on the monday after jeddah, eurosport fr dropped an episode of their podcast "les fous du volant" and one of the topics was, obviously, her. Scuderia Ferrari.
normally i wouldn't pay as much attention as to italian/british media but given that we have a stronger french presence in Ferrari again, i think these reports shouldn't be completely ignored. so, i listened to it and i did some notes, in case you guys missed it.
so, from 27:31, they talk about how the current performance and expectations for the season are just the tip of the iceberg. i split it into general topics, stuff that is important to note is in bold:
gino rosato: his function was external relations (link up and host the VIPs + any other task that involved dealing with the world outside of maranello); joined Ferrari before jean todt but just as an occasional freelancer - todt made him a full time employer; montezemolo and kimi protected him. he left with kimi in 2009 and came back with him in 2014; main feeling is that his role was more politic than it seemed and he acted as a supervisor of both inner and outer Ferrari at times; vigna took the Scuderia by his own hands when he came in and rosato was let go; since his role was such an insider role, he is the main suspect for the yapping to the italian press; vasseur's arrival tackled the binotto clan and started to dismantle it; bonus joke about rosato moving to AM.
laurent mekies: he was being prepped to become binotto's successor with his career evolution; vasseur reworked his role inside Ferrari after the restructuring that happened last year; the two studied in the same uni; he had several proposals (f1, fia, alpine/hyvia) in december but vasseur vetoed his exit; vasseur is inquired (probably by the board of directors) on how and why he's taking these choices of breaking up the binotto clan;
david sanchez: sanchez wouldn't have been let go easily with only vasseur's demand, means elkann authorised the move and is behind fred; thus, when vasseur says he has a lot of freedom, he probably means it; it's a matter of recreating the team culture; sanchez's move possibly opens a precedent for later moves: enrico cardille (head of chassis area) is close to his end of contract, yet to see if he is going to be retained as well since he is part of the binotto clan and he was part of the sf23 design team; sanchez fired after discussion w/ charles at training is at the very least interesting (they lowkey imply it was the final nail in the coffin); discussion as to whether Ferrari considers this year finished and must be sacrificed to develop 2024 or not - usually upgrades are anticipated in february according to what engineers might feel the car will require in the upcoming races, but we're yet to see if with the 2023 car will be affected by role changes.
drivers: discussion on their approach to charles and how he felt he could have done more in jeddah if he was ahead of carlos; charles would have indeed inquired elkann on future plans for the team and the structure of Ferrari; they cite that his contract will end in 2024 and lots of teams might try to seduce him for 2025; sainz in an awkward role as no2 but not quite openly, also could rethink his future.
the most interesting thing is the link to gino rosato as the possible leaker (he truly is one of kimi's closest friends, and was in Ferrari for nearly 30 years if you add his two stints up, but then again we never expected stepney to do spygate innit). i saw a few other outlets also name jonathan giacobazzi (executive race manager, whatever the fuck that means) as another possible whistleblower (he was let go together with gino) but i heard of no such thing in this podcast, at least. we'll stay tuned. forza Ferrari!

A Study in Coaching
LONG POST ALERT!
While scrolling through my old posts, I came across those on the Dolezal drama at the end of season 2021/2022. I'll link it somewhere (if I find the will to do so) if you missed this. I remember Kamil saying he regretted his emotional interviews in Planica and felt stupid afterwards. The drama went on for a couple more days/weeks if I recall and ofc Adam Małysz, now chairman of Polish Ski Federation (PZN in Polish), stated that coach Dolezal was offered to continue in his role but he kept leading PZN on, kept being indecisive. And for some reason, men in our country believed Małysz's story, even though he's done and said awful things but they were about women, not them, so ofc they didn't give a shit. I remain skeptical to this day.
If I were to provide a reason as to why Polish "male fans" disliked Dolezal throughout his stay as the main coach, I'd say it was because he wasn't Horngacher. See, Polish men (and not only them but you get it) tend to think that the only good approach to coaching is through aggression. And it doesn't apply to ski jumping only, of course. While I do appreciate everything Horngacher's done for our team, I think he had this aura of a very strict, unlikeable person, with a resting bitch face at that. He rarely talked to any media, he even went as far as to forbid Żyła to talk to journalists - and they were days when he forbade the rest to do it, too. He would often cut off their interviews, even though they weren't long or too releaving. To be fair, Żyła was involved in a scandal including his divorce - it's a long story but it could have been kept quiet had his wife stopped herself from flooding social media with accusatory Instagram posts - photos, videos etc. (There were even rumours about supposed unfaithfulness, first only on Piotrek's side, then on hers, too. But I digress...). I'm not sure how he is now in Germany but I guess he just came to Poland prepared, knowing that the social media frenzy around ski jumping here can be more overwhelming than in Germany. But it was thought he was a very strict, non-compromising coach and ofc men LOVED IT, while majority of "female fans" remained careful with their opinions (ofc, I'm oversimplifying, it wasn't all men and all women). On the other hand, it's during his time when the legendary "BBQ parties" started and he was the one to teach Żyła how to play guitar. As usual in life, things rarely are black&white.
