surely purchased from the Vanilla Ice Insta-Rapper Collection). David, again, stares off-camera with a vacant look.
“No matter where I go I’m loved by you, no matter where we are you always make me laugh,” Jenelle wrote. “No matter where we are you know how to take away my anxiety, no matter where you are you don’t let anyone walk all over me, no matter where you are you protect me. Let them say whatever about us because we will be just fine. I love youuu babeeeee.”
In the comment section of the post on Facebook, David responded to Jenelle’s love note.
“Awwwe don’t make me cry,” David wrote. “I love you so much and I will always be there for you no matter what!”
While David appreciated the love letter, Jenelle’s followers were not impressed, with some reminding Jenelle that, just a few months ago, she was on Facebook accusing David of stealing her debit cards, making her depressed and refusing to work. Others brought up some of David’s unsavory past actions, such as Jenelle’s 911 call from 2018 in which she accused David of abusing her.
“No matter when she calls 911 to say you broke her collarbone she’ll forgive you,” one person wrote. “No matter which children get hit with sticks, locked in cars and strangled she will stay with you. No matter how many times you contact your exes or random girls she will want your Vienna sausage. True love story.”
“Every time I see pics of them I feel like we’ll see them one day on the First 48 [crime show],” another person wrote.
“Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago you were posting about unsupportive he is and how he’s the cause of your anxiety?” someone else commented. “And he was the reason you had no friends… Ohhh how the tables have turned!”
As The Ashley previously told you, David and Jenelle are currently being investigated by CPS. While Jace has been removed from their care and is now living with his grandma Barbara Evans, Jenelle’s son Kaiser and the couple’s daughter Ensley remain on The Land. (As The Ashley reported earlier this week, David’s older daughter Maryssa comes and goes from The Land.)
In addition to the slobbery soulmate tribute, Jenelle also posted a proclamation to her website that the text messages David allegedly sent to his ex-wife Whitney last year were “photoshopped.”
In a new story posted to her website, a writer who is absolutely, positively not Jenelle addressed the text messages and even obtained “exclusive” texts between David and Whitney during the time in question. According to Jenelle’s story, these prove that David never texted the things Whitney claims he did back in May 2022.
Jenelle even (somehow) managed to obtain an exclusive statement from David himself about how the text messages provided by Whitney are fake.
No. Seriously…
“I honestly think they are photoshopped because I have the real texts between Whitney and I,” David tells his wife’s website. “I have shown them to Jenelle and they are only pertaining to co-parenting.”
The website goes on to again accuse Whitney and her husband Shane of creating the text messages that were released.
“Many close sources to Jenelle and David Eason believe that Whitney Johnson and her husband, Kenneth Shane Rich, photoshopped the text messages that were submitted to The Sun a few weeks ago.”

Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: I think this is the first non military / non railway photo of Newbridge we have ever posted. There is a lot going on here and I think the megazoom via the catalogue link below is worth a look. Our eagle-eyed contributors have spotted a motor-car (possibly a Ford) further down the hill - which perhaps puts this image after the mid-1900s. There's a suggestion also that the man riding from the barracks is in military uniform - narrowing the range perhaps to before the mid-1920s (when the barracks was demilitarised). The 40-year range in the catalogue could therefore possibly be narrowed to a 20-year range earlier in the 20th C.... paulcooke3 of the Newbridge Local History Group comments that their research puts the date around 1916 and we are happy to go along with that. Cork History | National Heritage Week 2021
by Richard Forrest
As part of National Heritage Week 2021, we take a look back at some of the more interesting history stories discovered by Cork City Libraries’ Local Studies department.
The Botany of the Bohereens
Cork polymath, Richard Dowden, fell very sick to fever at the time of the Great Famine. During a slow recovery he eventually felt up to walks in the countryside near the city. During these he found he had leisure and energy enough for botanical exploration, one of his many diverse interests. This eventually resulted in the publication in 1852 of his “Walks After Wildflowers”, subtitled “The Botany of the Bohereens”. Richard prefaced his “botanical chit-chat” with the beautiful illustration you see here. But who was responsible for it? Well, it was a mystery lady whose name we at Local Studies would love to discover. Richard simply tells us that he had a kind lady friend “to thank for the pretty and tasteful illustrative vignette which ushers in these pages but I may not give her name, dear reader, without hurting her modest secrecy”.
