War wounds
Well that was different. SPOILER ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! The title is from a quote attributed to Albert Einstein: genius, refugee, pacifist, and civil rights activist. “It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.” The war is recent; the wounds are still fresh. Even under the best of circumstances, with the best mental health care available, it’s too…

Sick or Evil?
Some things break in a way that can never be repaired, only managed.~Dr. M’Benga Had I simply broken my leg, even incurring a compound fracture, instead of tearing my knee’s anterior cruciate ligament, I would be in a physically better place today. A healed fracture includes a significant calcium build up making the break area stronger than it was previously. When the injury heals, it can be…

More M'Benga
The doctor remains a high point of interest in the new season: reliving war trauma, ingesting questionable chemicals, kicking ass – all with Nurse Chapel by his side. On first glance, some of his scenes in the first trailer struck me as romantic. Actor Babs Olusanmokun apparently has chemistry with everyone. However, further reveals suggest something else: deep friendship and trust built on…

The (other) Doctor is in...
Dr. M’Benga is looking to make a strong showing in S2. Not that he didn’t have one in S1: his storyline was powerful, and his character well developed. But his appearances in S2 material released so far are intriguing – and in some cases highly questionable. A few examples from the new trailer: Dr. M’Benga, why are you on a date with a lesbian? (Don’t erase the gay, SNW!!) Are you both pining…

Conflicting priorities
This image gave me Thoughts. In the trailer for SNW S2, Dr. M’Benga and Nurse Chapel share a moment. She’s clearly had a rough time; is his care for her paternal, professional, collegial, or something else? They are both gorgeous and sexy as hell, but unfortunately he’s her boss. Consent is impossible when dating within chain of command; the power differential is too great. Further, a…