When Horngacher left, Dolezal decided to stay with the team despite a very lucrative offer from DSV and Horngacher's insisting. I'm pretty confident when I say this: within the last decade, Dolezal was the only coach our team had such a strong friendship vibe with. You could see it in the interviews, during competitions, in all off-camera moments, in the small things. They even called themselves "Dodo's mafia" at some point. I personally loved it but many "male experts" in our country were very appalled by this and that's how the gossip was born - that Dolezal had a good first season only because we "ran on Horngacher's leftovers".
I'm not sure how the relationship with Thurnbichler looks like now - many were concerned before it started as the coach is younger than most of our ski jumpers - at least the "prominent" ones. If I were to say on my own, I'd say it's the most distant/professional from all the last four/five coaches. Kamil made a comment, last year, I believe, which many treated as a "nose flick" towards Dolezal's and/or Horngacher's team - that this is the most professional team he has ever worked with. But I don't have a problem with this, not at all.
What I have a problem with is Adam Małysz, unfortunately. In one of the last Eurosport studios, it was suggested that his patience with Thurnbichler is wearing thin. Yeah, the season is looking bad but Thurnbichler was asked to change something around the preparation system and like inventions in any other life matter, this one involved risk and it didn't work out! (The guys had time off right before the start of the season when everyone else was perfecting their technique). Thurnbichler's contract is set to expire in 2026, after the Winter Olympics in Turin but the fact that after a month of bad season Małysz's patience is wearing thin? Ridiculous. Not to mention, he seemed to have chosen Dolezal as his victim - maybe he sensed he was easier to work with than Horngacher, hence additional responsibilities (Horngacher strictly refused to help out our B team and one of the conditions of his contract was focus on the A team - he did have drop-ins at B's trainings and gave a hint or two but refused to overlook two large groups at a time; I think the dislike towards him after his departure was mostly related to the fact that he used our team to improve his resume, make an impression on DSV to be finally accepted as the head coach there) and the CONSTANT PUBLIC CRITICISM! Not only towards Dolezal but towards the jumpers, too! I was surprised to find out that Kubacki is on speaking terms with Małysz because he slandered him in the media on regular basis. Maybe someone smart suggested to Adam that he stop speaking publicly about his discontentment with the results and leave this kind of conversations for closed door opportunities.
The other thing about him - even though he was quick to sack Dolezal and is "running out of patience" with Thurnbichler, he defended Kruczek in his role as the head coach for ladies. Kruczek kept saying that "they would never be good enough to get real results", kept complaining on "their being emotional", their supposed "constant disagreements". They both even went as far as to say the ladies were "too fat" to ever be successful and that they refused to lose weight. Małysz additionally stated (and no, not YEARS AGO, but very recently) that "women shouldn't do sports, especially ski jumping, as it affects their uterus". Yes, that was the shitty excuse men used to ban women from professional sport until very recently (1970', I believe?) and no wonder it came from a man, with no basic knowledge on human biology. When people demanded Kruczek was sacked, he refused to do so, stating it was "the girls' fault, not his". But after many protests from the fans, Kruczek was eventually fired and nowadays, ladies have a new coach, Harald Rodlauer. His position remains untouched, thought, as he said it would take years to fix the damage that was done to the team.
If PZN seriously decides to sack Thurnbichler after this season, I don't know who would be open to cooperation with them. All good coached went through us and probably left traumatised. We can't afford (financially) the best ones like Schuster (who was very eager to work with us but his salary was way over our budget). They all heard about our struggles, they know we have no real "backup", no youth - our jumpers can't even qualify in ContiCup! Many people wanted Tajner out of PZN, hoping Małysz, knowing the environment from the inside, would bring new hope, new light, new ideas and trust for the chairman. Nothing of the sort happened - if anything, he clearly states that he's focused on financing and results and that he won't ask for more sponsors until he sees them.