Diddledum Club
Admit it! You’ve always wanted to know what a Diddledum Club was. A folk music band? An Alice in Wonderland Appreciation Society? Well, neither. Local Studies can now assuage your curiosity. A Diddledum Club was simply a savings club in times when money was scarce. Their heyday was before the foundation of the national Credit Union movement and they were especially popular in the run up to Christmas. Indeed, the Yuletide Diddledum Club was the most common variant. Usually a neighbourly-minded individual got the ball rolling by collecting penny subscriptions and handling the paperwork, before releasing funds back to the payees for a spending bonanza. Unfortunately, embezzling opportunities sometimes proved tempting and in 1938, a fowl plucker for a city centre firm was charged with fraudulently converting sums entrusted to her by her colleagues. The court decided she was more of a “muddler” than anything else and had gotten all mixed up. Although witnesses did say she was down in Crosshaven in August (living the high life?) Anxious to defer prison, His Lordship described the accused as “an old woman, a grandmother and not in the best of health”. In a similar case, a defendant was admonished for leaving her clients vainly calling out, “Alice, where art thou?” for their money. Maybe there is a Wonderland connection after all.
The Victoria Hospital – a Snapshot from 1921
This largely charitable hospital on Infirmary Road was established in 1874. One hundred years ago, it had 50 beds and treated 391 internal patients and 2,005 external. It began 1921 £80 in debit but reduced this to £28 by the close of the year. Here we see a photograph of a salubrious looking Children’s Ward. Note the rocking horse and the large toy cow! The Hospital Council had a fair representation of Sirs, Colonels, Ladies and even a Countess in 1921. The Tabitha Guild supplied most of the wants of the children’s wards, including 70 garments and £8 5s. 6d. for further purchases. The Annual Report 1921 has a nice informal tone. It mentions that £32 was spent on the installation of electric radiators and that the absence of floor covering on an upper floor was a source of considerable noise to those below. That problem was addressed with less expenses than expected. Now, time to have a hunt through our collections at Local Studies to see if we can find a photo of a children’s ward in the North Infirmary in 1921.
A Case of What Might Have Been!
Here is one proposal that was mooted when Cork was searching for a downstream crossing of the River Lee. The City was frantically looking for ways to ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic growth and our picture is from a report by a firm of consulting engineers drafted in 1980. The eventual outcome was, of course, the Jack Lynch Tunnel. Just as well, walks along the Marina wouldn’t have been half so pleasant. The Library’s Local Studies department will bring you more of these alternative futures in the near …. future!
John Fitzgerald’s Diary 1793
John Fitzgerald, teacher and convivialist lived on Drawbridge Street (behind today’s Easons) in the 1790s. He had an insatiable curiosity for events both local and international and has left us with an evocative record of his life and times. Here’s what was occupying John’s thoughts this week all of 238 years ago: July 7th: Drank a share of 12 pots of porter at Cotter’s. Paid John Connell, the barber, 2s. 6d. July 8th: A fine warm day. Commencement of the new moon. Bandon races began. Old potatoes 11 d. per wt. and coal 7s. a barrel. John Hely Hutchinson, our M.P., and Sir William Clarke, our Sheriff, are both now fighting in the entrenchments at Vallenciennes. July 9th: Beautiful weather. Met Dr. Orpen on Wandesford Bridge and he told me to walk as little as I could. July 10th: Fine and warm. 500 recruits from Dungannon arrived at Cork for embarkation. Frigates and transports at Cove to take away the 58th and 63rd Regiments. The journeymen bakers striking. July 11th: Three troops of horse came from Bandon to quell the rioters in Limerick. They stayed but an hour to refresh. July 12th: At break of day there were tremendous claps of thunder and heavy rain. Several flashes of lightning. Mr. Sandiford was buried. July 13th: Gloomy sky, slight rain and close. Patty Chamberlain’s gown was stolen. Took mutton broth for my dinner. Drank three tods at Bat Murphy’s with John Baily and Jack Conway.
The Fingerpost
A fingerpost is a traditional signpost consisting of one or more ‘fingers’. Erected in cast iron or wood, the poles were painted black or white and the fingers had black lettering on a white background. It is thought that the oldest in existence is in England and dates back to 1669. It points to Oxford, Warwick, 'Gloster' and 'Woster'. Recommendations from 1921 advised 21⁄2 or 3 inch high upper case lettering and, from 1933, that poles be of alternating black and white bands. Mileage is typically measured to the nearest quarter mile although fifths and eighths of a mile were used in parts of Scotland. Cork’s fine fingerpost example at Douglas shews the city 2 ¾ miles, Passage 4 ½ and Carrigaline 5 ½. A major review of road signage in Ireland was carried out in 1977.Just how old is our Douglas landmark? Well, for a century or more, the post served as the meeting point for the South Union Hunt. Mind, they would look lost on their horses on today’s modern roundabout! A Grand Jury presentment dating from 1845 tells us that road repairs was under way between “the gate of the Douglas Lunatic Asylum and the finger post”. Further back again, the old ballad has it that one of the brave 1798 men, Phil Carty, was tracked when slipping home “to old Donnybrook” and “his bosom bled from the cruel lead, of a well-aimed musket ball”. After that, his body was hung from “the Finger Post, where walks his ghost, that they made his gallows tree”. Though still standing proud and prominent, perhaps the post has already, in fact, gone the way of Phil’s ghost. The current occupant of the historic spot is a metal recreation from 2004!

