So thinking about that one post talking about AO3 and how important ephemera is to Historians (Ea-Nasir's hate mail) got me thinking about two reasons fanfiction preservation is important beyond just fanfiction preservation being important.

The first is the glimpse into people's lives that are offered by Author's Notes. Author's Notes (ANs) are written at or near the time of the chapter publication and offer a glimpse into the feelings and experiences of that person at that moment.

In a recent update I read, the author announced they had just passed the Bar to be a lawyer. Rereading an older fanfiction the author mentioned their joy at the birth of their nephew. Shortly after Trump's election in 2016 I read a fic where the author noted they began writing this, quit political, fic to cope with the stressful new reality of the president of the US. My very first fanfiction was posted to FF.Net in Jan 2002 and was written as a direct response to the feelings I felt when my father returned home from his first deployment following 9/11.

Anne Frank is not a historically significant person because of any real influence she had on the global sphere during her life. She's a historically significant person because she was an avid diarist during a historically significant period of history who told a story future generations needed to hear.

The second reason preserving fanfiction is important is because fanfiction is an excellent litmus test for the prevailing beliefs and social mores of the Fandom community at the time. Fanfiction is overwhelmingly made up of female, queer, BIPOC, and other marginalized voices. Mainstream media has always been slower to adapt to the social mores that fanfiction authors embrace, but even we have our history.

Remember when having two characters of the same sex kiss conferred an adult rating on a work of fanfiction? That was once a thing, ya'll.

Consider the Open Doors project Boys in Chains. It was a slash centric slave fic focused archive that ran in the early naughts. I happen to like Power Exchange fic (which is an expansive category that includes slave fic) so I read BIC when it ran and recently reread some fic on AO3. Boy Howdy have we changed. We were extremely permissive of May-December relationships in slash back in 2004, for quite a few reasons I could spend a whole post on alone, but suffice to say our relationship with slash changed and we became less permissive of these types of relationships.

Again, because I track the tag, I'm aware of when the "Slavery" tag dropped out of AO3's top 100 tags (around 2018 iirc) because we as a community no longer engage with those topics with the same attitudes we had in the past. Given some of the ways it was engaged with in the past, this is not necessarily a negative, as we've also become more sensitive to things like the very real pain these topics can cause our communities of color. Given the BLM movement and the recognition of Juneteenth (the end of Slavery in the US) as a national holiday, the falling out of this tag nicely correlates with these events in our history.

LGBTQ+ themes emerge first in fanfiction and then are adopted by the mainstream. We saw this with slash and gay, lesbian, and bisexual relationships. We are currently seeing it with transgender and asexual characters now, with the character studies and experiences found in fanfiction slowly finding their way to mainstream media.

Organization for Transformative Works (OTW), the parent non profit that runs AO3 also runs an academic journal, Transformative Works and Cultures, where much of this type of history is being analyzed and preserved for future use. The Fanlore wiki, another OTW project, also works to document Fandom history that is not necessarily fanwork. Things like the amazing Ms.Scribe drama, for example.

Anyway, now that I've rambled long enough you probably stopped reading, here is the TL;DR Fanfiction preservation matters because it is an insight into the community around it at various times in history and reveals our relationship with and in opposition to mainstream culture at that time.

Champion Skins are an in-game cosmetic option present in multiple League related properties! Aside from giving champions a refreshed design, skins can also offer new voicelines, animations, and wholly new backstories set in Alternate Universes – or ‘What If’-style iterations on their canon selves.

A growing narrative element (and “cast” of characters) is a major feature of League’s most popular Skin Universes. While League itself is not a story-progression game, these universes are explored through tie-in material such as champion bios, short stories, music, animations, comics, merch, spinoff games, TV shows, promotional illustrations and more.

This page will focus on champion skins for Jayce and Viktor across all League-related games, with the addition of Blitzcrank whenever an universe is shared.

