Summary:

Away from the holidays, You missed Garreth's presence. Luckily, his gift would remedy that.

December came around Hogwarts like a welcomed breath of fresh air. 4 months of slogging around books, quills that need the nibs sharpen from all the times being dragged alongside parchment, or the rush of going to another class finally came to a halt. Now students are packing up, just wanting to take a break before the next spring term. 

You too, had been busy as well. During your fifth year it was all a bit much, with the threat of Ranrok and being trusted into the magical world all of a sudden, you wondered how you even managed to keep up with your studies. Lucky for you, your OWLs were decent enough to continue to sixth year, where you took it easy. 

As of right now, the train was going to depart this afternoon as you packed up in your dorm room first thing in the morning. You can't wait to get back home, take a break from school, looking forward to Christmas morning opening presents and stuffing yourself with home cooked food. But as you put the last of your clothes away, a twang of sadness hits you. Sighing as you locked your suitcase, you lay down on your bed, hugging a pillow. It would be a long holiday without Garreth Weasley. 

You had no idea that he fancied you, in fact he had been nervous to tell you about his feelings as Sebastian and Amit had been dragging you to their adventures, wondering where he fits in. Before the end of your fifth year, he took whatever courage he had left in him to ask if you would ever look his way before you boarded the Hogwarts express, returning home for the summer holidays.

You felt confused at first, unsure what to do as it was your first time that anyone had confessed to you about their feelings, nor did you realize you had that magnetic effect on people. He even explained his resentment towards your friends, especially with Sebastian. But you never saw Sebastian other than friends, in fact it was a strange sibling-like relationship. You know you were merely a substitute to his sickly twin sister, but you didn't mind. Calmly, you explained the state of your relationship with Sebastian and Amit to Garreth, stating you only saw them as friends. 

"So... would you still...?"

"I... I am not so sure, Garreth..."

"Please... just give me a chance. That is all I will ask." 

"..."

You agreed. Garreth was thrilled, he kissed your hands as he said he wanted to prove it to you. As you returned home, the letters from him over the summer made you giddy with excitement. Your first love, the type that everyone tells you that you only experience once, and you relished in it. You hated to admit it, but on those summer nights, you wished he was there with you, right next to your bed. You wrote back to him that you have begun to miss his presence, as the summer holiday began to seem so long without him by your side. How is it that you didn't pay attention to his sense of humor, the cheekiness of his smile, or the puppy dog eyes of green that always looked your way? You now wished you had the chance to run your fingers in his messy red locks, or to kiss every freckle that decorated his cheeks. 

When the two of you finally met again at the platform heading to Hogwarts, you couldn't let him go so easily. A fresh start to your sixth year at last, with a lover in tow. 

Then the tapping of your window jolted your nerves, getting up from your bed, pillow tossed aside as you saw a brown owl with a sealed letter and a strange package wrapped in brown paper addressed to you. Opening the window and grabbing the letter and package, you watched the owl fly away as you closed the window, opening the letter immediately. 

Hello dearest, 

I wish we can say goodbye at the Hogsmeade station before we begin the holidays, but Aunt Matilda has other plans. I am so sorry my dearest about this, I wanted to kiss you goodbye before we leave. But I am a man of my word, enclosed with this letter is your Christmas gift from me. There is a reason why I wanted to give it to you early, because from what you told me over the summer, I want to comfort you the best I can. Enjoy it, and when you miss me, spray it all over your pillow and hug it real tight, oh but do it alone in a locked room, you will see why. I worked hard on this, it took me about two weeks but I think the results are worth it.

Garreth Weasley. 

Well that is a bummer. You were hoping for that goodbye kiss at least. Nevertheless, you placed that package and his letter into your suitcase, getting ready to head to Hogsmeade station.

"Good night my dear." 

"Good night."

As the door closed, you looked out, snow falling into your window. It was so cold, so chilly that you could feel it biting into your bones. Winter this time had been cruel, the snow is thicker this time. But before you went to sleep, you went to your suitcase, finding that package of brown paper that you had been eager to open since receiving it this morning. 

Upon tearing away at the flimsy paper, a box of red velvet greeted you as you set it on the side table, the candle flickering to reveal it was locked securely with a silver coloured lock. Nothing like an Alohomora can't solve, as you whispered the incantation and waved your wand. 

The box opened itself to reveal a glass bottle, decorated elaborately and with an atomizer. Perfume... Garreth gifted you perfume? That is odd... but you recalled what he said in his letter... 

When you miss me, spray it all over your pillow and hug it real tight...

And that is what you did, taking your spare pillow and giving a couple of spritzes, letting the little droplets settle in before placing the perfume back in it's box and into the drawer of your bedside table. You got cozy, going underneath your blankets and then, you grabbed that pillow, hugged it tight and took a sniff...

Oh... 

Oh my. 

Your nose took you on a trip, recalling all of the memories the both of you created together. The perfume was expertly crafted, smooth but the bold notes hit you hard as you felt like you were reliving your memories with Garreth all over again as you closed your eyes, but this time it was all at once. It was warm, clean and cheerful, a sharp contrast to the bitter cold winter outside. 

You took in another breath, inhaling it till it hits your lungs, really focusing on the scent trail that Garreth took the time to compose. At first, you noted the bergamot and cinnamon, but an odd cardamom and ginger danced along with it. It oddly smells like the herbs of the Potion's classroom, where he first greeted you and tried to get you to steal a Fwooper feather for him. It was playful, an introduction of what was to come. 

Then, the opening notes that quickly went away gave into a beautiful floral bouquet composed of the white floral notes of jasmine, the bright and earthy scent of ylang-ylang, the herbal smell of angelica, the woody yet powdery notes of the iris flower and the crisp freshness of geranium... but they are only there to support the very bold and romantic rose, as it began to act like a blooming flower to your nostrils. It took you back to when he first took you out for a date in Hogsmeade, where he greeted you with the most eccentric bouquet, colourful and odd. But you remembered that date more, where he got cream on his face after messily eating a cream puff. 

But the floral notes slowly gave way to a sensual, hazy base, the end of the perfume. It was dream-like, the smoky incense, the woody sandalwood, the earthy vetiver, the creamy vanilla, spicy patchouli with rich tonka beans that became players to the skin scent of musk. You only knew where you smelled this, on the night you gave Garreth your virginity. Your head spins when the two of you snuck into an unused bedroom, apparently he found a map when he got detention that led him here. The two of you only want a private place to kiss, but it leads to something more. He asked if you were ready and you nodded, you wanted more from him right there and then. You remembered that moment like a fever dream, lying down on linen sheets as his hands ghosted your bare skin, his tongue setting your nerves into a high, the way he filled you up just right. Oh to surrender yourself completely to him, set your entire being into a fire that stirred inside of you, for you swore you felt his fingers on your skin, as if he is right there with you now... to soothe how much you missed him.

"All right now, my dear?"

You swore you heard his voice in your ears. You kept your eyes shut as your voice whispered back as sleep crept to your head at last.

"Never better."

Hilarious! A Must Own Book For Everyone! This book was a gift from my son, because I have two dogs. It's incredibly funny, to see the world as perceived by the dog. What seemed very bizarre or inexplicable before does become clear, but you have to stop laughing first. The situations and the unpredictable behavior of dogs appear in cartoon vignettes throughout the entire book. Dogs do have very "strange" behaviors (as seen by humans), but this little "Oatmeal" publication straightens us out in a hurry. I haven't laughed this hard at a humorous book in a long time. The other books published by Oatmeal (all featuring a main animal character) are equally funny, and I have bought all of them.
