Donatello (Wrap Me In Plastic)

Donnie heard the song playing over your personal speaker in the garage when he was heading back to his new project on the shell-raiser with a fresh cup of coffee.

intrigued, he wasted no time heading over, leaning against a tool box and just listening along as you moved to the music while taking a break from the engine you were rebuilding.

when the lyrics finally seeped through the caffeine fugue he's battling, he sets the coffee aside, sliding into your space and seamlessly integrating himself into your dance.

Pulling a laugh out of you was his goal, but he soon found himself pulling you closer as the chorus hit, curling into your space to tuck his beak close to your ear, one hand cupping your joined hands to his pectoral scute and the other dangerous low on your back.

needless to say Raph, who was trying to fit a new muffler to his motorcycle, took one look over at the pair of you and hastily beat a silent path out of the garage.

Donnie waited until he heard the bolt in the main door click into place before he tipped you backwards into a steep dip and slanted his mouth over yours.

now it's a staple in the safe garage music playlist, and Donnie never fails to pause his project and come find you when he hears the opening bars.

Raphael (Scream) ....(c'mon there was so much red in that music video)

It wasn't often Raph could catch you singing while cooking, usually you were much too aware of your surroundings to let loose while others were listening

This time though he got lucky, and took adbantage of his ability to blend in to simple watch and listen for a bit, slowly smiling when he realized exactly which song you were singing

he wated until you had moved awat from the oven, stretching upwards to reach a bowl on the top shelf, before he slotted in behind you and slide a large hand across your hip right as you sid the word "scream"

he didn't get a scream, but that was ok, because he was far more interested in tipping your head back and slotting his mouth over yours. there was plenty of other noises he was interested in hearing, after all.

by the time whatever was in the oven got done baking, he'd parked you on a counter and gotten drunk off exploring what your tongue felt like against his. he didn't want to stop to get whatever it was out, it was only our promises to stay 'right there, sweetheart' that finally got him to save the casserole from a burnt end

even weeks later, whenever the song pops up from your playlist, you catch him giving you a lopsided smirk, a silent promise to get you alone soon

Leonardo (Drop Dead Beautiful)

Leo was just trying to get his tea and get back to his book when he heard the opening lines to the song in your lilting voice and froze, eyes searching for you, surprised because he didn't even know you had come down for a visit.

when he found you in the living room, cleaning what looked like Mikey's mess from the previous night while singing, his first thought was to go find his little brother and inflict damage for leaving trash on the floor

but then you turned, and he froze for a completely different reason when you leveled a game controller in his direction and started singing to him.

You got butterflies going crazy in this turtle's chest, almost made him drop his tea, frozen in place as you danced closer and tried to coax him into joining you. He's only gonna agree after making sure no one is paying attention, but eventually he'll put the tea down and take your hand when you openly start pouting at him

Leo might be the pretty boy of his brothers, but he'll never believe any of them could be considered beautiful. He knows enough about you though to know you would never lie to him, especially on this, so really he's just confused, sky, bashful but willing to believe you're singing this song about him. Might even get him to chuckle if you start dropping whenever you get to the part that goes "drop dead- drop dead- dr-drop dead."

It becomes a little secret between the two of you, where you can make his skin turned mottled just by running your hand over his carapace in greeting and dropping the line "what's up, beautiful," in his ear. He absolutely loves it, but the real fun will be saying it in a whisper when his brothers are around. Then, you'll get a contemplative, squinty eyed look. Just be aware he's plotting revenge and it will 100% be in his favor.

Michelangelo (Hush Hush: Don't be Shy)

Mikey would be the one to turn on the music whenever the two of you are cleaning the kitchen, bopping fast through his music until he hits one and clocks the way your hips start shimmying in the corner of his vision. He already knows you love this song, maybe he's secretly hoping to get a show out of putting it on for you.

It's a quick song, but just long enough for you to get into the groove of singing it and moving in a simple dance with the mop, and Mikey shadows your notes, following along while he tosses clean hand towels into the drawer and cheers you on. When it ends he sticks his tongue out at you and you laugh when you realize its looping back around to the beginning once more.

When the pair of you are done cleaning, Mikey wastes no time taking you in his arms, not caring about the still damp floor underneath your feet or the way your singing is breaking up from the giggles. If anything, this is his favorite part.

If his brothers need anything from the fridge they'll have to dance around the pair of you, because Mikey's not letting you go until he gets at least a solid ten minutes of dancing, no please babycakes, just once more, Raph can totally wait to get to the cupboards don't mind him-

totally steals kisses in between spinning you around, smooches, long presses of his mouth against yours, goading "hush hush don't be shy" if you try and pull away before he gets his quota for the dance.

Personally, i can only agree and i have my reasons for it, but I'm still curious as to why you dislike it?

I don't like it mainly because it's so... obviously made for little kids. In every part of it.

No culprit is actually bad, but rather 99% of them were doing a bad thing for a good reason, which is fine once in a while, but this is the case in literally every single episode, and it gets old quickly. They made a detective/mystery anime with no actual crimes depicted. I mean come on. On top of that, the episodes are so painfully formulaic. The mysteries themselves are interesting enough though, which is probably the only reason why i managed to suffer through it to the end. I also just generally dislike Layton becoming a father. I don't doubt he'd be good at it, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of person who would just adopt a whole ass child. I'm also generally not a fan of "popular character becomes a parent, so their child can continue their legacy". I just hate that trope in general. Children are not their parents and it's unrealistic to expect them to be.

