Honestly my number one pet peeve about Migurl fanfic is that SO MANY PEOPLE write him saying “fuck” when 2099 canon dictates that “shock” is the new “fuck”. Like he straight up says “real fun cleaning up your FUCKING mess” in 2099 speak. And he says it ALL THE TIME in the comics, too. He has the biggest shocking potty mouth, you guys.

Miguel O’Hara: A comprehensive reading guide

I honestly don’t know if this has been done yet, and considering that there are multiple different main canons for Miguel, it’s even more confusing on where to start.

To clarify, there is 3 different “Mainstream” universes for Miguel. Earth 928 (The main universe for most Miguel media), Earth-2099, and Earth-6375 (The universe where he’s part of the exiles)

I’m gonna be starting with

(Note: I’ll try to put these in order as much as possible, but due to retcons and other things like Spiderverse it may not be 100% accurate)

Miguel: It’s unlikely we recruited a Spider-based hero who has no variations of Spider-Man’s enemies.

Arachnis: That should be a good thing since we’re already dealing with doppelgängers stealing our power source. *Hooks up their tablet to the computer*

Peter B. Parker: What are you about to show us?

Arachnis: Video feeds of the agents doing their duties. Lyla, is everything ready?

Lyla: Yep! *Plays the video*

Peter B. Parker: What’s with the music?

Arachnis: Sorry. My colleague, Cypher edited these videos and he likes to add dramatization to everything.

Miguel: This is where we caught the Goblin variant.

Arachnis: Yeah, back on Omega Earth where I freaked out because we were on their territory.

Peter B. Parker: Huh. Sounds like you two had fun on your “date”.

Miguel & Arachnis: We’re not dating.

Lyla: Wow. You have so many video feeds. *Plays another one*

Peter B. Parker: *Growing concern* Are you sure this alright to watch this?

Arachnis: Peter, everything is heavily edited in case newly recruited agents are too squeamish when reviewing these feeds.

Peter B. Parker: What if the kids see these videos?

Arachnis: I added a passcode to the feeds for security reasons and only agents can access them. *Points to themselves*

Lyla: *Plays another feed* These look fun.

Arachnis: Oh yeah. For odd reasons, he likes to add titles and thumbnails like if they’re cinematic episodes or something.

Peter B. Parker: You have a training bot?

Arachnis: We had one, but everyone destroyed the thing. Originally, it was a cleaner bot and some agents decided to rebuild it as a killing machine for petty games, and it was completely demolished because it tried to eliminate us all.

Peter B. Parker: Oh. At least you’re okay.

Miguel: [Y/N], why aren’t you in any of these feeds?

Arachnis: I wasn’t recruited yet until later and had stealth missions during those times. I have some clips with me in them. *Shows some exclusive feeds to Miguel from their phone*

Miguel: *Watching intently* *Secretly impressed by their performance and gets surprised by the killing spree*

Arachnis: Ah fuck. Sorry. I forgot those parts. Some guards spotted me and I had to fight back.

[Peter lifts off the flap that is attached to the funnel web and he finds a surprise inside.]

Arachnis: *Quietly napping with Mayday on their chest in the funnel-shaped web hammock*

Peter B. Parker: Awww. *Pulls out his phone and snaps some images*

Arachnis: *Wakes up drowsy and yawns* Huh? Peter?

Mayday: *Also wakes up and yawns* *Adorably rubs her eyes*

Peter B. Parker: Morning, sleepyheads.

Arachnis: *Takes out their mouth guards* Bleh.

Arachnis: No, these are mouth guards. I can’t retract my fangs and don’t want to hurt Mayday.

Arachnis: Just an hour ago. It’s pretty easy when your role is Sentinel on missions.

It was an unusually busy day for Miguel O'Hara, the Spider-Man of Earth-928. His mind was burdened with growing insecurities despite his bravery and unwavering dedication to keeping the Multiverse safe and sound.

As he watched one of the many footages on the screens displaying various universes, Miguel caught sight of his reflection.

His eyes immediately fixated on the bags under his eyes, a clear sign of his lack of sleep.

However, that wasn't what bothered him. His fangs, red eyes, and retractile talons, inherited from his genetic alterations, were always difficult to conceal, even among other Spider-people who did not need to hide such features.

When he wasn't wearing his blue and red costume, he hid his sensitive eyes behind sunglasses.

This not only protected them from the light but also shielded them from the scrutiny of others.

However, his fangs were almost impossible to hide. They were visible when he spoke, no matter how hard he tried to minimize opening his mouth. Moreover, speaking with venom-injecting canines was a challenge.

Keeping the talons on his fingertips hidden in public required great concentration, and he vividly remembered the struggle to avoid accidentally hurting his daughter.

Miguel always feared appearing monstrous to the people he cared about and to those, he worked so hard to protect.

He marveled at other Spiders' ability to anticipate danger, to react with split-second timing, and to dodge incoming attacks effortlessly thanks to their "Spider-sense" which he lacked, a true disadvantage in battle.

Miguel sighed, he couldn't dwell on his insecurities forever, especially with a world in need of saving.

At that very moment, his communicator buzzed, and Lyla popped into view.

