I think the reason a lot of the newer disney star wars stuff doesn't work for me is that it feels like it's more focused on being a "star wars" themed story rather than being a science fiction story

I love love love the contrast between first Suvi and then Sworn extending care to Maddy as an untested young Wizard under harrowing circumstances vs. Indri taking on all of these young Witch apprentices with the express purpose of consuming/destroying them once they actually learn any magic.

I love the reminder that for Suvi, the Citadel is her home and school, and also all of the other things.

It's not just the army she's wanted to fight for, it's also the streets and people of her family and community, it's all her teachers, professors, the panel for her Wizard grad school thesis. It's the place where she did a bunch of stupid kid stuff that almost got her killed, and it's where whatever she's going to become with Silver started.

It's also the place that's crushing the life out of her best friend. It's the thing that Morrow was aiming for when he trapped Naram. It's the thing her parents died for instead of coming back to her.

And Indri, by very funny contrast, is just the world's worst Intern supervisor. 0/10 experience, would not get my magic consumed again. Just absolutely the worst.

wait yeah tags on that post just made me realize something. armand doesn’t really understand unconditional parental love (in show canon) does he? i mean he might know of the concept but he has never felt it. his own parents sold him into slavery and after that every adult that ‘loved’ him was in romantic or sexual ways, never parental. Then, he never has kids (excluding benji and sybelle here as we haven’t met them in the show yet and they kind of put an end to this) or fledglings (except daniel, and that dynamic was clearly not parental anyway)

Like his hatred for Claudia was absolutely through not wanting Louis’s affections to be split and having to put up with him caring more about her than him when he wanted Louis all to himself to escape the coven he’d grown tired of, but it was also because he saw her as a romantic rival. In his mind, Louis couldn’t love both Claudia and him because he was already satisfied with having Claudia as his ‘companion’ and Armand couldn’t see that that was because she was his daughter/sister rather than his lover.

Louis is of course homosexual in the show rather than bisexual in the books and I assume Armand knew this which kind of removes some credibility from this but the point is that if you told Armand you loved someone because they were your child he would not understand that. To him, love is inherently romantic or sexual (which I think informs why he slept with most of the coven too, he can’t just have friends)

Okay so new Love is Blind season dropped on Netflix (my guilty pleasure) and it’s got me thinking of a Chrobin!Love is Blind AU. I have zero time to write it with two ongoing fics to my name, but here are some thoughts to get the vision from my brain:

I think it could be a cool framing for support conversations happening, with each support convo being one of the “dates”

If F!Chrobin just imagining they’re That couple that gets engaged immediately and has incredible chemistry that makes you be like “there’s no way this isn’t fake” but it’s REAL, those people found each other on the wildest dating show. Then they end up being like that unproblematic couple surrounded by relationships on fire a la Lauren and Cameron from season 1, just like sending each other horrified wide-eyed stares when some shit goes down with the other contestants at a bar or something. Even 8 seasons later, they’re still together. How did they do it? Everyone wants to be them.

If M!Chrobin, they’re both contestants having dates and generally enjoying it, but outside the dates when they’re back in the dorms they just gravitate towards each other and seek each other out until one day they’re looking forward to their time together more than the dates they’re on and they both decide to bounce from the show and are never heard from again (they’re happily married).

I've procrastinated it before, but since I'm watching Penrith play at OUR home ground, I thought I'd finally elaborate on why I believe the Parramatta Eels are doomed by the narrative, as requested by @killeroos (yes I'm dedicating an entire post to this because I'm a bit insane)

So this is focused on Parra's last 2 grand final appearances (2009 and 2022), which they lost against the Storm and the Panthers respectively.

In both cases, Parra had played well throughout the year. They were good enough that had they played against any other team in the Grand Final, they would have stood a much better chance at winning, and quite possibly could have done so.

But that's the thing - it wasn't any other team. Both the Storm and the Panthers had been so good that they won their games to enter the Grand Final quite handily. Parra had been good, but they had been better, and the end result was already decided in most people's minds the moment they were confirmed as Parra's opponents.

Parramatta could have won against anyone else, but it was never going to be anyone else. The Storm and the Panthers were simply too good. Parra was doomed before the Grand Final even happened.

i so often find myself longing for times gone by, like moments in childhood and adolescence and i know that i had a kinda tough time through those times because of anxiety and my solution to that was to shut myself in my room so i was a pretty lonely kid. but still a lot of times i will remember very fondly moments from before (i am a very nostalgic person) and i think the reason for that is because now that those times have ended, so are the bad parts of them as well. and through my memory i am allowed to exist in them without any of the weight they once used to hold. in my memory i don't have to go to school tomorrow and be scared of people making fun of me there. i can only relive the fun i used to have watching game shows with my grandmother or playing gta san andreas while my sister is watching tv next to me

If I read self-insert fanfic, I don't usually imagine the "reader" character as me. Y/N is just some mystical creature. They're invincible, they're fragile, they're the smartest and/or dumbest person in the world. They can befriend any hero, or defeat any villain (sometimes by befriending them, as well). They have infinite faces and infinite names, yet none at all. Sometimes they hold the key to saving the world, or destroying it, other times they're just trying not to get fired from the local cafe. While I cannot imagine myself in many of these situations, I do sometimes find myself wondering how Y/N will solve them.

half asleep, something weird occurred to me.

dresses and skirts refer to 2 different things. but dresses HAVE skirts.

from this 2 thoughts emerged simultaneously:

1) different dresses have different length skirts. and just bc a dress is long doesnt mean it has a long skirt and vice versa.

for example one of those poofy cupcake fairy dresses that fluff out right under the bust? thats a short dress with a long skirt. and a mermaid dress that is slim but peplums at the bottom? long dress, short skirt.

2) lizards and snakes have different tail lengths proportionate to their body. a snake may be much bigger than a lizard but will still proportionately have a smaller tail.

conclusion: long skirted dresses are lizard dresses. short skirted dresses are snake dresses.