And I'm also not a big fan of the main characters. I could probably write more if i seriously thought about it, but as a whole i can say that i just find them grating. Katrielle is supposedly an "english lady", but we rarely see her acting actually ladylike in the anime. Her interest in sweets is fine enough, but it's so overblown that it's just not believable anymore and instead turns into her only character trait, completely overshadowing her supposed interest in mysteries, which just seems like bad writing. And while the main plot, so to speak, of the whole show is her finding the professor, the only times that even comes up is in the episodes that are exclusively about that. Katrielle isn't really shown to be missing him at all, not even in private, which makes it seem more like she's searching for him out of obligation rather than because she actually wants to. The moments shown of Katrielle and Layton in the past are so few, it just seems like they wanted to do their own thing with the show, but had to slap the Layton brand name onto it for the brand recognition, and i wouldn't be surprised if that was the truth tbh.

Noah, or as the english subs called him, "Ernest" (for whatever reason), is probably my least favourite kind of character. I don't know, maybe it's his character design that makes me dislike him so much. I hate how he's such a huge scaredy cat and that being his one and only sole character trait. Seriously, what other character traits does he have? If you know any, please tell me, because i legit cannot think of any. Well, he does have this one other character trait of having a huge crush on Katrielle, but is unable or unwilling to actually ever act on it, which is a trope that I'm just so tired of. Like, either grow some balls and make a move instead of being passive aggressive to every other potential partner that approaches her, or give up on your crush and grow a personality! I don't care about how "realistic" this kind of thing is supposed to be, it makes for a terrible character. That coupled with his general demeanor just makes him boring as hell. If he was replaced by a lapdog that got carried around in a small purse, i doubt the anime would be much different. His only backstory we get is his two-episode backstory thing, but the whole thing hinges on an initial misunderstanding, or rather, it hinges on everyone else deliberately keeping Noah in the dark. He shows character traits in those episodes that could actually lead to him becoming interesting, but as soon as those are over, he's back to his normal, boring self, which is a huge shame.

Sherl the dog is the classic (and literal, in this case) example of "all bark, no bite". It's never explained why only Katrielle and Noah can understand him, and this fact doesn't matter either, because it's rarely, if ever, called out by other characters. He doesn't have the sense of smell like a typical dog, effectively making him useless. His role is the animal mascott of the agency and anime, the third character to make a trio, and to be the comic relief. That last one is a shame though, because he's not funny at all. Or maybe the whole "yelling at ridiculous character for being ridiculous" thing is just not my thing.

These are my main reasons. There are a few more things I don't like, but those are more nitpicks.

my reasons are probably going to be more based on bias rather than the overall quality of the show bc to be completely honest with you i hate both mystery room & lady layton and think both attempts to “reboot” layton was lazy, uninspired and unnecessary

and if a lot of this makes me sound like an old ass man its bc i am when it comes to layton. my 7 year old ass was playing CV on its release week in the US. im an OG snob to the bone so honestly you should take my beef with LMDA with a grain of salt when it comes to presenting legit critique bc while i do hav legit critique, above all else i have “i just hate this shit”

hino ignored “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and for that i never intended to give either spin-off a chance and im not ashamed to admit that this point. i knew i wasnt going to like mystery room when it was announced, but it was so obviously a spin-off that it was very easy to ignore and safely assume it was just an AU type deal

but then shit got personal when i found out LMJ was going to be professor layton’s successor. back in the day when all that hoopla was occurring i always had to back up my complaints by emphasizing its not bc i don’t like the change, its bc of x and bc of y.

but the truth is there was nothing wrong with LMJ in regards to the game they were trying to make. LMJ and by extension LMDA is for kids, marketed towards kids. thats why the puzzles are piss easy. they’re not badly made, they’re for children. the plot isn’t sterile and corny and safe, its for kids.

if LMJ/LMDA were a spinoff i wouldnt have had such a problem with it. but it wasnt. it was supposed to be a successor to layton, but its not a successor, its a total replacement that fails its source material in every possible way

and thats my problem with it. professor layton didn’t need to be remade. it didn’t need to be remade for children. children could stomach the original perfectly fine. the unwound future trauma beat my 8 yr old ass and i came out just fine

there is nothing wrong with LMJ/LMDA if it stayed in its fucking lane. instead hino attempted to replace a franchise with it that was totally and utterly different in every aspect which totally alienated OG fans and completely failed to capture new ones

and i hate LMDA more strongly bc the relic stone arc is such a failure of a professor layton story. it steps all over hershel’s character and makes him such a prideful deadbeat who gladly sends himself and luke to their possible demise for NO fucking reason. if layton knew they were going to get captured by rufus aldebaran’s stupid cult then why the FUCK did he let luke come with him. jesus fucking christ. he would not let that boy walk to his death

..or maybe he would bc of what happened in azran legacy. fuck me. i swear to god everything thats wrong with LMDA i can trace back to azran legacys writing somehow

hershel aside it also shat on any of the impact that we would’ve gotten seeing luke’s growth. LMDA just throws a fucking eeeve stone at him and even then we learn almost fucking nothing about him or his wife or how they met. marina is the only character i found even a little bit interesting due to how fucking hardass it was that she indoctrinated herself into the cult that froze her man for 10 yrs JUST so she could one day save him. but ofc the fandom shat on her when LMDA was airing bc she wasnt luke’s husband (which she is btw. sorry some of u werent woke enough to see that)

hino obv knows by now that the reboot failed in nwos is any indication. and i don’t want to rip on hino bc at the end of the day after azran legacy blew fat stank ass in sales, he was just trying to bring bag back to professor layton. this just wasnt it and hopefully the hype around nwos has showed him the actual way forward for the franchise and if hes swagful enough he’ll just start giving LMJ the flora treatment

but yea this is such my brainshit of thoughts for why i personally hate LMJ/LMDA. hopefully it was even a little bit coherent and ty for giving me a chance to ramble and sharing your own thoughts 💖

why clive is THE ‘tumblr sexyman’ of the professor layton fandom; a short thesis written at 5am.

