Wait I lied I can articulate at least some of my cordy thoughts. It's not as egregiously bad as the way a hole in the world makes Fred's death all about Wesley's feelings mostly bc you don't actually understand what's happening in this episode on first watch also I don't think the writers even vaguely understood either. But the fact that cordy gets forced to sleep with someone she saw as her son and essentially raped (in order to, by the way, forcibly impregnate her) and the show makes this all about angel being like. Mad and jealous about it..... ohhhhhh my god fucking kill yourselves I think everyone involved in the writing of this season needs to be on some kind of watchlist
#buffyverse#angel the series#ifer rambles#sorry everyone. bitching in the ats tag again but i like to think i am at least making cogent points

Jordeclan and Coffy for the ask meme
Jordeclan:
Whether I ship it or not: Yes !!! I do. I unfortunately don't post it very often, but I actually think they are the strongest couple in TD3 at times.
Why I ship it or not: I think she could fix him. (That's only half a joke). I think it's *chef's kiss* that everything that Jordan is challenges Declan's beliefs. I love that he becomes stability and a way out for her. Jordeclan to me is one of those ships that's like. Yes, she could do so much better than him, but I respect women's choices and good for her.
My opinion on their canon potential: One thing I will say--Greywaren lost some of their potential at the end. They absolutely SHOULD NOT have gotten married at the Barns. In no world is that a good ending for them. To me, they elope not long after the apocalypse avoiding stuff and do their art crimes farrrrr away from the Barns.
My opinion on fanon interpretations/fandom around it: I am not Declan's number one fan, I'm pretty open on that. I think that's part of why I don't post Jordeclan much, because going into TD3 I just barely liked Declan and I am only just now doing my first reread of the trilogy with his and Jordan's arcs in mind. So generally, I'm not fully on board with a lot of Jordeclan posting because it usually boils down to Declan stan posting, and that just doesn't spark a lot of interest for me. I need more Jordeclan posting from a Jordan perspective, and maybe I'll get on that when I finish my reread.
Coffy (I am assuming Cordelia/Buffy?):
Whether I ship it or not: I could take it or leave it, I think. When watching the show, it never really appealed to me, but when I see people posting it I could get behind it.
Why I ship it or not: Why I think I didn't when watching it the first time is because I've never been too big on the rivals to lovers trope personally, especially when in canon there were more interesting options for that imo (FUFFY !!). But why I can get behind it now? I really really love both of these characters. Cordelia in her ATS era is one of my favorite characters in the BTVS catalogue overall. And Buffy is like my fav of all time. I think they could get over Angel together.
My opinion on their canon potential: There's definitely always chemistry there, but I do not think that they could have been together in high school. I think they would have to come together after graduation--maybe in an AU where ATS and BTVS join together again around Season 6 BTVS.
My opinion on fanon interpretations/fandom around it: TBH I do not see much action from this fandom on this point. I need to be seeing more. I do love lesbian or ace interpretations of Cordy. And of course bi Buffy is basically canon to me. I also haven't seen this much at all, but I think Willow would be so jealous if they got together lmaoo.

By the time they made it to Cordelia's first destination of choice, the fog had finally cleared, and the beauty of Henford in the autumn time had truly come to life.
"Do you remember this place, Huck?"
"Of course," Henry smiled, "how could I forget?"
It was the Isle of Vole Campgrounds. Every summer, Cam and the rest of the family would come up and they would barbeque and spend the day here.
"I don't think I've ever seen it in the Fall though. It's just as beautiful. Is that why you wanted to come here, Delia?"
"Only partly. You see, I've watched you all gather here as a family every year, and I've always wanted to be a part of that."
"You were."
"No, I mean really be a part of it. So can we, Huck? Can we do a Fletcher style picnic?"
"But we didn't bring anything."
"You can leave that part to me. You trust me, right Huck?"
"Of course, but how will that—"
She squeezed his hand. "Please love, for me, this once."
"You know I won't ever tell you no."
"Then let's go."
The two of them started into the campgrounds.
Right by the lake, somehow, Cordelia had managed to prepare them a picnic. So they sat by the waters edge and watched the swans swim by while they sipped on tea and nibbled on biscuits.
"I have no idea how you managed this, Delia."
"It's beautiful isn't it?"
"Breathtaking."
"Do you remember that summer 5 years ago when you brought the family up here?"
"Do I ever. That was the one where Camille was finally old enough to do the swings. Both her and Cordie fought fiercely for my attention. Push me Grampy, no me, me, me!" He chuckled.
"I started out pushing Camille but then little Cordelia got so upset, so I switched and started pushing her. That put a smile on Cordie's face, but then little Millie left to pout. I couldn't win."
"That's because they think you play favorites. Millie thinks you love Cordie best."
"I know, but it isn't true. I love all my grandbabies best in different ways. Alberich doesn't always get things right, but he's always so positive. Andros has endless curiosity that will take him far. Camille is so disciplined with her talents. I admire that, it's so special."
"And what about Cordie?"
"Cordie....she's so cheerful. Just endless light no matter the situation, the person, the place, she's always able to find the good in it. Just like you."
"That's why they get jealous, Huck. That's not a fair comparison."
"I know. I don't mean to make it, she just reminds me so much of you it's hard not to sometimes."