"Street, Dublin City" .... is actually Navan by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: A street in Dublin City? While this is what the catalogue says, I really don't think so! But, if not Dublin, then where is it or even where was it? A busy hilly street somewhere in Ireland, where a Taoiseach might meet a man in a pub with a pint in each hand? At least they had the electric so dating may not be too hard... ... And we have confirmation that indeed this isn't Dublin, but Ludlow Street in Navan, County Meath. Derangedlemur very quickly set us straight, and while his explanation (that he's "memorised all of Google StreetView") was probably intended as a joke, sometimes I do wonder :) Beachcomber reminds us that we have previously seen other Eason photos of Navan similarly mislabelled - something to look out for in future... WHY OFF-WHITE SUCKS
By now we all know what Off-White is. The brand launched by Virgil Abloh, in 2013, that has taken over the street wear scene. As someone who has followed street wear and high fashion in equal measure, I am writing this piece to tell you all why I think Off-White sucks.
Off-White came to prominence because of its affiliation with a known Kanye West collaborator: Virgil Abloh. Abloh became Kanye West’s creative director in 2002, and went on to start his own brand, Pyrex, before shutting the doors of that project the same year he launched Off-White. Those who knew of Pyrex knew that Abloh was at the helm because of the headlines outing him as Kanye’s creative director. The two had frequently been seen attending fashion shows together in Paris, so when he announced his Pyrex line, the street wear community paid attention. The line didn’t do well. Screen-printed dead stock tees and Ralph Lauren shirts, sold for $225 and $550 respectively, didn’t attract the favor of many in the community. Though it did catch on with a select few ,who are now mocked in the street wear world, it was overall a failure. No matter, any designer associated with Kanye West will make the fashion world pay attention. This explains the rapid rise of Off-White: a brand that would likely be toiling in obscurity without its founder’s association with the icon that is Kanye West. Despite Abloh’s considerable prowess in producing the types of images and clothing that attract the social media generation, I wonder how Off-White would fare without any affiliation to Kanye West.
Abloh has said that his goal for his brand is to bring luxury to street wear; to make clothes for the kids who mix street wear with high fashion. He wants to, ironically, validate street wear; a clothing genre that has long been valid, without any aid from Abloh. Off-White designs are elementary and repetitive, and have been called out for being so. The designs alone aren’t enough to justify the prices (which are normally in the $500 - $1,000 range), so the fabrics, hopefully do more to justify the prices. That remains to be confirmed. Some who have reviewed Off-White pieces have denied that they are worth their price. Luckily, Off-White’s target consumers are generally apathetic to which fabrics are used to make the clothes. They initially bought into the brand because of Abloh’s association with Kanye West, and have remained loyal since. Abloh had the sense to collaborate with other prominent street wear and sneaker brands (such as Nike, VLONE, and Levi’s), keeping his young audience interested and dedicated to his clothes, even though those designs are usually just words added to already iconic products (i.e. the NikexOff-White sneaker collection). He has simply followed the now long-standing tradition of collaborating with other brands, avoiding designing himself.
Off-White is, none-the-less, is a very confusing brand. Compare their women’s offerings to the men’s, and it’s hard to believe that all the pieces come from the same brand. It seems as if Abloh forgot his ethos of bringing luxury to street wear, when designing the women’s clothing, and just tried to create luxury. Meanwhile, he has strictly street wear pieces on offer for men. That is odd. The lack of consistency in the brand makes the brand seem very amateur, and the lack of aspiration in the brand is made worse by its uninspired, repetitive, apathetic designs. I know I have repeated that sentiment, but I have done so to reiterate my disdain for what Off-White produces. Abloh claims to have deliberately eschewed the choice of branding his line as high fashion or street wear (something his customers don’t seem too fussed about) but, would anyone buy from his disjointed brand had it not been so popular already? Would houses like Valentino or Balmain get away with offering such confused collections? I don’t think so, but you can decide for yourself.