Anyway. Felt like talking because the constant complaining in the studio gets on my nerves. I'm a fan, too - imagine that! Do I sometimes feel frustrated my favs aren't faving? Yes. Do I keep reminding people how miserable we are every weekend? No. And while results should be the main focus, I think that pressuring everyone involved while giving nothing back is not to way to get them.
[Sorry for all the errors to the two people who will read this post in full]

Bloody jet lag
We slept like the dead Sunday night, much needed. Monday was spent essentially moving back into the apartment, meaning unpacking our two locked cupboards and unpacking what we’d brought back from Oz. We also did a grocery shop.
When not unpacking we watched Paris Nice and Tirreno Adriatico on German Eurosport. I’m already missing English tv 😩
Around 3pm we were fading fast, thankfully late afternoon Cathy and Charlie came over, which kept us going for a bit. It was so lovely to see them and a bit surreal for them as they had only moved out on Friday. Lots to catch up on and discuss!
We managed to soldier on to 8-9pm (I can’t remember where exactly in there) before surrendering to sleep.
Naturally for our second night by 2:45am we were sitting up in bed drinking cups of tea 🙄 Jose managed to get a little more sleep but by 6am we’d given up and were having our morning coffee in bed.
We’ve had an unwelcome surprise since we arrived. Jose was having trouble getting picture on most of the tv channels. After wrestling with it this morning we discovered that Spanish tv no longer airs in standard definition and our tv is so old it doesn’t have high definition.
We’ve been talking about getting a new tv so now we just have to get on with it, except given this only came into effect early February there’s about a 2 week delay from when you order your new tv. Thankfully we can get German Eurosport so we can watch the cycling.
Mid morning we went out and did some shopping (including looking for a new tv) enjoying the morning sun. Then it was home for lunch and to watch Paris Nice and Tirreno Adriatico before we headed up to Marjolein to pick up our mountain bikes.
We started to fade late afternoon so it was a quiet afternoon into evening watching movies on the nebula. It’s now just after 8:30pm and I’m about to roll over and go to sleep 😴

While the NBC broadcast of 2003 Worlds Team Finals has its drawbacks, I will forever be grateful to it for giving us Carly’s “that’s too bad” moment.
The NBC broadcast is actually a masterpiece in narrative and other than missing the Australia story it's probably the second best version (excluding Elfi's "so little talent").
I'd actually say the worst version is the Eurosport version. It's very clearly two commentators commentating over a tape with no knowledge of what else is happening. They verbally wonder what happened to Russia and never explain it, and at one point misidentify a gymnast because and say it's because their notes for the video were in the wrong order. And they show none of the disasters. If you watched the Eurosport version of this messy final you'd think it was boring and have no idea how the placements happened.

I just woke up and what the actual hell did I miss in women's?
It was like watching the fallout of years of abuse in slow motion go down right in front of our eyes. It's been hours and I'm still shaken from it.
It was Kamila Valieva completely falling apart in front of our eyes in her FS, looking like a shadow of herself, like she doesn't want to be there, like she's barely hanging on, and even the way she gestured with her hand after the FS was over was telling. Will she even see her compete again? Will she recover from this nightmare? From the damage that was done to her? From how she might be treated by her coaches and the Russian media?
It was Sasha Trusova having a complete meltdown because she didn't win gold. I don't think I've ever seen a skater react like that to a loss. She was crying and screaming on camera, refusing to talk to her coaches, refusing to go on the podium, saying she hates everything and that she hates the ice and the sport. She was told repeatedly that she can win if she will land 5 quads, then she did and she lost to a teammate of hers who only landed two. Then she was crying because she's been away from her mother and her dogs for over three weeks.
It was Anna Shcherbakova looking like she is attending a funeral after she won saying she feels "emotionally empty" after winning.
It was watching the post-event footage that Eurosport kept playing of Kamila sobbing and looking devastated, and Sasha sobbing and screaming because she "only" won silver (can you imagine if these girls were actually scored correctly?) and then of Anna sitting alone in the K&C looking shell shocked.
It was Kaori, the truly rightful medalist, sobbing and being shell-shocked herself while coming to terms with her win instead of feeling just elation.
It was watching Wakaba once again being robbed.
It's the thought about EVERY OTHER CLEAN SKATER who had to live through this nightmare and have their Olympic experience tainted by this mess.
It's the fear that things won't change after this.
But hey, as long as CAS didn't allow these girls to suffer "Irreparable Harm" right?

Siggy and Hendrik betrayed me
See, I thought these two (German Eurosport commentators) were my bros, because I remember their amazing freak-outs over Rika in 2018 and their commentary about Wakaba’s low score in the Olympic SP was amazing.