"It frustrates her too, ya know, to be compared to me. She feels like she's having to live up to an impossible ideal. When the truth is she's so much more than I ever was."
"She has so much energy, and confidence, and spunk."
"You had spunk."
"Only about as much as my bad heart would allow." Cordelia gave a weak smile. "Hey, do me a favor?"
"Anything."
"Push me on the swings?"

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E3 (part 3)
School Hard
So, this part publishes on my birthday. I will be 27. Yay? Anyway, back to the episode.
The vampires attack and Willow gets a good hit in with a bust of some guy.
To show how brutal Spike is, he kills a guy just for the fun of it.
Snyder goes straight to P.C.P (not the Manic Street Preachers song because there is actually song called that as I was listening to it while typing this, the drug kind). I ask again, does he know about Sunnydale's demon problem?
Buffy is a boss. This we know. She is 16 and in a room full of scared adults, and while Snyder thinks he is helping, he will only make the situation worse. All the while, Buffy is staying calm and taking charge and coming up with a plan on the fly.
Giles will look after Joyce for Buffy, he cares about Joyce because she is Buffy's family, and Buffy is important to him.
The 'Use your head' bit from Spike as he smashes a guys head into glass to get a axe has the same energy as the scene from Toy Story 2 when they use Rex's head to get in to Al's apartment.
Spike might be rash at times, but he is smart, at least in this season.
Why does Buffy not question Sheila's sudden appearance? She hasn't seen her all night, but she shows up just as vampires are attacking. Come on, that's a little sus. And what happened to Sheila after this?
During the reunion between Angel and Spike, Spike calls Angel his sire, but we later find out this isn't technically true. Drusilla was the one who turned him, Angelus was the one to make him into the vicious monster that he is now. We find this out in 'Fool for Love' (S5 of Buffy) and Destiny (S5 of Angel).
'Do we really need weapons for this?' Yes! Of course you do! You just gave him the advantage by dropping your weapon. This does become a point Spike makes in 'Fool for Love' and it's a good point to make.
The last slayer Spike killed was Nikki Wood. In the flashback in 'Fool for Love' we don't see her beg for her life as he says she did in this episode. Is that because the scene we see in 'Fool for Love' is altered to fit Spike's retelling of it to teach Buffy about what it means to be a slayer? So Nikki could have begged for her life, we just don't get to hear it because Spike's monologue is more important to the plot of the episode?
'No, Spike. It's going to hurt a lot.' Yep, her death hurts Spike a lot.
And we see the back of the head for Spike's stunt double. They couldn't have tried to get their hair a bit more similar so it wasn't so obvious that it's a stunt double?
Joyce coming in with an axe to the back of the head. Badass mum there. Spike will remember this.
Snyder, covering his ass so he doesn't get blamed for a dead parent. Asshole.
Angel did not care if Xander got bit by Spike. Do you think he is still jealous?
'The usual story?' 'What do you have in mind? The truth?' I swear Snyder fucking knows about the demons in Sunnydale, so do the police. It's all a part of one big cover up, probably by the Mayor.
Proud mum moment. Joyce knows her daughter is brave and helps others and that trumps whatever Snyder said to her earlier.
They forget about Cordy and Willow. How long were they in there for?
'So, let's see what's on TV.' He says after killing a vampire child. In such a cute way too. God damn you, James Marsters.
Does anyone else think that the Anointed One was a bit of a pointless character? He didn't do anything and couldn't because he was a child. They built him up in S1E5 but all he really did was lead Buffy to The Master. Like there wasn't much of a point to him, except that one thing, but even then was he really necessary? So his death isn't a big loss.
That's it for this episode. Next up, the second of Xander's attraction to supernatural beings. I only wrote 4 pages of notes for that, so it will only be in 2 parts.

I think those actually do represent Xander, Willow, and Cordy's greatest fears, just in a sidelong way. And I think that's even true of Buffy and Giles! I read Buffy's fear of being turned into a vampire less as a literal fear and more as fear of failure: she's afraid the vampires will win and take over the world, even the one person destined to stop them. Similarly, Giles doesn't fear Buffy's death directly so much as he fears causing the death of another person close to him, and failing in his duties again. Yes, they are afraid of those things! But it's again exaggerated through the normal nightmare lens of dreams about dying and all your loved ones dying.
What I think Xander's dream represents is, essentially, Nazis, which he specifies he's afraid of. The clown, in setting up the complicated elaborate trap, took the time to spray paint a swastika on the wall. But the problem with this fear is that most people go, oh, well, everyone hates nazis. It's considered a silly and almost illegitimate fear, much like clowns - everyone will accept that someone is unsettled but never truly afraid. Combined with the candy, we see this representing Xander's trusting nature: he used to trust that people were essentially good, but found out that people can always be secret nazis. You could even take the implication - because Xander's story is the same way a lot of people phrase it - that the clown said something fascist to him, but he didn't know how to explain his discomfort, so none of the adults would help. So the fear is that people who hate him/his loved ones are lying in wait, and there's no warning to tell where they're going to strike.