CODEX TAG — AU: Full Metal | League Wiki Universe Page

➢ CONTEXT HAZARD:  Current bios attached to these skins were retroactively written, and thus make for an incomplete representation of what they were supposed to convey.

Full Machine Viktor is one of Viktor’s original duo launch skins —the second being Prototype Viktor— and at time of release, the set was a representation of Viktor at different stages of his Evolution in the 2011 canon universe. (You had Default Viktor as his cyborg self, Prototype being the mostly-human self and Full Machine being, well, Full Machine.) Full Metal Jayce was also Jayce’s original launch skin; and at the time taken as a what-if style representation of a Jayce that accepted Viktor’s proposal to work together in the 2011 canon universe. This speculation was further bolstered by internal game files referring to this skin as ‘Sentinel Jayce’, and released concept art featuring a fully mechanized version of Jayce’s default outfit under the title ‘Sentinel Armor Apollo’ —"Apollo" was Jayce’s internal development name.

These skins were mixed in with the ‘Heavy Metal’ Universe as part of the 2016 Narrative Overhaul; though the execution of that move left some fans displeased. Jayce is now an international entertainment robot gladiator, while Viktor’s full evolution has been downgraded to a ‘janitorbot’. Fanwork of these skins may still refer to their original context.

Dungeon Master Viktor was originally going to be a part of this Skinline, but never made it to release due to the position of dungeon master being considered ‘too niche’. Though not all was lost: Jayce’s skin bio still highlights a playful rivalry relationship with his offscreen dungeon master.

This skin was featured in two comics (off canon) and a rp style short story. (LoR has introduced new exclusive Riftquest skins in 2022, but they focus on a separate DnD group.)

Miller Pacheco, 29, also a Brazilian citizen, was charged with the murder of his former partner before a special session of Cork District Court. Pacheco is charged with the uncommon law murder of Ms. Fonseca at 5 Liberty Street in the early hours of New Year's Day. The defendant has an address at Room 3, No 5 Liberty Street, Cork. Judge John King received evidence of the arrest, caution and charge from Det Garda Padraig Harrington. The defendant had been arrested for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act on 1 January 1984 and taken to Bridewell Garda Station for questioning. Pacheco was formally charged at 2.45pm at Bridewell Garda Station. Det Garda Harrington said that Pacheco has not responded to the single charge. The accused appeared in court in dark trousers and a black sweater. He did not speak during the brief hearing. Judge King granted free legal aid at the request of defense attorney Aoife Buttimer and ordered that Pacheco receive all necessary medical care while in custody. He also confirmed that a Portuguese translator would be made available for future court sessions. Because the charge is murder, bail cannot be dealt with in the district court. Any application for bail must be made in the High Court. Sergeant Pat Lyons requested the defendant be remanded in custody in order to appear via video link before a session of Cork District Court. Judge King remanded Pachecho to appear again in Cork District Court on January 9. Ms Fonseca, who was from Formiga in Brazil, traveled to Ireland for work last year. She was employed by BidVest-Noonan Contractor Cleaners. Her work included duties at Mercy University Hospital (MUH), which is less than 100 meters from where her body was found at 6:30 a.m. on New Year's Day. Gardaí and paramedics visited the Liberty Street flat at 6.30am on New Year's Day, but desperate efforts to revive the young woman failed and she was pronounced dead at the scene. On Sunday afternoon at Cork University Hospital (CUH), Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster performed an autopsy. Gardaí withheld the autopsy results for operational reasons. However, it did confirm that Ms. Fonseca met a violent death. The young woman had been beaten and strangled. Ms. Fonseca attended university in her native country of Brazil and worked as a librarian. She moved to Ireland last year. Her body was found on Liberty Street just hours after she went out with friends to celebrate New Year's Eve in Cork city centre. The apartment in question is just 100 meters from Bridewell Garda train station and around the corner from the Cork Courthouse on Washington Street. Ms Fonseca's body was found on a bed in an upstairs bedroom of the apartment, which is above Picasso's hair salon. Gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer to support her family in Brazil. It is understood her family are hoping to travel to Ireland to oversee arrangements for the repatriation of their daughter's remains to Brazil. In a tribute, both MUH and Bidvest Noonan praised Ms Fonseca as a hard worker - and said they were "sad and shocked" by her death. “Although she only worked for the company at the hospital for a short time, she was considered a hard and diligent worker and a valued colleague. *I met Junior back in my San Diego days, and he was a super nice guy. I remember having lunch with him and some men from this Sports Charity Event I was going to do. They were letting me know what they wanted me to paint. Anyhow during this lunch meeting, I was having this hard-crust Hawaiian sandwich and had a bad back tooth, a molar. And a bite I took cracked the tooth! Yikes! It hurt really bad, but this was a big-time dealio so I played it cool. Sometimes that's what you got to do. lol