But then I did this thing where because I didn’t want continue watching the Women’s shitshow I went back to watch only Yuzu’s performances AKA the only good part of these Olys that I’ve seen so far, and listened to them (and other commentators) freak out about the 4A.
And then I got curious to see if they’d said anything about the judging, so I skipped through their further commentary for the Men’s FS a bit and... I don’t get it. One the one hand they made a few valid points (like that the base value of a 4A should be way higher than it is), and there were some scoring decisions they critizied, but as soon as we reached the top 3, it was like the critical parts of their brains had been turned off.
And now I wonder if I’m the one with tomatoes on my eyes” because I just honestly don’t understand what anyone sees in Nathan’s skating. After NC’s skate, they said this:
Hendrik: “It’s incredible how it’s possible to jump that many quads and still have a memorable program, a program that has more to offer than just jumps.”
Siggy: “Can you.. can you... I don’t know, can you say it? This is, at this point in time, really the greatest figure skater of all time, right?.”
Hendrik: “Yes, yes. Without a doubt. Without a doubt, he dethrones Hanyu there.”
Siggy: “Yes!”
Hendrik: “Not just here in this competition, but in general, because... it’s incredible that something like this is possible.”
--------
And I’m here like... what?? I literally went back and actually watched Nathan’s performance (I hadn’t bothered until then) because I wanted to see what was possibly so amazing there. I thought ‘okay, maybe I’m being biased and missed something because I didn’t even watch it’, but then I watched it and... WHAT??? How.... how are they head over heels for this?? “Memorable program”? Bitch, where? It was literally just a bunch of crossovers with jumps and one bit of weird dance choreo?? That’s it? And that’s what you’re calling someone the GOAT over?? For a bunch of crossovers? Heck, *I* can do crossovers! Like, what?? What am I not seeing? What else is there in this program besides jumps (which aren’t even as good as Yuzu’s)? How does someone honeslty watch this and then pretend it’s some masterpiece?
And the weird thing is - Siggy and Hendrik were partially critical of the scoring until that point, but only in select places. For instance, they complained about Jason’s PCS supposedly being too high because, in their words: “Six points above Hanyu - above Hanyu!! - that’s a joke.” And I do partially agree with that - not in the sense that I think Jason doesn’t deserve very high PCS, but in the sense that Yuzu being six whole points behind that isn’t right.
But then, when freaking Nathan got an even higher PCS than Jason.. crickets, not one critical word from Siggy and Hendrik. And come on, really? You complain about Jason’s PCS being too high in comparison to Yuzu (fair), but then you don’t say a word when Nathan, who should be way behind both of them there, gets the highest PCS of the day?
And another thing is that they literally pointed out Shoma’s underrotations and even said that Yuzu should get bronze if those get deducted properly... but when Shoma’s score came up they just went “Huh, guess they didn’t deduct anything” without pointing out that that’s... you know, unfair??
----------
And what really gets me is that it’s not just Siggy and Hendrik. I switched around between languages on Eurosport player a bit and there was not a single commentator who wasn’t singing Nathan’s praises. NOT A SINGLE ONE. (Granted, I don’t speak all of those languages, but you can generally tell by tone and so on if someone’s excited or not.)
The way they were raving about him and calling him the GOAT (🔪🔪🔪) over a skate that was just mediocre AF... it makes me feel like all these commentators watched a different performance, like they think this sport is something else than what I think it is or like they’re all trying to gaslight us. (I’m glad that the general public didn’t fall for it, though. Seeing so many casual watchers point out that ‘this performance was awful, actually’ felt SO SATISFYING. We’re not crazy after all.)
And I get that as a commentator at the Olympics you maybe can’t straight-up say “Actually, this entire sport is just one big unfair ball of corruption and shouldn’t be an Olympic sport”, but I wonder when someone will finally point out that the emperor’s actually not wearing any clothes.
(Speaking of clothes, Nathan Chen’s figure skating outfits themselves should give him a 10 point deduction, and I say this completely unironically. It’s his business that he’s an insecure straight guy with fragile masculinity and therfore allergic to sparkles or whatever, but it’s actually possible to wear outfits that look masculine and still not like complete shit - just look at a whole bunch of the other male skaters for examples.)