Willow's dream is about performing, yes, but about how good she is at performing in public. That there's a real her that no one gets to see and how she's become so adept at hiding it she's going to get locked into something she can't do. A typical nerd imposter syndrome, combined with covering up her home life so well she's precluded the possibility of help, and the idea that people only want her for her talents, not for her personality. (Also a closeted reading, if you go that route.) There's also the second layer she really, really wants to be just like Buffy, even though she knows she doesn't have that skill: even though she thinks it would be impressive and beautiful to sing opera, it's not in her wheelhouse. She's also conflating Buffy's beauty, poise, and fashion sense with her supernatural skills, and while she's willing to admit to herself she's jealous of the slayage, she hasn't yet admitted that she's jealous of the Slayage, even though she's already started trying to change her look a little to take up more visual space. Just not - yet - the whole stage.
Cordelia's greatest fear is losing herself. Like, I enjoy reading Cordy as autistic, and that her hair (her entire style, but including her hair) is her special interest, and so in that sense, it's the fear a lot of people have that they might one day just never care again about the thing that drives them. Whatever thing they love so much they make a lot of space for it in their life, if it suddenly became meaningless or a burden, especially when they used to defend how important it was and that it was allowed to take up that much space - that's a big fear. Now, I don't think that was entirely intentional within the text, but what I do think is built on hair-as-metaphor is that loneliness. We also hear Cordy talk about how people are only friends with her because of her style, so of course she'd be very concerned with her style; the hair represents fear of abandonment. If she loses those things for which people value her, she becomes worthless to them. This is also a cool flipside to Willow's! The Ugly Girl was put in the spotlight, and the Pretty Girl was given a bad hair day. (The same way Buffy and Giles match and Xander and Billy match.)
You can see this also with the doctor they meet, who knows not to give out confidential patient information about Billy, but does so anyway, because the nightmare made him do it. His greatest fear isn't telling people about Billy, it's violating patient care standards, putting them in danger, harming their recovery, and losing his license because of a careless mistake. In the same way dreams are a reflection of reality, and people can often point to certain waking anxieties that give them bad dreams, most of the nightmares aren't fully representational and imply greater fears.
Okay, so Nightmares...
I personally love when shows do the "dreams/greatest fears/journey to the center of the mind" shit, because it's a great way to do a character study. You can tell a lot about a character by showing a surreal visions of their dreams and nightmares - from their desires and fears to their regrets.
And this episode starts interesting. First the Master has really nice monologue to The Anointed One about fear, and even at some point he mentiones that the cross is filling him with fear. Next we have the daytime nightmare with Wendell seeing spiders, and we are to assume at first that he's deadly afraid of spiders, but then he explains that he adores them, however, as a kid, he left his collection to his brother and they died, so he feels guilty about them.
But later the nightmares are hit or miss. And I guess it's because they aren't necesserily supposed to be the characters' Greatest Fears(TM), just nightmares. So we get some pretty generic ones, like Xander being scared of clowns, Willow singing opera and Cordelia having bad hair day. Only with Buffy, Giles and Billy Palmer we get something more substantional (Buffy meeting her dad, being burried alive and coming back as vampire; Giles seeing Buffy's grave, Billy being followed by couch the Ugly Man...). And I wish we could get a proper Greatest Fear for Xander, Willow, maybe even Cordelia, because they get "joke nightmares" that don't say much about their characters (maybe aside from the fact that Cordelia thinks a lot about her social status).
Billy being in coma and causing the nightmares to manifest with his astral projection is a bit generic too, but I buy it as a plot device. Besides, The Ugly Man is an interesting mystery - we are told after Laura got beaten up that Billy is in come because of similar beating so part of the "waking up" process will be figuring out what really happened to Billy (and later reveal and capture of the couch is quite satisfying, not gonna lie).

i actually take back what i said about buffy and daenerys being the most popular in their respective fandoms. i was more thinking in terms of dany and buffy being cultural icons and beloved characters than fandom discourse. their are definitely parts of the btvs fandom where people prefer willow/cordy/faith and resent buffy for being the main character. actually the more that I think about it i can kinda see what candy meant by sansa being the fandom darling, dany and arya are more iconic and beloved by general audiences, but i do think sansa stans have dominated a lot of fandom discourse. the thing is I actually think sansa stans are more like caroline stans than elena stans. their entire online presence is being jealous of daenerys in the same way caroline stans are jealous of elena, so it’s weird that candy could recognize and call out this behaviour from sansa stans while engaging in the exact same behaviour when it came to caroline and elena.
Lol yes. There are several segments of the btvs fandom that stan other female characters rather than buffy. I wouldn't say they hate her, or at least they don't admit to that (because really, why would you dislike buffy on such a visceral level??) but she's certainly not the one that they feel more strongly about. There's this really popular btvs podcast call "buffering" and they adore pretty much all the other female characters but don't seem to show the same level of enthusiasm for the protagonist.
Anyway, yeah I never watched GOT and I don't know its fandom dynamic outside of what reaches "mainstream" fandom so I can't really offer any opinion on that. I can assume some behaviors based on general perceptions people tend to have about female characters though.