I didn't want these cats thinking I had bad teeth and everything. I mean if I didn't have it together enough for that, what else didn't I have it together for?

So the meeting ended and I headed back to San Diego (the meeting was up near oceanside.) I stopped on the way and bought the canvases I was going to need for the job and at the checkout of the art store, there was a pair of needle nose pliers that had a hook end to them. Perfect to get the loose half of the cracked tooth out of my gourd because I couldn't get my fingers in there to get a hold of it.

So I went home to the condo, and got ready to get this thing out of my head...

Oh Man! After I got up off the floor (where I had fallen, because that 'Plan' was a STUPID PLAN!) God! That was a painful mistake! You guys have no idea!

Anyhow I made my way to the phone and all called up the Native American Clinic where I normally got any dentistry done if I needed some. I told them the whole story, about meeting Junior Seau, the lunch meeting, the dumb sandwich and my DUMB attempt to get this tooth out. They told me to come right in. I changed out of my bloody shirt (there was A Lot of blood) and drove to the Clinic. My dentist Dr. E told me that from now on, he wouldn't try to paint any paintings if I promised not to attempt any more denestry, because I was really bad at it.

I told Junior this story later and he laughed and laughed.

My name is Jan! This is my personal blog, which I mostly use to post or reblog posts about the fandoms I’m in. I have a couple sideblogs, including my artblog, writing blog and my fangan’s blog. I’m the main admin of both the Akudama Drive Wiki and the French Danganronpa Wiki.

• Everyone is welcome to send me asks - especially about media I enjoy, or know a lot about! Please note, though, that while I’m lonely, I’m not desperate; I have standards and will not let people be even slightly rude to me or others for no reason. I will forgive you if we have a misunderstanding, though. Basically, let’s both be respectful of each other and just chat to have fun. • I *might* roll my eyes at you if you send me something that had no business being sent to me, like something I have no reason to care about, or something that should have been its own post and I can’t answer to. If You Give a Frog a Cookie Review

When I typed the title it autocorrected to "Recipe", which I think was appropriate.

A lot of observations this time!

The first thing I noticed, before I even got past the first sentence, was how the Plantars have STILL NEVER HAD A PIZZA. Seriously guys. Pizza was teased in both Hop Luck and Lily Pad Thai, and you still haven't done anything with it this season, despite several interesting premises where it could have fit in quite well.

The second thing I noticed, still in the opening scene: Anne did get used to all the food in Amphibia having bugs in it by the end of Fort in the Road, but she never liked it. If you remember her dream in Night Drivers, "No bugs" was the most beautiful thing she'd ever heard. So it makes no sense why she would put cicadas in the cookies, presumably after she's been back to eating human food for a while.

Now, skipping ahead: when the Plantars enter the Brainasium, and Polly and Hop Pop both have lines, Sprig is just flapping his fingers in an "I want to touch everything in this place" kind of way. Great subtle continuity from Hop Till You Drop.