“descole fits sexyman tropes more than clive does” no he doesn’t. look at my url. this is coming from someone with a long long background of once-ler fandom and sexyman studies (and terrorising the pl fandom with clive/once-ler ship art LOL). SO. im educated in this matter is what im saying. the once-ler, AKA the ORIGINAL tumblr sexyman, SHAPED an entire generation and put the term tumblr sexyman in the internet vernacular which also made this whole competition exist in the first place so you better show some RESPECT to that man’s name.

clive’s polarising personalities: outwardly charming and friendly (future luke), inwardly malicious and spiteful (clive). his story arc: his selfishness and delusion leading to irredeemable destruction followed by his commitment to atonement even if it meant his lifelong imprisonment. he’s even got a weird kind of father figure in his story who tries to save him from himself. and then how the fandom that sprouted up around him was a microcosmic version of the once-ler response: some skinny white villain in a suit who was barely even the main character of their own media, their SINGLE piece of media (not counting precious versions of the same story here re:the lorax), suddenly taking an internet collective by storm to a surprising degree and giving impetus to a fandom-wide legacy of fame and infamy for said character. you see this in the fandom response to clive even today in 2022. look in his tag; you will either get people passionately devoted to him or people who passionately hate him for the chaos he wrought upon a community and also the general annoyance of seeing his face everywhere unjustified for the amount of media he actually was present in. THAT’S the once-ler response.

descole, on the other hand, has been a largely well received character after his four media appearances. you either get people passionately devoted to him or people lukewarm on him. people don’t complain of fatigue and annoyance at seeing descole’s face everywhere, because his appearances in the entire prequel series justifies his popularity. yes, descole fits some of the aforementioned tropes mentioned: namely the polarised personality, the suit, the villainy, tragic backstory. but the term tumblr sexyman is not solely rooted in tropes; it is equal part trope and equal part fandom meta. the term itself was coined by not the fans, but the critics; those in response to the once-ler fandom  who had grown fatigued by tumblr’s affinity towards the same flavour of charismatic villain in a suit. when you think of the phrase “i want that twink obliterated” and the people who genuinely mean it, which is the professor layton character that springs to mind first? it’s probably not descole.

a slight digression, but it’d also be wrong to write about the once-ler response without a mention of the absolute avalanche of once-ler OCs and askblogs that unexpectedly flooded out of that ONE kids’ movie. an entire fandom UNIVERSE was made from literal scraps (seriously have you seen the lorax 2012 the once-ler is barely fucking IN IT). these scraps AKA missing information about a character led fans to compensate by filling in the gaps which is what ended up birthing the infamous oncest ship - in its essence, a response to the largely unexplained and sudden jump from ‘nice once-ler’ to ‘bad once-ler’. this was what created a literal ‘once-ler fandom’ as opposed to ‘lorax fandom’. ANYWAY. this is a digression because neither clive nor descole had a ‘clive/descole fandom’ of their own (sadly) and selfcest was not a defining feature of their respective eras (thankfully). but that’s not why i raise this point. i do because THIS was the phenomenon that truly allowed the term ‘tumblr sexyman’ to come to fruition. it was a marker of not only just fatigue, but cringe. 

CRINGE is an important and defining factor to what TRULY makes a tumblr sexyman, and those in the tags this past week dunking on clive for being embarrassing and wearing kneesocks and being ‘the sexyman of the past’ (AKA a teen girl’s crush) is only proving it. that thirst that brought about the once-ler fandom from literal scraps was created by the most important demographic in internet history: neurodivergent teenagers circa 2007-2014. THIS was the one demographic with the POWER to make the most unexpected characters and media popular with their sheer passion and creativity, and yet the characters and media loved by this era specifically became the first subjects of cringe culture. cringe culture itself is a topic for another day; why it matters here is that there is an unmistakable element of cringe today surrounding clive as a character most of all. there are far too many examples of this to count but see this post for one example. this one post is really important because OP really gets it; the insane fandom response to one unlikely character, the main era of his popularity (cited 2013), and a question of cringe from a 2022 fandom perspective - why DID he inspire such lust and loathing when he looks like that? it’s because the neurodivergent teenagers wished it so, and thus it came to be. 

to most people, thanks to current tumblr’s over-categorisation of the term in an attempt to “cringe” at its past in a self-aware manner, “tumblr sexyman” has been watered down to mean “any character conventionally attractive and popular enough who sometimes skews towards the morally grey.” seriously, look at that sexypedia wiki, there are hundreds of these characters now. ANYONE qualifies if they had a sad backstory and had a reasonable fandom following. but this is only a cheap imitation of what the term really means. a majority of these characters haven’t actually earned what truly makes a “tumblr sexyman”, which ultimately boils down to the factors of tropes, unlikely fandom response, and their following notoriety based in cringe culture. in only a short time, we are forgetting the history. we’re forgetting where this phenomenon came from, WHO it came from, and how this essentially defined an entire era of the internet.

anyway im going to bed so what i’m saying is that voting clive represents and respects what the term “tumblr sexyman” really, actually means at its core and origin, because in the end, the character has earned it. descole on the other hand may very well be the ‘sexyman of the modern age’ - a cheap, watered down imitation only replicated by those who have forgotten their internet history.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 146! I have written way more stories than this but the old stuff (2006-2015 lol) is all on my old fic journal.

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 310,292. Wild to think about tbh.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Right now only Good Omens but prior to this dip back into fandom I used to be very multi-fannish and I won't be surprised if I slip back into that eventually. Of my 146 fics on AO3, they are for 56 different fandoms and I've written for over 150 different fandoms since ehhhh 2003.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes I really try to, even just with a thank you. I love writing comments too so I feel like I should respond!

5. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.

6. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I used to co-write a lot with my IRL bestie but we haven't been in the same fandom probably since we both terrorized the Professor Layton kink meme together. And I used to co-write a LOT with my ex but that is long in the past.