#Figure skating#Olympics 2022#Siggy Heinrich#Hendrik Schaumberger#Yuzuru Hanyu#DESERVES BETTER#not gonna tag nc but like... he still can't skate for shit so...#have fun with your fake medal you poor straight guy

Do you know if one can see the tribute video somewhere that was on during Roger's retirement ceremony, before Roger gave the interview? I'd love to see it. I saw footage of Roger and Rafa watching it and at the end I heard Rafa talk about all the special moments they had together and that he'll never feel like that again, and then the video was over and he was, like, frozen, it looked like he was trying so hard not to cry, he couldn't even look at Roger or anything :(
Just getting round to answering my ask inbox (sorry guys! I completely missed some of them)
Hello anon!! Unfortunately no, I've never seen anyone posting it or at least managed to record it. I suppose everyone was just too busy crying at that moment unfortunately 🥺🥺
But worry not, as always is with this kind of content, i'm 100% sure it will surface later on! I'm pretty sure at least Eurosport has the whole recording of the whole ceremony. If not, we have the netflix documentary to look forward to!
But if I recall collectly, it was a tribute video featuring messages from all the Laver Cup players, they also included matches they've had with Roger. Rafa's one was fittingly the last one, and they mostly used footage from their first doubles together, completed with rafa saying "i will never feel like this again for the rest of my life"
#so there you have it anon ur real life romeo and juliet#fingers crossed for the footage#ask#tennis#fedal

hiya! you might've answered this already? maybe not. sorry if you have! I tried going back on your page to look for it but couldn't find it as quick as I was looking for it haha.
anyways, you're Dutch or live in the Netherlands right? do you know where we could possibly watch the games? I know NOS is showing all Dutch involved sports, and I also found Eurosport1 is showing quite some. but I couldn't perse find the USWNT of tomorrow.
I saw that by getting a discovery+ account I could watch every single sport but I want to be sure first of other options before I get myself chained to another tv streaming deal lol
would love to hear your tips and if you have any knowledge on where to watch them. thanks in advance!
Tbh dude, i wouldn't be able to tell you. I don't know why but the NOS has the insane habit of not producing schedules, just vibes. They have all the rights along with Eurosport, but they refuse to give any insight into what game will be available to watch through a live stream.
The Dutch game is on live tv (npo/nos), the US game is not but it may still be available on the NOS website, that's truly all i know at this point. I have an incredible amount of English links for the US game, but i have no clue if the NOS will even be live streaming it.
If you want to see everything (or even just woso) i think Eurosport is your best bet. With the Nos you know they will also be switching between events so you may be watching and missing parts of the game.
With the discovery+ account you can watch all the games start to finish and you can watch games at the same time, it's also ad free. For 5,99 that's a steal and you can simply cancel after the first month because the Olympics will be over.
#ask#woso#uswnt#oranje leewinnen#honestly don't count on the NOS to do anything well is my rule#sometimes they surprise you but if you're banking on their streams you will be watching random sports half the time because they switched#i got the discovery+#it's worth the money and the streams are usually pretty good#all the streams for tomorrow are already in the schedule

Day 1 - Tell us a little about yourself and how you started to watch ski jumping
Well, hello there, I’m Zosia, 26 y/o from Poland 😊
I started the same way as most Poles of my generation – in 2001, my first memories of ski jumping being Małysz’s win in 4HT 2000/01. But that’s not what brought me to fandom here, on Tumblr. It started with depression I had in early 2016. Ever since I began recovering from it, I’ve been finding joy again in things that I liked as a child. One of those turned out to be ski jumping. To name the very moment, it was 1st January 2017. I’ve been spending New Year’s Day at my friend’s place, after celebrations I had a little hangover. I ended up watching TV with her mother. Polish house, New Year’s Day, what else could be on? Ski jumping, 4HT, Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Until that day, I haven’t really watched sj for like 6-7 years. Yet, as I was watching, familiar names started to pop up. Name of location clicked immediately – I could recite it no problem. I stayed until the end of a comp, remember it was Daniel who won it, with Kamil right behind him (also imagine my surprise when learning there’s not one, but three members of the Prevc family in one comp 😂). Innsbruck I wasn’t watching – friend’s mom felt however sj sparked my interest and told me the results. Bischofshofen I followed on my own – via text transmission – didn’t know you could watch it on TVP Sport’s site back then 😅 For a month I lived like that and then found not-very-legal stream of Eurosport – for a different reason than sj, but with my dumb luck, the next thing transmitted after what I was watching, was sj, this time Oberstdorf. And what a meme fest that was! Paper planes, waiting game, Robert Lewandowski coming and what not. I am hooked ever since and hardly missed any competition. Fandom on Tumblr I discovered the week Sapporo 2017 was. Oh, and right before Planica 2017 the streaming site was taken down and I moved to legal Eurosport 😂
Was supposed to be “a little”, is not, I had a lot to say, enjoy 😘