Now, on to Terri! (Yes, that is how it's spelled, according to the wiki). My first thought upon seeing her was "I recognize that voice from somewhere. It was kind of androgynous, but I'm pretty sure it was a girl. And I know she played a major role in a show I've seen recently. No, not that show, another one." Then I looked at the wiki and found out that her VA is Kate Micucci, and everything clicked. Suddenly I knew that that voice belonged to both Sara Murphy and Toby (the kid from the future in The Goulash Legacy). My next thought was "So... why does she have blue hair?" And my next thought was "A Milo Murphy's Law character just referenced Phineas and Ferb in Amphibia. What are the odds?"

Also, in a blink-and-miss-it gag, Frakes seriously used Terri's key card to get into her own lab. What's that all about?

Now, another reference that was lost even on the wiki is the whole scene where Frakes opens a portal to the wrong dimension, then says she can only hold the portal open for about 5 seconds. Both were problems faced by Phineas and Ferb in their first movie; when they tried to open a portal after being separated from Dr. D. and Other Dimension Dr. D., they opened it to the wrong dimension, and when they finally got a portal to their own dimension, it was so unstable it collapsed the moment Candace came through.

Another fun blink-and-miss-it gag is that after Terri says "She's heading for the dissection lab!" a kid's foot is seen stomping on the floor, and on the wall behind the foot is written the Quadratic Formula. Obviously written by one of the actual scientists in the place and not by one of the kids. I just felt a compulsive urge to point that out.

Now moving on to the last scene. First, Terri apparently subscribes to Atomicon (a convention about atoms, I guess?) and STEM Weekly (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) magazines. And second, how is it possible that there was ALL that traffic going one way and only ONE vehicle going the other way?

And a few final thoughts: what is Dr. Jan going to think when she finds out about this whole thing? When will the new friends we've met so far finally come together and start actually working on the goal of returning the Plantars to Amphibia? Will Froggy Little Christmas be a one-off episode like The Shut-In, or will it be a secret plot episode like Hop Popular? The answers to some of these questions and a whole lot more, coming up next time!

A cage bed, also known as enclosure bed or veil bed, is a bed with either metal bars or netting designed to restrain a person of any given age within the boundaries of the bed. They are most commonly used with the mentally impaired or demented patients who are likely to get out of bed without warning.

To counter the use of cage beds for mentally handicapped children, a political campaign to ban the use of cage beds in the Czech Republic was popularized by author J. K. Rowling.

Psychiatric practitioners in the Czech Republic have defended the use of the beds, calling them the best way to restrain patients who could harm themselves or others. "We can either use cage beds, or increase people's medication, strap them down, or put them in solitary confinement," says Jan Slezak, director of Social Care Home in Raby, eastern Bohemia. "We see cage beds as the best solution."[1]

Donc, l’origine de la spirale se perd complètement et on n’en a plus besoin. My last personal post detailed my symptoms and how they were getting worse; that was on January 2nd. Well, on the 6th they got bad enough that I had to go to the emergency room.

My muscle spasms were particularly bad in my neck, face, and chest, and they got to the point where they were cutting off my airway and choking me. Also, my entire right side went numb. The whole not-breathing thing was particularly concerning, which is what ultimately sent me to the ER. I was worried that the symptoms were due to cranio-cervical instability, and the doctor ordered a CT angiogram of my neck and head so he could see both my vertebrae and brainstem/brain/blood vessels/other soft tissues. Turns out I was fine structurally, but something was still definitely funky neurologically.

I ended up getting a diagnosis because the doctor went over my entire history and saw that I’d had ongoing symptoms like this for 3 years. I was kind of incredulous because it had gone undiagnosed for so long, but here I am! Anyway, my diagnosis is Functional Neurological Disorder. Here’s the Wiki link but the tl;dr is that my nervous system is structurally intact, but functionally a wreck. In other words, it’s full of misfirings and miscommunications even though there’s no one particular source of injury (sort of like fibromyalgia, which I also actually have).