In my opinion, I think Arya and Dany are characters more prone to become fandom faves bc they are the types of characters that attract the more general audiences. They fit the Strong Female Character archetype that's widely accepted. Sansa doesn't, which is why I find her very similar to Elena. On the other hand, Post-vampirism Caroline also fits a fandom fave checklist bc she's just oh so quirky and fun! She tells it like it is!! She's unapologetic about who she is!! But here's the tthing: despite all of Caroline's qualities, Elena was still the one unfairly getting all the attention in canon!! A couple of feminists on tumblr liked and defend her every move!! So that obviously provoked a violent jealous reaction on a subset of her fans that weren't satisfied with all her progress and well-liked status: they needed to have her to check all the boxes and take over everything, otherwise she was being oppressed!
I can't speak for Sansa stans and how much they are in fandom though. What I see from an outsider perspective is that Sansa's fanbase seems to be mostly made-up of feminist and feminist-leaning women in specific niche parts of the internet. But I could be wrong!

Jealousy - Cordelia Goode
A/N: This is a request! It's my first time ever writing smut and I hate it. gif is mine
Prompt: Cordelia has feelings for reader, and catches them hooking up with Madison in the middle of the night.
TW: cigarettes, alcohol, huge smut, very smutty, swearing, praise kink, mommy kink, I'm sorry
requested by MsLana-Banana on wattpad
Word count: 1349
Moans echo around the coven, and Cordelia blushes, knowing that one of her girls is up to something. She's in her office trying to work, but the moaning is distracting. She is expecting you to text her any moment to joke about Madison and Zoe being at it again. But then she realizes Zoe isn't there tonight, she's away visiting family. So are most of the girls. It's just you, Madison, and her at the coven right now. Her face falls at the realization and her heart feels like it falls out of her chest and she slams her laptop shut. "Ah, fuck Y/N!" Madison's screams pierce through the Supremes skull and it's as if every fiber of her being wants to die.
"Madison, stop it, this is embarrassing!" you almost shout at the blonde who's jumping up and down on her bed as she fake moans loudly.
"Oh, fuck you're so good at this!" she screams, "I'm gonna - Ah!" she groans before she flops down on the bed, reaching over for her cigarettes. You just stare at her with a flustered look. Your cheeks are burning from embarrassment, and you grab the bottle of beer from beside you, sipping at it. "You're such a good fuck, Y/N!" she exclaims, and before you know it, the door swings open.
"What the fuck is going on in here?" Cordelia snaps, her nostrils flaring as she watches you widen your eyes, as Madison just smirks, taking another drag of her cigarette.
"Nothing Cordy, having some fun," she says, her lips curling around the cigarette
"Nothing even happened!" you blurted out waving your arms around, "I have no idea what the fuck she -"
"My office now." She cuts you off through gritted teeth and your thighs clench together at how flustered she is.
"Told ya,"
The walk to her office was slightly awkward as you don’t have a clue what is even going on. Was Madison right about this? Did Cordelia even like you? Madison started this whole thing because she knew it would make Cordelia jealous. How? You both walk into the office, your feet padding on the rug as you enter, and Cordelia shuts the door behind her. "What was that about?" she asks with a softer tone this time, making you sigh in relief she isn't mad, but it doesn't stop you from blushing
"I don't know - She -" you gulp as her eyes lock onto yours and she parts her lips with her wet tongue, licking them.
"Don't lie to me." she walks closer to you and in turn you walk backward, hitting your backside off her desk.
Your heart is racing, you have an idea that this might have actually worked but the way Cordelia is acting is such a turn-on, "Why?" you question, a teasing glint in your eye, feeling more confident now, "You jealous?"
Cordelia's tongue is in her cheek as she approaches you, her arms beside you as she leans over you on the desk, "Incredibly," she breathes as she leans in, "Did you fake that so it'll make me jealous?" she whispers in your ear. Her breath is hot and heavy and she leans in and places soft kisses on your neck and you lean your head back.
"Maybe," you say after a moment and she moans quietly as her lips graze down to your pulse point sending throbbing vibrations to your core, "What are you going to do about it?" you ask, and she diverts her attention back to your face as she looks into your lust-filled eyes, her eyes darken as you say those words and she moves her hands closer to your body, smoothing the fabric of your shirt down to your waist and she lifts you onto the desk.
You continue to look into each other's eyes, your breathing becoming heavier and she leans in before kissing your lips hungrily and you pull her in closer, your hand tugging in her golden blonde locks. Your teeth clash together a few times and your tongue reaches out inside her mouth, gliding over her teeth making her groan throatily. She goes back to your neck and you think at that moment that you've died and gone to hell because that's where you belong right now. Her touch is fierce, sending tingles right where they need to be, and you're so lost in the moment you didn't even notice she stopped. "Do you want this?" she asks, her entire body language changing for a moment until she gets your consent. You nod at her eagerly, pulling her back close, kissing her again, and her nimble hands unbutton your jeans. "You need to use your words, sweetheart," she says between kisses.
"Yes." you moan as she tugs at your jeans. "Yes Cordelia,"
"Good girl," she says and with that, she uses her powers to rid yourself of those ridiculously tight jeans so you're sitting there on her desk in your underwear. Your chest heaving as she looks at you and you unbutton her blouse as you pull her in for another hungry kiss.
