Downside Up, Upside Down....Part 1

Anyone remember the original? Well, we have a surprise for you dear readers!!!

In order to celebrate both Trapped and @breakofficial for running for 5 years or so, the team and I thought it would be fun to do a crossover comic reinventing the downside up sequence in Trapped Chapter 2!!

This mini series involved hands from both the Trapped and Break team!!! The series is loose and easygoing for shading, anyone could do whatever they wanted in their style to showcase their awesomeness!!! I gotta say, I think everyone did a TREMENDOUSLY AWESOME job!!!! I just wanna give a huge thank you to these folks for all their hard work and dedication to both comic series. These things have been around LOOONNNGG (in internet years anyway) and these folks have stuck around for the journey. I absolutely couldn't have imagined that I would be lucky enough to work with such talented, kind, passionate, and astounding individuals that I am lucky I get to call my friends!!! So let's give our hats off to the team, dear readers. These are the folks that make the magic happen!!!❤🔥

The Show That Changed Modern Drum Corps

Downside Up, Bluecoats' 2016 program, was a revolutionary show that left a lasting impact on modern drum corps. This groundbreaking production pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in the activity, both musically and visually.

The Bluecoats are always trying new things, and this year's use of electronic elements and synthesized sounds added a futuristic dimension to the show, creating a sonic landscape similar to their 2014 program Tilt. Downside Up, specifically challenged the notion that drum corps had to adhere to a specific musical style, opening the door for more experimentation and creativity in future productions.

While the music of Downside Up was groundbreaking, its visual design was equally revolutionary. Their giant ramp props shattered the expectations of props and introduced a new wave of moveable, interactive props from all drum corps in the future. These props are also the reason why props nowadays have to have safety guidelines (they were a bit dangerous).

I think the Bluecoats' creativity and precision this year is what led to them getting their first win, and also inspired many other corps to take risks when it comes to show design elements for the future.

PS - I think Downside Up's ballad was where they got a lot of their general effect points from. The Great Gig in the Sky and Ben Gunnarson's solo truly made for the best moment that year. And we can't forget about the wink, lol.

Welp. I feel silly and really dumb and I am so sorry for LITERALLY FORGETTING TO POST THIS college has consumed my life so much that I left yall on a cliffhanger only to have two more pages of this left 😭 ANYWAY I HOPE YOU ALL DID ENJOY THIS LIL CROSSOVER CELEBRATION!!