7. What's your all-time favourite ship? This is such a hard question because like I said I have liked to write everything. Right now it's Aziraphale/Crowley, but I have also in the past been very into Toph/Aang from ATLA and Pearl/Garnet from Steven Universe, and I also get really interested in family dynamics and any characters I can write femslash for. This is baby's first slash fandom lolol. Yes. In 21 years.

8. What are your writing strengths? I think the main one is tone. Usually I am trying extremely hard to capture the vibe of a book or a show and I like to write a lot of canon-compliant stuff generally. I also think I do good dialogue. As a contrast to below I do think I write well in short format.

9. What are your writing weaknesses? I do not plot shit which is probably why I never write anything long. I do have an unpublished (I am going to finish it) Good Omens fic that is sitting at about 12k words right now that needs an expanded ending, but besides that I have only written 2 fics that are longer than 10k words.

10. First fandom you wrote for? I am a middle-aged person in fandom who wrote Cardcaptor Sakura fic and emailed my favorite webmaster and asked them to post it up on their Geocities website and they did!! What a joy that Geocities no longer exists although I bet I still have that fic on a flash drive somewhere. (It lived on a floppy disk before that!)

Yes! I actually feel kind of weird when I don't do it... And I always like getting answers to my own comments 🥰

6: What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oof, that's a hard question... I mean, it depends from which perspective, right? One of my South Park fics, I'll Give Up Everything For You, ended with Hell invading earth but the main characters are the instigators and happy together, while they doomed their town.

Then I have a few Hurt No Comfort stories like Who's the Liar Now? or Rare Lies Hurt The Most, though they're both quite short.

I guess the one with the most ambiguous and hurtful endings are appropriately closely named: Cursed (Dukeceit Werewolf story) and Cursed Woods (Roceit with forceful separation at the end).

7: What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, that's hard because that's most of them 😅 But without thinking about it too much, You're Not Alone an Intruloceit story with lots of hugs and comfort and a christmas party at the end 💙💛💚

8: Do you get hate on fics?

One time I got a comment telling me to kill myself under a South Park fic but apparently they went around commenting on a bunch of fics with that particular ship, so it wasn't really targeted at me. That was the only thing that I've got over the years.

9: Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I don't, but maybe someday 🤷‍♀️

10: Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don't and I don't really like reading them either with very few exceptions.

Heartfelt moments and dialogue, I think. Sincerity and simplicity as well, maybe.

17: What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm not good with poetic writing styles. I also often struggle with descriptions since I'm not much of a visual thinker.

18: Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it can be a fun addition, depending on how much you include. Since I myself am not a native English speaker, I am often tempted to bring in some German. But it needs to be inserted in a way that even non-speakers of the language can understand.

19: First fandom you wrote for?

Kingdom Hearts! They were my first online obsession 🤭 If I had discovered fandoms earlier, I might have written for Wizards of Waverly Place.

20: Favorite fic you've written?

How could I ever choose? I actually really like most of my fics still and do reread them sometimes but I guess in terms of begin proud of how much work I put into it, Hurt No One Knew About might be my favorite of them so far.

I am this close to making an au where b12 survives, moves himself into one of the companion robot bodies, adopts the mc (main cat) and the rest of their cat family and then has to deal with being the only remaining ‘human’, trying to figure out his role in this fledgling society while mourning the loss of his own.

Stray - Resurfacing Au

A lot of people liked this post and I’m getting more ideas from my second play through so let’s do this. Stray Spoilers Ahead.

When the city opened up, the zurks died and the sentinels deactivated, the Outsiders were finally able to reunite and make their way towards the surface

(Zbaltzar had to stay behind until they had a place to put his monitors and everything else, but he didn’t mind, it just gave him more time to meditate)

They reach the station. They’re off put with how emotionless the helpers are, but decide to help them out at a later date

They’re about to exit to the surface when Momo hears something coming from the main control room and goes to investigate

He finds the little outsider, curled around his drone friend who’s eyes aren’t lit up anymore

Momo comforts the little outsider, picking him and his inactive friend up then taking them to the others

Doc ends up taking B12, believing he may be able to recover him

While the little outsider goes out to find his family, Doc sets up his new lab on the surface and works on bringing back B12

He finds that yes, he can recover B12, but the small drone body is beyond repair so he ends up installing B12 into a companion body

When B12 wakes, the cat and his reunited family are there to greet him. Doc explains everything that happened while B12 is covered in cats

B12, while happy to still be alive and with his memory, struggles with his identity. Now that everyone is free and he no longer has the mission of opening the city to focus on, he’s forced to face the implications of being the last human on Earth and if he even counts as a human anymore

The outsiders welcome him into their group, even if they’re free now, they still have their camaraderie and still consider themselves the outsiders

B12 doesn’t tell them about him being human right away, he wants get a bit more comfortable in his new ‘skin’ before he does so

Hi my very dear and lovely friend @cherubimeyes asked me to answer every single question to the Layton meme, yes all 40 of them, so umm, basically, I die. (yes i'm tagging you because look look look look look l-) Putting under a read more because, you know.

Oh and uh, obvious spoilers for like, every game

1) Who is your favourite character?

Luke, it's Luke, always has been always will be, he's just a boy and I love him so so so so so so so much. He's just so silly he makes me so happy anytime I see him, he’s literally just a 13 year old boy and he’s my son :')

2) What’s your favourite game?

Hate this question, hate it because there's things about every PL game that are my favourite and I genuinely love every entry in the series. Though if you made me pick, it'd say either Lost Future or Spectre's Call, I can't choose between those two at all so you have to take that as my answer hehe.

3) What’s your favourite soundtrack?

