the one bittersweet lifelong dream that will forever go unfulfilled I allow myself to ingulge in is to one day see live and have professionally recorded a version of Don Juan Tenorio: Drama religioso-fantástico en dos partes where he's the one reading the letter instead of giving doña inés the best part of the entire play and not letting her do anything with it because she has to stay in character

sadly, theatre directors love failure and hate drama, so I will simply stew in hate forever

i think the seduction scene in don juan tenorio is a bit too short to justify his complete moral 360. I've always seen it played very dramatic and straight-forward, which doesn't give a lot of information on what's essentially don juan and doña inés' first real conversation

maybe the way to make sense of it is to have him give his spiel without looking at her ("paloma mía" this and "gacela mía" that), and then he realizes she's crying ("y esas dos líquidas perlas...") and he softens a bit. And then, have brave little Inés, who we've seen seriously struggling with her own desires and fears for a while now, get up and give her own hiccuping love confession. I think letting some of the confusion and awkwardness mix in with the traditional passionate daze at that point can make Inés' character really shine, and give don Juan (and us) something human to love

And then, after we've all gone "awww", don Juan realizes this is no "earthly love" etc. etc.

Someone was asking me to recommend Spanish classics and that's such a rough question because in general I hated reading the classics

Not all of them, but a lot of them. And I didn't hate the books, but I did not have a fun time reading it because of all the archaic words and grammar differences so it takes twice as long as you'd normally take to read, and that's assuming you're fluent

Lots of the classics have merit, but aren't necessarily "fun", it will really depend on whether you enjoy reading classics, and if you just happen to like the book

Because I don't necessarily mind reading the classics like Conde Lucanor or Don Juan Tenorio y el convidado de piedra were fun to read, but some books like Cien años de soledad are definitely full of merit but not fun (or weren't for me at least)

But if you want a modern classic that I actually love and always recommend it's House on Mango Street

Most of the other classics I know I had to read for literature classes and half of it is like 1920s-1950ss, and the other half is like 1600s or before that

...

And me personally I have this weird thing with book recommendations where I'm torn between just books I actually recommend or books that people should generally read/know about

[and if I'm being honest the latter you can usually find a good list on google or goodreads as far as Spanish Language Classics or top 50 books in Spanish, not to knock the question it's just of course I'm going to say Don Quixote is a masterwork and so is everyone... there are a few books in the masterworks (or Western literary canon in general) that are particularly not fun to read, but very few people doubt their literary merit]

by unpopular demand, I'm back! We're throwing a giant costume ball in a fancy castle for Halloween. The grander the better. There's no budget constrictions to take into account, the world's your oyster, tell me, what would you go dressed as? How would it look? Does the party have a theme? If you were to host it what'd be the vibe? Where are you usually found at in parties? 😊

I wasn't aware "unpopular" meant "very popular". Guess it's the same as "nonplussed", weird how language works!

I have two ideas, one that's very niche but I'd really like to do, and one that's just the better version of the party my friends and I are throwing this year (me?? throwing a themed party??? apparently!)

The niche one would be a Don Juan Tenorio inspired party. Whether this means getting in character to go see the play or getting wasted and really sad in a cementery depends on what you would consider a party, lol - Thought I have to say that I don't know who I'd be in this scenario. Don Gonzalo, maybe?? I do miss drag.

The party we're throwing this year is Shrek themed (lowkey overdone but any of the less-mainstream ideas we brought up were too niche for some of the normies in the group *clown emoji*), so I'd really like to do that properly - get a disney-style castle to host it in, get cool costumes for everyone, themed food... We'd recreate the dating show from the second movie, there'd be an obligatory "I need a hero" performance, you know the deal. I think that could be really cool.

Oh dude, I am reading "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-García and I NEED a fanfic like that with SpUk

where Antonio is called to the Kirkland mansion to discover the mystery of that house that is poisoning one of his relatives. Of course located somewhere in northern Spain. Honestly, the dynamic between Noemí and Francis, Noemí an extroverted woman, with a somewhat strong but kind character and a more liberal self with Francis, someone who is more shy, reserved, grumpy and has a melancholic past. That totally reminded me of Antonio and Arthur.

I will finish the novel and see if I write myself a fanfic like that, I would love to put references to 19th Century literature like Don Juan Tenorio or the lyrical stories of Gabriel Miro, ofc Wuthering Heights and Carmilla.

In Mexico there is a town that was previously dedicated to mining called "Real del Monte" that has influences in terms of Spanish architecture from the colonial period but also elements of English Victorian architecture from the English migration to the country for the mining industry during the 19th century. Real del Monte, It's where "Mexican Gothic" takes place.

Mina y Nina (Dina) Caliente , the sisters are delighted to meet themselves

Her love triangle with Juan Tenorio (Don Lothario) , his feeling rejected, her alien family contacts and her desire for her wealth were the reasons for their evil plan, Bella's disappearance.

Juan wanted to get Bella, the most difficult of all, the most desired and the most unattainable, he couldn't stand her rejection, if he didn't have her, no one would have her. His little golden beak came in handy to get an accomplice...but he didn't need much time to convince Mina of his evil plan.

She from an alien family was the perfect sidekick, it would be very easy for her to move a couple of galactic green threads.

It was the perfect plan, Juan would recover his damaged pride and Mina would have the way clear to conquer the poor sad and lonely widower Homero (Mortimer), marry him and keep his fortune.

Furthermore, she never liked her sister-in-law, she was so perfect, she couldn't stand her, she was always very jealous of her.

Mina's grandfather entrusted the "little matter" to his cousin Pollination Tech 9... it seemed like a simple plan to wait for Bella to go to the terrace of Juan's house, to deceive her with the help of Bella's great interest in the mysterious so that she would look through the telescope... and bang, right at that moment, he catches her with his ship and takes her far, far away ...

but something went wrong... the engines started to smoke... a small loss of control... and they ended up crashing on a desert place...

Here she was happy, lived a full life, and decided to stop taking the elixir of life, grow old and die.