One thing Abloh certainly understands is how to reach his target. He has all but mastered social media marketing and wears his own products. He is regularly seen in his own wares, promoting the terrible style that he has made so popular. At this point, for me, it is difficult to understand why he was the only American to be chosen as a finalist for the LVMH Young Designer award in 2015. Having a designer who worked for Kanye West as a finalist was great marketing for both parties, making the award an unnecessary formality for Off-White*. Seeing how Off-White has evolved since then, I am certainly hoping Abloh doesn’t fulfill his ambition of ruining , ahem, I mean running, a luxury house the way Demna Gvasalia has at Balenciaga. He has expressed a desire to helm a luxury house, but would only ruin it in my opinion (again, just as Gvasalia has at Balenciaga). I understand that younger consumers are mixing street wear with high fashion, but they do it very poorly, and, in most cases, should not be doing it at all. Luxury houses create aspirational clothing. It is supposed to be worn well, with other pieces that create a refined, elegant, and powerful style; not just something copied from what is seen on Instagram, to create an even more senseless look than what was seen on Instagram, to be photographed and posted back to social media. Unfortunately, fashion magazines have increasingly become nothing more than social commentaries with photos and articles about anything other than fashion; making them useless for anyone looking for real fashion inspiration outside of social media and Google searches. I miss the days of Nicholas Ghesguiere and Christophe Decarnin at the helm of Balenciaga and Balmain, respectively. They both brought inspiration and originality to the brands for which they worked, and made consumers feel great in their clothes. They attracted attention with the quality of their designs and created trends (especially in the case of Decarnin) instead of just serving them.
Despite his claims about not being a celebrity designer, Abloh has long passed any chance of staying out of the limelight, and has entered firmly into an era of celebrity designers who produce very sub-par clothing. I hope there are plenty of designers out there who are not following this model and are focusing on creating beautiful clothing, not just poorly designed street luxury, without any actual luxury. That is Off-White, and, that, to me, is why Off-White sucks.
That said. There is one piece by Off-White that I wouldn’t mind in my closet. Yes, only one piece. That piece is the men’s jeans with the stripes at the bottom back of each pant leg. That’s it. That piece is the only one I would wear. However, I’m not willing to spend a few hundred dollars on them. That money would be better spent elsewhere.
*Off-White did not win the LVMH Designer prize

INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL apple is able-bodied acquainted that the Indianapolis Colts called Washington quarterback Jacob Eason in the fourth annular of the contempo NFL draft.

‘Puppy Mill’
This is extremely unhappy. Not solely did you buy one other dog you will not correctly take care of, however you additionally supported an Amish pet mill. So unhappy.

Based on Evans’ story of adopting Rosey from a girl she met on Craigslist, many followers inferred that Rosey got here from a “puppy mill” — an unfit breeder the place puppies are mistreated. Animal lovers despise these locations for mistreating animals and typically leaving them bodily or mentally scarred for all times.
Confusion
She tagged TMZ… my guess is Yes. Yes, she does.

"Street, Dublin City" .... is actually Navan by National Library of Ireland on The Commons A street in Dublin City? Towering above the town by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: Drogheda, an ancient town at the mouth of the River Boyne, with a long and distinguished history, and many reminders of its architectural splendours. The Magdalen Tower is one of the most prominent, jutting up like a last remaining tooth in the mouth of an old man. The surrounding area is much more developed now, so can the existing buildings help us to date the photo? +++ UPDATE +++ Bonzer that an article in an Adelaide, South Australia newspaper – the Southern Cross – gave us a narrower date for this one. Our roving Australian correspondent, beachcomber australia found an article describing the installation of railings around the Magdalen Tower on 15 August 1906. So this one drops from a date range of 40 years, to 6 years, i.e. 1900 to August 1906. Photographer: Unknown Collection: Eason Photographic Collection Date: between 1900-1939 and August 1906 (before railings were erected around the tower!) Church (Ruins), Waterville, Co. Kerry by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: Labelled as "St. Fininan's Church (Ruins), Waterville, Co. Kerry", we have an interesting photo from the Eason Collection to start off the week. We are in the Kingdom, and as a Dub I am happy to visit Kerry at any time, but I am always happier to visit when "Sam Maguire" is residing in the Capital. (The Dub Mary!) Based on input from Mosskayree, and corroberation from B-59, we have added this photo to our "Possible Cagalogue Correction" tag. It seems that this is actually very likely Derrynane Abbey, on the appropriately named Abbey Island, near the town of Caherdaniel in County Kerry. Mossy and beachcomberaustralia offer some additional detail on the history and folklore surrounding the abbey in the comments - including its connection to the O'Connell family of Derrynane.....