Lost future hands DOOOWN, they went so hard on the OST for this one like it's insane, like so many of the songs on that soundtrack are so memorable and they stand out so well I jUST AAAA. 

Plus the main theme makes me cry every time I hear it is so good. I love all the Layton main themes tbh they always fuck so hard lol but Lost Futures one is just the best to me its so all over the place but in such a good way.

4) What’s your favourite puzzle?

Ummmmmm I can't remember tbh, even more of an excuse to go play every layton game again lol. I do like sliding/jigsaw puzzles so anything along those lines would be one of my favourites!

The Alchemist Lab from MM’s and AL’s daily puzzles are a big favourite of mine! 

5) What’s your favourite setting? (Misthallery, Monte d’Or, etc…)

I really fucking love Misthallery, like just the vibe for it is so good to me, mainly because it really does come off like a weird English town that's you'd just stumbled upon while exploring. Plus it's so….Misty..

6) What outfit of Luke’s is your favourite?

Gonna go with the OG trilogy on this one, sorry I just think his jumper is cute, I do love his other outfits though they're such a look. So hyped to see what his new outfit is going to be but I already love it!!!

7) What’s your favourite cutscene?

Maaaaaaaan there’s so many that stand out it’s hard for me to pick one!!! Any scene with Claire, all the fight scenes, the ferris wheel scene, the one where Luke gets fucking kidnapped and just screams for like a whole minute, any scene with Randal, the little cutscene where Arouras getting her new outfits (why was she Irish btw?), the ending to PL vs AA. They’re all so good to me and I love them all so much, insane. 

8 ) What’s your favourite end credits song?

Azran Legacy's, I know AL isn't everyone's favourite because of how the story is but come oONNN THE END CREDIT SONG IS SUCH A GUT PUNCH, especially with the original Japanese lyrics to it!!! Genuinely sad they never dubbed over the end credit songs with lyrics because holy shit all the songs hit different with vocals added, I love you saxophone but you will never be a vocalist.

9) What’s your favourite minigame?

The tea mini game, I love giving those two the most rancid tea possible and watching them cry over it. I am really just a 5 year old making "potions" for people to consume and get sick from. Over favourite is the hotel mini game, I always feel super bad if i can’t get them both a bed before their first night at St Mystere but I love hearing them bitch and complain about their room layouts so much, Luke gets two beds just as a treat. :)

10) What’s your favourite animal/pet? (The bunny from MM, the parrot from UF, etc, etc.)

I love the bunny minigame but honestly the parrot, for the sole reason that you can name it My Dick and have Clive say "just sit back, and watch My Dick work its magic", like that is never not funny and if you say otherwise you're lying.

11) Do you have a favourite quote? If yes, what is it?

“Isn’t that odd, I find that odd! Doland, do you find that odd?” - Professor Layton

12) If you could have a spinoff game about one character, who would you choose and what would the game be about?

Still holding out for that Luke solo American game, or just any Luke solo game, I know there was a mini one for Pandora's Box but I want a full game, send him out into the world to solve mysteries please he’ll love it.

I’ll also take an Flora, Emmy, or even Randal solo game, though I have no fuckin idea what kind of game. You think I could get a Randal farming simulator game??? Please???

13) If you could meet any character’s voice actor and have them say something to you as their character, who would you choose and what would you have them say?

I really wanna meet Luke's UK voice actor and ask her to say "Professor, have you heard of the hit new game Among us? Pretty Sus innit", I don't care how much money I have to pay for it, no price is high enough.

14) If you could punch one character in the face, who would it be?

Bill Hawks, I hate the government and I still want that bitch dead.

15) Would you change how any of the games are executed? If yes,what would you change?

The only one I'd change would be Azran Legacy, all I’d really do is just make the story more fixed/linier instead of giving the choice to the player, I just found it made the game feel a lot shorter than it is.

16) Did you enjoy PL-vs-PW?

YES YES YES I FUCKING DID SO MUCH, Mainly because this game gave me Darklaw and I don't talk about her nearly as much as I should, she takes up so much space in my brain. 

I do suck at court cases so the ace Attorney parts were a bit challenging but other than that, it's a good game and I love it a lot teehee

17) Do you have any headcanons? If yes, what?

I do not, aside from like small things that I really can’t think of off the top of my head I got nothing, I’m sure if you sat me down and asked me to think hard enough i’d come up with one but my mind goes blank when i’m put on the spot lol

18) Did you cry at any games? If yes, what ones)

Yes, all of them, every single one, there is no exception. PL games just hit me in the emotions too much and make me so and cry and throw up everywhere.

19) Do you prefer the 2D art or the 3D art?

Gotta say 2D, no hate to the 3D style because I do actually like it, but not everyone translates well over to 3D, especially with how most of the Layton characters look.

That being said, hopefully they’ve improved a lot for the new game, but man I do think the push to make every game 3D is… not a good one lol.

20) How many times have you played your favourite game?

Ohhhhhh man idk, I replay the whole series like every year or so but it's been a while so I don't remember. Definitely more than once, I think I replayed Lost Future as soon as I completed it the first time because there’s something wrong with me.

21) Do you cosplay any characters? If yes, who? If no, would you like to? Who would you choose?

I used to cosplay as Luke a lot back when I was younger, haven't done it since because you know, I got other things to cosplay, but I could probably pull off his look a lot better now than I did then, my hairs actually short now. I would need to but everything again because despite not growing since I was 10, I have outgrown his old costume, still got the hat somewhere though hah!

22) Do you have any merchandise? If yes, what? If no, would you like any? What would you get?

I don’t have a lot but that’s just from me not going out to get it! I have the Eternal Diva Luke plush who’s one of my oldest plushes and I love him so much!!! Other than that, I have the Fangamer Curious Village t-shit which I wear whenever it’s clean, and I have a bunch of fan merch too! I just try and pick up PL stuff whenever I can but I definitely want to get into collecting more of it!