"Hmm." you finally take it off, tossing the bra away after unclasping it, and begin kissing down her neck towards her soft breasts, kissing over every freckle. Her fingers tangle into your hair for support as she leans closer towards you and your tongue gently trails up her breastbone. Her breathing becomes heavy as you pepper kisses closer and closer to her nipples. You open your mouth, taking in her nipple, sucking it gently, and she lets out a breathy moan, her hands pushing you closer for more contact and you graze your teeth over it, making her whine.
"Fuck," she breathes just as you take your attention to her other perky breast that fit perfectly in your mouth, licking small circles around her nipple before she whines again.
"God, those noises you make." you groan before slamming her mouth back onto yours, and she tugs off your panties and pulls your hoodie over your head.
"You better be making just as much noise for me sweetheart, I want to hear everything," she whispers in your ear, her fingers hovering over your center, stroking up and down your thighs before she parts your lips and dips her fingers in taking in your wetness, "So wet for me." she moans, you hold on to her for dear life as pleasure ripples through you, her fingers stroking your clit, sending tingles everywhere and you're so damn close already,
"Cordelia." you moan quietly and she pulls her fingers away, tutting.
"What did I say, baby?" she asks, seductively, "I want to hear..." she places her fingers back, two fingers guided towards your entrance, making you whine a little louder, "Everything," she pushes them inside as she says it and you groan, throwing your head back in pleasure as she pumps her fingers inside you.
"Fuck," you're at a loss for words, everything feeling so good. She can feel your walls tightening already and a smirk plasters on her lips as she thrusts faster, "Fuck," you say louder, as you begin bucking your hips to match her rhythm and she curls her fingers inside you stroking your G-spot.
"Come for me baby," she says and you look forwards, leaning on your elbows as you watch her fucking you with her fingers, her face flustered and determined and so fucking sexy. "Come for mommy,"
That's all you needed before your body tensed and you hold your hand out gripping onto her shoulder, "Oh, fuck," you moan again as your orgasm dies down, and your body relaxes again, you look at Cordelia who bites her lip, looking at you with those eyes again, "Your turn?" you whisper giving her a smile
"Come here," she says pulling you up so you're in a sitting position again before you jump off, grab her and push her on the desk, her back slamming hard against it as she lays down and you climb up on top, straddling her,
"Now, you be a good girl for me."

Original Not-Dead Leif related hot take (call that a cold take lmao):
Long post.
I genuinely, absolutely, do NOT think that pre-death/original/Not-Cordyceps Leif would hate cordy!Leif. I've seen this take here and there, and while i will admit that it's valid and an interesting concept, it's not something I can really agree with.
My first point is that... Leif's a huge fucking nerd. Seriously- Assuming that the current Leif has roughly the same personality as the original, which would make sense... Sure, he can be petty, but he's never struck me as particularly spiteful. This is a guy who's canonically either considered or downright tried to pet and/or steal almost every cute enemy in the game. This is a guy who takes a card game COMICALLY seriously. I don't know how else to put it, Leif's a dork, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Secondly, and related to the first point- Despite everything, Leif's... a fairly normal person. Like, yeah, he's a hundred year old zombie wizard. That's definitely a thing. But before he died? He had a house, a wife, a kid on the way, absolutely no combat skills, all that fun stuff. All things considered, he very well could have been even more of a dork back then, yknow, BEFORE he was an ancient mushroom ice wizard explorer.
Thiiiirdly, mm..not gonna keep up the essay format just gonna wordvomit at this point. Leif's canonically kind of a dork, he lived a fairly normal life, all that. You're here for the fungus angst, though, and I'm about to get to that.
I feel like if... idk, if somehow the original leif "woke up" or something? I don't think he'd be pissed. He'd be freaked out, sure, there's literally a zombie parasite in his dead body living his life for him, that's kind of fucked up. I can't imagine him actually hating said zombie parasite as a person, though. I mean... He would've died in that cave with or without fungal interference, and all things considered? They've done a damn good job at being Leif. He saved the kingdom, got knighted, he's got some good friends, hell, he's literally on a first name basis with god herself. All while still doing almost exactly what the original Leif would have done in these situations. He wouldn't be mad.
No, no. If anything, he'd be a bit jealous. I mean, a mushroom did a better job at being Leif than Leif did. A mushroom took everything that made leif Leif, and used it to become one of the coolest people in Bugaria. AND it's not like he's up to anything shady- This guy was genuinely just living as Leif, no Cordyceps Motives involved. He’s just as much of Just A Guy as he's always been.
So, in conclusion? Angst is fun, yeah, but have you considered "ghost of your past self comes back to haunt you, ends up being confused, mildly disturbed and a bit jealous of you, though otherwise agreeable despite the incredibly awkward situation"?
(Sidenote: I also don't think the original Leif would have any right to forcefully take back control of the body. Like... yeah, that's his body, but he died. He's dead. The cordyceps has been using it for the last century. The cordyceps is the one who saved the kingdom with badass ice magic and got knighted and won a spy cards tournament. The original Leif would not only be clueless as to what he's been up to lately, but would be so jarringly incompetent that he could easily fuck things up for the both of 'em and make it painfully obvious that there's some cordyceps shenanigans going on.)

She wanted to be upset, but it's not like Jai was stopping her from going. He was practically pushing her away. What was she doing wrong? Why didn't he want her?