"What?" he asked without even looking at her.

"Miguel, they need your help on earth-78," she said, her voice brimming with urgency.

"Tell them I'm on my way" He took a deep breath, determined to face the challenges ahead and to prove to himself that he was worthy of the title he bore.

Every day for him was a constant challenge to redeem himself from the pain he caused.

Arrived at his destination Miguel saw the city quaked under the onslaught of a giant insectoid monster.

The adrenaline started to pulse through his veins and without even realizing it, he was already fighting along with the others.

"Strike its weak spots! Aim for its legs and its eyes to blind it!" he shouted as he danced around the creature's limbs, striking with precision.

"Sonic blast incoming, people!" Hobie's sonic waves rattled its exoskeleton, making the monster screech in pain.

Miles electrified his attacks, while Pavitr used mystic webs to ensnare it.

Gwen weaved a web cage, immobilizing the monster.

Together, they delivered a final, united assault, shattering its defenses and overpowering the colossal threat.

Miguel watched the kids celebrating their recent victory.

The crowd around them grew, joining in with enthusiastic shouts and applause, swept up in the contagious excitement.

"Hey!" Miles called out, his voice cutting through the commotion.

He had noticed that the Spider-Man of 2099 was preparing to depart, one foot already into the portal that would transport him to headquarters.

"These cheers are meant for you too! Don't leave so soon! These people want to express their gratitude. We've just saved their lives" the young boy implored, attempting to sway Miguel's decision.

However, Miguel had already decided.

Back at the headquarters, O'Hara found himself once again fixated on the numerous screens before him.

"Hey, kid!" The familiar voice caught him off guard.

"Parker, don't be so sneaky!" Miguel hissed.

"Yeah, yeah, listen. I simply wanted to congratulate you on your latest mission. Lyla informed me" Peter commented, a warm smile playing on his lips.

Across Peter's chest was securely strapped his daughter, May.

The little girl beamed at Miguel, her tiny, chubby hand waving a friendly hello.

"In truth, it could have ended more quickly. There exist numerous Spider-Persons possessing incredible strength and power than myself... and with less fierce appearances," Miguel lamented.

"Miguel, look at May," Peter interrupted him.

Confused, Miguel replied, "What?"

"Look at my daughter. Does she appear frightened?" Peter gestured towards his precious bundle of joy, her ginger locks framing her face. "No, she isn't. Do you know why?"

Miguel hesitated, then nodded.

"Because she sees another Spider-Man, like her daddy. She does see your fangs, your red eyes, or your talons. She sees a hero who saves lives and recognizes all the good you've done and keeps on doing"

"We are all unique, Miguel. That is our strength. There is no shame in being different" and with those words of motivation, Peter left.

Miguel just stood there, silent and lost in his thoughts.

Peter's words kept replaying in his head, slowly pushing aside all the doubts that had been weighing him down.

He glanced at the screens, at the excited kids and the thankful crowd still surrounding them, and it hit him: he had made a positive impact on their lives.

His special powers—the fangs, red eyes, and talons—weren't something to hide or feel embarrassed about.

They were a part of his identity, and he finally understood that.

This guide is still a work in progress, there's definitely issues I'm missing, including cross over events and diverting timelines. I also might include legacy numbers in future edits. Read wherever you get comics from. This is just a reading order. If you can get an omnibus, those are easiest to follow IMO. Asterisks indicate branching timelines.

Volume 1 (Published 1992 - 1996. Takes place in 2099)

As someone who's only been reading comics for a year and is probably not qualified to run this blog, I honestly don't know how you're supposed to have followed along with this,

- The Amazing Spider-Man (2015) Issue 1. Again, only the very last section is relevant, as a standalone comic.

Volume 3 (Published between 2015 - 2017. Takes place going between 2015~ and 2099)

- Spider-man 2099 Volume 3 Issues 1*⁴ - 25.

*⁴ = not at branching timeline, but rather an incursion event. Volume 3 features characters from battlefield 2099 world, which I'm yet to cover.

And that's IT! After Volume 3 issue 25, if you go read the current Symbiote run, you're good to go. There's nothing else after this. Nothing.

(God, I'm going to have to cover Orlando's run eventually, aren't I. That's at the very bottom of my list, so don't count on it.)

Additional Branching Timelines / Unsorted bits

It wouldn't be a marvel series without other possible endings, would it? Even if Earth-928 is already a branching possibility from Earth-616, this too had a few other ways things could have gone.

This is more of a to-do list than anything else, or a list of series I haven't (yet!) added to this guide.

- The battleworld 2099 series. I've forgotten the name as of time of writing this.

- 2099 Unlimited. This takes place alongside volume 1, but doesn't seem to have specific inbetween orders (at least not at a glance). I suppose you could read volume 1 and then read through this? The stories in there don't interrupt the main S-M 2099 story.

- Formatting, adding sections distinguishing between volumes

Latest edits (6/01)

- Added a lime for "2099: Manifest Destiny" and removed it from the unsorted section

- Moved "Spider-Man 2099 Special" to it's location in the omnibook; between Volume 1 Issue 41 and "Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-man"