23) Has the series had an impact on your life?

Um??? Yes??? You think playing a video game at the age of 11 wouldn't??? This game has impacted me in ways I can't describe and helped spark my love for art and storytelling and creativity, so without it I wouldn't be nearly half the person I am today, it's hard for me to articulate exactly how, but trust me it has and I am so grateful for it.

24) When did you first discover the series?

I got Lost Future advertised to me in 2010, I don’t think i’d heard of the game series before, I wasn’t as chronically online as I am now so back then TV ads really did work on me lmao

25) How old were you when you first discovered the series?

I was about 11 or so, you know, a crucial age to have media influence your entire life.

26) How did you discover the series?

Again, it got advertised to me, so I asked to get Lost Future for christmas and my life has been a downward spiral ever since lmao

27) Will you play Layton 7?

Oh man you can tell this meme is old lmao

I can't even remember what Layton 7 was originally going to be??? Like I know it ended up being Kat's game but I know it was planned to be something before that, but I seriously can't remember what it was. But umm yes I will play layton 7, I'm one of those annoying fans that will play anything in a series regardless of its quality.

28) Do you have any ideas that could easily be future games?

I can’t think, they’re literally making a new one and I have no idea what it could be at this point, so they can throw whatever they want at me at this point and i’ll take it.

29) Did you enjoy Mystery Room?

Honestly, I never played it. I know I should and I probably will at one point, but I didn't have a smartphone when it was released so I kinda missed out on the hype for it unfortunately, again I might play it now but yea we’ll see, Alfred is a whole mood dhdjbwhd

30) If you could tell one character something, who would it be and what would you say?

I’d say to Clive that he had the right idea but a giant mobile fortress wasn’t the brightest idea, if he had the money to build a giant robot toy, he could’ve just exploded parliament instead. Think smarter Clive, also have fun rotting in prison, hope you stay there.

31) Did you enjoy Eternal Diva?

I LOVE ETERNAL DIVA SO MUCH!!! It’s such a Layton movie, like it's the perfect video game movie to me!!! it's just, so Layton. Everyone I've ever met has been subjected to this movie at some point in their life, it’s like important research in order to understand what’s up with me. If I'm friends with someone who hasn’t seen it yet, don’t worry, you soon will.

32) What was the saddest moment/s in the games for you?

Literally all the endings??? That’s why I keep crying like a bitch over all of them.

Though Luke leaving to go to America will never not make me cry, like just the whole set up for it as well as the end cutscene just, god that sucks so much wAA. Also any mention from Luke about his family makes me sad too, like both in Specters Call and PL vs AA, I don’t know why I just find it sad, boy deserves so much better than what happened to him in Specters Call like come OOON, Weird kids deserve so much love.

Oh also, the reunion scene in PL vs AA wasn’t sad but it still made me cry, so mad it never got turned into a cutscene.

33) Have you met people as a result of playing the games?

YES! MANY! A good chunk of my early online friends were from our shared interest in Layton! Even today I will happily bond with someone over this game and I am always happy to introduce people to it, it’s just such an amazing series that I really can’t praise enough. Hey you, dear mutual, if you’re reading this and you’re a Layton fan and you’ve never talked to me, you’re already my friend now because you have amazing taste in video games. 

34) Do you want more games or do you think the series has run its course and is fine as it is?

OK SO, I ANSWERED THIS QUESTION A WHILE AGO AND ORIGINALLY I SAID NO, BUT THAT WAS BEFORE FEBRUARY 8TH 2023. I am bouncing off the walls and eating the furniture and kicking and screaming for a new layton game. I am so interested as to how this new one will play out but I am so HYPED for it and I’m so glad it doesn’t look to be going in the direction I was fearing it would go in if they made a new Layton game!!!

35) What Layton meme did you enjoy the most? (Clive and the snails? Desmond’s bread hair?)

Regret to inform you that I’ve been a Layton fan since 2010/11, so umm… I’m 42 years old, and uhh… baseball, if you even care. No attatchment to the source material it’s lost on me now, those quotes are just burned into my head from being 12 years old.

But I do 100% love Clive and snails, he’s so wrong by the way and I would put snails on him in a heartbeat. 

36) Has a moment in the games ever scared you?

I used to be really scared at the fact that everyone in St Mystere were robots, like that just unnerved me so much, but that was 100% from me being scared of robots at the time I first played it, I’m better now but it still weirds me out a bit lol

Other than that, can’t really think of anything, anytime they all get 

37) What’s the wackiest NPC you have ever seen?

All of them, LEVEL-5 just knows how to make insane looking characters that will kill you, I know a good chunk of them haven’t aged well but you know, not much I can do about that.

As for the wackiest, literally all the kids in Mistalery, there;s something so up with all of them I don't wanna go there ever.

38) Do you ship any characters? If yes, what are your ships?

Outside of any canon/canon implied ships, not really??? I never got into PL shipping it was just never for me, though I will admit that Ranlay is very fucking good and I appreciate it a lot. But yea I’m kinda more interested in all the found family stuff that goes on in PL games more than anything else!

39) Are you going to buy this art book when it comes out in November?

The original post for this meme is deleted so I can’t even check when this meme was posted. But umm, no I guess, if they do a new artbook for the new game then yes I will get it, no questions asked

40) Can you play any of the soundtracks on a musical instrument? If yes, what instrument and what soundtrack(s)? If no, would you like to learn? What ones would you like to be able to play?

I cannot play an instrument because I spent all my time learning how to sing instead, and I can’t even sing any of the layton songs because they’re all in Japanese and I don’t KNOW Japanese. Maybe if I ever learn one day then yea i’ll learn to play the ending credits.