Dejected she followed Aiden to the kitchen where it quickly became obvious he didn't need help with anything at all.
"So? What do you need?" Cordie said impatiently.
"Oh, nothing, just giving you a bit of a time out before you implode."
"What are you talking about?"
"That boy, you like him don't you?"
"What?"
"Why didn't you tell me you got yourself a boyfriend?"
"What makes you so sure he's my boyfriend?"
"Alpha made a leg of lamb for dinner and Cam and Dre look to be entertaining his parents. All earmarks of a what are your intentions toward my daughter type of meal."
"Oh, right."
"So he is."
"He is."
"So why are you so nervous?"
"Well...I dunno. Just am I guess." There was no way she could tell Aiden it was because she wanted him to kiss her and he just wasn't getting the message. Aiden would just make fun of her.
"Hmm. Well, he likes you, right?"
"I dunno."
"He has to. He wouldn't be here to face the wrath of Fletcher if he didn't."
"Maybe. Or, let's say he lost interest and now he's just tolerating this whole event for my sake. What then?"
"Cordie, you're a horrible overthinker. Just like Mom."
"Just like Mama, huh?"
"Yes. And just like her you're so blind to your best attributes. I bet he's crazy about you."
"Really? What makes you so sure?"
"Cause there's a lot about you to like." Aiden smiled at her hoping to lift her mood.
"Well, if that's the case, stay for dinner."
"I think I might need you there to remind me of all those things about myself that are likable."
"Normally I'd love to, but I have plans."
"Plans? What, like a date?"
"Why, you jealous?" Aiden smirked but when he saw Cordie's face fall he instantly regretted it.
"That...was a joke. You know that, right?"
"Yeah. Of course. I don't care if you have a date or a girlfriend or whatever."
"It's not really a date and she's not really a girlfriend, but it is something important."
"Right." She didn't even know why it bothered her.
"Hey, chin up, OK? I'm sure the dinner will go great. Just be yourself and that'll be enough. I guarantee it. And if that doesn't work, it's not you. He's just a fool."
"Right."
"I'm going to head out. But good luck, Cordie Coaster. I'm sure you'll impress."
As Aiden took his leave, Cordie couldn't help but have a sour look on her face.
Why did the thought of Aiden going out on a date bother her so much? Now that she had Jai, she couldn't still be crushing on him, could she? What was wrong with her?
She had to get it together.

Thoughts on "Return to Chaos."
At the start of this review, I'm probably going to sound like I disliked this book or something. I swear I didn't (it's not something like "Coyote Moon", "Halloween Rain", or even parts of the "Unseen Trilogy", imo). It was good, just not great to me? At least the Druid parts.
I just feel like the stuff with the Druids was pretty predictable? That the leader of them, George, had been led astray by this deal he'd made with the vampire Eric--and really, he was being controlled by Eric--and that he was going to be seduced by ideas of grandeur and try and sacrifice Willow to try and get rid of demons forever and stuff.
I also felt like I strangely like the short Druid story in one of the "The Longest Night" Angel stories better, maybe. I don't know.
I did like that the three boys weren't on their uncle's side, of course. And the three boys in general, but I kind of feel like the novel could have done a better job at differentiating them all. I think we got a throwaway line about Ian being the serious one, the middle one (that I don't even remember the name of) being the funny one, and then the youngest one, Dave, being the youngest one, and because of that, desperate to prove himself and impress. But after that, they still kind of felt sames-y to me, and I often couldn't really tell them apart.
I also wasn't big of Buffy and Ian's romance, partly because I didn't think Ian was that developed. And also because I felt like he and Buffy didn't even really spend that much time together--especially not alone. As I guess Druids usually only date other Druids--and most of the book, Ian's kind of focused on what's going on with his uncle--and it just sort of seems like they only really like each other, because they're both people who fight the darkness (and probably because Buffy's on the rebound some). And I guess there are worse reasons to form a connection to someone, but I just didn't feel any chemistry, or anything else in common with them at all.
I also feel like Buffy wouldn't have been as gung-ho about Ian at this point in season three. I know she thinks she can't be with Angel--and fair: she can't--and she does think about Angel in this some. (I think this is after Buffy's "We're not friends. We never were" speech to Angel in S3.) But I guess I just expected her to be hung-up on him more, while trying to move on with Ian here? IDK.
Willow being kidnapped to be a sacrifice is definitely interesting to me, though--poor thing--and her cleverness in trying to get out of it. It makes me wonder if the books are canon at all, if Willow could relate to when Dawn was kidnapped to be sacrificed by Glory later on.
I also enjoyed Giles and Willow trying to find a way to give Buffy a break, so she isn't always bamboozled by sudden apocalypses and whatnot, by creating a computer algorithm that can predict bad things to come to the Hellmouth before they happen. That's how Willow was trying to get out of her captive situation, in fact, because the computer spat out a prophecy, and Willow was telling George that he got it all wrong.
What I really liked about this book were two of the female vampire villains that we had, who were both a joy to read. Because I was recently thinking that I wished that we had more girl vampires in this series.
The one is a former rival of Cordelia's, who puts Cordelia under a mastery spell--thrall, essentially--and is making Cordy do stuff the entire novel and then forget about it right after she's done it (because she was jealous of Cordy and wanted to destroy her life), which was a really interesting plot and my favorite part of this story.
