somewhat linked to my other post here about the crestwood scene, he can't keep getting away with this
he just can't help himself from holding her hands, even if he's about to reveal a soul-shattering truth, or in trespasser's case, remove her other arm

Now, I'm sure someone's already thought of this but nontheless; what crossed my mind was the fact that Solas is used as a mirror to the Inquisitor figuratively as well as a literary device, and I thought of a new example.
He mirrors the Inquisitor's attitude and behaviour: he responds to kindness with kindness, to curiosity with enthusiasm, and if you decide to be an asshole, he'll respond in kind.
Hindsight gives us the mirroring of two reluctant leaders: two people who do not seek leadership but are forced to accept their roles and cast aside their identities. They become symbols of revolution and resistance. This mirror, however, shows two different outcomes, where one succeeds and the other does not. One relies on their allies and friends for help, and the other shoulders the blame amd responsibilities alone.
There's also another instance of mirroring which I don't think has been caught before, and that's between Inquisitor Lavellan and a romanced Solas and it becomes clear after finishing Veilguard: Solas is the king of the sunk-cost fallacy, but Lavellan is also fighting a losing battle.
Solas is void-bent on tearing down the Veil, because if he doesn't at least try, all the hurt and suffering he has caused and felt has been for naught. Lavellan, if she so chooses, will do everything in her power to stop and save him, because if she does not, all of the pain and love and searching of the last decade has been in vain. Solas stands alone in his quest of tearing down the Veil; Lavellan alone is convinced Solas can be redeemed (remember how everyone except Cole disapproves of the choice in Trespasser? How Morrigan jabs at her in Veilguard?) And just like Solas, Lavellan cannot achieve her goal of changing his mind. Not alone.
But Lavellan isn't alone, and again, the mirror shows us two different outcomes: because while Solas thinks he alone can achieve what must be done and fails, Lavellan is out there reaching out to everyone and their mum to get to him and succeeds.

So. As I’m writing this fanfic I’ve had another painful Solavellan Thought. Specifically about grief.
In the time between the first failed ritual in Veilguard and Rook waking up, the assumption is that no one would have known what happened, only that The Big Bad seems to have disappeared without a trace.
Meaning that, until Rook woke up and their information reached her, Lavellan would not only have to deal with potentially waiting to hear that the love of her life was dead, and that she failed to save him from himself. But also grieving him alone, because everyone besides her (and Varric, which, yknow..) would have celebrated his demise as a victory. They would all think that the world would be better for it if the love of her life was truly dead. They would be justified to feel this way, but how do you deal with that kind of grief in Lavellan’s shoes. Someone give my girl a hug stat.

Here’s a piece I comm’d from the amazing @midorimaddie! (Tysm!!)
My ideal HEA/AU, where my inky Karhará:se and Solas, along with their revolutionary besties, Felassan and Briala, are hanging out and using their power/influence to help their people. 😌💗😌
(Celene still gets 🔪 tho, sry not sry.)

sometimes I'm like do people really hate Inquisition Solas* or did they just decide that he didn't fit conventionally handsome western beauty standards and also talked too much and so he was doomed from the start.
Like, idk. You're telling me if Anders and Fenris (other companions/characters fit here, too) hadn't had the power of ancient elves at their hands that a whole lot of people wouldn't have been dead for their causes a whole lot sooner?
Plenty of characters yap passionately about their interests and get indulged, but Solas does it and it's like "eugh, disGuSting, shut the bald man up!"
I know it doesn't account for the whole sample size. But sometimes I see a piece of hate and go "hmmm."
Put Inquisition Solas into Cullen's character model and tell me how many more people switch to team elven rebellion, ya know?
(if you hate him because dwarven genocide yeah that's fair b/c I know you're engaging with the character and he did play a huge role in that and I *do* wish the games had been about Solas seeking to help the Titans just as much as he wanted to restore spirits, that just isn't the topic of today's babbling session)

Every time people mention how when solas and lavellan talk to one another they are “singing” to each other just makes me compare Solas to the last kauai O'o bird. Being the last of his kind still singing in hopes (desperation) someone will answer and the wave of emotions he must of felt when someone joins in his once lonely duet.

I've finally finished my Dread Wolf tarot embroidery from Dragon Age Inquisition! Clocking in at 64 hours of work, it measures 11.5 X 19.5 cm and I've been chipping away it during my downtime at work. My fellow community council members on Dragon Age: The Veilguard may have been biased while helping me choose which character's card to do, but I'm so grateful they did because it was so much fun to work on, and so different from the previous ones.
This is my fourth large Dragon Age character card project, and the first one I started since I uprooted everything to train as a costumer. Having a portable yet elaborate project was comforting while travelling for new experiences.
Now, who's excited for the new game later this year?!

infinitely funny that solas is this powerful god that was worshipped for centuries albeit against his will and commanded spirits and legions of ancient elves in a rebellion
is the same solas who allowed himself to be bullied non stop by inquisition companions who had no idea what he was. imagine being revered for millennia and then suddenly sera is blowing raspberries anytime he speaks, varric’s calling him “chuckles” after his feared mantle of the dread wolf, being subjected to inappropriate spirit sex questions and the skyhold joke that he doesnt like tea, which he deliberately plays into purely for the sake of everyone’s amusement. he was completely content to be the butt of the joke.
the relief from being seen as a god-general of rebellion and lies to an unwashed apostate hobo ... being in the inquisition truly must’ve been the best year of his life