Chief Mod Edgeworth: We do have a collection of different AA sprites both 2D and 3D. However, you can also find some clean sprites in the Sprite Gallery located in the Ace Attorney Wiki. You can also find others in court-records.net.

Considering most of the 3D sprites from DD and SOJ are from court-record.net links to sprite pages for each character made by Co-Mod and other past mods, I’m not going to go farther than that. Just know that us and other past mods have gained these sprites over the course of the years. Sometimes we download videos from YouTube and put the characters through a loop and other times we just find them in the Sprite Gallery when they’re available.

Crossover games are different because they have their own game and are part of their own universe. You can purchase Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright without the need to purchase the Ace Attorney Trilogy or the likes. The same goes with Project X 2 and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3. 

However, the same cannot be said for the Asinine Episodes. In order to play them, you have to purchase the games, those being Spirit of Justice or The Great Ace Attorney Adventures. However, it gets even more complicated. For Asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney, you have to literally purchase The Great Ace Attorney Adventures... wait for it... IN JAPANESE. You heard it right folks, there is no asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney in English, not even in the Pre Order for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Cue... 

For Spirit of Justice, you can get the Asinine Episodes for Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice in English. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the app you can purchase from the apple store. That tells me it’s only available on certain Spirit of Justice games. That’s the main issue with the Asinine DLC cases. Neither are canon, you have to purchase the games to achieve them and you have to purchase specific kind of games. It’s not like the crossover games where they are their own separate universes that are allowed to be separate from the games. Keep in mind that we don’t consider the bonus episodes won in Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright game canon to its own game. 

As for your suggestion, we may consider it but do keep in mind these things take time to process because it needs to be approved by all the mods. Like it took me months to get the updated and new rules approved or they’d have been done at the first of January.

Chief Mod Edgeworth: Just because I’m critical about Ace Attorney, that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. In fact, the most genuine fans are often the most critical about things they love. In fact, the old mods Modot and Modthorne are much more critical about Ace Attorney than me, if you read some of Modot’s past essays or watch Modthorne’s livestreams. Most of my criticisms are in the form of tags, meaning they’re not as big as you seem to be making them out to be. 

Just look up my tag and look through my past essays on Manfred von Karma, Dick Gumshoe, Wrightworth, Kristoph Gavin and the 20th Anniversary Essay on how I got into Ace Attorney. If I was to describe why or how much I love Ace Attorney, it would be a whole novel long compared to a couple of tags with my criticism. 

Seriously, the only times I ever make any criticisms about Ace Attorney are in tags and maybe a paragraph letter. That’s nothing to cry home about really. Even the tags in the letter you referenced is something many AA fans agree with. 

Now, if you want to know what Ace Attorney... anything I hate or don’t like.... the anime. I didn’t like it at first, but it seems I am hating it more the deeper I get into Ace Attorney. At this point, I hate the anime Ace Attorney so much that it is on my blacklist of things I will never mention or talk about. So... now you know.

Ah, I see. I was mostly confused why you made the assumption. Though, taking that Maya always wears that uniform in the game, I don’t entirely blame you. At the same time, the game always focuses on when Phoenix and Maya are at work, being why you see Phoenix in a suit and Maya in a kimono. That isn’t to say that’s what they wear outside of work. There are many Official Artworks where Maya is seen wearing different kimonos, a swimsuit, a school uniform and this.

These were early designs, but my point still stands. It’s likely she wears casual kimonos and yukatas in Kurain. Hey, I only asked why you thought she wore the same outfit. I didn’t say she wears shirts and pants outside of work. Kurain is a very Japanese religious village, so I’m sure everyone there wears kimonos and yukatas of different designs.

Do you make your bed? - lmao no. I don't have the patience for that, I lay in it most of the day anyway

Favorite number? - 24! It's my birthday so it's always been a part of me! Honorable mentions for 64 (Nintendo 64, my first console) and 92 (my first football number, picked in honor of late Defensive End Reggie White who wore 92 for Philadelphia and Green Bay back in in the day).

What's your job? - I'm a diesel mechanic! I used to work for the state doing the dump trucks and various off-road equipment like wood chipper, asphalt spreaders, snow plows, etc but that was fucking annoying so I left and now I'm a school bus mechanic! Way less stress surprisingly!

If you could go back to school, would you? - I mean, technically I already did when I left sanitation/janitorial and took night classes and a tech school. However, I'd actually like to go back again just for some local welding classes to learn that. I just haven't had the motivation.

Can you parallel park? - I guess? I somehow passed on my driver's test and then I managed to do it getting my CDL in a tandem (two-real axle) dump truck but I haven't ever needed to do it since those two instances whoops

Do you think aliens are real? - My brother in christ we haven't even explored the entirety of the Earth's ocean, there's absolutely other life out in the galaxy. No way we can be the only ones.

Can you drive a manual car? - Yep! I love driving stick actually! My first car was a stick shift and my dad made it a point to teach me it. It was awful at the time but I'm glad he did. They made me learn a stick truck as well with the State when I got my CDL tho hardly anyone uses them anymore.

Guilty Pleasure? - Sweets. I fucking have such an awful sweet tooth, I swear that's what'll kill me. Cake, ice cream, candy, cookies... you name it, I love it all.

Favorite type of music? - I truly am a "listens to a bit of everything" person but my main go-to is usually alt/indie rock.

Do you like puzzles? - Mehhhh it depends. I gotta be in the mood for them, but otherwise I get frustrated real easily. (Love playing some Professor Layton tho!)

Favorite childhood sport? - American Football!!! Still my favorite sport now! I wanted to play so badly as a kid, I ended up playing my final two years of middle school and my freshman year of high school before I realized I sucked at sports lmao

Do you talk to yourself? - Oh all the time, yeah. I'm the only one who'll listen /j

Tea or coffee? - Both, but they gotta be iced! Iced tea is one of my favorite drinks so probably lean more towards that but a good iced coffee hits right in the morning.