I also loved the lore bit: that apparently this mastery spell thing was something vampires used to have, but they'd eventually lost the ability (the antagonist of this book Eric has it, though, and teaches it to Cordy's rival). And they mention how Drusilla is one of the few who reportedly still has it--and I'm assuming the Master? And Dracula, of course--and that's surely how she got Kendra under her spell so easily, to kill her:(
This all even fits in with the Angel & Faith comics, where Angel tells Drusilla that she was always so good with the hypnotism, but he could never get the hang of it.
Anyway...
Edit: One other cool thing I liked about this novel, was how it seemed like Joyce had some prophetic dreams herself.
#long post#buffy the vampire slayer#buffy book#buffy tie-in book#return to chaos#and though i get why xander and oz kind of ditched the girls some to hang-out with the druids. xander because he wanted to learn cool druid#powers to help out more. and oz because he thought they could teach him to control or get rid of his lycanthropy that kind of annoyed me#too. but anyway... i swear i didn't hate this book and even liked it. even though it probably doesn't sound like it at all. shutting up now#contradicts myself about shutting up by saying one more thing: like i feel like i bought into the buffy/pike having a romance again in s3#in the 'sins of the father' book more than this. and yeah. that might be because i have the buffy movie knowledge to go along with it. i#won't deny it#but i also think the book alone built them up better too. and even if i hadn't seen the movie i would have bought them better and liked#them better than ian. and buffy/ian. but maybe that's just me. -shrugs-

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E20 (part 1)
Go Fish
Beach party for the Sunnydale high swim team. Wait, Sunnydale has a beach? Where is this place supposed to be in California?
Buffy alone watching the ocean, the some guy comes in a ruins it.
How does Cam know he likes spending time with Buffy when this is probably the first time he has even spoken to her? Buffy spends the majority of her time with Willow, Xander, Cordy and Giles.
Jonathan is getting bullied again, and only Buffy steps in to help him. Seriously! Do something to stop bullying from happening if you see it.
We have a young Wentworth Miller in this episode. I have actually only seen him this, Underworld, Resident Evil: Afterlife (he was not a good choice for Chris and the films are just generally bad, but I watched it anyway because zombies), and The Loft (because Karl Urban is in it).
So, they took the term 'meat suit' literally in this episode. Cool and eww.
They still have Willow teaching? Is she getting paid to do this? Because she really should be. She is a teenager doing the job of a qualified adult.
Snyder reappears. Okay, substitute teachers can be hard to find. I've been through this when I was at school. During my 3 years of A-Levels (I resat my first year due to mental health struggles, which is it's own long story) I had teachers off due to illness or having been fired, mostly during my first and third years. My first year I took psychology, my teacher was there for a couple of months and then gone for the rest of the year. And my class barely had a teacher and we were expected to teach ourselves the materials needed for exams. We did eventually get a teacher, but only for 2 out of 4 classes a week. Occasionally we had to join the only other psychology class the school had, once a week. The one time we did get a sub, he didn't teach us shit and just expected us to know everything already despite never having seen the material he was glossing over before. He lasted a day because we complained about how bad the one class he taught was. Finding subs can be hard, finding good ones, even harder.
Snyder threatening Willow to change Gage's grade from a failing to a passing one. Does this happen in schools? Is it really even allowed? Because I get Xander's subsequent outrage, some of us work hard to get our grades, and others just get to skirt by and have them handed to them. Fuck off. How about you encourage your athletes to do well in all their classes or get them extra tutoring?
Then Xander calls Buffy a perk for the swim team because she is hanging out with Cam, despite the fact she is bored as shit listening to him only talking about swimming and water. Dude! She is not a perk, you're just jealous.
"I'm not going to pressure you" then asks if she is wearing a bra and locks her in his car! All this happens after Buffy says that it was nice being someone without romantic pressure. What the actual fuck, you dickless shit of a human being?
Buffy acted in self-defence. She was trapped in a car with a guy who was about to SA her is she did not act. He is lucky he only got a sprained wrist and a bloody nose. But then it is spun into victim blaming "she led me on" No, she did not. "Look at the way she dresses" you mean like a normal teenage girl? It's around about summer, in California, she is going to dress for that type of weather. Clothing doesn't cause assaults. Victims don't cause assaults, a assaulters, predators, and r****sts do. Anyone who says otherwise is a c**t.
Now everyone is on the same page about how the swim team sucks. Good.

Idk if I'm alone in this but I'm rewatching bits of Ats, and I dont actually mind when Cangel was sort of one-sided? Like when Angel is jealous of Gru and Cordy is oblivious. Not the stupid waiting in the wings episode (i did NOT need to see them kiss that much, and besides Bangel did possesion better).
But I liked how Angel could admit that yeah he has a little crush on his friend/co-worker, it didn't feel like a betrayal to his feelings for Buffy bc that is actual love. But it added some comedy and kind of allowed them to explore Cangel without going there (yet). Like if it had stopped there, and he got over the crush and was like oh I just miss buffy/loneliness then I would have accepted the Cangel storyline.