The only treatment is physical therapy, occupational therapy, and talk therapy - so basically, a lot of different therapies. There’s also pain meds, if your particular FND symptoms cause pain, which mine do on occasion, but I don’t think I’m going to need pain meds for mine. I’ve also been scheduled for a full neuropsych evaluation, both for good measure, and to hopefully determine what particular therapies I might benefit from.

In the meantime, it’s good to know that my neck isn’t too unstable and that my neurological symptoms aren’t due to something that’s actively dangerous.

(My current symptoms are hemiparesis, AKA paralysis on one side of my body; overall weakness/numbness; blurry vision; light sensitivity; hearing loss; balance loss; foot drop; frequent headaches and migraines; dysphagia/trouble swallowing; and muscle spasms, both dystonia and myoclonus.)

If Russia is the fighting tribe of the world, people in the Northeast of China/东北人 will be the fighting tribe in China. The “Doomsday Machine,” the title of Daniel Ellsberg’s superb book, is not an imaginary contraption from a movie masterpiece.  A Doomsday Machine uncannily like the one described in “Dr. Strangelove” exists right now.  In fact, there are two such machines, one in U.S. hands and one in Russia’s.  The U.S. seeks to hide its version, but Ellsberg has revealed that it has existed since the 1950s.  Russia has quietly admitted that it has one, named it formally, “Perimetr,” and also tagged it with a frighteningly apt nickname “Dead Hand.” Because the U.S. and Russia are the only nations with Doomsday Machines to date we shall restrict this discussion to them. 

Ellsberg’s terrifying message in the book has failed to provoke action in the year since its publication. Instead, on Jan. 24 the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists kept its Doomsday Clock at two minutes to midnight, poised perilously close to Armageddon for a second year, marking a “new abnormal.”

The first component of a Doomsday Machine is a mechanism of launching nuclear weapons with a command structure not always in the hands of a president in either country, something carefully hidden from the U.S. public.

The second component is a weapon of such destructive force that it can kill billions at once and then more gradually the entire human race and perhaps all animal life on earth.

Here is a brief consideration of Ellsberg’s views as a reminder of the nuclear peril we face along with a plan of action that he and others suggest.

The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #12: Unmasked by Doctor Octopus!

SYNOPSIS:

Betty Brant has returned to New York and taken back her secretary job at the Daily Bugle. Dr. Octopus has also returned to New York, plotting to get revenge on Spider-Man, and decides to use Betty as bait. Kidnapping Betty from the Bugle building, he tells Jameson to put a call out to Spider-Man to meet him at a nearby amusement park.

With his spider-powers seemingly gone because he's come down with a cold, Peter decides that he has no choice but to save Betty as he is, and so he accepts the challenge. When he tells Jameson (pretending that he just heard it, so his identity isn't compromised), Jameson reports the story himself.

When Spider-Man arrives to battle Dr. Octopus, all his powers have completely faded. Naturally, the powerless Spider-Man proves to be no match for Dr. Octopus. Dr. Octopus publicly unmasks Spider-Man. Octopus theorizes that Parker was simply posing as Spider-Man to save his girlfriend, because Spider-Man would put up a better fight. He flees the scene to find some other way to get the "real" Spider-Man's attention.

Everyone gives Peter grief for the danger he put himself in; however, Liz Allan finds the whole episode romantic, and her opinion of Peter changes and she realizes that she's attracted to him. The next day, Peter finds that the cold has passed and as a result, his powers are back. When Dr. Octopus releases animals from the zoo, Peter goes into action as Spider-Man. He rounds up all the animals, and gets into a fight with Dr. Octopus across the city.

Their fight takes them to an artist's loft, where they inadvertently start a fire; when the flames grow too big, Spider-Man flees and Dr. Octopus is knocked out by inhaling too much smoke. The fire is put out, and Octopus is turned over to the police. Later, Liz Allan asks Peter out on a date. Peter rejects her date, telling her that he's going on a better one with Betty Brant. He tells Liz to go out with Flash Thompson, because they deserve each other.