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up? - lmao the first thing I told my parents was I wanted to be "a superhero". We went from that to football player, then a voice actor, then a writer...

What movies do you adore? - Idk... I'll kinda watch anything that isn't jumpscare horror (tho I wanna try to break that fear). Older sci-fi movies like Back to the Future and Star Wars both have special places in my heart tho

Do you make your bed? A freshly decrumbed, stuffed animal arranged and dirty clothes removed bed feels great. How often do I do this? We mustn't ask (like once or twice a month) that's all making the bed entails for me, I just have a fitted then normal sheet and blankets

Favorite Number? 4 4 4 4 4! I've loved four my entire life she is like a goddess to me. 2+2 2*2 2^2, divides into halves twice. can only compete with sixteen, whose status and 2^4 and 4^2 is nice, but not as symmetric. 37 and 73 have a place in my heart as the 12th and 21st primes, but not a large place compared to 4

What's your job? What do I get paid for? undergrad lab TA, what do I do? grad research in low energy nuclear physics

If you could go back to school, would you? In school technically still. Would I rewind time to experience school again? highschool no college yes. would I go back for another college degree? I could be convinced if it would be cheap and unobtrusive to my current schooling. Was always torn between physics and linguistics. I made the right choice but I always wonder what if.

Can you Parallel Park? I have done it, on the driving test, like four or five years ago. I think I could do it again, but not too confident

Do you think Aliens are real? Eh, probably in a 'the observable universe 9.3e+9 ly across, it must have happened more than once' kinda way, but not in a 'they've been feeding us tech for thousands of years or are visiting us' kinda way.

Can you drive a manual car? Never tried, hubris tell me yes, anxiety with even normal cars tells me I'd probably fuck up the transmission while trying to leave the driveway. gonna say yeag

Guilty Pleasure? I think like cheesy childhood disney live action movies?, generally I'm pretty full chested about the things I enjoy

Favorite Type of Music? yeah, hard, a lot of vocaloid, which isn't reallly a genre, a lot of edm genres from like old school monstercat, a lot of jrock by way of anime OP's of show's I've never watched then finding other songs by those artists. some rock music though that genre is also extremely expansive and I'm not sure how I'd categorize a lot of it. Generally my music consumption consists of a group of maybe five songs completely unrelated on repeat for months at a time and genre is not a huge factor in that

Do you like puzzles? twisty puzzles like rubik's cube type puzzles are really fun working, towards doing a 3x3 blindfolded but challenging, I used to do jigsaw's with my mom but over the course of a very long time because we'd get frustrated. crosswords, but I'm no good at them

Favorite Childhood Sport? Soccerrrr. Wish I'd stayed with it, but there were only a couple more years before there wasn't a league for my age group anyway, been trying to get back into it recreationally

Do you talk to yourself? I do, but as if I'm talking to someone else. I prefer not to do it because I'm not content with my voice atm, but I find myself doing it a lot especially when getting stuck on research stuff trying to talk it out or I will say a comment to someone I disagree with outloud rather than typing it and posting it. A lot of this is to my reflection which is probably part of the reason it feels like someone else lol

Tea or Coffee? tea all the way. drank iced sweet black tea my entire childhood and started drinking it hot with milk in college. I was the kind of person that disliking coffee was a sort of pillar of my tastes, but then a few years ago made it with like half milk and a lot of sugar and like it, lotta people wouldn't call that coffee, but eh.

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up? The actual first thing was everything. I would amalgamate like all the stereotypes of things kids want to be into one so a firefighter-astronaut-whatever else. When I got a better sense of my interests, inventor, so I guess like product designer, but what that meant to me was I got to sit around and think of neat gadgets and items then figure out how to make them like freeze ray, time machine, clone gun, that kind of thing lol. the first practical idea of a job I wanted was theoretical physicist in like middle school, which I kinda am now so success I guess

What Movies do you Adore? not much of a movie person, but like to watch movies other people are interested in with them, love castle in the sky, LOTR, howl's moving castle, your name, probably others in those categories I don't know about yet or have forgotten and I have a strong soft spot for childhood halloween movies like twitches and halloweentown

Adrien looked off into the distance, trying to muster the same confidence and strength he had as Chat Noir despite feeling like a lost kid.

“Of course I will. We’re doing this together.”

2. Sometimes It’s Worth It All To Risk The Fall [Miraculous Ladybug, one-shot] ⚔️

Based on this writing prompt from @writing-prompt-s and @feather-of-argos:

A woman from a foreign land is sentenced to die but is allowed to choose the method of execution. As per the laws of her land, she asks to die in honourable combat against the King's knights, armed with a wooden sword while the knights have real weapons.

It's been 24 hours since the execution started and the King is running out of knights... So he sends for his nephew.

My first Feligami fic, written and edited in a six-hour-long fever dream. Probably the darkest thing I will ever write, but because it’s me, you know it has a happy ending.

3. Avant-première [Miraculous Ladybug, one-shot] 🎭

Guilt deformed Felix’s traits as memories flooded the room, suffocating them both. Nevertheless, she needed to press on — for his sake, for hers, for everyone’s.

“That night, with Red Moon…” The name felt awful in her mouth, like a bitter taste she would need to get used to. “You didn’t lose Marinette. You just weren’t looking properly.”

She reached for his hand, intertwining their fingers together.

This next step would make or break them.

After days of avoiding conversation and a few beers to build up her courage, Emmy opens up to Clive about her love life.

Part of my "The Lucky Ones" AU, where Clive gets the mental health support he needs in time and Hershel becomes UF's main antagonist.

Really, this will be a chapter of a much longer fic once I actually write it (it’s been on my to-do list since 2019).