Idk if any of that rambling made sense but if you have any thoughts about it haha they would be welcomed. I dont know anyone
Oooh interesting take. As always, strong agree that I Only Have Eyes For You was the PERFECT execution of that kind of possession. It was layered and complicated and drove the plot forward. Waiting in the Wings did absolutely ZERO for the plot, the characters, nothing. Who was that for? Personally, I think if we HAD to have a "crush" SL (and I firmly believe we didn't), I think we already went there in BTVS. Cordelia was absolutely into Angel, or at least the idea of him, and when she learned that he was in love with Buffy and was never going to pay her any mind, she moved on. So having Angel fall for her now is kinda like...been there done that? And also, the whole concept of "adopted family" or chosen family, implies to me exactly that, you don't want to date your family (general "you", and I guess, on this site HOPEFULLY you don't). And honestly, the "crushing on the friend" or "secretly in love with the friend" "in love with the friend and not even realizing it" has been done to death and with far more nuance than we got in AtS, and the actual refreshing take for me was not a single member of the gang at the time having any romantic interest in each other, and instead were dedicated to supporting each other like a real family. That's fresh and new and something they already established, I don't think Angel having a crush on Cordy adds anything to their characters, anything to the plot or direction of the show, it's just kind of a "well might as well have the two hottest people be together" and I really think that's intellectually and narratively lazy.

Do you think that Angel and Cordelia were actually in love?
Oh my, were they? I wonder about this too sometimes.
In my heart, I wanna say no. But if I look at the writing and the storytelling, are they telling me yes?
The way Angel and Cordelia were with each other didn't look like love to me, but what do I know? Imo, they didn't have that kind of chemistry, and it's even hard to believe Angel had a crush on Cordelia, or Cordelia on Angel despite her personality change in season 3.
It's also weird how two people who had been in love before struggled so badly to recognize and accept their feelings. Was that just because of the Connor drama? Or was it that they were in love with the idea of being in love? With the potential they had to become a couple? It would be easy for them to date, in the sense that they already shared their lives and knew what a relationship between them would entail. And Wes had even told Angel that it wouldn't be perfect happiness.
It's not unfair to say Angel and Cordelia were pushed to see each other in a romantic light. Angel's interest in Cordelia dropped when Connor was kidnaped (understandable), but maybe what happened was that the fantasy of a perfect family was shattered - his desire to be with Cordelia seemed tied with his desire to have a conventional family (as seen in Deep Down). On Cordelia's part, there is also the Jasmin thing, but I won't get into that since I don't really get it myself.
Angel's behavior around Cordelia can be interpreted in many ways. For example, Angel getting jealous of Groo isn't necessarily any different from him getting jealous of Lindsey when he sang and all his friends "fell" for him. Especially because Cordelia is a woman, and men get possessive of women or hungry for their approval and attention, and Angel was used to being the cool, heroic, strong one until Groo appeared.
I think it's more interesting and consistent with canon to believe that Angel wasn't in love with Cordy, but rather with the idea of having someone.
Angel and Buffy aren't any different in their desire to be normal. A huge part of Buffy's story is her struggle to maintain a normal life despite being a slayer, which is partly why she tried to date so often. When Angel learned he could Shanshu and become human that lit a fire inside him. In seasons 2 and 5, we see how he almost loses himself in his obsession (particularly when he feels like hope is lost); however, in seasons 3 and 4, his desire to be normal is not expressed as a desire to literally become human, but rather a desire to act human.
With the unexpected arrival of Connor, Angel, again, finds himself hoping and dreaming of the impossible. It's even more dangerous this time because Connor was real and he had him for a glorious second. And because people are "greedy", it wasn't just Connor he wanted, but the whole package, everything he had been denied before: romantic and familiar love (something Angel had even tried to find with Darla and the fang gang when he was first cursed).
Hope has always been dangerous to Angel. To achieve redemption, to become human, to be human - from seasons 2 onward, Angel nearly lost everything fighting for it. It's not a coincidence that he was most stable in season 1, when all he hoped for was to be have a purpose, to redeem himself a little, to hate himself a little less, to erase his past. This already sounds like a lot, but until he believed he could actually do it (in the form of higher beings forgiving him and rewarding him with humanity), Angel wasn't as unstable, obsessive, and alternately driven and hopeless, as he was in seasons 2 and 5.
His relationship with Cordelia became just another obsession for him in season 4. He wanted Cordelia all the more because he dreamt of that perfect family while trapped in a coffin at the bottom of the ocean, and because Connor, his teenage son, seemed to be closer to the fantasy than himself.
Finally, I must also acknowledge You're Welcome. Cordelia was already herself then, and she does hint at having feelings for Angel. She even initiates the kiss. Angel kisses her back too. A kiss means nothing though, and Angel's pain was over losing his best friend, not a lover. If anything, that kiss was a bittersweet ending to a relationship which never took off, and couldn't have existed outside of those very specific circumstances (and I think the episode shows this in some way).
Okay, so, did the writers want us to think they were in love? Probably. But I don't think it's that simple because they had plenty of opportunities to make Angel's feelings for Cordelia clearer and deeper and backed off every time.
Ultimately, I don't care what the writers' intentions were, I believe they weren't in love (even on Cordelia's part it was more friendship and longing for companionship imo).
Thanks for the ask! Forgot to be concise again.
